Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003)-Full Reaction

Well that was a LOT! Omg, i thought I might have needed to bail after the first scenes but i made it through and actually want to watch volume 2 even. I NEED TO KNOW. Uma Thurman was very good in this, I could feel her pain at some points.

ST4 coming tomorrow!

Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003)-Full Reaction

Comments

The skinny guy in the animation has never been confirmed as Bill. Would be cool if he was but thats not a credible claim at all.

SavageDiplomat

Finally got around to watching this one. I'm way behind so watched all the ones I liked first and now I'm getting around the ones I don't really like but am just curious to see what Cassie made of them, like this one. I must say I found this movie way more funny this second time round all these years later. I particularly enjoyed seeing Cassie's reaction to the over-the-top gore that made me laugh out load, and I laughed even harder at her reaction when she realised she was going to have to watch Vol 2 to find out what happens. Absolutely priceless! 😂

Luke Godfrey

Just so you know.. if not already. The skinny guy in the animation that helped kill Oren's parents is Bill. And the bald guys at the end were 2 different people. The 1st bald guy was knocked unconscious by the bamboo pole early in the fight. The 2nd one you saw stabbed in the stomach was out for sure. The 1st bald guy regains consciousness after the 2nd bald guy was dead.

Doc Savage

Both movies are technically all one big movie so yes you need to watch volume 2 as im sure everyone else has probably said already, it answers all the questions you have and has a very satisfying conclusion.

Jasbro

Cassie....you can't actually be debating whether or not you should watch Vol 2?! You MUST tough it out...I'm betting you'll be glad you did.

Pianodean

You definitely should watch 2. Good news is it isn't anywhere near as violent. Much more story and much less gore.

Yaisu

I'll echo what everyone is saying in that Vol. 2 is far less violent and bloody, and much more story driven. It answers a lot of questions you probably have about why all this is happening. I highly recommend watching it if you enjoyed this one.

Justin Schuller

for me, Taratino is both a great filmmaker and yet still very overrated. I think he makes solid, good films (usually), ,but I am not onboard that he's made anything that should be considered a masterpiece. For me this lands right in the middle of his filmography - over the top (by choice, to be sure) - and very much style over substance. I remember thinking vol 2 was a better movie - so I look forward to revisiting it..

Walter

I'm a anime fan, by the way.

Richard Maurer

Part 2 is an itch you just have to scratch but we had to wait a year so you don’t have to rush it either.

Jason Dolan

Part 2 is a lot less bloody and less rapey. It is a good conclusion. Worth watching.

Seymor Butz

Thats certainly an opinion. Has anyone told you that this isn't real murder, and its fictional?

Armchair Rizzard

Definitely have to watch Vol 2. Cassie, and it's MUCH easier to watch than Vol. 1 for someone like yourself. Guarantee you'll be glad you watched it by the end!

Eric Denney

Cassie's new nickname should be "The Yellow Haired Warrior" after watching this lol Thank you for watching this Cassie and 100% watch Volume 2. It ties everything together and all the mysteries and questions from the first movie are answered and neatly tied together. It would be a great disservice to yourself to not see Volume 2.

David Fedor

part 2 is way better

William Bryan

It is, but it’s an homage to Hong Kong cinema back when it was under British control and they had thriving movie industry similar to Bollywood. They used these gory effects to enhance the experience. Not everyone’s cup of tea.

Anthony V Petty

I know, right?!?! Caveman balls…. not expecting that, lol. That’s why she is one of the best reactions in town 😂

Anthony V Petty

He is allegedly doing a third but with Tarantino who knows?

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

This movie is an homage to a lot of the lower budget revenge ninja/samurai movies from decades ago (70s/80s) such as with all the over-the-top blood spraying, wire-acrobatics, etc. It's definitely his most stylized film including the great anime sequence. Vol 2. is a much different movie but the story of The Bride flows really well and I find it to me a more character-driven and interesting piece of the story. Definitely recommend it. Although I still feel Jackie Brown is my favorite Tarantino film. Another great strong female lead and that one is centered around a crime/heist so nowhere near as violent.

Ricardo Alanis

Kill Bill is Terrentino's version of John Wick, a mindless piece of junk glorifying killing and murder.

Steve Smith

It's the best Tarantino entry along with Vol.2 imo, although I guessed it wouldn't be to Cassie's taste with all the violence. I think she'll love how it all ends though.

Odd Thomas

Awesome movie and nice reaction. You gotta photoshop your face onto that yellow jumpsuit for the YouTube thumbnail.

Pickupthepieces76

Not my favorite movie, or even my favorite Tarantino movie. I definitely think you should watch part 2, though. It completes the story and is much more character-driven. Also, you have already survived what have to be the worst scenes for you - the mother/daughter part and the coma.

Steve Miller

When Uma went to Okinawa I was struck by how similar Cassie and Uma look. Halloween costume perhaps?

Jay

This is my second favorite Tarantino film after Pulp Fiction, I absolutely LOVE the style that is all over this film. I know it's going to be a tough movie for Cassie to watch, but I have a pretty good feeling when she finishes the entire story she'll be able to appreciate it all for what it is. Can't wait to watch this full reaction with you.

KTVindicare

$50 is not that easy. They should just release it for streaming and get it over with.

Richard Maurer

Factually accurate is one thing, completely fictionalized into a unflattering caricature just to make one of the main characters look good in another thing entirely.

Richard Maurer

I also remember seeing it with my dad in theaters (I was 16). Pretty sure it was the first QT movie I had seen at the time. Was one of those theater experiences that sticks in my memory.

SeanATX

Love the whole soundtrack, but "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" is one my all time favorites. I can't help but listen to the whole thing if it comes on. What a jam.

SeanATX

This movie was so good in the theater. Thanks for watching it, I know it wasn’t easy, but now you see why so many love it. Vol. 2 doesn’t have as much blood splatter, but continues with great characters and action. Most believe it to be the stronger of the two movies.

Anthony V Petty

I never saw it as a cheap shot. I thought it was a comical spoof. Was there any Real Life Character, portrayed factually accurate in the film?

Larry Darrell

Yeah it’s not too violent. That’s Quentin Tarantino’s style. He’s got a pretty massive fan base that loves it.

Michael Lynch

Glad you made it through. This is such an amazing art piece. I say art because the music is masterfully put in scenes and visually. It’s just a really cool movie. You had a rough time but at least you didn’t do what your sister does constantly. “I can’t, I can’t, I can’t”. Your caveman balls comment had me laughing. I can’t believe the cartoon part got you that squeamish. I figured you’d be a little desensitized by now.

Michael Lynch

I understand that, I just think that Kill Bill is completely overblown and long. It did not need to be made into two movies.

Mark Vaderr

Great analogy.

Mark Vaderr

Yes Cassie watch vol 2! You will get all your answers. And it’s not nearly as violent and bloody as this one is. You’ve come so far in what you are willing to watch. Can’t love them all but we are proud of you for pushing through.

brooke atkins

So I won't go through all things from this movie that were in Pulp Fiction but there were several at one point my friends knew all the eggs that Tarantino put in there. Now I love Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, so I know that movie in and out.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

"Bill is like Charlie from Charlie's angels but evil" ROFL.

pat on

That's what I was thinking of. Ball and chain. Not a mace.

Rick Williams

@Richard- $50 if you're quick - https://www.ebay.com/itm/173123541982

Mike Lemon

100% Yes. Barbara Stanwyck in Stella Dallas (1937) Greer Garson in Mrs. Miniver (1942) Joan Crawford in Mildred Pierce (1945) Jean Arthur in Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) Julie Christie in Doctor Zhivago (1965) Audrey Hepburn in Two For the Road (1967) And so on, and so on.

Larry Darrell

I keep thinking about Kill Bill vol 2, hope it happens sooner than later. I already know ST IV is going to happen soon.

Richard Maurer

EVERYBODY REMEMBER WHERE WE PARKED

MotoDork

You think its about time for a colorful metaphor?

Jens Kristensen

Wish that version were easily available here.

Richard Maurer

Sit down, carol.

Kevin Charley

You know what I keep thinking about? Star Trek IV

MotoDork

Honestly, that’s not really my thing. I tapped my toes a few times, but when he started singing, it lost me. Sorry, nice try. For that area of music, I do like Kavinsky or Daft Punk, though.

Larry Darrell

Yes, despite all the “Girl Boss” films that’ve been produced in the last few years, very few seem to remember to treat these characters as three-dimensional individuals with faults, foibles and fears. These screenwriters working today do well to go back watch any movie with Bette Davis in the lead, or even some of the classics with Rosalind Russell, Vivian Leigh and Joan Crawford. Heck, go watch GIANT, GONE WITH THE WIND or ALL ABOUT EVE. Master classes.

Above Average Dave

"This was a common trope..." - TV shows too. MASH is a great example. Even one of the main cast played two characters (Harry Morgan played General Steele and Col. Potter).

Mike Lemon

Good starter list. If we’re going back to the 30s, “many” is an underestimation. Sadly… hardly any are from the past 10 years or so.

Larry Darrell

I guess you are right 😁

BjĂśrn Karlsson

James Gunn says hi 😁

Above Average Dave

Other well-written female leads (and there are many) in films Cassie’s yet to see: Charlie Baltimore (Gina Davis) in THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, Karen Sisco (Jennifer Lopez) in OUT OF SIGHT, Scarlett O’Hara (Vivian Leigh) in GONE WITH THE WIND, Jane Craig (Holly Hunter) in BROADCAST NEWS, TessMcGill (Melanie Griffith) in WORKING GIRL, Mallory Kane (Gina Carano) in HAYWIRE and Carmen (Dianne Lane) in KILLSHOT.

Above Average Dave

Barbie was very good

TinCan Cosmanaut

Indeed. Really a cult classic, but this I am certain of that Cassie will hate... hehe.

Jens Kristensen

I really enjoy the two Kill Bill movies. Its a long revenge flick mixed up with Asian cinema and old westerns. Pretty violent and crude, but so fecking entertaining. I remember when vol. 1 was released on dvd. The scenes where The Bride takes on the 88 and the carnage begins, the movie changes from color to black and white... I think it was because of the censor rating... well in Japan the dvd version that particular bloodspraying segment was in glorious color...

Jens Kristensen

Such a great reaction video. Totally reminded me of classic Cass, when she first started and everything was too much for her. Cassie is so fun to watch. (IDK, reminds me of when I was younger and I watched these movies for the first time.)

Uncle Phoenix

Meteor hammer. The European weapon you, and Cassie, are thinking of is a flail (ball and chain flail), a mace is a weight on a shaft (no articulation).

Mike Lemon

I agree with Mark Vaderr. In fact, I’ll go one further - while an innovator and stylist, Tarantino is one of the most self-indulgent and over-rated directors of our era. He reminds me of a kid who takes you up to his room and won’t let you leave until he shows you every toy he has…and he has a LOT of toys.

Above Average Dave

Khan calls it an old Klingon proverb.

Kevin Charley

Oh crap 😒🤥 well it was the trailer to Thriller: A cruel picture. Anyhow, it's easy to find it on Youtube 🙂

BjĂśrn Karlsson

Your link does not work, YT or google.

Richard Maurer

Ahh, the Old Ball and Chain, eh.

Larry Darrell

Or not. All art is subjective and so on.

Richard Maurer

Hehe check this 😅 https://youtu.be/P-Qv3tyZJRM?si=rWpwdAGUN_CfUmP9

BjĂśrn Karlsson

The Bruce Lee part hurt the film in my eyes. There was no need to take a cheap shot at a legend, especially with zero credible evidence that he was anything like what he was portrayed to be in the film. Damaged what would otherwise be an excellent film for no good reason.

Richard Maurer

Didn't use to be this way, the most you would have is ice swirling. It's really weird.

AdrianF

I love this movie, and the movies that inspired it. And add another "too much for Cassie" film to list of films that weren't too much for Cassie. The fact that she wants to watch the second film says it all.

Richard Maurer

Really that scene shows just how determined she is to get her revenge. These two low-lifes are just minor obstacles in her path, as horrible as they are she destroys them and never gives them a second thought.

Richard Maurer

Any movements you make in bed or wth your blanket are amplified for some reason.

Rick Williams

I mentioned this since I'm a little raver, but Ran-D (I mean what were we thinking) covered another theme here with hurricane. It'll make your toe twitch Larry, mebbe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65ARYmqvTBI

AdrianF

P. S. Caveman balls? Where did that come from? Made me laugh. You are so great with the things that just seem to pop into from head. Great Reaction. The weapon Go Go used looked like a Medieval mace with the handle removed and a longer chain added.

Rick Williams

Like LotR, I have no preference since it takes all the parts (or both in this case) to make the whole.

Richard Maurer

Some people are too attached to realism. The exploitation "genre" is all about not worrying about realism as long as it looks cool. And blood geysers are cool.

Richard Maurer

Blimey Philip, I didn't want to suggest that that's what it was but yup.

AdrianF

You are in to deep now Cassie. Can't stop now. You have to complete the story. Volume 2 will complete the story and answer your questions. I didn't vote for this movie knowing it would be rough on you. But, you can't stop now. Finish it.

Rick Williams

Yeah like massive compression or something to get rid of external noises... AIs it on my end?

AdrianF

A good chunk of anime is as bad or worse.

Richard Maurer

If he sticks to that being his final film. He might be rethinking that in five years or so.

Richard Maurer

When I heard that I said out loud "Whaaat???" then lol'd for about a minute.

Richard Maurer

KIll Bill was inspired by a lot more than Lady Snowblood. Shogun Assassin, Five Deadly Venoms, various spaghetti westerns etc.

Richard Maurer

I’m guessing you weren’t a fan of Barbie either.

Cole Jennett

The movies that this movie is a homage to are notorious for not pulling any punches. If Tarantino had held back it would have been an insult to those films.

Richard Maurer

Put it on a T-Shirt

Cole Jennett

If she wants to know how it ends enough to watch vol.2, then yes. on some level, she enjoyed it.

Richard Maurer

........and the swedish movie "Thriller: A cruel picture" :)

BjĂśrn Karlsson

One of my all-time favorites. To each his/her own indeed.

Richard Maurer

The Bride’s daughter was not played by Uma Thurman’s daughter. Although her parents were filmmakers, I believe, she was no relation to Uma Thurman. I suspect you’re thinking of Maya Hawke, who is the right age to have played the part, but her acting career didn’t actually start until about a decade after the Kill Bill movies.

Just Plain Bob

This movie is too violent even for a QT film

Rosario Cicero

Kiiiinda. We for sure can hear your stomach growl! :) haha

Philip Alan

Gattaca is quality. Written and directed by Andrew Niccol who also wrote The Truman Show.

Grad

I figured you’d struggle with this one, Dearest Cassie and I knew this movie is a call, essentially, to watch the second. Now, as a Mom, I’m sure you can appreciate the work Uma put in. She had just delivered her first, I believe, baby just before this movie was shot. What made that great, though, was that, in the second movie (I don’t really consider this a spoiler: the movie ends with everyone finding out her daughter is still alive, they’re not going to do that and not bring out an actual child actress of appropriate age.), the girl revealed to be ‘the Bride’s’ daughter is Uma’s actual daughter.

Lamar Smith

This was my first R movie theater experience, I was 11. I loved every second of it.

Samuel Newman

haha no way, i love that

Cassie

i thought about that too!!

Cassie

Ok. Time for some fun fan fiction/theories. Pulp fiction and kill bill are set in the same movie universe. Uma Thurman who played “the Bride” in kill bill was also Mia Wallace in pulp fiction (as has been pointed out). In pulp fiction thurman’s character played the role of a secret agent/assassin in a tv pilot “fox force five.” Kill bill features the “real life” version of that failed tv pilot. The descriptions of the tv cast in pulp fiction are very similar to what we see in kill bill. While Thurman’s characters in both movies are separate from one another they are purposefully portrayed by the same actress. (This was a common trope in the low budget Kung-fu movies genre as well as the blacksploitation movies that kill bill draws references from. You also see it in the spaghetti westerns too). The sword Bruce Willis used in pulp fiction is rumored to be “The bride’s” first sword, long since lost and ultimately ending up in a pawn shop. Tarantino has never confirmed this. He has never denied it either (that I know) despite being asked. I’m glad you enjoyed it. And yes, now that you have you really do need to watch part 2. I would still recommend watching some of the influencing source material, even if you don’t do it as reactions. The one exception would be Bruce Lee’s Game of Death. That would be a fun reaction (it’s even Carly friendly-different era and morals) and an excellent introduction into the would of Bruce Lee and Kung-Fu Theater.

Evil Darth Carl

oh ya duh!!

Cassie

just small noises being big?

Cassie

I saw Kill Bill in theatres with my dad in 2003. I was 15. This was big deal at the time considering Quentin hadn't directed a movie since Jackie Brown in 1997. Kill Bill Vol. 2 will answer and resolve everything or just about everything that was left unanswered and unresolved. Also, the last name of "The Bride" was said in the movie. 😄

Zane From Canada

Echoing what others have said, Vol. 1 was just Revenge. Kill Bill Vol. 2 is a different kind of film, with a lot more of a story being told, and it leans more into the Spaghetti Western genre, which you've had a taste of before. Alright Cassie. There has to be a Musical Bone in your body somewhere, and one of these days, we're gonna find it. How can anyone still feel nervous and tense, while hearing this song... https://youtu.be/5aFj4IYHnZ8?si=Unyhr5TGufyBsCxB I myself cannot sit still. Hearing this song precede a fight scene, should get anyone fully prepped and ready to go. By the way, the full 16 Minute version of this song, "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" by Santa Esmeralda is on my Running Playlist. When it comes on... I know I will be running for 16 Minutes straight... Non-Stop. No one does Soundtracks like Quentin Tarantino.

Larry Darrell

Also, you go through a few years thinking a piece of music you loved is from the thing you're into, then you realise it was in a 20 year old movie. (Hurricane, Ran-D)

AdrianF

Part 2 is far less gruesome plus Michael Madsen gives a great performance.

Bennett Holleman

I know you mentioned sound issues recently, but there's weirdness with this one as well. .

AdrianF

And incidentally that is the story where the line "Revenge is a dish best served cold" is originally from. The film Dangerous Liaisons is an adaption of the play Les Liaisons Dangereuses written in 1782. Unknown if the Klingons attended the premiere. 😊

Steve Holton

I know you love romances, and I know you love period dramas, so you should put Dangerous Liasons on your list. John Malkovich, Glenn Close with a very young Keanu and Uma Thurman.

pinkdino99

First The Thing... now this. You are pushing your boundaries girl ! I prefer this to the second one just 'cos of Lucy Liu and how gloriously deranged her character is. The second has it's moments though.

pinkdino99

Yes Cassie you HAVE to watch vol. II. It explains in more detail what happens in volume. 1 and it also wraps up the story. It's not as gorey as this one, and you just have to know how it ends.

HoneyJo

Tarantino has announced his Final Film... it is called The Movie Critic, and is set during the 70s.

Larry Darrell

My #1 Favorite Film of the New Millenia.

Larry Darrell

"I didn't know cartoons could be so yucky" Oh Cassie you have no idea. ex. Akira, Heavy Metal and many more

Ryan Geiger

Ever tried Once Upon a Time in Hollywood?

Larry Darrell

I really think you'll enjoy Part 2 a lot. It's a bit less focused on the sensationalism and gore, and it has more of what you were seeking in terms of backstory and more character-driven and emotional moments. There are still plenty of unpleasant moments to face but I believe you'll be satisfied by the time this epic journey reaches its conclusion.

Henry Graham

I had the same experience. Preferred the first part in my youth. Prefer the second part now.

Stick Figure Studios

Wasn't it Jennifer Lawrence saying that about herself as Katniss?

Brent Petty

This is why I can't stand Brie Larson. She had the gall to say stupid things like she's the first true woman Action Star during her promotion of Captain Marvel. Like its just so dumb to say something like that when Uma Thurman and Sigourney Weaver exist. And people just lapped it up.

Astraeos

I can't say I enjoyed watching this as it is not my cup of tea moviewise, but I do always enjoy the soundtrack. Reading all the notes of where all the songs come from is crazy, Tarantino took from many music genres for this one. Good thing that Cassie saved Trek IV as a palette cleanser for after Kill Bill Vol 1.

Mike LL

You will LOVE Part 2.

DWeber

And it looked stupid in Sanjuro and it's looked stupid ever since.

Carol_White

"It served no purpose to the story" - But it does get to Tarantino's obligatory foot fetish scene.

Mike Lemon

Great reaction, Volume 2 is even better

William

Easter egg for VLC users- I just noticed this after all these years, if you watch the movie with VLC, check out the traffic cone when the movie is over. I wonder if there are any others like that?

Mike Lemon

When these have been released, 20-year-old me preferred Volume 1. But as time is passing, I think I slightly prefer Volume 2 now. Still love parts of Vol 1 though, but I find myself liking it for different reasons than I used to. Initially, I enjoyed the action scenes, but now what is really standing out to me is the Okinawa part and the introduction and conclusion of the House of Blue Leaves sequence. I find cinematography and the composition so good in the latter parts, how the camera moves around during that long shot before the fight scene. And then the contrast between the big fight scene and the calm and serenity of the garden duel.

Gåbor Árki

Two (2) Star Trek references caught! That’s about 20pts! This was a good intro. Uma Thurman’s acting sells it (these 2 films are her best work). I do wish Quentin left out the hospital scene with “Buck.” It served no purpose to the story - we never see those two scum again - and that whole scene was useless to the plot and her character other than keys to the truck. Cringe for cringe sake. BTW: The late, great KOBE BRYANT gave himself the nickname “Black Mamba” after watching this movie : ) Vol. 2 is my favorite of the two. I think you will have an easier time with it and it’s a worthy conclusion.

Ike

Well that's some cool trivia I never knew. Thanks.

YodatheHobbit

What a walking clichĂŠ.

YodatheHobbit

Blasphemy

YodatheHobbit

Quentin Tarantino was inspired a lot of this old B-movie from Sweden 😄 https://popcornrequests.com/title/tt0072285

BjĂśrn Karlsson

+1 for a Gattaca reaction. It is a thought-provoking, surprisingly profound film. Also, this isn't Cassie's first encounter with Uma on screen. She played Marcellus Wallace's wife in Pulp Fiction.

ArsTropica

Hell yeah! Time for Killiam WIlliam!

Gunnar Rea

Poor Cassie. I thought you were going to be sick. Volume two is much more a western/kung fu movie versus Volume One’s horror/Yakuza. I think you’ll definitely be satisfied by the conclusion. Uma Thurman IS great. Gattaca is her must see science fiction movie from the 90s that would definitely fit well on the channel and Prime is a romcom where she falls in love with a younger man that you’d definitely enjoy as a palate cleanser. Actually she’s done stacks of romcoms, The Truth about Cats and Dogs is the classic.

Jacob King

You saw Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction.

Brent Petty

Big shoutout to Cassie for getting through the worst of it! I hate that scene in the beginning in the hospital with the pervs, and I was feeling triple cringe by watching Cassie cringe. I don’t know why he had to go so hard in the paint the visuals; it’s something that could have been shorter. Silver lining though, Cassie had me laughing so hard when Gogo came into the scene. She was like, “She has one of those…what are they called? Caveman balls!” Dude, I looked at Gogo’s schoolgirl skirt, and I got this visual of these massive caveman balls, and I laughed so hard that I cried laughing. That was epic! I will be cracking people up with that story for weeks. Hell yeah, Cassie! Go for Volume 2 because the ending is brilliant writing. I am a strong writer, but I can tell you that the end of Volume 2 is the best thing he’s ever done. And you will be satisfied by it in a surprising way.

Author Travis Adams Irish

I think HOLLYWOOD is his best movie

Stick Figure Studios

Personally, I consider this Middle-Tier Tarantino.

Stick Figure Studios

Well, it's a completely different kind of movie

Stick Figure Studios

It is very cold in space.

Stick Figure Studios

I knew this would be a tough watch for you given the strong violence (although I agree that the more extreme it becomes, with Kurosawa-like geysers of blood gushing from wounds, the more cartoony and consequently less disturbingniy becomes), but I also suspected you would get enough invested in the Bride's story and motivation for revenge that by the time it got to that final line of dialogue, you would absolutely want to know what happens next. You are correct about it really only being "half a movie" because Tarantino initially wanted it to be one long film but was more or less forced by the studio to divide it up into two and, personally, I prefer the second part to the first one. It's lighter on the action (and mercifully on the violence), but it is far more interesting in terms of story and character. I think you will prefer it also. Tarantino is a filmmaker whose movies I enjoy (and have enjoyed ever since I first discovered him in my "filmbro" phase in college) but whose work I simultaneously find very frustrating for reasons I won't go into here. The KILL BILLS I'd rank about in the middle of his filmography: below ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, INGLORIOUS BASTERDS, RESERVOIR DOGS and PULP FICTION, but above JACKIE BROWN (which I actually think you'd enjoy), DJANGO UNCHAINED, HATEFUL 8 and his worst movie DEATH PROOF.

Stick Figure Studios

Don’t worry about Vol 2. It’s far FAR less violent than the first one and relies more on the personal drama between the remaining few characters.

djKENTO

Not a Tarantino fan but Kill Bill Vol 1 is the only film of his I enjoyed. To an extent. It is so over the top with its violence and spraying blood everywhere and there a few scenes I still find too disturbing. I love the soundtrack more than anything else and Uma Thurman is great. Vol 2 never worked for me but I had to see the rest of the story and it does have its moments. I gave up on Tarantino after Inglourious Basterds.

thansen

Tarantino LOVES Star Trek. He almost directed a Trek film just a few years ago but Covid put the final nail in that. As for the revenge quote, you’ll hear it in a few movies hahah

djKENTO

Cassie, I think you'll enjoy volume 2 a lot more. It's still violent but not as over the top and it has a lot more dialogue and gives all the back story you're looking for.

Matthew Folz

Cassie much watch Volume II

Daniel N

"Revenge is a dish best served cold" is a line Khan is saying when encountering Kirk and the Enterprise in ST2. I knew it wasn't going to be an easy ride, but I was hoping that by the end of this movie you would want to watch Volume 2, which is the second half of the story. It is a very different style, and I'm sure it will be easier on you.

Gåbor Árki

Wow Cassie, you did it. All the more reason to take a violent break and looking into happier movies. You can always revisit Vol2. Congratulations on being brave enough to handle something the Cassie from a few years ago, would have never tried. But now you see why so many of us said this is not ever a Carly movie.

John Liebling

He has said that his last movie would not be about Green's daughter seeking revenge. He flirted with the idea initially but decided against it. He has not ruled out carrying on that story in another format, however.

Just Plain Bob

The tradition of blood spray in movies has a lot to do with a technical error in Sanjuro, a Kurosawa movie. A death scene was supposed to include a moderate amount of blood, but a valve failed, causing a powerful spray that nearly knocked the actor off his feet. They kept it in the movie. Filmmakers saw the open door, and ran through it.

Ben Livingstone

Vol 2 is a MUST! I hope you watch!

Philip Alan

I didn't really care for Vol. 1, but absolutely loved Vol. 2. Go figure.

Shawn Kildal

I think Kill Bill is Tarantino's best work. Part 1 has more violence overall, and you're right that it is purposely over the top to a cartoonish level. Tarantino even made sure the fake blood had different formulas for different scenes in reference to other films of the past. The important thing is that the storytelling is top notch. Part 2 will rip your heart out and put it back together. The emotional catharsis by the end of the story is worth all the conflict throughout part 1 and 2.

Chris W

Seijun Suzuki director of Tokyo Drifter, way better than Kill Bill. I don’t even remember vol. 2. In the sixties Suzuki made some of the best genre films of all time with Tokyo drifter, velvet hustler, shoot the police van and branded to kill, among others

Thomas Thompson

I really love you get all the Star Trek references now! Plus, now you and Carly will get all the Rambo references in the future. 😊 Like you said, the violence is so over the top that it makes the movie more palatable. If it was super realistic, it be even more difficult to watch. Luckily, Quentin is a huge movie buff. And draws inspiration from some of his favorite genres. Like classic samurai movies, Kung Fu films, Westerns, etc…which is why he incorporates cheesy blood spray, sound effects, etc…you’d see in films from the past I definitely think you should watch Volume 2. It was written as a single story. And you’ll get a conclusion to the tale. Looking forward to Star Trek IV

I'm not a fan of Tarantino, but I think Vol.2 is going to be a great watch for you. Recommend highly, as you've made it through Vol. 1.

Dave

I am glad you got the Star Trek reference. When (Bleep) told Vernita Green's daughter that she understood if she feels raw about her killing her mom and if she wanted to have her revenge (Bleep) would be waiting for her, there has been speculation that would be Quentin's last movie. I am holding out hope for all these years that it could happen.

DarthChef

Can't wait to watch this one with you! Without spoiling, I'll let you know that Part 2 isn't nearly as violent overall as this first one. It's slower paced with more dialogue, and you'll learn a lot more about Uma's character. All your questions will be answered! :-)

“Caveman Balls” 😂🤣😂

Patrick Gibbs

Vol. 2 will be much more manageable for you and your questions will be answered! Looking forward to it.

theOutcast

awesome reaction, i think if you can handle this now you should watch warrior from 2011. its a fighting movie but more so about the bond of family and getting through family trauma

Jor Dooger

You know we get badly written superhero women like at this point in time Captain Marvel/echo/SheHulk, etc… This is an example of how to write an excellent one.

TinCan Cosmanaut

absolutely love kill bill, one of my all time favorite. the best trivia i love from the first film is when o Ren tells the bride "i hoped you saved energy, you might not last five min" and the whole fight last 4min 59 sec

Jor Dooger

Great reaction. Vol. 2 is not nearly as violent, if that helps.

Brent Petty

The good thing about Volume 2 is that it is not as violent as volume 1. From memory, there is only one part you will find squeemish.

Brian McGovern

Cassie, you are our Yellow Haired Warrior making it through this. Halloween costume for next year? Yellow jumpsuit and samurai sword haha

Choof

Tarantino at his best

Russell Teo

I cannot wait to watch this reaction

Daniel N

Genuinely impressed you made it though this one. Imagine trying that a few years ago.

aarswft

Also also, I was super jazzed to hear that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was maybe in your Top 10 for last year out of everything that you watched. For me, that movie is what makes it hard to pick a true Tarantino favorite. That movie is something else, and it's also for my money one of the more not-Tarantino esque movies he's done. It just has such a great aesthetic, and such great main two characters with Pitt and DiCaprio

Astraeos

The Kill Bill films are heavily inspired by a pair of Japanese films called Lady Snowblood (which are better imo).

Tim Raths

Uma Thurman was Mia Wallace who danced with Vincent Vega, and later overdosed and got the adrenaline shot in the heart. "Silly caucasian girl likes to play with samurai swords." You could skip Vol. 2 and read what happens.

Clay F

I can't watch tarantino movies, there's something about his style that just rubs me wrong. I haven't got more than half way through one before I get disgusted and turn it off. Sorry, Cassie, but I won't be watching this one, maybe the YT edit.

Craig Russell

I'm not a big Pulp Fiction fan either, Django Unchained is probably my favorite Tarantino film.

Joe Mallard

Yeah! My favorite Tarantino and probably within my top favorite films period! :D

Brent

About to watch but first had to say: Yay! I'm so happy you stuck through and are wanting to see Vol. 2. I realize this isn't your type of movie on the surface but I'm glad you've giving this story a chance! :)

Brent

Cassie, Kill Bill parts 1 and 2 were two parts of a whole. Tarantino originally intended to make only one film but elected to split it into two movies when he realized he had too much material for just one. The films refer/pay homage to 70s revenge thrillers, kung fu films (Uma’s yellow jumpsuit is identical to the one worn by Bruce Lee in his last film), Japanese historical epics (particularly Lady Snowblood), anime and Spaghetti westerns (in part two, complete with music by Ennio Morriconi), among other genres. In short, Kill Bill is Tarantino’s love letter to the movies he grew up watching. Love him or hate him, he’s said that his next film will be his last. As someone who’s a big fan, I’ll miss his work. PS: You’re intro to the reaction, in which you remark on how you’ve come to appreciate all different kinds of films, was one of the most eloquent and heart felt statements about what makes movies a great art form that I’ve ever heard. Very well said, ma’am.

Just Plain Bob

So glad you didn't bail after the beginning! This, for me, is one of my favorite Tarantino movies. Hard to pick, but I just love the Kill Bill Saga. Can't wait to see the rest! And these movies have just the absolute best soundtracks, especially Volume 1

Astraeos

I've never seen this movie. It just doesn't appeal to me but I'm happy to see Star Trek 4 coming tomorrow. I'll definitely be checking closely for that to drop.

Katie Jackson

This was a surprising movie when it came out. And while I enjoyed this movie a lot. The 2nd movie is my favorite!

Rainbow Dash

Not a great film. Sorry you had to sit through it.

Jerrod Acree

Don't lose too much sleep over it. It's just movies.

nick bell

Yes this movie is alot!! I remember seeing this in theaters and NOT liking it at all but back then I worked at Blockbuster and my co-workers got me to rewatch it and really appreciated it a lot my second time around. Then I loved Kill Bill Vol 2! I’m just not big into Tarantino movies but I totally get their appeal. Bold take….I don’t think Pulp Fiction is that great. 😬 But that’s just me, I know plenty of people who love Tarantino movies!

Spencer Thurmond

Did she? She got through it, yes, and she wants to know what happens, but is this going to be something she watches multiple times?

Mark Vaderr

I think you’ll like part two more. It’s not as violent and it’s more story driven.

Tim Raths

This movie is A LOT. Yeah, that is the best way to describe this movie. Tarantino loves to shove everything down our throats. Looking forward to Star Trek IV!

Mark Vaderr

I love that you enjoyed it!

nick bell

ST4 is a lot of fun

Hankster

Nice. Hope you do volume 2 soon!

Wes

Glad you liked it, was not one of my favorites. To each his/her own

Bill Maurer

ST4. Yesssssssssssss!
