Here is the full reaction to this movie.

[YT Edit] Tron (1982)

Comments

Im not going to watch a making of a film that i don't like. But I was a little kid when this was released so im not going to deny my perception or memory could be warped?. I'm happy to be educated on something im wrong about. What's untrue?

Don

While I enjoyed playing the game Tron on my Intellivision, I remember being a little disappointed in the graphics of the movie (after watching Star Wars ep 4 & ep 5). What I did like about it was it kind of made sense to a teenager about how programs might interact with each other in a digital world (and yet knowing it was not only improbable but impossible at the same time). I enjoyed the concept it was trying to give - it was a way of explaining how computers worked to a society that didnt use or understand how computers worked for the most part - I think at that time - less than 10% of the population owned PCs, and even cell phones were a rareity and a novelty. They certainly didnt have any internet capability yet. After having worked at Intel, the best (easiest) way of explaining the pathways of a cpu (computer processing unit)/(the brains of a computer) would be this: Take a city street map of new york city - expand that to all the way across the US, then make it 6-7 layers deep and then take all of that and miniaturize that to the size of a microchip and that is essentially what the pathways look like. The other way of explaining in a very simplistic way of how a computer works is this - it completes one action at a time - one command per line of code/programming - it just does it very fast, and if you have multiple cpus - then it can do as many things as you have cpus at a time - it just does them all so fast that it seems like it is doing multiple things at once. Of course, with new programming languages, it makes it more complicated, but it still does one command at a time - just super fast - faster than we can do or see it. edit - Looking fwd to Tron Legacy - if you liked this one - you will enjoy that one better. Another great reaction.

Untrue. Watch the making of documentary on YouTube.

YodatheHobbit

Based on the New Tron...Is that Jimmy Neutron?

So have I

MotoDork

I've been refreshing every handful of minutes for about the last five hours hoping it is tonight's movie, and hoping it gets posted before bedtime.

Mike Lemon

You know what I keep thinking about? TRON Legacy

MotoDork

They're actually starting the filming of "TR3N" but given all the new actors involved with none of the originals returning, I don't think it's a true sequel, but who knows.

DaftBasterd

Considered breakthrough CGI at the time. We've come a loooong way since then.

Paul Rich

She already reacted to Starman in 2021. Only a full reaction is available, so it's exclusive to the watch along tiers.

Gábor Árki

And Indiana Jones love Marion(Karen Allen)

Steph

For an excellent Jeff Bridges movies, watch Starman. Highly underrated.

This came out when I was in high school (THAT dates me). My friends and I were all into computers and programming back then, so this movie spoke to us. The writing was pretty bad and the image quality of the film barely met the expectations of the day, but we all enjoyed it anyway, just for the concept. Today, I definitely prefer the newer Tron Legacy. The screenwriting is definitely better. As you you go forward with the Star Trek movies, keep an eye out for one of the actors from this movie (the original Tron). Let's see if you recognize him...

D. T. Nelson

This movie has become a cult fav over time. It wasn’t well received when released and Disney let it fade away. I remember trying to get a copy of it on vhs (or dvd) in the 90s was like trying to find the ark of the covenant in an Area 51 warehouse. It’s nice that a new generation of filmmakers gave it new life.

Ria Grix

I appreciate Tron for what it was and what it achieved in the ‘80s. Tron: Legacy is much more refined and epic. The new lead actor unfortunately didn’t have a fraction of Jeff Bridges charisma or charm, but Jeff Bridges was great as basically a Tron Jedi Master, and Olivia Wild was fantastic! It’s a shame that Tron Legacy didn’t get a sequel — perhaps some day.

Rod Reavern

Lol would love to see Cassie react to the short series Automan 😄 🤣

Danika Silva

Ram has a pretty big part in Tron: The Next Day (special feature for after Legacy) - 0:00 - 10:20. Also check out 12:20 - 13:00 for a teaser to what the third movie could have been. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ta5TDcb5V9k

Tron is definitely not a classic. I think even when this was released people weren’t that impressed with those effects. Some of the visuals are great but the actual effects of the “games” or the big sets and so on looked a few years out of date at the time. At least when it got to tv in the uk anyway. It used to get shown a lot on Saturday mornings. We only had 4 channels at the time and I remember several times being disappointed that this was on….again. It’s not a bad movie though but I had no memory of any of it after they crash and get captured at the end. I think that’s when I always lost interest. All that said it was still fun to watch along with Cassie. Let’s get to Crocodile Dundee!

Don

The HVAC company I use for my home is AirTron.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

Tron has an actor connection to both Star Trek VI and the movie Time After Time connects a Tron actor, and Star Trek VI actor, and another actor with Generations the sort of 7th film, the one that tosses the baton from the original Shatner crew and the Patrick Stewart Next Generation crew.

John Liebling

Another film unlike any other would be the Robin Williams and Robert De Niro flick called Awakenings with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 84 and an audience score of 89. It's another one of my personal favorites. I like films with big hearts, show the human condition for what it is. It's also based on a true story. Whatever your expectations might be, you'll never be able to predict this one.

John Liebling

Hi Cassie, perhaps a March or April Jeff Bridges festival would include the following: 1. The Last Picture Show 1971 - baby bridges...Rotten Tomatoes score of 98. 2. The Fabolous Baker Boys (1989) Rotten Tomatoes score of 97. 3. Hell, or High Water (2016) Rotten Tomatoes score 97. 4. Crazy Heart (2009) Rotten Tomatoes score of 90. 5. Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974) Rotten Tomatoes score of 88. And my personal favorite...6. The Fischer King (1991) Rotten Tomatoes score of 85. Robin Williams is an incredible talent...this one will certainly tug at your heartstrings. Bring the box of tissues.

Loved this YT edit so much, I'll have to watch the full length one later this week. You kept questioning on whether you were understanding what was happening, but you had it right each time! I loved that it took you a bit to pick up that the programs were played by the same actors as the people who wrote them. It makes me wonder, what are RAM and CHROME's users like in the real world?

Rick Moreno

I played plenty of Centipede growing up but my jam was Defenders if anyone remembers that lol.

Andrew Rose

Been there, done that. Although Centipede wasn't really my jam, I can't count how many quarters I lost on Gauntlet. :-)

Mark Schamber

I can't wait to see your reaction to Tron: Legacy. You will go NUTS over the soundtrack from DaftPunk. And it's not "cartoony". Tron: Legacy is a very underrated SEQUEL to Tron.

Mark Schamber

Actor David Warner the villain you will see in Star Trek V and VI

Keith Brown

I’m curious how you’ll take this one, in many ways it’s an acquired taste. You have to remember when this was and just how little most people had access to a computer. Those of us that did have them really tend to adore Tron, it’s definitely one of the films that solidified what I’d do for a living. Been in tech since ‘93, professionally, but really since before this movie as a hobby. This, Last Starfighter, War Games and later, Hackers, are definite influences for my generation of geeks. If you look deep enough you’ll find references to this one at the heart of the Internet. I mean, we had to as we built a global network.

Darren Young

I can't wait for Tron: Legacy!

Nick Parker

Tron Legacy was a bit better, plus great Daft Punk soundtrack.

Marcos

The lead actress Cindy Morgan just passed away a couple weeks ago.

Keith Brown

Try on Tron!

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

Turn on Tron!

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

Saw Tron a couple of times in the theaters back in 1982, had only a basic understanding of the digital world then. But enough to follow the story. At that time it was truly groundbreaking.

Stephen Malloy

I think you will really enjoy Tron Legacies,... I remember playing Tron on old school Intellivision by Mattel Electronics. I also used to play the Mattel Football and Football 2. Used to open it up and clip the sound wires so we could play it in school,.... One of my friends had a commodore 64 with the cassette player to load the program/games,... It used 64 kilobytes to run each program - could only play one program at a time. edit: Used to also go to the arcades,... was a centipede wizard,... could play between 40-50 minutes on one quarter for quite a few games,...

ENC SW DV Rush

Love the CGI from the era of 'Donkey Kong'..baby Jeff Bridges looking cute!🔥

Celeste McAllister

This just reminded me, I need to back up my files. 😁😁😁 Thanks, Cassie! Hope you’re well!

Greetings, programs!
