Paris Poll Oui Oui

Paris Poll, or "Pair-ee Sondage" if you will!

With the Olympics being in Paris this year, I thought it would only be fitting for a romantic Paris poll!

This one has a lot of options but you can vote for multiple movies! These are meant to be more Paris focused and not just french per se, vous savez ce que je veux dire?

I like that a lot of these have "romance" as part of their genre ;)

Vote Away !

Comments

Try to get back to "Charade". A Hitchcock film not by Hitchcock, Great cast and music.

Barry Diamond

I think Cassie will enjoy the Pink Panther movies the old ones and the newer ones with Leslie Neilson as Cleuseu.

Kyle Prince

Cassie, I really am glad that you chose "Paris, I Love You" to be in this poll. I knew that it had no chance of winning, but I assure you that it would be great for both you and Carly to see this neat film, it is a lot of fun. Very excited to see your reaction to "The Pink Panther".

Mark Vaderr

That’s why I voted for it - it’s like tripling down on French cinema history, animatronics (?), and storyline. Plus, Ben Kingsley and Sacha Baron Cohen!

Marja

Sweden has a ridiculous amount of beautiful and interesting landscapes. I’m surprised more filming doesn’t take place there.

Marja

Oh yeah, there is one for sure, even in Cassie´s movie collection (even if nothing is filmed in Åmål) :) The girl trilogy is great and Cassie will perhaps do it :D

Björn Karlsson

I betcha there is one, somewhere? But I’d be advocating for the Swedish “Dragon Tattoo” series.

Marja

I want a Åmål-focused romantic movie on this channel 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Björn Karlsson

Hugo would've been pretty perfect. Agreed. Love that movie...maybe in my top 25 of all time. And it would give a good crash course on the very early days of cinema...with a French vibe. But English actors, of course. lol

Chris Thom

Paris-focused? Romantic? I’m surprised by the choices and the top 2 winners but The Pink Panther is my missing link in the Clouseau-iverse, so that’s a nice gap to fill. I hope the plan is a Gold, Silver, Bronze trio of viewings so at least one romantic, Paris-focused movie gets watched! Charade is all of that and a bag of chips.

Marja

I think she already did a reaction.

Marja

These historic French film shorts would be a PERFECT complement to the French/romantic Paris film poll winners. To appreciate where we are now is to understand where we began. That’s the inspiration behind my vote for Hugo. Good ideas from Chris and Clarence!

Marja

you should definitely watch French Kiss as your Cassie Pick of the Month - great rom com

Tanglefoot

The first one's a bit dated, though it still has plenty of charm. She won't hate it, that's for sure. If she makes it to the second one (A Shot In The Dark), she'll start to have some real fun. That's when Peter Sellers really got in to the Clouseau character.

Clarence Newman

She's seen that already.

Chris Thom

Watched a medley of Georges Milies silent movies on TMC the other night. That was kind of cool. The picture quality was actually pretty decent.

Chris Thom

I also played Lara's Theme, and Love Story.

René Ferland

Here's a bit of a left-handed knuckleball for you.... I mention this because Cassie has not gone anywhere near this "genre" yet and probably should, even though she will kick and scream when I suggest it. At the very least, she should dip her toe in the pool, and if she ever does, I think it will make her the most diverse reactor in the whole world. My suggestion, relevant to the Paris debate, is "Voyage dans la Lune", a 1902 silent movie that is renowned as not only the first ever sci-fi, but possibly the first great movie. I can hear Cassie yelling "Stoppit!" all the way over here in England, but it's only 15 minutes long and I think she'd be provisionally delighted. Overall, she's going to be watching movies with us for at least 30 years, so she can't avoid silents forever. Again, I'm not talking about intensive deep-diving. Just up to her knees once in a while.

Clarence Newman

Forget Paris is right up your alley.

Harrison Bored

The original Pink Panther film was an American-made movie, but Inspector Jacques Clouseau was an insufferable Frenchman cliche and I couldn’t stand his character, which ruined the movie for me. PERHAPS Cassie would enjoy the movie, but I would skip that reaction video because I’m NOT watching The Pink Panther again.

Rod Reavern

Your missing 'Midnight in Paris'...👍

Jay505

Such a bittersweet but beautiful piece. The two leads are mesmerizing! Lara’s Theme and Somewhere In Time are some of my fav pieces to play on the piano.

Rose

Audrey Tautou is very popular in these comments. :-)

René Ferland

Hopefully, there will be a Audrey Hepburn poll at some point.

René Ferland

Heh? Pink Panther is a Blake Edwards movie, you can not be more American than that. :-)

René Ferland

I did not recognize the movies at first because of the English titles. :-)

René Ferland

And Peter O'Toole is in How to Steal a Million? There is a scene in that movie where Audrey is about to cry... I would have react exactly like Peter O'Toole. :-)

René Ferland

Ah... Les parapluies de Cherbourg, I remember playing the main theme on piano when I was a boy.

René Ferland

The Accidental Tourist? I loved that movie!

René Ferland

For an even more likable Kline speaking French, how about Queen to Play (2009)? :-)

René Ferland

Pink Panther? Not sure how Cassie will take this movie.

Rick Williams

If they are close, hopefully she'll watch both :)

JAKH

Charade is an outstanding movie with a surprising twist at the end.

Duane A Lavely

And if Cassie wasn't a big enough fan of Kevin Kline before, I'm guessing this pic will give him a pretty big boost in her esteem.

C. Shannon Morgan

I don’t know if this is considered a French movie, but Gigi is good. If you ever get to Italian movies, Cinema Paradiso, and a little romance are really good movies. Little romance isn’t very well-known, but it is a cute movie.

Mary Alice

Ou est la bibliotheque?

Stephen Malloy

Where's Midnight in Paris? Maybe Cassie's already seen it. It's a romance so maybe. It's lovely though.

Jennifer Medicus

CHARADE! Audrey Hepburn! Cary Grant! AUDREY HEPBURN. enough said.

solid_ellipsis

Alas, Charade is in 3rd place! Easily the best Hitchcock style film not made by Hitchcock, it's one part thriller, one part mystery, with dashes of comedy and romance. I also think Cassie would like a number of the segments of Paris, Je T'Aime/ Paris, I Love You.

Andarian

No "La Femme Nikita"??

Scott Macaulay

Genuinely surprised Cassie hasn't seen French Kiss; that movie is 100% in her wheelhouse pre-PIB.

Christopher B.

So many great films. I know it won't win but I voted for Ninotchka, it's the films that made me fall in love with Greta Garbo. Just like Roman Holiday made me fall in love with Audrey Hepburn.

Robin Roberts

Hugo is pretty amazing. Lots of awards and nominations. Fairly unusual kind of movie for Scorsese, but one of his best.

Chris Thom

Hugo is pretty extraordinary. Well worth seeing. Personally haven't seen many of the others.

Chris Thom

A Very Long Engagement would be my choice

Odd Thomas

Voted Pink Panther and Ronin. Too many times has that come close only to fall at the last hurdle.

Biggman83

any Pink Panther with Peter Sellers in it is worth watching

Bill Maurer

Oh ok. Kind of assumed you probably had seen that. I always forget it has a sad ending. Most of the times I've seen it I turn it off right after the end of 'Come What May'.

Chris Thom

i don't think i've seen a single one of these movies lol... except the Pink Panther

Ben Schwartz

Ronin and The Pink Panther. Sigh. So help me, I won't rest until CHARADE gets its due.

Walter

Please not Pink Panther. I can't stand that movie. Liking The Pink Panther is like the French liking Jerry Lewis. I don't get it. The French are weird. "Ronin" is a great heist movie and action/spy thriller. I hope Cassie watches it even if it comes in 2nd place.

Rod Reavern

Yes maybe, I really hope so. It's one of the few RomComs I really like. Most of the new ones in the last years were really awful.

Tina P

Shawn Kildal - thanks.

Daniel Allen

Kaiielle - thanks for the heads-up.

Daniel Allen

Maybe Cassie will pick French Kiss as a bonus. It will never win in a poll, but it's so right for her. I love seeing her get to watch a movie that makes her really happy.

Kristin D

No worries, Cassie's always gonna pop in the random romcom to get her fix, I skip those mostly. She stills needs to do Predator 2 btw. 😆

Joe

I was literally going to say the same thing. It wouldn't win, but still belongs in the list.

Richard Maurer

To be fair, it's probably the only movie in this poll that many here have actually seen.

Richard Maurer

Close vote, good to see The Pink Panther doing well. Cassie will love it and any chance to watch the Comedy genius Peter Sellers shouldn't be missed!

Neil

What? “American Werewolf in Paris” isn’t in the list? It’s right in the name.

Roger Banks

If Cassie answered this post by saying "I think I'll look up these films to see what they're all about" I would answer "NO!!!!!!!!!, ESPECIALLY NOT NEKROMANTIK!!! DO NOT look up Nekromantik!!!!!!

Richard Maurer

Exactly. I think that they tend to give a variety of films in these polls that still fit within the main theme, and then let the patrons decide. Cassie may have wanted, or even intended for, a romance movie to win, but ultimately it's up to the patrons to decide from the movies that are in the poll.

Richard Maurer

Hugo is so underrated. I did vote for both Charade and How to Steal a Million because I love any heist movie. My romantic french suggestion would be Breathless (1960), and some romcoms, The Valet (2006), Heartbreakers (2010) and Mood Indigo (2013).

Jacob King

I hear you. The only reason I brought it up was because Cassie called it a romantic Paris poll in her post. So I figured that was her intent. But if it was her intent, then the question is, why were Ronin and The Pink Panther included with the other movies.

Dan M

It counts. I didn't even remember that Ronin was set in Paris till it showed up in this poll.

Richard Maurer

@WastedPo - Guilty as charged.

Richard Maurer

Just like the Olympics poll in that it was never stated that it had to be sports movies, this poll was never limited to romance. I don't get why people keep trying to limit these polls to their perception of what they should be about, especially after the fact. If you thought this poll should be only for romance movies the time to say that was before they put the poll together. It's clearly too late now (but I doubt it would have changed what they put in the poll anyway)

Richard Maurer

I actually try to gear my recommendations' toward the more "popular" side. If I had my way Cassie would be watching a steady stream of weird, low-budget, underground exploitation films, Japanese horror and action films, and the films of Robert Fuest (mainly The Final Programme and the two Dr. Phibes films). So yeah, cool (imo), but not very profitable.

Richard Maurer

Had to vote for ronin if only for a reason to rewatch that great John frankenheimer chase scene.

Canadianant

I suggest that one in the last post about this. Great movie it’s also been a while since I’ve watched it. I also tied my luck with Leon 😂 but I know most of it was filmed in New York I think. Another brilliant Besson film, also think Jean Reno is really underrated in Hollywood.

Dean Holt

Yes, French Kiss is miles back so it has no chance, but Cassie would absolutely love that movie. Right up her alley.

Cliff Endicott

Easy vote for me I’ve picked Ronin. Yes it’s definitely not a romantic movie but it’s on the poll. Kinda Just like the Olympics poll, the top two aren’t really about the Olympics but they are great movies so they get the votes just like this one.

Dean Holt

Kinda like the Olympics poll 😂, but if the movies are put on there people will vote for them.

Dean Holt

If The Pink Panther wins, I hope Cassie decides to watch the entire series. Personally, The Pink Panther Strikes Again is my favorite.

Donald Fleming

I Always will go classic and the two Audrey Hepburn(Charade/How to Seal a Million) are perfect romance/thriller/caper-heist themed films !! And are both great Cassie/Carly nights at the movies !!

Keith Brown

Oh man AND Forget Paris!

Ricardo Rodriguez

No way it's winning, but Cassie, along with whatever wins, watch French Kiss for yourself. Kevin Kline and Meg Ryan in a sweet little movie directed by Lawrence Kasdan, who made Silverado.

Ricardo Rodriguez

Not necessarily. I'm an 80s action movie fan and I love seeing Cassie react to Predator, Rocky, First Blood etc. But I also love seeing her achieve that state of unrestrained delight that rom-coms and chick-flicks clearly give her. My failing here (and I'm sure I'm not alone) is that I've never heard of most of these films. I'm going to bow to Tina's superior knowledge and vote for French Kiss too.

Clarence Newman

I think her patron demographic tends to skew towards those who actively dislike the type of light/romantic movies she enjoys.

WastedPo

completely agree

Walter

How about La Haine, although it's about as unromantic as you can possibly get. If yiou do want a romantic suggestion, you can't go wrong with Les Amants Du Pont Neuf.

Ian Hamilton

How is noone voting for French Kiss? It's the best.

Tina P

I've been to Cimetière du Père-Lachaise

Clay F

Oooh, I'll need to look up the Amelie reaction!

Kevin C

i have seen that one, loved it but broke my heart!

Cassie

i’ve actually seen both of those actually, amelie on the channel, the before series before the channel, loved them

Cassie

very good movie. Harrison Ford and the young French Actress, Emmanuelle Seigner, are great in it

Bill Maurer

Finally starting the original Pink Panther series maybe.

Hiraoka Toru

Okay…First of all…. Amelié should be not only on this list but winning it. I know it’s not English, but the subtitles are worth it, and aren’t y’all Canadian anyways? Secondly… The correct answer is BEFORE SUNSET. But it’s okay to not have on this poll, because you first much watch Before Sunrise, which isn’t a Paris film, so that’s okay. However, you should fix this.

Kevin C

Personally I like How to Steal Million just as much as Charade. Any body tell Cassie Walter Matthau is in Charade?

John

Really good selection on this poll, I can't not vote for the ones with Audrey Hepburn and romance

John

Frantic is an excellent Harrison ford movie but has no chance of winning. Ronin is up there pretty good movie as well. But I'm gonna go for the sillyness of the pink panther.

rakesh

Cherbourg? That's the one starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, right? :-P

Happy Hanukkah

Does anyone else find it weird that the two movies in the lead for a romantic Paris poll have nothing to do with romance?!

Dan M

Unfortunately she’s seen it already.

Dan M

Cassie has already seen Midnight In Paris

Dave

Cassie has already seen Midnight In Paris, pre-PIB

Dave

None of these movies are for me unfortunately. Would have thought Midnight in Paris (2011) would have made the poll. That’s right up Cassie’s street!

Luke Godfrey

Midnight in Paris with Owen Wilson is missing on this list for me.

Allboroking

I’m with you Above Average Dave! For infinity…and beyond!

Dan M

yep, it's in Paris...'Gay Pareeeee'.

Matt Rose

Yes, yes, and YES!

Dan M

LA FEMME NIKITA!

Matt Rose

I said it earlier. Its basically Mission Impossible without Tom Cruise. I love Robert Deniro, but I’d much rather her see other Deniro movies, like Awakenings.

Dan M

A SHOT IN THE DARK is the best in the franchise by a wide margin.

Matt Rose

Absolutely 1,000,000%

Dan M

I'm just teasing. I love this Channel; and besides if it wasn’t for my sister I would never have seen classic movies like “Grease” and “Teen Witch”. I also wouldn’t know interesting little factoids like that the main character from “Teen Witch” is Blake Lively’s half sister.

Uncle Phoenix

Totally agree. And pair that up with Charade for a double bonus. Classic romance and 90’s romance.

Dan M

I think there are more kernels with similar tastes as you than you realize, who would definitely be into hashing it out over a…Classic Horror poll? 😉

Dan M

I was hoping to see in the poll, the 1957 classic “LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON” featuring Audrey Hepburn, Gary Cooper, and Maurice Chevalier. It was set in Paris. Was also expecting to see Clint Eastwood’s 2018 film “The 15:17 to Paris”.

Uncle Phoenix

Bugs Bunny is hilarious in anything he’s in 😁

Dan M

Cassie - checkout the French romance/musical “The Umbrellas of Cherbourg” (1964). I remembered someone recommending it when I first joined. Loved it! Catherine Deneuve is a beaut! The movie itself is a visual stunner. Also “Gigi” (1958) - Leslie Caron is so charming in this film!

Rose

I’m right there with you. Ronin is just Mission Impossible without Tom Cruise. Its a good movie, but I agree with you that French Kiss and Forget Paris are definitely more of what Cassie truly enjoys.

Dan M

OMG. I blame myself. The Accidental Tourist wasn't brought up I don't think. I would have easily voted for that over any of the other movies listed. Respectfully of course. I must be slipping.

Shawn Kildal

I voted for the Pink Panther, but only first few parts of the movie is in Paris. The rest is in The Italian Alps and Rome. :)

Bill Maurer

You would think that having the option of choosing more than one movie would make this easier. So why am I having such a tough time here? Because there are a lot of good movies here. So, after careful thought, I went with a trifecta. Romance and suspense (Charade), romance and comedy (French Kiss), and romance and animals (The Aristocats). I truly think you will enjoy these three the most. Charade is a classic that everyone should see. And you can’t go wrong pairing up Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn (such a cutie!). French Kiss is so right up your alley, with Meg Ryan and a once again so likable Kevin Klein (definitely not like Otto). And why not extend June Toons into July? I mentioned last month that this was one of my favorite Disney movies as a kid, and I still enjoy it as an adult.

Dan M

She did

Bill Maurer

@Stranger2Reality What about Clint Eastwood’s “15:17 to Paris”(2018).

Uncle Phoenix

If you want romance and Paris, you have to see French Kiss and Forget Paris. The Aristocats also got my vote but only because it is a personal childhood favorite. Not one of Disney's best, but I enjoyed it as a kid (Though I found it odd hearing the voice of two Disney bears—Ballo from Jungle Book and Little John from Robin Hood—coming out of the mouth of a cat.) If it's action you want, Frantic has more "romance" it it than Ronin (plus a youngish Harrison Ford)

D. T. Nelson

Paris Olympics might be a good opportunity to watch Moulin Rouge. I think you and Carly would really enjoy that one.

Chris Thom

Not a single French film on this poll though. So I'll just recommend Subway by Luc Besson.

Wesley

Absolutely! Audrey Hepburn was paris's biggest fan! An Audrey Hepburn movie should win!

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Compared to so many others here it's just so...forgettable.

Allison

I didn't muster the motivation to see it, but Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris (2022) seems to be well regarded. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/mrs_harris_goes_to_paris

Happy Hanukkah

I liked all those but Lili was my favorite.

Carolee Barry

I totally agree. My favorite Audrey Hepburn movies: Roman Holiday (1953), The Nun's Story (1959), Charade (1963), How to Steal a Million (1966), and Wait Until Dark (1967). I think Cassie would like all of them.

René Ferland

I absolutely loved her reaction to 1995 Sabrina. I would recomend anyone who has not seen it to go and see it.

Tom Furze

Glad to see it's resurrected.

Happy Hanukkah

Don't know if you've heard of the Grimm Collective (pretty sure it's called) channel, but I think they did a video on it. Really surreal place.

Chris Thom

French Kiss and Forget Paris are so right up Cassie's alley, so it's a shame they're not doing better. Seems like Ronin is taking it, so now I'm picturing Cassie's reaction to the surgery scene. Fun times. 😁

Mike Amandes

Thou shalt *always* kill! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWrMGXwhFLk

Happy Hanukkah

I've heard Breathless is good. I think Kristen Steward played that actress recently in a movie.

Chris Thom

You know in Paris there is a Cemetery there called Père Lachaise as soon as walk into the cemetery there is graffit along the ground on other graves pointing you to Jim Morrison's grave his bust has been removed. His grave is now gated off They cleaned it up a lot since the movie in 91 but there are tons of flowers everywhere on his grave

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Paris? I *love* Paris! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ge0NKwcF_Js

Happy Hanukkah

"Already seen" list - https://letterboxd.com/popcorn_in_bed/films/

Mike Lemon

Hi Jordan. Yes, Cassie has seen both Midnight in Paris and the newer Sabrina (1995). For Sabrina (1995) there is a reaction available for watch-a-long on Popcorn In Bed.

Steve Holton

Yeah, but I'm not going to help Ronin at this point.

Richard Maurer

I didn’t see Midnight in Paris on the list. Is that because the girls have already seen it? It’s an awesome movie with Owen Wilson. Also, the new Sabrina (1995) with Harrison Ford, Greg Kinnear, etc, has a few parts set in Paris, and Paris is discussed alot. Can’t remember if you saw that as well.

Bagofsoup

Hopefully if Cassie & Carly watch "Pink Panther" (1963) then they will also watch the sequel "A Shot In The Dark" (1964)

JAKH

You would love Forget Paris. Romcom starring Billy Crystal. Come on.

Steve Sanders

I want to see both Cassie and Carly react to "Ronin"

JAKH

We're having popcorn in bed? Go get the butter!

Happy Hanukkah

you can vote for more than 1

JAKH

Do you have any good post 2010 Paris films you could suggest?

Stranger2Reality

Please pitch the gems! I’m sure many would enjoy knowing about more great films. One Paris/Monaco gem that released exactly in 2010 is “Heartbreaker” – L’Arnacoeur. A great French Rom-Com about a team hired to break up relationships where the woman is not knowingly unhappy. Super funny with a Dirty Dancing connection that is hilarious and fun.

Steve Holton

Correct answer!!!!!

Richard Maurer

Last Tango in Paris 😂

Stranger2Reality

Films our fellow Patrons will string us up for seriously suggesting. :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Ronin (1998) got my vote. I also suggest that movie to Addie Counts. #Ronin1998ForAddieCounts

Alex Tan

One could elaborate, as I occasionally struggle to do, but that's the most successfully succinct expression of my opinion.

Happy Hanukkah

"Name three films Cassie will never watch on this channel......."

Richard Maurer

These films are sooo different. The ones I've seen, anyway. Hugo is more about the love of cinema, and the joy of having something to be passionate about, more than romance itself. But it's a modern classic by Scorsese. Paris, I Love You has a section by Wes Craven, weirdly. Charade sounds like something I should see. That name sounds really familiar.

Chris Thom

i often wish people's tastes here were more in line with mine, but then reality sets in and I realize Cassie's channel, while being very cool, would also be very unprofitable.

Richard Maurer

It just reminds me of arguing with my sister at Blockbuster on Fridays, as a kid. "Don't be like you. BE LIKE ME."

Uncle Phoenix

Then she can go to Germany for Nekromantik.

Richard Maurer

Midnight in Paris is shot at night. Beautiful atmosphere. What about ratatouille?

JULIE

French Rarebit. Bugs Bunny was hilarious.

Shawn Kildal

shaneth138

I am disabled and can only afford to be at the lowest level. I only do that because I love how sweet and almost innocent Cassie seems when it comes to many of the movies she watches. And the smiles and tears that come so easily. I have collected tons of old movies over my lifetime. I had tons of vhs and beta tapes, then stacks of dvds and blurays. Now I have HDs where I have stored so many of the films I love. I grew up in the 60's and 70's and saw so many of the movies from the 30's to the 50's on late night TV. I learned about heroes from Zorro and The Lone Ranger and Old Westerns with Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne. I grew to love logic from watching Sherlick Holmes. We need these movies forever. Kids need great parents and great influences. Everyone that has a group of movies that touch their soul knows what I'm talking about.

William Brownlee

We're just not all from the same cob

Richard Maurer

While I'm all for older films you have to remember they almost always do poorly on YT, so don't expect too many of them.

Richard Maurer

EuroTrip is surprisingly good.

Richard Maurer

Was going to vote Ronin, then I saw Pink Panther on the list.

Richard Maurer

I didn’t like red as much. I just love the melancholia, pure cinema with as little dialogue as possible.. but definitely think she should see all three.

AC5555

I’m

AC5555

Seriously, 100% I love that there are so many Kernels just like me; but why can’t you all like EXACTLY what I like. (JK-NBS)

Uncle Phoenix

Cassie has seen the "Before" trilogy.

Shawn Kildal

Ronin is amazing, I'm glad it's winning this poll becaue I'd love to see Cassie's reaction to it.

Matthew Folz

"Forget Paris" was so tender. Billy Crystal is such an under rated actor.

Uncle Phoenix

The setup and the punchline always kill, but the middle part can make some blue 😊

Steve Holton

All you guys are singing my tune and beating my drum!!

Mike LL

+1000 for VICTOR/VICTORIA. Did it take place in Paris? Don't remember, don't care, fantastic Blake Edwards (THE PINK PANTHER) musical comedy with James Garner, Julie Andrews, Robert Preston, Lesley Ann Warren, and AND Alex Karras, ALL of whom are fantastically entertaining!

Mike LL

That was my attempt at a joke.

Happy Hanukkah

Welp, I guess I'm left campaigning for the pre-1960s films. XD Here's my picks: An American in Paris (Gene Kelly in one of his best), The Aristocats (Despite a couple moments more eyebrow raising now than when it came out, just a cute, fun Disney movie. Nothing serious or groundbreaking but enough there to enjoy), The Pink Panther (Not all that French but funny), Ninotchka and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (Haven't watched them all the way through but feature some classic moments). Hope you watch a couple of the top vote getters. Just because a movie was made before 1960 doesn't mean it isn't a good film.

Andrew Buel

French Kiss would be a perfect pick for Cassie. It's a perfect rom-com for her.

Kristin D

Obligatory: The famous short film (9- minutes) C'était un rendez-vous (1976) by Claude Lelouch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EL6fbi0ysQ0

Happy Hanukkah

My greatest wish from this poll would be Ninotchka, a fantastic 1939 comedy with Greta Garbo (!) and Melvyn Douglas. Greta Garbo is almost a mythic figure in the 1930's-40's film world. Plus the film was directed by Ernst Lubitsh, and co-written by Billy Wilder. That is quite some classic film pedigree! Great classic film. My second wish would be The Pink Panther, the great Sellers/Edwards start off of their great comedy franchise. My third vote went to How to Steal a Million. Peter O'Toole and Audrey Hepburn, what is not to love? but I have probably not seen the film in 45+ years. Classic film fans are going for Charade with Grant/Hepburn. If Cary Grant fans must have this film, let's see it and get it out of the way of the much better Cary Grant films there are to see. Hugo winning would be very acceptable. Incredible performance by Sacha Baron Cohen. I saw the film when it came out in 3D and it was magical. Ronin? Saw it finally, but not really a fan of it. It will probably win, this channel loves action films.

Mike LL

I'm glad you included Funny Face on this list.

Raphael Bivas

She tends to fall in love with leading men, think she'll go for suave?

Troy Silvester

It is "Aristocats" that is on this poll. Is that the movie you are thinking of?

Troy Silvester

Cassie has seen The Before Trilogy. They are logged on her Letterboxd profile.

kaiielle

I voted for Charade too, and I agree: Cassie would love it.

René Ferland

I don't know what any of these are

Ryan Geiger

however this turns out, cassie should 1000% see french kiss (1995)

diego kontarovsky

I cannot *believe* this poll does not include the famous Wim Wenders movie!

Happy Hanukkah

She already reacted to it. :-)

René Ferland

Ronin? Good grief.

Walter

Even if it doesn't win, oh please please please watch Charade. It's my favorite Cary Grant movie. He definitely got better with age :-)

psu01414

I second the idea also.

René Ferland

I prefer Three Colors Red. :-) But I totally agree with 400 Blows. Or how about The Red Circle (1970) of Jean-Pierre Melville, a good police movie.

René Ferland

Charade... Charade...Charade!!!

Tyler Foster

The Aristocats is from 1970 not 1960.

MrDannySteele

Pink Panther with Peter Sellers!!!!

Bill Maurer

LOL! Ronin has one of the base chase scenes in filmdom, but I haven't seen The Aristocats in ages!

Phil Stubblefield

I second. Delightful rom-com! ❤

Phil Stubblefield

And she's had enough Hitchcock to see the best non-Hitchcock Hitchcock film. (Though I'm still waiting for TO CATCH A THIEF)

Steve Colletti

Yes, she made Lili (1953), Gaby (1956) and Gigi (1958). :-) Lili has the highest IMDb score.

René Ferland

Pro Tip on CHARADE: If it has Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant it should be automatic. For the Channel! For the World! For the Universe AND Multiverse! Who's with me!?!

Above Average Dave

Frantic is an underrated movie. Its basically a remake of the man who knew to much with Jimmy Stewart

James

She already reacted to that one, I believe.

Above Average Dave

The Aristocrats! !!! I'll admit I'm somewhat surprised at finding it here. ... ... What's that? Ah. Never mind.

Happy Hanukkah

Like someone else who commented here, I voted for Charade because I think you will dig the cast and the romantic energy. I just also wanted to mention that, even though a film called Before Sunrise technically takes place in Vienna, I want to recommend that you check it out at some point - romantic stuff that I think you really might enjoy. FYI, the equally good sequel, Before Sunset, actually does take place in Paris. :)

Cassie's has told me she has plans to react to older films on a more regular basis, something she once refered to as "Throwback Thursday". We just have to keep reminding her so this actually happens. Cheers!

Joe

McElhone? I was rooting for the De Niro and Reno characters to get together! :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Wow what a poll, lots of great movies… also a very diverse group. As I think someone else has pointed out, not much in the way of French movies, especially all those massively influential New Wave movies from the 60s like Breathless or Vivre sa Vie. Or the (also influential, think Mr. Bean) great Jacques Tati in Mon Oncle… you don’t even need to speak French for his movies lol. France is the second biggest exporter of movies in the world and by far the biggest over here in Europe. They really do make some excellent stuff.

Ria Grix

Its far off the pace, but it's the only Academy Award winner. American In Paris won best film for 1952. Please make an exception, Cassie. An American in Paris is a great musical. Great Gershwin music, he's the Mozart of the Jazz era. Too bad he died so young, in his late 30s, from a brain tumor. Sometimes when a movie doesn't make the cut, Cassie has a Cassie of the month pick...I hope she goes with "An American in Paris" one of the last remaining months of 2024.

John Liebling

In which case I would demand EuroTrip (2004)! :-)

Happy Hanukkah

I think her and Carly would love it! It's such a classic fun chick flick. And Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell are so beautiful 🤩

Allison

I’d go further. I’d argue for one foreign poll every month or even better every two weeks. Same with old film (1930s to 1960s). One every month or every two weeks. These days, 70 percent of what I watch is either a foreign film, an art house film or a classic Hollywood

AC5555

Hey, why not head straight to Irreversible? :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Duh-dun. Duh-dun. Duh-dun duh-dun duh-dun duh-dun duh-daaaaaaaaa, Da-da dun da duuuuun.

Larry Darrell

Hell yeah! Ronin should be slaughtering these movies

Michael Lynch

I’ll advocate for the rest +2 then 😉

AC5555

A big +1 for Midnight in Paris -- but Cassie has seen it.

Clay F

I second this! I would love like, one classic movie per month or something. I love when people see the classics for the first time!

Allison

Both Ronin and The Aristocats have great chase scenes. Though less nitrous used in Aristocats.

Steve Holton

My sister and I grew up quoting “FRENCH KISS”.

Uncle Phoenix

She has apparently already seen Midnight in Paris. Ronin is a good Deniro movie, though.

Robert Baldino

Voted Charade because I know Cassie will love Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn. And Ronin because that is an awesome action movie with De Niro!

inpham0us

You forgot Amélie

M. Callari

I'm still waiting for her to go through a screwball comedy phase. MY MAN GODDFREY, THE AWFUL TRUTH, HIS GIRL FRIDAY, THE THIN MAN, etc. She also needs a good run of film noir ala THE THIN MAN and THE MALTESE FALCON.

Matt Rose

I love Gentlemen Prefer Blondes! 🥰

Erin

Older movies seem to be at such a disadvantage. This is why at least every 3 months there should be a poll only for movies before 1970. Maybe even 1960. These are where so many of the modern tropes come from. The writing in most is much better than in modern movies. Funny Face is a great musical. I'm not sure, but shouldn't the music be out of copyright by now?

William Brownlee

RONIN and CHARADE all the way. I'd throw a vote to THE PINK PANTHER for its status but honestly, the sequel A SHOT IN THE DARK is 10x the film. Consider doing VICTOR/VICTORIA sometime too. Really fun Blake Edwards movie. RIFIFI is another great one if you're looking for a heist movie.

Matt Rose

American in Paris is a true classic MGM musical with some outstanding performances including a ballet to Gershwin.

Peter Dillard

Killing Zoe is a French bank Robbery movie gone horribly wrong

nick bell

Cassie, please split into two polls, one for the older films and one for modern films.

Joe

You mean to tell me that you didn't find the onscreen chemistry between Robert De Niro and Natascha McElhone electric in Ronin? 😂

Stranger2Reality

No love for The Dreamers (2003)? J/K, there's no way she could show that on YouTube 😂

Stranger2Reality

From Paris With Love!

Chief

Ronin is amazing. A nice throwback

Night King01

Not much of it takes place in Paris though...

Stranger2Reality

Same….

AC5555

You forgot An American in Paris, Gay Purree, lol.

3dbadboy1

Ronin is not the romantic Paris based movie you are looking for. Midnight in Paris would fit that bill exactly.

Pickupthepieces76

I know they aren't going to win but please consider Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and Funny Face! Two of my favorite classic Hollywood musicals. Worth it for the fashion alone.

Allison

Homework to do 😉

AC5555

Missing French films though

AC5555

Cassie has seen it already, outside the channel.

Dave

For what it's worth, she would really love How to Steal a Million!

Ben Livingstone

Too much of an opportunity not to recommend actual FRENCH films set in Paris made by FRENCH filmmakers, for your channel viewing experience ☺️. I think these need to be seen and included on a poll either today or some other time. Three Colors Blue Antoine Doinel series: 400 Blows, Stolen Kisses and Bed and Board , Love on the Run. Great trilogy and the first one 400 Blows is ESSENTIAL filmmaking that needs to be seen by every young filmmaker or film lover. One of the most important films in film history Boyfriends and Girlfriends (1987) by Eric Rohmer The Aviator’s wife by Eric Rohmer. Anything by Rohmer is iconic, and taps into human emotions and love and heartaches. Cleo from 5 to 7 by Agnes Varda. varda is just iconic Breathless. Also a few others: Frantic with Harrison ford Midnight in Paris

AC5555

Ronin/Deniro, one of his best.

Brian's Dog

National Lampoons European Vacation? 😂😂

Ace Degenerate

I love Cassie but I've been bored the last six months. Doesn't mean I'm going anywhere Cassie. Youre stuck with my $153 a year lol

William Bryan

I had to go with American in Paris cuz it's closest to my favorite, "Lilli" also from the 50s with Leslie Caron

Carolee Barry

I fell asleep just reading this list . I kid I kid

Philip G.

This is a very good list. You can’t go wrong with any choice.

Jed Logan

Same.

Ike

Where is Midnight in Paris?

Justin

Come on Ronin!

Brent Petty

Man am I pulling for Gentlemen Prefer Blonds. A brilliant comedy/musical of the highest order

Rosario Cicero

As good as it gets. They end up in Paris at one point.

Michael Lynch

I’ve never seen any of these 🥖🥐🧀🥘🍷🍾 Should be fun!

Ace Degenerate

If you love dance, you’ll love An American in Paris

Paul B. Allvin

If you don't watch Ronin with Robert DeNiro lol

Louis Chapman

I've heard of The Pink Panther, Ronin, and Forget Paris. That's it lol
