Big Trouble In Little China (1986) - Full Reaction

Wwwweeeellllll..... definitely not my favorite. It was a chaos I didn't quite understand. I think they were being intentionally cheesy but it just didn't hit for me. I didn't mind the mullet though!

Big Trouble In Little China (1986) - Full Reaction

Comments

Okay, here’s the thing. I knew going into this reaction Cassie was not going to like it and I was right. And that’s Perfectly Fine! . I personally, enjoyed the hell out of it. Why? Because I’m an 80s kid and it has that cheesy nostalgia I love. Like Cassie said at the end of her reaction, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. Just like Pulp Fiction wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Which on a personal note, is my favorite movie. But listen, it’s okay not to like something. There’s no law that says everyone has to like everything. Please Please I ask all of you on here, Don’t give Cassie such a hard time just because she didn’t like this one. She’s a such a wonderful kind person and doesn’t deserve the hate over this one movie. Hopefully this sinks in with everyone.

Joe M

I'm kidding, Kurt Russell in 'Miracle' was awesome, great movie.

JPDotCom23

You're a Canadian, you're going to watch a movie about US Olympic hockey? There should be a movie about Sydney Crosby and the Golden Goal.

JPDotCom23

Finally got around to watching this. I knew Cassie wouldn't enjoy this one one, but it was a nice trip down memory lane for me. Kim Cattrall was my childhood crush after seeing here in this movie. Of course I'm going to have to watch Mannequin (1987) now, which is hands down her best movie in my opinion. Still hoping gets around to watching it one day. 🤞🏻

Luke Godfrey

I wouldn't say I hate it, but all my friends love this one and I have never understood why.

David Conroy

If someone would have told me Cassie would rank Tucker & Dale vs Evil ahead of The American President I would have never believed it. But it happened. It is impossible to predict but one can speculate to some degree. And your right also about honest reviews. That's so important.

Shawn Kildal

That's 20 minutes more than it deserves. Talk about an overrated film.

Richard Maurer

It's a shame

Richard Maurer

I second Tango and Cash. Stallone and Russell, can't go wrong with that.

Matt Atkinson

So many haters here, and that's fine, It's okay to dislike any film (except LotR - that's NOT okay). But what I don't get is why everyone thinks the fact that Cassie didn't like it was a reason for her not to watch it. First of all, we don't know for sure what movies Cassie will or will not like (300 and Kill Bill, anyone?). Second, and sure a lot of people will disagree, but it's not important to me that Cassie likes every film she watches, even when it's a film I personally like, as for instance BtiLC. All I care about is a honest and interesting reaction, not picking "safe" films I'm sure she'll love. One of my favorite reactions of Cassie's is to The Crow, which is one of my favorites, but clearly not one of hers. But I've watched (and enjoyed) her full reaction once, and the YT edit several times and really enjoyed her reaction. Sorry, but this type reaction is just more entertaining to me than her gushing about some Rom-Com that I care nothing about. Let me put it this way - if I could go back in time, knowing what I know now, I'd still vote for Big Trouble in Little China (and also play the lottery, but that's a separate thing).

Richard Maurer

I'm with you 100%; I just don't get it.

Eddie Perkins

Like you said, everyone has different tastes. So many people love this movie, but I hate it. This is my third time seeing it, and I don't get the attraction. "Tequila Sunrise," "3000 Miles to Graceland," and "Unlawful Entry" are all good, but you have already done all his best movies.

Eddie Perkins

Tango & Cash won't disappoint

Darren G.

I think Big Trouble in Little China gave Cassie and PiB the biggest “WTF” moment. When the Thunder character swelled up to the Popping Point. The look on her face was the best.

Larry Darrell

"What?" "Excuse me?" "Why the blue eye shadow?" "Are you joking me?" "What was that?" "What in the actual H-E-Double?" "Are they under some kind of spell?" "Did they go in the black well of the earth?" "Are we not actually in the real world anymore?" "What the actual hacking heck?" "Is this the magic juice?" "Excuse me?" "What?" "Eye-I-I" I think Cassie had too many questions during, to like his one. "Are you kidding me right now?" "What did I even watch?"

Terry Yelmene

Yes, as Cassie said, not every movie was for everybody. Cassie might not have liked it much, but was it an entertaining reaction? It absolutely was, and that is the main thing!!

MikeLL

I hope Cassie watches and reacts to Miracle before the hockey season is over.

David C. Krapf

I guess Big Trouble in Little China is a movie you either love or hate. There's no in between. I saw this film back in the summer of 1986 when I was 15 years old, right before my sophomore year of high school. I loved it then and I've always loved it! It's my favorite John Carpenter/Kurt Russell movie/collaboration. The interesting thing is this movie did not do well at the box office, and it was absolutely panned by the film critics. However, when it came out on VHS it started to develop a cult following that is still strong to this day. All of my friends who are around my age also love this movie. I only wish that Carly had watched this one with you Cassie. I would love to have seen her reaction as well :)

David C. Krapf

Never been a fan of this.

nick bell

What's more baffling is everyone piping up here saying "I've NEVER liked this movie, harrumph!" as if expecting a pat on the head for having the correct opinion. Or saying anyone who likes this is a moron, as several have said, directly, or indirectly. I don't understand that logic. Pretty sure that our host is someone who judges movie characters by the standard of would she want to be friends with them in real life. And if that's your standard, then a whole lot of movies with complex or morally ambiguous or even obnoxious protagonists aren't going to make the cut. I would get tired of Jack Burton's bluster, too, if I knew him in real life. But movies aren't real life and the rules are different from genre to genre. It's also the reason why I'm not on the verge of tears when someone gets killed off in a movie like SCREAM while I AM upset when someone gets killed off in a movie like SCHINDLER'S LIST. But everyone gets what they want out of movies and there's no "right" way to watch them, I guess.

Patrick Flanagan

Yeah, I'd never seen this before either. It looks like it came out the summer before my senior year of college; there was a lot going on then. I'm a sci-fi/fantasy fan, but I'm with Cassie on this: I just didn't get into this one. Maybe a second viewing would help.

Stephen Dias

Me too... or STARGATE or BREAKDOWN or ESCAPE FROM NY.

Stick Figure Studios

Absolutely. It's flipping the character archetypes. Russell also is doing a deliberate riff on John Wayne for the entire film too.

Matt Rose

I still think "Miracle" would have been a better choice.

Björn Von Knorring

The thing most people who "don't get it" get incorrect is Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) ISN'T the hero. He's the sidekick, the comic relief, if you will. The hero is actually Wang Chi (Dennis Dun).

Miles E Coburn

Just like Jack Burton, you Cassie, were not brought upon this World to, "Get It." Was I the only one who saw similarities between Jack Burton and Cassie. She didn't understand this world or anything that was happening the same as Jack Burton. Both of them Went with the Flow, and kept their Spirits High. I mean, can't you see Cassie laying on top of the wire female jail cell, answering Margo's question, "How you gonna spring us?" with... "I have No Idea." The first time Jack fires the submachine gun, he has the safety on, then when he does fire it, the look on his face is as if this was the first time ever firing a gun. It's Hilarious. Go back and watch it again if you missed it. I dare you not to laugh out loud, even if you hate every thing else about the movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xRH1rR2dJE But, that one scene perfectly tells you every thing you need to know about the Jack Burton character. He is completely out of his element, but he isn't going to admit it. When asked by Eddie if that was the "first time you ever plugged somebody?" Burton with a stunned expression on his face, looks at Eddie, then thinks about it. "Of Course Not." He believes himself to be the Hero, so he's going to act like the Hero... even when His and every other character's actions are telling him and us, that he is a Lucky Buffoon. Even when he gets the "Hero kisses the Girl" moment, he is left with a face, embarrassingly covered in bright red lipstick, to go and fight the final battle with. Another perfect example of how you're supposed to take the Jack Burton character... Laughingly and Not Serious. Where Jack and Cassie definitely differed was in the End. Jack being Jack, wasn't going to stick around and settle down with the girl. That's not his style. He's not going to kiss the girl goodbye either. That would only give her something to hope for... and that would be the Wrong thing to do. Cassie would've kissed the Girl. (You know what I mean :-) The character Jack Burton in this film, as well as Cassie watching this film, were completely out their element. They both pressed on, and tried to have the hap-hap happiest time since they last watched (or starred in) a Disney Movie ;-) I love this film and I expected it to not be Cassie's favorite. I thought it was a Great Reaction. Watching someone be confused for 1 hour and 40 minutes, can actually be kinda Fun. Thanks Cassie. IMO, the Kurt Russell that you are looking for can be found in... Captain Ron. PS: Cassie, you were correct in thinking the flying electricity guy, Lightning, was from Mortal Kombat. This Big Trouble in Little China character inspired the Mortal Kombat character, Raiden.

Larry Darrell

Maybe she should have watched the extended edition 😆🤣😂. Just kidding, there isn’t one 🤷🏻‍♂️🙄….

JRCortez

So sorry that you didn't care for it. But I understand, lot of people don't. Sometime, give The Best of Times a try. It should be more to your liking. As always, thanks for the reaction Cassie.

Samuel Champ

Well Said.

Larry Darrell

actor Victor Wong, was also the Grandpa in 3 Ninjas (1992)

Larry Darrell

Hey Cassie, a couple of things to truly understand this movie. First, John Carpenter movies are intentionally over the top with weird monsters and things like that. I mean look at The Thing.. or this movie or even Ghosts of Mars. Its intentional for him to be out there. Second, Jack Burton wasnt really the hero of the movie, and this is actually documented that Wang Chi was the hero and Jack was more of the representation of the audience being brought into that strange world. I am sad to see you didnt enjoy it, but while watching your reaction it did seem you were enjoying it and getting most of the humor. This movie isnt for everyone thats for sure. And actually the original concept for this movie was going to be set in the old west where Jack was trying to get his horse back. Perhaps if you watch it again with that perspective you might enjoy it a bit more. But as always it was fun watching this with you and seeing how youd react. Your reactions are priceless.

Johnny Bullis

Yeah, I had a feeling you wouldn't care much for this one. Honestly, neither do I really. The popularity of this and FIFTH ELEMENT always confounded me as I find them more annoying than anything else. I was hoping for STARGATE, ESCAPE FROM NY, MIRACLE or even BREAKDOWN to win the poll, but alas it was not to be. Oh, well. Onward and upward. Hopefully you'll get to react to those other tithed at some point. They are all much better than BIG TROUBLE and more up your alley.

Stick Figure Studios

Jack is not the hero. Wang is the hero, Jack is the sidekick. I told you guys we should'a voted for Escape From New York, but noooooo...

pinkdino99

Yep, this is a chessy/hammy, choatic, disorienting romp, and that is pretty much intentional; with the bombastically, over-confident "Jack Burton" being the audience's proxy by not having any idea of what is going on most of the time. I think what also throws people is that despite Kurt Russell being the biggest name actor (at least in Hollywood terms) and what appears to be the main character, "Jack Burton" is actually the comic-relief side-kick. So they expect him to be the big hero, however for the most part any positive impacts he has on the story/plot are mainly by accident. I think this point and, as Cassie said herself, she thinks Jack Burton is arrogant (true), which is very much against type a bit for Kurt Russell. Cassie was looking for "Overboard" Kurt Russell, and so when that didn't happen and when there was the hint of a bit of romance that was then snatched away, it may have taken most of the shine off "ol' jack Burton". I always found this movie this fun, but I get why people wouldn't.

Mojo One Thousand

Big Trouble In Little China is a GREAT movie, but not every movie is for everyone. Bummer Cassie didn't enjoy it. On to the next reaction!

Walter

Exactly! There was a long stretch last year where I had to grin and bear it because of all the big dumb action movies being seen here, the Rocks, the Con-Airs, all the Lethal Weapons. It is not that I think any of those movies were bad, but I just needed a break from all the big loud action movies and I never seemed to get one. But now Big Trouble In Little China is the bridge too far for the movie fans here? Really? Ha ha

MikeLL

Word

Björn Karlsson

Amen

Shawn Kildal

This was a bittersweet Cassie reaction for me. I've waited years for Cassie to react to it, and it may have moved into first place above Batman 89 in disappointments 😢 It did hurt my heart a bit when she was totally not into it. Yes yes, we are all allowed to like different things, but it doesn't make the sting any less painful. Also @Just Plain Bob made a good point: It handily won the Kurt Russell poll. It is a 7.2 on IMDB and 82% on Rotten Tomatoes. Just in my personal life alone almost everyone I know likes it, if not loves it.

Todzilla

I saw this in 1988 - my senior year in high school. Thought it was dumb then, both times I tried to watch it again a few years later and still do today. Cannot FATHOM how some folks like it, but I know they're out there because one of my best friends always raves about how great it was. To each his own, I suppose.

David Collins

Amen brother. I'm not calling out fellow Patreons, but it's odd it scored so high on the poll, yet has very few defenders now after she watched it. Maybe the pro Big Trouble in Little China voters are all MIA 🤷

Todzilla

I fully understand why some people don’t like this movie. It’s definitely not for everyone. I happen to love it, as do many. But some of the comments here are odd. I’ve even seen claims that most people don’t like it. It won the poll for the simple reason that many people like this movie. It has a 7.2 on IMDB and an audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes of 82%. I’m NOT saying that’s a measure of how good it is, since art is subjective. But it’s certainly a measure of its popularity. I’ve also seen a lot of remarks that the only reason that people like this movie is nostalgia. Statements such as that clearly imply that the only thing the movie appeals to is our longing for lost youth. Speaking for myself, that’s simply not true. But the bigger question is, why do some people feel the need to impugn other people’s tastes/preferences just because they don’t share them? I first saw this movie in the late 80s on VHS. I did not like it. It wasn’t my cup of tea at the time. But, as my tastes gradually changed, I came to appreciate it more and more until it eventually became one of my favorite movies. So, for me, it’s almost a form of anti-nostalgia. It’s fine if someone doesn’t like a movie. I just don’t understand the need to act as though the film is unpopular or that people could only like it if it’s seen thru the lense of youth. Here’s an idea: maybe show a little respect for other people’s taste and accept that we’re all different and capable of liking different things.

Just Plain Bob

Carli also seems to have an almost supernatural awareness of what's coming at times...

Story Archer

Honestly, I consider myself quite the movie buff and the appeal of both movies has always mystified me. Each to their own, no judgement here... I just never got it.

Story Archer

Facts.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

The Last Dragon is a guilty pleasure movie that I love to pieces but would never recommend to anyone. But dat final fight scene... Oh my.

SpiffMan

This movie is a comedy. They used to make really fun popcorn action comedies like this and Golden Child in the 80s. It's supposed to be over the top and campy fun. You aren't supposed to get the logic of the story, its just silly fantasy. This film is a classic and is made by the great John Carpenter.

Farbod

Nostalgia

Clay F

Good chance she would have like Miracle.

Clay F

I had a feeling this was not going to be Cassie’s kind of movie. While the absurdity of it can be fun (The Last Dragon comes to mind) and Kurt Russell is obviously having fun, this is a “take it or leave it” film for me. Not as horrible as Escape from LA but definitely not one of his best. I would check out Silkwood, The Mean Season, Tequila Sunrise or the silly but endearing The Best of Times with Robin Williams.

Justtired

I was hoping Escape from New York would do better in the poll.

Clay F

Hard for me to believe won over Escape from New York (1981)), but that is my bias, as I have nostalgia for Escape from New York.

Clay F

I have nostalgia for Escape from New York (1981), which I voted for in the poll. I was age 18 in 1981, the year I graduated from high school.

Clay F

This is a very rare moment where I think I will pass watching the reaction. I didn’t care for the film - it seems like you didn’t either - so we’ll throw this on my new “I’ll-take-a-Mulligan” category. Hard to believe this won over Stargate and Executive Decisions.

Ike

Watching this movie for the first time as an adult, it took me a while to see what they were going for. Now I can appreciate it as a comedy, but it's still not my first choice.

Ben Livingstone

When Fifth Element didn't hit i had a feeling this would flop.

TinCan Cosmanaut

Well, I think anyone knowing Cassie for a while could have guessed it probably won't be her cup of tea. Many years ago, this movie was hyped up and sold to me as one of the best action movies of the 80s but ended up being one of the few movies I actually quit watching and couldn't finish. Since then, I gave it a second chance and watched it in its entirety. Knowing exactly what to expect did help and I kind of enjoyed some parts of it, like how Russell is playing his role as a big shot action hero when he is just a sidekick. But overall, I still couldn't vibe with this movie either.

Gábor Árki

Lots of folks seem to bounce off this specifically, my 18 & 19 year old kids included, who otherwise really do have a 95% agreement with my movie likes. Perhaps this is something that works better when you grew up watching it 10-50 times on cable because it was always on? I dearly love it, but it doesn't seem to play well with folks who didn't watch it BitD.

SpiffMan

Judging by the comments people who hate this movie REALLY hate this movie. Oh well, to each their own.

Kyle

This movie is kind of a childhood staple for people my age, it's just always been a favorite since I was 10 years old.

Joshua s. Jackson

If they were trying to copy the format of Rosemary's Baby, then they fell really wide of the mark. Instead of attempting to copy the format, maybe they should have focused on copying the quality of Rosemary's Baby.

D. T. Nelson

Taget Audience just did a half hour deep dive discussion on Stargate if anyone is interested.

Shawn Kildal

I remember Christine being one of her favorites.

Larry Darrell

I was hoping Cassie would like the humor in this one, but I get why a lot of people don't like it, I'm in the minority because it's the chaos that I love about this movie, it's not quite like anything else. Part of the reason for that is intentional, it's not only action, comedy, horror, and fantasy, it's also a Hong Kong style martial arts and magic "Hsia" movie. And I actually only know this because last year Cinebinge reacted to this one and George speaks Cantonese so he was not only translating he was kind of giving background on the genre, it was really interesting. Some of the sort of weirder or cornier things like the make up and the way the characters will be sort of over the top with their exposition, is just like the Hsia movies. This is actually one of my favorite Kurt Russell movies because I think he's hilarious as the butt of the joke, the main character who isn't really the main character, he's kind of an idiot but comes in clutch. Admittedly it's a pretty goofy movie, but I think mostly intentionally, and I thought all the world building was pretty creative and cool, and the stunts were awesome. Anyway it's definitely considered one of John Carpenter's misses, but I still enjoy watching it every time.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

FYI, it may have already been brought up but Kurt Russell is not Kate Hudson's father.

Brian McGovern

No... a second viewing doesn't help. In fact, you usually hate yourself for not learning your lesson the first time around. Big Trouble in Little China is bad. Not "so bad it's good". It's just bad. I would rather sit and watch Star Trek TNG's episode "Skin of Evil" on repeat for eight hours than sit through 1 1/2 hours of this movie (which feels like eight hours). I'm happy for you that you like it, but I'll stick to quality movies.

D. T. Nelson

Sadly, I don’t think the John Carpenter movies are doing well with Cassie. Maybe Christine did Ok but not great.

JC762

Never understood the popularity of this movie

Thomas Thompson

might need to roll this one around a bit before it sinks in. second viewing helps but obviously thats unlikely.

rubberkidney

You forgot the shining.

Craig Russell

This one's pure 80s cheese, the ridiculous factor is definately high. Takes a few watches for all of it it really sink in and really grasp the plot. I'm surprised captain Ron didn't make the list if you liked overboard yould love that one.

Bubba Fett

Felt like I was wading through a sea of bombastic haters, thankful to see a like minded traveler. People, it’s a John Carpenter film, meant to be a wacky homage to the classic Kung Fu films of the late 60’s-70’s

william aaron sleeper

I was pleased when she said she should watch Miracle. That was the one I voted for. True story that is also inspirational.

Tom Furze

I like this one because I like cheese! But I knew you wouldn't care for it. But like many others here, I wanted you to watch Stargate, because I like it, AND I think you'd really like it! Don't give up on Kurt Russell yet!

Richard Rolen

Thanks for your honesty, Cassie. I'm not sure why everyone wants you to watch their favorite shows from their teenage years. I could understand it if YOU were a teenager. Miracle would have been a great choice, but you'll get there... Sorry about your Cougs....kinda, sorta. 😉

Bill Hayden

I couldn’t even finish this movie —- horrible! After 40 minutes I had to stop. I voted for BREAKDOWN which is a much better film.

N M

I have never really understood the appeal of this movie, to be honest. I thought it was pretty meh when I saw it when I was a kid in the 1980s. I watched it again about 10 years ago and couldn't finish it, as it hasn't aged well at all and life is way to short to spend on bad movies like this one.

Chris H.

Saw this while I was in the 82nd Airborne in 86 and it became a cult classic for us. We even had a drink we made called the pork chop express it contained many ingredients along with 8 shots of absolute vodka. Interesting note was this original story/screenplay had this set as a western in 1870’s SanFransico China town with Jack a cowboy character. Cassie may want to note Egg Chen was the store keeper in the cult classic Tremors.

Jason Mangen

I'm sorry you had to watch this. Out of the choices you had in the poll I figured it would be a close one between Stargate and Captain Ron. It was some crazy people that wanted you to watch this train wreck of a movie.

Craig Russell

Miracle would have been a great pick. A fantastic movie of a real moving and motivational event in our history.

Andrew Rose

Captain Ron is another quirky classic.

Jason Mangen

Predictable reaction, but will anyone learn from it and stop voting for movies with a high probability of not being liked? Of course not. Only the "popular" movies with a million reactions can win, while the enjoyable ones languish at the bottom of the polls.

Mike Lemon

Escape From New York is not better.

Mike Lemon

That’s OK. Now try Captain Ron. :-)

Larry Darrell

Cassie's most disliked movies? Not sure, maybe some of these. Batman (1989), Big Trouble in Little China, Scream (1996), Pulp Fiction, and FMJ.

Clay F

Yeah, this was always a nostalgia pick for other people - anyone who voted for it weren't thinking of what you guys enjoy as much as wanting to relive their own memories (which is fine, by the way). The movie from that poll that you guys should have watched is Tango & Cash - Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone in an 80's buddy-cop movie heavy on action and leaning hard on the charisma and likeability of their twin leads.

Story Archer

This is still a very good reaction, however Cassie thought of the movie. It seems that she was resisting it a little, instead of just going with the wackiness. My favorite aspect of the movie is Kurt's gonzo John Wayne imppression as the bombastic Jack Burton. At least it seems he is using John Wayne's vocal intonations throughout the movie. At one point Cassie asks “how can Wang fight so well?” And I think it is because, as Wang said in the movie “My body and spirit are as one” or somesuch. Edit after I read all the comments: This movie is really not meant to be taken seriously. Just look at Kurt's character: the sidekick as main character. This movie is just wacky fun, you just have to go with it. Not meant to be seriously thought about, lol.

MikeLL

In my humble opinion this was a movie made to appeal to children back in the 80s... it was a B movie with an A list actor.. I'm not surprised with this reaction at all.. This is not representative of what's best from Kurt Russell.

Andrew Rose

Red Dawn - Ugh. How did that ever win a poll?

Clay F

Big Trouble in Little China is one of my favorite movies. I saw it in the theater when it came out with my older brothers. Great memories.

Tom Frankiewicz

Sorry you didn’t enjoy this one that much. I haven’t watched this in decades. And honestly, never really felt the need to. I’m a fan of Kurt Russell. But this film was never really one of my favorites of his. I’ll probably still check out your YouTube edit of this reaction though

Robert da Spruce

That's easy to answer - when we really, REALLY like a movie it's difficult to envision the rest of the world feeling differently.

ButtercupsTrueLove

Never feel bad for not liking a movie! EVER!! It makes your channel that more appealing, IMO. With that said... STARGATE!!!

Philip Alan

I'm fully convinced that everyone who calls this a classic just watched it in college while they were drunk/high or something, loved it, and haven't re-evaluated it since. And I *like* cheesy '80s B-movies. It's just.....I don't know. It's something I've seen once and I don't ever want to watch again. I think you have to be really be in a mood to see something completely zany to enjoy it. It pushes the envelope of zany and you have to just roll with it. You have to fully disengage and go on the ride, or else it just doesn't work.

Caomhan84

If a movie reaches a "cult classic" status it's going to win the poll it's in. Doesn't matter how good or bad it is. Or how good or bad the other movies in the poll are. It's just the way it is.

Shawn Kildal

So would a Sidney Poitier or even a Jimmy Cagney poll. The usuals are the usuals and they’re great, but there’s so much to discover. Even a (gasp) Rosalind Russell or Kathleen Turner poll!

Marja

I knew it. I saw that coming a mile away. Kurt Russell has so many good to great movies to choose from. Ugh. Seems many of Cassie's "not my favorite" movies are poll winners. Red Dawn, The 5th Element, Full Metal Jacket and this one just off the top of my head. She could have watched Miracle or Breakdown among many others and would have enjoyed it much, much more I think.

Shawn Kildal

Cassie is able to do that so often in these movies. "Why are his sun glasses on" next second they come off. It's as if her voice can transcend time and speak to them 38 years ago.

Tom Furze

Cassie, don’t feel any obligation to like a movie just because we patrons do. Personally, I love it. The “chaos” you see when you watch the movie is a wonderful melange of some of my favorite genres when I see it. I don’t like romantic comedies. You do. That doesn’t make me or you right or wrong. It’s just different tastes. Speaking for myself, the only time I feel you step over the line is if you insult those that do like a movie. The best example of that was your reaction to the 1989 “Batman.” I didn’t mind that you didn’t like it. To me, what was ugly about your reaction was saying that it was something that would only appeal to teenage boys, etc. Implying (or outright stating) that the audience for a film you don’t like is juvenile just “ain’t cool” (as us kids like to say). There was a definite “Mean Girls” vibe to y’all’s reaction to that one. The good news is, I only remember that happening once or twice and I know you didn’t intend to be insulting. But you should NEVER feel apologetic just because you don’t like something we recommended. It’s gonna happen. People tune in to see a genuine reaction. That’s all you owe us. PS: Your team/movie tournament idea has made the NCAA Tournament interesting to me for the first time in more than twenty years. I’d love for it to become an annual event on your channel.

Just Plain Bob

Escape from New York (my vote).

Clay F

It's perfectly fine for our host to dislike something and it's perfectly fine for fans of it to disagree with her about it. No use trying to argue or convince someone to change their mind, their opinion is their opinion.

Patrick Flanagan

Soldier and Tequila Sunrise are much better movies.

Rick Williams

That's easy, it's great.

Patrick Flanagan

Agree.

Clay F

I think Cassie would have liked better Miracle (2004) and maybe even Escape from New York (1981). I am a fan of Escape from New York (1981) -- that was my vote in the poll.

Clay F

Well now I don't know what to do. I'd watched this many many years ago and I thought it was kind of weird then. When it won I thought I would give it a second chance to watch it with you. Now I'm torn. I think my pick was Stargate although that's more James Spader than Kurt. I might save this for another time. Correction now that I think about it actually I think I picked Miracle

Canadianant

Never understood the love for this movie

Keith Jones

John Carpenter helped launch a lot of big careers (James Cameron, for example), but this movie? There is low budget and B movies, but this one was just bad.

D. T. Nelson

I thought you would not like it. Kurt Russell has done a number of good movies. But, this isn't one of them. I never cared for it. I don't know why so many thought you would like it.

Rick Williams

I never cared much for it either. It's fine for me but nothing like Escape from New York or Stargate.

Sometimes the PIB community gets it right and sometimes we don't...This was one of the few swing and a miss - third strike. Cassie you like actor polls - I would think the next actor poll from should come from the 30s, 40s, or 50s. Musical or not, there are plenty of great classical actors. A Gregory Peck poll would be fun.

John Liebling

Brooke, read my comment above on why this movie was so popular

Michael Lynch

I cannot explain to you enough how popular and iconic this movie is. It is purposefully cheesy with some freaking awesome one liners from Kurt. You gotta remember everybody was huge into Kurt Russell back then and this kind of comedy/action just hit the spot with all of his fans.

Michael Lynch

I try not to take this movie too seriously and just for exactly what it is. Cheesy funny 80's chaos with Kurt Russell in a mullet. 😁 The Kurt Russell poll should be revisted again in the future. Escape From New York (my vote), Tequila Sunrise, Tango & Cash, Unlawful Entry, Stargate, Executive Decision, Breakdown, Soldier, 3000 Miles To Graceland, and Miracle are definitely worth reacting to. 😁

Zane From Canada

Yeah as soon as this one won the poll I knew it wouldn't be a Cassie favorite. I wish people would consider what she is going to enjoy over what they personally want to see her react to. For future reference, my pick was Soldier and I let her know that Tequila Sunrise should have been on the poll.

Looks like we might have our first entry for the jump scare category at next years Poppies. LOL

Dave Hill

I was fairly certain you wouldn't like this, much in the same way you didn't like Fifth Element. I'm more excited for TNG and white men can't jump this week anyway

Choof

"Big Trouble" is alright if you're in the mood for it, but personally I think "Escape From New York" is far better. If no one minds my saying so.

Jake McNulty

I agree... Agree to what?, who knows!? lol 🙂 but yea...

Mannygogou

You know the writers for this movie actually copied the same format as Rosemary's Baby, so they copied Polanski. Well if you can beat them join them. Gangnam Style..... https://youtu.be/by7dIybMVAc?si=5XPkoPCIStjfU_rO

Zachary K. (Swiftie)

Yeah, never understood the appeal of this one either. Chaos is a good word to describe it. A script that feels like it was written by a group of high school students on drugs, a director who was absent during filming, and a bunch of actors who either phoned in their performance or (like Kurt Russel) said to themselves "You know what, I'm getting paid so I'll just have fun. No one will remember this film in a year anyway." (well... He was wrong about that last part). - - - There were some much better Kurt Russel Movies on the poll. Stargate, Captain Ron, Miracle, even another low budget John Carpenter movie on the list- Escape From New York - was better.

D. T. Nelson

This film is a classic B flick. Check out the director. 😉 lol

Jerrod Acree

Yes. Another cult classic!

Wes

This is truly a 'Love it or hate it', BTILC is 80's cheesy fun all the way,Kurt is certainly a sweaty, bombastic hunk and a half! Cassie! Take a look at '3,000 Miles to Graceland' 2001, it's Kurt Russell & Kevin Costner & Courtney Cox!🌟🌟🌟

Celeste McAllister

I just purchased this movie specifically for this reaction. One day they'll release a 4k...one day...

JohnnyUtah

Remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this... let's watch this reaction!

Jay Davis

I have never understood the love for this movie and I had a feeling you wouldnt like it Cassie. So many other better Kurt Russell movies you could have watched. Oh well there is always next time.

brooke atkins

I have no audio on my end. Anyone else?
