Hey Kernel Club!
How is your week going? Mine was a wee bit better but I'm still battling some kind of sickness/infection. Its affecting my skin and I feel gross and its kind of consuming me. I'm on 3 different antibiotics so hopefully something gets it! We did get to spend a day in the mountains this week with friends, Ben and I finally found something to watch together (Presumed Innocent, really liked it, very bingeable) and I am on a huge declutter and organizing kick and it is making me feel lighter! I can't believe its LABOR day already this weekend? August went SO fast! Anyone have any fun plans for LD?
I'm sorry, I gave away some clues this week about what was coming up, but then had to pull an audible because of Carly's schedj and an ad coming up! I am excited about this week's movies though. Starting our final season of TNG, the long awaited, highly praised Logan (pray for Carly) and a fun start to Football season kicking off (feels like Fall and I can't wait). Invincible will be our watch-along as well for Extra Buttah this Saturday!
I also posted a Poll for a Poll again, Pollception II if you will. I am reading your comments now and I know there a million ideas for polls and I want to get to them all and give all the people what they want as much as the people wanted a Twisters kiss! I know I could go to our requests app and just pick the #1 and do the most popular over and over again but I want to always try to mix variety, genre, old and new and views etc. . I know I am not always the best at that but do know that I am always trying to find that balance!

My reason for watching reactions is seeing someone else watch a movie I've seen and experiencing through them the emotional highs and lows for the first time. But if they've already seen it? So once a month the number 1 film is watched - except for four times a year (quarterly) various random polls are done - Top 250 poll, all 6000+ films poll, top 100 poll, top half (3000+)poll, and so on. This would get things moving while still being fun and interesting. Of course we would just need to get Cassie on board :-)

Step 1, they need to have enough votes to be in the top 100 (easy if the movie is a popular pick, almost no chance at all if it isn't). Step 2, their name needs to be randomly drawn from a hat to make it to a poll (which is limited to like five or six movies). Step 3, win the poll. And because of the infrequency of these polls, movies like Beverly Hills Cop, which has been the top ranked movie since the New Year (if not longer), ends up getting pass over time and time again. Unless I missed it, I can't even recall ever seeing it on a poll (which means it hasn't even made it to step 2). For my last point, I agree with Brent and would say that Cassie should go ahead and react to the #1 movie.

It is extremely violent and bleak, but it is excellent. What it does with the characters is bold and provocative, but very compelling.

The idea that somehow picking these will move things below up. lets fast forward a couple of years. all the top tier picks are down and you're left with mid tier picks.. rinse repeat and its all the low tier picks and the death of the channel! Theres some real gems in the lower ranks. we need to mix it up a bit! I agree though we've got this database and its not being used to its potential. And all of us have picked favoutires that have no chance of seeing the light of day unless we win the trivia comp!

2024-08-27 05:16:45 +0000 UTC🎵LogaaaAAAaaan!🎵 (singing it, not sure why) I hope taking 3 kinds of antibiotics is safe. I know bacteria can build up an immunity to them. I'm about to start talking an antiviral again for an infection I've been told I have in my eye since I'm having lazer eye surgery again. Infections suck so much. I often get sinus infections and FINALLY started using a Neti-pot with distilled water in the last few years with has really helped me get them less often. I recently had one again though when I received a cold/sinus infection after San Diego Comic-Con. After it cleared up I thought I was in the clear but the next day, It somehow turned into my FIRST ear infection in about 30 years! I used to get them all the time between the ages of 3-8. (I'm now quite detail educated on the biology and function of Eustachian Tubes and the middle ear) Imagine having snot in your ear that can't get out because your ear drum is in he way. The pressure was so annoying and slightly painful, started to think I'd have permanent hearing loss, but the antibiotics did the trick in the final days of taking them.

2024-08-27 03:13:48 +0000 UTCWow Cassie! It seems like very week you’re battling either an illness or an injury. You need a “Calgon, take me away” week (sorry if you don’t get the reference). Just one bit of advice…you said you’re on 3 antibiotics right now. I highly recommend following that up with a good, strong probiotic to restore the healthy flora in your gut that the antibiotics are depleting, or you might be dealing with some stomach issues soon. My week has been kind of like the weather the last few days…some happy sun and some gloomy clouds. I just moved my youngest daughter back to campus this weekend, and I miss her terribly. It was so nice to have her home for 3 months. But I’m really happy that’s she’s starting a new semester with a new roommate (her best friend on campus) in a new dorm with new goals. I’m bummed that summer is almost over…I love the summer heat. But, I’m excited to be able to decorate for fall soon, and I’ve got some new outdoor decorations. And, I’m sad that the baseball season is almost over (my favorite sport), but I’m riding high because the Yankees will make the post season…and I feel like this is the year for them to go all the way. I will do my best to make the live watch along on Saturday, but I’ve still got so much work to do in the yard. If not, I’ll definitely catch the next one. And don’t worry about whatever slack you’re getting about polls and such. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Its impossible to make everyone happy all the time. You’ve got enough on your plate at home. PIB should be fun, not stressful (at least until Scary But Not Too Scary October rolls around 😉).

It will be very dark and very violent (it certainly earns it's R rating), but it is also one of the greatest comic book movies ever made (Ryan Reynolds considers it THE greatest one). A reminder that the genre has the potential not just to be silly, goofy, special effect-laden, action-packed fun, but that it can also be deep, profound and emotional. It is the UNFORGIVEN of superhero movies. I don't know how much you are going to like it, but it is definitely worth seeing (and absolutely necessary for DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE). I'm glad you are watching it and I'm looking forward to the reaction.

But as a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan, I truly and deeply hate the Eagles It will be a tough re-watch for me. This is the first time coach Vermeil was portrayed on film. He was done so again on American Underdog, which based on the true story of Kurt Warner. Also, a very good movie.

And I love the TDK. I will die on that hill. Very surprising from the same Director as Identity and Ford v Ferrari. Even though his best is Copland with Sly Stallones best performance, but you’ll get it that one eventually. Sooo stoked!
