X2 (2003) - Full Reaction

Holy moly, X2 did NOT let up! It felt like there were three movies happening at once with all the different groups and their plans. We were on the edge of our seat trying to keep up haha! Magneto is still up to his old tricks... but Stryker as the villain was a nice surprise. And using the kids like that? So messed up!!

X2 (2003) - Full Reaction

Comments

Hold up.. "mythical like a dinosaur" ...?

Alex Lee

ah bro. That was the delicious complexity of the X-Men. Magneto was not evil... he was Chaotic Neutral; whereas Charles Xavier was Lawful Good. IMHO.

Carlos Stevens

Ok who disagrees??? If you see a wolverine IRL, it's kinda like when the Fellowship Of The Rings were in Moria... with Gandalf... and Gandalf was like... "swords are of no use here.... RUN!!!"

Carlos Stevens

ROFLMAO... Back story of Xavier and Magnito... Too Much foreshadoing.. And yes A wolverine is a real animal... kinda like a badger... but much much much more meaner. Even bears won't mess with a wolverine. If you see a wolverine IRL... RUNNN RUNNN... RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!

Carlos Stevens

Um... Yeah... Jean Gray was that powerful. Scary powerful. and no... she ain't dead.

Carlos Stevens

Amendmentiuenum ... A slightly more powerful form of Vibranium... Just sayin'

Carlos Stevens

Um no... Scott didn't go evil...Except He did. Jean went really really REALY evil. Like Universe Destroying Level Of Evil. But... God Bless Her... she redeemed herself in the end.

Carlos Stevens

um... Striker's son is probably the most powerful mutant ever. Or was it Xavier's son??? Yeah nevermind... It was Xavier's and Moria's son.

Carlos Stevens

Ok Yeah... You picked it up... Mystique is Nightcrawler's mother. Now you know. Too much blue.

Carlos Stevens

Um... Professor Xavier cannot stop time... But he can stop minds. So, did you notice the mutant who wasn't frozen??? That was a very very young Dazzler.

Carlos Stevens

So.. (as I watch this the same day I say your previous movie reaction)... My favorite X-Man character was always Nightcrawler. They did such a great job with him in this movie, but he was so much more a main character in the comics.

Carlos Stevens

The reaction to Wolverine vs. Lady Deathstrike is incredible. Especially knowing the speed of the "knife-like" attacks increases as the fight goes on

Raymond Terry

Agree. But it's pretty clear the studios wanted to promote Hugh Jackman. Can't really blame them. He gave a hell of a performance throughout.

Chris Thom

I think they just need to get to know the characters and like at least some of them. Then the rest comes easily.

Chris Thom

Never read the comics but he seemed really overpowered in the films. Felt like he needed to go just to make things fair.

Chris Thom

I believe it's Professor Magnum. Or Helmut Guy.

Chris Thom

True. But Origins is somewhat skippable if she only has so much time to devote to these.

Chris Thom

Only the Tasmanian Devil knows.

Chris Thom

Curious if she did any of her own stunts in these movies. She definitely nailed the look of her.

Chris Thom

So cool to see the mutants team up and organize and utilize everyone's strengths and weaknesses to overcome a challenge. It's like a math problem that needs to be solved. And they all seem very real with real life baggage and concerns. Still think this is a high point in the genre. Does the group team up thing as good as, if not better, than The Avengers. Massive props to Hugh Jackman for making making Wolverine a legendary character. And Patrick Stewart of course. Casting Department nailed it.

Chris Thom

This was my first time watching this one and I'd say it was about as good as the first. You guys made it really fun though. The conversation about wolverines at the end was hilarious. And the wolverine fight was fun to watch-mostly cuz of you guys though. I wasn't expecting a jump scare but I'll take it. Nightcrawler seemed cool, I hope he's in more.

My_Cousin_Mose

Wolverines are the largest members of the weasel family. They are generally the size of a medium-sized dog, between 30 and 55 pounds. You all had me laughing. Great Reaction. RIP Jean Grey

Eddie Perkins

In the comics, Kitty Pryde / Shadowcat, the "girl who walks through walls," was part of the X-Men before Rogue joined. Alas, they didn't give her much of a role in the movies. We really didn't see much of her prior to "Days of Future Past."

Stephen Dias

Great movie. Great Reaction ladies. The Deadpool movies are more stand alone and not part of the X-Men series. Two X-Men make an appearance but they are not X-Men movies. You can watch them. They are fun movies. But, they are not as serious. They are a good laugh.

Rick Williams

If Halle Berry told me she had faith in me, oh the things I could accomplish. Man, the amount you guys reference spy kids and I still haven't watched it, basically "I feel shame" (2 points if you get that reference). I'm going to sit down with that one soon. Oh and another Patrick Stewart movie you would like is Conspiracy Theory with Mel and Julia. I can neither confirm nor deny Mr. Stewarts tenderness in this film.

Erik Daniel

I'm sure others have mentioned this. Prof. Xavier can't freeze time. He can just control people's minds so they "freeze"

Neill Shaughness

"I would love that power. So much." Halle Berry is beautiful. Aaron Stanford who is Pyro is also James Cole in the 12 Monkeys TV series (2015-2018) (RT=89%, IMDb=7.7) based on the movie of the same name.

Clay F

I think you have to put RDJ ahead of Jackman as RDJ looks just like Tony Stark from the comics. Not that I’d change the Jackman casting by any means. Honestly, I think the MCU nailed their casting throughout the first 3 phases.

Cole Jennett

Have you sought professional help?

Just Plain Bob

Unpopular opinion- Brandon Routh was better than Christopher Reeve.

Mike Lemon

@AboveAverageDave: FOX had plans to make a Gambit movie under the X-Men Origins name, but X-Men Last Stand and Wolverine Origins were so poorly received, they cancelled their plans and went back to the X-Men team movie well with First Class. And it worked. The problem with a Gambit movie is that the character works best as the rakishly charming man of mystery, like a Cajun James Bond, who plays off the other X-Men. When he's solo, like in Wolverine Origins, Gambit is just a flamboyantly selfish grifter. Even as an anti-hero, it doesn't really work. And an origin movie would presumably involve the Thieves Guild vs. the Assassins Guild, which is a relatively low-stakes conflict for a superhero movie. The worst problem is that now Disney owns the X-Men, I don't think they'll ever do a '90s X-Men comics accurate portrayal of Gambit -- even the X-Men '97 version was kinda neutered. It's far more likely that Rogue or Storm or even Jubilee will get a solo movie before Gambit. IF a Rogue solo movie involved her absorbing Carol Danvers' Captain Marvel powers so that Rogue was the '90s X-Men comics' authentic version with super strength, flight, and invulnerability, I'm fully on board with that!

Rod Reavern

"[Shogun] sticking close to the book" - You need to read the book again. It isn't even close.

Mike Lemon

Its great to seeing the two of you reacting when you don’t know what the image in the water was at the end. Also really love that your enjoying the movie’s so far. I’m also looking forward to what you think of the next one as it’s not loved by the fans. I can understand why but I’ve always found it to be an ok movie yes it’s definitely not one of the best but I think it’s still watchable. But Patrick & Ian where perfect for Charles and Eric, They are also two of my favourite actors and both started acting in theatre productions. To anyone that’s interested there’s a brilliant interview on YouTube with them both telling some brilliant & sometimes funny stories about when they where younger and how they started to their current Hollywood roles. they talk about their great friendship and how they still act in the theatre. Here’s the link https://youtu.be/mmcdkb2CcdE?si=ihGb1ytrYCDdc65P

Dean Holt

I need to check Shogun - and if a Rogue/Gambit movie happened (but done right) I’d be singing hallelujah. Literally these two have been slept on. I have the comic of X-Men #24 September 1993 Gambit/Rogue first kiss cover which a buddy of mine gave for my bday bc he knows I’m obsessed with these two. Anyway - Enjoy … happy watching, Dave!

Rose

Yes - Iconic AND a fan favorite. No idea why they never gave him more than a cursory (and very poor) appearance in the Wolverine origin movie. If they decide to do some standalones - a la Avengers - as a lead-up to the new X-Men movies (or between each of them), a Gambit movie, or Gambit and Rogue film, would be a great place to start. Diving into X-Men 97 soon. Completely obsessed with Shõgun right now (sticking close to the book, except for Blackthorn, who was supposed to look like a Viking with blonde hair and blue eyes; otherwise, Anna Sawai (owns the screen whenever she's on it) Cosmo Jarvis, Tadanobu Asnao and Hiroyuki Sanada are all great). Looking forward to the finish of that before I slide into my next series.

Above Average Dave

“The name’s Gambit… Remember it.” 💜 Remy LeBleau. X-Men 97 - Ep. 5 broke me. So epic and why he’s so iconic … unfortunate the X-Men movies didn’t capitalize on him.

Rose

General Bratchenko: What is a "Wolverine"? Colonel Ernesto Bella: A small animal, like a badger, but terribly ferocious. It is also the name of the local sports collective. General Bratchenko: They're beasts, Ernesto. You must kill every one of them eventually. It's the same as Afghanistan. They'll never stop.

Larry Darrell

Also, the reason Jason wasn't affected by Charles' concentration is because he was safe inside Cerebro with Charles.

Stick Figure Studios

Yup, that was my comment after X-Men !

pinkdino99

😂😂😂

Dan M

it really is part of the X-Men journey - especially with this new one coming out this Summer

Walter

You must play your own copy of the movie. It's available to stream at Disney+. See the link in the description above: "Find your own copy to follow along with." She can't show the movie because that would be a copyright violation. The blurred inset video w/timer is for syncing your copy of the movie with her reaction.

Clay F

Actually, given the preponderance of evidence of human behavior throughout history (such as the sheer number of Germans who turned in their friends and even family to the Gestapo just for having "Jewish blood" in them), it's not illogical at all. Ronny's fear/hatred of mutants is unfortunately a totally believable motivation for calling the cops when he discovers Bobby is one. Sadly the most plausible part of the story. :-(

Stick Figure Studios

Yes.

Stick Figure Studios

Please rewatch the Deadpool movies, Cassie.

Richard Maurer

Also otters, badgers, mink, sables, martins, fishers, and of course, grisons.

Richard Maurer

Why can see full movie ???

AG

Oh My Stars and Garters! Can't believe I missed that.

LittleGalaxyBoy

“Slippy… Slappy… Swammi”

Larry Darrell

There’s a Halle Berry and a Halle Bailey. So it’s easy to say Hailey Berry Bailey or Bailey Harry or Harry Bailey or Harry and the Hendersons, I get it 🤪

Ace Degenerate

I noticed that too. I wonder if Cassie will recognize Bill Duke (Mac from Predator) in X-Men 3

Ace Degenerate

In the comics Mystique is also Rouges adoptive mother

Ace Degenerate

Wow, today I learned it’s a real lake 🤯

Ace Degenerate

Butchered the name lol

Eric Wallace

Halle 😇

Ace Degenerate

Not only that, but they messed up Cyclops in Every 👏 Single 👏 Movie 👏 he appears in. In my opinion, in the classic representation of the X-Men, Professor X may be the heart and soul of the team but Cyclops is the leader. He’s the guy. But in these movies he goes from being almost a background character to non existent. It’s such a shame because I do think that James Marsden fits the part 100%, he’s just squandered.

Ace Degenerate

Thanks for a super cool reaction! A tiny bit of trivia/gossip: Hugh Jackman also didn't know that the wolverine was a real animal. He thought he was playing a wolf xD He even did 2 weeks of research on wolves. From Vanity Fair: While on the set of 2000’s X-Men, director Bryan Singer noticed something was not right: “He said, ‘Are you sort of walking funny, what’s going on?’ And I said, ‘I’ve been doing this thing with wolves,’ and he goes, ‘You know you’re not a wolf, right?‘” “I said, ‘Well, there’s no such thing as a wolverine,‘” Jackman said, erroneously. He was instructed to “go to the zoo, dude.”

Sindre Kristiansen

I know, I was kidding

Kevin Charley

Days of Future Past is the best one.

Joe Mallard

The blonde woman in the bar scene is Rebecca Romijn without the blue Mystique body paint. The scientist on the TV in the bar scene was Dr. Hank McCoy.

JAKH

A wolverine is a mustelid, related to weasels, ferrets, minks, martens, otters, and badgers. About 2 feet long, they are territorial and will attack black bears and brown/grizzly bears. P.S. Wolverine, Sabertooth, and Deadpool are all Canadian.

JAKH

And formerly widespread in the upper Midwest states of Michigan and Wisconsin. The Wolverine is the mascot of the University of Michigan, and Cassie saw it as the high school mascot in "Red Dawn".

JAKH

for those not into comics: Wolverine is 5 FOOT 3 INCHES in the comic. It's why he gets called Runt or Pipsqueak by his main rivals like Sabertooth. The guy who was actually 6'3" in the comics was Cyclops (same height as Hugh Jackman). Due to his ferocious attacks BUT SMALL in stature he was named after Wolverines. Also for Cassie and Carly the Terminator kid in the school was 'Colossus' (which Cassie you saw in both Deadpool movies)

Chuck M

Are the Wolverine movies part of the X-MEN series reactions??? Just curious.

Shawn Kildal

The 3 greatest superhero casting IMO: 1) Christopher Reeve as Superman, 2) Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine and 3) Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man

Shawn Kildal

Great reaction,.... but both of you claim to be Canadians and DON'T know about wolverines? the largest of the weasel family, and one of the most aggressive - it can scare off wolves and bears from prey, and kill a moose by itself in the right circumstances. I first learned about wolverines as a kid living in England, but animals have always had a fascination for me anyway,... Great insights from both of you to pick up on some of the story lines,.... And as for Jean Grey, she has a another name in the comics,... which at the end in the lake you could see her "other" form,... won't say more than that,...

ENC SW DV Rush

Ian McKellen starring as Magnum…Magnot…Magneto 😂

Dan M

You know things were getting real exciting when Cassie started power eating her M & M’s during the climax

Dan M

Just finished watching along with you and Carly…and I absolutely adore you guys! No…there was no post credit scene in this movie, but you and Carly provided one of the best post reactions scenes I have seen to date with your quest to determine if a wolverine is real or fantasy 😂😂😂 The anticipation is growing fast in both of you to learn more about this universe, especially with what happened in the past. You both asked some really good questions throughout the reaction and at the end…all of which will be answered as you move forward in the series. If you have a chance go back and watch the final scene of the movie and watch the water closely…that’s all I’ll say. By the way, did anyone notice what appeared to be claw marks on the headboard behind Cassie’s left ear? 🤔 Can’t wait for X3: The Last Stand

Dan M

I love wolverines. You gotta love an animal that small that can make a bear or timber wolf back down.

Ben Livingstone

"The wolverine is found primarily in remote reaches of the Northern boreal forests and subarctic and alpine tundra of the Northern Hemisphere, with the greatest numbers in Northern Canada, the U.S. state of Alaska, the mainland Nordic countries of Europe, and throughout western Russia and Siberia."

Story Archer

Agreed. This was my biggest gripe, throughout. Then Rogue… Then Colossus. That being said, I still liked the movies.

Larry Darrell

My two complaints is they managed to screw up The Phoenix Saga - one of the greatest stories in comics - not once but TWICE... and that they based the entire franchise around an utterly unrecognizable alt version of Mystique.

Story Archer

Seriously - how do you screw up The Phoenix Saga not once but TWICE??? One of the greatest stories in comics history reduced bait-and-switch side stories...

Story Archer

I really enjoyed the outro on this one. Can't wait for the next reaction. I'm really enjoying watching these movies again after so long.

Luke Godfrey

Btw, X-Men 3 *does* have a post credit scene. Make sure you watch that when you get to it.

Cody Nelson

I wouldn't feel too bad about not knowing what a wolverine is (even though they are native to Canada lol), Hugh Jackman went to the audition thinking it was a type of mythical wolf/man hybrid, and admitted he even studied wolves a bit thinking he was prepping for the role.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Cyclops kinda gets done dirty throughout. I hear he’s getting a better deal in the new X-Men ‘97 series though.

Larry Darrell

Also, they are related to Weasels and Ferrets

Jack Mingle

The stabbing real fast even got to Cassie. That might of been their Best Fight Reaction. There was even a jump scare.

Larry Darrell

The Manchurian Candidate (1962) Seven Days in May (1964) The Parallax View (1974) Three Days of the Condor (1975) Marathon Man (1976)

Larry Darrell

I hope they get to see James, Richard & one of the Hardy Boys together one day.

Larry Darrell

Ditto on Colossus. I wasn’t super into Comics or the X-Men, but He was my favorite as a kid, and bummed me a little, that he basically had just a cameo.

Larry Darrell

Wolverine: 1. a heavily built short-legged carnivorous mammal with a shaggy dark coat and a bushy tail, native to the tundra and forests of arctic and subarctic regions. 2. a native or inhabitant of Michigan. 3. an American teenager hiding in the mountains of Soviet-occupied Colorado, who engages in guerrilla warfare against troops of Cuba, Nicaragua and the Soviet Union whom have invaded the United States, during World War III.

Larry Darrell

@Dave - thx BFF 😂

Rose

Ians the bomb

Eric Wallace

Also, "Who has a crush on Hailey Barry?" "I Do" I died laughing

Eric Wallace

Alkali Lake is around the Williams Lake area, in BC

JPDotCom23

Yeah. I feel like if we were given proper time to watch them fall in love, Scott and Jean could've been much more likeable, and their love story in these film more worth caring about. Imagine if they had a relationship akin to Steve and Peggy in the MCU. Imagine if we cared that much about them both as a couple and more individually in this movie series. We also saw Scott be a leader consistently in battle in the animated series, yet in this he's just Jean's boyfriend who shoots lazer eyes.

YodatheHobbit

Despite what some are saying, x3 and wolverine origins are both worth watching. They'll make Logan even more impactful and they'll give you the full scope.

Eric Wallace

Bobby's brother Ronny: "MY BROTHER'S TOO WEIRD! I'M GONNA CALL THE COPS! DUUUR!" Honestly one of the most illogical plot points. 😂 Also to give you some heads up, while this movie doesn't have an end credits scene, be aware that X-Men 3 has quite an important one.

YodatheHobbit

Also Charles doesn’t freeze time. He kind of pauses all higher brain function and keeps people paused. So they keep breathing but just don’t remember what happened. But the world keeps moving. It’s not time that’s affected.

djKENTO

Here’s a fun fact for ya Cassie… In the comics the X-Men are part of the larger Marvel universe, Black Panther and Storm were childhood sweethearts and rekindle their romance, fall in love and get married. She becomes the Queen of Wakanda. It’s pretty awesome.

djKENTO

I didn’t know that! What a great piece of movie info! I knew Ian McKellan was gay, but I didn’t know he had a hand in developing that scene. Bravo Ian!

Dan M

They are planning on watching all of them.

Stick Figure Studios

Great reaction! Remember Red Dawn when they painted 'Wolverines' on everything?

Brian's Dog

This one didn't have an end credit scene, but definitely keep checking, because some of them do. Also, tune in next time for Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom with Cassie and Carly! Yes, wolverines are real animals that are famous for their ferocity.

BibbitduBois

The scenes where Bobby comes out to his parents as a mutant, Ian Macallan (magneto/Gandalf) helped write. He based it largely on his own experience coming out as gay to his own family.

Eric Wallace

Cassie: with the timeline of Xmen/mutant related movies becoming complicated after Xmen 3, here's the list of their release order (as you had mentioned planning to watch in release order), as well as notes for which ones have extra scenes during or after credits: 1. X-Men (2000) 2. X2: X-Men United (2003) 3. X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) *REQUIRED post-credits scene* 4. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) *post-credits scene* 5. X-Men: First Class (2011) 6. The Wolverine (2013) *REQUIRED post-credits scene* 7. X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) *post-credits scene* 8. Deadpool (2016) *post-credits scene* 8. X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) *post-credits scene* 10. Logan (2017) 11. Deadpool 2 (2018) *post-credits scene & good point to stop* 12. X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019) 13. The New Mutants (2020) 14. Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) *probably will be one*

Christopher B.

I was so happy when you made it past "blue girl" and "yellow eyes" for Mystique...lol. I get it...it's a lot to learn.

Tater

I love these X-Men movies, but my one complaint is they did Scott dirty. Singer didn't even try to make him likable

Neill Shaughness

You ladies want backstories do ya, well we have some movies for you.

Ryan Geiger

Is the wolverine real or mythical…like dinosaurs? 😂

Just Plain Bob

Also don't bother with the third one

Kevin Charley

Very fun! All your questions will eventually be answered if you stick with the series

Scott Macaulay

The things that happened to Jean were major elements of the plot. The creative team wanted to keep it a secret and went to huge lengths to do so. They even kept it from actress Famke Janssen, until halfway through production of the movie.

Tom Furze

Love this one. Night crawler opening is fantastic. You see and hear mystique when she is trying to seduce the security guard in the bathroom. No blue naked makeup. The Wolverine is real and they live in northern Alberta as well as Banff National park. I've seen a taxidermied one in Banff. The claws can take down a moose!

Canadianant

Great reaction, ladies! Cassie, you did hear Mystique talk in the helicopter as she kicked the senator repeatedly in the face in the first movie! "People like you made me afraid to go to school as a child."

Philip Alan

Nerd. Like me! :) Ha!

Philip Alan

The Wolverine is known for it's ferocity and strength out of proportion to its small size. The name makes half sense for the movies as Logan is indeed ferocious but Hugh Jackman is 6 ft 3 in towering over most of the characters. In the comics Logan is actually 5 ft 3 in very much on the smaller side. So you can see why the name refers to his small height, ferocity and strength once you realise the character is short in the comics. Most of the male Marvel characters tower over Wolverine so seeing a 5 ft 3 in Wolverine going up against someone like Hulk is just the extra impressive. Hugh Jackman is actually taller than Chris Evan's who is 6 ft so Wolverine in the films is taller than Captain America. Steve of course towers over Logan in the comics. Jackman is perfect casting for Wolverine but I hope they cast someone on the shorter side for the next Wolverine, maybe not 5 ft 3 in but in the 5 ft 5 in range. I know there's fan castings for Daniel Radcliffe (5 ft 5 in) to play Wolverine and I think he'd nail the character after growing some facial hair.

LittleGalaxyBoy

This was so easily the best ever superhero movie when it came out and still stands very well regarded to this day. Again there is a bunch that is complete abstraction from the source material (Mystique is actually Nightcrawler's mother.... and he's supposed to be fluffy), but the core of the movie and the chemistry between its stars remains solid. And this is as good as it got until First Class. X3 is an absolute disaster from plot to execution. And the Wolverine Origin is as bad if not worse (even Ryan Reynolds lampoons how bad in Deadpool 2).

pinkdino99

Heads up- the third one has an after credits scene.

Mike Lemon

One little thing- *Jean* wasn't more powerful than she thought, however... On another note, remember this wasn't much after the X-men animated series, the *fire* in Jeans eyes and the *bird* image on the water had many of us very excited for the third movie. It could have been cosmic, but it wasn't.

Mike Lemon

I noticed that starting with their first Mission Impossible reaction. Carly is not to be underestimated.

Robin T

I was about to explain what a Wolverine is but you beat me too it Cassie lol. They became extinct in the UK 8,000 years ago.

ROBERT CLARK

Definitely Rogue Cut all the way!

ROBERT CLARK

Wolverine is a real animal lol

MatthewBrown74m

Fun fact related to the outro: Wolverine has been translated in the Hungarian dub and subtitle to 'Farkas' (Wolf) because the studio felt people wouldn't have any idea what a 'rozsomák' (wolverine) is. They were kind of right in that regard. But it really angered the few fans who read the comics where they have used his properly translated name.

Gábor Árki

Ahhhh...X2. Before the MCU was a thing, this was, for me, the best of the best of the Marvel movies--this, and Spider-Man 2. It's just first rate all-around. A little annoyed that Cyclops disappears for most of the movie--he was always my favorite from the comics--but the movie's so damn good, I kind of forget he's gone. And also, NIghtcrawler!

Steve Mercier

When you get to Days of the Future Past, please watch the rogue edit instead of the theatrical version.

Yaisu

Rose knows! (and is always right!) 😁😁😁

Above Average Dave

Underrated - well, as underrated as a complete "inside baseball" kind of movie can be, CHASING AMY is a masterpiece, though.

Above Average Dave

I remember going to see this in theatres. It’s a Fun movie can’t wait to watch it with ya

Alex Gorell

I appreciate Cassie and Carly watching the first two X-Men movies so close together. They said they'd be watching in release order, which means "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" are next. I expect they'll like them well enough but have similar opinions as fans that the next two aren't as good as the first two, to put it GENTLY. After those bumps in the road, things get back on track with "X-Men: First Class", which is the movie that Jennifer Lawrence portrays a younger Mystique. "First Class" is very good but the next movie, "Days of Future Past" is the best X-Men team movie. I can't wait to watch that again with Cassie and Carly's reaction!

Rod Reavern

Xavier can't freeze time, rather he just uses his mind control powers to make everyone still. You'll notice that the tv was still playing and you can even hear a voice on the phone of one of the frozen people saying "Hello? Are you there?" I'm really impressed Cassie with how fast you picked up on the clues and figured things out before they were revealed! Your skills are complete. Indeed you are powerful as the emperor has foreseen.

Cody Nelson

I think she has made references to it, so I think she has seen it.

Mike LL

Wolverines are one of my favorite animals. Indigenous to Alaska, Northern Canada and Montana. I think they might be the most ferocious animal in the world next to the honey badger. They are carnivors and are capable of taking down prey much bigger than them. If other predators like wolves, bears, and mountain lions encounter a wolverine, it never ends well. They don't back down and will scratch, claw, and bite with a fury (There are YouTube videos).

Zane From Canada

Bit sad, but not overly surprised that they didn’t ID Xenia Onatopp and Boris Grishenkov from 007 Goldeneye though

Gunnar Rea

Wolverines are like large ferocious badgers (30-50 pounds) - - so, much smaller than bears. Also, smaller than wolves. The Xavier-Magneto relationship being like Dumbledore-Grindelwald is pretty acurate. It's actual a typical comic book trope where the hero and villain were once close friends.

D. T. Nelson

probably a little bit out there but V For Vendetta

rakesh

Fantastic reaction to a great movie! And we might have discovered Carly's breaking point in this movie, her kryptonite: it's a knife fight! 😂😂😂

Mike LL

In the comics, Wolverine is short (5'3") which is why he is named after a small, ferocious creature with sharp claws. Hugh Jackman is one whole foot taller than the comics character. https://static1.srcdn.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/giant-size-x-men-jean-grey-cyclops-wolverine-horizontal.jpg

DWeber

Carly well done for noticing Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler!

ROBERT CLARK

Dave - 💯 yes! X2 ramped it up and First Class and Days of Future Past took it next level, which I think all three heavily influenced future superhero movies.

Rose

I'm impressed at how quickly Carly picks up on political thriller plots. Her picking out that Stryker was behind the president's attack just from the scar on nightcrawler was impressive. I'm trying to think of some fast paced political thrillers that would be fun to see her watch.

Robert Haynes

Haha!!!

ROBERT CLARK

Yes. I have been mentioning this every chance I get. Watch the third one all the way through the end credits. I literally announced that to the people waiting in line for the next showing as I was emerging from the screening when I saw it in the theater.

Stick Figure Studios

I actually thought the same thing in the theater (not knowing what was coming).

Stick Figure Studios

Indeed.

Stick Figure Studios

Nope. Poor advice. Do the whole thing, Cassie. The good, The bad and the ugly.

Stick Figure Studios

I skipped the theatrical run of the first X-MEN because I never read those comics when I was a kid (aside from the odd Wolverine story here and there) and I never watched the '90s cartoon, so I had no interest in it. When I caught it on home video, I loved it, so this was the first X-Men movie I saw in the theater and for my money it's probably the best of the whole franchise (not including LOGAN which is kind of its own thing as you'll see when you get to it). The next one is where the series starts to go a bit awry.

Stick Figure Studios

Captain Picard vs Gandalf Round 2

John Sullivan

It's hilarious to see girls who loved rom-coms engrossed in Action and Sci-Fi movies. This is some sort of mutant phenomena.

rakesh

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

rakesh

feel like I did hear something about that, but don’t recall the details or why it didn’t get made

JL_83

I think this is one of the rare exceptions where the sequel surpasses the original. When you both get to X-Men: The Last Stand be sure to watch until the very end of the credits!!!

ROBERT CLARK

Wolverines are like big angry badgers.

Wasn't there originally a script written for a Nightcrawler origin/spin off/stand alone film which got scraped?

ROBERT CLARK

X2 (2003) Based on: This film is based on one of my favourite X-Men stories called X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills a graphic novel published in 1982. In this story Professor X like the film is tricked/forced into killing all mutants after being captured by Stryker and stuck into a machine. The X-Men then team up with Magneto to save Charles an element also featured in the film. For X2 they also mixed God Loves, Man Kills with the Origin of Wolverine, combining these two together and placing William as the one behind these experiments. The movies for the most part are loosely based on the stories and characters from the comics but not straight one-for-one adaptions. Wolverine is great but looking back it's crazy how much develop he got compared to everyone else. ------------------------------------------------------------------ William Stryker: William Stryker himself made his first appearance in X-Men: God Loves, Man Kills (1982). In the comics he's actually a Reverend, religious fanatic, and anti-Mutant televangelist who has zero connections to Wolverine in the comics or Experimentations of Mutants. He's a Preacher with a large following of Anti Mutant's civilians and Anti Mutant Paramilitary groups, William himself has a Military background in the comics but like I mentioned he has no real connection to the experiments behind Wolverine, idea of Stryker being the one behind the experimentation on Logan and Mutants in general was created for this film. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Nightcrawler: Nightcrawler is such an amazing character introduced in Giant Sized X-Men #1 (1975) a comic that brought the X-Men back after a 5 years hiatus. This comic also introduced Storm, Wolverine, Banshee, Colossus, and Thunderbird as a new generation of X-Men. I fell in love with Nightcrawler (Along with his mother and adopted sister) from the X-Men Animated Series so I was so happy to see him in this film. Nightcrawlers Mother? Nightcrawlers mother in the comics is actually Mystique but this aspect of his character is never explored in these movies. For the movies I don't think it's even canonical that Mystique is the mother of Nightcrawler so don't take this as being true for the movies. Rogue is Nightcrawlers Sister? Rogue is actually Nightcrawlers non biological sister in the comics and Animated Series. She was raised and mentored by Mystique during her time under a new identity, Rogue saw her as mother figure but had no idea it was actually Mystique until later. But this is not the case for the movies with how Rogues movie origin is very differant to the comics, Rogue has zero connection to Mystique in these films or any connections to Magneto beyond being captured by him in the first film. Also because of legal rights Rogue as a character was also nerfed pretty hard as well. A big part of her early years in the comics before she joined the X-Men was how she stole Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers, later known as Captain Marvel) powers giving Rogue superhuman strength, speed, stamina, agility, reflexes, and the ability to fly. Because Fox only had the rights to the X-Men they couldn't use Ms. Marvel so this story was never featured in the movies. Rogue is still a fun character in the films but power wise she's nothing compared to her comic and Animated Series counterpart. If comic or Animated Series Rogue showed up in Infinity War (2018) Thano's would've been defeated in seconds, comic/Animated Series Storm could've wiped the floor clean of Thanos as well. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Newly introduced X-Men: Colossus & Pyro: The Mutant you referred to as the Terminator is Colossus a Russian mutant introduced in Giant-Size X-Men #1 alongside Storm and Wolverine. There's also the young Pyro, St. John Allerdyce who first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #141 (1981) a member of Brotherhood of Mutants who in this film goes with Magneto at the end hinting towards his role in future films. Jubilee: We do see Jubilation (Jubilee) Lee as well the young Asian mutant with a very colourful blue coat over a pink shirt. She first appeared in the Uncanny X-Men #244 (1989) and plays a big part in the Generation X spin off comics, Pretty much a side X-Men team consisted of teenage mutants. Jubilee was also an important character in the X-Men Animated Series (1994) being the main focus of the first episode and story arc so alot of 1990s fans grew up with Jubilee as a main character who as of 2024 is also heavily featured in X-Men 97 and is one of my personal favourite characters. Sad that she never got the chance to shine in the films beyond being a background cameo. Lady Deathstrike: Lady Deathstrike, Yuriko Oyama the Asian woman we see with the adamantium nails. She first appeared as Yuriko Oyama in Daredevil #197 (1983) and later as Lady Deathstrike in Alpha Flight #33 (1986). Alpha Flight is Canada's answer to The Avengers made up of Canadian superhero's with Wolverine actually being a former member in the comics. I'm pretty sure Fox didn't own the rights to Alpha Flight as they don't fall under the X-Men IP so that's why the team is never mentioned in the X-Men movies. As you can see from alot of these characters they do have connections beyond the X-Men comics showcasing the greater marvel universe. Again legally everything was divided up between studios so this couldn't happen in the movies during the 2000s and 2010s but now with Marvel owning the rights to X-Men they are free to go whatever they want.

I’m listening to the intro in the car on the way to Dallas and I love it already. Bad guy is… “Magnot?” (I got a little coffee on my collar now) you girls crack me up - can’t wait to get home and watch this!

Ike

There's some sly ways the ending references another movie you've seen that I want to talk about, but it's a potential spoiler so I'll wait until the next one ;)

"No Wolverine" (Mallrats 1995) https://youtu.be/kbmBx_ltmJA?feature=shared

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

That opening scene was definitely the best X-Men thing I'd seen on film until First Class came out(First Class is the only X-Men movie I at least "like" that doesn't have "Logan" or "Deadpool" in its title).

sarCC

The introduction of Nightcrawler was a great move. I'm kind of gutted that Colossus wasnt part of the main team as he was in the comics. Although he does have his moments in the deadpool series. His brief armour up scene was dope. Yeah he kinda does look like the T2!. No not the T100 calc 🤣 Good call by Carly also, that was floop from Spy Kids and also Boris in Goldeneye

rakesh

I agree. Just like with the Star Trek movie series, there are some movies that are disappointing, but they should still be seen, especially to fully appreciate the really good movies and maybe not miss any important bits of info.

Dan M

Using the kids is sadly somewhat of a theme throughout the series.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

No no, gotta get the full experience

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Wolverine becomes more of a Wolverine!

Bill Maurer

Ok, you definitely need to add the TV show Heroes to the list. I have a sneaking suspicion you'd love it.

aarswft

Agreed I love all three of them too, especially Days of Future Past it has everything you need from a Action adventure & comic book movie.

Dean Holt

oh absolutely. it's not even close.

Matt Rose

This one was quite the rush, had only one real gripe: after the opening scene (which is still fantastic to this day) thought they should’ve done more with the Nightcrawler character…but like I said only a minor gripe and I got over it fairly quickly

JL_83

My Fave from this original trilogy!

Wes

Mmmm that’s tonight’s viewing sorted thanks Cassie. This one First Class and Days of Future Past are my favourite X-men films.

Dean Holt

This is the peak of the series until we get to Logan which is very different from the rest. Glad you guys enjoyed it, this set the bar for Marvel movies until Spiderman 2 met it and arguably surpassed it in 2004.

KTVindicare

Next to DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, this is probably my favorite X-Men movie. Really gets this group right (as does FIRST CLASS).

Above Average Dave

"Got any beer?" "This is a school." "So that's a no?" Sometimes it's the short, sweet, and simple lines that are the funniest. 😄

Zane From Canada

Now jump straight to X-Men First Class.

nick bell

yeah, it's a big leap in quality from the first film to this one.

Matt Rose

Plans for tonight have been made!
