Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) - Full Reaction

I think I officially like Star Trek people! Although... there are parts of this movie I do not accept! I feel like the character development is so good for me, and I really haven't even seen that much but I feel like I know them! I'm having a lot of fun. Hope you enjoy!

It's been a hot minute, but I circle around to this film every few years. It was the perfect - accident? of a (relatively, compared to all of the others) low budget that forced creativity and character moments as they didn't have the budget for anything else, and a director who quickly figured out how to get the best performances imaginable out of his cast. Particularly Shatner, who's never been better as Kirk. He never, ever steps wrong in the final cut of this film. In 1982, the Best Actor nominees for the Oscar were an absolute murderer's row of Warren Beatty, Dudley Moore, freaking Paul Newman, freaking Henry Fonda, and absolutely freaking Burt Lancaster. And it could easily be argued that at LEAST 3/5 of that list was the Academy members' collective apology for skipping a few iconic roles. But in almost any other year, Shatner should have at least made the final cut for his work here. He's that good.
Also...it's been 38 years, and I start crying every time Kirk shoots down the ladder in Engineering and the James Horner music swells. I mean, it's not exactly a spoiler - I know how this plot point ends - but it still gets me every time. It's possibly the best Kirk/Spock moment in the entire history of Trek. I just can't NOT tear up.

I don't think there's anyone who "gets" Star Trek who doesn't cry every time Spock dies. And James Horner's music is so perfect for the scene, both leading to and from it. That pit-of-the-stomach feeling when Kirk looks across at Spock's empty chair on the bridge...

Now...she didn't say better than Star Wars, she said better at character details (paraphrasing). Many of us love both for different reasons. For myself, I have always identified more with the characters of Trek and, as Cassie said, "I feel like I know them" on a personal level. With Star Wars, it's always been appreciation and enjoyment as an observer.

"There, I said it" Couldn't agree more. As much as I have enjoyed Star Wars over the years, I have always identified with and appreciated the characters of Star Trek more. I've never shed a tear over SW but Trek has elicited them many times.
Concerning this film, I love Ricardo Montalban's portrayal of Khan. Everything you'd want in an obsessively crazed arch villain, and he is so adept at allowing his emotions and inner dialog to wash over his face. Not many people could have pulled that off without it devolving into a complete velveta cheesy mess, but Monalban takes it about as far as anyone could take it and manages to kepp it worthy of a delicious fine cheese board . The end of that final vapid soliloquy "With my last breath I SPIT at thee!" is brilliant🎉🥳🎉👏👏👏
That is quickly overshadowed by the self sacrifice of Spock, the reiteration of "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or one" but most importantly "I have been and always shall be your friend" it's a genius bit that encapsulates the entire body of Star Trek into that one moment. It was a similar experience when Leonard Nimoy retired from public life in a speech at his final Star Trek convention appearance, culminating in the familiar Vulcan hand gesture while wishing us all "Live long and prosper". For me, it was that same moment he had with Kirk. I have been and always shall be thankful to Nimoy for his contribution in developing and bringing the character of Spok to life, for giving so much of himself as an actor and for his respect and appreciation for the fans.
I know Cassie has a busy and full schedule of movie viewing but this would be the perfect time to revisit Galaxy Quest because the underlying, heroic subtext would be much more clear and meaningful.

The screenplay for this movie is so good. I was 13 when I saw this in the theater, so I only payed attention to the action. But now I can appreciate how they used the Genesis device at the heart of the story to highlight the theme of death and rebirth which, mirrors the arc of Kirk's character in this movie. At the beginning he is an Admiral, feeling past his prime, no longer commanding a starship. By then end he feels young again (rebirth), having defeated Khan and gaining a son. Also the literary tie-ins were so well done, with Spock taking the role of Carton from Dicken's "Tale of Two Cities," which is the book he gives Kirk for his birthday. Spock then sacrifices his own life, as Carton did, for the "needs of the many." Kirk reminds us of this at the end by reciting Carton, "It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done."

Midshipman First Class Peter Preston was Scotty's nephew (his sister's youngest son), which is why he carried him up to the bridge and why he was crying for him in sickbay. The explanation was cut in the theatrical version, but reinserted for the director's cut.

True story: Gene Rodenberry got all his ideas for Star Trek was from a person that could channel alien leaders and he was hired to take down the mins of the session. This was in the 40's or 50's i cant rem but he said that almost all of the stuff he heard was ao incredible he had to make a story out of it. So he made Star Trek

When you’re a kid, the Spock stuff hits.
When you’re an adult, the Spock stuff really hits.
And when you’re almost 50, the Spock stuff hits just as much as always but a little differently…and then the Kirk/David scene just lays you low.
One of the best Cassie reactions ever. It’s wonderful to see her enjoying these characters to this degree.

Thank you for this. I'm a casual Trek fan, but rewatching the original series shows and movies with you and Jen Murray has been amazing for more than the usual reason. It reminded me of something I'd forgotten.
My late mother, not usually into sci-fi, really liked Star Trek (original crew). It brought back memories of her explaining the premise when I was very young and later when the movies came out watching them with her.
The experience has been priceless and I'm unable to do it justice with words. Thank you.

You think Cassie would like Time After Time? Directed by Nicholas Meyers. You've also got a connection to Star Trek VI and Generations. I wonder if PIB community thinks she'd like it, if she should watch it before Star Trek 6 or Generations. Though I am less hopeful she'll want to watch episodes of Next Generation let alone any of their movies. Though I certainly feel she'd enjoy First Contact.

2024-01-01 08:41:11 +0000 UTC
Of course, I know that, but I did not write that, because of the implication of spoiling, and of course Cassie doesn't know that or the significance of what that will mean moving forward. Those who think I spoiled anything are mistaken, they are inferring and implying what was not done, because they are assuming their wealth of Star Trek knowledge is something that Cassie already possess, and that is not true. Cassie is not yet aware of most of the Star Trek universe which took place after the Undiscovered Country. It would be fun later in the year if she decides to watch some Next Generation and Voyager episodes starting with 7 of 9. Concentrating on primarily Borg episodes would give her glimpse into a Star Trek she will not experience with any of the first 6 films or any of the Chris Pine movies.

She liked the first AUSTIN POWERS. As far as I know, she intends to watch the sequels. She just hasn't gotten around to it yet. I think you underestimate how enjoyable Star Trek 5 can be for someone like Cassie. Even if it turns out to be her least favorite of the franchise (like Rocky 5 was), it's not going to stop her from going on to 6, especially given how highly praised 6 is by everybody here.

Well first of all I'm in favor of watching all of them. To me reactions aren't about just getting someone to like the stuff I like, but getting honest responses from a different perspective, warts and all.
But I have to say character is precisely my problem with V. The story, at least the broad outlines of it, is quite good, and perfect subject matter for the series. And, some rushed VFX near the end notwithstanding, it looks just fantastic thanks to all the extra cash from IV's success. Where it misses is the little stuff. Awkward, "Lucasian" dialogue. Stiff direction from Shatner. And the cast suffers the most from all that stuff. They are bizarrely out-of-character sometimes. They aren't shot in flattering ways, their performances aren't paced in flattering ways. Motivations become outright nonsensical at times. And I think that explains the vitriol - it's not that it's especially bad overall, but the specific ways that it's bad sometimes feel disrespectful to the characters we love, and so people take its badness personally.

Glad you mentioned the language comment. The most important person involved with Star Trek's languages is Marc Okrand. He created the Klingon language starting with STIII and also wrote the Vulcan dialogue in this movie (which btw was dubbed over a scene originally spoken in English - if you watch their lips carefully they're just saying exactly what the subtitles say!).
There is a FASCINATING must-watch video of Okrand discussing his involvement which I first saw as a DVD bonus feature and is now available on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/e5Did-eVQDc?si=rkQQtKQYXkHga0vf

With 178 episodes it would require 89 reaction slots. That would take more than 1,5 years if a third of the PiB schedule is sacrificed for it. I'm fine with avoiding such long series as well and rather have good variety on movies instead.

In the original series, all crew were always addressed as "Mister"; male or female makes no difference. The only exception I can think of is one instance where Spock said, "Vulcan has no moon, Miss Uhura." That was also kind of an informal conversation, even though it was on the bridge.

I am right there with you. I loved the original Star Wars trilogy, but Star Trek will always come first in my heart. Captain Kirk, Spock and Bones are just more interesting characters than Luke, Leia and Han. And, on the whole, the stories told in the original tv series and first six films are just better and far more thought provoking.

I don't think we'll ever get more than a few TNG episodes and then the movies. I'm personally fine with that considering her schedule. And while I agree that the series is amazing and of course makes the movies a richer experience, you can still truly enjoy the TNG movies without having to watch a large amount of the series. In fact you'll find many reactors who have done just that. I for one would rather have some TNG than none.

Yeah no for TNG we're going to need at LEAST 8-12 episodes hehe. For one thing there's more of it and more that ties into the movies. For another, as someone else pointed out here (can't remember who), for TNG the series is really the important part and the movies are more of a bonus feature. I think for the original cast the show and movies are very different things, and a few episodes of the show as a primer are fine, but the films basically stand on their own. But for TNG the show is the main dish and if she wants to follow that with a couple movies for dessert that's fine too ;)

I just wish Shatner had been given more budget and time to bring his vision to full fruition, that way all Trek fans could agree without argument that Star Trek Nemesis is hands down the worst Trek movie ever.

So happy you watched this, the strength of this movie is it has so many themes, revenge, loss, service, sacrifice, father/son, and more, but it weaves them together so well, we should be happy to get two, maybe three in a movie. The use of "Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens "The needs of the many..." and "Far better resting place" and Khans Shakespeare quotes are amazing. I saw this in theater when it came out, cried then, still cry every time. Just a note, The young man in engineering the stayed at his post was Scotty's nephew, the director cut shows that, and I think it not being in the cinema cut was the only thing wrong with this movie. Wrath got Star Trek so right, adventure and making you think, once again we usually are happy to get one of those, but this gave us what so many of the TV episodes did, adventure and depth. So happy you liked it, great reaction, and i'm counting the days till you do Star Trek 3.

Just because I said in bold lettering that William Shatner is Voldemort's illegitimate sister, that does not mean I've spoiled anything, and by continuing to be dishonest about what I posted, you three will be forced to go on vacation with Amber Turd. Oh, by the way, about 30 years ago I had a pitch meeting with Nicholas Meyers, needless to say that meeting was a short 5 minutes and he passed on my idea. Suggesting I should talk to Berman and the rest of the creative Next Generation team...that meeting never took place. I've written a few screenplays, not sold any, and currently putting the finishing touches on my 115,000-word science fiction Novel...But I am sure most of you are not interested in that. So, let's agree, that I am write/right and you're wrong...because we all know I am never wrong and you who disagree with me neither have a sense of humor, nor are ever right. Remember this subject matter we are all reacting too and reading, is incredibly serious. It truly is a matter of life and death. Don't forget I don't have a sense of humor; I am always serious about everything I post. The moon is made out of cheese. Hogwarts is real. And LeBron James has very little longevity in the NBA.

The two that Nick Meyer did were hands down the best. I personally think I'd edge out 6 (it was the first one I saw in theaters), because of how big it was, related to it being an allegory for the fall of the Soviet Union. (The movie has a lot more to say to us in that respect), but 2 and 6 are both so good that its quibbling over small things to say one is better than the other.

I said what I said” That ‘s a bold declaration, Cassie. Going to ruffle a few feathers on You Tube if not in the Patreon comments. Kudos for going there.
I am sure it has been mentioned, Saavik is played by Kirstie Alley from Cheers and Look who’s talking. So many people from this movie have now passed on, James Horner ( music), Kirstie Alley, Ricardo montalban, de Forrest Kelly, Michelle Nichols, the guy who played David, Merrit Butrick. Died at 29 too.
Ricardo Montalban, you may remember played the bad guy from The Naked Gun, although you may have tried to forget that movie.

I also think she would enjoy the 5th. The story and execution are lacking, but there are some good character moments. I think for Cassie that would be enough to have a good time with the movie, just like she did with Rocky 5. But I won't fall into my sword if it is skipped.
For TNG I think 6 episodes would be better suited for a decent sampling. THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS is one of the best and kind of an important one due to First Contact and would take up 2 slots already.

I loved the reaction as usual! I do hope you continue with the movies and into The Next Generation movies. You will need to watch probably 4 episodes of the TNG series before you watch the movies just like before. The 5th movie is the weakest and isn't essential to the others, so you can skip that one if you want to. I would definitely recommend the 6th movie which is the last for the original cast before The Next Generation movies begin. I do hope you can squeeze these in. Even if we have to take breaks in between. It's a very large franchise that will actually be celebrating It's 60th anniversary in 2026!

For those die-hard Trekkies (Trekkers), you might have noticed that Mr. Sulu seems to get cut off while he's talking to Captain Kirk about going aboard the Enterprise during their shuttle ride to the ship. It's rather abrupt, and you can just tell there was more to it. Yay!!!!! My favorite of the Trek films!!! And Cassie you're playing on my Christmas present; an iPad Pro. So real I found myself answering you. 🤣
Roddenberry. Yep, and they developed the Klingon language as well.
And your reaction to Ricardo Montelbàn's physique. Yes we reacted the same in the theaters and yes that's all Ricardo. Very much physically fit. 😉
And the ending.... We had the same reaction to that too. I still don't think I'm fully healed from that. Especially watching your reaction.
Thanks as always Cassie for doing these! Happy New Year!!!

Oh, she's definitely gonna watch the Abrams movies. Star Trek has always been about the relational dynamics between the characters no matter what ST series you’re watching. It’s because we connect and relate to these characters and their relationships that have kept this franchise going for 50+ years. Sure the sci-fi part is fun but that’s the canvas on which the characters and their relationships are developed on. I’m glad you enjoyed it Cassie; ST2 is a classic sci-fi movie and is the quintessential movie of all the Star Trek features.

@thansen: That's absurd. You can like something and still not be so obsessed with it that you feel the need to consume everything that's connected to it (I love STAR TREK and I still haven't seen every episode of TOS or of TNG). She watched four episodes of TOS (it was originally to be three but she added a fourth *because* she enjoyed it) before doing the movies. To do every episode of TOS would just be too time-consuming considering she has OTHER things she wants to watch as well as having a life and family that deserves her attention. As a huge Bond fan, I could've said "if she really liked Bond, she'd watch ALL of the Connery films," but I didn't because who are we to decide who is/isn't the "real fans?" We don't need that kind of gatekeeping here in this community.

First, you just rearranged the evens and the odds, but my point remains the same -- the even numbered movies are better. Second, most people here seem to think Cassie's going to like 4 the best which seems to line up more with my rankings. Either way, 3 is typically seen as the fourth best movie of the six.

Star Trek is often at its best when drawing upon impactful literary references to enrich a story. Here the tale of revenge and obsession is enhanced with direct quotes from Moby Dick:
“To the last I grapple with thee; from Hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake, I spit my last breath at thee,” And the paraphrased speech from Kahn mirroring Ahab’s obsession with the white whale (They kept “Perdition’s flames”): “I'll chase him round the moons of Nibia and round the Antares maelstrom and round perdition's flames before I give him up!”
But the most endearing references are of course to Charles Dickens classic “A Tale Of Two Cities”, a book which Spock gifts to Kirk on his birthday. It frames their story perfectly, opening with the first line of that novel:
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times” And ends with the final speech from the novel: “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known”
Of course, Cassie’s reaction was amazing and exceeded any great expectations 😊

For the original series the studio was so concerned about DeForest Kelly's association and recognizability as a veteran TV western villain they decided to solve the problem by giving him a new haircut.
So, to make him seem more like a "Good Guy" they gave him a haircut like the then recently martyred President Kennedy.

I've never thought 5 was as bad as everyone else said it was and definitely not deserving of vitriol. I mean, it's not good (and certainly the worst of the original movies), but this cast has such wonderful chemistry that they are always worth watching and I'd still rather wstch the worst Trek movie with this crew than the best Trek movie with the TNG crew. Like with the STAR WARS prequels and sequels, Cassie deserves to see it for herself and make up her own mind. I predict it'll be her least favorite Trek film, but she'll still enjoy it.

I just thought I'd point out, when nerds get together and talk about how best to handle the death of an iconic character, the death of Spock is often cited as the best way to handle it and the best handled death of any iconic character in film history.

This was a wonderful reaction. I think it really shows how watching some episodes and the first movie and getting familiar with the characters enhanced Cassie's experience. She might have been surprised to find herself so emotional during a Star Trek movie, and probably wouldn't have believed if someone had told her that a few weeks ago. I hope Cassie remained strong and didn't read up on the remaining movies. Also, a suggestion: maybe putting out this reaction to YouTube should be postponed until watching the third movie in order to avoid potential spoilers during the live chat. Some may have said too much in the comments here already.
Cassie, regarding the 🖖 symbol, I think the trick is to open your thumb wide when you spread your hand, and then bend only your middle and ring fingers to form the gap. At the same time, relax or slightly push back your index and little fingers to keep them close together.
To answer some of the questions, although Gene Roddenberry was the creator and visionary of the original series, but he did not write everything in detail like Tolkien did. Many other writers added to the lore and shaped the universe in a lot of ways. The alien languages were quite rudimentary at the begging and changed and evolved over time. For example, Klingon became so complex over the decades that you can learn to speak and write it today. You can easily find online translators and dictionaries for it.
As for addressing Alley's character "Mr. Saavik", it may seem odd to modern viewers. The reason for this choice was that the filmmakers were simply not sure how to properly address female officers because that wasn't a thing in the 80s. They thought that using Mr. would imply equality and respect. In later iterations of Star Trek films and shows female officers were addressed as Ms., ma'am, or simply by their rank.

Cassie said she did not accept it. Well, neither did the fans! You could not imagine the outpouring of outrage when this first came out. Fortunately, Leonard Nimoy who had taken the job on the condition that they would kill him off, changed his mind about continuing with the role of Spock. He also finagled two directoral jobs on the series. Cassie was very smart to pick up on the 'remember' bit. She will definitely see how this plays out in the next film.

I don't know what this strange 1h 56m version is I've found on a download site but I can only assume it's an old NSTC version that's been uploaded by someone and it is running at a slightly different speed from how modern uploads do nowdays.

It's wonderful to watch how strongly Cassie cared about Kirk and Spock after only a handful of episodes and 2 movies. This is why Wrath of Khan is universally considered the best Star Trek film. It was certainly a bold decision to make for a sci-fi franchise that hadn't killed off any of the main characters, and most of all for fan favourite: Spock.
I agree with Cassie that Star Trek's characters are better developed compared to Star Wars and most other sci-fi. I suppose that's to be expected from a TV series adapted to movies, whereas Star Wars is a movie saga only recently adapted to the small screen. Fans grow more familiar and more attached to Star Trek's characters, and therefore care more.

Another great reaction. Always nice to see how insightful Cassie is. Looking fwd to watching ST 3, 4, & 6 and the new ones with Chris Pine (Since I had grown up with the original cast - it took a little getting used to the new crew). ST has a much larger show base with all the spin offs - you could get lost in watching them all.
While ST3 isn't one of my favorites - it is definitely necessary to be watched if you plan on continuing with the whole series. Its not bad though and definitely has its moments.
Ironically, before he became Dr "Bones" McCoy, DeForest Kelly, he played in a LOT of older western shows, snd was a prolific actor starting his career dating back to 1945. For many of the actors in the original ST, that defined their careers.
I started watching it with the directors cut and had to switch over to theatrical version.

If you'd like to watch some of the Next Generation movies, you'll need to watch some of the episodes, especially dealing with the Borg. First Contact was a very good movie, the others not so much. Next Generation was the one your dad used to watch. It was on TV from 1987-1994. And if that is your future plan, I would also suggest you watch some Voyager episodes, because they devel into the development of the Borg, with a new character called 7 of 9. I know that doesn't make much sense, but it would become so by watching those episodes. At some future time, I am sure many PIB Patrons will be able to suggest which Next Generation and which Voyager episodes will help you to best appreciate the First Contact movie.

There are three rebooted Star Treks with Chris Pine...the first is a new origin story and #2 deals with a different kind of Khan.

Not sure what your plans are regarding the rest of the star trek movies. #3 will give you answers, and #4 will give you answers based on #3. #5 is considered the worst of the six, and it was directed by Shatner. #6 is interesting in the real time geopolitical realities of 1991...the Sovie Union finally collapsed. #3 will also have another actress playing Savik...Crystie Ally will be given the boot. And you've seen back to the future. Doc Brown is in Star Trek #3...I am referring to Christopher Lloyd. He plays the Klingon villain. Though Khan is seen as the worst or best Star Trek villain.

Heh, Cassie is going to lose it when she sees the title for Star Trek 3.
Also: I hope Cassie watches up through Star Trek 6, as that one is my personal favorite (yes, even more than ST2!!).

Well, two months ago Shatner was 92...he will be 93 in March of 2024. He's always had amazing energy. Too bad Nimoy was a smoker.

I believe most people would rate them pretty close to: 4, 6, 2, 3, 1, 5. It's fairly well established that the even numbered movies are the better ones. So if you want to say 3 is the best of the odds, then ok.

Mr. Saavik is played by Kirstie Alley, famous for her role as Rebecca Howe on the tv series 'Cheers', and as John Travolta's co-star in the 'Look Who's Talking' movies.

I wish she had done a few more, but I'm so grateful she did the ones she did do. To me it would have been so perfect if Journey to Babel, The Doomsday Machine, and of course Mirror, Mirror would have also made the cut.

Interesting thing about the Chekov character, he wasn't in the first season of the original 'Star Trek', he also wasn't in the 'Space Seed' episode, so how could they remember each other?

They published some prequel novels about young Khan and the Eugenics Wars and in one there's a scene where Khan has a hidden island fortress and he greets his captives wearing an immaculate white suit and welcomes them to his island.

James Horner did the score for this movie. He also did Titanic, Aliens, Field of Dreams, Apollo 13, Braveheart, Avatar, A Beautiful Mind among many others. The music in this movie was fantastic!

Cassie, I know it's a long shot but maybe squeeze in the episode Journey to Babel S2 E10 before the next movie. Not saying do a reaction video, but perhaps just a simple viewing on your own. It introduces two key characters that return in the next 2 movies played by same actors. It is the best episode of detailing Spock's youth growing up and his relationship with his parents. Such a great character development episode for Spock and a tremendous episode all around. It's not an essential viewing, but definitely gives insight behind who Spock was.

It’s been so long since I’ve watched this movie. I am surprised at how well the writing has held up. Much better than some of the costume designs. (Cassie laughing at the superior intellect’s fashion sense was painful, but it does explain why I have never seen a Trekkie dressed up like Khan.)

Yeah, I was heading to bed but had to stop and watch this movie again. Just to watch the movie with Cassie and to hit the posts.
Has anyone warned Cassie that only Even Star Trek movies are good? I'm willing to watch Trek:3 to get ready for Trek 4: The Voyage Home but I don't know if I can swing Trek:5 again... but I'm really looking forward to watching Trek:6 The Undiscovered Country. I have it tied to Wrath of Khan as my favorite movies.

So I just saw this two months ago in a theater, followed by a Q&A with William Shatner! It was so cool! Shatner definitely thought he was a stand up comedian, because he had whole stories that had nothing to do with the movie, lol. He pranced around the stage like a comedian. But it was still a treat. At 90 years old, he looked and sounded like he was 50! He talked about going up in the BEZOS rocket, and what he described was amazing. He talked about how SPACE was so blank and void, it made him so much more amazing EARTH is. Quite the experience.

I love ST3… I’ve always been baffled by the hate out gets. For my money, The Undiscovered Country is actually the one Star Trek movie I don’t think has aged well at all. I find it highly overrated now. It’s good, but I don’t think it’s as good as 2-3-4.

Although the third movie isn’t my favorite, I agree that it gets undue criticism. I like it quite a bit, although I thought Christopher Lloyd was miscast (I can’t help but see Reverend Jim of the tv show Taxi every time he’s on screen).

Like most fans, this is my favorite of the Star Trek movies. I saw it in the theater when I was twelve and cried like a baby when Spock died. I grew up watching reruns of Star Trek and treasure every episode. To my twelve year old self, Spock was a friend I’d grown up with. Later, I found out that Leonard Nimoy had grown tired of being typecast and only agreed to reprise his role in this movie if the Spock character could be killed off. The sequence at the beginning of the movie, the Kobayashi Maru exercise, was (at least in part) included in the movie because the filmmakers knew that news of Spock’s death was bound to leak. They figured that, by faking his death early in the film, audiences would believe this was the death they’d heard about, making his eventual demise much more impactful.

Hopefully she puts ST3 at the top of her queue now.
Also, I'll be the odd duck and state that ST3 is my personal favorite of the original 6 films. Some people slag on it but I don't care, I think it's marvelous and features the absolute best James Horner score of all of them. I think Cassie will adore it.

Yeah a lot of people thought that Ricardo Montalban was wearing a fake chest piece but that was totally real, he stayed really fit into his later years. And you couldn't even tell under that white suit he wore as Mr. Rork on Fantasy Island haha. He's so over the top as a villain, love it, and who else could match Shatner for being juuust a bit overly dramatic?

Leonard Nimoy was actually not going to do this until Nicholas Meyer promised him a death scene. He came back specifically so he could be killed off.
Then he enjoyed being back with his old crew so much that he wanted to do more. This led to him directing the next two movies.

*edit* this is the theatrical cut y’all. Also LET’S GOOOOOO!
There will come a point in this franchise if you continue where it swaps to another cast for a show called Star Trek: The Next Generation. I hope you continue with bits of that. The film Star Trek First Contact is INCREDIBLE and I’d love to see you watch it.

You really kinda have started a journey here thats hard to stop. Search for Spock, or at the very least, The Voyage Home are a must watch. IDK what you are thinking overall for Star Trek, but Undiscovered Country looking past Search for Spock and Voyage Home is also very, very much worth a watch. Though they all are in their own way.
Further continuing on, Star Trek The Next Generation and its movies and the TV Show are also very well considered and highly popular and highly recommended. I personally, and many others, put The Next Generation, particularly that show and that crew, ahead of The Original Series. Glad you are enjoying it so far and I'm gonna enjoy whatever you decide to give us from Star Trek. Either way, whatever you decide not to bring to Patreon or Youtube, I can't recommend enough for you to check all of Star Trek out in your own personal time at least. Deep Space Nine, also, if you get into The Next Generation, is another massive and huge recommendation, though that's just the TV show, no accompanying movies like The Original Series or The Next Generation.
