The Wolverine (2013) - Full Reaction

Comments

The bear scene is exactly why I am against hunting. Makes me sick to watch animals suffer.

Zachary K. (Swiftie)

Can’t wait for you to watch Days of Future Past.

Robert James

Don't psych yourselves out about the violence in Logan. Deadpool is just as violent, it's just often used for comedic effect as opposed to dramatic effect like in Logan.

Brent Petty

please, yes & thank you!

Philip Alan

You need to time your end credits better

Eric Wallace

That usually happens when various characters are dealing with depression like Logan, Mariko, her dad, etc. They're not happy to answer speedily, so they think before they talk. More realistic. Not every film should have urgency the way I look at it. Allows time for characters to show their feelings.

YodatheHobbit

This movie was better than I remember story wise. The acting, dialog and action just had no sense of urgency. Everyone seemed to be like a beat slow with their lines, especially when talking to each.

Ian A

Yeah I don't need my comic movies to be super realistic.

Chris Thom

This is so close to being a perfect X-Men and Wolverine movie. The first 2/3 gets Logan perfectly. Mariko and Yuki are both perfect as is the setting of Japan which is so important to Logan's history (as is Viper funnily enough). Unfortunately the studio got involved in the final third and meddled severely hence the weak final act. Director James Mangold and Logan took a significant pay cut for Logan to ensure that the studio would not get involved. James Mangold... vote Copland !

pinkdino99

LOGAN is sublime, but this is still good. Better than I remembered.

Stick Figure Studios

Just no idea how rough.

Stick Figure Studios

I had the same experience.

Stick Figure Studios

Strange I thought the same about enjoying it more than my previous couple of watches lol. Definitely looking forward to their reaction to the next film, Logan is a great movie but it could be a bit of a tough watch in a couple of places for them.

Dean Holt

This movie was better than I remember it being...

Dazman

I've always wondered if Hiroyuki Sanada is the Wes Studi of Japanese characters or if Wes Studi is the Hiroyuki Sanada of Native American characters. I haven't figured it out yet. Either way, neither of them wants for work.

John Casamassa

I would hope so. They're really mustelids, related to weasels, otters, badgers, mink, etc.

Richard Maurer

"Fetch!", "Woof!", "Oh my gosh!". That had all the PiB standards in it. When I saw this hit the Patreon feed I knew I was going to have to wait to see it, but the thing that almost instantly popped into my head was "what was Carly going to say when Logan is cooked in the well"... my first thought was "oh my gosh" and I laughed when I saw it that I had guessed right. It was a high percentage chance, but it could have easily been "fetch". I was expecting a "woof!" for "Noburo" in his red jocks (mainly because he is a cad), but we got it with "Viper" instead. I think her and "Toad" from the original "X-men" movie are competing for least liked, most disgusting characters in the eyes of PiB. Hiroyuki Sanada is a champ... you need a bad-arse Japanese fella.. he's your man. I appreciate that Carly is getting out of her comfort zone for this ride. There a few more bumps to come, but you can do it Carly!

Mojo One Thousand

Logan does not remember events that take place before X-Men Origins? So, why does Logan remember the events of World War II? I hope you or someone can explain it for me.

Ike

You guys probably know a wolverine really isn't a bear, right?

Ben Livingstone

End credit scene is nowhere close to syncing up with what your showing. You guys just skipped straight to the scene( no big deal if you edit in a timer) but you still keep the original timing in the blurred image so it's not remotely close to syncing up. And almost impossible to sync up on your own.

Jacob

Logan lost his memory in X-Men Origins: Wolverine which is a PREQUEL to the first 3 X-Men movies. So, he remembers everything that has happened since then. If you are confused about the timeline now, wait until the next movie.

Shawn Kildal

it's a comic book movie. Things are going to get ridiculous from time to time. That's why I couldn't appreciate Nolan's take on Batman - it was too serious. It insisted upon itself. I digress. The Wolverine is a dang good movie but is overshadowed by the ones that follow it. Yes I cannot wait for DOFP; also is Carly not going to Canada? Is she disavowed by the Canadian government and can never go home? She a spy of sort, I KNOW IT! Anyhoo great reaction. loving the full movies here on the Patreon.

Matthew Gibson

who wouldn't

Matthew Gibson

This will be your favorite Wolverine movie Cassie. This was a true Wolverine story!!!!

Jimmy Reyes

Well, at least Carley knows "Logan" is going to be a rough watch for her.

Ryan Geiger

I am amazed at how much I am enjoying my second viewing of the X-Men movies with the grand sisters of cinema! Please watch Days of Future Past before you go away!!!

Scott Macaulay

This may be my favorite Wolverine movie. I know LOGAN is the one that will stand the test of time as everyone's fav, but there is something very fun about this entry, too. And I like the Japanese setting a lot.

Alex Villarreal

I'm with Carly: The Wolverine is an awesome movie and deserves way more kudos than its given, warts and all. Cassie and Carly: don't know if you have committed to the Deadpool 1 & 2 movies yet, but with Deadpool & Wolverine coming out here soonish, I do hope you're considering including them (even if Carly is a little squeamish).

Chris B.

Although I was able to sync the mid credit scene, please countdown to those as well! We'd love to see your in sync reaction to those as well! Just sayiiiiinnngggg! And I love that Carly loved this one. You see, let them like the ones the want to like! Great reaction, ladies!

Philip Alan

Looking forward to Days of Future Past and then a Deadpool rewatch (hopefully).

Richard Maurer

Oh dang. RIP. That's sad to hear.

Chris Thom

Woah...high praise from Carly!! Related/unrelated: both of you keep getting more beautiful every month. Congratulations. And Logan would be lucky to marry Carly. He'd put a ring on it I bet.

Chris Thom

Great afternoon watch for me. Good stuff. I had only watched this one once in the theatre when it first came out. That train sequence is anxiety inducing! Shocking hot take from Carly at the end. I really Enjoyed watching it with you ladies. I hope you were/are able to watch days of future past before heading to the great white north for your holiday break. I'm really looking forward to that one. Ps: do we get Deadpool after Days of future past?

Canadianant

You know, I enjoyed this movie a lot more this time than I did when I first saw it. Maybe I was just in a bad mood that day or something. I don't know. It's still not as great as LOGAN (even though it's by the same director), but it's much better than I remembered. Glad you both loved it too. I think you're each going to like the next one even more. :-)

Stick Figure Studios

Great Reaction! When you get to Days Of Future Past make sure you watch the deleted scenes. There's one in particular that you and Carly will like. Just bummed it never made it to the theatrical release.

Katie Jackson

This was a first watch for me and I liked it. I found the movie entertaining. Plus, I generally like movies/series set in Tokyo -- an awesome city. I been through Tokyo years ago on business, but more recently we spent 7 days in Tokyo on vacation and loved it -- one of our favorite cities in the world. Logan does seem to connect with pretty women. Mariko is beautiful. As you may have noticed, Mariko's father (Shinghen) is played by the actor Hiroyuki Sanada who is Ujio (Katsumoto's right hand man) in the Last Samurai (2003) and is also in the new series Shōgun. Nice seeing the old Picard (Charles) in the credits scene.

Clay F

I noticed that.

Clay F

Forgiving himself for having to kill the love of his life and getting over his grief, coming to terms with how it was for the greater good is great character building for him. It would feel odd for him to go from X-Men 3 to having no personal reflection or despair about having to kill Jean in DOFP. Time was needed so he could take a break and not be an emotionless robot who gets over things quickly. That's something Logan in the cartoon never did, getting over things. it's very relevant and human.

YodatheHobbit

This movie is always great to watch along with because I can just watch with my bluray and don't need to find it online.

YodatheHobbit

It’s been a while since I’ve watched this one, but even though I remembered most of it a really enjoyed watching it tonight but it’s always great watching how you both react to movies. Can’t wait to see what you think or the next one as it’s not just my favourite X-Men film but one of my favourite comic book movies. I also sad to hear about the passing of the great Donald Sutherland. Such a incredible actor and will always be remembered through the great movies he left us with. RIP Sargent Oddball.

Dean Holt

When I first watched this movie I thought Yukio might possibly be Yuriko Oyama (who was lady deathstrike in the comics). I knew that she was in Xmen 2, but there wasn't much continuity between the films. Of course I now know I was wrong.

Tom Furze

I am so glad you guys enjoyed the movie. The follow-up little scene was very satisfying, I agree.

Tom Furze

Mangold also did IDENTITY and FORD V. FERRARI which Cassie liked.

Stick Figure Studios

I've seen on other places it was a Shogun homage.

Mike Lemon

Hiroyuki Sanada is legit and brings so much to every movie, but does this mean Shingen is the leader of the Yakusa Gang in the MCU? and Ronin/Hawkeye takes him out in Endgame. After, Shogun is Mariko a common name? Or is that an homage to the novel.

Chris Retzlaff

Yeah, Logan is gonna be a rough watch for you guys, but it's a fantastic movie that I believe you will still really appreciate.

Walter

I agree. Very entertaining. I enjoyed the movie. And your reactions. Always good to see you ladies reacting to a movie. Good job.

Rick Williams

This could be her opportunity to watch “Klute” for McQ

Cole Jennett

For me, First Class is the best, but Days of Future Past is pretty great. One thing in the movie always bothers me - which I won't spoil here - but not enough to diminish the rest of the greatness of the movie.

Walter

wolverine has a long history with japan. since he heals he is long lived and has experienced many 'lives' so to speak. also you guys should react to the xmen theme song before the next xmen movie.

rubberkidney

I like this movie more every time I watch it. Huge Jackedman is amazing, of course.

Walter

mid end credits sequence is not in sync with the reaction

Walter Crockett

I had just finished rewatching Old Man Logan narrated by Comicstorian when I heard that he'd passed away. R.I.P Ben. You were a legend that gladdened the hearts of many.

ArsTropica

Cassie: consider pulling an audible and doing M*A*S*H in honor of Donald Sutherland who just passed today.

Matt Rose

Jackman is da bomb in Logan yo

Odd Thomas

I found this entry incredibly dull; even more surprising when the same director made Logan, which is a series highlight.

Odd Thomas

"Although its final act succumbs to the usual cartoonish antics, The Wolverine is one superhero movie that manages to stay true to the comics while keeping casual viewers entertained."

Clay F

It all depends if the Rogue Cut is widely available for free because it’s available for free on Disney + for the theater cut and Cassie usually goes with most widely available

David Freese

Tao Okamoto is gorgeous 🥰

Bill Maurer

Thank you Disney + for having this. And thank you Cassie for the watch. Looking forward as well to Days of Future Past and Logan.

Tom Furze

They don't have sound. You have to sync it up with your own copy of the movie

Brandon

Thanks for giving me something to look forward to for tonight, Cassie.

Rick Williams

Can't hear the movie ?

Edward Narvaez

Unfortunately, the only relevant part of this movie is the post credit scene. Film is just an obstruction to get through before DOFP.

aarswft

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen the mid credit scene for this, or at least I have no memory of it. I may have to watch it before the rest of the movie😂

Cole Jennett

This was a fun and entertaining movie, not a great movie. X-men: Days of Future Past is the best XMen team movie (IMO); LOGAN is an amazing drama and emotional gut-punch. Great closure to the Wolverine/ProfessorX arc.

Anthony Oberhauser

Parts of this movie bothered me a bit, like the silver Samurai part. but overall it’s good and it does lead well into Days of Future Past. Which btw I recommend watching the Rogue Cut of it when you do if you can.

Alex Gorell

Cassie and Carly back together to watch another X-Men. What could be a better way to spend a Thursday night? I need something to cheer me up after the results of those CT scans yesterday. Check Vlog for that information. I can't think of anything else to lift my spirits then Cassie and Carly you guys are the 💣.

Zachary K. (Swiftie)

you'll be thrilled to know that James Mangold, who directed this, went on to do LOGAN. As good as THE WOLVERINE is, LOGAN crushes it.

Matt Rose

I think this is just the regular version. We watched it on Disney+!

Cassie

Based On: This movie as a whole is loosely based on the miniseries "Wolverine" from 1982 that began in the Canadian Rockies before the action shifted to Japan introducing us to characters like Yukio. This Miniseries was actually the first solo run of Wolverine written by Chris Claremont & Frank Miller. Mariko Yashida is also a love interest in the comics first appearing in The Uncanny X-Men #118 (1979) and in the 1982 Miniseries gets engaged to Logan. So you can already see small elements that slightly made their way into the film. The comic also released after the Dark Phoenix Saga (1981) which of course inspired X-Men: The Last Stand showcasing the death of Jean Grey. Cannot recall if Jean is ever brought up in the comic miniseries though. ------------------------------------------------------------- Viper & Hydra Connection: Ophelia Sarkissian (Evil Woman) was introduced as Madame Hydra in Captain America #110 (1968) and later as Viper in Captain America #180 (1974) heavy ties to Hydra, one of the reasons why she wears green. She later left the group and reunited the Serpent Squad, killing the original Viper and taking his name. Viper is very much a Captain America villain who overtime starting to interact with the X-Men, Wolverine etc. For legal reason they couldn't mention her Hydra connections in this film as Fox only own the rights to The X-Men. So Hydra was off limits even though Viper was Madame Hydra. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Silver Samurai: Kenuichio Harada (Bow Guy) in the comics is the Silver Samurai. He was introduced in Daredevil #111 (1974) but as Harada is a Mutant (Never brought up in this movie) the rights to his character are owned by Fox. Personally mixed feelings upwards the addition of the Silver Samurai in The Wolverine as Harada never becomes the Silver Samurai :( The armour we see worn by Ichirō Yashida (old man) is a little closer to what the Sliver Samurai looks like in the comics just without a red rising sun on the chest and a mouth opening. It's much larger in the film acting like an exosuit while in the comics it's closer to an Iron Man suit just in the design of a Samurai. Sliver Samurai was also the field leader of Big Hero Six in the comics which of course was adopted into an amazing Animated film that differs from the comic and began it's own thing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Deleted Scene: I'll end this on a fun deleted scene. Within the plane near the end of the film Yukio hands Logan a suitcase, can actually still see her carrying the suitcase in the final film it's just never opened or given to Logan. But within this suitcase is a Wolverine Suit and Mask with a yellow and brown colour scheme based on Wolverines outfit of the 1980s. This is the first and only time we see the iconic Wolverine outfit in these films. You saw his iconic Yellow and Blue outfit in X-Men 97 trailer which is more iconic but I really love the Yellow and Brown suit as well. Deleted Scene - https://youtu.be/M4E0fDhGc40?t=60

LittleGalaxyBoy

Can’t hardly wait for LOGAN.

Uncle Phoenix

FYI, Alex Summers, the guy who could shot energy waves from his chest in the last X-Men movie, is Scott’s Summers older brother AKA Cyclops! Also, didn’t you find curious that Azazel, the red teleporting mutant and Mystik were in the same team and years later we get Nightcrawler, a teleporting mutant with blue skin? Hmmmm 🤔

Edwin

Is this the unrated cut or regular cut? Eager to watch after work!

Tbag917

This isn’t as good as Days of Future Past or Logan but I believe this is a good James Mangold flick that is better than origins. Edit: just watched the outro but the credit scene is behind you watching it but that’s just a hiccup and Days of Future Past has a little twist you’ll love. Also it’s when the timeline totally splits as well

David Freese

Once again, you’re timing is impeccable. My night is set!
