[YT Edit] Star Trek: TNG - Key Episodes (S7 EP11,12,15)
Added 2024-09-20 22:59:29 +0000 UTC
Hey guys! Here is the YT edit for EP's 11, 12 & 15 which will premiere shortly!
I have to say something. In the episode "Lower Decks" and Riker chastises Ensign Lavell for saying "Aye Aye" and saying that one "Aye" would be sufficient is actually according to Naval tradition is wrong. "Aye, Aye" means "I comprehend and will comply." So, in order for Lavell to be correct in using only one "Aye" he would have to repeat the order verbatim and end with "Aye". I am so sorry for being so "knit-picky". I joined the Navy because of my love for Star Trek.

If you’re watching extra episodes because you just like the show, “The First Duty,” from season 5, is an excellent episode that will give you a little more insight into one guest character from “Lower Decks.”

Great video, Cassie. It's always a pleasure to watch the old favorites with you. It's been a pretty good selection, this season. You managed to avoid all of the family-centric garbage. Season seven is the family season, with episodes featuring La Forge's mother, Troi's long-lost sister, Data's mother, Worf's estranged foster brother, Crusher's grandmother and Picard's long-lost son. It's all a bit much. For extra credit, there is one good episode that didn't quite make the polls, "Genesis." It's weird but fun, and it has the distinction of being the only Star Trek episode directed by Gates McFadden (Crusher).
Regarding some of your questions about "Lower Decks," if you want to know the backstory with the Bajorans and the Cardassians, it's explained in the fifth season episode "Ensign Ro," and if you want to know about the incident at Starfleet Academy that Picard mentions, it's seen in the episode "The First Duty," also fifth season. Both are worthwhile episodes in their own rights, so do please check them out, if you're interested.
Speaking of the Bajorans and the Cardassians, their dynamic is explored in far more depth in the spinoff series "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," aka DS9. That show may not be on your list, since it doesn't have any movies, but you might want to look through it anyway. A lot of highly significant events in the Star Trek universe take place in DS9, and they will continue to be heavily referenced in all subsequent materials. After the first TNG movie, "Star Trek: Generations," if you want to keep up on continuity, I recommend that you pause your TNG journey and spend some time familiarizing yourself with the goings-on of DS9. If you do not, there are a number of things in the remaining three TNG movies that won't make any sense to you. At the point you're at right now, DS9 has already been going for nearly two seasons, but it won't take long to catch up, if you stick to the most important events. Season four, which takes place between the first and second TNG movies, is when DS9 will begin to directly intertwine with the TNG side of the universe, and they will remain intertwined for their durations.

The reason you don’t understand, BaJordans is because by this point there is a Star Trek universe going on. You have DS9 that started in season three of TNG and STV starting mid DS9.
There are crossover events and characters jump shows.
All of this based upon the lore created by TOS.

I laughed when you saw that Terry O'Quinn had been in the West Wing. I had just watched a reaction to that episode.

I grew up with TNG and has some of my fav Star Trek episodes but if push came to shove DS9 from the start of S4 might be my fav Trek. I think it is because of the more continuing arcs which was easier to do being based on a space station rather than an "alien of the week" episode.

It is so hard to believe that 3 of the best TNG episodes were actually in S7, as so many of them were really bad.

Who said season 7 wasn’t that good? Three amazing episodes.

It nags at me that Cassie may never get to know more about the Bajorans and Cardassians. It pained me that she didn't see the episode introducing Ensign Ro ... one of the all-time great part-time Star Trek characters. And if she never gets to Deep Space 9 she'll miss all the culture and world building that series did so well ... with the Bajorans especially filled with haunting echos of some of our real-world cultural conflicts.

What if there’s a universe where Cassie grew up watching action movies and started this channel to watch more rom-coms.

It actually makes me sad realizing that I don't think you've seen a single episode with Luaxana Troi, Thomas Riker, and you didn't know who the ensign on Lower Decks was (😢). I do think you saw one episode with Ensign Ro (a Bajoran), but not enough to remember her. I hope one day you go back and watch more episodes and we get to watch those reactions. ❤️

Great watch, especially Lower Decks. Too bad she didn’t see First Duty. It’s not required, but the outcome of episode makes it way more rewarding. Fun fact: the Vulcan Taurik has a twin brother on Voyager named Vorik. Hopefully she gets to that series (that’s a long way if she does)

There are a few episodes with Nurse Alyssa Ogawa played by Patti Yasutake who recently passed away.

Great episodes and a great reaction vid. I would also suggest you watch episode 20, Journey's End. It is a finale of sorts for a specific character for whom you seem to have a certain fondness. It could have also been used as a series finally so if you record it or not it is definitely worth your time to wrap somethings up.

This should be a great reaction to a truly masterful episode. Looking forward to seeing what Cassie thinks.
