Hey friends, it's a rainy April Monday here. I don't mind a rainy day once in a while, as long as my house is clean. Like if it's rainy and clean it feels cozy, but rainy and messy it feels repressive haha, is that just a me thing? I hope you all had a good weekend. Ours was lots of soccer starting up(did I tell you im coaching 2/3 of my kids teams?) and we assembled the island and played Settlers of Catan with Carly and friends. I was the LORD of Catan the first game, she won the second. Girls Rule and all that!
This week I am actually heading to Charleston South Carolina with Carly and 6 more of my cousins. It is kind of a miracle that this trip is working out and I am so excited! The Carolinas have always been a place I have wanted to visit, and some time away for a quick girls trip will always be chicken noodle for the soul.
This week on POPCORN two polls were just posted. A Sweet 16 Wildcard Poll and a Pollception of what to poll next. I have a problem. I didn't include "animated movies poll" or "foreign movies poll" on Pollception because I already have those both of my Calendar coming up soon. Speaking of coming soon....
This week we have our Movie Madness winner Mr. Hollands Opus, X2 and starting ST Season 3 episodes (the poll winners here) I also have Memphis Belle and True Romance coming soon along with War of the Worlds and these poll winners.....all good things, all good things.
Butter Live will be 4/29 evening
ALSO TRIVIA NIGHT in MAY, just make sure it's on your radar!!
Thank you all for everything!! Always!!
Cassie

2024-04-20 08:01:09 +0000 UTCYes! "Sins of the Father" is the story critical episode folks voted for. "The High Ground" was an OK but throw-away ep.

2024-04-19 06:33:14 +0000 UTCI just noticed a small problem with Star Trek TNG, season 3 episode 12 isn't "Sins of the Father" it is actually "The High Ground." "Sins of the Father" is season 3 episode 17. I don't know about anyone else, but I voted based on the episode title, not the episode number.

2024-04-18 21:22:18 +0000 UTCHave you seen 1988’s The Vanishing (Dutch version)? Words don’t do it justice (w/o spoiling anything) so I absolutely didn’t bother with the American version that followed a few years later.

2024-04-18 01:42:02 +0000 UTC"The Graduate" with Dustin Hoffman. A coming of age 60s landmark that got Hoffman his big break. Great movie. One that both Cassie and Carly would like I think.

2024-04-17 06:08:14 +0000 UTCI think Fievel was the first character that ever made me cry watching a movie. So special and so cute that I named my lil hamster after him. I sang Somewhere Out There with the same off-key passion but I wouldn’t be mad - the other two movies are great.

2024-04-16 21:13:36 +0000 UTCSeeing how it was Jackie Robinson day yesterday where every player wore #42 we should do a African American History poll movies like Detroit (2017), The Hurricane (1999), Malcolm X (1992), Judas and The Black Messiah (2021) , The Great Debaters (2007), Rosewood (1997)
Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)
2024-04-16 18:51:23 +0000 UTCThe Last Unicorn - aww I love that one. The 80s had so many classic animated movies and TV shows. If Cassie hasn’t seen The Land Before Time and American Tail, then I’d like to suggest them for the poll, too.

2024-04-16 13:58:19 +0000 UTCFirst, love the upcoming week of reactions! It's rare that we get a week where I'm looking forward to every single one of them, and I AM looking forward to each and every one of these (even if Offspring isn't one of the STNG reactions--sorry... have trouble letting that go LOL). You'll love South Carolina! I both went to school and to Basic Training in the Army in Columbia, South Carolina, about 100 miles from Charleston. You'll love it. Charleston, as my former roommate loves to mention, is consistently listed as one of the best places to live in all of the United States.

2024-04-16 04:37:16 +0000 UTCI'm sure you the fact that you didn't mention a upcoming Classic Horror poll along with the Foreign and Animated polls was just an oversight, right? In fact, I bet you're planning a month of Classic Horror polls, one each for the 30's, 40's 50's and 60's..........right?
Richard Maurer
2024-04-16 04:30:23 +0000 UTCI'm excited there's gonna be an animated movie poll, and would like to again suggest a couple movies- The Last Unicorn (1982- Jeff Bridges voices a main character by the way) and The Secret of NIMH (1982) Both of these are made from separate production companies that gave Disney some good competition in the 80s and 90s. Have fun on your trip!

2024-04-15 23:31:35 +0000 UTCSeeing X-Men alongside Next Generation reminded me of the Star Trek/X-Men crossover comics during the 1990s. The X-Men met both the original series cast and Next Generation cast, Spock even punched Wolverine in the face. Whole thing was bonkers. It was also just wild seeing Sir Patrick Stewart's Captain Picard in an X-Men comic a few years before Sir Patrick was casted as Charles Xavier in the X-Men movies. There was also a crossover novel where Captain Picard realised he looked exactly like Professor X. This was two years before the X-Men (2000) was even released so I'm not sure if this was making reference to casting rumours at the time or maybe the writer just thought that both characters looked alike.

Carol Rocha
2024-04-15 23:28:58 +0000 UTCHoping to see at least a few of the following on the foreign movies poll: *Battle Royale (the movie that Hunger Games shamelessly ripped off) *Hausu (wonderfully bizarre and creepy haunted house movie, sort of) *Dellamorte Dellamore (aka Cemetery Man - surreal dark fantasy/romance) *Rififi (FANTASTIC French heist movie) *Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (great Scandinavian mystery) *Let The Right One In (modern take on a spooky old fable) *Pulse (as great as the Asian original is, that’s how awful the American remake is) *Eega (Bollywood-adjacent love story) *Night Watch (great Russian fantasy) *Oldboy (the original, not the tepid remake) *Raid: Redemption (fantastic martial arts film) *Rogue (Australian suspense) *Schneider vs Bax (Scandinavian dark comedy/thriller) *In Order of Disappearance (yet another great Scandinavian film) Finally, if you happen to be interested in a really good foreign tv series, I highly recommend the first season of “Epitafios”, a truly superb mystery/police procedural set in South America.

2024-04-15 23:22:31 +0000 UTCAll right. May I have the floor? To be truthful, I was fiercely rooting for "Apocalypse Now" at the homestretch of this March Madness bracket. So when I discovered that she was going to be tackling all the films represented in the Final Four of this tournament, along with creating polls for the lower brackets, I was stunned. Frankly, it shows tremendous commitment and grace on her part to put herself to the task even though she had no reason to do so. Especially with "Apocalypse Now". I know this will be a challenging film for Cassie to watch. It's long and it's not for the faint of heart. That aside, I couldn't be more thrilled that she is tackling this masterpiece. It's a tall pillar in the history of cinema. One of the main reasons I started to watch this channel was to see this sweet woman, who had only loved romances and happy endings, begin to stretch and take in more of what the medium could offer her. Through her eyes we've watched her fall in love with film after film that forced her to shed her preconceptions of what kinds of stories she could handle. It's been so beautiful to see. As long as we keep supporting and challenging her with the proper mixture of films, she will be continuously enriched by the stories and characters she will encounter. I couldn't be more excited and I'll be gladly watching. Godspeed Cassie.

2024-04-15 23:06:26 +0000 UTCThis line up literally makes me feel like a kid the week before Xmas, eagerly anticipating opening up my gifts, saving the best for last (Mr Holland’s Opus!). I can totally relate with you Cassie. I can’t relax and enjoy the day/night unless our house is clean and tidy. I’m a clean freak! Hope you have a great time down in South Carolina. I spent a week in Seabrook Island with friends, and it was one of the best vacations I’ve ever had. Charleston is beautiful.

2024-04-15 22:38:25 +0000 UTCCassie, if Dune 2 is still playing in iMAX it's a must see! Easy in my top ten or top five of all time, no way it was 2 hour & 40 minutes, it could have been 3 hr and 15 minutes and I wouldn't have noticed! I wasn't completely sold on Timothée Chalamet in the first one (compared to the original Dune, not anymore. Star Wars, Terminator 2 & now Dune 2 for me, it's that good !!!

2024-04-15 21:26:15 +0000 UTCAll of the Civil War memorial sites in Charleston are great. Fort Sumter with the ferry ride is very surreal for a Civil War buff. I've been all over the country - all over the world in fact - but my one trip to Charleston is one of my most memorable. Went up to Myrtle Beach and saw the wide open Atlantic for the first time. Amazing trip - I'm quite jealous, truth be told.

2024-04-15 20:55:18 +0000 UTCX2 is legit one of the best comic book movies ever. I think you're really going to like that if you enjoyed the first one. Prepare yourself though, cause X-Men 3 is a huge step down from the first two. It picks up again with X-Men First Class though.

Shawn Kildal
2024-04-15 20:52:15 +0000 UTCI haven't seen True Romance in probably 25 years, but I must have watched it 50+ times back in the 90s. I already had that and Reservoir Dogs basically committed to memory before Pulp Fiction was even released. I'm not totally sure what Cassie is going to think of it though, but I imagine at the very least she'll get a kick out of Brad Pitt as Floyd.

2024-04-15 20:51:20 +0000 UTCCHARLESTON (a.k.a. ChuckTown!)! We go here every year. You and Carly will love — also, one of the greatest foodie cities in the U,S.! KING STREET is where the best shops are (since you're going with the girls), and, if you get a chance, HANK'S SEAFOOD is a cross between white linen 1930s and 40s charm and modern attention to details, as well as massive Seafood Towers! Save room for KAMINSKY'S around the corner on MARKET ST, because ALL. THEY. DO. IS. DESSERT. Also on Market Street is the Open Air Market - 3 blocks of very fun small business humans, and all the t-shirt and tchotkie shops you could ever want. Across the bridge and down the road is Isle of Palms, also fairly amazing, with a tremendous family resort (very beach/golf/tennis friendly) called Wild Dunes. Enjoy the Southern Charm and hospitality!

2024-04-15 20:51:02 +0000 UTCSo will the foreign movies poll be all-inclusive or be further broken down, eg, Polish movies (the Poles Poll), communist movies (the Pol Pot Poll), strange spring ritual movies (the May Pole Poll), or movies that stink (the Polecat Poll)?
2-Can
2024-04-15 20:44:54 +0000 UTCSo if keeping the same format, the Star Trek episodes will be Sins of the Father and Deja Q. Well there is one good episode in there! 😉 If eveyone else can wait for Yesterday's Enterprise, I guess I can too! (Spoiler alert, I CAN"T WAIT!!) Edit: I looked at the poll as to the episodes I can expect this week, but the poll mistakenly lists Sins of the Father as Episode 12, but it actually is episode 17, so we should get Deja Q and Yesterday's Enterprise this week! Yay! I hope Cassie is watching in the right order, she has so far!!! I think X2 is a pretty good movie, But Mr. Holland will be a first time watch for me. For some reason, all I watched in the 90's were action movies, even though I can't seem to stand those movies now! Good to see some animated movie fans and foreign movie fans are about to become happier! It should happen to someone!!! 😏

2024-04-15 20:36:20 +0000 UTCYou're not the only one Cassie. I love a clean house and a rainy day. Get up late, have some coffee eggs, grits, and toast, watch a little MASH on TV Land, then take a nap. Welcome to my life
