[YT Edit] Constantine (2005)

Hey guys! Here is the YT edit for "Constantine" which will premiere a bit later today! Enjoy!

[YT Edit] Constantine (2005)

Comments

Really good movie, wish there was a sequel. Perfect scary not to scary pick!!!👍👍

Jay505

The movie itself was pretty bad, but culturally it was important for being a comic book movie with a black lead.

Chris Thom

High praise!

Chris Thom

Spawn on HBO was great, the Spawn movie, not so much.

Mike Lemon

Hands Down.... My favorite of all her reactions. This is my favorite of ALL her reactions.

Aaron Taft

I remember Spawn being a big deal at the time.

Chris Thom

I respect your opinion and Ned Ryerson. Happy Halloween! 👻

clutchkman

I have to disagree with that one, Clutch (and I totally respect that you're cool with this and just shooting the breeze. I find it interesting, that's all.) Like I said, The Exorcist is a triple whammy for Cassie - demonic possession, kid being abused, kid being spooky. If, however, you compare it to Constantine, it becomes a QUADRUPLE whammy - all of the above, PLUS no Keanu. This makes it okay to vote for Constantine because, while it's in the ball park of her "Nope" list, it's only adults being possessed and abused (fair game) and Cassie can gaze at Keanu while it's all happening. In the immortal words of Ned Ryerson, "Am I right or am I right?"

Clarence Newman

That's an interesting point, but that's not what I'm saying. If we know that she doesn't want to watch the Exorcist, then we shouldn't have voted for Constantine.

clutchkman

So I was rewatching Cassie’s reaction to Aliens. And even though she didn’t Dig it; I am so glad that she saw my generations most Bad A Money Money Strong Female Lead. It was so annoying hearing these young women, specifically Jennifer Lawrence, claim that they were the first woman to play a strong female character in cinema history. Or other actors claiming that T’Challa was the first black super hero. (RIP Chadwick Boseman) But now, Cassie knows that Blade was the first Marvel Superhero Movie featuring a man of color as the Main Character and the Hero Protagonist. (And not just any man of color; but The Wesley Snipes.) Well done Cassie. Now Cassie can defend the superhero fantasy genre as a valid form of American Cultural Modern Mythology. And not just the Racist, Sexist, and Misogynistic Fever dream that some post modernist quasi academic people would have the general public believe that it is. (Or maybe it is; and it’s just too early and I haven’t had my morning coffee yet. IDK)

Uncle Phoenix

I'm sorry but you are absolutely wrong. It is very clear while watching Constantine that you are not watching real life, that you are watching fiction. With The Exorcist, not so much.

Mike LL

Clarence, that's what I was thinking.

Clay F

Just looked it up, and yes quite few people who worked with John have seen him in real life. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Constantine?wprov=sfti1#In_real_life

Ria Grix

I read Hellblazer throughout the 90s, it was my No. 1 comic. So I know this will sound weird, but some of the people who worked on the Hellblazer comic book have seen John in real life… not like a person who looks like him, blonde hair, beige Macintosh coat (basically the opposite of Keanu Reeves’ version) but THE actual character walking the streets of London. Alan Moore who created him has said he has definitely seen John Constantine, I can’t remember who else has, but I think it’s a few.

Ria Grix

I never realized how much of horror movie this is until I seen your reaction. And because you missed the end credit scene, it was only John visiting Chazz's grave and Chazz appearing as an angel. When John sees him, he gives a little smirk. It's been theorized that Chazz was an angel the entire time, and he was just there to protect John.

Jacob Antony

Don't worry about going back and watching the end credits scene. No big deal. You seemed more forgiving/accepting of the subject matter of the movie because Keanu Reeves is in the movie. I like some of the visuals in the movie. Rachel Weisz was pleasant to look at, as usual. Capturing the demon in the mirror (the mirror exorcism) was striking. Lucifer's multiple whispers of "you will live" seemed a little cheesy. Peter Stormare was one of the woodchipper guys in Fargo (1996).

Clay F

He was good in The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)

Clay F

Bush is awesome. Listened to their first album "Sixteen Stone" (1994) a zillion times in the mid 1990's. Occasionally have songs off that album on my current playlists. Saw Bush in concert in the early 2010s.

Clay F

(I'm assuming you are fairly new here- welcome) It's not anything about you, but it is brought up constantly and she has specifically said, "no," multiple times.

Mike Lemon

I get it guys, not a big deal. It's totally up to her, but I would add that the movie shows very high morals from the heroic priest. I only brought it up because it seems that we just watched a much lesser version of the Exorcist. I appreciate the discussion, but I won't bring it up again.

clutchkman

Yep, Mike's right. She can handle all sorts of stuff now, but there are some subjects which cross a certain moral line for Cassie that she just doesn't want to entertain in her life. She's said so many times. One of those is demonic possession, another is children being abused, a third is children acting scary and demented (see The Shining). Put all three of those high-level Nope Tropes together in one film....and you've got The Exorcist. No doubt it's a great movie, Clutch. A legendary, historic landmark in cinema history. But its chances of ever being watched on Cassie's channel are literally zero.

Clarence Newman

"she could totally handle the Exorcist." 'Can' and 'want to' are two very different things. Why don't people get that?

Mike Lemon

Seeing her handle this movie let's me know that she could totally handle the Exorcist. She's much tougher now and I think she could appreciate the great movie that it is. There's much less gore, and cheap jump scares or typical Hollywood tricks, and more of a good story, with outstanding actors and excellent music. I mean, I totally get it if she just don't want to, I wouldn't watch it either, for years! But now, I'm glad that I did because it's really good. Movies like Constantine have borrowed so much from the Exorcist that by the time she does watch it, the originality may be lost. Just some thoughts, love the channel, and God bless you all.

clutchkman

No, I'm definitely on board with Avatar The Last Airbender as the best animated series ever. I love all of the others mentioned in this thread (especially the Batman, Superman and Justice League shows) but ATLA is my all time favorite. The story, the heart of the show, the character development - unparalleled.

Walter

I think she will get there - she keeps working her way closer and closer, I feel. Next October she should watch The Omen.

Walter

IKR.

Uncle Phoenix

that trailer was so much better than I expected

Walter

Also, this is is something random but I say it because Cassie was disappointed she didn't get the kiss she wanted at the end. Cassie, you need to go watch "Robbie Williams - Come Undone (Live at Knebworth, 2003) on Youtube. Trust me, it will make up for Keanu and Rachel's bodyswerve.

Clarence Newman

Just finished watching the YT edit and I have some technical feedback. In the outro in particular, either Cassie's mic was too low or the background music was too high, because I was struggling at times to hear what she was saying. She was speaking very softly, but that shouldn't make a difference. Turn the music down a bit please. That's not what we're listening to.

Clarence Newman

Constantine was the Roman Emperor who converted the Roman Empire to Christianity, and the name of the character of this comic book franchise. I wish they would have made a sequel back then, a missed opportunity.

Trevor Rotan

I'm pretty sure you missed some kind of post credits scene - which I'm sure others have also mentioned... 😊

Mannygogou

When asked by Stephen Colbert, what character that he would like to revisit that no one is asking him to Keanu answered John Constantine. It was announced 9 months later that a sequel was being produced. In a more recent interview, Stephen took credit lol. You can find excerpts of those interviews on the YT channel for the Late Show.

Mike Lemon

Hard to imagine Keanu being in a movie with Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern.

Chris Thom

Cassie will never know who that random reporter was in Scream...

Chris Thom

Disturbia was his big break if I remember right. Then Transformers.

Chris Thom

Thought he looked familiar.

Chris Thom

Really want to visit these filming locations in LA. They look similar to the ones in Se7en. Curious if that bowling alley is still there.

Chris Thom

All of those are some of the most amazing animated shows out there and arguably part of American societal culture. But not as polished as ATLA. they kind of pave the way.

Go0se

Exactly. I don’t care that he’s not English or blonde or that is follows the comics. It’s a fun movies with some cool mythology. I heard they were going to do a sequel but I don’t know what happened with that.

Stan the Man

Avatar is a great animated TV series but Batman TAS is the GOAT. Superman TAS is also great. Justice League Unlimited. I’d put Avatar after those.

Stan the Man

Balthazar was played by Gavin Rossdale, lead singer of the band Bush and was once married to Gwen Stefani.

Jeff Rogers

Constantine was the Roman Emperor who declared Christianity as the official religion of Rome around 323 CE.

Aaron Summers

So you asked about the name Constantine. Constantine is important in Christian theology due to the Roman Emperor, Emperor Constantine. Basically the reason Christianity became the dominant religion of the west is due to him. He legalized and converted to Christianity. Before this Rome was a pagan society worshipping many gods & goddesses. Constantine converted and Rome slowly did the same. The reason why he converted is interesting, depending on the source and who you believe. Apparently he had a dream/prophecy that he saw realized on a battle field before a battle. He interpreted this as a sign of Christ. The city of Constantinople was named after him.

Stan the Man

Cassie - you forgot to watch the end credits scene. I suggest you check that out!

Michael

I've never read the comics so this is my only reference point for this character/story, but I think this is great. It's total schlock, but Keanu doing a Clint Eastwood impression and grumping his way through his movie is super fun. I didn't catch this one in theaters, but saw it a bunch on cable back in the day, and grew to really enjoy it. Now I unabashedly really love this movie, warts and all. Speaking of warts, Shia LaBeouf must have had the greatest agent ever back in the day, or else he had blackmail on somebody high up or something, because it was amazing how many movies he was in playing a completely superfluous sidekick for a while there. This, I Robot, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, etc. Seemed like some studio exec kept saying "can we write in an annoying teen role for Shia in there somewhere?" Thankfully he's mostly harmless here (his female costars would probably disagree), but there were so many movies there for a stretch where I kept saying "why is this guy always showing up in these movies playing someone totally inconsequential?"

Stranger2Reality

Definitely need a new reel on this channel for the jumping parts 💯💯🇨🇦

Danika Silva

This just makes me want to see the new John Wick movie, Ballerina.

Uncle Phoenix

Hi Cassie, Glad you liked this movie, I always liked it also. But if you like this, you should try 15 years of the great show SUPERNATURAL. Great stories, great mythos, and great acting. (plus 2 main characters that are good looking Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) You will love it. That is after you finish all the Star Trek series....lol....oh and another great series STARGATE SG-1. Just like Hugh Jackman, we will keep you doing this until your 90. LOL..Love Ya.

Brad Enervold

She couldn’t AOT. Cassie would have a stroke.

Go0se

@mikethemotormouth - What is AOT? I can't figure that one out. edit- Oh, Attack on Titan. I haven't watched that one yet.

Mike Lemon

I would put Avatar up there (at least Water and Earth, excepting the blood-bender episode, Fire was a bit meh), but like mikethemotormouth said there are many other contenders to give it the top spot- Batman TAS, Bamboo Blade, Boondocks, The Critic, Darkwing, Gargoyles, Ghost in the Shell SAC, Zoids, etc. One thing I can say is Looney Tunes/Merry Melodies isn't anywhere close to that top spot. So far I've watched about 910 (of 1000) of the original shorts, and boy, are a lot of them terrible.

Mike Lemon

All good. Not all those are going to be fun for your average viewer. ATLA is good for all.

Go0se

He's not but Ellen Burstyn and Max von Sydow are and she's STILL not going to 😤

mikethemotormouth

btw, Cassie - How 'bout those Cougars!?

Above Average Dave

If Keanu was in The Exorcist, Cassie would watch it.

Clarence Newman

ATLA is good but there are wayy too many contenders to say it's the definitive best: Cowboy Bebop, Gurren Lagann, BTAS, FMA, AOT, etc.

mikethemotormouth

To me, Matt Ryan will always be THE best Constantine. Keanu isn't even British...or blonde. Matt Ryan looks, acts, and sounds exactly like he stepped out of the Hellblazer comics.

Shadowlord

It is a good movie. That being said, the Movie doesn’t encapsulate Constantine. The best version of him outside of source material is in the DC animated movies. They do a great job in many of those. Like trek they are a cohesive universe with more story depth than an animated show should have. Also, I believe others will agree. Avatar the last Airbender is the best animated TV show ever made ever. Adult or kid

Go0se

This is one of my favorite movies of all time

Ruben Cifuentez

The best bad adaptation ever. Nothing like the Constantine comics but it's so fun and Keanu plays it so well I can't bring myself to care.
