[YT Edit] Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)

Hey guys! Here is the YT edit for Kill Bill: Vol. 1, which will premiere a bit later on YT. Hope you enjoy!

Here is the full reaction to this movie.

[YT Edit] Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)

Comments

Definitely watch Volume 2. It's not near as violent, it has a few gruesome moments but it has a lot more characterization in it. And it will answer some questions you have. After toughing it out this one you'll do fine in the 2nd volume. Trust us.

DM DC

I actually chuckled when I heard Cassie say that people thought she would like Kill Bill. So much blood in Volume 1, no way. She will like Volume 2 though because of what happens.

Jeffery Parks

"Patreon's famous Mike Lemon" Awww, shucks (blush)...

Mike Lemon

Wow, Patreon's famous Mike Lemon took time out from his busy schedule to reply to one of my comments. I guess I should be flattered, but.........no, no, I'm not going to say anything else, I promised Ben, a few months ago I would try to control myself. 🤔🌹

james flack

Gonna chime in as well. I predict you'll like Kill Bill Vol. 2 better. The 2nd movie has way way way less blood. And it is just as good - if not better - story. Trust me Cassie, you won't regret watching!

Mike Smith

No. (source- me, who doesn't play "graphic" video games)

Mike Lemon

Has anyone ever noticed the connection between the ability to tolerate extreme violence in movies and the amount of time one spends on extremely graphic video games? Blood splatter seems to have become the new Prada. -Just sayin'......😎

james flack

Pretty much everything Tarantino films is a callback to some obscure movie reference. He is an outstanding reporter. Take his entire open to Inglorious which is almost shot for shot from Good the Bad and the Ugly.

pinkdino99

There is a version of this movie where both volumes are put back together, it’s called “Kill Bill The Whole Bloody Affair”. Some things are cut out, like the end sequence with Bill Telling Sophie her daughter is still alive(thus preserving the twist for the very end of part of the movie). The beginning of Volume 2 where the bride drives in black & white & addresses the audience directly is also cut out. This version has screened a few times here and there but hasn’t been released on blu ray or anything. It also has the entire House of Blue leaves sequence in full colour, with some extended bits here and there. While I think making more money was the producers goal, the two movies do split rather nicely and are VERY different. The 2nd film has more of a spaghetti western vibe. I love this movie. In fact, having read the script, I wish it was longer!

Stan the Man

Coming up on the big screen, Dune part 2 and Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Happy Hanukkah

The thing with the excessive in Tarantino's films, such this film with blood, is that it's a film style and this is my own interpretation but I feel it picks up on the style of Camp. In that style if your going to do something, exaggerate it and overdo it.

Eric Lopez

I knew as soon as kill bill was on that poll that we would be watching it and that Cassie would not enjoy it. But it is fun to watch one of my all time favorite movies with someone who reacts to it in this way. It’s a guilty pleasure.

Don

Oh come on Cassie! Yes it’s super violent. But It’s amazing! The fight scenes, the music, the odes to the classics. This is Tarantino having so much fun! And I love it. 😍

Joey

Cassie’s facial expressions throughout this entire reaction said it all…it was way too ultra violent. She struggled to say something positive about it.

Dan M

By coincidence, I had just been talking about the character of Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing, who serves as comic relief through malapropisms and other buffooneries. I am partial to Nathan Fillion's performance in the 2012 movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xx9SaEhhM0w

Happy Hanukkah

I was sad to see this do so well in the poll, because while it is brilliant, it's brilliance lies in it's fidelity as an homage ... to a lot of things Cassie hasn't seen. It's a movie you should watch at the end of your journey through martial arts flicks, not the beginning.

David Conroy

If you can handle vol. 1, definitely watch vol. 2. It's equally violent but more character-driven and the fights are one-on-one and dramatic, as opposed to just massive bloodshed. It's also the best acting of Uma Thurman's career: she's absolutely phenomenal.

David Conroy

Yeah, for sure, I was so satisfied when it ended!!! :-P

Happy Hanukkah

😂😂😂 Well done.

Just Plain Bob

Bob, I think you're being too parsimonious with Tarantino. After all, say what you want about his celerity, there's no denying the hybridity of his proems!

Happy Hanukkah

Yeah, she stopped before Maya Hawke joined the gang

Cole Jennett

Volume 2 is far less bloody and more character driven, you’ll be satisfied by the end.

Jackson Harper

Gotcha.

Just Plain Bob

Bob, that is what I like to call a backhanded compliment, sort of like telling a female "Of all the girls I know that are five lbs. overweight, you are the best looking". It's just a comment to elicit a response, nothing more. 😉🙏😌 P.S. I'm from 1948, believe me, it doesn't get any better.

james flack

I think she’s watched a couple of seasons. It seems like I remember her saying so during one of her lives. If memory serves, she said she still had to catch up with the last couple of seasons.

Just Plain Bob

I don't remember. I know Cassie hasn't watched Stranger Things on the channel, but did she watch it in her own time? If so, does she know that Uma Thurman is Maya Hawke's mom (she plays Robin, introduced in season 3)?

D.M. Lipkin

I think they also just thought they could make more money selling tickets for two movies as opposed to just one. Personally I think it would work better if they trimmed both parts down a bit and mashed them back together into one film. These movies always felt a little bit bloated, like the director's cuts with everything thrown in, rather than a tightened edit with the fat trimmed.

Stranger2Reality

I believe that's actually an old French proverb. But Tarantino being a Star Trek fan was no doubt being cheeky when he decided to quote Khan in Star Trek 2, who referred to it as an old Klingon proverb.

Stranger2Reality

Just sharing some trivia I thought people might find interesting. Except for the quibble. It really does bug me when people try to use words/terms that they clearly don't understand - something I've noticed has become more common in recent years. The obvious course of action if you don't want to read it: Don't. (That said, I fully recognize that I have a tendency to ramble. For a long time, I fought that inclination but in recent years I decided to surrender to the impulse. I'm getting old - turning 55 this year - and have no desire to censor myself.)

Just Plain Bob

Why do some people, blessed with super high I.Q.s, insist on sharing all they know, about everything, with everyone else, all the time? -Just wonderin'......🤔😎

james flack

You have to watch part 2. You shouldn’t treat it like a sequel. This was originally one movie. It was too long and so it was split up. The sequel isn’t nearly as bloody or violent

Stan the Man

Jackie Brown is a very, very underrated film and far and away the best adaptation of an Elmore Leonard novel.

Just Plain Bob

Well done for getting through that one. As you said at the beginning it’s all part of the expanding movie journey.

Ria Grix

Tarantino borrowed from a number of sub-genres for this film, most notably the 70s revenge film. He also included several bits that are direct references to specific films of the 70s. For instance, The Bride’s spitting is a reference to “Patrick”, a nice Australian exploitation (aka Ozploitation) picture in which the titular character, who’s in a coma, spits as a sort of reflex action. The character of Buck (“my name is Buck and I’m here to f***”) is named after a character in Tobe Hooper’s “Eaten Alive”, who uses that same exact phrase while visiting a brothel. In Hooper’s film, the character is played by Robert Englund, who would go on to play Freddy in “A Nightmare on Elm Street” several years later. The yellow jump suit The Bride wears is a duplicate of the jumpsuit that legendary kung fu master Bruce Lee wore in his last film, “Game of Death.” Lee died partway thru filming and had to be replaced by a body double for his remaining scenes. This would also turn out to be the tragic fate of his son, Brandon, who was killed partway thru filming “The Crow.” Like his father, his remaining scenes had to be filmed using a body double. The character of Hattori Hanzo was played by the legendary Sonny Chiba, who starred in several 1970s karate films as Takuma Tsaguri, starting with “The Street Fighter” and carrying on with its sequels. I’m a fan of the film series and I’ve heard Tarantino express his admiration for them as well, so his casting of Chiba was obviously quite deliberate. And, of course, David Carradine played Bill. Carradine was in dozens of low budget movies in the 70s, as well as starring in the tv show “Kung Fu.” Remember when Jules announced he’s leaving the criminal life behind at the end of “Pulp Fiction”? He says he’s gonna “walk the Earth.” Again, that’s a direct reference, this time to Carradine’s “Kung Fu.” I grew up in the 70s and early 80s and these things were cultural touchstones at the time for fans of low budget cinema. I’m a fan and Tarantino is the king of fans of that style of cinema. PS: A personal quibble. The Bride refers to her inability to use her legs as “entropy.” Entropy has something to do with heat/energy in physics. I’ve never really understood it. I’m reasonably sure that the word Tarantino was going for was “atrophy”, which is the shrinking and weakening of muscles due to disuse. Tarantino has a habit of sometimes using words which sound similar to the ones he intends but actually mean something quite different. I’m not sure if it’s an odd affectation on his part or he’s simply stretching his known vocabulary past the breaking point.

Just Plain Bob

Mr. and Mrs. Smith is on the "already watched" list. https://letterboxd.com/pib1/films/

Mike Lemon

Definitely watch Vol.2 👍😊

Paul Spacone

"Oh my." -In a George Takei voice

Jaccob Cortes

Congrats for watching this. I knew it wouldn't be your cup of tea but I do love the movie. To understand these movies, you would have had to have grown up in the 70's watching a lot of TV. The music, the kung fu and even Bill himself come from that period.

KauaiKeith

Kill Bill: Volume 2 and Jackie Brown are my favorite Tarantino movies. Hmmm… you might have to watch Jackie Brown too. It’s actually Quentin’s most “normal” movies, but still incredibly entertaining. It may actually end up being your favorite.

Norrin Radd

Volume 2 is even better than this one, and you’re guaranteed to enjoy it!

Norrin Radd

If I could pick a 'Guys' movie (With Action) that would be perfect for you and your Sister to watch. I'd say Mr. & Mrs. Smith is for you. There's a complicated, touching love story and you girls like Brad Pitt right? I think War of the Roses is another movie you need to watch.

Powers209

Number 2 doesn’t have any huge fight scenes like 1 had at the end. You will enjoy it. You have to watch 2 !!

Ruben Cifuentez

Which I'm guessing was directly inspired by Soviet tendencies. ("Russia is the homeland of elephants.") But said habit and accusations thereof presumably go back to antiquity.

Happy Hanukkah

I'll just say I love the thumbnail.

Happy Hanukkah

I didn't like this film at first due to it's filming style, over the top cartoonish violence and time jumping plot points but I warmed up to it after a while. Looking forward your reaction to Volume 2. This film felt like a samurai Kung-Fu film while I felt the next part was more like a western. I liked the questions you asked in this film Cassie, Vol. 2 has the answers!!!

ROBERT CLARK

Klingon proverb? “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” This is a human proverb that appears to have originated in the 19th century. There is kind of a running joke in Star Trek involving Klingon appropriation of human culture

Doc Larry

uma thurman was marcelus wallace wife in pulp fiction so you have seen a movie with her before. interestingly the tv pilot she was a part of was about a group of elite assassins.

rubberkidney

Elmore Leonard, who wrote JACKIE BROWN (and a TON of other books that movies are based on) said that film, OUT OF SIGHT and GET SHORTY (in that order) are as close as movies could get to what he intended (although he also said the TV series, JUSTIFIED was a virtual bullseye).

Above Average Dave

Yes to all this. JB is my favorite QT flick; so much fun and romantic.

Paul McCormack

Thanks, Cassie! I was actually thinking, while watching you and Carly watching First Blood, how much more sophisticated (and brave) you've become. All those parts Carly was looking away or covering her eyes - that was you a few years ago. Now you're the one watching through the grit and telling her when it's safe. And you talk about "tropes," "arcs" and "themes" with confidence and deep knowledge. If you were Frodo at the beginning of this journey, you're basically Aragorn now (or Arwyn, if you prefer)! So amazing!

Above Average Dave

I'm assuming you'll watch Vol. 2, and you can rest a little easy that it's not nearly as violent as Vol. 1 was. Still violent, as it's Tarantino, but Vol. 1 definitely has more of the blood and guts. The Tarantino movie you might like the most is Jackie Brown. That's definitely his least violent (especially gratuitous violence), and is a great movie.

Stranger2Reality

Kill Bill Vol2 is a must

Russell Teo

My, how you've grown. 😊
