Ok wow, this was quite the ride for us. Carly….struggled at the end there. It was scarier than I thought it would be, but I’m bummed that I had read a comment spoiler about this one. I thought this was the perfect October movie!

And so at the end... when looking it up... yup. Figures. So awesome! I especially loved the scene when the camera pans BELOW Michelle as she was lying on the floor! As if he was shooting through the floor boards. LOVE THAT!

By the middle of the movie I thought this was one the most fun reactions by you guys because how affective the movie was. But by the last third, I genuinely felt really bad for Carly. So tops to you Carly for being a trooper. And Cassie has become a real veteran with the scary stuff. "They need John Constantine.'' had me dying. It does confirm for me how great this movie is. 2 Stars at the top of their game and a director at the top of his craft. Truly thank you for getting through it you guys.

I'm actually really surprised Carly got as scared as she did, considering it's a PG-13 film. Though the twist at the end does get more disturbing the more you think about it.

Why else do you think that horror and war genre films get so many views?! So, it doesn't surprise me when reactors are not part of the equation. Having said that, it seems in this case it was a Cass pick that she has wanted to react to for a while so you really can't blame viewers for this one. She needs someone she can trust to give her spoiler free advice and backgrounds on films.

I just don't see the fascination with scary movies. I realize people absolutely love them but I just.... Can't bring myself to watch them. Which is why I have avoided this channel for most of the month.

But I personally don’t think giving the basic genre a film is in is a spoiler. Most films genres are usually pretty obvious, unless it’s a film with a twist, like labeling Unbreakable (spoiler alert ;-) ) a superhero film. The line between spoiler and non-spoiler can be blurry and very subjective at times. And as we’ve seen with both Saw and The Fly, people will say things about films that just aren’t true, whether through being misinformed, misremembering, or just plain lying.

2024-10-27 16:08:31 +0000 UTC@Richard - Fair Point. I held off watching, The Haunting of Hill House (2018), because I heard some reviews saying people were throwing up. Even here on PiB, after the first two episodes, Cassie said she read a comment saying the next episodes will make you want to “pull your eyes out your nose.” I thought this was a show that I needed to be in the right mood for because I was going to see something disgusting. Those comments about the show were far from how I felt about it, and they made me more tense than I needed to be going in. There were some great jump scares, but nothing I’d say disgusting. Hill House is about 75% or more family drama, that was well worth Cassie’s time, and she likes the show. “Gross and Disgusting” are also relative. I may have been guilty of this in the past, but I feel like what I’ve always tried to do was convey how I, personally, felt about a film after watching it, such as Saw and The Fly. Which is something I’ve realized isn’t right either. When she originally announced she was going to watch Saw, 2 years ago I think, I truthfully, but maybe in too much detail, stressed how tense I was when I first watched Saw. This was my response to my thinking, “WTH, you’re watching Saw, but you won’t watch The Thing because The Thing is too scary! The Thing is not Scary (to me)” She wound up canceling Saw, which I hate to think I might of contributed, but probably did. Last year, I was wanting something else to get watched over The Fly, so I made some truthful comments about, myself not having an urge to ever watch The Fly again, after that first watch. These are things that we’ve all probably been guilty of at one point. And we all should probably try to stop. Cassie is here to Watch Films and give an Honest Reaction to them, based on her feelings, morals and proclivities. We shouldn’t try to give our opinions, before hers. Hers is the only one that really matters on this Channel, and it shouldn’t be tainted. I’ve been trying lately to just “Recommend” films to watch without any extra elaboration. Hell, I’ve always hated recommending Rom-Coms, and labeling it a Rom-Com. I’ve done it in the past, because I want her to notice it, but to me that is ruining a possible surprise in the reaction.

Actually, Carly lasted longer than I thought she would. :) A few things... the next door neighbor wife is played by Miranda Otto (Eowyn from "Lord of the Rings"), Madison was played by Amber Valletta (Allegra Cole from "Hitch"), and the therapist was played by Joe Morton (Myles Dyson from "Terminator 2"). Did you guys notice when she was possessed and on top of him on the desk and said, "I think she's starting to suspect something." and then leans forward to say, "Your wife." that her face actually turned into Madison's as she leaned forward? Last thing Cass... in the winter cemetery scene, as Claire is walking away and it begins to fade to black, did you see Madison's face in the snow?! Most people miss it.

My favourite detail about this one is that it was made halfway through CAST AWAY while director Robert Zemeckis waited for Tom Hanks to lose weight and grow a long beard!

First of all.....SHIRLEY, one chooses to subscribe to a certain reactor's channel because one has seen something one likes about said reactor's reactions and therefore wants to see more of the same. Becoming a subscriber and then complaining that the reactor doesn't act or react the way one wants them to is Shirley one's own problem. Second: *Carly apologising for not watching scary movies with Cassie in October.* We have known this about you for three years, baby sister, therefore we don't expect it and it's a full Willy Wonka treat when you do turn up. Third: "Carly hiding behind a blanket for the last 30 minutes of the film." Some may complain that we can't see her reacting while she's doing that, but that's only because she's well pretty and we want to see more of her face. Nobody puts Baby behind a blanket! Fourth: "Cassie often mentions that she gets self-conscious on her live events because she gets tired of the sound of her own voice and thinks we must be tired of it too." We never get tired of your voice, Cassie, so stop trying to suppress your basic female nature. Many of us like to listen to you talk in the background without having the video up on screen. For the most part, it's because we're working on other things at the time, only occasionally because you're having an ugly day. And Finally: *"Stop doing finger guns, Cassie!", which is a direct quote from a reaction I watched recently.* Hell no, Cassie. We love the finger guns. Finger guns, pouty little shocked face, constant, unnecessary hair adjustments, crap Vulcan salutes, occasional on-camera murders of innocent moths - the list is endless. We love both of you, basically. So shush.

Wooo, that sure was a hoot LOL🤣🤣🤣 It's been forever since I saw this movie, I was 12 years old when this first came out! Of course I didn't see it in the theater, eventually my father and I rented it and watched it! Now I won't deny, the jump scares did get me as well, but this movie was nowhere near at giving me nightmares back then! I personally think this movie is so underrated and deserves more credit for it's creativity in mystery and the "who done it" genre, with a pinch of haunting lol! Believe me Cass, I was just as surprised as you and Carly were when finding out that Harrison Ford was the antagonist in this movie, just goes to show how much range he's got as an actor! I liked how you were naming off all the movies he was in where he's the good guy, how could you forget he was in STAR WARS lol😂 Opinions and thoughts, I honestly enjoyed this movie! I had no idea that Robert Zemeckis directed this movie, he also did the: BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy, ROMANCING THE STONE, CONTACT, FORREST GUMP, etc. just to name a few that I'm familiar with that he's done! However, as I was watching this, I was in total shock to find out who the two actors were who were the next door neighbors in this movie, James Remar who played the husband, I've seen him in lots of movies! However who played the wife really shocked the heck out of me! It was none other than Australian actress Miranda Otto, or should I say..... Eowyn from THE LORD OF THE RINGS...... HOLY MACKEREL 😱😱😱 Guilty as charged, I did get a good laugh at all your jumpscares, I'm sorry Cass! Especially towards the end, I couldn't help but laugh at you and Carly jumpscaring lol! If I could say anything, I can definitely agree that movies like THE SHINNING and IT are a bit more scarier than this! As for me, I don't scare that easily, none of those movies scared me at all when I first saw them, not to brag lol! Anyway, I did enjoy this reaction! I still say you and Carly must watch VAN HELSING to close out spooky season, I assure you that it's the perfect "scary, but not to scary" Halloween themed movie! It's on the level with movies such as TREMORS and it's directed by Stephen Sommers who did THE MUMMY and THE MUMMY RETURNS! I would never steer you wrong! Though that movie can be watched anytime really, I personally love watching VAN HELSING during Halloween time, but that's just me lol! As they said at the end, it is realistic and relatable, as some of the suspense and tension in this movie revolves around a woman being unsettled in her own home, what would be normally be considered a safe space. Plenty of stuff I was going to say has been said, about most of the familiar faces in the cast, the director, and the co-writer. The only one I didn't see previously mentioned was Amber Valletta, who played "Madison Elizabeth Frank"; she was a pretty good bit of casting to somewhat similar to Michelle Pfiffer. I very confident that you guys know her from the Will Smith movie "Hitch", she plays the seemingly unattainable woman that being pursued by Kevin James' character with the assistance of Smith's titular "Hitch" character.

I thought the movie was a creepy mystery and not especially scary but this is the beauty of the reaction channels. How the folks not raised on and blood and gore took this movie very differently. I don't jump anymore since I've seen this film several times now but when I first saw it I jumped a few times and I don't very easily. And I also think there is even better suspense and tension, it does a great job of tricking the audience. You think something scary will happen but nothing does and when you have your guard down that's when they do the scare. To me that's what IT doesn't do very well, it's pretty predictable.

The acting from Michelle and Harrison is great, they had really good chemistry and did seem like a happy couple, it's a big part as to why the twist is so unsettling. And yes, he staged his "accident" in the bathtub to make Claire feel bad and stay, he was so manipulative. When you go back and watch the scene when she's playing the cello again he goes behind her and puts his hand on her shoulder, he knew what he was doing, again manipulating her. And the sad part is it was a happy marriage for Claire, she had no idea the darkness that was inside him and that is just a chilling thought. The scares are so well done, nothing feels cheep. I don't jump very easily but I did a few times the first time I saw this. I also love that nothing is pointless, everything has a meaning. You could say the next door couple was but for me it wasn't because that is what starts Claire on suspecting a spirit and it's a great red herring. But there's also things like the front constantly opening, she kept doing that because that is where Claire saw them through the mirror or how she kept appearing in the bathroom because that was where Norman killed her, she killed her the exact same way he tried to kill Claire. She kept dropping the picture so she would look in the back, she saw her in the water in the lake because that's where Norman hid the box. It's just very smart writing. Also nothing is said that isn't important, like not getting a signal on the bridge or the paralyzing drug. And I think the misdirect on Madison's intentions were so well done. Throughout the whole movie you think she wants to harm her but no, not only does she want Claire to find out so her murder can be revealed and she can have some peace but also to help her. And I do think Madison purposely chose to do this after Katie went to college. I always feel so bad for Madison, she wasn't perfect, she made mistakes but she didn't deserve what happened to her. And just think, we saw how horrific it was for Claire but sadly Madison wasn't able to save herself and was forced to die that way. And I think that smile she gives was perfect after Norman dies, like she finally got her justice and she was able to actually contribute and help save Claire. It's so good, I love it!

It was subtle and the use of music, lighting, and pace were on point. This movie always scares the ladies. Probably because it’s realistic and the jump scares work on the women more than the men. Good effort ladies; you didn’t disappoint. These thrillers with high tension and minimal blood are my favorite scary movies. This movie gets 5 out of 5 Cassie Popcorns 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿for tension and scare factor. I have a feeling this will win or be a nominee on the Poppies for scariest reactions for the Popcorn sisters. Bravo ladies. 👏👏

She didn't say that she just found out. That was one amazing reaction. For those that say this is not a scary movie, this reaction is proof that for some is indeed scary, and it is great to see such a heartfelt reaction. The reaction just made the movie better. One of the best reactions this scary season! Cassie said in the outro, "Who directed that?" It was just the director of Back To The Future and Forrest Gump!

Carly watched the vast majority of the movie, and was kept abreast those few minutes. I liked this movie okay. I thought the underwater dead Madison at the end was striking. Michelle Pfeiffer is beautiful with good acting and a presence. The wife (Eowyn) next door is pretty. I watched Disturbia (PG-13) and Rear Window each a few times. But as you indicated, that first part of the movie with the neighbor was merely a distraction. My favorite movie so far this spooky October on the channel is Cloverfield.

I've seen this movie recommended before, and at least once it was mentioned that Ford plays the villain and claiming it’s his creepiest role. Which kind of ruins the entire twist of the movie, if you know in advance. I have to agree, it was genuinely scary at times, with those long, tension-filled shots building up to jump scares, which you could see coming a mile away but still get you. Some moments were on par with THE OTHERS, if not more intense. That one is also rated PG-13, interestingly. It seems that profanity, nudity, and gore can quickly push up the rating, but apparently scariness not. 😃 To redeem him for you (and me) I propose including a Ford movie for tender November. My suggestions: - REGARDING HENRY (1991) for a bit sentimental drama - Or if you prefer an 80s rom-com, then WORKING GIRL (1988) - Or maybe SIX DAYS SEVEN NIGHTS (1998), which is not that well liked but I always enjoyed it.

It was weird that Carly covered her face and refused to watch after all the scariest stuff had passed. Now you both need to go watch a "good guy" Harrison Ford movie—like Regarding Henry. I rarely watch supernatural movies. I like Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer (I read she is good). Gets mixed reviews. 138,000 users at IMDb = average rating of 6.6 What Lies Beneath (2000). IMDb 6.6, Metacritic 51%, RT 47% (audience 58%). "Robert Zemeck is unable to salvage an uncompelling and unoriginal film." I will watch the movie and see what I think. I liked The Village (first watch) better than its mixed reviews.

2024-10-25 18:10:42 +0000 UTCI’m with you. I watched “What Lies Beneath” on the recommendation of a buddy at work back when it was first released on dvd (and rental stores still existed). I was bored to tears. American ghost stories around this time were seemingly all very vanilla. Asian cinema, meanwhile, was making some of the scariest ghost movies seen to date around the same time. Several other people in my office had similar experiences when taking this particular co-worker’s movie advice and we collectively agreed that he could no longer recommend movies. Great lawyer, good friend, horrible taste in movies.

I also thought that “Starship Troopers” was just a cheesier version of “Aliens”; and I also thought that “Predator” was an awesome action movie. I think that I’m done recommending movies in October.

2024-10-25 16:55:12 +0000 UTCI don’t care much for this movie but hopefully you will want to check out Michelle Pfeiffer in her best role, which is as Catwoman in ‘Batman Returns’ (1992). I think it’s common knowledge that she is the best Catwoman by far! You could watch it around Christmas time😁

2024-10-25 16:50:44 +0000 UTCIt's unfortunate that the film got spoiled for you, but if it makes you feel any better, a large portion of the moviegoing audience at the time had the same experience because the film's original theatrical trailer gave away the final twist about *SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT* Harrison Ford's character being a bad guy who had an affair with the dead girl (for some weird reason, that seemed to be the MO for Robert Zemeckis movies for a while because the trailer for CAST AWAY also spoiled that Tom Hanks ultimately got off the island). This made the whole first half of the film somewhat tedious as you knew you were being fed a lot of red herrings about the neighbors. Still, not an unenjoyable movie. Stylishly directed by Zemeckis and featuring some solid performances by Pfeiffer and Ford. Sort of like an Alfred Hitchcock movie except that Hitch would never have had the supernatural element. He just didn't do that. Interested to see this reaction.
