Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) - Full Reaction

I'm in love, I'm in love and I don't care who knows it! This was so great, a perfect send off, all the characters good sides, just enough cheesiness that I could kiss them and I will miss them dearly! On to the next generation!

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) - Full Reaction

Comments

I hope you react to the reboot trilogy starting with Star Trek 2009. I’m a life long Star Trek fan and I saw the reboot in theaters with my mom and siblings. It was amazing! Loving your Star Trek reactions. 🖖 Live long and prosper. ❤️

Ebony

"Fly her a part then!" Captain Sulu to the rescue!!

Randolph Tirazona

I don't understand people telling Cassie she doesn't know the characters. Sometimes a movie is all we get and it speaks to the quality of those OG films that she feels she does. I mean, who knew the Star Wars characters before the original movie? I didn't need a Ferris Bueller series before that movie to confirm he was a righteous dude.

Scott Macaulay

For those that dont know, this movie is a sci fi alt reality mirror to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Chernobyl incident that happened in the 80s. This movie plays off those moments in our history. On to the next crew of Star Trek. My fav of the next gen movies is "Nemesis" I think youll love that one.

LightsCameraJake

When it listed Mary Jo Slater as casting director I suddenly remembered he had a cameo.

Walter

Man, I hate Encounter At Farpoint, but it really is a helpful episode to introduce newbies to TNG.

Walter

Have you seen a film called Enemy Mine, I’m pretty sure that’s where they got the idea from for Darmok. I’m not taking any thing away from the episode as it’s one of my favourites as well. Great picks btw I think Relics would be a great episode for her to watch as well just because of a returning character.

Dean Holt

Saw Generations about five time at the cinema, personally think it’s seriously underrated as a trek film as I think people tend to forget about it all together.

Dean Holt

Great to see you loved this one as it’s always been 50/50 my favourite film with Wrath of Khan. It’s funny how we all see characters differently as I didn’t know when she played a Samantha (had to IMDb it lol) as I’ve always known her from big trouble in little China lol. But these so many great performances in his one and it’s a great send off to the old crew. I really hope you feel the same way about the Next Gen crew as personally Sir Patrick Stewart is my favourite captain. He’s a phenomenal actor he also was born about 30 miles away from where I live. Not sure if it’s been decided which episode your going to watch but here’s I few id recommend. The Measure of a Man Q Who (if time Best of both Worlds just because it’s probably the best Star Trek episode) Yesterdays Enterprise Sins of the Father Redemption Relics (won’t help with the movies, but an old friend returns)

Dean Holt

Thanks for that! Very useful.

Cade

This message is only relevant if you really are enjoying Star Trek as much as it seems. "Star Trek is the good future." Someone wise once said that, can't think who it might have been right now, but that's not the point. The point is that she was right. Star Trek is not a dystopian hellscape of suffering, exploitation, and misery, it's the idea that in the face of overwhelming adversity people from all backgrounds and ancestry will accept their differences and come together to work toward achieving a common goal. It's the hope that one day people will choose better themselves and each other. I think we can agree that the world needs a little bit more of that right now. That's what makes Star Trek special, and that's why its important to share. Now, I understand you don't want to turn your channel into PopcornInEnterprise, but I would encourage you to give Star Trek: The Next Generation more time. Not only do I think it's the best version of Star Trek, I would say that it's one of the best television series of all time. I think, if you are enjoying this concept, there are so many things you will love in the next generation, and if you only watch four, or five, or ten episodes you're really going to miss out on a lot. For Example, if you ask people for six episodes, you might get Encounter at Farpoint, QWho, The Measure of a Man, Who Watches the Watchers, Best of Both worlds I, Best of Both Worlds II... ut oh, I ran out, and I didn't even get to all the episodes that are universally (pretty much) considered great, not to mention there are episodes that I really think you will like that no one will mention. For example, I believe that you will really like episodes like Captain's Holiday and Attached, but no one is going to put them on a list of the 5 best TNG episodes to watch. Another thing you're going to miss is Troi's mother, one of the best characters, steals every episode she's in, but no one is going to tell you to watch Haven, Menage a Troi, or Cost of Living. No one is going to put the fun or light hearted episodes on their list, like Disaster, Rascals, or Starship Mine. Those episodes are just entertaining and a good time, they aren't meant to be taken too seriously, and though they don't have the philosophical depth of something like Who Watches the Watchers or Drumhead, they are fun to watch, and I'd hate for you to miss them, especially if its to get to a series of movies that is, quite frankly, in my opinion, disappointing when compared to the show. Oh, look out, people are already angrily taking to their keyboards, but before you take your frustrations out on those innocent little keys, let me offer a concession; First Contact is a good movie and you will likely enjoy it. There, see how calm everyone is now, trouble is there are three other movies that I called disappointing along with that one and no one cares. And, when it comes to First Contact, truthfully, I'd rather you watch the episode First Contact from season 4, and then one or two more instead. And then three episodes for every other movie you skip, that would be twelve extra episodes, and I think you'll have a much richer experience. Again, before the masses come at me, First Contact is a fine movie, I liked it when I first saw it. I liked it until I saw what it did to the lore. Reducing {REDACTED} one of the most interesting and complex {REDACTED} to nothing more than bugs was a terrible misstep that ruined everything that came after, but that's the trouble with being a big ol' nerd, you sometimes find yourself disliking things that are perfectly fine because you no longer like the cannon. Anyway, where was I... Oh yes, Star Trek The Next Generation. Assuming I can't convince you to watch 10 episodes from season one, nine from season two, then all of seasons three through five, most of season six, and a few from season seven, I have compiled two lists. The first is the shortest list I could manage while still giving you something of substance. You will miss a lot of great episodes and stories, but this will give you a rudimentary understanding of the show. You should be able to follow (almost) everything from episode to episode, and though it won't be smooth, you're skipping a lot, this will give you as complete a story as possible with this few number of episodes. It will have a beginning, middle, and end, as well as depth on a few characters, Picard and Data mostly. 1/1-Encounter at far point 1/13-Datalore 1/19-Coming of Age 2/9-Measure of a Man 2/16-Q Who 3/4-Who Watches the Watchers 3/13-Deja Q 3/16-The Offspring 3/26-The Best of Both Worlds 4/1-The Best of Both Worlds II 4/2-Family 4/3-Brothers 4/12-The Wounded 5/3-Ensign Ro 5/14-Conundrum 6/10-Chain of Command 6/11-Chain of Command II 6/15-Tapestry 7/8-Attached 7/24-Preemptive Strike 7/25-All Good Things This second list is a still incomplete list of every episode that I think is above average and/or important for one reason or another, or maybe I think you just might like it. Sometimes I have added more clarification as to why they are on the list. Here is a key to make things clearer. Core: This means it is an episode that is important to the plot of the series. Fun: Just as it sounds, these episodes are more light hearted, shouldn't be taken as seriously, and are simply meant to be enjoyed. Character: These episodes reveal something about, or focus in on the named character(s). In these episodes, the 'plot' of the episode is often the B story, and in some cases, really isn't important or interesting. Character development is the point to these episodes. Paramount: These are episodes I believe to be very important, though not necessarily to the overall plot of the series. I consider these must watch episodes, and most are favorites of mine. There are some people that might disagree with my labeling in this category, but again this is my opinion, and I believe skipping them would be missing out. If you choose to skip some of these during your run, that's your choice, however I would caution that if you want to skip 'Measure of a Man', 'Who Watches the Watchers', or 'Best of Both Worlds', some might consider that as serious an offense as saying you don't care for First Contact, and then it might be you instead of I that hears the familiar sound of the angry fingers of the masses, frustratedly striking innocent keys young lady. Anyway, here's the ridiculous list that you're not going to follow, but much like Jean Luc Picard and his crew, just because something seems futile, that doesn't mean we give up or lose hope, and that my dear watcher is the point to Star Trek, and something Alex Kurtzman doesn't seem to understand. 1/1-Encounter at Farpoint (Core) 1/6-Where no one has gone before (Character: Wesley Crusher) 1/9-The Battle (Character: Picard) 1/11-Haven (Character: Troi and her Mother) 1/12-The Big Goodbye (Fun) 1/13-Datalore (Core, Character: Data) 1/15-11001001 aka Binary 1/19-Coming of Age (Character: Wesley Crusher, Picard) 1/20-Heart of Glory (Character: Worf) 1/22-Symbiosis 1/25-Conspiracy (I wouldn't include this one, but some people think its good, others are like me and think its overrated, but it is an episode that gets talked about a lot, do as you like.) 2/2-Where Silence has Lease 2/3-Elementary, Dear Data (Character: Data, sets up future event) 2/8-A Matter of Honor (Character: Riker, World Building: Klingon) 2/9-Measure of a Man (Paramount Character: Data, Picard, Riker) 2/15-Pen Pals 2/16-Q Who (Core, Paramount: Sets up future events) 2/19-Manhunt 2/20-The Emissary (Character: Worf) 2/21-Peak Performance (Character: Data) 3/2-The Ensigns of Command (Character: Data) 3/3-The Survivors 3/4-Who Watches the Watchers (Paramount) 3/5-The Bonding 3/6-The Booby Trap 3/9-The Vengeance Factor 3/11-The Hunted 3/12-The High Ground (Character: Beverly Crusher) 3/13-Deja Q (It's a Q episode, you're going to want to watch it.) 3/14-A Matter of Perspective (Character: Riker.) 3/16-The Offspring (Paramount, Character: Data) 3/19-Captain's Holiday (Character: Picard) 3/22-The Most Toys 3/24-Menage a Troi (Character: Troi and her mother, with Riker.) 3/25-Transfigurations 3/26-The Best of Both Worlds (Core, Paramount) 4/1-The Best of Both Worlds II (Core, Paramount) 4/2-Family (Paramount, character: Picard) 4/3-Brothers (Core, Character: Data) 4/4-Suddenly Human 4/7-Reunion (Character: Worf) 4/8-Future Imperfect 4/11-Data's Day (Character: Data) 4/12-The Wounded 4/13-Devil's Due 4/14-Clues 4/15-First Contact 4/17-Night Terrors 4/19-The Nth Degree 4/20-Qpid (Character: Picard.) 4/21-The Drumhead (Paramount.) 4/22 Half a Life 4/23-The Host (Character:Beverly Crusher) 4/25-In Theory (Character: Data) 5/3-Ensign Ro (Character: Ro) 5/4-Silicon Avatar 5/5-Disaster (Fun) 5/6-The Game 5/7&8-Unification I & II (Only watch if you want to see Spock again.) 5/10-New Ground (Character: Worf) 5/14-Conundrum 5/15-Power Play 5/17-The Outcast 5/18-Cause and Effect 5/19-The First Duty (Character: Wesley Crusher) 5/20-Cost of Living (Fun, Character: Troi and her mother) 5/22-Imaginary Friend 5/24-The Next Phase 5/25-The Inner Light (Character: Picard, a great episode, one of my favorites.) 6/4-Relics 6/5-Schisms 6/6-True Q 6/7-Rascals (Fun) 6/9-Quality of Life (Character: Data) 6/10 & 11-Chain of Command I & II (Paramount, Character: Picard) 6/12-Ship in a bottle (Only watch if you also watched Elementary, Dear Data.) 6/15-Tapestry (Character: Picard. One of my favorite episodes.) 6/18-Starship Mine (Fun: Die Hard on the Enterprise, that is not a joke.) 6/19-Lessons (Character: Picard) 6/20-The Chase 6/22-Suspicions 6/26-Descent (Core) 7/1-Descent II (Core) 7/4&5 Gambit I & II 7/6-Phantasms (Character: Data) 7/7-Dark Page (Character: Troi and her mother) 7/8-Attached (Character: Picard, Beverly Crusher) 7/9-Force of Nature 7/10-Inheritance (Character: Data) 7/12-The Pegasus 7/15-Lower Decks 7/16-Thine Own Self 7/21-Firstborn (Character: Worf) 7/22-Bloodlines (Character: Picard) 7/23-Emergence 7/24-Preemptive Strike (Character: Ro, Picard) 7/25-All good Things... (One of the best finales. Come on, you have to see how it ends. This is how it ends, there are no movies.) Use this list as you like, watch as much as you want. I included the clarifications so that if you choose to skip an episode you understand what you're skipping. Most Importantly, please do enjoy.

Zenjuju

I was a little disappointed Cassie didn't catch the Christian Slater cameo as the night-duty guard/officer. I forgot he was even in it. I liked how you hear his voice while he is in the shadow and I was like - I recognize that voice! Then they show him.

David Collins

great picks.

djKENTO

Some TNG suggestions: Q who, best of both worlds, and family - good background on Borg and Picards family Datalore and The Measure of a man - good backstory on Data Tapestry, Darmok, the inner light, yesterdays enterprise - just stellar episodes Schisms - because it’s creepy af and I think Cassie will freak out😃

Ross Chain

I wish you'd have shown watching the full final credits... the music and each actor getting to literally put their signature to the decades of work they did gets me every time... a beautiful sendoff.

John Rybock

These are good choices.

Robert Haynes

Roddenberry really had no official control though he opinions were usually considered. Meyer and Roddenberry got into a heating argument about Saavik, Meyer talks about it and regrets some of things he said because he didn't realize how sick Gene was. Meyer was ready to ignore Gene and cast Saavik but Kirsty Alley wasn't available and they didn't want Robin Curtis back. Also Kim Catrall had no interest in being the third actor to portray Saavik so they let her create her own vulcan character. She came up with the name and personality.

RJ MacReady

Roddenberry hated it he said Starfleet officers would never hold those opinions and would never have conflict like Kirk and Spock did after the briefing. He was wrong, IMO it makes it more realistic. 70 years of hostility is not easy to just move past even for an enlightened federation. One thing I did agree with him on is they should have given the Klingons more backstory. However ST 6 turned out beautifully!

RJ MacReady

I was looking for someone to reference Chernobyl (and few know about Adlai Stevenson). Well done, Tex! 😎

Ike

As it pertains to TNG movies and what specific episodes to cover to add understanding and depth to the films, I will leave most of the specifics to the members here that are better versed in that shows episodes. I only make a few requests.. -Please include relevant episodes about The Borg. -The episode Family. -Darmok ..just an interesting episode about communication. -Personal choice: The Inner Light, probably one of my favorites. -Lessons: because we know Cassie is an incurable romantic. :) I'll keep it short... but I thought I should make a few suggestions.

Michael Enos

Hey, Cassie. This is the teaser trailer released for STVI in 1991. It’s beautiful. I think you’ll understand now what it meant to us as fans, because I think it’s exactly how you feel now. https://youtu.be/lKfkkhEbUlY?si=wNqr9a3mG3epzsfI

Jason Chirevas

After you watch some key episodes in The Next Generation series, the first movie you’ll want to watch is Star Trek Generations. I notice people tend to forget the first movie was from 1994.

Rainbow Dash

Loved watching STVI with you, Cassie. Here’s my two cents on which Next Generation episodes to watch… Encounter at Farpoint Datalore The Best of Both Worlds Unification Cause and Effect The inner Light Relics All Good Things…

Jason Chirevas

Originally the Klingon blood was to be green, but Nimoy nixed that idea. Only Vulcans bleed green.

Shawn Kildal

I did not recall that Worf (or actually his grandfather) was in Star Trek VI. It's time to let TNG (maybe a couple episodes and then First Contact) take over. Further, a few episodes of Deep Space Nine and Voyager would be nice but that is probably asking too much. I am very glad that Cassie mentioned the Chris Pine trilogy (canon w/alternate timeline, slick and entertaining, and great depiction of the characters). Defninitely looking forward to those reactions. Leonard Nimoy on Star Trek (2009): Star Trek (2009) has "great heart with the characters." "I had a great time. I thought that J.J. and his writers had captured the essence of the fun of the Star Trek characters, the chemistry between the people, the excitement of becoming part of that crew and going out on this adventure. I thought it was a great ride as a film. I was pleased with how they treated the Spock character. I thought that they really got it. When they first called me and asked me to come to a meeting, I went to meet with J.J. and Orci and Kurtzman, and the conversation was very moving to me, because I thought these guys really understood what an audience really loves about Star Trek and what an audience loves about the Spock character.... When I read the script I called J.J. immediately and I said, 'Let’s go. Let’s go to work. I love it.' I had a great time doing it." "I finally got a real good sense of closure for myself with Star Trek, and I was very happy to see Zachary Quinto take over the character. I think he’s an excellent, well-trained actor and excellent for the job." Star Trek (2009) "contains a very broad spectrum of Spock’s character. I had a wonderful time making the movie. It was very close to myself. I felt totally comfortable, very much like I feel personally. Having arrived where I am as a person, and the place that Spock has arrived, I felt very, very comfortable with it. It was totally like slipping into a warm bath or an old, comfortable sweatsuit."

Clay F

That floating Klingon blood looked cutting edge back in '91.

Brian's Dog

Nice bit of trivia. Nicolas Meyer wanted the traitor to be Saavik but Roddenberry nixed the idea. Valaris was written in as a replacement.

Ross Chain

6 is an absolute banger, murder mystery Star Trek? Yes please. Also, I'm sure others have mentioned, the sub-plot is about the end of the Cold War, the collapse of the Soviet Union, generations of distrust, etc.

Keith Jacobsen

Yes on: Masters of Air (2024) (9 episodes) True Detective: Night Country (2024) (6 episodes)

Clay F

This movie came out just after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the cold war. It was offered as a morality play on getting past the hate and prejudice of the past. Many of the TOS episodes where about things happening in the 60s.

Joe R

Don't forget... Star Trek: Discovery; Star Trek: Picard; Star Trek: Strange New Worlds; Star Trek: The Animated Series; Star Trek: Lower Decks; and Star Trek: Short Treks

Jane Harker

I think every Star Trek reaction so far I've gotten to have a little giggle because at some point, Cassie starts re-imagining The Enterprise as The Love Boat, looking for flèche de l'Amour. Very endearing I must say. Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but you got to meet (sort of) one of the main members of the TNG cast of characters (same actor as well) in this one. Not going to say which one as I will be curious to notice if you notice when we get into TNG.

David Collins

Well Generations is a crossover, this one is a final send off for the original crew. Their final mission, paving the way for peace with the Klingon Empire. Fitting giving the history since the show.

RJ MacReady

I was looking forward to this one since the beginning, Its just as good as 2 and 4 if not better! I had a strong suspicious Cassie would like it! We told you VI makes up for V lol. Its a fine send off for the original crew and I still get emotional at the end especially when someone knew can also appreciate it! Looking forward to TNG, thought Part VI will also be a special one to me.

RJ MacReady

I've seen this movie more times than I can count and I always thought it was a profound moment when Spok asks if he and Kirk have outlived their usefulness, but the look on Cassie's face when he said that almost broke me.

Ryan Geiger

Lt. Valeris was the female Vulcan

Shawn Kildal

Warner also played the Federation ambassador in Paradise City in Star Trek V

Silver Machine

You realise how much Spock has changed, following his 'death', when you understand he was willingly torturing Saavik to get the information because she'd betrayed his friends. Up until this movie, he'd always asked for permission to use the mind meld technique, because it was meant to be intrusive and painful for someone unwilling. or resisting You can see how painful it was for Saavik and how disbelieving she was when he used the most intrusive techniue on her to confirm she didn't know the location of the peace conference on Khitimer.

Julian Corbett

Just so I have this straight. There is five different series for Star Trek? The Original, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise? Now I wish I would have paid more attention in the science fiction part of that film class I took in college. (I only took that class to get close to a girl that I ended up dating)

Zachary K. (Swiftie)

"Let's Make Sure That History Never Forgets The Name Enterprise” — Yesterday’s Enterprise

Uncle Phoenix

Cassie you are getting very good. You remembered that the Bird of Prey class of ships could not fire while cloaked. And you were quick to suspect who the traitor was on the ship. Great movie. Great Reaction. P.S. it was weird that you figured out who the mustache man was. Then you took A break and when you came back you no longer knew who he was. Very suspicious.🤔 What are you hiding?😐

Rick Williams

Star Trek The Next Generation Recommendations: "Q Who" to meet Guinan and the Borg (For Star Trek Generations and First Contact); "The Best of Both Worlds" parts 1 & 2 to fully understand the Picard/Borg relationship (For Star Trek First Contact); "The Enemy" to meet the Romulans (For Star Trek Nemesis); "Brothers" to understand Mr. Data (For all four TNG movies); "Darmok" because it is one of the best episodes ever.

Jane Harker

Definitely my favorite of the Trek movies with the OG crew. I know Khan is a very popular villain but Christopher Plummer as a Shakespeare-quoting Klingon was just inspired. :) Cassie, I don't know if you noticed but the Klingon Chancellor who was assassinated early on was played by David Warner, who played Dillinger & Sark in the first Tron movie you watched not long ago. I love the story for this one, it's a great final mission for the crew.

Patrick Egan

I agree about it being underrated, I saw it at the cinema about five time have so must nostalgia for it. First contact is great too. The other two are ok but they just feel more like episodes than movies

Dean Holt

I definitely second it, wouldn’t help with the movies but it’s a great episode.

Dean Holt

Due to your fondness for the original crew, I think "Relics" must be included on the list of TNG episodes

John Drake

Khan had his Moby Dick quotes and Chang sure loves his Shakespeare!

Marcos

Cassie - did you recognize Chang - the Klingon war hawk - from his earlier stint as an Austrian naval officer in the Sound of Music (Captain von Trapp himself)?

2-Can

I think they looked into bringing Kirstie Alley back as Saavik, but she wasn't interested, so new Vulcan character played by Kim Cattrall. (Had to lookup how to spell every single proper name in this comment. 😬)

Marcos

Kirk's last line in this one hits me right in the feels every time I watch this movie.

Patrick Egan

Well, there’s still a whole lot of the original series you haven’t watched, so you can certainly pay a visit to the original crew’s past adventures, anytime you want.

Mr Trick

Measure Of A Man isn't just one of the best Star Trek episodes ever made, it's one of the best episodes of ANY television show ever made. Classic Asimov-inspired science fiction at its best.

Patrick Egan

Guys, I’m going to pray for Cass; because I don’t want her to get sick; and have to start wearing socks to bed; and become a serial killer. That would be bad. (No one ever thinks it will happen to them; and that’s why it sometimes does.)

Uncle Phoenix

Hi Cassie! I love that you are so into the Star Trek Universe! I have not watched this reaction yet but I plan on watching it tonight. Just be aware, that when you move on to Star Trek Next Gen it will have a totally different vibe to it. It took me a few episodes to get used to it but after that I actually like STNG more than STOS...and I really like STOS! The real challenge is to determine how many and which episodes to watch as a primer.

George G

She doesn't know that context yet...

John Liebling

Is that where all the boats dock?

John Liebling

Got some movie trivia for you Cassie: Some of the events in "The Undiscovered Country" were written to parallel real world events. The Klingons vs the Federation was always a mirror of the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States. The destruction of Praxis mirrors the Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster. The treaty between the Federation and Klingons and the ceasing of hostilities (no more Neutral Zone) mirrors the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War. You've seen a couple movies recently with the actor playing Chancellor Gorkon, David Warner. He played Ambassador St. John Talbot in "Star Trek V" and Edward Dillinger/Sark in "Tron". He does play another character in two season 6 episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation", but you'll just have to keep an eye out for him. There is a "live action" video game made by Interplay called "Star Trek: Klingon Academy" which Christopher Plummer and David Warner both reprise their roles. The events in the game take place shortly before the events of this movie. The reason why the Klingon blood is colored pink was to keep the movie PG. Had the blood been red, it would have given the movie an R rating. This movie title was actually pitched for the second movie.

Bammer

Star Trek: The Next Generation was my introduction to the universe as a kid. I didn't understand it at all, but I was definitely intrigued. Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Commander William Riker aka Number 1. L.C. Geordi La Forge. Counselor Deanna Troi. Android Data. Lieutenant Worf. Doctor Beverly Crusher. I remember all their names but not all of the shows episodes. But the opening credits, there's a special place in my heart for that tune. 😁 I think you'll enjoy The Next Generation equal to or greater than the OG Star Trek.

Zane From Canada

"I take it the odds are against us and the situation is grim. "You could say that." "...sounds like fun." 😁 😏

Zane From Canada

In the 1950's, before he became a film star, Christopher Plummer starred in several Shakespeare plays in The Stratford Festival in Ontario Canada. One night he got sick and could not play the lead in Henry V, so the role went to his understudy, a young actor named William Shatner, who recalls it as turning point in his career.

Steve Holton

Fun Fact: The end credits of this movie with the actors signatures was the inspiration for the ending credits of Avengers: Endgame

Wes

I'd completely forgotten that Worf was in this.

AdrianF

Agreed with Moto, Generations is the real send off for the OG crew. Well lets say 6 is the send off, Generations is the passing of the torch :)

LightsCameraJake

I agree, the end credit signatures seals the deal on an emotional ending and goodbye. According to "Star Trek the First 25 Years" there was some debate that they should have signed the character names instead but I think they made the right choice. Avengers Endgame ended the same way. While this was a great reaction my one disappointment was that she just stopped in the middle of these great signatures.

Andrew Roach

The real send-off is Star Trek: Generations

MotoDork

This was my first Trek movie I saw in theatres as a kid and it remains one of my all-time favourite experiences. The ending where the music kicks in and their signatures pop up on screen still gives me goosebumps. Perfection.

Odd Thomas

"favorite so far?" "I felt so connected to the characters - " "James Tiberius Kirk, we salute you!"

Terry Yelmene

This one was my favorite for a long time, although it does seem like they try to build up new character Valeris' competence by making characters like Uhura and Chekov look dumb. And some of the scenes are just too silly. (Actual books for the Klingon language? What?) But overall a very worthy send-off for the original crew. Christian Slater was apparently a huge TREK fan as a kid and begged the casting director for a cameo in what was supposed to be the final Kirk movie. Luckily, since the casting director was his mom, he got the part. Slater supposedly kept his uniform and framed his paycheck from the movie rather than cashing it.

Patrick Flanagan

I noticed it as well.

Patrick Flanagan

No, we're going to start over from the beginning and rewatch all six. That's the Trekkie way

Patrick Flanagan

One of the best. I think you'll like Generations, it's so underrated. For me growing up with TNG and then getting to see them on the big screen was so satisfying and the effects in that movie still look amazing.

Odd Thomas

After watching your reaction. Just your reaction and not the movie. Then thinking of TNG. Having know idea what that is. I do know that Masters of The Air is a great show. I will look forward to watching that with you and really encourage you to watch True Detective: Night Country would love to see your reaction to that. Cassie you and your family should try skiing in Vail, CO it's really a blast. My girlfriend and I love it. We had a fun ice skating as well. I did like your reaction to this movie, you seem to be having a lot of fun with it. I thought good for her. More power to you.

Zachary K. (Swiftie)

Something weird happened during Cassie's reaction confused me a little. She said, "I finally figured out who that mustache guy is" and then a minute later we get the "be right back" moment. Her reaction then continues, and we get deeper into the movie, and she says, "Who IS the mustache guy?" Anyone else notice that?

Shawn Kildal

Did anyone ever mention to Cassie there was an Animated Series of Star Trek done in the 70's? Most of the original cast supplied their voices to it.

Shawn Kildal

In the original script, Lt. Saavik from Wrath of Khan and Search for Spock was supposed to be the Vulcan traitor, but Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry vetoed that, and so the writers created a new character instead.

Shawn Kildal

Cassie doing her double "space peace" signs NEEDS to be her thumbnail picture for the YouTube video of this!!

The Episodes to watch for TNG, in my opinion and forgoing many great episodes, are: Required: Q Who Best of Both Worlds I & II Family Good for Context: Encounter at Farpoint All Good Things Who Watches the Watchers TOS Cameos: Sarek Unification I & II Relics Essential viewing for TNG: Measure of a Man Darmok Tapestry

In fact, the reason the President is looking around panicked is because his species is blind, so he can't actually see what's happening.

Chrissonator

I'd throw in Best of Both Worlds 2-parter and Family, as well.

Chrissonator

Yes I find billionaire celebrities virtue signalling their superior morality and complaining about being oppressed to be inspiring

Hail to the King

Now that we are done with the Original Crew, I am curious how we are going to handle TNG. I guess it would depend on what the end goal is. Do you want to just prepare for the TNG movies, or do you want to get a good sense of the crew/show in general? If you only watch say 6-8 episodes, those are going to be two different sets of episodes.

Verteron

You’re not saying goodbye… you’re just about to say hello to new friends. I can’t wait for you to meet Data.

djKENTO

I was waiting for this reaction. Star Trek VI is my favorite original cast movie. The whole cast gets some time to shine. Great send off for the classic crew. I'll say it, General Chang is a better villain than Khan. Granted they are basically the same guy. Both want to kill Kirk and quote classic literature. Chang is just more fun to watch in my opinion. I've watched that last battle scene more times than I care to admit.

Verteron

All Good Things is maybe the best series finale ever But to get All Good Things you need to sit through Encounter at Farpoint and the 5 minute slow motion docking scene 😂 This is hard! 😬

While not as tight of a script as 2, this was always my favourite growing up. This movie was a direct call out to the end of the Cold War and the fall of the USSR, with both that event and this movie happening the same year. It is easily the most overtly political movie out of all the ST movies. The title of The Undiscovered Country as a term for the future was fitting, as this chapter of the characters was coming to a close. The themes of those afraid of the future, and afraid off change in the movie, while at the same time, preparing and signalling to the audience that, change and loss was coming with the series end, that the audience as much as the characters should not be afraid of what comes next. It is okay for things to end and for things to change. It was truly the most fitting messaging to end the characters on. The use of Shakespeare throughout the film was in large part to Christopher Plummer, a long time Shakespearian stage actor. With Shakespeare, his language is often playful, and the specific lines and phrases used were picked specifically, for the context of the stories they were pulled from and how they fit into the movie. Of note, the larger names in the guest cast: Plummer, Cattrall, Warner, multiple other cast members show up in the other ST TV series as well. Then you have the smallest of roles from one young very baby Christin Slater. As for TNG if you are looking for a few episodes to pick out. I think there is a general consensus among the fandom, but I will submit my recs. S1: E1 (two parts), E8, E9, E12, E22, E24, E25. S2: E4, E8, E9, E16, E21, S3: E4, E10, E15, E16, E19, E22, E24, E26, S4: E1-2 (Season 3 episode 26 to Season 4 Episode 2 are a three part story) E9, E12, E15, E20, E21, E26, S5: E1, E2, E3, E5, E6, E7 -8, E18, E19, E24, E25, E26 S6: E1, E4, E7, E8, E10-11, E15, E18, E20, E24, E25 S7: E4-5, E11, E12, E15, E24, E25-26

Michael G

Woman, did you really not sit through the end signatures??? Come on, now! Lol

Julian San

Galaxy Quest should definitely be on the list after TNG. It's hilarious

John Sullivan

First, ones necessary to watching movies is FAMILY. Other episodes to watch: Tapestry, Yesterday's enterprise, Darmok, the borg" Especially darmok, my personal favorite. EDIT: also drumhead

ExploreWinnipeg

definitely sub rosa and code of honor

Cassie if you do indeed go back and watch more of the original series, please keep us in the loop if you could (I assume these won't be reaction videos, which is perfectly fine of course). Love to hear your thoughts on them. Some are way better than others. If you would like a list of only the remaining top tier episodes, just let me know.

Shawn Kildal

Nice reaction Cassie! Nice way to finish up the original series of films Looking forward to Star Trek: The Next Generation This is the Star Trek I grew up on. Of course, I have seen all the Original Star Trek movies with Kirk, Spock, etc…But I didn’t see the original TV series until I was an adult. Even then, I’ve only seen a handful to this day. Not sure if you’ve narrowed down which episodes of The Next Generation you’re gonna watch to get acquainted with the characters. But may I suggest: S1. Ep.1 “Encounter at Farpoint S2. Ep.16 “Q Who” An episode with Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg) not sure which episode And maybe throw in S6. Ep. 4 “Relics” (Just because the original Scotty makes an appearance)

Robert da Spruce

The short haired blonde lady that was on the Excelsior was Janice Rand. She was Captain Kirk's yeoman officer and played a significant role in the early episodes in the first season of the original series. If Cassie had watched those episodes, she would have said "I see sparks!".

Shawn Kildal

Amen. But if you mistake CGI for storytelling and characterization, they’re perfect.

Just Plain Bob

you don't need to watch the Chris Pine ones they're not star trek.

pat on

A good sendoff for the TOS crew. Now I wonder how to condense TNG eps to a good representative sample... I hope "Measure of a Man" makes it in.

Gabriel L.

Funny... I was always more of a Wars fan than a Trek fan. Trek having so many more movies turned into a joke since they had so many bad ones. Then Disney said 'Hold my Beer". As kids, we all joked you could all just skip the Odd # Trek movies because only the Even # Trek movies are worth watching. I believe if we add Galaxy Quest to the list as the Tenth Star Trek movie and don't give the reboots any quarter, this notion still holds up. Cassie might have to rewatch Galaxy Quest as the Tenth movie. I believe she'd have a totally different take on the movie now.

Powers209

When you said “he’s the best doctor the Enterprise has ever seen!” I got real excited cuz I want you to meet Dr. M’Benga who was the first doctor on the ship. Really great character you’ll meet in the prequel series Strange New worlds.

djKENTO

Now tie it back to his final line in Wrath of Khan: "I feel young."

Texas Anla'Shok

Cassie leaning forward for most of the film, shows how much she was enjoying the experience.

John Liebling

OH NO...you didn't watch all he autographs at the end...all of the original crew's autographs precede the closing credits as a goodby.

PianoDean

Good for you Cassie spotting Red. He's also the crazy dude in RoboCop.

John Liebling

Theatrical

"2nd star to the right and straight on 'til morning". Directions to Neverland from Peter Pan.

Shawn Kildal

Btw, the Colonel Worf that defended Kirk and McCoy in the Klingon Trial, is the paternal grandfather of Lt. Worf from the TNG Crew. The same actor, Michael Dorn, plays both characters.

hurryupmode

It's hard to believe we're all here. Took us a bit of time to get here. Sure some got here a little faster than others but finally we all made it. This movie in the series was a wonderful send-off for my crew of the Star Ship Enterprise. " Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning." Neverland sounds like the perfect place for this crew to begin their last adventure. When searching this quote, I find more Trek references than Peter Pan. I find that even more interesting after watching this movie.

Powers209

Excited for you to get to TNG. I think if you're going to watch TNG episodes before tackling the movies, you'll definitely want to watch the episodes with TOS crew members in them. I hope you come to love the TNG Crew as much as you love TOS's.

hurryupmode

Rura Penthe, from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea!

Cassie, that evil pirate was singing Edelweiss 26 years before Undiscovered Country.

John Liebling

Most people will say Star Trek II is the best Star Trek movie. Since I've watched all of your full reactions I finally realize that I have two favorites. Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan is probably the best written, borrowing from Moby Dick, Paradise Lost, and King Lear, but Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country has my heart. I love and appreciate both in different ways. Star Trek VI probably means more to those of us who lived through the collapse of the Soviet Union and all the parallels this movie invoked. I'm gratified that you seem to get it...and have such a short history of watching these characters. The teaser trailer for this movie best sums up how I feel about the original crew: "For one-quarter of a century, they have thrilled us with their adventures . Amazed us with their discoveries and inspired us with their courage. Their ship has journeyed beyond imagination. Her name has become legend. Her crew – the finest ever assembled. We have traveled beside them from one corner of the galaxy to the other. They have been our guides, our protectors, and our friends. Now, you are invited to join them for one last adventure For at the end of history lies…The Undiscovered Country."

T J

Yes, those first two seasons were the worst. It gets much better by the third season. Based on the final season, I think they should have ended after season six and concentrate on movies. But First Contact is a very good film.

thansen

To me one of the biggest missteps of TNG was making the Klingons allies of the UFP. I know they had to do it because they were seen as the Soviets and everyone wanted to see them as eventual 'fast friends'. But Worf never really fit in with Starfleet, no matter how hard they tried. And that weird forced romance near the end of the series. What was that all about?

thansen

I mean, you don't HAVE to miss them - there are plenty more eps of the original series you'd enjoy! ;)

Robin T

I grew up watching these characters in reruns in the 70s. With 79 episodes, it accounted for almost sixty hours of programming or the equivalent of more than thirty movies. I’ve watched every episode and every movie featuring the original crew many times over. And I’ve never grown tired of them or their adventures. The show and the movies offer much to think about but what makes it work so well is the friendships among the characters. Cassie caught on to that immediately and she’s 100% correct. After following their adventures for almost fifty years, I still weep like a bereft child at the end of Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country. Thankfully, I can always turn to the tv series and start the adventure all over again.

Just Plain Bob

Well, I'm impressed you singled out Valeris.

Texas Anla'Shok

Cassie, I must say I really respect the way you tackled this series. You did your research by watching some of the original episodes before you got into the movies and that shows true dedication to what you are doing. I'm so glad you enjoyed these original Star Treks. Now you know what a whole generation of kids and later adults felt about it all, seeing the series and then the movies on the big screen. I always tear up at the end of this one, because it was goodbye to an era. I can only imagine what it must have been like for the actors, who had first seen their show cancelled only to be brought back years later for six incredible films, reprising their roles. Can't think of any other time in film history this has happened.

sharkey197

Kirk's Klingon defense attorney is the actor Michael Dorn...he plays Worf, a very brave and honorable Klingon on Star Trek The Next Generation.

John Liebling

the world of game of thronesss awaiiitssss - OoOoo

Chris

ICYMI.. you may remember that Kirk's tender quote "Second star to right..and straight on til morning" is Peter Pan. ...and I'm not crying.. you're crying.

Michael Enos

Don't be discouraged by the 1st season episodes (and earlier 2nd season) of Next Generation. It took a little while for the writers and actors to find the core of the characters. It does get really good by the 3rd season and beyond (you just need some of the early season to give you the needed info for the later episodes). Hang in there and you will experience Next Gen TV episodes that make you as excited as this movie.

D. T. Nelson

Don't skip too many TNG episodes 🙏 There are plenty of great ones (but only 1 good TNG movie 😬)

John Sullivan

Interesting that you are watching two David Warner films (Sark, Tron) & (Chancellor Gorkon) very close to each other.

Old Glory Defender

Christopher Plummer was one of the best at playing villains, he had that way of being somehow both dignified and slippery in a lot of his roles. This one was great, love Sulu as a captain and helping save the day, after Spock he was always my favorite character. And Worf making an appearance was awesome, he's one of my favorites From TNG. Can't wait for the Next Generation reactions!

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

mmmm Sharon Acker kept it from the worst list, imo

Keith Jones

Pity. lol Well, I got both, so no biggy. haha

Chrissonator

I don't think she needs to watch the whole series to do the TNG movies...

Chrissonator

Perfect ending for the original crew, FYI don't forget to watch the episode "Relics" when you start watching The next generation episodes.

Jack Pflieder

Remember Chernobyl? That was a direct inspiration for this film, not so much the disaster itself, but the fallout, leading to the collapse of the Soviet Union. There's references to the Cold War all throughout this, from the "old Vulcan proverb" to Chang's demand of "Don't wait for the translation, just answer it now!" which is the demand made by US ambassador Aldai Stevenson of Soviet Ambassador Valerian Zorin during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Texas Anla'Shok

There's a director's cut?

JPDotCom23

One of the great joys of these films, is with each passing movie, watching the cast just have more and more fun. It shines through in their performances, and what makes the characters so endearing and a joy to watch. Second star to the right......

Michael G

Hey everyone..I’m halfway through the reaction….this is the THEATRICAL EDITION for the record

Walter Crockett

My favorite of the franchise I think. Even ahead of Khan.

Miguel

Is this the theatrical or directors cut?

Cody Nelson

Ooh, when Chekov said the "Guess who's coming to dinner?" line, Cassie connected it to the 1967 movie, as was intended. Could it be a sign, eh, Cassie? 😁

MikeLL

Yes, indeed, a totally unnecessary comment.

MikeLL

I still remember watching this with my father in the Theatre when I was like 13. We didn’t know at the time if there would ever be a return of Kirk and the original crew, it really is a great send off.

Mayan Luevano

Skip TNG if the whole series isn't going to be reacted to right now. The reboots are fun and Cassie is familiar with those characters. TNG can be an exciting return to the ST universe later down the line. ST fans should know better than to recommend slicing and dicing TNG series.

Andrew Ramos

Theatrical cut or Director's cut?

Matt Rose

45 seconds in, re: ST5 - I said, "Right, it wasn't that bad..." And then I said, "It ain't The Mark of Gideon!" (one of THE worst TOS eps ever done imo (and many agree))

MertzRocks

Every day deserves a good Elf quote! Glad you loved, Cassie! Hope you are well! God bless.

Above Average Dave

Are we done with these old ones yet

Philip G.

Jack Messick

I think she should jump to the reboot movies. It would be a continuation of the original characters she's already familiar with and they happen to be great movies. The heart and soul of TNG is the tv shows. The movies are just bonus material. Slicing and dicing TNG series in order to jump to the movies is like taking two bites of the top of the line T-Bone or Chicken Provençal in order to get to the free salted chips and generic salsa. There are seriously too many good, no great, episodes to cherry pick a few that relate to the movies. It's fine if Cassie doesn't have the time to react to TNG right now. I vote she waits until she has the time. Even if it's 3 years from now. Or even if she reacts to an episode once a month. I'm rarely one to comment with a strong opinion on reaction decisions over a show/movie but this times it calls for it. I remember patreons discussing ST on the discord server well over a year ago. I never would have imagined ST fans would recommend skipping TNG series.

Andrew Ramos

It's 4am in Britain, well I suppose I've got some time to get some toast and watch Star Trek before the sun comes up...

Hail to the King

Cass I'll have to wait until tomorrow to watch. Don't worry, if you TRUST us like you did with TOS, you will really enjoy TNG!!! And this is sci-fi, are any of these characters "really gone"?😉😘 My favorite Trek was always TNG, but because of your new reactions to TOS, I realized why I've always said the OG crew was the best! Thanks again.

Todzilla

Fitting outro for the most loyal crew in Starfleet,ST6 makes up for ST5!♡

Celeste McAllister

Finally! This is the best Trek film after Wrath in my opinion!

Benjamin Gerrald

So glad you liked this. I definitely agree: the perfect send-off for this crew(family, really, in my opinion). So happy Star Trek V wasn't the last we saw from them.

sarCC

Il be watching tomorrow after work! The second watch a long for this fine movie!

RJ MacReady

I felt the same, excellent movie, hit all the right beats, big stakes, great character moments... and when they sign their signature at the end... first time I've had full body chills during a credits sequence!

SpiffMan

Again, reboot Trek movies anyone? With one exception no one really cares for the TNG movies, you would do better to do the great TNG episodes, and more than four.

Andrew Roach

I see Taylor Swift won tonight at the Grammys. I kind of like her music but I am a bigger fan of her stance on human rights issues, causing mass panic at a certain cable news network that I find repulsive. Cassie changed my mind on her. My girlfriend got me to watch Americana on Netflix. Totally changed the way I saw Taylor as person. So thank you Cassie for your help to change my mind on her. Although I personally don't like Star Trek or anything to do with it. I still support you in any way I can. Which includes just watching your reaction, without watching the movie. So shout-out to Cassie Thank you

Zachary K. (Swiftie)

Agree, the best way to end their journey. Anxious to watch!!

Brent Fugett

It's 930pm when I got notice of this event. I was on bed trying to get to sleep..but now, I flung myself off my bed and screamed "CRY HAVOC AND LET LOOSE THE BAG OF POPCORN !"

Anthony Perez

YES! I’ve been waiting for ST6! I’m watching this immediately. Thanks, Cassie!

Rod Reavern

“Cry Havoc!! And let the reaction begin.”

Ike

Yes. My favourite from the OG crew 😍

Wes

Wrath of Khan is PROBably the best of the TOS Trek movies…but VI is my favorite.

Jason Chirevas

VI was a good way to end that series of movies Glad you enjoyed that one

Bill Maurer

Don't worry. We'll see these characters again through a fresh lens in the new films.

aarswft

Yay. Looking forward to tonight. Where I shall watch by myself. With the reaction as well of course.

Brian McGovern

Yes!
