[YT Edit] Contact (1997)

Hey guys! Here is the YT edit for Contact, which will premiere shortly!

Here is the full reaction to this movie.

[YT Edit] Contact (1997)

Comments

i think one of Foster's best performances. Having to make all that stuff up in her head and make us believe it. "Oh my God it's Vega!"

Paul Rich

Yes. I've been pushing for that reaction for over a year.

ArsTropica

Both Cassie and Carly should watch Gattaca.

Kristin D

Ellie’s character and grace is to be admired, regardless of belief. Same with Palmer. He also carries the same grace. I love how the two are seemingly on opposite sides, but they both reach the same point of knowing. Just different paths to get there.

Kristin D

Haha, for sure.

Author Travis Adams Irish

Ugh, I love Contact. Especially because of the maturity, grace, and fiery courage that Jodie Foster's character models. The way she fights hard for her work & what it means for humanity, but also chooses her battles wisely. When the guy who defunded her work then tries to take credit, puts her down at the briefings, and gloats in her face, she just keeps making it about the work, the mission. He's trying to make it about him being better than her. But for her, it was never about proving herself to anybody. Her integrity and the humanity of her story always stayed with me since watching this as a kid. Like her, I'm not religious and I've dedicated my career to medicine. But I am spiritual, and I believe we are never truly alone. I haven't always been good at picking my battles or disengaging from bullies, but I can always come back to this movie for reference. ;)

Esther Boogie

Could not agree more! It's SO good.

Average White Man

😂 But Sara is seriously amazing!

John Sullivan

Indeed. At it's heart, the movie has... well, heart :-) , and it comes through even on a lousy home system, but it is also evident just how spectacular it must be in, say, IMAX 3D. Oh well, maybe one day.

Happy Hanukkah

Yep, interesting. What is even more interesting is visiting this planet hunter's den; you should see some of the planets she's had stuffed and mounted. :-P An article about her: https://magazine.utoronto.ca/people/alumni-donors/the-search-for-another-earth-astronomer-sara-seager/ (One relatable item from the article: the remarkable experience of first seeing the nighttime sky well away from urban lights. That was the first time I truly understood the Milky Way moniker.)

Happy Hanukkah

I'd enjoy seeing that in theaters as well. A film like that is meant for the big screen, just floating around in the vastness of space.

Louis Chapman

We now know whose home cinema system not to steal. :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Apropos space movies, I never got around to seeing Gravity in theater when it came out. Pity. I wish it would re-play somewhere in my general vicinity at some point.

Happy Hanukkah

Dude, if we're getting more Carly, I am an Extra Butter member for life. Cassie is amazing, but the dynamic that Carly adds takes it to another level. The videos with both of them are like a warm fire on a cold day. And I'm snowed in here in Salt Lake City, so all I can do is Scrooge McDuck my money. Lol. I did go $7,000 shopping spree for outdoors stuff. Got the Dan Wesson DWX 9mm which won gun of the year. And the Sig Sauer P320 XTen Endure, which is a 10mm bear gun. Looks amazing! Then a $2,000 Burris Eliminator 5 rifle scope, which is incredible and Mossberg Patriot LR Rifle with bipod. And a Mossberg 940 JM Pro competition semiautomatic shotgun, which is sweet! Anyway lots of outdoor adventures for the Spring. Hopefully, Cassie and Carly can distract me from shopping. Thank you Popcorn Crew! More randomness and surprises would be amazing!!!!!

I think now would be a perfect time to watch Cliffhanger (1993). One of Stallone's most fun films, and a perfect one for Carly to join you on. It's Stallone in the mountains again, but much lighter-hearted. It's a little "Die Hard-ish," and I think you'd love it.

Future Boy

Ach, I well remember this German fellow informing me that "Time, it needs time."

Happy Hanukkah

NASA's budget is less than 0.1% of US GDP - which probably more than pays for itself in new technological discoveries

John Sullivan

Carly "Isn't time, time?" Einstein: "Vel, it's a bit more complicated..."

John Sullivan

I just don’t like this movie. I mean it’s fine. But the whole science vs faith. Scientist discovers faith through science. Blah blah. Whatever. 2001 did it better. Still always fun to watch along though

Don

Nice reaction ladies! A little space, a little science, a little love story. What's not to like! 😃

John Courtright

Sara Seager (a real planet hunter) said a lot of women in astronomy had lost their fathers. I have no idea why, but it's interesting

John Sullivan

This was a very satisfying reaction! Love this film, loved y’all’s reactions! Now you can’t mention Interstellar and not have a reaction video for Interstellar!! Get on it girls! I know you’ve seen it, but you said you were half asleep or something. Watch again pretty please?!🙏🏻

Patrick Gibbs

Holy geez, 2:55 scared the crap out of me man.. 😲😂

PastaDon

If you train a vast array of giant-dish radio telescopes in my direction, there is a chance you might detect the faintest signal indicating the possibility of sarcasm. But as always, more funding will be needed to come to any conclusion. :-)

Happy Hanukkah

So in the premier someone said it was Carly's birthday?!? :)

Randolph Tirazona

Fantastic reaction ladies! The jump scare in the beginning was hilarious. I loved how Carly’s focus shifted to Matthew McConaughey every so often, even when he wasn’t on screen.

Dan M

Cassie and Carly. A joy to watch you two interact. Happy birthday, Carly! Love the ball cap. Not because of the logo but because I have a thing about women wearing ball caps.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

Do I detect a bit of sarcasm…? 😉

Dan M

I’m sure you have 50million things planned, but I hope you do Loki season 2 soon. 🤞

Bryan Erickson

Not that I noticed you asking, but Kent Clarke ("blind guy") is played by the respected William Fichtner. You might remember him from a memorable guest appearance on The West Wing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF1dc_XtVNY As pure fiction goes, that episode was quite good. This is from a commentary track of that episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uEaYbwggKE

Happy Hanukkah

Since Cassie is into space exploration lately, I recommend 2010: The Year We Make Contact. It's better than it should be and is more approachable and human than 2001.

Scott Macaulay

Jodie Foster is s such a great actress

Bill Maurer

True, the movie might officially be two and a half hours long, but it goes by practically instantaneously. Believe me!

Happy Hanukkah

I'm so excited to watch you all watch this one! One of my favorite movies (and the book is even better if you get a chance!) I <3 Carl

Kubernetic

I love that you didn’t edit out the “false start” from the full version. 😂

Justin Gonyea

My mistake. I meant: "Too many musical numbers!"

Happy Hanukkah

Re your discussion about tempora et mores, how about Timothee Chalamet and Wonka? (No, I haven't seen it. I guess I don't have the heart of a 16 yo girl. :-) ) I'm not sure where you're recognizing David Morse (the dad) from. I know Cassie has seen him in The Rock, Hurt Locker, and The Green Mile. Have you seen House? (I am not betting on you having seen Disturbia. :-) )

Happy Hanukkah

OK, Carly - time to get some jingle for Nike product placement ;)

Above Average Dave

I've been waiting for this!!

John Armbruster

YES! Can’t wait to watch you and Carly react to this movie! Its got everything you both love in a movie…but I’m not dropping any spoilers.

Dan M

I really love this movie, everyone is excellent in it. Can't wait to watch your reaction!

Stranger2Reality

Too much gore? In contact?

Choof

This movie changed my life. Classic. Love space movies because of this.

Louis Chapman

[Added, since this is the first comment: WARNING: SUDDEN LOUD AUDIO AT 2:55 Might I recommend adding this warning beneath the video? Yes, it's amusing, but...] Did Not Watch. Too much gore.
