Tron Legacy (2010) - Full Reaction

This one was the first reaction I got to do with my kids (in the theater room, not on camera)! It was really fun (although one of them zonked out before it was over 🥰). I thought this was a great sequel with the new premise, verrrry upgraded graphics, cool looking color and amazing sound/music... and it still had lots of callbacks to the original! Jeff bridges still has it! Hope you enjoy!

Tron Legacy (2010) - Full Reaction

Comments

It’s worth a watch for two words; Olivia Wilde ❤️❤️❤️

Joe M

Tron 3 started filming last week, so guess it’ll be a Christmas release.

Biggman83

Tron 3 Kora creates a super computer designed to protect the world using the company resources and merges her consciousness with the hardware creating a super computer called Skynet. Skynet realizes the futility of aiding a self-destructive race, goes rough and declares nuclear war on mankind. The few survivors are lead by John Connor forming a resistance against the machines.

Edwin

"I fight... for the USERS!" gives me chills every single time.

SpiffMan

First time watching this movie. It was good. It brought me back to the original movie. I liked that it had two of the original characters. Nice job Cassie.

Rick Williams

Because Cassie's already reacted to it.

Odd Thomas

Fun movie. Drags a little in the middle where I think you lost your boy. I nodded off myself. Still liked it though. I’m one of those movie narcoleptics anyway. I feel asleep in the imax theater during Godzilla Minus One!

Scott Macaulay

I love this film despite not being wild on the Sam character. The visuals and sound from French band Daft Punk (whom appear in the End of Line Club in their traditional helmets) are absolutely sublime. It's the deeper philosophical questions that the film puts forwards that are sadly mainly unexplored which are most interesting. Flynn programs Clu to create a perfect and flawless system, and they do. They create perfect Order. But in that "landscape" of perfect Order spawns Chaos. Yin and Yang. Good and Evil. The reflections that we see throughout the film of Flynn and Clu. That is the interesting stuff which is barely hinted upon because we need 20 min action sequences to keep (most of) the kids awake. But I think the key message this film puts forwards is thus - we need more retro video game arcades !

pinkdino99

They are filming Tron 3 right now. No returning Tron 2 cast and Jared Leto is starring and producing. I'm not expecting much.

Mike Lemon

Cassie, you might know Daft Punk’s song Get Lucky featuring Pharrell Williams. They looked like the DJs in the “bar” scene when Zuse betrays Sam and the music starts playing with the fighting

Tara

I would be lying if I understood what was really going on this film. But the visuals and score are superb. The CGI of young Jeff Bridges is spotty at times but it never really bothered me. And it helps to have a gorgeous Olivia Wilde. I do wonder when another Tron movie will be made. I hope it's not Disney, with their recent track record of woke garbage.

thansen

I love this movie and it's very worthy as a sequel. That said, I can't forgive the mishandling of the reunion scene with his dad. It's fine on re-watch once you know that Kevin is running through the implications of the pager, knowing be didn't send that, but it's unforgivable to rob the audience of the emotion of the moment with a plot point that isn't well enough covered. Final thought... "I fight... for the users!" is so well delivered and gives me chills to this day.

SpiffMan

That's so awesome. I didn't know she is a Broadway actress.

StaticBlaster

How could you not also mention Top Gun: Maverick?

Brian McGovern

This movie might not have been as good as I wanted but I do love the score.

JohnnyUtah

Ollvia Wilde is attractive. I saw her in the 1984 play on Broadway in 2017. I was sitting in the front row. She was very active on stage. Good performance.

Clay F

This movie is amazing!!! I love Olivia Wilde as Quorra.

StaticBlaster

When I watched the movie, I also zonked out before the movie was over. Daft Punk was a phenomenon. My son liked them.

Clay F

Way better than the original.. Daft Punks score was amazing..

Johnny Bullis

This movie means a lot to me. I love the storyline of the father never giving up on his son, even to the very end, since I personally did not have a father growing up. This is one of my favorite comfort movies when I wanna escape reality. So glad you enjoyed it!

DaftBasterd

I originally watched Tron Legacy in 3D IMAX. I also had a 3D TV and the 3D Blu-ray. I miss watching this movie in 3D. I don't recall if Tron Legacy was filmed in 3D like the Avatar films, but it's lost some of its magic in 2D. I still enjoyed it overall. The visual style is amazing, the CG mostly holds up (aside from the digital de-aging on Jeff Bridges in the past and as CLU), the soundtrack was spectacular (Daft Punk did the entire soundtrack), and the main characters were intriguing (if slightly under-developed). Flynn referenced a lot of philosophy but didn't delve very deep, other than gaining the wisdom to admit that his pursuit of perfection was misguided and self-defeating, which was embodied in CLU's tunnel vision, betrayal, and ultimate downfall. As much as I enjoyed Tron Legacy, it's slow-ish pacing hinders it from being rewatched regularly. The last time I watched it was at least 5 years ago (definitely before I replaced my 3D TV) and I don't think I'll watch it again until Tron 3 is released, however many years that is from now. IF the theatres screen Tron Legacy in 3D IMAX again prior to Tron 3's release, I'll 100% see it! I'd recommend Cassie and others to watch Tron Legacy in 3D if the opportunity arises because it's how it was meant to be seen!

Rod Reavern

I saw that movie at age 11 opening weekend. Nobody could have dragged me out of that theater.

MotoDork

Cause they would likely fall asleep in the first few minutes. I know in the 80s as a kid I did, even though I really like it now.

YodatheHobbit

Well hopefully you & your family have a blast at Disney World, I don’t know anything about the Tron ride, but I know it would probably be fun for you guys. And you are right about Sam’s Chip, because this January the set for Tron 3 has already started filming!!

FranciscoGios

That techno song you mentioned was Darude - Sandstorm. hahahhaha

George Washington

I love this film so much. I get it has some issues, especially the final act, but its still so good. I loved your reaction as always. One note, Olivia Wilde's eyes are so big and stunning that they didn't have to touch them up at all in post.

Farbod

the guy playing Sam, his name is Garrett Hedlund and he has made some really good movies even better by being part of them and I'm talking Four Brothers, Georgia Rule and Country Strong, to name a few. and he plays very different characters in all those, which really showcases his range. I'm sure he's been in a lot more stuff, I just can't remember them all atm.

Mister Lou

You asked if the actor who played ‘Sam’ was in anything else? Why, yes, Cassie, he’s in ‘Friday Night Lights,’ which is a sports movie. If I recall, you and Carly have jerseys for it.

Lamar Smith

Why in the world would you not let your kids see the first TRON before watching this? Definitely let them watch it.

MotoDork

Yes...just his "cousin".

aarswft

It was the number 14 movie in the world that year but Disney considered it a "failure".

Mike Lemon

They are shooting Tron 3 at the moment!

Odd Thomas

yeah but Sam and Quorra should continue their story… it’s a big deal that Quorra is in the real world.

djKENTO

ONLY THE BRAVE is excellent. I was genuinely surprised at just how good that one was. I liked OBLIVION better than TRON: LEGACY but again, the script felt undercooked.

Matt Rose

They are working on it again it seems.

Chuck Jacobson

Big Trouble is one of my all time favorite movies!

Robert Haynes

I won't disagree. I think another problem with THE IRISHMAN was with the fact that they were also asking DeNiro/Pesci/Pacino to ACT like their younger selves when they weren't physically able to do so. Case in point, there's a scene where DeNiro's character as a 'younger man' is kicking a guy on the ground. It's clearly an elderly man kicking the guy and it doesn't work. Also, all of the de-aging tech in the world can't fix the fact that Pacino now has a stooped neck. Good movie but they really should have deep-faked their faces on younger men.

Matt Rose

I'm not convinced de-aging is there now. See 'The Irishman'.

AdrianF

Other films by Joseph Kosinski that are equally good: Only The Brave (based on a true story and has Jeff Bridges again) and Oblivion with Tom Cruise (excellent sci-fi - plenty of romance too!)

Odd Thomas

Well they made sure enough in this movie that Jeff Bridges wouldn't be back/that they didn't need him for future movies.

Mike LL

There was a Tron 3 in the works after this movie was released, but Legacy didn't live up to expectations in the eyes of Disney so it was scrapped. The necklace around Sam's neck is his dad's program. I believe the plan in Tron 3 was for Sam to somehow bring back his dad.

Dustin Denner

Glad you enjoyed it. Personally, I think the script needed another go because a lot of the plotting feels undercooked, especially the whole bit on who Rinzler is. Also, the special effects to de-age Bridges into Clu were really not there yet. The other special effects were great and the soundtrack was stupendous but that's about it. I much prefer the more cohesive original film.

Matt Rose

You must watch Ready Player One

Daniel N

Garret Hedlund is the actor that played "Sam FLynn". The most notable thing most people would probably know him from is "Troy" where he plays the cousin of "Achilles" (Brad Pitt), "Patroclus".

Mojo One Thousand

"Hours in here were just minutes back home." Flynn was trapped in system for about 1000 "years" before Sam showed up.

Mike Lemon

I saw an interview with Jeff Bridges when this came out where he said when they started shooting the director was worried that people might think Flynn was a rip off of the dude and thought about toning it down. Jeff Bridges told them he wanted to do the opposite. That people who knew the original would expect Flynn to have that kind of personality. And for people who didn’t see the original, he didn’t mind if they thought of him as “the digital dude”

Will C

Nice reaction! It was nice that you shared it with your boys too. Jeff Bridges added a gravitas to the movie. Otherwise it would not have been as good as it was. Shame the overall response to it didn't warrant a sequel to this one.

Roger Hagerty

You caught the Edward Dillenger Jr. name, in the bonus features there is a conversation that hints at the third movie (hoped for at the time) EDJ_0431 > Dad...did you see this? MCTRL_751> Yes. Will this be a problem? EDJ_0431> No. Minor bump in the road. Nothing I can't handle. MCTRL_751> He may not be his father but he is still a Flynn. Don't underestimate him. END OF LINE MCTRL had a familiar British voice... link to bonus features (conversation is the second one, at 12:20 to 13:00)- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ta5TDcb5V9k

Mike Lemon

Oh wow, I didn't realize until seeing your comment that that IS his name as the same director! I also really liked Oblivion, although I think at the time I first saw that I knew it was the same director as TRON Legacy. No wonder I always think of Top Gun during the air battle.

YodatheHobbit

"knocking on the sky and listening to the sound" I think is basically just meditating. I know that it appears like he exploded himself to destroy CLU and the army on it's way to invade our world, but I like to imagine Kevin Flinn merged with The Grid and still lives on in it. Cool to think about how the whole Grid now lives on Sam's neck. One thing I love about these two movies is how one can think of it in terns of how the graphics of games progress. Back in the 80s game graphics weren't all that complex, and a person can imagine looking at them up close, when put into the game/grid the graphics look like they did in the original TRON film. You can imagine Flinn upgraded the graphics of the new Grid to how it appears now back in 1989. He was ahead of his time. He created CLU with the graphics he had before they finished The Grid, so in my head canon that's how I rationalize how outdated the graphics of CLU's CGI young Kevin face looks. TRON's reprograming back to his old self could have been a bit better done, and more gradual, but I still love the concept his return to good at the end enough for it to not matter. "I fight for the users!" still gives me goosebumps. I wish Alan had some closure about his old program TRON and although the film gives that vibe at the end that Alan was great, saying he was right about everything, i just wish TRON's heroism and selflessness was more celebrated. I also wish we had more new scenes with young TRON in the flashbacks.

YodatheHobbit

The graphics and sound track are great (much better than the original), but unless you have a basic understanding of programming and just how a computer works - that aspect of the story might be a little hard to follow, especially for kids as young as yours are Cassie. I thought the CGI JB just didnt seem right although it was still a fairly new attempt at CGI de-aging in a movie. I like this movie better than the original but I have to just enjoy it for what it is,.... Another great reaction - looking fwd to ST 6 later this week. It always seems these get released right about the time I was going to go to bed, so I end up staying up late watching them. Another movie that has music that is similar (at least at the end credits) is the Bourne Identity and the follow on movies Extreme Ways by Moby. And for an old school movie that also has great music with a young Matthew Modine in Vision Quest,... its about a high school wrestler with a dream.

ENC SW DV Rush

Love this movie to death, it was everything I wanted to see as a child 🥹

Mayan Luevano

Daft Punk did the entire score with the help of another composer named Joseph Trapanese. You’ll know Daft Punk for their song One More Time or Get Lucky with Pharrell. https://youtu.be/CCHdMIEGaaM?si=9ldCmiE44tjPH7FX This movie also has the same director as Top Gun Maverick. They’re currently working on a TRON 3 with Jared Leto, but from what I understand there are no returning actors. Seems confusing to me. there is also Tron:: Uprising, an animated series that stars Elijah Wood and from the art director of Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse.

djKENTO

Is it me or does Olivia Wilde with that hair and make-up not look like an anime character literally came to life? Love that the kids liked it, I never had kids but I think if I had, showing them my favorite movies would have been so fun, movies like Big Trouble In Little China (haha subtle plug for a reaction).

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Every reaction Cassie has is pure gold. Although I didn't watch the movie because it doesn't interest me. Just watching her reaction was good enough for me. As always Godspeed Cassie

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Tron 3 currently in the works. With Jared Leto

John Drake

Indeed! And how about prime Jeff in "Against All Odds" - the remake of the old Robert Mitchum -movie...("Out Of The Past") - and what a breautiful Rachel Ward in that as well...

Jens Kristensen

Great stuff! I saw this at the local theater when it came out, and I was blown away! What a fantastic and entertaining - I even saw it in 3D, which I normally hate, but that time was by far my best 3D-experience.... The story is cool, the actors brilliant, the graphics fantastic and the musical score by Daft Punk is down right sensational... I was fearing some electronic score like in the vein of their own material, but it was just outstanding... It had me hooked right from the start - in the intro where Jeff Bridges tells of TRON and he says: - "But then.... one day..." - - His kid continues: "You got in?" Jeff: "That's right... I got in..." - and then the fantastic music kicks in!

Jens Kristensen

For me, the music is the highlight of this movie. Even I enjoy and listen to this soundtrack, despite not being a fan of electric music. The visuals are also great, apart from young JB which was deep in uncanny valley. Yet the movie itself I find somewhat lacking but can't really pinpoint why. But I do enjoy it more than the original. Apparently, Disney is making a third movie in this series and production just started. Although it seems that none of the actors from the previous movies will return for that and it will be an independent story.

Gábor Árki

I fell asleep when I first saw it, too! And it was in IMAX. So many long, drawn-out scenes of them talking nonsense. The music was great, though, and it was funny seeing Jeff Bridges basically playing The Dude again.

sarCC

Daft Punk did the musical score for this film, and they have an appearence in it. Can't get any better than that xD

LightsCameraJake

Huge production values over the original for sure!..more Jeff Bridges in 'Tucker:A Man and His Dream',you Cassie are a great mom!👍🌹 :)

Celeste McAllister

Neat that Daft Punk are actually the DJs in the club scene.

DAVID COSTELLO

Yeah been into Daft Punk since the 90s, and when you mentioned you'd be watching this I started listening to the soundtrack again, been listening to it for a week lol.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

That song you were "singing" in the intro is called Sandstorm by Darude. Great jam.

My_Cousin_Mose

Can't wait for this, but it's 7am here and don't think anybody else will appreciate it right now... it's such a great soundtrack; the bar scene is awesome.
