Comments

This movie brings out your worst fears as a parent for your child. It was very emotional try to find a calmer movie for the future viewing.

Jeff Medley

As good as a movie reaction can get! Extraordinary!

Terry Yelmene

it's actually guarding tess great movie with so very memorable scenes

mafish2374

Oh, poor mama Cassie. I can only imagine, as I'm not a mom but I'd like to be. Seeing you cry hurt my heart.

Esther Boogie

Great movie. Entertaining to watch with you! Another great film in this genre, but with a little more light-heartedness: REGARDING TESS (with Nicholas Cage) Highly recommend.

Also if you haven't done a reaction (I don't think you have)... the new-ish Star Trek's... one and two... with Chris Pine as Kirk. They are AMAZING. J.J Abrams directs them.

Kit Taylor

One of my all time favorites, so glad you watched this! Great movie choices. You seem like you are more receptive to suggestions than other channels... I'm a cryer. Movies that make me ball are keepers, and you've hit a lot of them. I would add "Man On Fire", "Remember the Titans", "A Man Called Otto", "Annihilation" (my all-time favorite movie), "The Accountant" (second favorite), all of the Equalizer movies, "Titanic", "No Way Out"... and on and on... thanks for the hard work!

Kit Taylor

I’ve never been so worried about you. At the half hour mark I was genuinely worried you might have a heart attack. Might I suggest something happy and relaxing for your next reaction? Maybe some Wes Anderson film or… the Before trilogy?

Christoph Wolf

More Carly! Hells yeah! She’s so cool! Disclaimer: My compliment to Carly’s personality is in no way an admission of attraction or perceived connection. I am merely stating a fact that the woman is cool, and I love enjoying her personality. Lol. Okay, I’ll stop the disclaimers, I just like taunting overly-sensitive people. Am I amusing myself? Yes! Do I care if it annoys you? No! Anyway, love the Popcorn Crew! Great work! Great production! I’ll come up with some new jokes, can’t promise they’ll be good, but I’ll enjoy them. Happy New Year! :)

Great reaction! I love Mel Gibson films. Highly recommend his film 𝐀𝐩𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐩𝐭𝐨 - the cinematography is stunning and the movie is gripping and intense and an edge of your seat experience. I haven’t seen many Lili Taylor films but I always loved her in 𝐃𝐨𝐠𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 with River Phoenix. They are one of my favorite on screen couples.

For a real life example (from Snopes fact check)- When they saw Freeland raise his right hand clutching a gun (one they would later learn belonged to the dead deputy), nine of the ten officers fired, hitting him with 68 of 110 shots. Freeland was dead at the scene. Afterwards, when called upon by the media to make a statement about the manhunt and its outcome, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd explained: "You have to understand, he had already shot and killed a deputy, he had already shot and killed a K-9, and he shot and injured another deputy. Quite frankly, we weren't taking any chances." Sheriff Judd was variously reported as adding, "That's all the bullets we had or we would have shot him more" and "I suspect the only reason 110 rounds was all that was fired was that's all the ammunition they had."

Mike Lemon

I came here to recommend Conspiracy Theory, with Gibson and Julia Roberts! One of my favourite movies that I feel is underrated.

Jason Jardine

I think Thomas was considered too young to join the army (even though the movie made it clear he wanted to fight). If he was too young, it's probably because they considered him a child. Thomas also isn't the only child character killed in that movie. There was at least one other child younger than Thomas that was killed (off screen). The red head kid (I know it's wasn't Mel Gibson's kid, but still). edit: Also, the church scene.

Mario

I would say 14 or 15 is borderline but good point. I forgot about Thomas and was only thinking of Gabriel.

Just Plain Bob

Isn’t Tomas 14 or 15 when he is shot at the first encounter with Tavington? Whats your definition of child? Otherwise I agree with you.

Björn Von Knorring

😂 A child! That’s good. Really good. Calling a full grown man a child. By that definition every death in every movie is the death of a child, since everyone is someone’s child. I think it was pretty clear we were talking about actual children, as in kids. But nice try.

Just Plain Bob

"in what film does a Mel Gibson character seek revenge for the death of his child?" The Patriot.

Mario

I forgot how awesome and what a ride this movie is. I saw it in theaters and it cemented Mel Gibsons reputation of a "rip your heart at while you're on the roller coaster" movie maker. Your reactions are EXACTLY what he was going for and I SINCERELY hope he sees your reaction. I'm sure he'd be over the moon. Love this!! Sorry you almost hyperventilated. Lol

Brent Fugett

Good point, well made. I would further say that one problem with movies is that they usually portray shooters as infallible marksmen, able to hit any spot on the human body at a moment’s notice. In reality, everyone I’ve ever spoken to that knew firearms agreed: you shoot at center mass, none of this “shoot ‘em in the arm or leg” nonsense. To try to do so will most likely result in missing altogether.

Just Plain Bob

I don’t say it in retrospect. I watched the movie in the theater. At no time did I believe they were going to kill the kid. As I said, it was a big budget Hollywood film. Yes, there are revenge films predicated on the murder of children. But, where big budget Hollywood films are concerned, those murders almost always happen off screen and before the start of the film. At any rate, my critique wasn’t aimed at this particular film, but at the entire genre. I also acknowledge that it’s MY reaction to this genre. Others may experience suspense from the genre and, if so, good for them. PS: Just curious, in what film does a Mel Gibson character seek revenge for the death of his child? That is, a death that occurs DURING the movie. I don’t recall any. PPS: I did think of one exception. Prisoners. But that film was much darker, with an almost nihilistic tone. As a result, I believed that the kids might be killed at any moment.

Just Plain Bob

Well, it's easy to say that in retrospect. There is no rule, written or unwritten, that prevents the boy from being killed in the story. Plenty of revenge movies (several Mel Gibson ones!) which turn into getting revenge for death of a child. For me "they were never gonna kill the kid" doesn't stack up as a criticism. I certainly felt jeopardy when I first watched it years ago.

Dazman

Yeah, one more vote for the theatrical. I enjoy its more playful and entertaining tone. Knowing Cassie, I have no doubt she would prefer the TC as well.

Gábor Árki

I'd forgotten how good this movie was! Great reaction too! I also just noticed how much Carly looks like Violet Bick! Now watch Mel Gibson in Edge of Darkness, or Conspiracy Theory!

Roger Hagerty

I agree the theatrical cut of "Payback" is better

Johnny Salinas

You guys should give "Forever Young" a try for your next Mel Gibson movie. It's a romantic comedy and not as intense 😊

Johnny Salinas

Wow! I was really worried Cassie was going to hyperventilate watching this. Total rollercoaster of a film but it was clear they both enjoyed it. Regardless of if you like this film or not. This is what a good film is meant to do. Entertain yes but also make you connect with it and put you through it a little bit.

Don

(In regards to the Donnie Wahlberg character being killed) iirc, when a suspect fires their weapon, they mark themselves as hostile. Law Enforcement are trained to return fire in those situations (lethal or otherwise). That's why they shot and killed him.

Mario

Donnie Wahlberg! Don’t you know the old boy band New Kids on the Block? (& Mark’s brother)

Morgan A. Colbert

I love Payback. It’s also one of those rare occasions in which I prefer the theatrical version to the director’s cut. It’s based on the Richard Stark novel The Hunter, which introduced his character Parker (changed to Porter for the movie). It’s a great series of crime/heist novels and Payback was a great movie. I think Cassie would like it.

Just Plain Bob

You should keep the Mel Gibson train going with an underrated movie of his called Payback, which also has one of Lucy Liu's best roles imo.

Jasbro

I actually tend to agree about the safety of the kid (there's just no way they're killing him). That's why this is, for me, really a movie about a father doing the absolutely crazy and ballsy thing that he has to do to get his son back. I find that the story really kicks into high gear halfway through when he goes on television and tells the kidnappers "you are not getting this money and I will hunt you down if anything happens to my son." Then it really becomes fun to watch. Gibson's decision (and his character in general) is what makes this movie great for me. The kidnapping stuff is competently, if not exceptionally, done (like most of Ron Howard's movies), but that high stakes game of chicken element to the story is what makes this unique, memorable and exciting.

Stick Figure Studios

I have the exact opposite reaction to child-in-jeopardy films to Cassie: utter boredom. It’s a big budget film with bankable stars and a highly regarded director. There’s no way they kill the kid. To me, that takes all the suspense out of it and reduces it to an exercise in histrionics. I’ll certainly agree that this movie does it far better than most but, ultimately it suffers from the same problem as a prequel movie. The outcome is predetermined, robbing the film of any real tension.

Just Plain Bob

Probably just me but the RANSOM title with the man running with the bags reminded me so much of intro credits and poster for The Running Man (1987)

LittleGalaxyBoy

Can't wait for this. I love me some Ransom.
