I might go ahead and recommend you watching DARK PHOENIX before you jump into LOGAN and DEADPOOL 2 just to see how they wrapped up these versions of the characters, despite it being the least of the X-Men films, but the score is still 🔥 and you get Fassbender and McAvoy.

It's funny that Cassie recognizes Sophie Turner as marrying on of the Jonas Brothers. I didn't even know who the Jonas Brothers were. Until she married one. The only thing I recognize Sophie Turner is Sansa Stark from GOT.
But my Gf and I loved your reaction to this. Yeah Yeah.

Well Fetch indeed! I remember really liking this film when it came out but haven't seen it since. It's still really good. Reminds me of Skyfall where at the end you see all the pieces come together and it... classic Bond. Well this is sorta the same for the X-Men. Bryan Singer directed the best of the original three and some of the best of the second series of X-films. The timeline re-boot messed with some people and though it was fairly epic it didn't compete with the MCU films at that time (Civil War, Infinity War etc.) Apocalypse is almost a Thanos like villain and in fact if they had done him in this movie the way they did him in those films (Motion capture etc.) it would've been waaaay more comic accurate. As is it's still pretty epic and sets up the X-team for future adventures. Thanks for the watch ladies, ya'll are always entertaining!

Only saw this once and remember nothing about it. Except I'm pretty sure the mutants' mansion blows up at some point. And super speedy guy has another epic scene cleaning it up? Or something? Maybe that's the wrong movie. To be honest all these films really start to blur together around this point.

The thing which was the emotional anchorpoint for me in this movie was bringing back Moriah into the plot and her relationship with Charles. That made me care and made me invested. The rest of the film, I wasn't too interested in, although re-watches have made me care a little bit more. The first time I saw the scene where Erik loses his family it was out of context during a 15 min break while working as an usher at a movie theater, and it just felt so utterly tragic to me that is felt a bit silly. Like how you said about in Deadpool something to the effect of.... paraphrasing = 'so much blood that you can't take it seriously and it almost becomes a cartoon', this was so much trauma I couldn't take it seriously. Inventing a whole new family for Erik to lose before half the movie is over just so he'd feel bad enough to be villainous again. At the time it felt cheap to me, but as I said, re-watches have made me more sentimental and empathic, along with the realization that his daughter is reaching out to him the same way he reached out to his mother.

What's also sad is that this could've been a great movie, but they botched so much. I read about some of the behind the scenes stuff and had a few friends at Marvel at time. As mentioned JLaw was a head case and a diva, but she looked like Mr. Rogers compared to the human meltdown that was Bryan Singer (at least from some of the day-to-day stories I heard). He was supposed to keep the momentum going after DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, but he's really responsible for making this mess more than anyone. Sad, because Apocalypse was one of those comic book villains like Doom who could just scare the reader by showing up on a page.

With the sound design of modern movies, subtitles are essential for me. I wish I had them in the movie theater, so I could actually understand the dialogue! Although I must admit, the last movie I saw in the theater Deadpool & Wolverine, it was pretty good. But I hate the sound design of modern movies.

This one and Dark Phoenix has a huge drop in quality Imo, I don’t mind some of this one though and what they tried to do. But when I re-watch Dark Phoenix with your reaction that will be an interesting watch as I hated it in the cinema and I’ve not watched it since.
I can fully understand why you where confused lol. I also thought Sophie Turner was a bad choice for Jean, they have never got Cyclops correct and I also hated how they wrote Mystique in this and especially Dark Phoenix because they only made her into a good character just because Jennifer Lawrence was playing her. Which I’ll never get on board with especially one of the lines from Dark Phoenix or it could be this one I can’t remember. But I’ll be watching it later today.

"He's not cute"... that cracked me up when "Apocalypse" first arrived. Mainly because I think Cassie has the exact opposite opinion of "Poe Dameron" from the sequel "Star Wars" trilogy who is played by the same actor, and a fine actor at that, Oscar Isaac. He wasn't a fan of the outfit as it was so heavy and cumbersome, which if I recall correctly is a reason why he is not overly physical in the movie.
You can't think about the timelines too much either not only was it altered in "days of future past", but they also jump jump 10 years forward from each movie in this block of 3 from "First class" to this one.
Mojo One Thousand
2024-08-20 13:36:30 +0000 UTC
The "deification of Mystique" started out the back of "Days of future past" and I think it was driven a bit by J. Law behind the scenes, my understanding was she was getting a bit too big for her britches, and starting to try and impose herself creatively as she was one of the most bankable stars a the time.

A little clarifications of some things as I understand them which you might be unsure about - Jean restored some of, but not all of the memories Logan lost, although how he lost them in this timeline, I'm not sure since he hasn't been shot in the head with the adamantium bullets by striker.
This timeline is an alternate past, changed because Mystique saved the president instead of killing Trask, so now she can be a part of the X-Men instead of part of Eric's brotherhood of mutants, also so characters which met for the first time at specific points in the previous future, now sometimes meet each other for the first time earlier under different circumstances. None of this film's events happened of course in the past of the previous original first 3 X-Men film's alternate future, so we don't know exactly what the future holds in store, other than Logan waking up and being at the mansion with Professor X, Scott, Jean, Storm, etc.
Even though Mystique appearing as Col. Striker at the end of Days of Future Past saved Logan, like she did for Kurt in THIS film, Striker still got him somehow in this alternate timeline which is different than the circumstances in which he got his claws in X-Men Origins Wolverine. The two different versions of him getting adamantium claws both happened in 1979 as far as I can tell from what I've read up, but perhaps this time it didn't involve Kayla or his brother, or possibly did, but in different unknown ways. In the comics and cartoon Logan's relationship with them both of them were false implanted memories to cover up the real memories of the murder missions they were sent on in the Weapon X program lies, based on partial truths. (at least that's what I remember, I need to rewatch that episode for the first time in like 20 years, lol).
Update: just rewatched that cartoon episode which is about similar events which happened in Origins Wolverine, (Weapon X, Lies, and Videotape). Some of the imagery and basic concepts are quite similar to the movie, like him and Kayla(Silverfox) driving around in Canada, the idea of her and his relationship being "fake". Both the movie and episode give me the same emotions. Probably why like like the movie more than others. Being only a 20 mins long cartoon episode, it's impressive the information and emotional state it can put a person in. It uses very melancholy and contemplative early 90s "world" music in the background to help. What's nuts is that in the cartoon even THEY don't know if what they remember about their relationship is real or just false memories. Although Victor's appearance is pretty dissimilar, his attitude and presence is quite similar to the movie.

It COULD be the bland villain, continued poor execution of The Phoenix, inconsistent actions of the main cast, deification of Mystique, paper thin plot, or the fact the actors were just over it because Fox was sold before this came out. Fight scenes were fun though, must be a good film.

The timeline stops making sense. Don't expect these characters to do the same events from the first three movies. Think of it as the an alternate 1980s because they changed the past. Like Back to the Future...
Some things repeat, others change completely. Some people like Angel and Nightcrawler have completely different pasts now. You just gotta chalk it all up to time stuff.
You may want to watch Loki before Deadpool & Wolverine which is suspected to come out on VOD late next month, maybe longer if it keeps crushing in theaters.

Possible spoilers? I don't think there are but just in case I wanted to go ahead and put that disclaimer here.
The timeline is not as confusing as people make it out to be. They try to overthink it and then they try to get everyone else to overthink it. But it's really simple. So in the prologue, X-Men Origins starts in the late 1800s and you see Logan and Victor fight in the Civil war, World War I, World War II, and gets captured in Vietnam. Joins Stryker's team, has enough, walks away. X-Men First Class takes place around this time as we see In First Class Eric and Charles walking to the bar to try to get Logan to help and Logan tells them to go about their merry way with a much more aggressive expression. In the original timeline, you have origins, first class, x-men, X-Men united, X-Men Last stand, Wolverine, Days of Future past. Days of future past sends Logan back in time to 1973 while he's still taking on a few jobs and hasn't moved to Canada to find his little lady yet. Now because of the disruption that going back in time causes, Victor never murders the crew, stryker never goes on his little weapon 11 experiment tirade. In fact, Days of Future past made stryker more aggressive in a sense and set in motion a changed timeline. So in the reset, you have the first third of X-Men origins, and first class, Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, and some version of the original trilogy happens as well, Deadpool 1&2, a version of The Wolverine. The New mutants, logan, then Deadpool and Wolverine all happen after Deadpool 1 and 2 chronologically.
So, simplified:
X-Men Origins
X-Men First Class
X-Men
X-Men United
X-Men the Last Stand
The Wolverine
X-Men Days of Future Past
*Timeline reset 1973 onward*
X-Men Apocalypse
Dark Phoenix
*A version of the original trilogy happens but one where Jean doesn't die as we saw at the end of Days of Future Past that she was alive and a veraion of The Wolverine as well, just slightly changed*
Deadpool
Deadpool 2
The New Mutants
Logan
Deadpool and Wolverine
