[YT Edit] Star Trek: The Next Generation (S6E26 | S7E01)

Comments

She'll get to meet him in First Contact....but just for a second

Kelly Oehlschlager

Safe spoilers, I feel. If Cassie reads this, she'll probably think "Queen of the what now?" and then forget about it by tomorrow. When she finally meets the Queen, it will be as if they had never met.

Clarence Newman

That is cool. You might remember this, Ria, but when Hawking was on the Star Trek set, they took him to see engineering. He took one look at the warp core and said "I'm working on that."

Clarence Newman

I went to a talk given by Stephen Hawking in London, he was a very happy nerd about his appearance on Star Trek and played that entire clip for us at the beginning… I didn’t understand much of what he talked about after that… space and time stuff I think, but the Star Trek bit I got.

Ria Grix

I remember seeing this episode when it was new... and waiting three agonizing months for the second part! It is a great luxury to be able to stream things, now. You're not wrong, though, about the days of broadcasting building anticipation. Everything on television felt a little more special, then. I don't know that I'd go back, though. Anyway, I'm glad you liked this one. It is a pretty exciting episode(s), but I have a big problem with it. It's one of many examples in Star Trek of this era, and in episodic television in general, of very significant developments being too conveniently resolved and/or forgiven. Regardless of what Lore was doing to him, the fact remains that Data acted in hostility toward his ship and crew, resulting in death and endangerment. He absolutely should not be back at his station like nothing happened, after this. He would need a thorough debriefing at a secured site, at minimum, to ensure that no further threat exists and to absolve him of his actions. In fact, in any real-life service, he would never be allowed back onto a ship or in active duty of any kind until some security measure had been taken to guarantee that he can never be influenced like this again. Sure, it's fiction and we can say whatever we want, but with something as glaring as this, it's hard for me to suspend disbelief. Also, Cassie, you did indeed miss a previous episode that was relevant to this one, that being "Brothers" in season four. It explains how Lore returned from his fate in "Datalore" and what the chip is that they keep talking about here. I had noted, at the time, that it would be worth checking out, even though it didn't win the poll, because this episode calls back to it (as does the first TNG movie, "Star Trek: Generations"). It's also a good episode, on its own merits. Definitely worth looking up, if you're in the mood for a little extracurricular viewing to get you totally up to speed. It's not absolutely necessary, though. You got the essentials here, that Lore came back and that there is an emotion chip for Data, if he wants it. Lastly, your appraisal of Data's emotional state is absolutely bang-on. Brent Spiner himself said of his performance, "Data has emotions, he just doesn't realize it." Very perceptive!

Nothing to shed a tear for.😂 Felt like an episode from season 1 or unpublished story from TOS.

DiSarli

Alas, she will never meet Broccoli. Genesis was her last chance, but in the poll race below, it seems to have pulled a hammy.

Clarence Newman

I bet Broccoli would have loved it if Cassie‘s sweater slogan would have hold true… 😂

DiSarli

I was like:“I don’t know the guy. Usually there is no one in that spot. He will be shot in a few seconds.“

DiSarli

dude, spoilers

Kharak

Yep, it’s Star Trek law! If you are a random red on a away mission, your dead!! 😂

Mark White

Hi Cassie, can I just say Thank you so much for this Star Trek journey you have been on. It’s aloud me to relive it all over again. My Anxiety has been particularly high recently and your reactions have given my brain a chance to switch off, relax and enjoy. I look forward to it every week almost like back in the old days! So In answer to your question? I suppose I am enjoying having to wait each week and having something to look forward to. Not to long though! Like Crocodile Dundee 2!! That wait is killing me!! 🤪

Mark White

I really don’t think Cassie will watch Voyager or DS9. Maybe on her own one day. BUT I would pay anything! to see Cassie watch Voyager. It’s a big statement, but I think she would like Janeway even more than Picard or Kirk!!

Mark White

"Franklin! Do I know him?" Is Cassie the only Trek fan ever to show concern for a fallen 'red shirt'? (And yes, I know Franklin was wearing gold, but 'red shirt' in the Trek universe does not necessarily refer to the shirt colour.) During the Full Reaction to this, I had one such moment. When the Away team beamed onto the outpost at the beginning and I noticed 3 main characters and one I'd never seen before, my instant reaction was "Yep. She's dead."

Clarence Newman

I strongly recommend when you watch the series finale 'All Good Things' you watch it on a platform like Netflix that shows it as one episode as it was originally aired and not in two separate parts. Many scenes are cut out in two separate parts to make room for the extra end credits, opening credits and 'previously on...' when viewed in two parts. I learned this while watching another reaction where the reactor had the finale as one episode and I had it as two episodes and all of a sudden there was scene after scene not in my version and it took me a while to figure out why.

Andrew Roach

Plus why would she not continue with star trek and star wars? It's evergreen content. This Franchises will always always bring in viewers.i mean TNG is 30 plus years old and still getting top views. From a business standpoint make total sense to bring in people who watch certain universes whether trek, marvel, DC or Star wars as theyl stay and watch more stuff. She's clever enough to give us this and continue watching different movies and different genres, for her core audience, but also cater for new audiences.

rakesh

When you meet the Queen of the Hive, the Borge become more interesting. Not in the Next Generation Series though. Both the Bridge crew actors did play other characters and a few other repeating actors in the series. Like the Q girl played other characters.

Tim C

The fact is she likes watching these so much she's watched epsiodes by herself. And it's a pity she's felt that because of negative feedback that she didn't record reactions to them as those of us who would have enjoyed watching with her didn't get the chance. Sure watching this comes at the expense of stuff. But she enjoys it!. She enjoys rom coms. I don't , but at the same I dont pop into every rom com reaction that I don't watch and bang on about hey where's the sci fi and action movies. Simple fact is that she expanded her horizons and enjoys genres both TV and movies that she would never have entained before. She's got more than enough material now to please everyone.

rakesh

The first movie was very good. I loved it back in 2009 and I love it today. I predict Cassie will love it too. The other two movies however... A different story 😂.

Caomhan84

Given the almost allergic reaction to criticism of the ongoing saga of TNG reactions, I’m really looking forward to the fawning adoration that will undoubtedly be heaped on the CGI fests that are the Chris Pine movies. Ooh, pretty pretty colors. Movie good. People that don’t like movie, bad.

Just Plain Bob

I can't see her watching Deep Space Nine on the channel. It's just too convoluted later on for the limited episode thing she does, and it might cause a viewer mutiny. However, I would highly recommend that she watch DS9 completely on her own, in her own time. Because I think she would really enjoy it now that she is a true Star Trek fan.

Caomhan84

What binging ruins most for me is that it used to be that an episode would come out and you'd spend all week discussing it with your friends, theorizing where it might lead even, if it was that type of show. The Disney + MCU shows were giving me that for a bit, before everyone soured on the MCU, but nearly every other streaming service just releases everything at once, so now you get just one discussion about the whole season and then everyone forgets about the show for a year.

Kevin Bartelen

Dude you don't have to watch it. There's plenty of other stuff on this channel other than the Star Trek reactions. She has made sure that Star Trek has not taken over the channel. She has a very eclectic mix of entertainment here. I have left channels before that let one thing take over. That has not happened in this instance. You've got four TNG movies, and then three Chris Pine movies... And Star Trek will probably be put to bed for a long time on here. Her watching Picard is a long shot at best. And even if she does, I would think that she will watch it after a break.

Caomhan84

I'd say you're rolling the dice on getting a reaction you want no matter what, just like the rest of us. Sometimes you get a good streak of content you really like and sometimes you have to deal with content you're not a fan of. I've been there multiple times in the last 3 years.

@Ike - "I just don’t see the sense in opening up a post (not a poll) to comment negatively about something people," I didn't. I read most of the comments, at least top level. I only replied in this thread because of the entitlement and condescension shown.

Mike Lemon

@Katie - What analogy would you use when one group is guaranteed to get what they want nearly every week 10 months (or more) and another group has to roll the dice for a 1 in 6 or 1 in 10 (or worse) chance to see something they might have an interest in?

Mike Lemon

+1 for Voyager (and Janeway in particular)

Clay F

"Hue we go again!" Top notch humor, Cassie! I approve!!!!!

Chris Bailey

@Mike Lemon If I was rude, I apologize. I just don’t see the sense in opening up a post (not a poll) to comment negatively about something people, including Cassie herself, seem to be enjoying. I disappear every October, without leaving my negativity of horror genre in the comments. It’s a mindless act in my opinion and perhaps I expressed it harshly.

Ike

Crumbs? Cassie is only doing 3 Star Trek reactions a month and 9 reactions to movies that have nothing to do with Star Trek.

Katie Jackson

@Ike - "Skip it" I do. I skip a lot of... wait let me just pull up what I wrote earlier. Just change the names- @Kelly - "He does not have to watch her Star Trek reactions if he doesn’t like them." 'He' doesn't, 'he' doesn't watch a lot of the reactions, and that is the point. When there is so very much time taken by one series/franchise, there is instantly less chance for variety that might appeal to others.

Mike Lemon

@Mike Lemon That was still flippant. I’m sorry. Truly.

Ike

Yeah Mike, you’re the victim here. I apologize for my language. Please continue…

Ike

And then the, "Shut up and take it. You guys can have some crumbs after our banquet," nonsense. Perfect.

Mike Lemon

@Mr. Lemon, Maybe it won’t end, what then? And whatever answer comes behind that question - it’s better to decide that now rather than ruin everyone’s else fun. You could have TOTALLY skipped this post - as some of us do - with content we have little interests in. But since you’re here - let me be the first one to point out that you don’t have to watch Cassie smile in these Star Trek reactions. Skip it… or suffer in silence and relieve us of the reminder that YOU don’t personally like it. As usual, there were 2-3 other movie reactions this week - perhaps one of those will be to your liking.

Ike

I think it ended up being more because she was enjoying it so much. She admitted to watching more episode off camera too. It’s not as if she isn’t giving us plenty of other content in-between. Enjoy the ride.

Shad Kanyak

I'm sad we are getting to the end of tng. I really do hope we get to watch other star trek series, though I would understand if we take a break. Voyager is my nostalgia favorite for personal reasons and I think it has some of the most unique characters and Janeway!

Ian A

@Shad - That illustrates the problem perfectly. It started with just the movies. Then four episodes of TOS. Then it was only a few episodes of TNG, then what, two episodes per season? That wasn't enough for some people, so it was four, then six (season premier and finale), then two-parters only count as one. Now you are pushing for 30 episodes of Picard, others are pushing for VOY and/or DS9 too. It's been *eight freaking months* already, but it just never ends.

Mike Lemon

It will end if you stop watching, snowflake.

Ortizmo2000

She will react to the TNG movies and the Chris Pine trilogy. Then, ST is likely over for the channel. I guess a remote possibility she will react to Picard S3 (which many have mentioned) but I don't think she has mentioned. Picard S3 (10 episodes) "is a fitting conclusion to TNG and a good farewell for beloved characters."

Clay F

If she plans to stick to the rule of only 5 per season it will make the later seasons of DS9 problematic at best. It’s a FANTASTIC show though. Best of the franchise IMO.

Ortizmo2000

Dr. Crusher being Captain is one of my favorite aspects of Descent. I look forward to your reaction to the Chris Pine ST trilogy. Leonard Nimoy said: Star Trek (2009) has "great heart with the characters. ... capture[s] the essence of the fun of the Star Trek characters, the chemistry between the people, the excitement of becoming part of that crew and going out on this adventure. ... I was pleased with how they treated the Spock character. I thought that they really got it. ... I was very happy to see Zachary Quinto take over the character. I think he’s an excellent, well-trained actor and excellent for the job."

Clay F

Next are the TNG movies and the Chris Pine ST trilogy. I don't believe that anyone really thinks she will react to DS9 (which I love).

Clay F

Cassie, you were asking about season finales. The 80's had In my opinion had some really good ones. Example Dallas with the Who Shot Jr. season finale. That episode aired in March of 1980 and because of( I believe) an actor's strike the new season didn't begin until November of that year.

Stuart Guthrie Jr.

I hope not. Still 4 movies and in the very least season 3 of Picard if not all 3 seasons.

Shad Kanyak

Cassie is enjoying Star Trek - so are many of Cassie’s fans. We’re here if you need a hug.

Ike

Next up is Deep Space Nine!

thansen

This TNG nonsense will eventually end right?
