Godzilla and Dudley Moore's Arthur. Phoenix, that is the most random comparison of two movies I've ever seen.

I'm very glad you got to see this movie, Cassie. It really is something special. So well done. I'm also glad to hear you contemplating watching more Godzilla movies. I'm a lifelong fan, and I would love to see your reaction to the others. You're right to guess that they'll fall a bit short of this one, but you have to remember that they're not going for the same thing. "Godzilla Minus One" is meant for people like me, who grew up on this material and want a more grown up take on it. The older movies, from the Sixties through the Nineties, are much more kiddish and fantasy-based. Actually, very few Godzilla movies are particularly serious, and you happened to pick two of them for your initial exploration of the franchise. You'd get a much more balanced understanding of what Godzilla is about, if you also watched some of the lighter ones. Perhaps you might do a block of them, as you've done for other characters/franchises? How about a poll to select four from the Showa Series (the classic, original run, spanning 1954-1975), then maybe two from the Heisei Series (1984-1995) and two from the Millennium series (1999-2004)? Or what the heck... watch all of them! Make a whole journey of it, like you are with Star Trek. Whatever you decide to do, I encourage you to continue. Godzilla is a rich, wildly fun world that is very much worth diving deep into.

I was so happily surprised by this movie. It was so good. Kind of like The Opposite of the Remake of the Dudley Moore classic “Arthur”. I’m pretty sure Cassie hasn’t seen the wonderful Original, and it is an endearing Romantic Comedy.
