[YT Edit] In the Heat of the Night (1967)
Added 2024-07-02 22:48:11 +0000 UTC
Hey guys! Here is the YT edit for "In the Heat of the Night" which will premiere shortly!
I wonder if Cassie is gonna watch a few episodes of the series Heat of the night with Carrol O'connor (Archie Bunker) As Gilespie? Seriously, O'connor nailed that role! His best role other than as Archie and as Helen Hunt's Father in Mad about you.

Oh I totally agree on that. I am totally down to watch a classic film I have never seen from time to time. Just like there are a lot of great films that have come out recently that she and others would love. It just seems like over the last year or so it's been very heavy on the pre 2000s side. Would love to see her do more newer ones. That's all.

You could have told her that your hobby is staring at attractive women on YT and that it sometimes carries over into real life. I'm sure that would have helped ;-)

The main part of her fan base (along with many other reactors) seems to be concentrated between the 80's to the early 2000's, as far as their interest in films is concerned. Anything newer or older has a hard time getting any traction around here. Personally I'm up for any era of films, but I get that people are more interested in seeing reactions to their own particular era of film viewership. I do however wish everyone here were more open-minded to other eras and genre of films and series. Trying new things can be very rewarding.

Its such a good film. So funny but it also does a very good job of portraying how pointless war can be to the people fighting in it. I love it.

Hey Cassie - You mentioned what a good job you thought Sidney Poitier did in this, (and he did).
Another movie of his that you might really like, (and which has a stellar cast), is 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner'.

Oh yeah I totally agree. But she hasn’t watched a non X-men movie that came out post 2010 since march 1st. That’s over 4 months ago. I just wanted to remind her that there are a ton of newer movies that she would love.

Kelly's Heroes has to be one of the best WW2 movies ever made, not to mention one of my favorite Clint Eastwood movies. Plus, Don Rickels is so funny. I was in the Army and every unit had a guy like him in it!

I kind of like the fact she picks older movies now and then. All the other reactors seem to watch the same movies which to me are relatively new, but I am an old fart, LOL. I think a nice balance of old verse new works well. I would suggest having one oldie per month that we all vote on.

Not unique to the US.
There are some really interesting stories about the British productions of the true story movies "Zulu!" (1964) and "Zulu Dawn" (1979) in South Africa.

So close to Kellys heroes! So close! We need Kellys Heroes! But this is an absolute classic film. It was well before my time but it was often repeated here in the UK when i was a kid along with the TV series based on it. It is scary that people used to have these sorts of attitudes to skin colour or even just people who for whatever reason arent like them. Unfortunately many people still do. But I love this film because it doesnt shy away from that which was very brave for the time and as much as attitudes are said to have changed today I dont think anyone would be allowed to make this film now.

The fact that you read my comment in that tone says a lot more about you than me. God forbid anyone lets her know what we want to see. It's impossible to say anything on here without getting harassed by weirdos like you. I commented for Cassie. Not you. Your toxic replies aren't relevant to me at all believe it or not.
Also she does wayyyy more old movies than modern movies. I'm talking about post 2010. She rarely does any of those anymore. Which is fine, and her choice. I was never complaining about it. I was simply letting her know what some of us prefer. Sorry if your feelings got hurt somehow. Actually I'm not sorry. I truly don't care about you at all Paul.

Oh My Gosh Guys. I just realized that there is a dark side to watching reaction videos.
So I was at the organic shop today refilling my water bottles, and I caught myself looking at an attractive lady, and I COULD NOT AVERT MY GAZE (HORROR). My internal monologue was screaming at me to act normal, and I just kept staring (PALM TO FACE SHAME). The whole time I was just casually cataloging her eyebrow activations and her down turning mouth corners. (I literally NOTICED her discomfort and confusion; and that I was the cause.)
OH MY GOSH, Creepiest looking dude ever. What The Actual Heck Guys.
I think I need to start rationing my Youtube screen time. IDK.

Many of the scenes from this movie were filmed in the small town of Sparta, Illinois...about 50 miles south of where I live. You couldn't have filmed this movie in the south back in 1967 or at least it would have been hard to do. I think both Steiger and Poitier were nominated for Best Actor, with Steiger winning, but either could have won. Steiger had a knack for bringing small nuances to very unlikeable characters.

More modern movies please. Not complaining, just want you to know that there’s a big part of your fanbase that isn’t super into old movies.

I don’t know if someone said it over on the full reaction comments, but Sidney Poitier suffered a lot of racist abuse and segregation from local people, when they shot some scenes on locations in the south of the US (I think most of the movie was shot in a less segregated state).
He couldn’t stay in the same hotels or eat in some diners that the white cast members and crew were at. It was basically get in, shoot scenes and then run before the locals got riled up about him being there.
It’s written about in a book called ‘Pictures at a Revolution’ by Mark Harris (it’s been many years since I read it, so I can’t remember all the details)

But above all, Sydney Pottier shines in htis movie, a breath taking talent who lights up the screen every second. Utterly brilliant from start to finish. There is a kind of sequel, "They call me Mr Tibbs"

Sadly those attitudes are far from being a thing of the past. Brilliant writing, fantastic performances. Fun fact for Star Trek THG fans, Patrick Stewart hand an early screen role along side the amazing Rod Steiger. The veteran movie star treated the young Stewart as a fellow actor with respect and went out of his way to help his performance on set. Years later, Patrick ran into Rod in a restaurant and Steiger remembered their first work together, Such a gem of an actor and human being.

Hi Cassie, Yes Sidney Poitier was great. If you liked him, you should check out - Guess Who's Coming to Dinner ( with Spencer Tracy's last movie) / The Defiant Ones (with Tony Curtis) / Lilies of the Field / and To Sir with Love. Where he plays a teacher in England. He is fantastic in all of these movies. Happy Canada Day, and Happy 4th of July for us " Mericans" LOL

Over the top, but there are times I wish there was someone to punish the real people who destroy people's lives like in the mivie.

Watching the Beekeeper on Prime it's decent. Just killing time till Caitlin Clark vs Kate Martin Fever vs Aces. Star Trek the last Kelvin films were better than The Beekeeper. I can tell you that much.
