FYI my friend Julie is prominently featured in the documentary Remembering Leonard Nimoy available on Amazon Prime Video. Her brother Adam also. It shows the house on Palms Blvd. (near me) and I believe Leonard gives at speech at Boston University his alma mater.

"Us TOS fans"? There appears to be an incorrect assumption in play. You didn't see me comment on that video because I was here, then. The TOS episodes and the first six movies are, in fact, what brought me here. I, too, would have loved for Cassie to experience the likes of "Balance of Terror," "Arena" and others, but sadly, that phase is done. We can only hope for a revisitation, in the future.

I think "Hollow Pursuits" is necessary, if one is to see and fully understand "The Nth Degree." I cannot speak for your personal experience, of course, but it seems to me that where the character is, in the latter, may not have any meaning, without knowing the former.
Joe Jupiter
2024-04-29 22:03:09 +0000 UTC
Yes. She missed out on the essential Classic episodes like Balance of Terror, the first one with Sarek and Mirror Mirror. I don't think she should see Hollow Pursuits. She should instead see the Nth Degree. That was my first Barclay episode and probably the best one. Gave me a good impression of him rather than being an awkward out of touch nerd like I was. On a side note I hope she sees all the episodes with Lore including Brothers. and the episode with Scotty and the Dyson sphere. I would love to see her reaction.

oh wow! When I lived in Boston I knew a Jewish guy who grew up with "little Lenny" in West Boston. There was even a documentary about the old neighborhood and Yiddish where it had Spock was speaking in Yiddish! LOL!

I agree with others, the story arcs are multi season, and almost the entire show needs to be watched.
I would actually prefer that she switch over to Stargate Sg-1 and watch that in entirety as I think that show is more in line with what i think she likes. I'm glad she's doing trek, but stargate just feel more Cassie-esque.

And consider the fact the number of views for the TOS episodes video on YouTube far exceed the any of the TNG numbers.

2024-04-29 07:32:52 +0000 UTC
How do you think how us TOS fans feel?? We ONLY got 4 episodes in total (which averages out to 1.33 episodes per season). I'd be over the moon if I was to get at least 4 per season.

Mark Leonard (Sarek) died in 1996 and was close personal friends with Leonard Nimoy. i know this because I myself knew the Nimoy family well through Leonard's daughter Julie whom I went to college with and we were best friends. I can show you pics if you want to email me Cassie. When Star Trek first aired they were living on Palms Blvd., a street I traveled often. Julie showed me her old house about 2 miles away from mine at the time. Great moment when Picard, as Sarek, says "I love you" to Spock.

I wouldn't worry too much. "Inner Light" is on just about everyone's top 5 greatest STNG episodes ever. There might be an actual revolt if she didn't include it in her watch list, and I'd lead the charge. :=)
Mark Schamber
2024-04-29 03:23:39 +0000 UTC
I would love to see her react to Inner Light. It’s Patrick Stewart’s favorite episode! But I hardly see anyone talking about it for Season 5. By far it’s the best Picard episode in the series, but given the amount that she’s watching per season, and how many great episodes in 5. We can only pray that it makes the list.
Randy
2024-04-29 02:05:48 +0000 UTC
I agree. There is no reason not to include Family, it deserves to be part of the sequence of the transition of seasons 3-4, definitely not to be skipped. It’s so important to understand the person of Jean Luc Picard and the episode relevance to the movies later on.
Elias Shaikh
2024-04-29 00:25:51 +0000 UTC
I'm glad that you enjoyed these episodes. They certainly are all good ones, and represent the series well. However, it is still a shame to limit them to only four, since there are so many more good ones. If you're up for some extracurricular viewing, I offer some recommendations. Since you like Data, "The Ensigns of Command," "The Offspring" and "The Most Toys" are excellent features for him. Since you like Picard, "Allegiance" and "Captain's Holiday" are likewise excellent for him. I also highly recommend "The Enemy," "The Price," "The Defector" and "Tin Man," simply because they're very fun. And perhaps most importantly, if nothing else, I urge you to watch "Hollow Pursuits," because it is the debut episode of one of the greatest characters in all of Trekdom, Reginald Barclay!
Joe Jupiter

Next Cassie, you need to don the pointed ears and see if you can lift one eyebrow independently of the other! Feel free to lobby for aspects of Trek that you'd like us to target when voting for future episodes: it might lessen the disagreements, though I rather doubt it!🤣

The episode directly after Best of Both Worlds Pt. 2 is Pt. 3, it's called Family. It deals with the emotional trauma of events from Best of Both Worlds and Sins of the Father. If you google it, the Showrunners and Writers put it directly after Best of Both Worlds Pt. 2 because it's considered a Pt. 3. It's a fan favorite and a nice closure to the 2 episodes prior.

That's a TOS rule. In Next Gen, red is the color of command officers. Cassie is captain of the U.S.S. Kernel.

By the way, I am hearting your comment. I wanted to make clear I am not saying "ooh his children were frightened, I like it." Rather I understand that children can get frightened at things. Mine would also be frightened by things, and in those moments I became Superdad.

If you like time travel stuff, I would strongly recommend the movie Looper. There's lots of great time travel movies, and you've probably seen a lot of them, but I think you'd like Looper if you haven't already seen it.

Yesterday's Enterprise - The ship returning to the past, avoided war, regardless if it was destroyed or not. This is because Klingon's value honor, and a Federation ship choosing to die to protect their innocent civilians was considered an honorable action by the Klingons. Instead, because the Enterprise left the battle going through the time wormhole, the Klingons assumed it was the Federation that killed the citizens. Also, surprised you didn't comment on the TOS movie Kirk Era uniforms from the old ship. I loved that detail!

Season 3, ep 13 entitled "Deja Q" is an all-time fave among fans. The writers at this time were in their warp speed stride. The idea of omnipotent Q losing his power had to be like eating 10 chocolate sundays for them. This humorous episode exceeds most of the current Star Trek shows i.e. Discovery IMO. John de Lancie is brilliant as Q as he injects comedy into a show that rarely sees it exceeding the tribbles ep. As Cassie said, you actually begin to like the obnoxious egotistical Q when he is stripped of his power ... literally naked to make the metaphor in the opening scene.

Seeing "Sarek" on the list furthers my dismay over the lack of TOS episodes viewed. Especially, Journey to Babel since that episode introduce the character to the Star Trek universe. I don't understand it.

Best of both world part Juan and deux are excellent and no spoilers but there is no way you could predict what's going to happen, but as a newfound trekker, I know you'll like them a lot, and they will in the future set up the TNG best film...First Contact.

I wonder if Cassie should watch Deep Space 9 at some point too. The reason I say that is because Wharf and Chief O'Brien, not that Cassie has seen much of him in TNG, do join that crew there. It is also a different spin on a Star Trek because it is based on Space Station instead with some very unique characters.

I always found it very disturbing when Dr. Crusher struck Wesley in the “Sarek” episode. She did it all wrong. First, close the fist. Second, rotate from the hips. Power comes from the legs up thru the core. That said, it was a good start. People should’ve hit Wesley much more often.

Glad to see on youtube for your scifi ( ST/ Xmen/ Stargate) viewings seem to be be popular. Trek is a popular franchise and for such a ( relatively) old series, still brings in the viewership and fanbase. Nice touch on the redshirt Captain Cassie.
