Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) - Full Reaction

This was absurd ridic but very fun and one of those I can just picture everyone quoting all the time, like the 80's Anchorman! Hey! I even learned some history ;) Be excellent to each other is a pretty great sentiment!

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) - Full Reaction

Comments

Literally watched this in the theater when it first came out. it was fun...but yeah stupid. Got to love what Keanu did with his movie career after this.

Carlos Stevens

I do not believe that Keanu Reeves was ever that young. (he said denying that we are literally the same age).

Carlos Stevens

I forgot to mention .. not sure if anyone else did or not.. but the writers of the movie are the guys who brought Napoleon his ice cream at the Ziggy Pig.

Johnny Bullis

Most underrated Keanu movie is 100% "River's Edge"

Dom

Comedian George Carlin actually starred in very few movies prior to this one, his last being Outrageous Fortune the previous year with Bette Midler & Shelley Long. Prior to that, his only other big screen appearances were in the movies Car Wash & Americathon in 1976 & 1979 respectively. He actually told Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show that he preferred doing stand-up as opposed to movies because doing stand-up allowed him a measure of freedom that you lose while doing movie productions.

Donald Fleming

The actress who played Joan of Arc is Jane Wiedlin, best known as the co-founder of the rock group The Go-Go's.

Donald Fleming

Finally got around to watching this one. I knew Cassie would enjoy this one. No doubt Carly would have too. Was a nice trip down memory lane watch this movie. I really hope Cassie watches the two sequels. I haven't see the third one yet so would be great to watch it for the first time along with her.

Luke Godfrey

People overlook one of the funniest jokes in movie history in this one. Bill's dad is a lawyer. Bill doesn't realize that when his dad, Mr. Preston adds “esquire" at the end of his own name because he's a lawyer, that it isn't a part of his family name. Bill says it because his dad says it.

Farbod

FYI: Mr. Reeves plays a Handsome, Wholesome, and SINGLE Doctor in “Something’s Gotta Give”(2003). Its kind of like a sequel to “As Good As It Gets”(1997). Jack’s character get’s completely healed and has more adventures.

Uncle Phoenix

Yeah he really grew up quick around 1994.

Chris Thom

Had no idea it was Phoenix. Always assumed it was an LA suburb.

Chris Thom

Awe this takes me back. Haven't seen this and the sequel since I was 7. But I do remember watching them like ten times each at least. When Speed came out I never even made the connection that Keanu was the same actor.

Chris Thom

This was filmed around my city in Phoenix. When this came out my friends and I had not seen it on opening night. Our drama/English teacher walked into class saw me and my best friend standing by our desks chatting and laughing, she pointed at us, " And said.. I just saw you both in a movie last night".... She told us what it was, and without even seeing, we both looked at each other and said, "Excellent".. We went to go see it and I remember saying.. " We're not like that".. and my mom looked and said "Yeah you both are".. ha.. Sadly my best friend passed away a couple years later still before graduation. This is a happy movie for me, brings back a lot of fun memories of my old pal...

Ryan Towell

It just occurred to me that if Ted had actually been sent to Col. Oates military academy, it may have been the first step in him turning into John Wick! That's right, the JW films are part of the Bill and Ted multiverse!

ProgressiveRoxx

What makes this movie special is that it wears it's heart on it's sleeve. Bill & Ted, whilst idiots are earnest, sincere, loving and their message is a solid one... Be excellent to each other ! My fave joke that many miss is when "Siggy" starts propositioning the girls in the mall, and he is holding some form of sausage on a stick, and as they turn him down the stick goes limp. The second film is as funny and goes in a completely different direction.

pinkdino99

Cassie, So in my last post on this movie. It has been painfully aware that I took away from the work you did on this movie. I honestly and truly didn't mean to do that Cassie. I ended up giving you a Super Thanks on YouTube in your Stardust video. I apologize for my earlier post if it took away from the work you did on this. I was merely trying to thank you for everything. I guess sometimes we learn lessons the hard way.

Zachary K. (Swiftie)

As an actor, I think the secret MVP of this movie is Tony Steedman, who plays Socrates. He is 100% alive and in character every moment he’s onscreen. Every time I watch this movie I admire how fully, mercilessly committed he is to the concept. All the historical figures are, but the camera just somehow finds Steedman in the exact right moment every time.

Brian Harris

I've been hoping and waiting so long and it's here. Loved the reaction. Please! More Bill and Ted. You made my day. Thank you.

clays283

"So fun and charming and... ridiculous." History! Who knew? "Be excellent to each other - and - patron!" Great react!

Terry Yelmene

I'm not sure if I wanna say thanks, or no thanks for the reminder. 😂 Amazing how stuff like that get completely wiped from our memories.

YodatheHobbit

I think I did too, or had my mom rent it when I was 6 from blockbuster. Hard to remember. My first exposure to Bill and Ted was an ad for Excellent Adventure on a box of cereal. Or was it a Bill and Ted cereal???? Then later I saw Bogus Journey before Excellent Adventure. Soundtrack was the first cassette I ever owned.

YodatheHobbit

This is my fav Keanu movie by a mile. In fact, I like to think that Ted Theodore Logan is actually the closest role he's had to his real nature, ie the sweetest man in the world.

ProgressiveRoxx

Wow, who knew there was a live action series? Warning- it looks terrible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKXFbUQKva4

Mike Lemon

I can never make my mind up if I like this more or the sequel, which I really hope you check out. But it’s just ridiculous silly fun. But Mr Reaves was very different back then just can’t believe sometimes he the same person who plays John Wick lol. But another couple movies you should check out with similar humour is Tommy Boy & Airheads (with Brendan Fraser, Steve Buscemi & Adam Sandler) they are just some of my go to movies when I need cheering up.

Dean Holt

I like Bogus Journey more, mainly as I saw it in the cinema as a kid

Odd Thomas

Places In The Heart is a wonderful movie. It has Sally Fields, Ed Harris, and many others. I think it’s late 80s early 90s. Sally won an Oscar for her role in this movie.

Laura Grubler

I don't think Bill and Ted are dumb, inexperienced, naive, forgetful, absolutely! lol. They seem to absorb information like sponges. I bet they could win any Rock Music trivia contest. If you listen carefully, they seem to use a lot of big words, properly(eg Bodacious).

Stephen Last

Please watch the sequel, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

Joshua s. Jackson

I've known Alex Winter's half brother Stephen Winter for 20 years...he's a piano player in my industry...worked with him once. About 15 years ago he and I were playing in Oklahoma city. I said, "Hey man...I know you'e sick of the question...but please indulge me." I didn't even have to ask the question (it was will there ever be "B&T 3?)...he immediately said, "It's what EVERYBODY wants to happend...it's just all the minutia details holding it up...but I feel strongly it will eventually happen." I was ultimately disappointed in B&T 3, but it was fun.

PianoDean

Lol this was fun. One of my favorite movies when i was a little kid, i probably rented the vhs copy 50 times. Now you have to watch Bill & Ted's BOGUS Adventure!!!!

Ben Schwartz

If it helps, JustWatch.com has incorrect information on this film. It is available for streaming on MAX (HBO) . So, if you have MAX you don't have to rent it.

Steve Holton

"you may be a king or a lowly street sweeper, but sooner or later you dance with the Reaper"

Chris Retzlaff

Does San Dimas High Football rule? 😂😂

Chris Retzlaff

Whoa, I think I'm Back.....excellent. Ted Theodore Wick

Chris Retzlaff

The Sea is the last frontier, that's why I loved Seaquest SVU along with Star Trek, now on Peacock

Chris Retzlaff

The Matrix. Period! Great reaction! I live 3 mins from San Dimas!

Philip Alan

so sweet, i need their friendship to last forever

Cassie

i had no idea it started as SNL! I liked this one better too, more endearing

Cassie

I wasn't sure what what was my favorite Keanu movie so I went on IMDB and went through his filmography. Turns out it's Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure :-)

Richard Maurer

Thank you, I needed a smile today. I can't remember watching you giggle so much at a movie. Once again, you've made something familiar a little more meaningful for me.

Scott Macaulay

What helps me is remembering So-Crates’ quote… “The only true wisdom is in knowing, that you know nothing.”

Larry Darrell

Hating on Bill & Ted - well, that's a new one for me.

Richard Maurer

Classy Cassie This Bill and Ted came out when I I was in third grade but. I was 9 years old. After taking classes in college on ancient civilizations, I knew everything they were talking about and the answers to all the questions in the film. I will leave the history lesson to other people. But thank you for the wonderful reaction definitely made my day. The question posed to me earlier in the week from my ex was can I learn to to let go of disliking Star Trek and because two people I care about (one being you) love it. Some people look to Star Trek to entertain them not to get something out of it. After all I loved the Friday 13th franchise when I was in middle school and highschool then it was Harry Potter and now it's Game Of Thrones, House Of The Dragon. So I learned to let it all go and will be cheering it on. Although I still think the ocean is the final frontier. Your happiness Cassie is freaking contagious I am telling you. As I spread the word of your channel near and far. I did update my latest Vlog on my YouTube page which I won't advertise here. But maybe on your Instagram page tomorrow? Thanks Cassie this is usually the part where I would take my fedora off and bow.

Zachary K. (Swiftie)

Cassie.. I am so glad you did this movie.. my all time favorite movie. A great child hood memory that went with seeing this for the 1st time in the theater when it came out. Just some cool trivia.. the 3 people in the future floating on the wall all have musical backgrounds and Joan of Arc was played by Jane Wiedlan who was part of the 80s group the Go-Go's ... shes also in Clue as the singing telegram girl. And you are so right about how Keanu Reeves went from playing air head characters like Bill.. or Tod from Parenthood to being in 2 action movies that redefined the genre.. The Matrix and now John Wick. You should now check out Bill & Teds Bogus Journey.. which in my opinion wasnt as good.. and then check out Bill & Ted Face the Music which was excellent as well... it was a great ending to their journey. Again.. a happy guy that you reacted to this.. and your reactions as always were awesome.. just a light hearted good time with actual goose bump inducing moments.

Johnny Bullis

Even though Bill & Ted bear a superficial resemblance to Wayne and Garth from "Wayne's World" (and you're not the first to make the comparison), I've always loved Excellent Adventure far more. There is an earnestness to it, and what feels like a genuine celebration of 80's rock. Don't get me wrong. I really did enjoy Wayne's World, but more as the recurring SNL skit. By the time it made it to the movies, it just felt like the inevitable cash-in of the property, rather than something to genuinely love.

WastedPo

Cassie, Keanu appeared in another movie with Patrick Swayze along with Rob Lowe called Youngblood about a hockey player. Keanu and Swayze are part of the hockey team. It might have been his first movie appearance. That can be used as a trivia question.

Tara

One of my favorite movies by Keanu Reeves is A Walk in the Clouds.

Tom Furze

Cassie, people still quote this movie. It’s one of those things where if you know, you know. Keanu was 24 when this movie came out. It’s hard to believe he is now 60!!! It’s so strange seeing Keanu like this after seeing him as John Wick, Neo and all the other great characters he has played. One thing I noticed is that he has a great smile. Yes, it’s ridiculous, but Bill S Preston and Ted Theodore Logan are just sweet, but not very bright guys.

Tara

SPEED. I could watch it above 50 times, probably have, and rarely get bored.

YodatheHobbit

I love Bill and Ted, it's entirely ridiculous as you said but it's just so fun. Their friendship is sweet and they are just lovely guys, I really hope you watch Bogus Journey.

Delia P

And so is “party on, dudes!”

Dylan Melton

loved the 'whats your favorite keeanu movie 3..2...1..' and you didnt have one ready. im like racing to think of one and then its like...'uh go post a comment i dont have one.' but i would say anyone with sense would say probably the matrix but also maybe speed. im not really a huge john wick fan but i dont see how anyone could consider that his best movie. i think maybe devils advocate was his best 'acting' role. bill and ted and wayne and garth all represent the milieu of being a teenager in the late 80s. a very post hair metal pre grunge surfer inspired type aesthetic.

rubberkidney

Haven't seen this one. But since it's Keanu, I felt like bringing up this quote of his that I stumbled upon recently: "I'm at that stage in life where I stay out of arguments. Even if you say 1+1 = 5, you're right. Have fun". How I wish I could have that mindset. Sure I'm not the only one.

Shehab Dawoud

Finally, someone got the Days of Our Lives reference. This is one of those movies I keep returning to and one that pops up in everyday thoughts. I always think of "Dave Beeth-oven" whenever I hear someone mention Beethoven, and Socrates will forever be So-crates.

Mike Lemon

I really liked this film years ago and still holds up well today. One of my mates is a massive music geek and we enjoy all the music references these films offer. I hope you check out the other 2.

ROBERT CLARK

The remarkable thing about BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE is that even though it is about two very dumb characters (guileless but dumb), it is actually a pretty smart movie filed with interesting facts about history, some deceptively clever gags (my personal favorite being the shot of Sigmund Freud holding the corndog), a kickass soundtrack and even a relatively sophisticated portrayal of time travel ,(this film embraces the "closed loop" theory seen in stories like SOMEWHERE IN TIME as opposed to the "open loop" version you typically see in movies like BACK TO THE FUTURE"). It is also, in addition to being extremely silly, a surprisingly sweet and somewhat innocent movie with its premise of a single band's music being able to unite the planets in peace and harmony. It's the utopian future of STAR TREK via the redemptive soul rock and roll. As a kid, I saw this in the theater with my family in 1988 and I immediately loved it. You are correct about it being similar to WAYNE'S WORLD but with all due respect to Wayne and Garth, Bill and Ted did it first. This was my introduction to Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter (who you probably recognized from THE LOST BOYS) and the late great stand-up comedian George Carlin (Rufus). It also introduced me to some significant historical figures since Billy the kid, Beethoven and Abraham Lincoln were the only people I was familiar with at the time. Interesting factoid about Robert V Barron, the actor that you observed made an excellent Lincoln: he played the famous president no less than four times. This wasn't his first portrayal and it wouldn't be his last. This was a most excellent reaction. So glad that you got to watch it and extremely glad that you enjoyed it. It is a very fun movie and so are its sequels. You should check them out too. *On the subject of "closed loop" time travel, get ready to have your mind blown: when Bill and Ted meet themselves at the Circle K, they see Rufus standing there and they tell their younger selves "Listen to this dude Rufus. He knows what he's talking about." Rufus never introduced himself to Bill and Ted. How did they know his name?

Stick Figure Studios

Weirdly I saw Bonus Journey first - by accident! I was maybe five or six and my mum took me to see Snow White, but it was fully booked when we got there. So she asked what I wanted to see - and I picked Bill and Ted. Didn't see the original (or even know there was one) until a few years later.

Laura Thornley

Bill & Ted was never one of my favorites. Ridiculous is a good word for it. Goofy, over-the-top, ludicrous, childish, silliness. I enjoyed your reaction more than the movie itself, and through your reaction enjoyed the movie more than I ever have in the past.

D. T. Nelson

You need to meet Grim Reaper and DeNomolus in Bill and Ted 2, Both were in the two best cop movie sequels Die Hard 2 and Leathal Weapon 2.

Chris Retzlaff

Those were the two creators playing the parlor guys

Chris Retzlaff

I have loved this movie since I first saw it as a kid, it may have been the last day of school so the teachers threw on a movie. Probably the best high school history presentation ever. You must have had a sore face Cassie, as you basically were grinning the whole time. I still say "beeth-oven" and "so-crates" instead of the correct pronunciation. I always forget about until I watch it, but I find it funny that "Ted' is not his nickname for "Theodore" which is a common thing for that name. But his actual first name the nickname for his middle name - he always introduces himself as "Ted Theodore Logan" It is this movie that lead to "Neo's" "woah" in "The Matrix" movie becoming a bit of a meme, just because of the ridiculousness of "Ted" versus the more earnest delivery of "Neo". I agree with you Cassie that "Shane Falco" is probably my favourite, not that I don't enjoy that the many Johns "WIck" and "Utah", or "Jack Traven". I also like him in a movie called "Street Kings", with a pretty handy cast of familar faces.

Mojo One Thousand

I remember the band EXTREME. I saw VH in concert in 1980 in Beaumont, Texas.

Clay F

And as a blonde myself we aren't 'dumb' - but we do have a deserved reputation for being occasionally ditsy. I don't know why it is that way. Self fulfilling prophesy, perhaps?

Laura Thornley

Oh, hello childhood. Its been a while.

Laura Thornley

One of my all time favorites...saw it when I was a freshman in college back in '89. The t shirt Keanu (Ted) is wearing is the shirt from the 5150 Van Halen tour...the first one with Sammy Hagar. I went to the VH concert in '86 in Biloxi, Mississippi and I HAVE that shirt...vintage ORIGINAL! Van Hagar fans, MAKE ME AN OFFER! I was in my mom's attic last year and found it. It's held up quite well. I want to see Cassie react when they introduce "Dave Beeth-OVEN". Great soundtrack as well...first major thing that featured the band EXTREME and the song "Play With Me" from the mall scene.

PianoDean

See her Airplane reaction.

Clay F

Giving a heart sight-unseen ;* <3 Now to watch and smile with you Cassie.

MertzRocks

This was a most triumphant reaction, loved every second, it's true that Keanu plays his roles very differently, (John Wick might be my fave). Looking forward to your sequel reaction- Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

D4RK

I honestly don't remember the last time Cassie smiled and giggled this much throughout a movie. This is one of my all time favorites growing up and easily a top 10 reaction for me. Party on, dudes!

Kent

Party on Cassie!

Wes

The guys who wrote this movie have claimed that they'd never heard of Dr. Who, and I believe them. It wasn't super well-known stateside at this time.

Allan Rumberger

And a historical babe

Allan Rumberger

Nah

Allan Rumberger

Wayne's World is better lol

William Bryan

Fun fact…Joan of Arc was played by Jane Wiedlin, the rhythm guitarist for the 80’s girl super group The Go Go’s.

Dan M

I have spent more or less my entire life referring to him as Beeth-Oven. Party on dudes

Miguel

I had so much fun watching along with you! And yes…after seeing this in the theater, my best friend and I quoted this movie ALL the time. Whenever we’d call each other up, one of would say “ How’s it going dude?”, and the other would say “Excellent dude!” This is a perfect movie to watch when your down and you just need to laugh. Yes, its ridiculous like you said, but I think the other word you were looking for is …EXCELLENT!!

Dan M

All I have to say is STATION! I really hope you watch Bogus Journey. I had these films on auto rewind growing up

Ronny Boss

Cassie, remember the long haired, curly headed vampire that gets staked in the cave in “The Lost Boys”? That’s Alex Winter aka Bill S. Preston, Esquire. He and Keanu are close friends in real life and, when Winter directed a little known cult classic called “Freaked” a few years after this, his good buddy Keanu played the uncredited role of “Dog Boy.” Also, Rufus was played by George Carlin, widely regarded as one of the greatest stand up comics of all time. Finally, although I have no confirmation of this, I fully believe the time machine was modeled after the TARDIS, the time machine used by Dr. Who, a wonderful sci fi series that dates back 60 years and is still being broadcast. Of course, in Dr. Who the phone booth is one for police use and of English design, and it’s much larger on the inside than the outside. But the fact that both time machines are disguised as phone booths is too great a coincidence for me to believe that it’s only happenstance. PS: The second film in the series is also most excellent but the third, only released a couple of years ago, is just awful. PPS: Does anyone else think Bill and Ted sound like Cassie mispronouncing names? 😂

Just Plain Bob

hope you watch the rest so you can meet STATION! STATION!!!!

djKENTO

R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen. Been looking forward to this. Good to watch late on a Saturday night. "Strange things are afoot at the Circle-K." I first watched this movie shortly after released -- on VHS. The movie is fun and creative, and had impact on culture, e.g., w/people repeating the one-liners. Keanu is good in this and in Speed, John Wick franchise, etc. A good actor. We saw George Carlin (awesome) [who is Rufus] in Lake Charles, Louisiana in about 1990. Some in the audience were offended and walked out of his show. I like Iron Maiden, and "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas. I love Led Zeppelin (including the Houses of Holy album). I grew up on Van Halen. In 1980 while in high school, I saw Van Halen in concert when they were promoting their third album "Women and Children First" (1980). Alex Winter is better imo in this than in The Lost Boys.

Clay F

Most excellent fun! This is just a mindless good time. I love it. Favorite Keanu movie is probably John Wick followed by Replacements. Also Devils Advocate and Constantine are both good. Party on dudes!

Michael West

Billy the Kid…Emilio Estevez in Young Guns.

Dan M

As a side note, it's funny to see how thin Keanu Reeves is here and then look two years later after he got absolutely ripped. The man hit the gym.

Matt Rose

love me some BOGUS JOURNEY as well, but I thought FACE THE MUSIC was a worthy third film.

Matt Rose

Strange things are afoot at the Circle K...

Matt Rose

Doctor Who Theme Intensifies

LittleGalaxyBoy

The second one is absolutely worth watching, but I like to live in a world where the 3rd movie doesn’t exist. Also, the scene where they introduce all the historical figures to Missy by changing there names ever so slightly😂. I always use those names as my gamer tags. Socrates Johnson, Bob Genghis Khan, Herman the Kid, etc.

Cole Jennett

Favorite Keanu movie…The Replacements. No question.

Dan M

Excellent!

Jay Davis

Ziggy Piggy...ZIGGY PIGGY!!!

Ian A

My Favorite Keanu Reeves movie is Johnny Mnemonic

James Loveless

Station!!

Coleton B.

Okay, maybe I’ll put off watching the YouTube edit of Stardust to watch this most excellent reaction. Thanks, Cassie! Please wish Ben a Happy Father’s Day! And to all the other dad’s in the PIB community, may you all have a triumphant day!

Dan M

My all time favorite movie

Tom mumford

Whoaaa!!!

David Freese
