Martial Arts Poll

Ok, here we go! Like I said in the update post, this genre is one I know nothing about, although I did love Shanghai Noon growing up! I got all of these from your suggestions and comments and apologize if I Ieft out one you were hoping for!

A lot of Dragons! I'm excited!

Vote away!

Comments

IP Man is actually based on a true story. Well worth watching, about so much more than martial arts.

The Watcher

IP Man series is OUTSTANDING! great plot and action.

Peter Trinh

When are you doing Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon?

Kevin Carroll

Definitely check out a bunch of Jackie Chan movies! Jackie Chan was such a big part of my childhood lol to name a few: Legend of Drunken Master (1994), Rumble in the Bronx, Supercop, Mr. Nice Guy, First Strike, The tuxedo, The medallion, definitely the Rush Hour movies, and The forbidden kingdom (2008).

Gilbert Gonzalez

LOL

Richard Maurer

Even if Crouching Tiger wins, Enter the Dragon is a must watch in the Martial Arts category. Bruce Lee is, essentially, the reason for the genre.

JackTupp

It’s a shame The Last Dragon did so poorly in votes. 😔😔😔

Joe M

Agreed

Joe M

warrior is a fantastic movie, and i think that you and Carlie would love it as it has a great family drama as well as really good mma action.

graham scott

You need to add more Jackie Chan movies to your list! You will love him. A sweet and funny guy and he combines martial arts and every day objects in very creative ways. I highly suggest Rush Hour 1 and 2 and Who Am I.

Kelly Oehlschlager

Police Story is completely insane. Peak jacky chan. Must see.

Harald Mahr

Got to start with Bruce

Tony Olmos

Enter the Dragon

Tony Olmos

I feel that anything at 6% or above should get a watch!

rakesh

My vote is for Crouching Tiger, but I just want to let it be known that Hero is one of the most visually stunning films ever made.

Aaron Ritchie

1) Enter the Dragon (classic Bruce Lee - seriously! why he was a legend! 2) Hero (classic Jet Li! with some historical fiction about ancient China!) 3) Kiss of the Dragon (more Jet Li)

Alex

Hence the subtitles.

Richard Maurer

I must add my voice to the people saying watch Crouching Tiger in the original Chinese with subtitles. the dubbed version is inferior.

tc63132

I don't know Mandarin.

Clay F

I would love to see her reaction to No Retreat No Surrender! It’s horribly done, but I loved it anyway.

Clint Patac

kinda hoping for 6!

rakesh

I agree. I think Kill Bill would run away with it, and that's kind of a shame knowing Cassie's reaction to previous Tarantino films.

Art of Free Speech

Police story is always overlooked cuz no Americans seen it Jackie Chan is like Tom cruise stunts on steroids Plus he’s funny and lovable

TinCan Cosmanaut

Absolutely 100%.

Richard Maurer

You know that Kill Bill would run away it though, right?

Richard Maurer

Some people have proposed a American Martial arts poll and I'd have no problem with that. I just didn't want them muddying up the Asian poll that I've been asking for for over a year. Although I can predict that Kill Bill would run away with a American poll.

Richard Maurer

if you watch Crouching Tiger please watch with subtitles in their original language (Mandarin)

Troy Seva'aetasi

I love the idea of Big Trouble In Little China. Cassie seems to really like Kurt Russel films, and this was a great one for him... and who doesn't like Kim Cattrall?

Anthony Padua

Populism tells us how popular something is. I'll give you that. It still has no bearing on truth, but then truth when it comes to an aesthetic is purely subjective. That is, there IS no right or wrong answer. Which women are better looking; blondes, brunettes, or gingers? There is no objective truth, therefore one can't be "out on a limb" with their opinion. I'm glad you admit I've the right to my own opinion, but that's all it is... my opinion. I will certainly give you, among those who make lists on the internet about martial arts films, there is a heavy bias towards the Chinese films, but I would have agreed to that from the outset. The thing is, I don't even try to claim the American films are better, just that they're more enjoyable for me, and I would have liked the chance to vote for one. That's all I've ever asked for. I don't see why that should be a problem.

Art of Free Speech

She might as well. If she ever had another martial arts poll Enter the Dragon would just dominate it anyway. Let's get the two juggernauts out of the way so if there ever is another poll we can get some real action.

Richard Maurer

Damn, you mentioned "Best of the Best". That brought back some memories!

Kevin Kuma

Yes especially if 2nd place is "Enter The Dragon". Bruce set the bar, and everything he did was real on set. He only hired real martial artists to be in his films because he expected real skill in the fight scenes, and didn't want anyone injured. He invented the 1 inch punch, introduced the high kicks, created his own style of combat, pretty much introduced such movies to Americans. He is worthy of being watched.

Ronald Carpenter

King Fu Hustle??

Tharon Schultz

I hope she watches both 1st and 2nd place

Tharon Schultz

And what assumptions are you talking about? I was pointing out that someone with a American flag avatar would probably be into a movie with American in the title, just making a little joke. Lighten up.

Richard Maurer

A wuxia poll would be great, but I'm just glad she did a martial arts poll with mostly Asian movies.

Richard Maurer

Luckily she's seen it, so we don't have to worry about that poll destroyer.

Richard Maurer

She liked the wuxia style scenes in Shang-Chi well enough, she'll be fine with CTHD. For the record I ended up voting for EtD to keep it close, But honestly I think she'll like CTHD more.

Richard Maurer

That's good. Not that I hate Rush Hour but its been reacted to a lot lately and it could use a rest.

Richard Maurer

I'll voice my opinions wherever I want "pal". For instance, like American martial arts movies, American Ninja/Samurai movies should only be viewed after you've seen the the real thing, if you even bother to view them at all.

Richard Maurer

Please, I doubt if Cassie would ever expect to see a movie poll comment section without disagreements. If she did she'd probably fall out of her chair in disbelief. As for me being happy, I commented that this poll was a pleasant surprise here and I thanked Cassie for the poll in the Upcoming comments sections - for me, that counts as giddy enthusiasm. Sure, I voiced my disagreement with some the poll choices, especially Last Dragon, but when I see something I consider wrong I can't help pointing it out. This poll is near and dear to me and I just want it to be the best it can be. So if my pointing out some movies that don't really fit the poll comes across as sour grapes, sorry, but really it's just meant as constructive criticism. I have also noticed the loudest, most persistent voices are the ones that get heard, so there's really little incentive for me to change.

Richard Maurer

Mortal Kombat (1995), Surf Ninjas (1993)

David Crabtree

A disservice to martial arts fans around the world that the raid is in third place. Such an insane, balls to the wall watch and a beautifully choreographed movie.

Jason Murawski

Karate Kid (1984)

David Crabtree

This is a martial arts category, it makes no reference to any nationality or race. Keep your assumptions to yourself, pal.

David Crabtree

No Retreat No Surrender, Best of the Best.

David Crabtree

Are there martial arts in "Cabin Boy?"

Jeffery Parks

Oooh this is interesting. I’d also add Grandmaster by WKW

AC5555

apprently shes already seen it.

rakesh

I agree. If you're going to do a martial arts poll, you have to start with the best martial artist ever. Lee is considered to be the most influential martial artist of all time. And the father of MMA. Was Bruce a great actor? No, but After Lee's death, his films gained a large cult following. Lee became one of the biggest pop culture icons of the 20th century, and he is often credited with changing how Asians were presented in American films.

Eddie Perkins

I know that Ninja Scroll might be a little too much to ask for... but I would love the girls to watch that Anime Movie

Powers209

The only reason I Did comment in this poll, Is Because The Last Dragon is in the Poll. I didn’t put it there. Cassie Did. I tried to help, but I guess I didn’t do it to your standards. Like I said I’m not skilled in this Genre. I figured you’d be the happiest kid on the block right now, going around showing off how cool your early Christmas Present is, without a care in the world that anyone disagreed with you, because You are the Winner. This is your time to Shine right now. To talk eloquently about something your interested in and just maybe peak people’s and Cassie’s Interests a little more. Alas… It’s your Party. You can Cry… or Punch if you want to. Just Sayin’, if it gets too rowdy. The Host might not want to host again.

Larry Darrell

I think you are right. When I was a kid, I use to watch these movies for the action only, I never cared for the story until I got older. Cassie is new to this genre, she should start with something more simple and direct like bloodsport...maybe 1995 mortal kombat

Edgar Gonzalez

Not a bad idea as long as Rush Hour isn't on it. It would crush everything else in the poll and really should be a mainstream poll (if anywhere).

Richard Maurer

But the ending! With the thing, and name! So poignant.

Richard Maurer

Speaking of cheese, I have a soft spot for Wayne Newton in Best of the Best 2. ("There is only one rule!"... :-) )

Happy Hanukkah

Shang-Chi would be a good recent example. I was considering analogizing to Neo in the Matrix movies, or the "sword" (light saber) duels in Star Wars, especially in the sequel trilogy (as opposed to the original one).

Happy Hanukkah

Populism counts heavily in as far as artistic endeavors are concerned, and while popular opinion of art is often wrong I think this case it's okay to defer to the experts. But it's really okay if you think otherwise, although you should at least recognize you're out on limb with that opinion.

Richard Maurer

Problem is Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon relies on understanding tropes in Chinese martial arts movies. It's like watching Cabin in the Woods and never having seen a horror. Enter the Dragon establishes all of the tropes.

pinkdino99

That I could get behind.....err, not the Cassie's head exploding part......you know what I mean.

Richard Maurer

I noticed in past reactions to Crouching Tiger that reactors tend to be confused by this, sometimes to the point being taken out the film's story. So explaining this to Cassie was a good idea, and something I'd planned on doing myself but you beat me to it. I have tried to explain wuxia films like CT,HD as the Chinese equivalent of American superhero films in the past, with mostly favorable results, and given Cassie's enjoyment of the MCU (Shang-Chi in particular), I think this would be a good route to take.

Richard Maurer

" Google best martial arts movies (the serious lists, not some Screen Rant garbage} and you'll notice a lack of American movies and a overwhelming number of Asian ones. " Again, irrelevant. Your argument is an argumentum ad populum fallacy. Back in the early 19th century, most people thought miasma caused disease. Germ theory was considered to be ridiculous. The point is, the popularity of an idea has nothing to do with the truth, yet you keep pointing to how popular your idea is. The popularity is irrelevant. It tells us as much as the sky being blue.

Art of Free Speech

A Japanese Samurai/Ninja combined poll would be great. Now that I can't really beg for a martial arts poll anymore maybe I'll start begging for a that instead. Although i suspect that might be a bit of a harder sell.

Richard Maurer

Definitely offensive, as so many good films could of had that spot on the poll. And while I doubt any could have beat the two polls leaders they were at least deserving of a chance, unlike Last Dragon. "Cassie said she doesn’t know anything about this genre. This is the perfect time to calmly and politely explain to her about serious Martial Arts films, and the ones that joke around with the subject, which should be watched at a different time… or not watched." - completely agree with this, so why didn't anyone who proposed Last Dragon do this? This leads me to suspect trolling at least in some cases. I believe this is a part of a wider problem, that is, people who have no stake in a theme poll trying to interject their vaguely theme-related choices into it. It would be like if I, who has no interest or knowledge of Rom-Coms, tried to get Army of Darkness on a rom-com poll, because, hey, it's comedy and has a few seconds of "romance", right? But really, the right thing to do would be for me to stay out of a rom-com poll, and that's exactly what I have done in the past. I wish more people would do this too, but most people seem to think they need to weigh in on every poll. That last comment wasn't directed at anyone in particular, but since after writing it I did have a thought that you might take it that way and still didn't change it, maybe a little bit?

Richard Maurer

Maybe a East Meets West Martial Arts / Action Extravaganza later down the line Kill Bill Big Trouble in Little China Blood Sport and/or Kickboxer Under Siege Blade Mortal Kombat Plus Some Cheesy Offerings. Best Of the Best China O Brien

rakesh

Watch all of them cassie!

Edgar Gonzalez

I grew up with Shaw Brothers movies like The 36th Chamber of the Shaolin. But I do love Crouching Tiger and Enter the Dragon. Another one I think she might like is Red Cliff.

Prophet2272

Got bored, didn't bother to read most this as you were just repeating the same argument that I already disagreed with and said nothing to change my mind. But anyway Google best martial arts movies (the serious lists, not some Screen Rant garbage} and you'll notice a lack of American movies and a overwhelming number of Asian ones. You'll probably make some argument against this but that really should be enough evidence to support my opinion (there's that word again). As for me being arrogant in believing my opinions are correct, do you normally think your own opinions are wrong? I would doubt that, so if you believe you're correct I guess that makes you arrogant too, by your way of thinking.

Richard Maurer

The Lone Wolf series are Samurai movies not Ninja. Perhaps you should make sure you know what you're talking about before you try to insult someone.

Richard Maurer

"fans of the martial arts genre overwhelmingly consider Asian martial arts films superior to American ones." First, that's a claim which would require evidence. Second, it's an argumentum ad populum fallacy, therefore irrelevant. "As for me seeming to state my opinions as fact, well, to me they are fact, but It should be obvious to anyone that they are my opinions without me having to write imo at the end of every sentence. Sorry it bothers you but I won't be changing how I write my opinions." Clearly... this merely amplifies your appearance to me as being an incredibly arrogant person. You don't have to write "imo" at the end of every sentence. Instead, simply express your opinion as an opinion. In the case at hand, instead of saying " the American movies are just copies, and mostly poor ones at that" say "I find the American movies to be poorer." There... quick, easy, and I have no issue with people expressing their opinion. To that I could easily respond "I find the American movies to be more relatable and more enjoyable" and we'd be free to go about our day, both of us having been courteous and feeling acknowledged. " As for me seeming to state my opinions as fact, well, to me they are fact," Sure, Sparky. And if you thought the earth was flat, that would make it a fact to you. Again... arrogant. One of the best lines I've ever heard goes something like "Accept you can be wrong or accept you will never learn anything new. You can't have it both ways." " The American movies you mentioned (even Blood Sport, which I like) would not even exist without the Asian films that paved the way. " and American literature would never have existed without European literature paving the way. Or are you arguing American literature would have existed without literature from other cultures coming first? Talk about a bold claim. Again, one needn't read ancient literature to appreciate modern literature, even if the modern literature is derivative. It doesn't even make the ancient literature better, just as the Chinese movies coming first doesn't make them better.

Art of Free Speech

Lol. And yet you think your opinion on Kiss of the Dragon was important enough to share with everyone. I'm sorry if it bothers you (or anyone else) if someone disagrees with your opinion, but if you're going to put it out there don't be shocked if someone expresses a different one. The idea that you think you should be able to make a comment in a COMMENTS section without anyone giving their own take makes me think you might be the one with an exaggerated sense of their own importance.

Richard Maurer

Is it really “offensive” or just “mildly annoying?” I mean the movie is third from last out of ten. Cassie said she doesn’t know anything about this genre. This is the perfect time to calmly and politely explain to her about serious Martial Arts films, and the ones that joke around with the subject, which should be watched at a different time… or not watched. Cassie is probably not the only one who could benefit from this. I really don’t think people are as mean-spirited as you like to think. I think everyone mostly votes for the film they want to watch with Cassie most, Over the film that is the best to showcase the Title of the Poll. Every now and then, someone does try and troll, and it seems most people know who they are. By the way, was that last line directed at me? I know I joke around a lot, but I’ve said before, My Aim is True. Respect Intended.

Larry Darrell

crouching tiger hidden dragon is pretentious and boring if you want a good Martial Arts movie the only choice here is police story but Cassie will probably most enjoy Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.

pat on

That is crap, at least go with the Lone Wolf and Cub series if you are serious which I suspect you are not.

Benjamin Gerrald

It is a real shame you can't take other people's opinions because of some absurd sense of your own self improtance.

Benjamin Gerrald

poice story is there, just the wrong year.

rakesh

Still, not a martial arts movie.

Richard Maurer

The real shame is it made the poll. Hero, along with Fist of Legend and Once Upon a Time in China are better examples of Jet Li's talent, both as an actor and martial artist.

Richard Maurer

I kind of wish I had suggested some good JAPANESE Ninja movies (like Azumi or Shinobi: Heart Under Blade) for the poll even though they aren't technically considered martial arts movies. As for American Ninja, I'd like to think you're joking but something about your avatar tells me you're not.

Richard Maurer

I'd be down for a cheesy movie poll, which is where Last Dragon belongs but wouldn't win there either.

Richard Maurer

CTHD is (kind of) the LotR of Martial Arts movies.

Richard Maurer

Except that the dubs are often much father away from what's really being said than the subtitles. As any anime fan can attest to.

Richard Maurer

Hey, I have to do my best to gatekeep, and having a movie that is basically considered a joke amongst martial arts fans in a serious martial arts movie polls is offensive to me. From reading the comments I truly believe at least some of the people who recommended it and voted for it are in fact trolling to subvert the poll away from the actual good movies that their fans want to see win.. It would be like if there was a John Wayne poll and I (along with others) made a push for The Conqueror to get on the poll and win. But I guess it's okay as long as it's genre you don't care about, right?

Richard Maurer

While opinions on art are not ever to be considered fact, but as far it goes fans of the martial arts genre overwhelmingly consider Asian martial arts films superior to American ones. You are free to disagree (obviously) but personally I agree with the general consensus on this topic. As for me seeming to state my opinions as fact, well, to me they are fact, but It should be obvious to anyone that they are my opinions without me having to write imo at the end of every sentence. Sorry it bothers you but I won't be changing how I write my opinions. As for the whole everything's been done already so nothing is really a rip-off argument, it really doesn't hold water. Do I really need to go into the history of Asian martial arts cinema and how the American movies that followed used these films as a template. The American movies you mentioned (even Blood Sport, which I like) would not even exist without the Asian films that paved the way.

Richard Maurer

What would you put in a Cheesy Movie Poll?

Mark Vaderr

Shame kiss of the dragon is not doing better.

Benjamin Gerrald

The problem is the subtitles very rarely reflect what is actually being said. I speak Spanish near fluently, and I can tell you when you see a movie in Spanish with English subtitles, you are missing half of the nuance of what's being said.

Art of Free Speech

Start with Enter the Dragon cause that’s the OG martial arts movie. Then Dragon Bruce Lee Story to see what it took to drive him to be the legend that is Bruce Lee.

Clint Patac

"Enter the Dragon is the Citizen Kane ..." Totally disagree. Enter the Dragon is actually good.

Mike Lemon

Here to note I didn't vote because I'm super unsure what the sisters would like out of the list. As a newbie its seems like Enter the Dragon would the "Duh. Starting point!!!" choice. Its really good. Cassie and Carly approved? Maybe. Ive seen four of the movies (Crouch, Hero, Enter, IP) but its been an age. Can't possibly make a rec.

ContrabandDonut

American Ninja and American Ninja 2!

David Crabtree

A campaign for a Cheesy movie poll could target the American national cheese day – June 4th or the International cheese day – March 27th As GOUDA day as any other for it. Many would be GRATE-ful. 😊

Steve Holton

The only movie from this list with a cool soundtrack

Joe M

Sho’ Nuff!

Larry Darrell

@Kent Marsh @Mark Schamber "OH!...don`t worry, we will continue the fight for `The Last Dragon', maybe a `Chessey Movie Poll', maybe it will finally get seen if Cassie does a poll like that."

Bridget

I, and most likely you, watched The Last Dragon in its time which I think carries a nostalgic effect that may wager different if watched for the first time today. Having said, I agree it would be super fun to watch. I voted The Bruce Lee Story, its emotional, intense and a call to the time. Cassie would probably be the first ever to react to it. Unfortunately, its looks you may still not get your way.

Kevin Kuma

I’m so happy about CTHD leading the poll; I have to go back and watch Carly’s reaction to LOTR. (FYI: The long uncut reaction)

Uncle Phoenix

There's certainly a whole lot of engagement on this post, so here's hoping.

Happy Hanukkah

Ip Man or Kiss of the Dragon. Definitely recommnded

Matt Demayo

Oh my gosh, you HAVE to watch The Raid at some point. My favorite martial arts/action movie of all time.

Evan F. Coveney

Too true, "different styles" - one view would only allow realistic fighting, like Rocky but with martial arts (Ip Man, the Bruce Lee's, etc.). But that misses a lot of what could be called MA-adjacent movies, like CTHD, that are great stories and visually stunning.

Martin John

The Last Dragon is more like a Parody/Homage/Tribute to the genre, set in a long 80s Music Video. This is not a bad thing, in my opinion. It may not be your taste, and that’s fine too. If you like 80s Music and Movies and have seen Other more serious Kung Fu, Ninja films before, then it would be more enjoyable for sure. I agree it’s not a good place to start if you’re trying to introduce someone to the Martial Arts film genre. If this was the point of the Poll, with the expectation that she might continue to do more of these polls and learn more about the Genre and Sport and Way of Life, I agree The Last Dragon shouldn’t be on this Poll. If there were more people voting for The Last Dragon, I wouldn’t be complaining, because like I said before, I’m not the biggest fan of the genre, and I have a soft spot for the film. But, As a Fan of Film, I do believe the genre deserves Respect. And if Cassie is really interested in Martial Arts films then I do hope she gets the proper exposure. I’m sure there are folks, such as you Richard, who can explain the intricacies of the genre better and direct her properly. Although you’re going to have to deal with others who, just might be voting for the most popular and most well known film on any Poll. Being Crouching Tiger this time. Or Big Trouble in Little China next time. Anyways, Time will tell if Cassie was just, as Cole said, “throwing a bone.”

Larry Darrell

I never said I couldn't enjoy things from a different culture, merely that I can relate better to things in my own culture, thus enjoy that more. As far as my analogy, it holds fine as there is not a single form of literature which is originally American. Everything had been done before, from children's books to novels. You don't need to read Mary Shelley's Frankenstein to appreciate Stephen King, and it would be moronic to say so. As far as expressing your opinion, I have no problem with that... WHEN it is expressed as opinion. You expressed yours as fact. That's where I take issue. You didn't say "I prefer the Chinese martial arts films because..." You said " the American movies are just copies, and mostly poor ones at that." That's not expressing your opinion. That's making a claim of fact. It is, IMO, an inconsiderate and frankly, a bit arrogant way to communicate.

Art of Free Speech

Current leads are good, but Dragon the Bruce Lee Story has a love story in it which is a pretty good litmus test for getting Cassie on board with something new.

Johnny Liu

If Cassie were to watch EtD I think it should be pointed out to her that you need to watch more for Bruce Lee and less for the actual story itself .

Richard Maurer

Soon you will learn the way of the dragon, Casshopper!

Bill W

I think many of the people asking for Last Dragon are trolling, because it's a really bad example of a martial arts movie. It would be better in a so bad it's good poll with movies like The Room.

Richard Maurer

I feel sad for people who can't enjoy something just because it's not from their culture. And your analogy about the epic of Gilgamesh doesn't really make sense as we're talking about one genre, not film history as a whole. Also, asking why people must share their opinion in a COMMENTS section is a strange thing to say.

Richard Maurer

Whoa! Look at all of these comments. I have a feeling we’ll be seeing some of losers of this poll again, but as necessary bait for the genre, I have choose the one that I think captures the SPIRIT of Martial Art Saturdays for me and that is: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. And PS, I love every single one of the rest of them.

Ike

To me it would be like watching Bohemian Rapshody without knowing the music of Queen - you would know the backstory without a real understanding of the art.

Richard Maurer

Ok, all you "Big Trouble isn't a martial arts movie" folks, what if she did a double feature of Buckaroo Banzaii and Big Trouble? Assuming her head wouldn't explode, of course.

John Armbruster

It’s super fun, I’m not disagreeing, but it’s a parody. Part of me just wouldn’t enjoy a reaction where a bunch of jokes are being missed because Cassie hasn’t seen any of the movies being made fun of. I think I used Scream as an example because it is the first slasher I saw. It blew my mind but watching it again after seeing all the films it’s playing with is a much better experience.

Jacob King

Because it is not a martial arts film? I think I have the right answer here.

Mike LL

Yes, but if she is unfamiliar with the genre, what is the hilarity, absurdity, and silliness ABOUT? Need to introduce her into the genre first.

Mike LL

I'd rather she watch a straight out film before going into the comedy.

Mike LL

I'd have to agree. Jackie Chan>Bruce Lee. More entertaining, anyway.

Mike LL

That's a nice idea, but the argument doesn't really follow. By that logic, The Epic of Gilgamesh should be the first book anyone reads, followed by the Greek classics. After all, other novels are just copies of these classics. How can you read See Spot Run without reading the Illiad? It's a trash argument. " the American movies are just copies, and mostly poor ones at that." Clearly your opinion. Mine differs. Why do some people feel everyone must share their opinion on things? The American martial arts films are better, IMO, because I recognize the culture in them. I can relate to them better. Look, nobody is saying YOU have to like them, least of all me, and I came right out and said an American martial arts film wouldn't win. That said, in the interest of fairness, their should have been at least one represented, whether or not YOU like it.

Art of Free Speech

I know nothing about Chinese politics, theatre characters, or multilingual puns and I loved it the first time I saw it.

Jeff Chance

Kung Fu Hustle is good movie but it’s super dense with inside jokes and references to genre tropes, Hong Kong cinema, classic American cinema, stock characters from theatre, Chinese politics, multilingual puns, cartoons and a bunch of other things I’m not aware of. If we are picking a film for someone who is new to the genre it would be confusing rather than fun, a bit like watching Scream as your first slasher movie with an added cultural barrier. I think a lot of people vote with Cassie’s taste in mind.

Jacob King

Ooooo [excitment😏] there's some good ones on this voting poll! Too bad BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA didn't make the list, that's a good movie, and yes Kurt Russell is in it lol! Another Martial Arts movie I highly recommend for the future, THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM, the only movie that puts both Jackie Chan and Jet Li together, talk about a perfect recipie of awesomeness lol! Plus you can't go wrong with the RUSH HOUR trilogy, but that might be more on the "buddy cop" genre, either way lol! As I recall, I believe you've seen the SHANG HAI NOON/KNIGHTS movies correct? If so, then you can cross those off lol! Oh my, THE LAST DRAGON, that is one of the most 80's movies that ever 80's with a good lair of cheese, but still enjoyable nonetheless "Sho'nuff" LOL🤣🤣🤣 Some of my other favorite Jackie Chan movies I also recommend, the ARMOUR OF GOD films (Jackie Chan turned Indiana Jones style) and RUMBLE IN THE BRONX, those are entertaining and let alone, you actually see the end results of dangerous stunts he did that nearly cost him his life, Jackie Chan is so dedicated and I admire him for his determination! My vote for now is CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON, great cast, great action, great martial arts even though most are done with wire work, amazing sword choreography, etc. Great picks Cassie, love and support always, Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family, [virtual hug🤗] God bless you, Carly and your family🥰😁😉😇🙏👍🌹

Wesley White

You are right that Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story is primarily a bio-pic with some entertaining martial arts set pieces. Whereas Enter The Dragon is a seminal martial arts film. Bruce Lee’s artistry in Enter The Dragon is a revelation, and correctly made him an international superstar upon its release. He of course died right after its principal photography concluded and never realized its success. Knowing his story before viewing Enter The Dragon personalizes the film and may make it an even more cherished experience. But knowing the achievement before seeing the backstory would also work well. It is an interesting question.

Steve Holton

That's how I feel too

Scott Souza

Crouching Tiger is a great movie but there should be a lot more Kung Fu Hustle votes.

Jeff Chance

Fair point. I was also thinking of voting for Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story though, and felt that to truly appreciate it she would need to see Enter the Dragon first. That swayed me truly.

Francis X. Lord

Maybe they need a separate poll. Could split the dramas/violent ones from the comedies

Dazman

That's true, but even I (a martial artist, a martial arts film fan and a Bruce Lee fan) struggle a bit with how dated and cheesy it seems now, with lots of unintentionally funny bits. I can't see her really enjoying it as much.

Dazman

No Jackie Chan's Drunken Master (1978), Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, and Police Story (1985)???

G

Cassie and Carly will enjoy Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. It will be a great reaction.

G

I had to go for 'Enter The Dragon' even though I agree with some people that there are other films that Cassie would enjoy more listed. It's the earliest on the list and influenced all the other films.

Francis X. Lord

Enter the Dragon is the Citizen Kane of chop-socky Bruce Lee films. But I don't think Cassie would like it. Crouching Tiger is one I think she and her sister would really enjoy. The Bruce Lee Story is another one she'd enjoy.

David Blount

So interesting fact about Bruce Lee. He was really good friends with Sharon Tate he taught her moves for her movie The Wrecking Crew. I won't get into the wild rumors that surround the two of them. Sharon loved Bruce Lee as a friend.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

A note for Cassie (and other neophytes): there are different styles of martial arts movies. The apparent winner, the very worthy Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, contains "supernatural" and completely unrealistic fight scenes. (As Larry put it, it's more Cirque du Soleil than Martial Arts.) Other movies, such as the (Western) pioneer Enter the Dragon, have much more grounded fighting (for a movie, of course).

Happy Hanukkah

Watching movies with subtitles really isn’t that difficult.

Tim Raths

Hero, Kung Fu Hustle, Kiss of the Dragon, and Police Story would be my other picks off of THIS list, but there are tons of good films out there. I have yet to see House of Flying Daggers or Iron Monkey watched by ANYONE on youtube OR patreon. I would LOVE to see Cassie and Carly watch the OG Drunken Master from 1978 and the Jet Li film Fearless (Jet Li has TONS of quality cinema under his belt, in my ever so humble opinion). I really enjoy Stephen Chow's early work so Shaolin Soccer would be another one that I would love for the sisters to watch, in addtion to KFH. Chocolate is another WONDERFUL film that I have NEVER seen anyone react to....and again, I think C&C would enjoy that one immensely.....

David Bennett

I disagree, and The Martial Arts History Museum in Los Angeles. google scholar, IMDb, wikipedia, google (in general), John Carpenter, the Martial Arts choreographer he hired for the film, amongst many other individuals and groups are with me on this so I feel comfortable that you aren't. At least we can agree it's enjoyable though right?

Jimmie V

Guess you didn’t see my other post.

Larry Darrell

Oh come on...how is IP only at 9%???? That is so up Cassie and Carly's ally

Andy Eggroll

Lionheart!!!!! (It was called Wrong Bet in Australia).

John Cranberry

If I had my way it would be The Last Dragon, but I honestly think Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story is important for Cassie to learn about the man, before watching Enter the Dragon. But I never get my way. 😭

John Cranberry

Then a Hong Kong Phooey marathon!

Bill W

Agreed Indeed!

Richard Rolen

I'm happy there's no Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Not that it would win, but there's always that 5% that would waste their votes on it.

Bill W

Tony Jaa is insane. Tom-Yum-Goong aka "The Protector"

Bill W

I'm wondering if it's somehow First Strike, which came out in '96 and is part of the Police Story series.

Bill W

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist?

Bill W

Well, it would have been better than Last Dragon anyway.

Richard Maurer

If only it were a martial arts movie.....but it's not.

Richard Maurer

Maybe we could have a US made martial arts poll and watch Kill Bill run away with it.

Richard Maurer

There is one missing in this list: Shaolin Soccer In my opinion the comedies would be more enjoyable for her then the drama.

Naryma

BTW Cassie, my mom is home and doing good. Thank you for the much needed distraction tonight. Talking to you and watching your Blast From The Past Premiere really helped while I was stuck in the waiting room in the hospital.

Katie Jackson

Tum-Tum. I remember going to see it in the theater. The other brothers were Rocky and Colt.

Katie Jackson

Anybody remember "The Master" with Lee van Cleef and Timothy van Patten (double van!!) or "Sidekicks" with Gil Gerard (Buck Rogers) and Ernie Reyes, Jr. (from Red Sonja)? I think they only ran for 1 season each in the early/mid 80s.

Bill W

Moaning about poll choices is an integral part of reactor comments sections, right up there with telling the reactor to watch all the choices.

Richard Maurer

One of the films I'd hoped would make the poll, but the Last Dragon had to be there, for some inexplicable reason.

Richard Maurer

She should really watch Crouching Tiger and Enter the Dragon, or maybe I'm just being greedy......Nope, she should definitely watch both.

Richard Maurer

One of many films that would have been a good replacement for that waste of poll space, Last Dragon.

Richard Maurer

I think you're splitting hairs (with a Dao), personally I'm glad the poll had more than just fists (and feet),

Richard Maurer

I think she should watch the real Bruce Lee before a bio-pic about him.

Richard Maurer

Kinda need to see the source material to appreciate a spoof.

Bill W

no

Bill W

BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA is more enjoyable than all these and yeah, KURT RUSSEL.

Jimmie V

Many of them, yes, but not usually as the focus. The tone and style for wuxia are just different and distinct from pure martial arts films. But again to a newcomer CTHD is close enough to merit inclusion here

Patrick Flanagan

Has she reacted to Kill Bill?

Stan the Man

Good for You.

Richard Maurer

Oh yeah, one of these days you have to watch BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA! It definitely has plenty of martial arts action, but also magic and monsters, and of course, KURT RUSSELL. We love a good Kurt Russell and John Carpenter team up, and the rest of the cast is great too. Cinebinge watched it and it was extra interesting because George speaks Cantonese and knows Chinese cinema, and Big Trouble In Little China is kind of an homage to both American Westerns and Chinese Wuxia (fantasy adventure) movies.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

This poll is pleasantly surprising, most of the movies are part of my top six recommendations, with only a few I'd remove as they don't really belong - Last Dragon is a (bad) joke, Dragon the Bruce Lee Story is a bio-pic which should only be watched at a later date if Cassie is actually interested in Bruce Lee's life (Bio-pic poll?), and Kiss of the Dragon is.... a movie. As I predicted Crouching Tiger and Enter the Dragon are running away with it and it would be nice if Cassie watched both of these very different martial arts movies Finally, that Last Dragon is doing better than Hero is a sin.

Richard Maurer

Hmmm, bad movies or subtitles. I pick, none of the above.

Craig Russell

Same here. I voted for "The Last Dragon", but yeah, definitely need to watch "Enter the Dragon" first.

Robert Walker

Like it not, the martial arts genre was created in Asia (China) and the American movies are just copies, and mostly poor ones at that. And introing someone to martial arts films with Am. movies would be like introing them to westerns with the Italian ones (except the the Italian ones tend to actually be good).

Richard Maurer

Now yer talking!!! Would LOVE to see a Cassie reaction to BTiLC!!! Actually I thought she had seen it!😅 I must be thinking of someone else.

Todzilla

omg, where is "Bloodsport"?

Robert Walker

I respectfully disagree. I'm not the "longest PiB fan" by any means, but I started watching her when she was just a few months old. Some of Cassie's BEST reactions are from movies (that she openly admits) she would never have watched. Trying to pick movies that are "Cassie friendly" or "something she'll enjoy" defeats a lot of the purpose of her channel. Picking CTHD because it's "universally liked" isn't gonna be as interesting (in my opinion) than her watching a dubbed Bruce Lee film. I think people really underestimate Cassie. She constantly proves that she can watch anything and almost enjoy anything. And even what she doesn't enjoy, she has awesome reactions. Again, not gonna lose sleep or hate on people that are excited for her to see CTHD. Just personally bummed she's missing the really OG martial arts movies.

Todzilla

Yessss. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is one of my all time favs. Michelle and Chow at their very best. I was working at a theater in Chicago when this was released. I remember watching the opening like 50 times through the projector window before I got to see it myself. It’s such a beautiful film. I still get moved by so many scenes, especially the bamboo trees. And yes, the martial arts are 💯 on point.

Maxoutkast

This poll is one vote only.

Aaron Mann

Yes, the Crouching Tiger dub isn't worth watching.

Richard Maurer

lol. Don't you mean how is it getting ANY votes?

Richard Maurer

It's a martial arts poll, not a bad movie poll.

Richard Maurer

Love Big Trouble and it absolutely does NOT belong on this poll.

Richard Maurer

I'd actually give Blood Sport a pass to be in this poll, even though it's not Asian made. It's kind of honorary Asian.

Richard Maurer

Last Dragon is garbage and shouldn't be on this poll with so many real martial arts movies

Richard Maurer

Honestly, Hero is up there with Crouching Tiger for having the best story in the poll. It might not have the crazy martial arts action of some of the other movies but the story is so much better.

Richard Maurer

Asian martial arts films are rarely just hand-to-hand fighting. Weapons use is a major part of these films.

Richard Maurer

Oh Cassie, I think you'll love Crouching Tiger, especially the love stories! Although, looking at this list, many of these don't have the happy ending that you hope for.

Mike Amandes

Nope. This poll is for real martial arts films.

Richard Maurer

She should probably watch the real Bruce Lee (EtD) before watching a bio-pic about him, don't you think?

Richard Maurer

This may be the only time we will ever see "Dragon: A Bruce Lee story", on a Movie Poll. It would be a shame to miss this underrated, fly by night classic. But I understand there are plenty of good movies on here.

Kevin Kuma

I bought the soundtrack as a kid, and I still have the CD. I know what you're talking 'bout. I do know.

Larry Darrell

Hero deserves more votes

Nick Parker

Please do Big Trouble in Little China sometime! It's an 80's flick... With Kurt Russell... And leading lady Kim Cattrall! Not a serious MA movie, but so fun!

Martin John

Ya the right one is 1985 police story, its Jackie's best imo

Sahitya

omg we watched that all the time as kids-tum tum? tom tom?

Cassie

Yes!!!

Sahitya

Keep up the good fight! She may just throw it in there for cheesy fun.

Kent

Takashi Miike's 13 assassins. Who knows when we will get a samurai poll

Sahitya

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the Avatar of martial arts films. I think a lot of folks are just going to simply vote for the popular stuff. Obviously, recognition = more views, so it makes sense. I'm glad to see some cult hits making these lists though. There's still hope!

Kent

I don't think the Police Story listed here is the right year. The original was 1985 and it has some of the best action sequences and fight scenes out of most of these picks - and some of Jackie Chan's best stunts. Ip Man is fantastic too. I like Crouching Tiger for it's Wuxia influence in the mainstream but isn't my favorite in this list. Maybe Cassie can do a Blaxploitation double feature sometime with The Last Dragon and Shaft!

Kent

I am honestly not a major fan of this genre. I have only ever seen five of these films, Crouching Tiger not being one of them. But, from what I had seen of it, it reminded me more of Cirque du Soleil than Martial Arts. When I think of Martial Arts Films, I think of the Bruce Lee, Sonny Chiba, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, Cynthia Rothrock... in Action Films. I mostly think of the 70s Martial Arts films. I voted for The Last Dragon, just because that's what the kid in me got really excited about. Although, before its over, I may have to go with Enter the Dragon. From what little I know, this seems like a more proper beginning to the genre. Last thought: If she is really interested in this genre. Perhaps watching 1 or 2 or 3 films from each decade, starting with the 70s, spread out over a year, would give her the best taste of the different kinds of Martial Arts films. She could do the First Monday of every month. Martial Arts Monday Poll... or MAM Poll if you will. This would give everyone a reason to say... Thank You Mam, to Cassie. :-) Again, Coming from someone who is not skilled in the way of the Kung Fu Movie.

Larry Darrell

That's very funny. And I don't disagree. Look anyone who knows martial arts movies, know Bruce Lee started it all and there's really not a close second. And that being said, we should be watching Enter the Dragon because that started it all. But Cassie is not going to be like us....lol You have to cater a little bit. I'm pretty sure she's going to love C.T.H.D. I don't think she would "love" Enter the Dragon." And her loving the movie is a big part of enjoying the reactions......at least it is for me.

James Sweeney

The King of Kung Fu or more accurately "Jeet Kune Do" is a definite must!

Randolph Tirazona

There's a little truth in that statement brother. I'm always thinking, "Oh There's such better choices." Lol

James Sweeney

(in a screaming yell) "MORTAL KOMBATTTTTT!!!" (enter awesome music) - I know, I know! haha!

Philip Alan

Ooh, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon or Hero are my two choices. Before Kung-Fu Hustle should watch Shaolin Soccer because Kung-Fu Hustle was made after and it sort-of ups the game and sometimes it's too advanced for new viewers.

Mannygogou

It is martial arts, so there will be some fighting. 😊

Steve Holton

I never complain about Cassie 🤣 Well except her and Carly ripping on Batman 89. Cassie just watches what we pick, and we mostly have awful taste in movies!!🤣

Todzilla

💯 I'm not totally clowning on Cassie's Patreons, and when I do, I'm clowning on myself, but some of the choices are mind boggling 😅😅😅 I just think the majority of her fans want the real "vanilla" type of movie for her. Worried that they have to give her enough excitement, but nothing too crazy, but something popular. My guess is most haven't seen a lot of Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan films from the 70s and 80s, or if they did, they worry they will be boring to Cass. So that's why Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragonis winning. These are the same folks that would tell Cassie to get real authentic Chinese food that she should go to Panda Express 😅

Todzilla

I would have gone with WING CHUN (1994) the martial arts rom-com with Michelle Yeoh. Checks all the PiB boxes!

Paul Stelter

My first poll when I joined was indeed the Western poll and I was going "What the heck is going here?!" when Maverick won.

Shawn Kildal

"A man who knows how to live... Has no place for death to enter!"

Steve Holton

Hilarious. She throws you guys a bone, and you moan about it😂 I mean, I admire the passion, but cut her some slack please.

Cole Jennett

If I were picking solely on the film I believe Cassie would enjoy the most I would pick Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story. It’s really Bruce’s wife’s version of their story and she poured her heart into it. I think she’d enjoy it like she enjoyed Rocky II.

Steve Holton

And sadly, it's the only BRUCE LEE movie that fits your description. (As well as restraining some of his acting excesses.)

Happy Hanukkah

That is what I was hoping for, some old school Jackie Chan. Well, Police Story was a choice.

Mike LL

*nods* The council is in agreement.

rakesh

Agreed. If I were curating, I'd start Cassie off with Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, segue into Enter the Dragon, then Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (not that I love it so much, but Cassie is more likely to, and also might as well get it off the bucket list), and as a palate cleanser, Kung Fu Hustle.

Happy Hanukkah

Far from great, but a pleasant enough way to pass the time.

Happy Hanukkah

WHERE the F*CK is "Ong Bak" in this poll ?! I know its not a classic and not the strongest story telling ( 😅 ) movie.... but still!

Matt Chris

Well don't leave us hanging! What did you pick!

rakesh

You MUST watch Enter The Dragon! Here in the western world it's the film that started it all. It's unique in that it has Hong Kong kung fu styling, with Hollywood production values (and budget)!

Richard Rolen

I have to agree with the comments about Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story... I think Cassie will like it best. But I'm not going to argue with watching any of the others again.

Anthony Padua

dang, Make me watch IP man again,

zynjams

I'm kinda glad my recommendations made it. I'm in agreement with a couple of posters here that Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story should be the film that kicks it all off. Sneak it in there Cassie, use the inside man executive move!! It's faltering as this is quite a huge poll, but it's the one that has the most heart-warming story that C&C will appreciate. I believe Crouching Tiger is leading the pack because of its Oscar wins and still has a lot of name recognition. Personally, I think she'll like the raid the least. Don't get me wrong. its a great film with John Wick-type action sequences but feels just a tad bit repetitive like a computer game trying to level up. Plus I'm biased as it helped tank Dredd at the box office which had similar themes but was the better film IMHO,

rakesh

when I watch IP man, I imagine Cassie watching this absolutely great movie.

zynjams

Seriously people. She has to start with Bruce Lee. I don’t care about the quality of the film or how well it’s reviewed. This is a must non negotiable.

Jerrod Acree

I'd watch Dragon the Bruce lee story before you watch IP man.

Jayson Phillips

Oh, I love Kung Fu Hustle. But Tod, if you insist on realistic martial arts... :-)

Happy Hanukkah

I remember that show. Never really got into it.

Bill W

To be followed, of course by the bloody marvelous Kung Fu: The Legend Continues. "The grandson of Kwai Chang Caine walks out of the past" ... and into Toronto. :-)

Happy Hanukkah

YES!

rakesh

Kiss of the Dragon? Over Danny the Dog/Unleashed? Who’s making these recommendations? hahaha.

djKENTO

Hahahaha. Sorry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NseZV8k5NqU

Happy Hanukkah

I happened to come across CTHD with a French voice-over on TV. "Ziyi Zhang"'s voice was so grating I couldn't zap away fast enough.

Happy Hanukkah

It has to be the 1985-movie... and it's fantastic! Quite possibly my favorite Jackie Chan movie...

Jens Kristensen

Criminal that The Raid is only at 8%. One of the all time great and innovative action films.

dan

😆🤣

Katie Jackson

Yeah Kung Fu Hustle is so legit. It's amazing.

Todzilla

Absolutely! If not Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan should be Cassie's introduction to martial arts! Actually Cassie will really love Jackie Chan. I hope she watches a bunch of his films. Drunken Master and Rumble in the Bronx are two classics. So many to choose from.

Todzilla

Kung Foo Hustle is the clear choice all you art house martial arts lovers. Where's The 5 Deadly Venoms??

Dennis L

That has to be a mistake. The 1996 Police Story is an Indian Kannada-language action film directed by Thriller Manju. She has to mean the excellent 1985 Jackie Chan movie. I think Cassie would enjoy Jackie Chan since his action leans toward the fun side rather than violent side.

Walter

I even love, “Birth of the Dragon”. Definitely the lesser of the two biographies, but still a wonderful movie.

Uncle Phoenix

They are all great movies.

Uncle Phoenix

I will at least agree with you on Kung Fu Hustle. That movie is amazing. I watch it at least a couple times a year.

Todzilla

Also is Cassie referring to Jackie Chan's 1985 Police Story?? I don't know anything about 1996 Police Story being a martial arts movie.

Todzilla

I'll say simply there's a lot of variety in martial arts films and some styles you like and others you don't. I don't see a good American martial arts film represented here, sadly (Bloodsport, Under Seige, Billy Jack, Lone Wolf McQuade, et. al)--not that it would win, but it should at least get a voice. They are, for me, the most fun. I'm just not a huge fan of the Asian based martial arts films (except for the really cheesy stuff they used to show on Kung-Fu theatre, but you couldn't take any of that seriously anyway).

Art of Free Speech

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is a wonderful movie on so many levels. IMO has a lot more depth and emotion than most martial arts movies. Michelle Yeoh, Chow Yun-fat and Ziyi Zhang were all great.

Alex Laime

The thing about Kung Fu Hustle is, it's absolutely hilarious. Shaolin Soccer as well by the same director. That said, Crouching Tiger is a masterpiece and should not be missed. My favorite movie on this list, however, is Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon. Love every inch of that movie.

Godzilla Jones

Amen brother. I barely remember crouching tiger hidden dragon. However I watch Kung Fu hustle at least a couple times a year.

Todzilla

Dear god no😢😢😢 How did this happen?!? I prayed everyday since Cassie started this channel that she would watch Martial Arts movies. And crouching tiger hidden dragon is winning? 😢 Guys, It's all wire work 🤦‍♂️ she might as well watch Peter Pan at a theater. This is like when she started Westerns with "Maverick" or "Star Trek" with Galaxy quest. Cassie, we have failed you... We have failed you....

Todzilla

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon has to get a watch, even if it doesn't win the poll (which I think it will) - Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-fat were incredible, but I found Ziyi Zhang mesmerizing. I've always been obsessed with her. She's absolutely drop dead stunningly gorgeous and her voice is like a musical instrument. I would literally run through a brick wall for her lol. And I agree with others, don't be tempted by the version with English voice-overs. They're terrible compared to the original Mandarin version.

David Collins

INVERT THE POLL - Pick two movies, the top rated and lowest rated!!!

Mark Schamber

Amen to that... it makes me sad to think she won't experience the wonderful cheesiness that is The Last Dragon & Sho'Nuff.

Mark Schamber

I'm sad that she may not experience the wonderful cheesiness of The Last Dragon.

Mark Schamber

To say there’s a huge amount of movies to pick from. This is an excellent list of movies, I’m not sure which one to pick lol.

Dean Holt

Kinda bummed Kiss of the Dragon won't win. That's what I voted for.

Jacob Colson

Lots of good ones of the genre in here. You won't go wrong with pretty much any of these, and the top 4 are all definitely worthy.

Matt Rose

Cassie, I personally recommend that you collaborate with cinebinge again on the movie Aftershock 2011... it's a great drama that takes place in China and Canada 🇨🇦 🤞💯🫣

Danika Silva

The last dragon is awesome

Carlos Molina

How is The Last Dragon not getting all the votes!!!

Marvin Just Marvin

Yes. It’s not always about how good the movie is. It’s about watching her be baffled at the sheer lunacy. Sho’Nuff would have perplexed her wonderfully.

Lyle Morgan

There's several other great movies on that poll - maybe even more deserving in the poll category - so I wouldn't go quite that far, but CTHD is definitely the must watch film from that group. I don't see how this one isn't going to be a runaway, but I really hope she runs the poll again without it after it wins and she watches it.

David Collins

You people not voting for The Last Dragon. I’m very disappointed. Watching Cassie react to it, would have been epic.

Joe M

I'm gonna recommend the tv series Kung Fu (1972-1975) starring David Carradine. At least react to the first season (15 episodes).

Bill W

Also Cassie I would recommend watching the version in their language with subtitles. It connects you to the characters and their emotions better, hence connecting you to the story better. But that's just my advice.

James Sweeney

There's some good stuff on here, but yeah...gotta be Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Just got to be.

Steve Mercier

I agree there are much better picks than what's winning, but you have to think of Cassie and what she'd like the best. Or at least that's what I did.

James Sweeney

If Crouching Tiger doesn't win, it's an indictment on Cassie's fans. Do better! Do the right thing!

Norrin Radd

Cassie, Ip Man is an excellent martial arts film. You have seen the lead actor before - Donnie Yen. He played the blind Jedi wanna-be in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Bill W

That's funny....lol

James Sweeney

Shame the raid isn’t doing better. Such an intense and visceral martial arts movie.

Michael Lynch

I voted Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. For martial arts purists, there are much better picks. But this one I think you'll like the best Cassie. (Not giving anything away) there are a few "yikes, close your eyes moments". But with martial arts movies it's hard to get away from that.

James Sweeney

House of Flying Daggers (2004) needs to get some love from reactors.

JayF

Heh, The Last Dragon. Good stuff. Sho'nuff!

Nerd Jared

Agreed. It’s absolutely gorgeous. Beautifully choreographed, beautifully shot, the art direction is fantastic. Oh well.

Gary Trousdale

Wish Hero would get more love. One of my faves

Mike Adams

Totally team tiger on this one, unrequited love and Kung Fu. Cassie will love it.

Ria Grix

How is Big Trouble in Little China not on this?

John Armbruster

Rocky Loves Emily! Rocky Loves Emily! Rocky Loves Emily. (Whispering now) Rocky Loves Emily. Rocky Loves Emily.

Larry Darrell

I'm glad Crouching Tiger is winning so handedly. Not because it's the best or my favorite, but because it's a lock that Cassie will adore it.

D.M. Lipkin

Yeah but it's at 4%. haha

Patrick Flanagan

Gotta have at least one Van Damme movie on there. Even though it would have no chance of winning. But you know, just for representation.

Aaron Mann

Crouching Tiger, that’s it, that’s the whole comment.

Jacob King

Old school jackie chan movies are good, the guy does his own stunts. OG action star

James Johnson

Which is why they got Michelle Yeoh for Shang Chi :)

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

THE RAID: REDEMPTION is the finest action movie of the last 20 years.

Steven Perez

Sho Nuff back in the 80's

Jason Mangen

Some other martial arts films you might want to try: SHAOLIN SOCCER, IRON MONKEY, ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA, 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN, WHEELS ON MEALS, DRUNKEN MASTER, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, FISTS OF FURY, and RETURN TO THE 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN.

Steven Perez

You got to go with Sho-Nuff MacGuffinstuff 🤣

zhitnik2

I somehow convinced myself, in the brief moment, after reading all the titles and before clicking my vote, that The Last Dragon (1985) had a chance. I then clicked it, expecting to see its bar move to the right. Long Story Short… I’m back in 2023. I left my vote in the 80s though. It ain’t comin’ back :-)

Larry Darrell

Hopefully more people have watched Bodyguards and Assassins in this audience 🤞

Danika Silva

I think The Forbidden Kingdom (2008) would be a better intro into this genre for Cassie. Jet Li and Jackie Chan in a light-hearted action adventure movie with few subtitles. Need I say more! Too bad it’s not in the poll!

Luke Godfrey

That's crazy, just this morning I was reminiscing about The Last Dragon, I even thought of changing my name to Sho-Nuff MacGuffinstuff lol. It probably won't win, it's a super 80s movie, so kind of goofy, but also a lot of fun. Anyway it's a great poll, should be a fun reaction no matter what.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

You can't go wrong with CTHD, but I hope you check out some Jackie Chan movies in the future!

_tragicmike

Watch all of them. Please

Carswell

Hero is very much wuxia too, no?

Z Simons

I LOVE Kung Fu Hustle and really hope that Cassie reacts to it one day. The martial arts element is fantastic, it’s hilarious and it has a ton of heart.

Just Plain Bob

Watch all of em, but first Ip Man and Crouching Tiger

J.J

I’d love to see Cassie watch “Crouching Tiger”, as it’s more of a romance with wuxia as part of the setting. Such a fantastic film, still gets me every time I watch it.

Rick Moreno

Hero is a BEAUTIFUL movie, and one of my favorites. Might be wasting my vote, but I couldn't not vote for it. Not sure how Cassie would feel about it. There's a love story! Lol.

Z Simons

Just thought it's a great movie plus and getting to know who Bruce Lee was before watching enter the dragon

baz0348

Exactly

Jimmy Reyes

That would be a fun reaction. Also Surf Ninjas comes to mind. I'd die to see Cassie react to that movie haha

Andrew Ramos

I didn't choose based on which I wanted to see on the channel, but on which I think Cassie will like the best.

Michael J Paulus

I sent Ip Man, then suggested Police Story, but then regard Crouching Tiger as one of the best films ever made. Decisions, decisions...

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

"Choose one"... Seriously?!? This is half a shelf of my DVD collection. 😅

Steven Perez

CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON is fantastic but it's not QUITE a martial arts movie. It's what is called wuxia - a Chinese genre of heroic, historical fantasy, where the characters often have bizarre appearances and fantastic, even superhuman abilities. The fighting is more swordplay than hand-to-hand martial arts. Probably close enough to count for this poll though - the acrobatics and athleticism of the fight scenes is off the charts amazing.

Patrick Flanagan

I'm hoping for this one too. Not only because it's a great movie but because I think Cassie would enjoy it the most.

Andrew Ramos

I'm voting "Crouching Tiger" as it's the only one on this poll that I've seen. That said, "enter the Dragon" and "Police Story" are on my watchlist.

Jake McNulty

If you want to try a martial arts film with hilarity, absurdity, and silliness watch Kung Fu Hustle. It's not getting any love in this poll, but it's good for reactions.

Chris Brown

Not all martial arts movies are bad I voted dragon the Bruce Lee story it's amazing if you want to get to know about Bruce Lee before actually watching him for the first time plus the movie is a tier jerker.

baz0348

Enter the Dragon is awesome! Bruce Lee baby! but Cassie you did like the fighting style of Shang Chi. The mother and her village. Thats the Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon style, I think as you or Carly said its like a dance. fluent. its art work!

Jimmy Reyes

Starting with a Martial Arts theme movie WITHOUT Bruce Lee is like going on a diet the day before Thanksgiving

Bill Maurer

Last Dragon for sure

Yann Laliberté

I voted for the longshot, dragon, the Bruce Lee story that doesn’t have a lot of votes. However, it is a love story, a fictionalized biography of Bruce Lee. Once you see this, then you should watch enter the Dragon. My humble opinion.

Doc Larry

Ip Man is a perfect introduction to the martial arts genre for Cassie.

Dave

I was going back and forth on a few, though I am by no means an expert and CTHD was just so amazing to look at when it came out. Out of curiosity, which are the ones you consider must-watches?

Jennifer Medicus

I'd say the Bruce Lee story to start with but they all very decent, Donnie Yen and Jet Li are so crisp, Jackie has that stunt Kung Fu

Deano

Wow, Cassie, you are on fire today with these updates! Atta girl!

Mark Vaderr

No 36th Chamber of Shaolin 😪

Seymor Butz

I wish Curse of the Golden Flower was on the list.

Jeff Webb

No Forbidden Kingdom? Ah well, maybe next time…

Kung Fu Hustle is genius!

Police Story 3: Super Cop with Michelle Yeoh is AWESOME !!! Two great stars in a great movie

Bill Maurer

I've been waiting sooooo long for this poll. It's a shame Police Story isn't doing well. It may be a little forgotten, but I think Cassie would really enjoy getting into Jackie Chan's classics

Neill Shaughness

Gotta start with the great one: Bruce Lee and Enter the Dragon. However, I also think Raid: Redemption (2011) is an unbelievably good material arts film.

Just Plain Bob

Give police story some love we need Jackie Chan on this channel

Night King01

I will defer to the experts, I’ve never seen any of them, but have seen parts of Crouching Tiger

Cole Jennett

I'm just saying you all know! If she is watching 1 martial arts movie. It's got to be Enter the Dragon.

Jimmy Reyes

Not a serious martial arts movie but for a fun kid movie with martial arts I'd recommend 3 Ninjas.

Katie Jackson

It’s a really good set of poll choices, Cassie! My first vote is for Crouching Tiger. I think it’s the one with the strongest story for Cassie to connect with. I love The Raid, but I think that’s for another day.

Alex Ch

5 of these I consider to be must-watches but I suppose MY pick is gonna have to be CT,HD…..absolutely fantastic film making…..

David Bennett

Crouching Tiger 🐅 Hidden Dragon 🐉 is honestly the best jumping off point and then go back to Enter the Dragon. I forget if you’ve watched the KILL BILL saga.

Jason Dolan

Starts and ends with "Enter the Dragon". Without that movie ... nothing else will follow. Bruce Lee WAS the Martial Arts genre and all that followed.

Bill Maurer

You've got some really solid choices there.

Swigzby

Mortaaaaallllll Kombaaaaatttt!!!!! 😔😢

William Bryan

Ooohhhh! So many beautiful picks! 😁

Zane From Canada

Should also do a wuxia poll so we can vote for A Touch of Zen (i mean cthd is technically one but)

Lance Li

Dragon: the bruce Lee story is one of my all time favorites!

Chris Arthur

Is it supposed to be one vote only, or were we supposed to be able to select multiple?
