The Iron Giant (1999) - Full Reaction

This one was cute and fun, or in carly's words... tender! It had a great message and is definitely one we would have loved as kids! What are your memories with this one?

The Iron Giant (1999) - Full Reaction

Comments

Tender indeed. I haven't watched this in probably 20 years and it was even better than I remembered. Its been a rough week and watching this with you guys was very much needed.

My_Cousin_Mose

Did she react to the signature edition? I want to get the version she reacted to. Edit: I got the regular version and it went out of sync with her reaction, so maybe she did react to the signature edition (not sure.) It worked out -- I was able to get back into sync and enjoyed the reaction.

Wow, I’ve never seen this. Friends have said it was really good - but I shamefully judged the cover and the synopsis all these years and thought…. ehh. So, I just watched it and was blown away. It both sweet and funny - it is also fearless in tone (Agent Mansley) - but mostly it has HEART. Wonderful reaction! I’m glad I watched this :)

Would love to see Cassie react to All-Star Superman. An epic, romantic tearjerker... she'd really enjoy it, I think!

Silver Machine

I never got the hype for this movie . To me a solid 7/10 but nothing spectacular . Just came out at the right time with the right animation style .

Philip G.

He's a pretty decent guy in "Hacks"

DAVID COSTELLO

My favorite Superman movie is still the original 1978 masterpiece by Richard Donner.

Stick Figure Studios

A Batman AND Superman film back to back!!! Fantastic. This along with All-Star Superman (2011) are my favourite Superman films, yep I'm classing Iron Giant as a Superman film in spirit lol

LittleGalaxyBoy

Iron Giant can’t wait for the reaction. I really hope you enjoyed the movie.

Love this movie. Just an engaging, feel good, journey. "You are who you choose to be" is probably one of my all time favorite lines. So glad you watched it.

I do enjoy that no matter the context, "Shooter McGavin" is always recognised, and almost immediately. Christopher McDonald is very good at playing smarmy, terrible people. I think that one episode of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" that was watched on the channel is the only time I have seen he play good character. He is like the WIlliam Atherton of the '90s. Also, "Frasier's" dad, John Mahoney (RIP), plays the General, he was also in "The American President". Brad Bird knows how to make a movie.

Mojo One Thousand

I thought about that movie when I watched this, as there is a commercial on TV in this at one point that says "Tomorrowland".

Mojo One Thousand

Cassie, you often get to chat with your parents about a movie you've seen, but did you talk with your kids about this one??

Jon Johns

Ahh I can't wait to watch this later! One of the best animated films.

kaiielle

Am I crazy or did the reaction skip forward at random times?

aarswft

An underrated Brad Bird movie is Tomorrowland, with George Clooney.

Odd Thomas

Cassie, reminder: The Iron Giant was one of the movies Ted showed the team on Movie night during an away game, and the entire team was weeping!

Jon Johns

Cassie & Carly, there used to be comic called "Felix the Cat" like in 1913? It became a TV cartoon series in the late 1950's. Felix used to go to his "scientist" friend named Poindexter, for help with Felix's elaborate plans. People used the name "Poindexter" to refer to nerdy people, and it became kind of an insult before "Nerd" became a thing.

Jon Johns

One of the greatest films ever made. The Iron Giant is fantastic! So glad y'all watched this!

In 1999 when this came out I was working construction and getting nicely toasted. I could have cared less about this movie. I didn't see it till I lived with a girl and had HBO that wasn't until 2007. I would have been in college then. I remember her and I cuddling with our dogs. Watching "tender" movies. Back when I thought the USS Enterprise was the Enterprise Rent Car company renting out old classic Chevy SS ( Super Sport) cars.

Wow! Two full reactions in less than 24 hours?!? It’s like Christmas in June! Now I have to decide which one to watch first. When I first saw this movie, it instantly made me feel like a kid again. It took me back to those rainy afternoons after school when I would watch 50s and 60s Sci Fi movies until dinner was ready. This movie is a gem. And Carly hit the nail on the head…its totally tender.

Dan M

Vin Diesel is the voice of the iron giant, btw.

Brent Petty

Poindexter basically = nerd.

Brent Petty

I remember seeing it in the theaters and just remember how different it was from the Disney or Bluth films. One thing that really made the actual Iron Giant stand out for me were his eyes gave him such emotion and character. The other thing I was always trying to do during the movie is figure out who the voice actors were, because they all sounded so familiar. This is a beautiful movie and I am glad that over time it has become much more well known and respected.

Damien beatty

It's been a long time since I've seen this movie, but I do remember seeing it in the theater and loved it! Such an underrated classic that deserves more love! Glad to hear you and Carly enjoyed it! I'll watch this at a later time, it's 2am and I'm tired lol! Love and support🥰😇🙏😁😉✌🌹

Wesley White

Of course Shooter McGavin voices Mansley

DAVID COSTELLO

Took a girl to see this on a first date... We never spoke again.

djKENTO

The government agent character reminded me of the EPA guy from Ghostbusters.

Bert Towle

Oh look! It’s my favorite Superman movie. This movie is so sweet.
