Blast from the Past (1999) - Full Reaction

This was such a nice surprise! Brendan Fraser was hilarious, and Alicia Silverstone brought her own special charm! The whole movie felt like a warm hug... cozy, familiar, and just makes you smile! It's these kinds of movies that remind me why I love diving into a story - for the joy and feel-good moments they bring. Hope you enjoy!

This was such a Cassie movie

SHANE MARSHALL

I’m sure it’s been said a thousand times, but for a Brendan Fraser fan his comedy tour de force is really Bedazzled!! And it’s directed by Harold Ramis (Groundhog Day)

Shaun Stuart

So glad you enjoyed this one. It’s been a favorite of mine for some time. You need to get Carly to see it now. There is an old movie that I think you and Carly might like. It’s called Random Harvest (1942) and stars Ronald Coleman and one of my all time favorite actors, Greer Garson. Unfortunately it’s not available for free streaming so you can’t really make a streaming of it. However you can rent it on Amazon. It’s a romantic drama that was nominated for an Oscar. Definitely worth the price of admission.

J.E. Anderson

This is really the perfect popcorn in bed reaction. It is so joyful to see someone enjoy watching a movie this much.

Ria Grix

Kate, if you head over to the discord server, there are loads of technicians who can help troubleshoot your specific setup to ensure a seamless watching experience. -jon

Jon Johns

I always enjoyed Cage's sweet charming endearing movies too.

Jon Johns

Oh, I think I have to add Peggy Sue got Married (I think?) To the list of this... Style? Of story? Another great cast & performances, original idea, and sweet like molasses.

Jon Johns

I 2nd Pleasantville. Amazing performances by the cast (that will be familiar to Cassie) a clever and original script / story, and just a great film. Cassie would be engrossed! (And charmed 😉)

Jon Johns

I’ve always loved this movie. If you’re up for more Brendan Fraser, check out Bedazzled (with Elizabeth Hurley from Austin Powers)

Aaron Ritchie

Ok I’ll give that a try. Thanks.

Luke Godfrey

The sync thing is usually a NTSC vs PAL format difference (assuming the same cut of the movie). Play the fast one at 96% speed and it should be good.

Mike Lemon

Finally got around to watching this reaction. Blast From The Past is one of my all-time favourites so I've been looking forward to this one. As expected Cassie loved it. I'd wager this is one she'll watch over and over like the rest of us. Unfortunately the version on Prime (UK) runs a fraction faster than the version Cassie watched so I had to keep pausing to stay in sync which was a little annoying. Not sure why it does that but it's not the first time. Happened with The Last Of Us too. Everything I watch on Sky runs faster than the version Cassie watches so I usually end up buying or renting it on Prime if it's not on anything else for free. Anyone else have a problem staying in sync? Surely it can't just be me!

Luke Godfrey

You can't pick one movie I can just stream without having to download the bastids

JPDotCom23

Alicia was in a movie with Jeff Goldbleum called" Hideaway" it was a decent adaptation of the Dean Koontz book "Hideaway".

Joshua s. Jackson

The fact that Brenden Fraser did this movie then a few months later did The Mummy. He truly is a great actor!

Daryl

I've got a pretty high bar on RomCom. This is one of the best and most clever.

Above Average Dave

Anyone know what the run time of the version Cassie watched is? The version on Prime has a longer run time than the DVD due to extra scenes.

Luke Godfrey

you study on topics as i do, not very well. your attention span is not good huh. lol you hilariously get things backwards.

Jimmy Reyes

So I watched this a second time with you. There is something I noticed that I never noticed before. At the end she was playing with a ring on her finger. They were engaged!!

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

I really think you should go the deep dive and check out Brendan Fraser in School Ties (1992) for coming of age Brendan, The Whale (2022) for seeerious Brendan, and Bedazzled (2000) for quirky, funny, heartfelt Brendan. I'll even throw in Gods and Monsters (1998) since you've watched the old Frankenstein and will have some more insight.

Blake Evans

So happy you did this one, it's been a fav for a while, and a treat for me stuck home with COVID.

Keith Jones

I really liked his small cameo in Pauly Shore’s “In The Army”, movie

Uncle Phoenix

It is sad that Brendon Fraser’s lead villain role in the most recent DC Batgirl movie will never be seen. (TEAR)

Uncle Phoenix

100% This is one of those movies that got the little things right.

Uncle Phoenix

“Oh My Gosh Oh My Gosh Oh My Gosh, He’s gonna be so Weird.” Love this Movie. Thank You So Much. :-)

Larry Darrell

What a lovely reaction to a very sweet movie. If you want to know more about the actual crisis that led to Brendan Fraser being born in a bomb shelter I can highly *highly* recommend "Thirteen Days" which is about the Cuban Missile crisis and how close the world came to an all out Nuclear conflict. Oh and as a bonus it stars some guy called Kevin Costner . . .

Dryfesands

Now you know EXACTLY why I said this was a top favorite movie for me! You need to watch this again with Carly - that was the only thing that was missing!

Lamar Savage

Brendan Fraser is certainly great at playing the fish out of water. He also did so in George of the Jungle and Encino Man.

Nathan Bishop

Another movie you can use to recover from the ones that trouble you. Your Patrons knew about your time in the Pacific, but you have to leave that info in the YouTube edit so other viewers will know more about your reaction to Adam having the same experience.

Bert Towle

Best reaction list for sure. The OMG face to the awww so cute, and back to stressed was perfect! So if you rewatch bring Carly. I’d definitely watch again with ya. 🥰

Robert Snyder

Wonderful reaction Cassie! I’m really happy you enjoyed it so much! Seeing you tear up when Adam went into the ocean because of what you just experienced in Mexico was beautiful. 🥹 I totally forgot Nathan Fillion was in this! 😀 I know you’re getting a lot of recommendations for The Whale. Which I believe you should watch. But may I also recommend a guilty pleasure of mine, Encino Man. It stars Brendan Fraser and Samwise Gamgee himself, Sean Astin. Kind of a silly movie. But enjoyable if you don’t take it too seriously.

Robert da Spruce

Guys, I Can’t. I turned on Netflix and watched “Love at First Sight”. It was very good, except I couldn’t stop hearing Cassie in my head. On the sad scenes, “STOP!”; On the super tender scenes, “GUYS!” So carry on watching reaction videos with CAUTION.

Uncle Phoenix

Yay! This is one of my favorite movies! Looking forward to watching this reaction this weekend. <3

Colin Gutierrez

If you loved this one, please check out Bedazzled (2000) with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley. Such a gem!

Knight Squirrel

I think Carly would be a great addition to the browncoats!

Terry Yelmene

That was great. This movie is so fun. I couldn't believe how stressed the movie made Cassie. Cassie you stress to much. Sweet reaction.

Rick Williams

This one definitely goes in Cassie’s Reactions Hall of Fame.

Just Plain Bob

So I use to own this DVD, then my fiancee sold it. But I sooooo loved your reaction to this Cassie, OMG your reaction was so priceless, and amazing. Thank you again for amazing reaction. Godspeed

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

The faster one probably a NTSC version (North American - 30ish frames per second) and the slow was probably PAL (European - 25 fps). If the fast one is played at 96% speed, they should match.

Mike Lemon

I would too, but it only did moderately well for views, and since it’s already on the channel, I don’t imagine it will be high on the list. It has been a couple years, and Carly would enjoy it, I just don’t know how likely it is.😕

Cole Jennett

Me too!

TigerDelta

Guys, I would LOVE to see Cassie and Carly REWatch “Firefly”.

Uncle Phoenix

Really trying to seal the deal with Cassie falling for Brendan Fraser, huh? 😀 Bedazzled would do it.

Planner

This movie is delightful, and remarkably it came out in the same year as THE MUMMY. I came across it by chance around the mid to late 2000s while flipping through the TV channels and felt like I had found a rare gem. It is not a very well-known film. This was a fabulous reaction. When Cassie is not only engaged, but truly loves a movie, those are the best. Taking this opportunity to promote THIRTEEN DAYS (2000) a bit, a movie about the Cuban Missile Crisis starring Keving Costner. It is considered a historically quite accurate dramatization of the events.

Gábor Árki

I've experienced that with other reactors, but not Cassie. I either stream the movies from whatever service they're on or just play them from my own digital library. It is frustrating when it happens. I try to find a different source or I end up just pausing the quicker one for a second or two, here and there. It's not ideal, but it's better than not watching the reaction at all!

fire12wife

Cassie forgot to take off the Safety of her finger guns.

Uncle Phoenix

After 'George' and 'The Mummy' and this charming little romp, it must be said, that Brandon Fraser is much, more capable than just these lighter fare characters. To prove this, I'd ask PiB to consider reacting to 'The Whale' - a truly great movie and an amazing character performance for which Brandon Fraser won Best Actor!

Terry Yelmene

I have waited for so long for you to watch this one! Encino Man (1992) has to be next, so you can watch Son-in-Law (1993) for Thanksgiving! Brendan Fraser makes a cameo in Son-in-Law as his character from Encino Man! So glad you are getting to see and feel the love we all have for Brendan and his movies! This movie is SO sweet... you will love it even more every time you watch it! This is one of Brendan's best performances! Such a great reaction from you! You never disappoint!!! Thanks, Cassie!

fire12wife

This movie was all about Cassie's face... her face of genuine disbelief and joy... ending in a huge "Oh My Gosh!" "Why was this auch a GOOD MOVIE?!?" - "It was the LITTLE THINGS!" Cassie's Perfect, Tender November Reaction.

Terry Yelmene

Just curious, what service did others use to watch the movie? Streaming it on amazon, the movie was much faster than the reaction, it's crazy. I don't understand why it would be different.

aarswft

This seems to be the perfect Cassie movie because Cassie liked it so much. That she recognized the nod to Casablanca and the line from that movie made the reaction for me. 😄 I knew when the father mentioned the "worthless" stock certificates at the beginning of the movie that they would be insanely rich at the end. What a great reaction, thank you Cassie! The TV show they were watching in the bunker was the old The Honeymooners show with Jackie Gleason and Art Carney from the 1950's. I guess I liked the movie too because of all the references to the past.

Mike LL

Brendan Fraser was really good in With Honors (1994) which had a awesome soundtrack which was done by Madonna (Maverick Records) she did the song I'll Remember: https://youtu.be/R0cfZczo4yk?si=uWf2EVEKQB7VIBFg

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

I always really liked this movie, glad to see you enjoyed it so much. I echo what I'm sure you've heard and hope to watch The Whale with you to get the other side of the Brendan Fraser resume

Choof

I love School Ties. Damn near the entire cast went on to become superstars in their own way. I also love that Law & Order creator Dick Wolf wrote it. Apparently, inspired by his experience at prep school.

Zane From Canada

I think Brendan Fraser’s best performance of that era was in “School Ties.” A lot of young faces you will recognize, including Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Chris O’Donnell. I know you don’t want to get political, but would be a good movie to watch with some of the current anti-semitism in the world.🫠

Cole Jennett

I’m hoping I have the same change of heart. I barely remember it. I gave it a 5 on IMDb, which is usually the lowest score I ever place, unless something is exceptionally bad like Drop Dead Fred, lol.

Cole Jennett

I haven't seen this in ages; it was funny and good; there are a few parts I'd forgotten about. When Christopher Walken was dancing with Sissy Spacek, and Adam was watching, that reminded me so much of "Catch Me If You Can," and if you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. It's a true story directed and produced by Steven Spielberg starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks with Christopher Walken. It has a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Eddie Perkins

I hope "the mummy" makes you watch With Honors (1994). 😊 It's definitely a movie to watch around the holidays, even though it's not a holiday movie. Brendan Fraser, Moira Kelly, and Patrick Dempsey are Harvard students. A chance encounter with Joe Pesci, a homeless man, changes their lives forever. It's a drama, a coming-of-age, rom-com rolled into one. Directly up your movie alley. 😁

Zane From Canada

Funny but the first time I tried to watch this movie years ago I was so bored I shut it off.. but when watching it with you doing the reaction it really grew on me. Your laughter and excitement are just so so infectious we just can't help but enjoy it with you.

Andrew Rose

I knew in my heart that that movie was right down your alley. Last time I watched it I was reminded of you; probably because you're so wholesome 🤣🤣

Kuskesh Haramzadeh

"Guarding Tess" is another film by Hugh Wilson that you should watch. It's about a secret service agent (Nicholas Cage) and the former first lady (Shirley Maclaine) butting heads.

Zachary Adams

I know an excellent feelgood movie. A swedish one though

Björn Karlsson

Don’t think I ever saw this, and also I like the Seinfeld type logos

Omar

more movies like this please, we have enough violence in the world. i love feel good movies

zynjams

Please don't sleep on Dave Foley... guy is amazing in everything (I'd love to see Cassie react to some choice Kids in the Hall sketches).

Jimmie V

When I saw you were reacting Blast From The Past. I had an Oh Hey! moment. I hadn't seen this movie in a while but I knew you were going to go gaga over it. I immediately checked, Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. Then, I slapped myself in the head. I have a very large DVD collection. I had forgotten that I owned a copy. It's 1am and I just finished watching your Patreon reaction. You had a reaction similar to Lethal Weapon 4. Your reactions were the show. You were leaning forward and fully invested. Good stuff Cassie!!!

L A Lou Peña

Cassie, if you enjoyed this, then you would love "Tammy and the Bachelor".

Mark Vaderr

What a damn great reaction! Cassie.. you ARE a wonder!

Philip Alan

Such a charming and wholesome movie! Glad you enjoyed it Cassie! It’s a little late to start watching tonight. I’m gonna have to wait until tomorrow to watch your reaction. But I’m looking forward to it!

Robert da Spruce

BFTP has a certain charm which really shines through with Brendan Fraser’s performance; always felt this movie was underrated

JL_83

This is a cute film. Nice cast (Fraser, Silverstone, Walken and Spacek).

Stick Figure Studios

This is such a hidden gem from the past (no pun intended) I forgot it existed. I’m glad to rewatch this

TinCan Cosmanaut

Looking forward to this! You gotta watch The Peanut Butter Falcon if you want more feel good movies for this month! First movie ever to have a lead actor with Down syndrome. It’s such a wholesome movie that I know you will love!

shaneth138

This is a good one. Bedazzled is another good and fun movie with Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley.

Kevin Townsend

This was my 20th highest requested movie, very happy it got a reaction 😀 "Pleasantville (1998)" for another of these types of movies in the top 15 on popcornrequests (currently #14). And "Crocodile Dundee (1986)" too, I guess (currently #6).

Planner

I don't believe I've ever seen this film 🤔

Todzilla

Love this movie, haven’t seen it in so long! Lol
