Star Trek TNG Key Episodes (S6 EP 4,10,11) - Full Reaction

Comments

Cassie, You should watch and react to The Caine Mutiny from 1954. It deals in much more detail with the issues of command style and crew loyalty. It was nominated for every Academy Award possible except Best Actress. Humphrey Bogart's performance was hailed by one critic as a "movie legend". It allegedly inspired the 25th Amendment to the Consitution to deal with the issues depicted in the film. Another good reaction would be Patton from 1970 starring George C. Scott. It DID win multiple Academy Awards and features one of the best character studies and acting performances in all of movie history. The fact that it is a true story makes it even better. There are a lot of incredible older movies out there and I think it could be a lot of fun to include more of them on the channel. I really enjoy your channel.

Ron White

I thought that bug flying past the camera was flying past my monitor. I even tried to swat at it a couple times, lol.

Dustin Denner

Relics marks the last of the TNG crossovers with the Original series, but not the last crossovers ever. For more, Cassie is going to have the watch Deep Space 9 (3 crossovers with characters from the original series & 1 crossover that involves time travel) & Voyager (1 crossover with a member of the original series main cast). Not going to say anything else to avoid any spoilers in case Cassie decides to take the dive & start watching those series.

Donald Fleming

Well, you got it right...it's Riker, but I guess the question should have been worded differently...because it specifies the rank of CAPTAIN...not just any senior officer who temporarily took command. Who were the 3 CAPTAINS of the Enterprise D? Picard, Jellico and the 3rd is Riker because he was actually promoted to captain during "Best of Both Worlds."

Pianodean

Riker obviously. He takes command of the Enterprise temporarily multiple times throughout TNG. He's not the only senior officer that does too, but I don't want to say who else gets a shot in case Cassie reads this comment and it spoils it for her.

KTVindicare

It literally is the military though. When not at war, its mission is science, diplomacy, and exploration, sure. But in certain situations, when called on to do so, the fleet is the Federation's military, and all officers and crew are supposed to understand that.

Allan Rumberger

I remember playing Star Trek TNG trivia and getting the question: "Name THREE captains of the Enterprise D.." 1. Picard 2. Jellico 3. ?? I couldn't believe I wasn't able to come up with the 3rd (at the time) but once I got the answer I was like...OMG that should've been SO OBVIOUS....first person to get the answer...I will buy you a shot of Aquafina.

Pianodean

You would really be doing yourself a disservice if you don't watch "Brothers" before "Descent." I still can't believe "Bros" didn't make the cut.

Pianodean

The Actor Ronnie Cox played Captain Edward Jelicho in Chain of Command and is a very good actor and has played a lot of villains. Robo Cop and Total Recall before this and Star Gate SG-1 tv series after this. I was sad that he didn't appear in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.

Stephen Last

We would have gotten behind that

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Picard season 3 was one of the good shows.

Mark

The Chris Pine films are bad, worse and absolutely awful.

Mark

I was lobbying for more cornerstone TOS episodes in place of Star Trek 5. Thought that would be a better option, but it didn't happen.

Shawn Kildal

I am really happy to know to that we are not the only ones with the same mindset

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

I think your take is pretty widely shared. First Contact is great, Generations is "okay", and the others are just bad. I actually wish she would give us some extra episode choices in lieu of the final two movies.

Chris Parker

@Chrissonator I mean exactly what I said. I won't go into the long list but all that season 3 is, for the most part, is Member Berries, Fan Servicing, and Jangling Keys. I expect a lot more from my entertainment than this, but I suspect most people's expectations have dramatically fallen. I will also the most obvious problem with Season 3 in a question... Is Picard alive or dead for season 3?! Exactly!

Doug Fisher

Yeah that's kinda of what we thought. I mean we absolutely loved the Chris Pine movies those were a blast.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

It leaned to heavily on the military thing. The federation isn't supposed to be a military

John Sullivan

You're right. They used him as an excuse to give the actors things they wanted

John Sullivan

Not worth it IMO. Maybe after the good shows if it goes that far

John Sullivan

He's not bad considering that he's got to fix all the real problems 😂

John Sullivan

The 2nd two next gen movies are not very good. The messaging was all over the place.

John Sullivan

exactly. Starfleet doesn’t have dedicated tactical ground teams?

Marcos

I really don’t like Chain of Command. I didn’t like the conflict with the new captain, and especially did not like the Picard in captivity scenes. Relics was fun: Frame of mind was my favorite from S6 though.

Marcos

The Chris Pine movies, when Eva and I watched those we were amazed the stories were engaging we were constantly on the edge of our seats. As for the Next Generation movies. We thoroughly enjoyed First Contact we loved the story. We both believe that Cassie will love Star Trek Generations. Even though we thought it could have been better. Star Trek Nemesis and Insurrection we just didn't like. They just weren't for us. That doesn't mean they were bad films and other people will have different opinions I am sure. Out of all the Next Generation films the only one we really liked was First Contact. Now granted we are not hardcore Star Trek fans in fact the only reason we like it is because Cassie does. Their were episodes of the Next Generation series that we really liked. We only watched select episodes from season 6 and 7 though.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Nah

ShazD

Geordi has always been kind of a dick

ShazD

That "1984" thing...INTENSE. One of Sir Pat's finest acting jobs.

Pianodean

Picard S1 & S2 were downright crimes against humanity.

Pianodean

The good thing about the "Picard" series is that it's only 3 seasons long (same as The Mandalorian, which she's already binge-watched) and has only 10 episodes per season (same as Band of Brothers and The Pacific, only one or two more than Wandavision and True Detective). Cassie adores JLP (she just admitted to us that he's her best friend), so I think she would breeze through 3 seasons of "Picard". Plus there's a mountain of easter eggs from start to finish, so I think she'd love it. A selection for a few months down the road maybe, but certainly one to keep in mind.

Clarence Newman

You're a true Trekkie. I give you my blessing as a nerd who loved Trek since I watched it with my dad in the 90s

John Sullivan

(Taken spoiler) Are you really telling me when Liam Neeson cranked that switch in Taken, you thought, 'Bryan (Liam) is a "terrible scumbag!"', and not, 'Yeah! That other guy deserves it.'?

Mike Lemon

Relics was so fun! Engineers are the quiet heroes of Star Trek. They build the utopian future we all enjoy!

John Sullivan

Finally got to watch the reactions. Marina Sirtis had always wanted to wear an actual uniform which is why Jellico tells her to put one on. Also in the ready room there was a fish tank in the background which Patrick Stewart never cared for.

David Kent

I wonder if you plan to watch Picard at all. Especially season 3.

Yaisu

Cassie seems to be caught between two different points of view regarding future Star Trek reactions (what to watch and what not to, when and if to stop with the films), so I'd like to suggest a solution. She's currently committed to watching season 6 and 7 of TNG. The four TNG movies will follow, then the Chris Pine reboot films. After this, I think she intends to move on, which is fine, because there are a lot of people on here who are not Trek fans and a ton of other content to get through. However, that still leaves a lot of great Trek content we want her to see, so may I suggest she take a break of no more than ten years (I don't want to pressure her) and then take a look at the following: Optional! - Have another run through the Original Series and watch 4 more episodes. No more than that is necessary, but it will enable her to revisit her OG buddies. Optional! - Go through the TNG series again and watch an extra 4 from each season. There are PLENTY of great episodes that haven't made the cut this time. Then do the same thing with Deep Space 9. It's a little more difficult to pick 4 episodes from DS9 because of the story arc, but we can work that out when we get there. The storytelling is generally grittier than TNG, but at its best, it's peak Star Trek. Also, Chief O'Brien is in it from the start and Worf joins in Season 4. Then watch Voyager. It'll be a lot easier to pick 4 episodes per season from that series as it has less of a story arc, but there's still a lot of great stuff to watch. Cassie will love the Captain and the Doctor in particular, and (I have a sneaky feeling) Chakotay. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to Trek so I'll leave recommendation of the reboots to others. I suggest all of these because they are the Trek universe Cassie has come to know and love and we have a duty to help her with the terrible withdrawal symptoms she is going to suffer when she's done with the films. How can I have forgotten the "Picard" series? I'm adding it now because of the comments of others. Cassie would love that series.

Clarence Newman

I also agree that season 3 was not that good, or at least it wasn't for me. On the second viewing. It was a move in the right direction, but it's still about 7 out of 10.... Well short of amazing. I think that if Terry Matalas had been involved since the start of the show, the entire experience would have been different. And I think we would have gotten something more coherent and more in keeping with the spirit of Star Trek.

Caomhan84

But if she watches Nepenthe, She will wonder who the girl is with Captain Picard. And then she will wonder why Captain picardi is acting out of character (Because that show was obsessed with deconstructing him and the writers for season 1 had no clue how to write him correctly...which drove me insane). But if She watches season 3 alone, she will have plenty of questions about the situation, how far in the future it is, and she'll wonder what she missed by skipping seasons 1 and 2. It'll be a mess. So while part of me wants her to watch Picard, part of me thinks that skipping it would be best. Unless she wants the bookend at the end of all this.

Caomhan84

I agree. I think the only episode that would be good to see before season three is S01E07 Nepenthe.

Imzadi

I predict she'll be wide-eyed at her first convention, and in costume for her second!😄 Hope she sets a budget though: they're expensive experiences to get the most out of, though thoroughly enjoyable!

Chris Clarke

LONG time since I've seen Time Bandits. Worthy of a Cassie-watch, methinks!

Chris Clarke

If Cassie goes to the upcoming Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas, I would recommend watch the first episode of most of the series so that she will be acquainted with more than 90% of the actors there: First Episode of: - DS9 - Voyager - Enterprise - Discovery - Strange New World - Lower Deck (optional since actors are voice overs) and Season 3 finale/S4E1 of Voyager since Jeri Ryan's character also crossed over to Picard. If these became a live reaction than I'm sure the entire Trek fan base will go wild!

Tech Citizen

Yup, they also consulted with Amnesty International. :)

Chrissonator

@Ortizmo2000 for me, I'd rate the seasons in reverse order, season 3 was the best, followed by season 2, followed by season 1. lol

Chrissonator

@Doug Fisher - Season 3 was amazing, wym?!

Chrissonator

I think changing the way an entire crew operates, causing dissention as well as confusion, just before facing a possible battle is not only unreasonable but foolhardy. There was zero need for it other than ego.

Doug Fisher

I have to disagree. Yes, Jellico had them snap toing, but the crew had zero trust in him. An Officer you do not trust is a bad Officer. I do agree that David Warner is a great actor. You hate him when he is the bad guy and love him when he is not, both signs of that acting talent. End of line.

Doug Fisher

S3 was not really that good. It just didn't suck as bad as S1&2.

Doug Fisher

Time Bandits is almost Disney quality in fun and cinematic quality. GREAT casting.

Ortizmo2000

Patrick Steward studied a bunch of actual torture cases and is a real life advocate for victims of torture by the way. A lot of his acting is informed by real people getting tortured. It's sick and terrible and he really showed it to everyone watching this episode. It's not something a brave hero "endures". It fucking sucks and is terrible even for our greatest heroes. Everyone who does it is a terrible scumbag.

Ullrich Pfeiffer

Is he really bad though? He's not Picard, he's a soldier. But he's not evil and actually cares for everyone, he's just a rough guy trying to get everyone in shape. He's like a coach who treats you badly to get you ready for the actual game. And after his training you realize that he's not actually that bad and just did his best to prepare you for a fight. In Deep Space 9, he would have been one of the best captains around. Not nice, but good to have around once stuff is dangerous. Despite all their fancy speeches, Starfleet is still military. As long as the guy in charge does well, he or she doesn't have to be nice.

Ullrich Pfeiffer

This was so fun to watch. Thanks! It was so exciting and I love the audio jumpscares that make it sound like your being attacked by the Borg. Just kidding. You should definitely be a starship captain, I don't know if "Oh my gosh!!" would be a good catchphrase. Might have to work on that.

Ian A

S3 was done so well that watching the previous two is totally unnecessary. And I know because I watched it all. The first two seasons were a disaster.

Ortizmo2000

If you love Trek then you are true Trekkie. That's all that matters!

Vault Dweller

I really want Cassie to watch season three of Picard once she finishes TNG and the movies. It takes place twenty plus years after the last movie Nemesis and is an excellent ‘book end’ and love letter to the fans of TNG. It’s serialized so Cassie would have to watch all 10 episodes to get the whole story but it is so worth it. I would recommend but it’s not totally necessary to watch the other two seasons of Picard on her own time to thoroughly enjoy and understand season three but they add a little extra context. In any case I can’t recommend season three Picard enough. It’s exceptional. Make it so.

Anthony Oberhauser

i love this comment, that you were thinking of me watching, made me smile thank you

Cassie

For everyone who voted for Relics, it really was a love letter to Cassie - mission accomplished :)

Story Archer

I'm wondering if Picard holds the Federation record for most times kidnapped.

John Deardurff

Well, Cassie most recently saw Ronny Cox as the main villain in Total Recall, so I was wondering if she was going to make the connection there.

Mike LL

Second Chances is a special episode that Cassie would love!

Mike LL

Poor Capt. Copenhagen. First Arrnie murders him, then Riker emasculates him.

ArsTropica

I think it’s absolutely paramount that you watch the Godzilla spin off Mothra

Thomas Thompson

And additionally with Scotty - don't worry, he catches up with the times. In the beta canon books he even becomes the head of the Engineering Corps and starts a new revolution of Starship design.

Laura Thornley

I do recommend, as said before, to watch a bit more TNG on your own time. There are so many great episodes. And consider Deep Space Nine in the future, even if its just for yourself. Maybe give it a breather once you're through the TNG movies - but DS9 has some of the best characters and plot threads in all of Trek. And so many love stories!

Laura Thornley

Absolutely, besides chain of command that's the only other episode I really wanted Cassie to see. The problem is people vote for their favorite episodes and not episodes Cassie would really enjoy. It should be a mixture of both.

Andrew Ramos

Ah your right, I forgot about Beverly hills cop, balances his character from robocop.

Bubba Fett

i can only remember him as a somewhat decent guy in beverly hills cop.

rakesh

Felt Troi was undermining his postition when she let it slip to Riker that he wasn't confident. Firstly if youy read someonw without thier position dont go telling everyone how they are feeling. Secondly, some people feel a certain anxious or apprehenisve about a big thing but its a natual reaction, doenst mean its how you feel forever, its just a partiocualr moment in time. Thirdly she's a conseller, how about you stop telling everyone else secrets to everyone else!

rakesh

One final thought on Chain of Command. What kind of incompetent muppet is running Starfleet? The Enterprise is the flagship of the Federation and Picard is her valuable and highly-respected captain. Starfleet suspects the Cardassians of planning to invade Minas Corva, thus starting a war with the Federation, and if that happens, the Enterprise will be the command ship in the sector. So!....In an effort to try and end that war before it starts, they set up an extremely dangerous special ops mission and choose THE FLAGSHIP'S CAPTAIN TO CARRY IT OUT!!!??? Sure. Why not? No one's going to know HIS face. Oh and while we're at it, let's send the medical officer and Chief of Security too. There's only a high chance that none of them will come back from it and the Cardys will have three high-profile hostages to swipe. Standard Starfleet procedures discourage the Captain from going on away missions that even seem a tad iffy, which is why Riker generally does it. This would suggest that the captain of a starship is not considered expendable, yet the Command muppets choose Picard for this mission!!?? Do they seriously not have a Special Ops unit of Rambo's grandkids for stuff like this?? Do they know how attached we are to the characters? Why am I miffed? Where is my bat'leth? I need some heads, I tell you! Waaaah!

Clarence Newman

I believe the writers also used Jellico to make good some cast requests. For example Marina Sirtis always wanted to be in uniform rather than what she called her “cosmic cheerleader outfit”. It was a nice way to flesh out Jellico’s character personnae whilst taking out the laundry

edwub

I'm not sure I appreciate Jellico more, but I always appreciate actors like Ronny Cox, who are so good at portraying characters no one likes. Without the bad guy in these movies and shows, where would the fun and excitement be in rooting for the good guy?

Clarence Newman

As i grow older I appreciate Jellico more.

ExploreWinnipeg

Can you blame them? When you have Patrick Stewart captaining your ship, you want to use him as much as you can.

KTVindicare

It sounds like Cassie is going to Star Trek Las Vegas. I'm going for the first time as well this year — I got my best friend into Star Trek this year after trying for years, and once he finished TNG he says one day, "I want to go to a Star Trek convention and meet these guys before they die." He just finished DS9 and started Enterprise yesterday, just in time as the convention begins next Thursday! Really looking forward to it. The entire senior staff except Picard and Geordi will be there.

p0sthum4n

Eh, JJ's movies are fun, but I wouldn't say they are the best.

Chrissonator

The Cardassians were introduced in season 4 in the episode "The Wounded," but I don't think that episode was picked. In Chain of Command, their appearance was subtly altered and this would be their official final look.

Chrissonator

Which is something I think everyone eventually gets after they've seen the episodes a couple times, but when he's an outsider and we don't know the true stakes of the mission yet (and we're not that familiar with just how bad the Cardassians are) we are slow to trust him. These episodes are brilliant because they are playing with the sense of loyalty we have with our familiar characters.

KTVindicare

And he pulled the whole thing off. He almost single-handedly backed the Cardassians off their war plans, and he got Picard back to boot.

Allan Rumberger

Yeah, Riker was insubordinate and frankly out of line from the jump because he was hurt that he wasn't put in command. Jellicoe was given a crucial, time-sensitive mission that would mean the difference between peace and war with a powerful, brutal enemy, and he pulled it off masterfully. Could he have been kinder and gentler? Sure, I guess, but from the moment he took command the Enterprise became a warship, not a cruise ship. He even told Riker as much. Frankly, Riker's lucky he got out of that one with his rank.

Allan Rumberger

Season 6 is truly peak Trek. Perfectly happy with the episodes that got chosen, I would have loved to see Cassie react to Schisms because its always fun to see her scared but I cant argue against the ones we got, all are great for different reasons and I'm pleasantly surprised that Lessons made it as thats also a personal favorite of mine.

KTVindicare

I tend to agree with Riker that Jellico was not a stellar captain.

Clay F

Jellico gets a bad rap. I've served with easy-going and difficult officers; they both have their advantages and disadvantages. Even though Jellico is direct and to the point, nothing he says is unreasonable. Also, he doesn't have the luxury of time and is probably constrained by what he can or can't do by his superiors. Because Picard was sent on a covert mission and probably violated the treaty with the Cardassians, StarFleet couldn't acknowledge the operation. If anything, I have a problem with Riker going around the entire time in parts 1 & 2 being butt-hurt. Indeed, being relieved of duty is a big deal and should have killed his career. Finally, the Cardassians aren't pleasant, but would rather watch them than the Kardashians.

T J

"Time After Time" is wonderful

Keith Jones

Tangentially related, but I rewatched the first Chris Pine Star Trek movie tonight... I've always liked it personally but on this viewing (first time in probably 10 years), I caught myself saying stuff like "Cassie is going to love this" and earmarking things that she'll appreciate, especially since now she's a fan of the franchise and she herself can pick out Easter eggs. That's going to be a fun reaction.

Caomhan84

I met James Doohan at a convention in San José around 1998, I think. He said that the thing that most impressed him about being on the Next Generation set was the budget. Also, someone asked him to say "there be whales here!" and he knocked it out of the park. I got his autograph and shook his hand. It was a great day, and one which I still think about even now.

Marshmallow Venom

I'm glad someone else has some love for Jellico. I actually think that Starfleet has bifurcated by this point into a battle fleet (Excelsiors, Mirandas, and Constellations) and an exploration fleet (Galaxies, Intrepids, Cheyennes, Ambassadors). Both are able to do the other's job, but some crews roam the galaxy looking for something, they know not what and others fight Cardassians, Tzenkethi, and Talarians. Jellico behaves like a military officer and the crew isn't used to that. Picard himself came from the more militarized fleet and he wasn't exactly warm and fuzzy when he arrived. Jellico wants the rotation adjusted, that shouldn't be that hard. An hour with an excel spreadsheet should be enough to do it. I was curious one time when I was sick and couldn't stop coughing long enough to fall asleep, so I made up a three shift rotation and converted it to four. If you make everyone pull doubles (12 hours) you end up freeing the exact amount Jellico pulls to security. Starfleet officers are absurdly cross-trained so basically any engineering officer can do any job anyway. Granted, specialties in the sciences would be harder to adjust, but they aren't that important for the situation at hand. I hate the hate Data gets for being a yes man, but I see him as just being rational. The orders are lawful and they set goals that are attainable.

Ceruleo

Chris Pine movies are awesome. I don't think she said she is reacting to the Picard series.

Clay F

Awesome episode

Clay F

+1 for David Warner as an utterly fantastic actor. The David Warner/Patrick Stewart scenes are awesome acting

Clay F

I have a feeling they drew inspiration for Chain of Command, Pt 2 from a play called One for the Road by Harold Pinter. The situation and psychological dynamics between the Cardassian torturer (played by David Warner - a ST regular) and Picard is very similar to the main characters in the play. This was David Warner's third time playing someone in Star Trek. The first was the human representative on Nimbus III (the planet of galactic peace) in Star Trek V; the second was in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country as the Klingon Chancellor Gorkon. A brilliant actor who often plays villains. My first introduction to him was in 1979's Time After Time. You may also remember him as Dillinger/Master Control Program in Tron and Lovejoy (the boyguard) in Titanic.

D. T. Nelson

Jellico is *not* a bad officer. He is just a different kind of officer. He has a job to do and he makes sure it gets done. I've served with Officers you like, and Officers you respect. It's a very rare personality that can pull of both and those individuals are superb leaders, however if you have to make a choice, *always* go with the ones you respect. They get the job done. Oh, and David Warner is an utterly fantastic actor. He got the role of the Cardassian interrogator with very short notice, and had to do most of his scenes reading of cue cards. Despite this he is utterly compelling and brings out the best in Patrick Stewart. Their scenes are the best Star Trek has ever been I think. Very sadly we lost Mr Warner relatively recently, but what a talent, and what a body of work to look back on. He made everything he was in worth seeing.

Dryfesands

I always remember him for The Time Bandits and also My Best Friend is a Vampire. Quite an underrated actor tbh.

Dean Holt

Yes, couldn’t agree more, glad to see I’m not the only one preaching a bit of justice for Jellico! Let’s also not forget, he put aside his pride and asked Will to pilot the shuttle because it was the best for the mission. In fact I’d say Riker was a bit of a bellend at times in the episode. For example, in that dialogue in Will’s quarters, both of their critiques were valid IMO, but where was Riker’s concern for Picard when he was being snarky (“then ask me” and “you’re welcome”). Yes Jellico was totally a micromanager, not at all warm and fuzzy and had the charm of a Kolinahr rave, but he always had the mission in mind. And when he demanded Picard’s return… I mean, c’mon, that was pretty kick-ass and all was forgiven in my books! 😄

edwub

"There are four lights!" Now, I've got "The Picard Song" in my head. I remembered the scene, but had totally forgotten that it was in the Ronny Cox (Jellico) episode and that he said it to David Warner.

Stephen Dias

I feel like in the later seasons of TNG, they were just trying to come up with scenarios that would allow Patrick Stewart to show off his acting chops. And hey, it worked!

Doc H

I really love the times when they make the connection between the old crew and the new crew like the end of the pilot episode when DeForest Kelly made a cameo as a 100 year old Dr. McCoy. If I could have voted for Relics twice I would have.

BibbitduBois

I loved your reaction to seeing Scotty, was priceless

JPDotCom23

Wait a minute your going to watch the Captain Picard movies too? I thought you were going straight to the Chris Pine movies. The Chris Pine movies were like the best movies Eva is home, We have Deadpool And Wolverine tomorrow morning She really likes those Cozy Earth sweats you suggested Cassie, she wears them whenever she gets off work Deadpool And Wolverine https://youtu.be/aWFBsEsNEzA?si=GIF-rmj-vHPQI0Cf

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Agreed. The first episode I picked on the poll was Second Chances. 100% a Cassie episode.

Verteron

No

ShazD

You really, really need to watch Ship in a Bottle even if it was 5th.

Daniel Turbyfill

Cassie throwing out some real 'death stare' towards the tv in CoC. If looks could kill, there would be holes burnt through the screen. Jellico gets a lot of hate, but i am going to defend him *ducks from Cassie's death stare, and possibly throwing of a remote or phone* Yes, he is acerbic. However, context is king. He was given a specific mission and roll to fill. He knew he was not going to be there for long, it was never about being a "good captain" he needed to get a specific job done. Our normal perspective of a captain is counter to what his role is, so of course it was going to come off as sandpaper. There was only so much he could tell the crew, and while I think he could have let them in on his over all plan more (this would defeat the dramatic aspect from the writers), for their understanding, remember much like in 'The Prestige" every interaction with the Cardassians was an act. The best way to get the crew to have genuine reactions to his actions and behaviour is to not fill them in, so the Cardassians could see their reactions to he behaviour. He explains this somewhat coming out of the conference room the first time and explaining things to Will and Diana one the bridge. He got lost in the roll a little bit, method captain acting, especially when it came to Will. As we see, he has good, heightened to be sure but overall good interactions with the rest of the crew. I think Jellico, in regular captain mode with a long term crew would be good, i mean he brought his sons pictures along, for a temporary mission, that is not nothing. The situation he was given called for his behaviour. When you are out, at a friends or families, or perhaps at a home improvement store, and you see a light fixture with 4 lights, you can let out a little "there are only 4 lights" and be one of us. This phrase is also used for anything having to do with a quality of 4 as well. Fun wrinkle to the lights question. There are three right answers to it; 4, 5, and 1. It is a perspective thing. 4 individual lights. 1 single light, think of the 4 like pixels, or a large light board the individual light sources merge into one. 5 which is the 4+1. Glad you enjoyed Relics so much. A Dyson sphere is a real world theory used for that episode.

Michael G

"Stop kidnapping him!"

David Patterson

I love Scotty. I like watching him better when he is young in the original series episodes. Chain of Command = excellent. They did look good in the ninja black. I agree w/Riker that Jellico is not a good captain. To your dismay (and impatience), Starfleet's top priority was not rescuing Picard. I find Cardassian episodes generally with excellent acting and good writing. The two previous Cardassian episodes are awesome and would have provided some context: S4 "The Wounded" (first Cardassian episode) and S5 "Ensign Ro". Looking forward to your reactions to the Chris Pine movies. S4 "The Wounded" Spoiler The Federation was previously at war with Cardassia for some years and only recently had established a peace treaty. In S4 "The Wounded", a few Cardassians were invited aboard the Enterprise. The episode prominently features Chief O'Brien who is uneasy w/the Cardassians and has PTSD from years earlier fighting the Cardassians. A Cardassian (Daro) asks O'Brien to join them in Ten Forward. O'Brien declines and responds that it is his business who he spends time with. Yet, later in Ten Forward, O'Brien joins Daro at the bar for a drink. O'Brien apologizes, which Daro accepts. They discuss when O'Brien was helping to defend against a Cardassian massacre of human women and children and in which O'Brien killed a Cardassian. O'Brien said that he had never killed anything before then, not even a mosquito. He tells Daro: "It's not you I hate, Cardassian; I hate what I became because of you".

As for when TNG is done, I hope you consider watching a few more TOS episodes before you go to Chris Pine. As for other series, everyone needs to remember that if Cassie was to watch DS9, Voyager, etc, she'd choose episodes to watch with the polls. Do you really want to have Cassie trying to follow THAT storyline in DS9 with only 8 episodes per season? The Trekkie in me would be satisfied if Cassie stopped at the movies and watching a couple more eps of TOS and TNG every once in a while. If she did decide to move on to later series, she just needs to be ready for a lot more complex stories that stretch over more episodes than can make it in the polls.

Andrew Buel

Relics was def one I hoped you'd get to. Ronnie Cox always plays a spectacular detestable A-Hole in everything he's in.

Bubba Fett

Glad you liked seeing Scotty. As soon as it became clear how much you loved him, I knew that Relics would be a front runner for the season. And now, after missing their initial debut, you now have met the Cardassians (Henceforth know as 'The Slimy Lizard Weasels' XD). You may see them again, but we shall see what happens with the votes. Engage!

Andrew Buel

On Relics, We all had jaw drops when Scotty appeared, and tears when we saw the original bridge, like returning your childhood home after years and the memories flowing over you. I almost cried when you said "Scotty walked so you could run", the perfect comment there. Scotty was my favorite, I was lucky to met James Doohan and have no doubt he would be ticked to death at that. Thanks for a wonderful reaction it was a real treat tonight.

I assume the 4 lights is inspired by Orwells 1984 where Winston Smith is tortured to declare that 2+2=5 . He knows the truth is 4 but must convince himself that the answer is 5, or whatever the regime says it is. The ability to make people accept a lie as truth is the mark of true control over them. This is why Picard is such a great character whose impact goes well beyond mere sci-fi. An inspiration sorely needed in our modern times.

John Drake

The funny thing is after watching this episode two or three times, while Jellico probably could have been a bit less abrasive, he was more or less in the right in trying to make the Enterprise as ready as possible as quickly as possible. He was put in a very rough situation needing to command a new ship and crew while also in a pinch himself.

FleetAdmiralJ

Very happy to see Cassie emotional with appearance of Scotty and the way the story ended! lol I can see the moth flying around in the mirror above! I feel her annoyance with them!

Tech Citizen

I love "Relics," but I have two bones to pick: 1. there was one scene where Geordi is short with Scotty. Yeah, I know what's it's like when you need to get something done and others just want to talk. Scotty is a superior officer, though, and Geordi should give him more respect. 2. You'd think there would be a scene in which someone would mention that Picard has met McCoy and Spock and they are still alive.

Stephen Dias

I get what you mean, think I also prefer some of the lighter fun episodes, especially ones that contain time travel. But I guess different people watch for different reasons, some prefer the more serious stories. I think what I can appreciate and why Chain of Command is so highly rated is how powerful the torture scenes are, it is surprising to see TNG go that far and I do think Patrick Stewarts acting very good in those scenes especially.

Darren Swinbank

That reminds me of the “Frankenstein’s Lab” channel in their early days; and as their audience grew their set up became more and more focused on their own particular style.

Uncle Phoenix

couldn't give a toss they can sit on whatever chair , bed or cardboard box they want to, really doesn't affect the quality of the episode or the reaction. I really wouldn't be snobbish enough to hate someone for what decor or setup they choose to use.

Darren Swinbank

I've heard a lot about Nick Meyer's first film as a director, but never seen it. Obviously his second film wasn't bad, lol!

Chris Clarke

He was also Evil in TIME BANDITS, Jack the Ripper in TIME AFTER TIME (both of which I'm hoping we'll get a reaction to someday) and the photographer in THE OMEN (though I don't hold out much hope for that one)

Stick Figure Studios

I think it's because a lot of people think the series peaked in seasons 4 and 5, but I think people have forgotten that season 7 was the year that TNG received its Emmy nomination. Long overdue, and the wrong season, but recognized nonetheless.

Caomhan84

I can't tell you how many times my nerdy best friend and I say "There are FOUR LIGHTS!" Both amongst ourselves and in mixed company, and no one knows what we mean except for us. 😂 I'm glad you liked these episodes Cassie. But as other people have said, Relics wasn't the episode we gifted you. Relics was a shoe in because of Scotty. :)

Caomhan84

Excited for this. Scotty was trying to teach Jordi about buffer time, (not telling the capt the true time for repair) otherwise known as the Boimler Effect now. When I saw that part with the two of them in engineering. That is what pooped in my head

Vlad D

OK, how many of us, when Scotty first materialised on the transporter pad, were looking straight at Cassie with a silly grin on our face? She never disappoints. I love the fact that she now reacts to seeing OG Trek characters the same way she does when she sees a baby. As for Jellico, he was a hard character to like, but he did do Troi the great service of putting her in formal uniform for the rest of the series. It really does suit her. I love the nod Picard gives her on the bridge when he returns. He's formal with everyone else, but she's the one he trusts with the dark detail of what he's been through. Troi was much maligned for a lot of the series, mainly because her purpose was often ambiguous. By this episode, it was clear that Picard, having been through so much, couldn't do without her.

Clarence Newman

Seconded! “Fistful of Datas” and “Ship in a Bottle” are both fantastic fun. Season 6 is FULL of lighthearted moments, but strangely the majority here picked Picard-centric episodes. Please, please, please watch those two - you will not regret it.

Ike

This was awesome, thanks Cass, I liked the double meaning of the episode title "Relics" referring to Scotty, a relic of the classic Trek era and the Dyson Sphere itself, a relic of a civilisation lost to time, the theorised spheres are indeed artificial but the engineering know how and raw materials needed to build it are mind boggling. In Chain of Command the Cardassians needed to break Picard's will, its suggested that the moment he relents to the lie would mean he has given up fighting them for the sake of his own comfort, in that moment he would be theirs.

D4RK

I like the fact that the setup is comfy like you're be hanging out with a friend. One reason I hate watching other reactors is setups with a gaming chair on desktop. Ugggh.

rakesh

In agreement. if there's one episode I regret you not getting the chance to watch this season it's Second chances. 🧔‍♂️🧔‍♂️

rakesh

Been waiting for your reaction for the Scotty episode since you started TNG and just hoped you didn’t see any spoilers before you watched it. But the very emotional reaction was well worth the very long wait. Really liked the Star Wars reference as well 👏👏. Regards to Chain of Command I’ve always thought it is a very good episode just down to Patrick Stewart & David Warners performance. Also never really got why some people said the quality drops in the last couple of seasons, yes there’s a few very average episodes but most are enjoyable and it’s the same for S7. But wow you’ve definitely a full on Trekkie if you’re off to a convention. We definitely need to see pics of that. Also can’t believe we aren’t to far away from you watching the 1st TNG movie quite good timing as it’s the 30th anniversary of it this year, wow that makes me feel old as I remember seeing it a few times at the cinema when I was about 18.

Dean Holt

Did you recognise David Warner, Cassie? You've seen him in two Star Trek films, Tron and Titanic. 🙂

Chris Clarke

We all knew you would be happy to see Relics Cassie. It was great seeing your reaction

Neil

An amazing performance again from Patrick Stewart. Also RIP David Warner a great character actor, wonderful seeing them act together.

Neil

Believe it or not, we did "gift" you an episode this season, but it wasn't "Relics". Still, we knew you'd love it. I always loved Scotty and I knew it wouldn't hurt your feelings that James Doohan was Canadian and a World War II hero. He stormed the beaches (Juno Beach) of Normandy on D-Day and lost his right middle finger.

T J

Loving all the Star Wars quotes being thrown in by Cassie! "That's no moon..." "It's a trap!" 🤣🤣🤣

Chris Clarke

DEXTER - That's what he is from he played the Tooth Fairy who was in that retirement community.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

“Admiral, THERE BE WHALES HERE!” Do you KNOW how long we’ve been sitting on Scotty and Relics? Do you KNOW how many live streams we’ve had where Jon had to delete Scotty spoilers? Do you KNOW the pain of the pressure built up in the cheeks and lips whenever you ask, “Are there anymore cameos?” We pushed each other into the bushes and said “Don’t Be Suspicious!” 🤫 I’ll watch this one tonight! Can’t wait!!

Ike

And don't forget your ears!😉

Chris Clarke

Carpe diem, Cassie! Go find Mr Shatner. 😊

Chris Clarke

Second Chances! Cassie I hope you sneak this reaction in as a surprise. It's season 6 episode 24. It's as close as Star Trek gets to a rom com episode! You've gotta see it. It's a for sure Cassie episode. Of all the one's you've missed, this is my wish list episode

Katie Jackson

After the two parter with Spock you said something about bringing others back and mentioned Scotty by name. Soooo waiting on your reaction when he's revealed. Worth the wait!

Samuel Champ

So, I was watching YouTube and saw how some reactors are moving away from green screens in favor of linked 4k flat panel screens, and was thinking that Cassie should get her background “Bouje’ed - up” so it looks like she’s in an Enterprise State Room. (Just a thought)

Uncle Phoenix

Thanks all for getting it sorted. 👍

Chris Clarke

I feel for Scotty in this: its the worst feeling in the world to feel like you're of no use to anyone.

Chris Clarke

I have the dreaded night shift at work so I have just enough time to look at the first few minutes of the Relics reaction to see "the big reveal" (heh, heh, heh, I know it will be so good) and then off to work. I'll enjoy watching these tomorrow, and I know I will even enjoy watching the reaction to the highly OVER RATED Chain of Command episodes (at least OVER RATED by this community. We could have had another good, fun episode, people! 😂) I know it will be a good reaction, because it is Cassie!! Well, it's off to work. Did I mention how OVER RATED Chain of Command is? Oh, I did! All's good! 🤣🤣🤣

Mike LL

She beat me to the vacuum reference! Darn!

Chris Clarke

Cassie during the intro to Relics: I'm so happy to be back watching my crew in the Enterprise" Me knowing what is coming up: "yeah... about that"

there_is_no_gary_only_zuul

Things to think about: 1. Brothers could be watched along with the Descent two-parter. 2. It'd be nice to watch some new TOS episodes before starting the Chris Pine movies. 3. Start thinking now about your arguments for skipping the first two seasons of Picard.

Andrew Golledge

It was uploaded in Canada time. Takes a few more minutes to make it here.

Edwin

Only viewable for popcorn in bed star trek tier subscribers. Sorry y'all

rakesh

I’m sure it will get sorted out.

Cole Jennett

"BEN!!!"😆🙂

Chris Clarke

I'm getting that Video is private message too.

Donald Fleming

This season had a few fun episodes. Even if you don't record the reaction I would recommend watching Fist full of Datas as well as ship in a bottle. I think you would appreciate them.

David Kent

Yeah says private for me as well

Neil

I can't access the video: says its private.

Chris Clarke

Absolutely, Relics I knew you would love that one. as well as Chain Of Command so glad you liked them. Going to watch them again with you now.
