Rambo First Blood (1982) - Full Reaction

Comments

Late to this but yes, Carly should definitely do a solo reaction based on your (Cassie) recommendation.

Martin Skouboe

Just catching up with a few reactions hence the late comment. The first Rambo for me is one of his best movies and up there with Rocky. The rest are just generic action films especially the 2nd & 3rd mainly because that’s what was popular in the 80s. I wouldn’t have a problem if you didn’t watch the rest as I don’t really think they are your sort of think & tbh it’s very rare I watch them I just tend to just watch the first one. And unlike this one which has an important message and just show how bad the vets got treated who served in Vietnam when they returned home. Which is crazy when you think about it because it’s not like they choose the war especially the one who got drafted.

Dean Holt

I was in sixth or seventh grade when that came out. I had a bunch of Rambo toys and a Rambo T-shirt that was probably my favorite at the time. I know what you mean, it's not an action adventure in the sense of Raiders of the lost Ark that you'd expect to spawn a generation of kids playing with Rambo stuff...but to kids Rambo was a heroic figure. As was Stallone in some ways.

sixstr1ng

You just wait you have yet to see what John Rambo is truly capable of. As the next 4 you'll find out why Rambo is so feared by his enemies.

Anakin Starkiller

I just finished watching this reaction on YouTube and this one finally got me to join patreon. I do hope you eventually watch the second Rambo. I think it’s considerably better than the first. I like the 3rd one as well. As you get to see his colonel in some action. But in my opinion. You should stop there. The 4th I'm not sure you would want to. I almost walked out of the theater on that one. And I grew up on action films.

Jim K

Thank you for watching this movie. Our veterans deserve respect and assistance.

Selah Schie

Love the idea of a solo reaction :)

Cade

this movie is 42 years old and it's fantastic. I guess I was 9-years old when I saw this in the theaters. First Blood is an excellent action-drama. The sequels really drop the drama and lay on the action. They are good for what they are, but this is the crown jewel of the franchise (IMO).

Walter

You both should see this franchise through to the Last Blood. I would love to see your reaction to all of them.

Timothy

Interesting. I had no idea that Rambo was supposed to be an allegory for PTSD in Vietnam vets. All I ever associated it with as a kid was crazy violence. Now I'm curious enough to give it a shot. ...no pun intended

Esther Boogie

What’s even crazier I remember in Sears catalogs in the toy section next to GIJOE, Transformers, He-Man and Batman were Rambo toys. Action figure toys. It transcends from what the first movie was into the 80s blockbuster. That said I still really like the second Rambo movie as it is about a proactive positive use of Rambo’s skills.

Jason Dolan

I agree, I usually dont watch the poll winners. they are not good movies, but thats why PiB is the best. she will suffer through those

zynjams

If Carly has not seen the Raiders movies, I'd love to see her react to the first three at the very least!

Jason Dolan

Alright so. This movie was based on a book, it was a single novel and it actually had a tougher ending than this movie did. The sequels that come after this movie are NOT based on the book, and to be honest, they almost completely go against what the book was all about, they turn this character from an allegory for PTSD Vietnam Vets trying to reconnect to civilian life and they turn it into a patriotic? Action series. The last couple movies get back to a bit of the spirit that this first movie captures, but I'll put my vote towards ending the series here. I think this movie stands alone better than as a part of the series it became.

KTVindicare

Hey hey, apologizes for my absence recently, been going through some tough times, plus I've been sick! I have to admit, I wasn't expecting the two of you to watch this movie out of the blue, since recently and no offence, most of the movies you've been reacting to have been either duds or one and done kind of movies, I'm sorry but I will never watch STAR TREK, I'm a dedicate STAR WARS fan and I will never switch over nor find middle ground! If you like STAR TREK as much as STAR WARS then more power to you Cassie, I applaud you for finding middle ground👏😁lol! Anyway, great reaction to one of my favorite movies growing up when I was younger, I encourage you to watch the sequels, they are entertaining, however I will warn you that the 4th and 5th films are pretty brutal in the violence department, quote from Carly, "not for the faint of heart" lol! Without spoiling anything, I think you and Carly will like the second one better than this one, don't get me wrong, FIRST BLOOD is a masterpiece and one of Stallone's best besides ROCKY, but the second one of this franchise is my favorite and I think you two will enjoy better! Lets just say the second film allows Rambo to have a chance of redemption! Though many can argue that the second and third films in the franchise are more for like promoting propaganda, but I disagree! To me, the message in this film tells us that we should never disrespect or treat our troops harshly when they come home after going through "HELL" fighting for their lives and sacrificing their lives so we can keep our freedom which may seem like we Americans take for granted when we shouldn't! Vietnam may have been a war America should never have been involved in, but every soldier in the Army and the Marines gave it their all, sure some did snap and start killing civilians, like what you saw in FULL METAL JACKET and PLATOON just to name some examples of what you've seen in Vietnam War movies, but many troops came back as heroes for their actions! Some trivia for you when they were filming this movie, during that crazy stunt when Stallone jumps off the cliff and onto those trees, you actually see the real injury that he sustained in the shot when he hit that branch, he actaully fractured a couple of his ribs and when you hear him scream in pain, that pain was real! In the book this movie is based on, Rambo never carried a knife, and at the end of the book, Rambo dies! This film almost went that route, but test audiences didn't like seeing Stallone die at the end, so they changed it! Kinda funny, if they went that direction, we never would've had the sequels, for better or worse lol! The character of John Rambo is loosely based on real life WWII veteran turned actor Audie Murphy, one of America's highly decorated war heroes! On a personal note, I love these movies! I love these movies a lot that, like my LOTR/Hobbit collection, I own a replica of each iconic knife from each film lol! Anyway, I'm glad you two watched this movie, I hope you can at least appreciate this movie, even if you didn't like it much, I do so hope you watch the sequels in the future! Don't worry, I'm still here, just taking a break lol! My vacation to Las Vegas starts in about a week, can't wait lol! Love and support to you and Carly as always, hope y'all and the family are doing well! You're the best, take care, [virtual hug🤗] God bless you, Carly and the family, and stay classy Cassie🥰😁😉😇🙏🌹 P.S. I personally think Rambo is more loosely based off of Vietnam War Hero Master Sergeant Roy Benavidez of the U.S. Special Forces (Green Berets)! I told you about him during your PLATOON reaction! Here's a link about his story, hope you enjoy it: https://youtu.be/0B2w0abQazg?si=n7hGGp_YJCWBhkxk

Wesley White

You are my calming influence Cassie, if it weren't for you; id be fighting the world because my Dallas Cowboys are horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jimmy Reyes

I can't criticize season 7, the screen was too dark to see. I assume awesomeness happened.

Author Travis Adams Irish

Finally a movie worthy of a reaction, and we get a tag team effort! I’m not gonna like every film choice, but there’s been some stinkers voted for recently and some great movies slipping into oblivion. This is a great movie, and definitely one of the defining roles for Stallone away from Rocky, but his competitiveness with Arnie got the better of him in the end. He was a great actor, but ended up a Hot Shots Parody.

Biggman83

Why would anyone put themselves through GOT again. Worst let down ever at the end, and it’s 3 seasons to long!

Biggman83

Or don't.

Stick Figure Studios

I saw this in the movies when it first came out. By then I was already a veteran having served 3 years in the Regular Army. I enlisted in 1978 and most of those who trained me and E-6 or above in my regular unit were Vietnam Veterans. I loved this movie. I went to college after that enlistment in ROTC and in 1986 I was commissioned in the Regular Army as an officer. I didn't really care for the 2nd Rambo, I tried to tolerate it, but anyone who has fired the M72A2 Law would understand the phoniness of one particular scene i.e., backblast area....etc., A much better movie than Rambo II was Uncommon Valor with Gene Hackman. But I loved First Blood, watching the end scene and knowing so many Vietnam Vets still makes me emotional all these years later!

Lana Gorgeous

There's a lot to like about this community... a lot of smart commentary and comradely... and of course Cassie and Carly... BUT so many of the requests and poll winers are just... well... The Rambo series might be okay for Cassie... maybe... but First Blood... for both sisters? First Blood is one of the great movies, it's just not prime PiB! Also, of all the incredible character roles in all the films of the great Brian Dennehy's distinguished career... these two are left thinking... Sherif Teasle?!? Not Great!

Terry Yelmene

You can't force someone to get care.

Mike Lemon

Remembered only a few parts when he snatched the scrambler bike, spike booby trap, stitching up his arm when I watched this with my last father in a theater when I was just 3yo

Russell Teo

As someone who didn't like the book, they made the right choice in changing it.

Joe Mallard

THANK YOU! Now do the next four!

Craig Russell

What's wrong with dumb action movies? 😂

Joe Mallard

His acting in Balboa and in both Creed movies are on par with those three movies.

Joe Mallard

The other Rambo films are just shut off your brain popcorn movies, the mud scene in 2 is one of the coolest moments of the series.

Joe Mallard

No chance.

Cole Jennett

Hell, let's bring in Cassie's husband for Game of Thrones, he sounds like a cool dude.

Author Travis Adams Irish

It's a good point, but Carly is getting good at turning away and having Cassie tell her when to look again.

Author Travis Adams Irish

There’s no chance Carly will be joining her if Cassie does decide to do it.

Cole Jennett

We SERIOUSLY do not treat our veterans the way they DESERVE. It's truly disgraceful how many veterans don't get the medical or psychological care that they need, least of all the reimbursement for the services they render to protect OUR freedoms. It's insane how we have a system THIS BROKEN.

Mark Schamber

The ultimate would be Cassie and Carly watching Game of Thrones. I would pay double for that experience.

Author Travis Adams Irish

+1 more for Cop Land (1997).

Larry Darrell

That exchange between Cassie and Carly was so great. That's what makes the two of them together so exquisite. They are not trying to be funny. They are just being honest and real.

Rick Williams

The trajectory of the Rambo series represents the coarsening of America filmmaking in the 1980s, as well as Stallone's increasingly bloated sense of self (in both physique and ego). First Blood feels like a hangover from the New Hollywood of the '70s. It's a serious, small-scale film with a tortured, introspective protagonist. A film that engages pointedly with America's attitude to its veterans post-Vietnam. It's one of Stallone's best performances. The sequels are cartoonish action-man fantasies with an absurdly muscled Rambo waging a righteous one-man war. “Do we get to win this time?” is one of the most representative lines of dialogue in the cinema of Reagan's America. Ted Kotcheff is a really interesting journeyman director. In the same year as First Blood he reunited with the great Brian Dennehy for Split Image, which is a fascinating film with one of my favourite James Woods performances. His 1969 film Two Gentlemen Sharing is excellent too. But his undeniable masterpiece is his nightmarish, sweat-soaked Australian thriller Wake in Fright. A singular and unforgettable film.

Henry Graham

Good reactions Cassie and Carly! I think the “Rambo” sequels is when Sylvester Stallone leaned into the complete action-fest movies. “Rocky” (1976), “First Blood” (1982) and “Cop Land” (1997) shows how good of an actor he once was, and probably could be again if it weren’t for the pigeon-holing into the massive action mindset. Back when this came out the idea of PTSD was pretty much in its infancy. This movie and 1977’s “Rolling Thunder” starring William Devane and Tommy Lee Jones, helped bring the issue of PTSD to the forefront for returning Veterans. Much like the death of Karen Carpenter’s death in 1983 brought on by anexoria nervosa, the conditions became more widespread and better understood.

Miles E Coburn

Add me to the list of those that would love to see a reaction to Cop Land. It’s a really fantastic movie and Stallone is great in it.

Just Plain Bob

Cop Land is a great shout. I’m sure it’s gonna leave them plenty bamboozled!

Shehab Dawoud

Yup. In the book he is a menace to society. Stallone did a lot with his script rewrite to give Rambo a heart. This film was in development hell for years with everyone from Burt Reynolds to Robert Redford being considered for the role.

pinkdino99

The sequels are a travesty. This film hits hard with real world issues - PTSD, police brutality, the way vets were treated when they returned from 'NAM. The sequels cash in on the success of this and just go full on DUUUUMB stupid action movie. Out of the cops hunting Rambo in the hills we have actors from Twin Peaks, Miami Vice and CSI Miami. A great non-action acting Stallone film that is hardly ever reviewed is called Cop Land with De Nero, Harvey Kietel, Ray Liota (Goodfellas) and John Spencer (West Wing) directed by James Mangold (Logan).

pinkdino99

The rest of the series bumps up the action a lot but it still has those themes of how soldiers are treated and Rambo being stuck in his PTSD. They are good movies, but very opposite from Rocky, as Rambo is a very tragic character lol Not too sure you and Carly will be able to watch the last two movies if you decide to do the whole series lol Rambo (2008) and Rambo: Last Blood (4&5) are extremely gory compared to the first 3. In a behind the scenes video, Stallone said that the military advisor for the 4th movie told him that the violence in that movie looks exactly how it does in real life 😬

Gilbert Gonzalez

If they stayed true to the novel it would have been worse for you ladies lol in the novel this film is based on, Rambo has no regard for human life and kills most police he comes across, even civilians die in the crossfire. It also ends with Trautman killing Rambo. Sylvester Stallone didn’t like this at all and had it changed to what it is now by almost quitting the movie lol Also, when he jumped from the cliff to the trees in the movie, Stallone actually did that stunt and the shot of him landing on the last branch was him actually in pain from breaking his ribs lol

Gilbert Gonzalez

"However Carly could be different." But I don't think she *wants* to be.

Mike Lemon

The sad thing is that this isn't much of an exaggeration. I have some friends with (PTSD), and they still don't get the respect they deserve. A lot of soldiers were treated like crap when they came back, and a lot of them are homeless, and they are just waiting for death. I can't remember all the movies you watched with Carly and those you haven't. You should have a Poll. I would like you all to watch Gone with the Wind. Yes, it's old, but it is in color. And it does have a love story.

Eddie Perkins

Born on the Fourth of July is the best Hollywood movie about Vietnam, starring Tom Cruise in his best acting role

Hail to the King

This was a pretty good movie. Gotta admit that ending speech by Rambo got to me. Brian Dennehy makes a very good villain, too.

thansen

Stallone wasn't just synonymous with Rocky, but also with Rambo, two iconic characters that came out of the 70s, 80s and 90s, just as Harrison Ford is synonymous with both Han Solo and Indiana Jones. What is amazing is that Stallone displays such range with two different characters: with Rocky, he portrays a very gentle, vulnerable man, and with Rambo, a very broken, haunted one. The action for both franchises is just background filler; it really is a pair of character-driven sagas

Paul Ark

Yeah, Rambo 4 is BRUTAL. But I dig it way more than 2 & 3.

Philip Alan

I feel like we're really stretching the definition of "Christmas movie" to the point of meaninglessness when we start including FIRST BLOOD.

Stick Figure Studios

No she shouldn't.

Carol_White

Crenna is so good and particularly when you consider that he was a last-minute replacement for Kirk Douglas who bowed out.

Stick Figure Studios

The bullet/eye exchange between Cassie and Carly reminded of that scene from Woody Allen's BROADWAY DANNY ROSE. "He shot him in the eyes." "Really? He's blind?" "Dead." "Dead. That's right because the bullets go right through."

Stick Figure Studios

Cassie yes you should see part 2 and part 3!

Heath

Yes! Carly with this movie: "Fly Away Home" (1996). 1969 my brother was drafted in April or May, before he graduated. My dad, his step-dad took us to a Seattle Pilots baseball game. After he left we'd get letters at least once a month. Then one day I came home and found mom crying in her bedroom. Later that evening she held the letter, she said Frank said he wasn't going to write anymore till he was coming home. Being the first war covered in 'the modern era' didn't help things. The way it was fought didn't help either. Media coverage was daily, daily tv news, daily newspapers, daily radio reports, magazines, etc. you couldn't get away from it. Then Munich happened... The Olympics future was uncertain. Those words yelled, the fights, the spitting the utter disrespect to our men and women in the services. They used to fly them home on commercial air services... After sometime they flew them via military aircraft to 'local' bases. Then my mom got the letter, he'd be home soon! It was such a relief that's hard to describe because up until that moment - we all were in a kind of state of limbo. Not knowing if he was okay, only presuming so since 'they' didn't send 'the telegram.' When he came home, you could tell he was a changed person. Before he was bright, outgoing, and a comedian. Not so anymore. Sometime later I talked with my mom when we were out on the porch. She said they've been attacked and he felt he wasn't going to survive. The American Armed Services didn't recognize PTSD till about 1977 or so. At times he tried to be his old self, but would fall silent. Then a few years ago he got cancer. Agent Orange was a chemical to deforest the jungles of Vietnam. The rest of his company that survived had gotten some form of cancer from AO and he did too. He passed last year.

Randolph Tirazona

The way this country treated the veterans of the Vietnam War is disgraceful. The problems they came home with were belittled, ignored, or blamed on themselves. While I like this movie I worried when it came out that it would make many fear Veterans, that they would be violent. I know/knew many veterans of Vietnam and can say this is the exception, not the rule. Despite all the programs public and private, I truly believe the Vietnam Memorial has done more to help them adjust, and to help us who never faced their world understand a tiny bit of their pain. If you go to Washington DC it is a must see. Great reaction as always, your honesty and empathy truly set you apart.

Keith Jones

Cassieisms "What is wrong with these people?" "I'd be like, my shift is over" "Would a bullet in the eye kill you?" Reaction Gold

Paul Imrie

I vividly recall watching this film in the theater when it was first released. The standout quote from the movie was delivered by the perfect actor for the role, Richard Crenna (1926-2003) RIP. Trautman: You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke. In Vietnam his job was to dispose of enemy personnel. To kill! Period! Win by attrition. Well Rambo was the best

Larry

Thanks for hanging in on this one.

Paul Imrie

“Oscar” is so fun and sweet. That should be Carly’s first solo movie reaction.

Uncle Phoenix

I somewhat agree with you Mike Lemon. When the internet was new most of my buddies liked to send me real life gore and graphic death. I had to tell them that I'm not into it. Even with "movies" I have an issue with it, but sometimes it's just part of it. For years I wouldn't watch Saving Private Ryan because I knew of the gore. However my love of the servicemen that kept the world free overcame my dislike of violence in that film. I feel Cassie is the same since she often watches gory war films and TV but she says it's important to know what real people had to suffer through. The part I disagree with is the "desensitization". I'm sure some people get desensitized, but its on the individual. I'm totally not desensitized to gore, and I know Cassie never will be either. However Carly could be different. Things like Robocop that are so over done and comical, it doesn't bother me. Kinda like Freddy and Jason kills. It's almost silly. However if I see a crushed car in real life, I'm horrified. I definitely can separate fiction and real life

Todzilla

FINALLY!!! I can now die in peace

Rosario Cicero

Yes. Carly should be substitute reactor for a movie. Movie selected by a poll.

Anthony Oberhauser

I'd skip the sequels 🙂, the first one is what we wanted to see. "What would you do colonel? Would you give him a hug or would you shoot him in the head?" "I guess I'd have to see him face to face."

Mannygogou

ok, I saw how it was confusing, the blue and yellow is a Korean service medal, the green, yellow with red is a Viet Nam service medal. the medal in the frame is blue yellow and red in the center. not an actual medal. also the bronze star seems to be off, the blue is thinner on the actual medal. my mistake.

zynjams

"Sequels... you don't just turn them off!!!"

ArsTropica

"Nothing is over!" This first movie is about pain... I think it shows no matter how good you are you're not immune from the pain that comes as a consequence of all that... And back then "no one would come to help."

Mannygogou

There are also things that are just bad for the soul. Pushing yourself to be desensitized to violence, real or imaginative, is one of those things for many people. I suspect Carly feels that way about herself. For me it is real life death and the like. I watched Daniel Pearl and vowed I would never watch anything like that again. It is one of the big reasons I only listen to "news".

Mike Lemon

You sure he was Viet Nam Vet? His age makes me think he might have been Korean War Vet rather than Viet Nam...

Richard Rolen

Given the surprise I had thought maybe Beverly Hills cop as that highly requested as well. Also thought it might be a Pleasantville. I never would have guessed this one but I'm glad you ladies watched it. Certainly an important movie for its PTSD angle. Stallone's monologue at the end is some great acting. You can add me to the chorus of other people saying that cliffhanger is more the Cassie and Carly version of this and would actually be a good watch for you guys if you wanted more Stallone. You can also count me as someone who would be interested in at least the experiment of a solo Carly reaction especially if it was say something that Cassie had watched and picked for her to watch. I think there's lots of great movies that Cassie has watched on the channel that would be great for Carly to experience. Maybe Candy in bed or Twizzlers in bed? "More popcorn in bed"

Canadianant

They would LOVE Blankman, especially after watching the MCU and Batman

william aaron sleeper

"You could do the right thing and take down your post or edit it." Hard disagree on that one. You should never take down a comment or edit it away. Just acknowledge a mistake, apologize if necessary, then move on.

Mike Lemon

Korea vet.

Mike Lemon

In Rambo II he definitely becomes more of a hero, especially to POW's.

Jorge De La Torriente

one part I never understood in the first blood movie was, the A hole Sherriff was a purple heart Viet Nam vet himself. you can see his ribbons in a frame behind his desk.

zynjams

Great Reaction Ladies. Thanks for coming along for the ride Carly. I think you did very well with this movie. You made it through the whole movie.

Rick Williams

I agree. People just want to dismiss them after the first or second movie. But, the fourth is worth watching.

Rick Williams

That's an opinion. A bad one, but you are entitled to it. 😉

Todzilla

Both Robocop 2 and Rambo 2 are absolute garbage and Cassie's time would be better spent doing just about anything.

Carol_White

Yep me too. These two girls are smart and intelligent. No movie, no matter how "bad" would permanently "destroy them" like a lot of folks say would happen. Sure they might think about it for a few days, but after that it's overwith. I was torn on Cassie's "IT" reaction. I was super happy she watched it, but slightly bummed she needed Ben halfway through. I mean if that's what it took for her to finish it then that's cool. I just think the reaction is different with Ben holding her hand off screen. Again MVP award to Ben for saving the reaction, but I really think Cassie would have been fine watching it solo. I love Cassie to death (in a platonic internet way 😆) and I'm thankful for her reactions. I'm fine with whatever she does. She just needs to give herself more credit, she's way stronger than she thinks.

Todzilla

Spitting on returning vets and calling them baby killer was a thing. Jane Fonda took it a step further and actually flew to Vietnam to tell American POWs in captivity how they fought for the wrong side and more or less deserved the treatment they were receiving. For myself personally I never went to war but did serve in both the Canadian and US army's. It took many, many years for me to re-acclimate to society after living in military culture. Rambo's breakdown in this movie is one of the best depictions of what many vets suffer through ever put to film. Thanks for watching this.

Jay Dunnavoci

I actually think the fourth one is better than the second one.

Stick Figure Studios

"well what war did any country "win"?" Revolutionary War (U.S.), Civil War (U.S.), WW2, Seven Day War...

Mike Lemon

Carly would have a hard time with some of the scenes, but the story would be much more in her alley.

Gábor Árki

This was a surprise indeed. I would have never guessed this one, especially after the "fun movie with Carly" remark from Cassie. To me, Stallone was always synonymous with Rambo. My father is an avid fan of action movies and I recall seeing parts of the first three films when I was young. This one still stands out to me today, because it has a genuine emotional depth. But I'm not a big fan of the sequels, which are just average action flicks, each increasing the "body count". The fourth one, called RAMBO, which you almost started watching, is especially brutal and bloody. I think if the sequels happen Carly should opt out. But the 4th may be a very hard watch even for Cassie. If you would like to watch a truly fun movie with Stallone, I can highly recommend OSCAR (1991). It's a very underrated screwball comedy, and frankly his only comedy worth watching, where he plays a 1930s gangster trying to "go straight".

Gábor Árki

Grinznmore

Cassie — don't know if you'll read down this far BUT if you do, you and Carly were wondering why he went back to the town and started blowing stuff up. Remember that he snapped in the police station. He's been trained in guerilla warfare he was imprisoned and then attacked. Once he snaps he's on default guerilla warfighting for virtually the rest of the movie until Col. Trautman confronts him at the end. From this perspective, his actions are actually textbook guerilla warfare. Consider: - The best time to hit your enemy is when they're not expecting it. They think he's dead, they've relaxed and the bulk of the forces (national guard, most of state police) have left. - When he gets to the town, his enemies are aware he's coming, but barely. He still has the initiative and immediately goes for points of vulnerability and value: - He sees the gas station as a fuel depot. By hitting it, he's depriving the enemy of fuel. He also creates a massive diversion away from his intended target requiring significant manpower to respond. - Next he hits the power sources (transformers) knocking down part of their power grid and giving himself more cover in darkness while temporarily disorienting the enemy. - Then he goes to the central ammo/armory area (the gun store) and destroys all the ammo and firearms, depriving them of the ability to reload and acquire more weapons. - Finally, after drawing away troops (i.e. the cops) to various disaster areas away from his target/central command area and creating general chaos, he engages at the target area and eliminates central command (the Sheriff). He only snaps back to reality after Trautman calls off the "mission," which, in Rambo's mind, is taking out a hostile enemy that targeted him. Anyway, that's why he does what he does in the last third of the movie. Finally, if you want another suspenseful Stallone movie (but with less PTSD), NIGHTHAWKS and CLIFFHANGER have held up well, with CLIFFHANGER probably being the better of the two. Thanks again for the great reactions from you both!

Above Average Dave

Carly solo- I don't know. I get the feeling she watches movies like I do, just silence. But if she does a solo or two, maybe do ones not on the channel yet. I don't want to go through that "just starting a reactions channel" list again (Gump, Green Mile, Shawshank, etc.). With Carly watching, I would, I just don't want to. I would prefer something like City of Angels, The Last Unicorn, Awakenings, etc., or even go back to the old Marvel with Blade (might be a bit blood heavy though), maybe some other superhero movies like Mystery Men or Blankman. edit- Oh!... Captain Ron (1992), a great Carly movie.

Mike Lemon

Cassie! You finally did it. I can't wait to watch this movie again with you. I haven't seen it in years. I loved this movie growing up. Hopefully I still love it as much now grown up.

Rick Williams

Yup Cliffhanger would be a good one for them to watch!

Johnny

The other movies are more straight up action movies.

RJ MacReady

I guess they renamed it. Like raiders was renamed Indiana Jones and the raiders of the lost ark

Glenn Gilman

I absolutely think Carly should keep pushing her envelope! I think she's a much tougher cookie than she knows. The only way to get there is to keep pushing that envelope. That being said, she's not read for Saving Private Ryan yet.

David Collins

Urban Cowboy! Fore a minute there I was thinking Midnight Cowboy, ( boy I don’t remember Debra Winger in Midnight Cowboy, how did I miss that?). I’ve never seen urban, cowboy, or terms of endearment.

Thomas Thompson

I had to have my copy (not 4K) play at 96%, so I'm guessing Amazon used a PAL version/framerate.

Mike Lemon

Yeah, I'm pretty sure she hasn't seen it. She mentioned in First Blood she's only seen one other non-Rocky Stallone, and I think that was Demolition Man.

Future Boy

I guess I was thinking of another channel.

Brian McGovern

I kinda have suggested a Debra Winger week with also Urban Cowboy, Terms of Endearment & Officer and a Gentleman. Theme week.

Shawn Kildal

I think she has already watched it.

Brian McGovern

Also Cassie, since you kept this a secret, there was no way for us to warn you that this isn't a Carly friendly moviy😅 So that's on you!😅 But actually I think it's good for Carly to press her boundaries. You did and look how much you've grown!❤️

Todzilla

Cassie so happy you watched this. I was one of the annoying guys that kept mentioning it to you. Much like Robocop 2, you have to watch Rambo (2). Yes yes, people will say it sucks compared to #1, but your inquisitive nature needing to know "what happens", will definitely be fulfilled.

Todzilla

The Cassie/Carly version of this film is Cliffhanger, trust me. One of Stallone's most fun. It's a little "heisty," a little "Die Hardy," a little "relationshipy." And great fun!

Future Boy

Yeah, i kept adjusting about every 30 minutes to keep it in sync.

Todzilla

OK, I'm caught up- when Rambo jumped on the truck the driver said there was an M60 in the back, Carly then made the M60 comment when he took the gun. M16s were mentioned at the very end by the colonel.

Mike Lemon

The last 2 (the newest ones are some of the best, but more gruesome)... love all the Rambo movies!

Julie Lazenby

I was watching using the 2007 Blu-ray, and right after the opening credits something messed up the sync by about 2 secs. Must have been an extra credit added or deleted, I don't know. After that it seemed fine the rest of the way.

Larry Darrell

I noticed a slight timing difference when watching the reaction and wondered why. As you mentioned, every 15 minutes or so, I’d have to hit pause for just a second on my copy to re-synch. This explains it. Thanks.

Just Plain Bob

Service announcement: if you would like to watch along with the 4K UHD disc, it won't sync up perfectly with the reaction. This release has the movie with 24.000 fps, while the version they were watching seems to be the more typical 23.976 fps. Not much difference, but you need to pause the 4K a bit every 10-15 minutes.

Gábor Árki

I grew up in the 90s watching all the 80s movies, so I knew all the Rambo movies as a kid… or so I thought. In 2007, I bought the Rambo blu-ray collection and was going to watch the films in order. I watched First Blood and to my amazement, I realized I had never seen it before. All the Rambo films in my memory just blended together, and I had a Blindspot when it came to the first. I was very pleasantly surprised. It’s been 16 years since I saw First Blood and I’m sure I’ve seen it more than 16 times. It’s one of my All-Time Faves. The Rambo films were never really my favorite growing up. They were just big action films. Even as a kid, I liked Story over Action. There needed be an emotional reason for the Action, in order for me to connect with it. That’s what I got out of First Blood (1982). This is way, way More than just an Action Film. I found it a little odd that Cassie thought it was Action-y, Boy-y, and Cool Kills. Like others have said, there was only One Official Kill. I felt that there was a reason for all the Action… not a good reason, obviously, but a reason that makes sense in the world we live in. It was believable and never went further than it needed to go for the Story. If Cassie ever watches Part II, Her mind might be changed. Honestly, I’m not really looking forward to her watching the others, but it just might give her the Contrast She needs. After watching all the Rambo movies, this One, First Blood, is the only one I regularly re-watch. By the way, the original ending had Rambo being shot to death. Stallone was adamantly against this. He was not going to be apart of something that told all of the Vietnam Vets that there was no hope for them. That there was no way back, because of course there is. So Stallone wrote his final breakdown scene and pieced together real stories that he had heard talking with other Veterans. No one can ever say anything against Stallone’s Talent as an actor after watching that scene. I Cry Every Time. The biggest surprise when watching First Blood was that Rambo wasn’t fighting in a war, instead he’s fighting against his own country… Or more specifically, Ignorant Small-Mindedness in his, and our, country. There was something to be learned from this film. Don’t Assume that you are always on the side of Righteousness, because without listening to and understanding the other side… when you dig your Foxhole to take a stand in, you won’t know if you’re in the Right-Hole or an Ass-Hole.

Larry Darrell

Oooh, I would love to see Presumed Innocent on this channel.

Matthew Folz

Well not Pleasantville 😔 But maybe you and Carly can watch it next month for Valentines Day. Also recommend America's Sweethearts, Nine Months & An Affair To Remember for February

Katie Jackson

Also filmed during the 80's when the Cold War was still going on.

Bill Maurer

@ Brent - Almost forgot about that as well. He is great and so believable as an actor in every role he had.

Bill Maurer

@ Shawn - Yup. I forgot he was in that one. Another great movie

Bill Maurer

Love Stallone but never really got into Rambo, particularly the later entries which just became gory exploitation flicks. Agree Cliffhanger is a better choice, one of his best.

Odd Thomas

Wow! That’s impressive. It made me want to sleep with Debra Winger, but I didn’t.

Thomas Thompson

Carly should watch Saving Private Ryan haha

Connor-WTF No BS Why No FF in the SS-Fenwick

I think now would be a perfect time to watch Cliffhanger (1993). One of Stallone's most fun films, and a perfect one for Carly to join you on. It's Stallone in the mountains again, but much lighter-hearted. It's a little "Die Hard-ish," and I think you'd love it. EDIT: Accidentally posted this in the Contact thread. Now moved here.

Future Boy

One of the first movies to deal with the aftermath of Vietnam from the POV of the veteran. Sadly, many vets felt that they came home to a country that didn't want them. This is why after Desert Storm and since, there was such an outcry of Support our Troops (as it should be, I believe). Also, how the small town law enforcement is portrayed is closer than people realize, as to maintain order, bullying and scare tactics have to be employed when you have six or seven officers to thirty-three hundred people. Also, calling in State Troops and the National Guard would also have been done, though the Sherriff would have been relieved of duty. Finally, from the Sheriff's point of view, who was a soldier himself, as shown by the medals behind his desk, he feels that Troutman is trying to give Rambo special treatment and not let him face his justice. Only when he thinks Rambo is dead, does he start to feel how he treated a fellow soldier was out of line, but not fully. In his eyes, Rambo should have "known better" as a soldier to dis-respect his authority as a law officer.

Chris Davis

Cassie ...please know that you will never be replaced in my heart BUT...it would BE awesome to see a Carly ONLY reaction. But it would be only fair to be a good ROM-COM. Something like TRULY MADLY DEEPLY or THE TRUTH ABOUT CATS AND DOGS.

Anthony Perez

When Carly mentioned the M60, Rambo was pulling one from the truck. Now, I did skip a bit of the middle so I could see the end before going to work, so if one of them messed it up there, I apologize, but Carly got it right at the truck

Mike Lemon

One of the things that I find interesting is that Col Trautmann has a CIB third award badge. According to his character's fictional biography, he only saw combat in Vietnam, so technically there is no way he qualifies for that badge.

David Bennett

No problem. Waste of time looking at some other posts though. :)

Brent Petty

Ok, there are M60's, but the movie was referring to M16's, watch it again, they do say it again after she made that comment

JPDotCom23

I have long wanted this reaction, and it was everything I wanted, and more, because Carly was there. Kudus to Carly for sticking through it, and thanks, ladies, for the wonderful reaction. You might have called him Rocky through the whole movie, but you called him Rambo at the end, he did get your attention!

Mike LL

What is said in these comments is what I came to say. Very unpopular war, lots of protests against the war, people fled to avoid service, and veterans of the war were not treated well in this country after the war in many cases. All of that is extra knowledge that helps one understand Rambo and events in this movie. May be Stallone's best screen performance in this movie, but he was very good in several of the Rocky movies, also.

Mike LL

Third. The Narnia movies, while not as good as LotR, are certainly better than Harry Potter - imo.

Richard Maurer

Thanks.

Richard Maurer

Great reaction! MAny young folks don't realize that vagrancy was an arrestable offense in many towns. They thought his flag was disrespectful because a lot of hippies in the counterculture wore them ironically back then. This movie spoke to a frustration that Vietnam vets were grossly neglected and mistreated upon return to the civilian life.

Scott Macaulay

There you go, getting their hopes up.

Mike LL

First Blood Part 2 is worth the watch, but not really the rest of them. I've seen them all and 4 and 5 get really gory.

Dustin Denner

it's first blood

pat on

I wish I could go golfing with him. He's been my image of masculinity since I was 4 years old.

Author Travis Adams Irish

Just so you know, there is a love story in Rambo 2, and it doesn't take place in a men's prison. Lol.

Author Travis Adams Irish

I’ll tell you what though, Stallone was pretty busy during the 80’s going back and forth between making Rocky and Rambo movies.

Tara

Pro Solo Carly Screening!

Ricardo Rodriguez

It’s funny because I was thinking about John Rambo VS John Wick, in both movies these men get provoked and start to fight back. John Wick goes around killing countless people and I really like those movies. To my knowledge only one person died in this movie when the cop fell from the helicopter which wasn’t Rambo’s fault. How interesting that I preferred the movie with more violence.

Tara

I’ve never seen any of these movies, but decided to watch with you ladies It wasn’t my thing, however his performance in that breakdown was brilliant. I will say that I read the synopsis for the second movie and see that they lean more into his military experience, so I might watch just to learn more about John Rambo

Tara

Stallone gets stick sometimes because of his acting but that last scene is one of the best pieces of acting I've seen. I definitely don't see this as a macho/testosterone/action film like, say, Predator. There is some proper depth to this. I believe it was the first film to truly touch on PTSD. Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter had a little bit of that too but not to the same extent. The 4th film, Rambo (2008) is more nuanced than the rest of the films in the series, but that's about it. The films deteriorate after this.

Shehab Dawoud

The sequels were essentially Hollywood cashing in on the success of the first one, which was originally based on a novel. Honestly, the story should've just wrapped up there. The whole thing was all about PTSD and how soldiers were treated when they came back home. The sequels were just action for the sake of action, missing the deeper message of the original. Don't get me wrong; I like action. I watched the sequels and enjoyed them. However, I can't help but wish they had crafted an entirely new story and character, leaving the original as a standalone masterpiece.

DougJitsu

brooke watch the last 5 mins - might change your mind...

ArsTropica

Carly! Awesome! Dude, I needed this video after a brutal workday. I love that this channel doesn't frown on masculinity. Also, I try to be more open-minded about romantic movies. Crazy, Stupid Love is my favorite. Romance isn't my favorite subject because I find that modern women don't want it. They just want to get to the bedroom and get off. I'm not complaining, or maybe I am. I don't know. Anyway, in a time when masculinity is under attack by the modern world, it's beautiful that these ladies can enjoy it in their own way. And I will straight up watch romantic movies if they recommend any. Like I said, women these days just want to get off. I did have a lady friend put on my belt after we had our time together. That was a little romantic. I also danced with her to Ladies Night by Kool and the Gang. Maybe real romance comes in small doses. Question for the community, I once asked a woman if we could read the same book together and meet once a week to talk about it. I thought that would be a cool experience. But she said, "that's gay." So I told her to F off and hooked up with her roommate. Anyway, I love this content, it's much better than woke Disney. So many companies are bashing men, I'm glad we still have this warm corner of the Internet.

Author Travis Adams Irish

2 and 3 (haven't seen the last two) become more '80s action movie. They almost feel like Rambo is a different character.

Mike Lemon

"Haha M60's, that's cute. It's M16's. " Especially since she was right and you aren't.

Mike Lemon

Thank you for this reaction! I consider this movie an action/drama (with some plot commentary on the treatment of returning veterans). Stallone makes me cry every time I see him break down in this one. Skip It: The next Rambo movies are action/thrillers aka Summer blockbusters because the first movie had good reviews. Good, but NOT worth an uncomfortable reaction in my opinion. UNLESS we get more: Carly: “I think it was a ricochet. Because a bullet to the eye would kill you.” Cassie: “It would kill you, a bullet to the eye?” Carly: “Well, it’s the HEAD [Cassie]!!” The blew the last of my Starbucks: Christmas Blend coffee all over the coffee table & sofa cushion. We stopped to clean up after that exchange. Worth it!

Ike

Both would be good. So would Apollo 13.

Brent Petty

The medals are quite impressive too. Distinguished Service Cross (only award higher is the Medal of Honor). He also had a Silver Star (3rd highest award for valor), and a Purple Heart. In the book he was a Marine veteran, so it should have been the Navy Cross, but that's just a nitpick.

Brent Petty

Silverado. He's a great villain, and it's got Danny Glover and young Kevin Costner.

Brent Petty

It's because he's on a power trip, ya know? :)

Brent Petty

I'd love that. Once a month, Cassie chooses a film she's seen on the channel before, and we get to see it again with Carly. So many great films could get a second life on the channel. Solos would be great fun, and very different than sitting there with somebody who's already seen it.

Future Boy

Honestly I don't really care for the rest of the Rambo movies, but this one is special, that last scene always gets me, I mean I love Schwarzenegger but I don't think he could pull off the emotionality that Stallone does in this. Such a tough, almost super human character suddenly showing that he's a vulnerable human being with a heart full of pain and loneliness, it's crushing. Well obviously you can see he's been traumatized, literally tortured, but to so quickly switch from a trained killer, almost Terminator like, to just a man trying to feel some connection to humanity again, with Troutman, it literally hurts. But on a brighter note I have to mention Stallone's little dig at Arnie, because Arnie never did any of his writing, Stallone was not only a writer but also directed several of the Rocky movies, they're good friends now but that was a crazy little rivalry they had in the 80s haha

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Wow. You almost watched Rambo? Now THAT would have been interesting. Carly would have needed smelling salts just watching the credits alone. Certainly dodged a bullet. 😄

Brian McGovern

What a nice surprise, and such a great way to present it, I'm going to enjoy watching this one with you girls :-)

shireknight

Yeah, that wouldn't be a fun reaction for her. I think she mentioned before she wouldn't watch movies that had violence against kids.

Nismo

This was a pleasant surprise! Truthfully, I had given up, but now so pleased and grateful for something spontaneous. This is a favorite and yet another one that showcases Stallone’s acting prowess. Sylvester Stallone is one of only two (2) actors whose performance have brought me to tears more than once. BTW - LOL you ladies should know by now not to judge a movie by its title (Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, The Mummy, etc) 😁

Ike

there is no way you can watch the movie Rambo. where Rambo saves some missionaries after they are kidnapped. that one is my favorite but it is brutal.

zynjams

Wow, a late Christmas movie gift. Thanks guys.

Powers209

You two have to watch 'Rambo, First Blood Part 2', it's not as gory as this, it's more of an 80's comic book action movie.

JPDotCom23

Haha M60's, that's cute. It's M16's. The gas station and the police station were built specifically for the movie, so they could be do stuff with them.

JPDotCom23

Yeah, that's my sense too.

Stick Figure Studios

I have a feeling this might be a one and done with them. Carly for sure.

Shawn Kildal

Yes, I agree they would be difficult to watch, but it's more for the background information on Vietnam and how unpopular that war was, especially for returning vets and Americans.

JPDotCom23

"...and we're watching First Blood!" Me: "Oh, they're gonna love the rats..."

Keith Jacobsen

Presumed Innocent with him would be my top choice. Dennehy is such a good actor.

Shawn Kildal

Awesome suggestion!

Shawn Kildal

Someone brought up Mr. Holland's Opus as a suggestion. So glad to see it's in the top 50 requests on Planner's website. Closest sentimental movie to It's A Wonderful Life I can think of. How someone's life can affect so many others in such a positive manner. Probably my #1 suggestion for the ladies.

Shawn Kildal

Both would be a very difficult watch for Cassie, and an impossible watch for Carly. Deer Hunter is also a similar movie, great acting but many horrific scenes would be too much, for so than Kill Bill.

John Liebling

Been trying to get them to watch that going on 3 years now (talking about Officer and a Gentleman). It's literally the movie that made me want to become a military combat pilot (and I did!).

Art of Free Speech

I'll second A Few Good Men for Carly or maybe The Fugitive.

Shawn Kildal

You mean Rambo: First Blood Part 2. There is no Rambo 2.

sarCC

A gem of a movie.

Stick Figure Studios

I'd definitely enjoy watching a solo Carly reaction. Maybe something that Cassie has seen and thinks Carly would also have enjoyed if she'd been there - I'm sure there's been a few reactions I remember where Cassie has commented "Carly would enjoy this".

Sarah Frost

Mitch, the red head cop, was played by David Caruso, who went on to 'NYPD Blue' and 'CSI: Miami'

JPDotCom23

This is the first action Christmas movie, not 'Lethal Weapon', and not 'Die Hard'.

JPDotCom23

I'll also throw out my vote for Carly to do a solo reaction. 12 Angry Men or a A Few Good Men would be my votes just because I love those movies so much. :)

Matthew Folz

Vietnam war was very unpopular in the US, soldiers that came back from that war were badly mistreated, that's why Teasle was like that him. You should watch a couple of other movies related to soldiers returning from the war, like 'Born on the fourth of July' or 'Coming Home'.

JPDotCom23

Stallone released 'Rocky III' in May 1982, and 'First Blood' in October 1982. This movie was shot in British Columbia, the town scenes were shot in Hope, BC.

JPDotCom23

I prefer star trek over star wars, but then again I might say the opposite when the next SW show comes out 🙂

Ronny Boss

The only good one in the series. The rest range from stupid to mean. A film you’d both enjoy is Son of Rambow (2007) starring Will Poulter.

Jacob King

4 is the best one after this one.

Joe Mallard

Agreed, although I think it's a good film, I don't think they would want to watch that one. That being said, it is a good movie.

Ronny Boss

I second that

Ronny Boss

Well that was a treat, thank y'all for that. Carly doing a solo reaction would be fun. #AskCarly if you had a reaction channel what would you name it? Stay Awesome Ladies, hope ya have a great weekend

Ronny Boss

Thanks for giving it a shot. For a future Cassie and Carly reaction more y’alls kind of movie, please do MR. HOLLAND’S OPUS. Great for end of school or back to school!

SeanATX

Love the idea of a Carly solo reaction! But please make it a movie Cassie has already seen otherwise we'll feel bad about not getting a Cassie reaction.

Eli van Aggelen

Unexpected, I rarely get around to watching this one, I like this one and III the most, II is good but as mentioned the next couple are pure 80s which makes them good in their own right if you know what to expect.

Bubba Fett

"SelAntro?" really? 😂

John Sullivan

fixed.

Brent Petty

U guys will enjoy Rambo 2 better because you will be able to relate to the enemy more. He goes back to Nam to find missing POWs

thomas king

Filmed in Canada, of course. That was fun, thanks. And just an FYI, this is definitely the pinnacle of the Rambo series.

Bill Hayden

The ladies would love the first two Crocodile Dundee movies.

Just Plain Bob

Also, we seriously need to get these girls to watch Chronicles of Narnia. Seriously. They would absolutely love it.

Astraeos

If you are using stats as a measuring stick for the type of movies to watch, consider the following: 1. Singing in the Rain 4.6 stars, 100% Rotten Tomatoes 8.3 IMDB 5/5 common sense media... 2. On The Town IMDB 7.3 and 93% Rotten Tomatoes... 3. American in Paris IMDB 7.2 and 95% Rotten Tomatoes. Sure, they've got songs you've not heard before, or dance routines you've never witness before...but they have humor, wholesomeness, love stories, and happy endings. You've been brave trying scarier movies you never would have thought to try over the last year or two. Why not watch three great classical musicals sure to put a smile on your face. You've also built up a well-established platform. So, even if the majority of the PIB community is not into musicals they'll take the ride with you and Carly. You've taken a chance on Star Trek and you're about to watch a really good one in #4...you've also mentioned you'll be watching all 6, even though you thought there were only 3. I am not sure what else I can say to persuade you to give Musicals a try. These are the top ones. There are also plenty of other good films starring the impressive Fred Astaire. Gene Kelly stars in the three I listed above. One of the female dancers you've seen before, Vera-Ellen, she was in White Christmas. I don't want to push too hard for this. I certainly don't want to annoy you. I think I am getting close to that, because I've suggested this many times. So, I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best sometime over the next few months.

John Liebling

Just a heads up/warning, if you do decide to continue the series, Part 4 has violence against children. That one doesn't hold back on the violence and gore.

Nismo

Book Spoiler

Richard Maurer

So in the closing, you basically described the entire franchise. So I stayed up with my dog and watched this with you. Great reaction. I am with you that he will always be Rocky. I absolutely loved Carly's reaction. It was perfect. You two definitely are sisters you compliment each other so well. I don't care what movie franchise it is. Even my most disliked franchise Star Trek. I will still watch it, but only with you though. As always great reaction both of you #GoBlue Godspeed.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Apollo 13 would be a good one.

Brent Petty

"Cool kills?" There was exactly ONE death in the entire film. If that was too much for you, it's fortunate they didn't follow the book more closely.

Brent Petty

3:19 seconds into the Reaction. I Applaud You Both for keeping the suspense. This was a Cool Idea. While watching video, I could see the Top line of the comment 15 up from here and was trying to think of something with a Part 2 and 3. Then I remembered Crocodile Dundee was high on the list… got really, really excited. Then you said Rambo and excitement dropped only very slightly, but a different kind of excitement picked up the slack. I Love First Blood… but I’m really looking forward to Them seeing Crocodile Dundee. Then I couldn’t help reading Robert da Spruce’s post, and now nervousness is setting in. Dang it. The First is the Best… the Rest Less. Hmm. To Bed Now… Tomorrow I Watch.

Larry Darrell

Hi Cassie and Carly. I'm glad you guys made the choice to watch a tough movie. I applaud Carly for making it through, even though there were parts that really didn't agree with her. Carly was correct about the M-60 being a light machine gun, 7.62 caliber. It was a mainstay of the us military for several decades. This is one of my favorite films. Stallone did a great job calling attention to PTSD afflicted vets which is something very few movies had addressed up till that point. I personally think the sequels are not really worth the watch and they just get worse as time goes by. I would like to address a few things. I am one of the minority of people who read the book before seeing the film. There are some notable differences and of course, a book can shed insight into a character in ways that no film really can. I don't know if you noticed or not, but there is a case with military medals in it on Teasle's desk at the police station. He is, in fact, a Korean war veteran and part of the reason he disliked Rambo from the get-go is because he feels that his service in the early 1950's to the country was largely ignored. Another reason is because he genuinely thinks that men like rambo will come in droves to his small town and bring drugs and crime with them. (By the way, in the book, the town is a fictional town in Kentucky. Why they chose to move the location to Oregon is beyond me) In the film, Rambo is indirectly responsible for just one death, which was Galt falling from the helicopter (to be fair, in the film, he WAS an asshole and helped cause the awful situation. In the book Galt was an inexperienced officer just trying to do his job when Rambo's PTSD kicked into overdrive). In the book, Rambo was way more bloodthirsty. In fact, when the sheriff and his posse were hunting him in the forest, Rambo actually kills all of the deputies and seriously injures Teasle. That is 13 men dead in the book before Trautman arrives on the scene. Also, in the book, Trautman and Rambo had never actually met each other. Trautman had been involved in the training program that produced the Green Berets in Rambo's A team. In the novel, Rambo has been run out of 15 different towns before the one where he and Teasle cross paths, and Rambo is just sick to death of being judged so unfairly based on pretty much nothing but his appearance. One of the biggest differences between novel and film is the ending. In the book, Teasle succumbs to his wounds shortly after Trautman shoots a dying Rambo in the head with a shotgun. I guess they decided that was just too dark for the movie. PTSD is a very real and very serious consequence of the sort of things that military combat vets experience and I'm glad that some films willing to address it. Watching First Blood PT II might be worth it. It is basically a straight military action story, not really so much with the subtext of ptsd and civilians being buttheads. If Carly is looking for suggestions for a solo reaction (which I fully support, btw) perhaps she can consider a few of these: (assuming of course that she hasn't seen them) O Brother Where Art Thou Big Trouble, with Tim Allen Galaxy Quest Zoolander Bend it like Beckham A Knight's Tale Uncle Buck

David Bennett

Well, that was about what I expected in terms of a reaction. I probably would not have suggested Carly join you for that one, Cassie, because, as she said during it, it's not really her kind of movie. I will admit that it was a little amusing seeing you ladies expecting something very different and discovering what it was you were really in for. FIRST BLOOD is definitely not like ROCKY which is a more straightforward, feel good story with a more noble, heroic central character. John Rambo is darker, more tortured and more complex (even Rambo's main theme "It's a long road", you'll notice, is much sadder than Rocky's rousing "Gonna fly now") and Stallone plays him brilliantly, not just the physicality but the emotional breakdown he has at the end which I think is some of his finest acting. As you both rightly observed, Rambo was suffering from PTSD, but they didn't really know much about that yet back then. This was one of the first major Blockbusters to deal with that subject as well as with the shoddy treatment that Vietnam veterans received upon returning home. When you are suggesting the Rambo just sneak away at the end, you were able to do so because you're still thinking rationally. Rambo was no longer rational at that point. He had regressed back to the kind of unfeeling killing machine he was in Vietnam and he had declared war on this quaint little town which more or less symbolized the civilized society that rejected him. The action is of course spectacular and thrilling in this movie but what gives it resonance is that it is thematically rich and actually has some depth and emotion. This is by far the best of this series. After this, Rambo turns into a more one-dimensional and conventional action movie hero as the movies get more ludicrous and cartoony although the violence gets even more brutal and graphic. I can't really recommend you go on with it, but if you do, definitely let Carly sit them out.

Stick Figure Studios

Damn, I was hoping it was going to be Bachelor Party...

Hail to the King

Great reaction, ladies, and an absolutely delightful surprise! This is one of those rare occasions in which the movie is far better than the source material. The novel the movie is based on is ok, nothing special. Rambo in the book is much less of a sympathetic character than in the film. I love this movie but felt like the sequels were a big drop in quality, with the Rambo character essentially turned into a superhero with a gun.

Just Plain Bob

Can't wait for #2 of this, and Robocop 2❤️

Todzilla

Just an FYI on the National Guard. They are not local but run by the Governor of the States. They portrayed them as bozo’s but in reality most of them were veterans. During the war on terror there were times when the National Guard/Reserves had more troops deployed than the regular army. I will admit however between 75 and 82 there were plenty of weekend warrior types.

Jason Mangen

Definitely a b movie. Easier to watch if you drink. An Officer And A Gentleman, a grown up movie, even a romance. Even Carly would like that one. And it stars a young Richard Gere.

Thomas Thompson

2 and 3 are mostly just fun cheesy action films that I think you’ll have fun with if you like Stallone. 4 legitimately is good and a nice payoff but it is heavy on the violence.

Night King01

The Rambo combo.

Nathan Swapp

All I will say is yes he goes to prison

Jason Mangen

Have you guys seen the sylvester Stallone documentary on Netflix. It’s really good and he gives a lot of insight into the first Rambo film and the changes he made from the original book mainly Rambo not killing anybody in this film which in the book it is way darker

Night King01

And the gore factor was turned up to 11.

Brian McGovern

Wow. First Blood. Cool. Know this though. The sequels devolve into uour typical blockbuster action with no real emotional core. The last 2 in particular devolve into an absolute bloodbath. The gore factor is unrelenting. This is not trying to deter you from watching, just forewarning you that these are not like the Rocky franchise.

Brian McGovern

In the scene where he jumps off the cliff and lands in the tree Stallone actually did 1/3 of that fall and landed in the tree. Broke one of his ribs on the way down. That’s why he screams in the movie when he lands on the branch. Talk about going all out for a role.

Michael Lynch

Of the remaining sequels, 4 has the best story (and an important one too, focusing on a current real world conflict), but I 1000% percent guarantee the violence in that movie is something Carly could not handle.

Christopher B.

Great surprise ladies! Ok. Maybe Rambo isn’t for you. Especially Carly 😂 But at least you guys will understand when anyone references Rambo in other films and TV shows now. Which actually happens a lot! 😁 I’m definitely down to see a solo Carly reaction. Pick whatever movie you want Carly. Something you’ve really wanted to watch, but never got around to. I’m game. All in all, I enjoyed the reaction! I think I like this surprise format! I’d be Ok if you do it every once in a while Cassie

Robert da Spruce

Part two and three are very different movies, but they are still really cool.

Michael Lynch

I don’t know man at the end of a few good men when Jack Nicholson gets intense, Carly might start crying

Michael Lynch

The sequels (particularly 2 and 3) are very different to this, much more standard heroic action movies that kind of do away with all the themes of this movie. Rambo 4 aka the movie you had queued up to watch originally is one of the most violent movies I've ever seen, was a blast in theaters but I highly doubt you'll end up watching it and I don't blame you, sometimes movie franchises just don't click with people

Choof

They are pure 80s cheese and I love them as guilty pleasures. Stallone was just like let me go win every war we lost with Rambo lol

Night King01

Wow.. what a bold move! Love It but definitely not for Carly 😂

Wes

I love you guys said ouch when Stallone jumped off the cliff and landed on the tree his screams of pain are real cause he broke a rib doing that fall

Night King01

Rambo Ii and III are just action movies with a lot of violence. IV actually tells a good story on the background of the Burmese war.

Bill Maurer

Hope B.C. My mother was born there. I visited the town back in 2019 for the first time and traced my roots! They still have Rambo stuff up on their windows. Great little town!

Philip Alan

Rambo: First Blood: He Makes Towns Pay - makes a good title, Cass! Ha! Great reaction! Glad you two watched this movie!

Philip Alan

Well, what a surprise! I can't wait to see this movie for the 100th time with you gals. It's only one of the best films ever made.

John Cranberry

Well you were right, I was surprised! My call was this would be a chick flick, and very much the opposite! I'm glad you picked this one, this movie absolutely has a lot of emotional weight to it concerning PTSD and mistreatment of Veterans in America. Great choice girls, can't wait to watch the reaction

Astraeos

Cassie, you should make Carly do a solo reaction to Predator 😁

Raj K. Dixit

Brian Dennehy (sp) is such a great actor. You should add F/X on your list of movies to watch

Bill Maurer

You did say that you were planning on watching this in 2024, so it's not a big surprise. Watching with Carly is a surprise. A BIG YES to a Carly solo reaction. That would be fun. Especially if it's a movie you've reacted to. "Rear Window", "Airplane!", "12 Angry Men", "Stand By Me", "Romancing the Stone", "A Few Good Men". Those are all "Carly Safe" movies!

Mark Vaderr

1st off Happy birthday Carly! I've always been hesitant to suggest it for fear of hurting Cassie's feelings but YES Carly should do a solo reaction! I promise to watch it too even if its a romance. As for the surprise- it was a good one! I'm super picky (it sucks) and the last few weeks the movie choices have not been up my alley. Well suprise! Here's a reaction to a movie I like. No its not a top 10er but its one of those movies that when it came on tv you stuck around to watch it. In my opinion the sequels aren't worth watching, they start to feel like generic action movies pretty quick.

My_Cousin_Mose

The suspense of the reveal was worthy of Hitchcock!

Hunter DeRensis

Oh I’m use to that. Luckily this isn’t YouTube and people here and much nicer.

brooke atkins

I’m sure you will hear differently about why we are wrong😂

Cole Jennett

yes please. Pirates of the Carribean series with Carly!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jimmy Reyes

I made it through about 15 minutes and I was done. Definitely a macho guy movie.

brooke atkins

Stallone is so good in this!

Joe Mallard

I would love to see solo Cassie react to something you've already seen. One of the big ones like Shawshank or Green Mile. If you feel awfully feindish, I recommend The thing, or Alien.

Jaccob Cortes

Filmed in Canada

Bill Maurer

Wow!!! I was chomping at the bit for Star Trek 4, but I'm happy to wait another couple of days to watch this!!

Shawn Kildal

Not mine either but I figure I owe it a second chance🤷‍♂️

Cole Jennett

I’ll pass on this one. Definitely not my kinda movie. But I hope you girls enjoy it and I know a lot of people are so happy you’re watching this.

brooke atkins

Congrats. I once told you, you should complete the Holy five of 1980s action-movies (Terminator, Die Hard, Aliens, Predator and this one). Now you done it. I was sceptical before I watched it because I thought it was him running around and killing people en masse. I haven’t watched the rest though since I think they go in that direction the more the series progresses.

Björn Von Knorring

What a nice surprise!!! Saw this soooo many times growing up!

nick bell

Hahahaha. Literally since there was an actual cartoon hahaha

djKENTO

Have Carly do a solo reaction to A Few Good Men, that is only if she has yet to watch it…

JL_83

Ditto. The character went from a torn, sympathetic 3-D person to a cartoon.

Above Average Dave

Might be an unpopular opinion but I am not a fan of these movies. But I haven’t seen it in years so I’ll watch it again with you two.

Alex Gorell

OH MY GOODNESS! One of my favorite movies! I honestly believe Stallone should’ve gotten an Oscar nomination for the last five minutes alone. Also, one of the first movies to acknowledge PTSD. Kudos to the both of you!

Above Average Dave

Oh what a glorious treat! 😁 And, just outta curiosity, what is the allotted time frame for a surprise to ware off? 🤭

Zane From Canada

As soon as you asked Google when Rocky came out, my Google Nest mini had to answer...

Sam Fuller

Hell yeah!! So stoked for this!

Simmeland

You're right to be surprised that there are so many sequels. The tone of this franchise transforms pretty signifigantntly

Neill Shaughness

Watched on Amazon! I'm not sure...

Cassie

Well, this one has been a long time coming. Very curious to what you both think of this.

Stick Figure Studios

How will Carly handle this?😅

Todzilla

Hell yes! Now all you have to do is watch Conan the barbarian with Schwarzenegger

Michael Lynch

Wait is the uncut or theatrical version?

Todzilla

So much for going to bed early tonight! Heck yeah, this is going to be fun!

Mike H

Way not worried! :)

Celeste McAllister

Oh a classic! I love this one but I can’t stand the rest of the franchise.

djKENTO

here

christopher b swanson

EXCELLENT!!!

Philip Alan

Dang? I want to spoil it but it's one Ive been waiting a while for. I think I'll watch the full reaction right now!

Todzilla

OMG!!! Yeah, baby, yeah...

Ramzi M. A. Ramzi

Yes on the Carly solo reaction!

Bill Maurer

This was pretty awesome to hide it

Philip G.

yay! 🥳

Santos Carrillo

I'm worried!!!🤷

Todzilla

Don't worry, I'll update the post with all the links and stuff once the surprise has worn off :)

Cassie
