Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)

Holy cow this ended on a massive cliff hanger!! I don't know what it is about this style of animation, but it's so cool to me and my mind just can't comprehend the talent and skill it would take to put something like this together!

So we just finished our basement and we really wanted to include a home theater. We wanted to give it a reaction test run and so this is the inaugural watch and it did not disappoint! Don't worry, this will only be an every once-in-a-while thing, we'll still be filming most of the reactions from the bed :)) I will give you guys a full tour of the theater soon! Hope you enjoy!

I'm rewatching this... and it's worth noting that when Miles jumped into the portal after Gwen... he was actually abandoning his father who was about to become Captain. That means "the cake" he was supposed to bring to celebrate the occasion is even more poignant. The PiB theater is great but also a good idea to use it only once in a while. Like it would've been great for Mad Max Fury Road because that movie stays in widescreen most of the time and there are a lot of details in the film. It was filmed in cinematic way. I don't have a dedicated theater myself, I just have a big TV on wheels that I roll over to the foot of the bed! Worth it! πŸ˜„ Back to Miles... I think this movie almost fixes everything. With so many universes referenced... then it becomes "canon" that there are different versions. This means the movies "are not" the comics. This removes the criticism that the movie is not like in the comics - but now it's canon. The movies can be their own alternate version of reality, and the animated Spider-verse is also it's own thing. Oh I meant the human-arachnoid-hybrid poly-multi-verse hahaha...

All I'm going to ask for is more animated movies. If you want to start safely, Disney and Dreamworks are solid, they try to appeal to families and as many people as possible. Studio Ghibli is on the other end of the spectrum, definitely not for everyone. There are movies such as Rango, the Owls of Ga'hoole, and Pinocchio (del Toro) that are family-oriented but try to be more appealing to a young adult audience. Even if it's one animated movie a month I would love it. Thank you for your reactions.

Wow - that was intense! It's amazing how easy it is to get fully invested in what essentially is a cartoon. Your theater room looks great. Can't wait to see the tour! I wonder how big the popcorn machine will be? Thanks for sharing another great watch-along!

Ed Sharron

@Cassie - You might want to look into Rumble as well. They could at least be a backup in case of a worst case scenario, even if it's not the main full length reaction host.

Mike Lemon

It is a YouTube problem, not a Cassie problem. YouTube started putting ads in unlisted/non-monetized videos several months ago.

Mike Lemon

If you use firefox, get the "Easy Youtube Video Downloader" add-on, it works great.

Craig Russell

Hey Jacob! Sorry you are dealing with this. I have not monetized ANY of the full length reactions and I've reached out to YouTube support but they won't do anything about this. It seems to happen randomly... I'm debating just uploading directly to Patreon, but I'm not sure if that would be better or worse... Anyway, the download is available now! Sorry again about that!

Cassie

Anyone else getting constant Youtube ads on the unlisted full length reaction? Don't know if it was a mistake to monetize the full length but I've never had the issue with other reactors full length unlisted videos before. Kind of annoying to constantly have to resync but I guess I'll wait for the ability to download the reaction.

Jacob Morris

Quite enjoyed that. I took my nephew, 12, to see it and he was riveted! He was enjoying it so much that I went to get refills and more popcorn (a rarity). So, I missed the Spider Lobby part with all of the variations of Spider-Man. This movie might be up there with The Dark Knight and The Empire Strikes Back for me.

Ike

Thx! Will do Not sure why I was thinking there were two films before this one. But if it’s just one, I definitely watch it first

Robert da Spruce

Go back and watch the first one. This is 2 of what will be a trilogy.

Canadianant

So there are Easter Eggs from Venom series with Tom Hardy and the video games. Michael Morales is in the video games.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

I know we're not alone. We just need to get together to help this happen.

Powers209

I actually haven’t seen any of the SpiderVerse films. Is it OK to watch this one first? Or should I go back and watch the first two before?

Robert da Spruce

Just saw your post after typing mine. I'm all on board for Arcane!

DWeber

If you want another cartoon with some real emotional heft, you should watch "Arcane" on Netflix. It is gorgeous (if not as crazy creative as the Spider-verse) and won awards. It also stars Hailee Steinfeld (who voices Gwen). It's only one season now, nine episodes that are best watched as three three-episode parts and it's on Netflix for everyone, as they made it. People are majorly looking forward to season 2 coming out November this year.

DWeber

After watching Spider-man and with Netflix's Arcane returning with Season Two towards the end of this year. I seen a teaser this weekend(Nov 2024). Is there a chance that we could get a reaction to Arcane Season One this year? I feel it's been long enough since Arcane Season One and I want to watch it again before Season Two drops. I think it would be great to watch it with Cassie (...and Carly). I know it's Nine episodes so getting Carly to join would be asking a lot but I think they would both really enjoy this show. Plus it's got a story with two sisters... and Cassie was really into the animation for Spider-man and Arcane has some great animation. I think Cassie it going to love Arcane and its rollercoaster of emotional manipulation. I'm asking if we can get a few request votes for this show. Thank you. https://popcornrequests.com/title/tt11126994

The lady in the bodega is from the Venom movies. Ben Reilly is the emo Spider-Man who narrates all his actions. He’s from the comics and is a clone of Peter (and is voiced by Andy Samberg). He’s generally considered annoying. I’m glad you came round on Hobie. He’s my favourite in this movie. He’s making the watch he gives Gwen the whole time he’s in the Spider HQ and really looks out for Miles trying to steer him away from Miguel to do his own thing.

Jacob King

So jelly! I've wanted a proper home theater for ages but we just don't have a good space for it right now (no basements in SoCal!). Hopefully someday.

Robin T

The Dickens you say! Ha Ha! Or maybe Flash Gordon? I had to Google that one! Lol! Good one!

Mike LL

Some people tend to disagree with me but I honestly think these Mile Morales movies are better than all the live-action spiderman movies combined. Also, I'm willing to bet Prowler Miles Morales isn't a bad guy, but is more of a robin hood type. Stealing from the Sinister 6 Cartel and helping the poor.

Yaisu

Bro is picking a fight with Charles Dickens.

aarswft

How exciting, Cassie! When you started doing this, did you ever imagine you'd have a screening room? That's SO fun for you and your family! Congratulations!

Above Average Dave

Fantastic movie, and when I saw it at the theater I was annoyed by the "to be continued" ending, but looking at it now, there is nothing more comic-bookish than a cliff hanging "to be continued" ending. And since the whole art style of this movie series seems to bring the comic books to the big screen, it all makes sense. But I am not a fan of the trend of big movie franchises having cliff hanging endings in their movies, and there were at least 3 of those in 2023, so I hope that trend does not continue. You pay your money to go into a movie theater and you want your ending. Of course Star Wars did it more than 40 years ago, lol, but I do generally like endings. The art style and imagination behind this move series is phenomenal. For the Spider-Man comic book fan, and I was one decades ago, the sheer number of easter eggs in this movie is stunning. It was great seeing Cassie have a reaction in the new basement theater, but I will welcome the return to familiar bed!

Mike LL

Oh, thanks. Obviously, I commented before loading up this reaction.

WastedPo

Cassie, you’re as invested and anxious as all of us for the next film … which won’t be for a while (definitely not the planned March 2024 release date and I just double checked and there is no announced date as of now, which could mean late this year or even 2025). And what I love about the animation and you were picking up on, is that each character’s universe has its own unique art style, making each environment and character look different. The writing, art, direction - it’s all top notch and hope it won’t be too long before we find out how Gwen and the others can help Miles and save the spider-verse.

Ian Forbes

Apparently in the intro she says that she watched the first one in theaters with her kids, so all good. We'll miss that reaction though :(

Story Archer

awesome, thanks - I hadn't had a chance to watch it yet. Next to arcane, this was without a doubt the most impressive and ambitious animated feature we've seen in years.

Story Archer

She says during the intro that she saw it with her kids in the theater, so, no, there is not a reaction video for that one.

On your Miles question at the end. The rendition we see in this film is very differant to his comic counterpart in terms of his origin and connection to the Spider-Verse. Miles was introduced in Ultimate Fallout #4 (August, 2011) and existed within Marvel's Ultimate continuity, Earth-1610 introduced as a re-imagined and modernized universe starting with Ultimate Spider-Man in 2000, followed by Ultimate Fantastic Four, Ultimate X-Men, and then The Ultimates, The Avengers of this universe. This was a whole new universe to make it easy for new fans to get into Marvel while allowing Marvel to showcase younger versions of there characters again to make it more relatable for teenagers. Miles was bitten by a spider genetically enhanced with the Oz Formula. The Oz Formula was Oscorp trying to re-create the Super Solider Serum that created Captain America, Peter himself was bitten by an Oz spider as well. Miles discovered that he had superhuman abilities including camouflage, increased agility and a stun blast. Months later, Spider-Man, Peter Parker died saving his family from Osborn who decided to attack Aunt May's house alongside a bunch of other villains, Peter just turned 16 as well. Miles then took up the mantle of Spider-Man and sometime later met the older Mainline Spider-Man of Earth-616 when he was transported to the Ultimate Universe. Miles would later take part in the Spider-Verse comics but a good while after he became Spider-Man. Then in 2015's Secret War the Ultimate Universe was destroyed with Miles and his family being re-written into Earth-616 the Mainline Marvel universe like nothing happened. As of 2015 Miles is active as Spider-Man alongside the Older Mainline Spider-Man who we know and love.

LittleGalaxyBoy

Yes, I have the same question as Archer. I just assumed Cassie would be watching "Into the Spider-Verse" this week, as I couldn't remember ever seeing it on the channel before. Did we all honestly just let her watch the second movie before the first one?

WastedPo

Wait, I haven't seen it anywhere - did she watch Into the Spiderverse first??

Story Archer

Can’t wait till Beyond the Spider-Verse…and your theater looks pretty cool πŸ˜€

JL_83

Congrats on finishing the basement Cassie. I do love this style of animation. This was actually the first time I have seen this so it will be fun to watch with you. I hope you have a great week. As the Christmas season comes to an end. Godspeed Cassie
