Thanksgiving Movie Poll

Hey turkeys ;) Thanks for all your suggestions for these on the last "Update" post!

 Help me pick one!

Ps-I have seen Planes Trains and Automobiles (will always be a T-gives classic for me now), When Harry Met Sally, Scent of a Woman and Rudy!

Ps-a HEIST movie poll will be going up on the YT members page shortly and a Martial Arts movie Poll on here next week!

Update post coming soon!

Comments

You know what would be a fun poll; who's the best Canadian Ryan? Gosling v Reynolds. Also, can we get some MJ Fox love? Secret of My Success, For Love or Money, or Doc Hollywood?

Javier Hernandez

Can't wait for the Martial Arts poll. Please consider.... Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Chow-Yun Fat, Michelle Yeoh) Kill Bill I & II (Uma Thurman) Hero (Jett Lee) Ip Man - series - (Donnie Yen) Game of Death (Bruce Lee) The Ledged of Drunken Master (Jackie Chan) Passenger 57 (Wesley Snipes) Ong Bak - series - (Tony Jaa) The Best of the Best (Eric Roberts, James Earl Jones) Red Belt (Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tim Allen)

Javier Hernandez

I do. You to complained about the term "cultural appropriation" then use a term, "woke" a 90's urban slang word, that has been appropriated by conservatives. The irony made me chuckle.

Javier Hernandez

Do you have the link to the request page?

Javier Hernandez

Thanks!

Javier Hernandez

You can use the left pointing arrow (by the heart) to reply to a specific comment and keep everything together. The "join the conversation" box at the bottom starts a whole new set.

Mike Lemon

The "already watched" list- https://letterboxd.com/pib1/films/

Mike Lemon

Javier, really you don't hear that used in 2023? That's surprising...

John Liebling

Just to help make it easier, if you hear of an American Holiday you don't understand or don't know about, just assume the tradition revolves around eating and probably a sporting event that only Americans are only into (American Football or Baseball).

ContrabandDonut

@Mike 'LL - I have no problem with classics polls, in fact I believe that's the only way classics will get watched. But think genre polls would more acceptable than ones based on certain decades. If we're talking four per year I would go with Drama, Comedy, Horror\Sci-Fi, and Action. I wish more reaction to classics would happen, just like I wish more reactions to the whole psychotronic underground genre would happen. I'm a realist though, and I know neither of those things is very likely.

Richard Maurer

"Woke"? Really? Um, the mid 90's called and they want their slang back. ha ha

Javier Hernandez

Wondering if Cassie has seen The Pelican Brief with Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington. It is a great thriller/who done it flick.

Javier Hernandez

James Flack those were different times. It was made 5 years before Jackie Robinson and 13 years before Rosa Parks. The talent of Fred Astaire is something Cassie would enjoy. I don't think she's ever seen a movie with him before. Nobody condones racism...but that was the reality of the world. As far as cultural appropriation goes, that's a wokism which has no place in a PIB stream. Political opinions reside in other platforms. It is a fact Fred Astaire considered the best white dancer of his time, referred to the Nicholas Brothers routine in Stormy Weather as the greatest ever captured on film. He had great respect for them, and the brothers had great respect for Fred and the same can be said for many African American dancers from the 30s and 40s.

John Liebling

Richard, I agree a monthly Classic Era poll would be too much to ask for. But what I suggested, just one 30's poll and one 40's poll shouldn't be too unreasonable. Even you want a Classic Era Horror Movie poll. I hope too many classics wouldn't harm the channel, I would hate that to be true. One now and then wouldn't be bad, and Cassie has certainly done that for us.

Mike LL

As much as I love classics, particularly horror classics, I don't think people here are being realistic. A classic poll once a month is very unlikely as classics do very poorly on YT. Once a quarter is more realistic, and even that's pushing it. Cassie can see the numbers and they show that classics can never compete against more modern movies. The sad truth is having too many classics would hurt her channel, and no one wants that I assume.

Richard Maurer

Both were mis-appropriated culture. I wonder whether the stereotypes of Eddie Murphy's party guests would be more offensive now than the white guys playing blacks with blacks celebrating abolition.

Bert Towle

She watched Trading Places, and it had a similarly (I assume) inappropriate scene.

Cole Jennett

That sounds more like Halloween or Samhain.

Bill W

Maybe some Tony Jaa... but again, he won't win against the two Richard mentioned.

Bill W

And by the way, I don't dislike Karate Kid. It's a good film for what it is. But it's not a martial arts film by any real definition of the word, and doesn't belong in a martial arts film poll.

Richard Maurer

By the way, No Rush Hour either, a movie that could easily win a action poll, even a regular poll. If you're going to have Jackie Chan movie on the poll it should be Super Cop or Drunken Master.

Richard Maurer

Saying there are non-Asian martial arts movies is like saying there are non-US made westerns. While it's true, you would want to start the genre with the movies that created the genre, instead of movies that were inspired by them, especially in the case of martial arts movies, as the vast majority made outside Asia are inferior to the real thing.

Richard Maurer

There are not only Asian martial arts films. There are also other action films that are also listed in the subgenre as martial arts films.

Daniel Fuchs

That was my pick, but you're right. It is more of a Christmas movie.

Eddie Perkins

The hard truth is that classics, with very few exceptions, tend to do poorly on YT and Cassie can only do so many without hurting her channel (monetarily speaking). This is why I've mentioned only doing it once a year when asking for a Classic Horror poll. I mean I'd love it if she did it once a quarter but that's just not realistic. I do think putting classics in polls with more modern movies is a waste of both time and space (on the poll) as they never win. Putting them in their own polls is the only way a classic can win, and would be less frustrating for the people who want to see those movies. But four classic polls (of various genres) a year would probably be the most she could do, and even that might be too many.

Richard Maurer

If you really don't have much experience with a genre, maybe, instead of trying to change the poll to something you want, you could let the poll happen and give something new a try.

Richard Maurer

I am opposed to political censorship. If you are going to watch a classic movie, you should watch it as it was shown in the theatres.

Ted Little

With the 60th anniversary coming up, JFK would be a good one to watch. It is important to remember that the theories in it are easily disproven nonsense, but as a tale of one man's obsessive delusions it is very well made, with great acting and superb editing.

Dazman

FINALLY!!! A movie that i requested on PopcornRequests is winning and may actually be seen!! 😁😉

Audrey

T&D as a rom-com is a perfect analogy for Karate Kid as a martial arts film - both are primarily in other genres and only tangentially romantic comedy and martial arts films. Actual romance/martial arts fights make up only a small part of the films respective run times. Imagine Enter the Dragon with Bruce Lee only effectively fighting in the last few minutes of the film.

Richard Maurer

If you google "best martial arts movies" you'll notice something - a lack of US made movies. In particular, a lack of Karate Kid or Mortal Kombat. This is because no one takes either of these movies seriously in the realm of martial arts movies, and with good reason. My question for you is why do people feel the need to try to interject movies into theme polls with only a vague relationship to the theme? If we're having a theme poll shouldn't the movies in the poll reflect the best of the genre the poll is representing? This is my only concern, and I'm fully justified in my "moaning" about it as I want the see these films on the poll, not a bunch of watered down US films.

Richard Maurer

Chris Davis I think part of the reason for that is the younger generations likely grew up in a house with at least 2 tvs. Kids could watch whatever they wanted on a tv in another room, if not their OWN room..while the grown ups watched in the living room. Myself... we had 1 tv when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s. And when you're the youngest (by 10 years), you don't really get a say. You watch whatever everyone else is watching.

Bill W

Cole Jennett Cassie should see Burgess Meredith as the Penguin. That would really blow her mind.

Bill W

She'll be filming on her own island by then.

Bill W

william aaron sleeper. Ok. Those are the measures of "stellar". Third billing on a mediocre 90s tv show (should have gone with "Evil coach from Mighty Ducks), a character without a name, and The Great Hambino.

Bill W

I think it’s the grandparent’s that make it feel like a holiday movie. I also enjoy watching an asian dude using his spoon and fork like chopsticks. IDK, it just feels like a holiday movie.

Uncle Phoenix

I voted for Holiday Inn, but for some of you movies didnt exist prior to 1990

zynjams

Shop around the corner: yes but for Xmas!!

AC5555

I’m really not sure why you don’t think films with actors performing MA shouldn’t be classified as a MA film (like Karate Kid) because If you google Mortal Kombat it describes it as a Martial Arts/fantasy/action movie. Not sure if it’s just something else for you to moan about when or if they are going to be a few American films on the list.

Dean Holt

I recently watched Fortune Cookie for the first time. Had a fun time with it.

fish_thefilmcollector

She is going to love Grumpy Old Men, but I would also like To see her watch Dutch and Son In Law.

Joshua s. Jackson

"Yeah!..but it`s only got seven votes, so I don`t see Cassie picking to watch this before Thanksgiving."

Bridget

If you don’t like the movie that’s fine as it’s your opinion but not sure how you can class it as not a MA movie as it has it in the film and the final part is at a MA Tournament. Also I don’t see a issue describing Tucker & Dale as Rom-com yeah it’s not a conventional one but it is a comedy and part or the storyline has a bit of romance in it.

Dean Holt

A literal who's who

Bill Maurer

Sixteen Candles, the John Hughes movie? Nothing holiday about it. I think it takes place in early September. Is it just because the grandparents are at the house?

Bill W

Just occurred to me that Lemon and Matthau are both in that one too.

Bill W

Thank you. We used to have similar festivals, but they were usually in October. Now I get it. In November we celebrate a night with carved out turnips with candles in them, carried by children to 'ward against darkness', hence why I was confused about it.

Shanwyn Nightfox

Nice seeing some love for Hero, it's a great movie. But I don't think it stands a chance against Crouching Tiger or Enter the Dragon. Maybe in a future poll.

Richard Maurer

@ Daniel Fuchs - Google best martial arts movies. You'll find none of the movies you mentioned (except Ip Man and The Raid). People on patreon always try to subvert theme polls with their favorite vaguely theme but really non-theme movies. This is one of the most annoying things patrons do.

Richard Maurer

Richard i agree Blade, Rush Hour and Under Seige I would consider action flicks. Probably Hard Target and Eye For An Eye too. Also, it was American NINJA from 1985, not Fighter. (I really wouln't include that on a "best" list) Having said that, there needs to be a separation between American "martial arts" films and Asian.

Bill W

“Bacon! A whole damn plate!”

Cole Jennett

Agreed. I love movies from before I was born. And I was born in 1960. :)

Timothy Williams

The classics don't win when they're put on a poll with more recent movies. Especially the 90s. They need their own designated polls.

Bill W

These films are not just action films. Or do you think that fighting with fists in films also counts as an action film? Take a look at Google and enter martial arts films there. There you will also find the films that are listed here because they are not just action.

Daniel Fuchs

There's always that group that insists reactors watch every sequel, prequel, spinoff or other.. in a franchise.

Bill W

Love JFK. Incredible assortment of actors.

Bill W

Thanksgiving is a harvest festival. Some cities may have a parade or something like that, but mostly people just have a feast in their homes with family.

Bill W

It's $4.99 to be a PiB Youtube channel member. I understand its use for creators that don't have a Patreon account set up, but I'm not sure what the point is to have both.

Bill W

Thankfully Cassie's seen the Karate Kid. I say thankfully because Karate Kid is not a martial arts movie. That's like calling Tucker and Dale vs Evil a rom-com.

Richard Maurer

Those are all action movies, not martial arts movies. EDIT: except Ip Man and The Raid. didn't read past all the American non-martial arts movies.

Richard Maurer

Please let there not be any non Asian "martial arts" movies in poll. MK isn't even a real martial arts movie.

Richard Maurer

Subbed, I hope, but it depends on the movie. I don't think that a subbed version of Enter the Dragon exists, or at least is easily available. Crouching Tiger, on the other hand, should only be watched in the subtitled version. The dub for that one is not good.

Richard Maurer

Thank God she's seen it. And no one needs to see the K K sequels.

Richard Maurer

Excited for the martial arts poll. Hoping Ip Man is on there. And hopefully some Jackie Chan or Hero

Viet Ta

The Shop Around the Corner is a really fun classic movie. And it's fun to watch that, followed up by the remake You've Got Mail.

Kristin D

🤷‍♀️Hopefully "Holiday Inn" doesn't win! 😎

james flack

Pieces of April is such a beautiful time. I guess people are voting for the movies they are most familiar with so the low budget mumble core drama is never going to get up but anyone who wants to watch a heartfelt family drama should familiarise themselves with it.

Jacob King

Very funny! Ed O'Neil is so great. But it also has some moving scenes for the soul and mind. But the scene where Dutch have to sleep on that malfunctioning bed...

Jens Kristensen

Yes, but has she seen all Karate Kid sequels?

Shawn Kildal

I like that you saw what I did there ;)

David Collins

Maybe both Shop Around the Corner and Holiday Inn could be considered for December / Christmas?

Shawn Kildal

Especially the outtakes in 2nd film in the series with Burgess.

Shawn Kildal

Holiday Inn still can get some love here during the Christmas season hopefully. Personally, I think it's better than White Christmas.

Shawn Kildal

Love both of those movies and hope they will get watched at some point.

Shawn Kildal

Can't wait for Cassie to see Burgess Merideth (Mickey from the Rocky movies) again. He stole every scene he was in here.

Shawn Kildal

Ahhh ok makes sense then. I didn’t know YouTube charged for anything like that. I’d like to participate but my bank account says no 🙁

brooke atkins

Secretariat is one of the only movies I have higher then Grumpy Old Men on my personal request list, so I appreciate you referencing it, ha

Cole Jennett

You can only see it if your a popcorn in bed channel member, not just a YouTube member. The poll is just a perk for those that pay for the subscription😊

Cole Jennett

If she watches a asian martial arts movie will it be a subtitled version or one of those poorly dubbed ones?

Hiraoka Toru

Where is this YouTube poll? I don’t see it anywhere.

brooke atkins

She has mentioned before she’s seen karate kid. So I think you’re safe lol

brooke atkins

Now I can only ask for a Classic Horror poll. Then again, depending on what's on the martial arts poll, I may have to go back to asking for an ASIAN martial arts poll.

Richard Maurer

Please, please don't let Karate Kid be on the martial arts poll. It's not a martial arts movie, and it would literally break my heart if it won (well, not literally, but it would really suck).

Richard Maurer

Another fun and unique heist movie - Going My Way. Maybe combine. With Cocoon for Senior Citizen Week.

2-Can

60th anniversary of JFK’s assassination. Maybe “JFK” should be on the watchlist

Bill Maurer

If you want to watch Lemmon and Matthau at their best - an old classic would be Fortune Cookie. As most people know they were best buddies in real life. The odd couple with those two was also very good.

John Liebling

Looking like Grumpy Old Men in a Secretariat-like breakaway. No complaints here. While Grumpy Old Men is well known to be Matthau and Lemon, who have one-of-a-kind synergy on the screen, it should be stated that Burgess Meredith plays no small part in making this movie truly epic. The older I get, the more spectacular Ann Margret gets. I thought she was a fascinatingly attractive older lady when I was in my 20s. Now in my 50s, she's just plain fascinatingly attractive. The rest of the cast is amazing and star studded as well. Cassie is going to love it. I really, really hope she brings Carly along!! She will love this movie too!

David Collins

Burgess Meredith in top form

Cole Jennett

Shop around the corner and Holiday Inn are the best on the list. Thy younger folks might not know that...The winner so far Grumpy Old Men is by far the worst of the list...But heck, all this is bast on everyone's opinion. So whatever Cassie watches will be another great reaction.

John Liebling

Disappointed that Shop Around the Corner isn't getting the love. A great Jimmy Stewart romcom, good enough to earn a remake in the 90's, "You've Got Mail", with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan...

barnabas

I have voted for Grumpy Old Men which is a great comedy film, featuring two amazing actors (Lemmon & Matthau) who always worked well together. Personally for me, my other likely choice would have been Shop Around The Corner. However, I see it as a great Xmas film due to it`s setting & featuring Xmas sales. It is in it`s late 1990`s relocated remake, that thanksgiving makes an appearance. It`s a 2nd great Xmas film for James Stewart, ably assisted by Margaret Sullavan, Frank Morgan & the wider cast.

Long-time Sci-Fi Enthusiast

Dutch is Hilarious.

Ken Thurman

Did this lovely lady known simply as "Cassie" say there is going to be a Martial Arts movie poll?

Todzilla

Love this group of movies. Grumpy Old Men is so great and like Shanwyn said, it’s timeless/universal.

Rich Evenhouse

Time for me to rewatch the trailer of Grumpy old men, it sounds familiar. I’m waiting to watch your reaction if it wins, because I think it’s a good one.

FranciscoGios

Grumpy old men it is... I love that movie.

Moe howard

Definitely! Very much a must-watch for the season.

China Andronicus

I'll never understand the Thanksgiving since, well, European, but Grumpy old men is universal. I think everyone knows someone like them, hihi. So it has my vote. Plus I am sure you'll love it

Shanwyn Nightfox

A true Thanksgiving movie, too. Not too many of those around.

S M

Such an underappreciated gem! Jodie Foster did a great job directing an all-star cast. Should be required for anyone with a family. Tradition at our house.

S M

For a heist film, QUICK CHANGE with Bill Murray and Geena Davis

Steve Colletti

Holiday inn does, White Christmas does not.

Jon

Inside Man is a heist movie, a Denzel movie, a Jodie movie, a Willem movie...

Bert Towle

Only one on this poll I've seen is Grumpy Old Men which was good

James1035

Should be..."White Christmas does have a..."

Bert Towle

Haha, other than Grumpy Old Men which I saw a little of as a kid but was too young to really like at the time this poll is a mix of not great, barely remember, and too old to have heard of for me.

YodatheHobbit

Dutch is a great Thanksgiving movie.

Kevin Hooper

He's not wrong Steven Spielberg upon seeing Son-in-Law briefly contemplated not making movies because it was seen as just too good. "Who is gonna like this Jurassic Park shit I'm making," he said to his wife? #FakeMovieFacts

ContrabandDonut

For a Heist movie, A Fish Called Wanda is a post-heist story. Kevin Kline won an Oscar for best supporting actor (v. unusual for a comedy). Quick Change should also be a contender.

2-Can

Come on, Son in Law! "Ooh, I'm all outta vodka!"

Jacob Colson

Doesn't anyone watch classics anymore? OBVIOUSLY this should be Holiday Inn or Shop Around the Corner. 😜

Timothy Williams

Wow! I have heard of none of these film. Anyone want to buy my vote for their favourite? I’m not expensive. Make me an offer….

Don

@Chris Davis same here. I came across it on tv one weekend afternoon. Couldn't turn it off. But we all knew the predictable movie would win by a landslide. Never cared for it.. just corny and the schtick gets old after about 30 minutes.

Bill W

I liked it when I was 19..when it was released. Pauly Shore movies don't really hold up for me anymore although I like Patrick Renna (The Great Hambino) and the gorgeous Carla Gugino.

Bill W

haha - I had to read that again "burps"....lol

KJ

Grumpy Old Men is right up your alley, Cassie. That movie was made for you. I hope it wins.

Raven Dark

I love the kid that was the bat catcher in The Sandlot.

Cole Jennett

The Heist Poll has already been set. I’d have liked to see Entrapment on it as well, but there were so many to pick from, I don’t think anyone can ever be totally satisfied.

Cole Jennett

Arsenic and Old Lace? Yuck.

KJ

Too bad that the polls are low for Holiday Inn. If you loved White Christmas, you will definitely love Holiday Inn. If you do watch it, do so with your sister.

3dbadboy1

Thank you for that info, Larry. At least she is hearing this from several different people.

Mike LL

When I sent my Trivia List, I told Cassie, if she put it to a Poll, the recent Top 3 would completely beat out the 2 Classics. Which I was ok with, because the Top 3 was my Top 3 anyways. I was really just trying to peak her interest in the 30s and 40s films, and I told her the only way these films would win in a Poll, is if she did a Classics Poll. I’m still hoping she does this one day. I like keeping them decade separated too. 30s, 40s, 50s. Once a month would be awesome, to start, and see how it goes. I still don’t think she has seen enough to get a good hook on her. I think she could get hooked, especially on the Romantics. For Christmas this year, We definitely need just a Classic Christmas Poll. Maybe Two… or Three. There are so many more Classic Christmas Greats than recent ones.

Larry Darrell

That guy wants March of the Wooden Soldiers. I guess anything in color after 1940 is a waste of time. LOL

KJ

You’re crazy. It’s so funny and heartwarming. It’s a massive fan favorite.

Michael Lynch

Okkkkkk… how about Lane Smith- Perry White on the old Lois&Clark show as well as over a hundred other TV/film appear., Cindy Pickett- the mom in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Patrick Renna of the Sandlot and probably Another dozen family comedies, and of course ❤️ Tiffani Amber Thiessen

william aaron sleeper

Does anyone else consider “16 Candles” a holiday movie? I now it shouldn’t be; but it definitely FEELS like a holiday movie.

Uncle Phoenix

And that great Rusted Root cover Evil Ways

Kristen

Just Plain Bob

Nothing burbs better than bacon

Kristen

Little known fact: the 1998 Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan romcom, You've Got Mail (1998) is a remake of Shop Around the Corner (1940). I remember when Tom Hanks was interviewed on BBC Scene by Scene in 2001 he was shown a clip from each film and their similarities in dialogue and plot.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

I love Son in Law so much! Random quotes from that movie pop into my head too often! Spectacular quarter’s me matey! Stephen Tyler PJ’s!

Kristen

its horrible, thats why.

zynjams

Well the way I look at it is, in a couple years when all the predictable movies have been watched, I'll win more 😂 so just keep voting!

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

And now I have that song by Chingy stuck in my head (Holidae Inn).

Above Average Dave

I like Holiday Inn, but White Christmas is almost a copy of it (differences here and there, same general premise). Of course no Fred Astair in White Christmas, but White Christmas does not have a "blackface" scene, which will definitely be considered offensive to today's audience. I never understood the appeal of The Shop Around the Corner, I find it incredibly depressing.

Jon

I can’t believe it’s not 80% grumpy old men

Michael Lynch

My bad, it was just The Usual Suspects and a Few Good Men. It was just talk recently about The Whole Nine Yards that had me thinking there were more.

Cole Jennett

I have to agree with Mike. Too many folks will push for stuff they grew up with, never including things that their parents or grandparents grew up with. I would love to have Cassie see "The Thin Man", even if just the first move and not the whole series.

Chris Davis

I did as well. It's not a popular movie, clearly, and I'm not even sure it's a "Good" movie by critics' standards, but when I came across it playing on TV, I couldn't stop watching. It was heartful and compelling, to say the least!

Chris Davis

I picked the loser, Pieces of April. But I stand by it.

Scott burch

Cassie I remember that you mentioned The Shop Around the Corner during the last Butter live and I had high hopes that you would just watch that movie this holiday season. I still hope that you do. It really pains me to see this get shot down in this poll as Arsenic and Old Lace got shot down on the last Halloween Lite poll. It just doesn't make sense to put these classic movies against any modern movies because the classic movies lose every single time. Remember that Vertigo came in almost last in the Investigation Poll so long ago but you loved that movie when you did see it. It seems like we need another Classic Movie poll to get another one seen. We will never see Bringing Up Baby, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, It Happened One Night, Arsenic and Old Lace, or The Phiadelphia Story without a Classics Poll. When I had some input on Discord and gave you advice on the creation of the Chaos Classics Bracket I made a mistake when I advised you to take a random selection of the most suggested old movies and seed them in the bracket. I now think the idea you floated about having separate 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's brackets would have been better, because the most popular of the movies from that bracket seemed to be the 60's movies like the winner The Great Escape and Butch Cassidy. That's right folks, I've had this guilt for a long time that it is all my fault that a 30's movie has never been seen from that bracket, even though she has since seen 7 movies from that bracket here on the channel. I do think we need a 30's movie poll and a separate 40's movie poll so we finally have a shot at seeing a Bringing Up Baby or one of the other beloved classics.

Mike LL

Under Siege and Rush Hour has a chance but the others by the title alone are too silly to keep her attention. Let's consider Delta Force for a Chuck Norris action flick. At least the intrigue could keep her interested.

KJ

Not the best poll for me. Son in Law is the only movie I recognise, but I doubt that’ll win. Oh well!

Luke Godfrey

What else has he been in that she's reacted to besides A Few Good Men?

Bill W

Ernst Lubitsch is a whole rabbit hole to go down, and he made such stylish comedies. I want Cassie to see Trouble in Paradise and Ninotchka.

Mike LL

Dutch is a fun movie - Ed O'Neill is great. It's a sleeper because it's a John Hughes film and no Brat Packers in it. But it's a fun story nonetheless. MORE reactions with Carly! She's smart, fun and always brings a great viewpoint when watching with Cassie.

KJ

I like it too but it will never win a poll around here. The winners are always predictable.

Bill W

Shop around the corner is a sweet film with Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan and even better directed by the master Ernst Lubitsch

Sp3lly

"Stellar" by what standards?

Bill W

I would SOOOO much rather see the Odd Couple than Grumpy Old Men.

Bill W

Brian's Song (1971) Gotta have some football on Thankgsiving.

Bill W

I'd vote for everything EXCEPT Grumpy Old Men.

Bill W

Son in law is definitely a good one

Steve Slayman

Well, that is splendid news. I am giving thanks.

Henry Graham

GRUMPY OLD MEN is basically the Odd Couple as the "Old Couple."

Stick Figure Studios

No you’re not.

zynjams

March of the Wooden Soldiers.

thomas king

As an added bonus. If grumpy old men does win. Definitely watch the outtakes and record them. They are just as good as the movie

Steve Slayman

Love the old classics. I'm a huge Jimmy Stewart fan. I was hoping for shop around the corner.

James Sweeney

My sentiments exactly. I hope that this movie inspires Cassie to watch THE ODD COUPLE in the near future.

Mark Vaderr

It will be a surprise for sure, but it's not going to win,I'm not kidding Cole I had my heart set on Cassie Watching HAHS..C&C would take away so much from that movie..go through a box of tissues in two hours, not just in her wheelhouse it is the wheel of thanksgiving movies..

Celeste McAllister

Cassie has committed to watching DOG DAY AFTERNOON. Maybe sometime this month.

Mark Vaderr

Grumpy Old Men is stupid. Clearly I’m in the minority. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Michael Weiner

Grumpy Old Men is amazing! I hope it wins. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll LOVE it!

Chris

Oh Cassie, how I wish that you would've watched the great comedy, THE ODD COUPLE first. It is the perfect segue to GRUMPY OLD MEN. Oh well, I'm sure that you'll fall in love with Jack Lemmon & Walter Matthau in this movie and I hope it will inspire you to watch THE ODD COUPLE in the near future. I also concur with other people, that having Carly watch this with you, would be perfect.

Mark Vaderr

Give it a chance @Celeste, you might be surprised how it plays for you as an adult😊

Cole Jennett

Sorry not sure what you mean with that.

Dean Holt

I know, but I still think it would be better is she watched THE ODD COUPLE first (also because I just think it's the better movie), but I'm probably in the minority on this one and am doubtful it will work out that way. Oh, well. :-/

Stick Figure Studios

The best Martial Arts movies: Hard target (1993), AN Eye for an Eye (1981), Ninja-Shadow of a Tear (2013), Under Siege (1992), Rush Hour (1998), Blade (1998), American Fighter (1985), The Raid, IP-Men,

Daniel Fuchs

Don’t sleep on The Karate Kid.

Uncle Phoenix

Can we do a write-in for Stepmom? It's getting a lot of support in the comments and its an incredible family/holiday movie.

Story Archer

Get it on a poll, along with 'Mommy Dearest'

Celeste McAllister

Son in Law is an underrated comedy movie.

G

I’m not sure why you think a Thanksgiving movie being on a Thanksgiving poll is a joke. I get it if it’s just an aversion to Pauly Shore, as I’m not a fan of anything he’s done besides this and Encino Man. He’s not for everyone😂. As a male, I can see how he wouldn’t be an ideal leading man, ha ha. I’m interested to see how much he grows on Cassie as the movie goes on.

Cole Jennett

Don’t sleep on Stepmom.

Uncle Phoenix

Honestly, haven't seen it in like 20 years.

Labcurmudgeon79

Yeah, I really think that Cass and Carr would love "Sneakers."

Uncle Phoenix

Thelma and Louise 1991

Randolph Tirazona

Shop Around the Corner is fantastic and the model for so many other film stories in this genre. The original is the best - fantastic performances.

TXW

I'd love to rant over SIL but,I thought it was a joke being on the thanksgiving poll..

Celeste McAllister

Fantastic mr fox could be a Thanksgiving film has alot of fall themes to it

MatthewBrown74m

Had hopes for Dutch, but I’ll take Grumpy Old Men.

Larry Darrell

It’s not a good movie but I don’t care cause it’s hilarious. Although it does have a lot of 90’s humor that I don’t think Cassie will get cause she was too young at the time.

brooke atkins

Grumpy Old Men was my introduction to Lemmon and Matthau. It was years later when I saw The Odd Couple. I think she’ll be alright on this one. Some things I feel need to go in the Proper order, such as James Bond. But also some things can work going in reverse.

Larry Darrell

'Sweet November' & 'Hannah and her Sisters' are adult movies of a higher level of just about everything to do with film making..

Celeste McAllister

I like Shop Around the Corner but put that in your Christmas pile because Grumpy Old Men is just so funny and good. You're gonna love it.

Jennifer Medicus

This could be fun as I’ve not seen any of them before and I’m always up for watching something new. Looking forward to the Martial Arts movies as I grow up watching loads of them I even remember having some PJ’s that looked like a karate outfit. But you can definitely go down a huge rabbit hole with these movies from the Bruce Lee & Jackie Chan classics like Enter the Dragon & The Drunken Master films, to the Hollywood made movies like The Karate Kid, Best of the Best & Kickboxer. To the more modern films with Jet Li (the bad guy from LW4) Donnie Yen & Chow Yun-Fat (even though he started making movies like Jackie Chan in the 70s).

Dean Holt

Son in Law is a Thanksgiving movie, and I believe she will enjoy it.

Cole Jennett

StepMom is a great one!

Randolph Tirazona

Kevin Pollack who’s been in tons of movies she’s reacted to

Cole Jennett

First thing I thought of for a thanksgiving movie was Dutch. Obviously GOM should and will win this poll so I’ll go with my gut and vote for Dutch just to give it some representation.

Mark Daniels

It’s still a good movie as an adult, at least for me it is🤷‍♂️

Cole Jennett

Trying to figure how to manifest Home for the Holidays into a lead, I need to find some wish bones to break

Morgan A. Colbert

Son in Law is not a good movie, but I loved it as a teen. Nostalgic for me. Pauly Shore is a weeeeeaaass-aall!

Labcurmudgeon79

Grumpy Old Men was the first movie I took a girl to when I was 13 😂😂🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️😂

Omar

For the Heist poll 'Bonnie & Clyde' 1967..'Raising Arizona' 1987 'Some like it Hot' 1959 'To Catch a Thief' 1955⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Celeste McAllister

Pieces of April! I feel that movie in my core every time I watch it.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Whole cast is amazing, including the children. A must-watch.

Story Archer

Also, Hey Turkeys is right. These are all.

AdrianF

Shop Around the Corner is the one I think you'd enjoy the most. Grumpy Old Men will be fun though.

JayF

Stepmom is an amazing movie. Cassie and Carly would love it. I totally forgot part of it takes place at Xmas. Don’t sleep on this movie Cassie. It’s one of Julia Roberts best.

brooke atkins

Lean month for me

AdrianF

Voting on this but continuing to push for Stepmom for the holidays. I couldn't find it on Cassie's 'viewed' list and it is an absolute must watch for both Cassie and Carli, especially during the holidays!

Story Archer

I voted for The Shop Around the Corner although it's more a Christmas movie than Thanksgiving and stars a very young James Stewart and a film I think you'd love.

Robert Jewell

Don't sleep on Dutch.

Matt Jamison

"Hannah and Her Sisters" takes place on three consecutive Thanksgivings, with an ending you will LOVE!

Above Average Dave

Please let the martial arts movie be the original Mortal Kombat and not the God awful 2021 remake.

William Bryan

Watch "Grumpy Old Men" with Carly. Heartwarming dramady (drama/comedy). If possible after watch "Grumpier Old Men" with Carly too. 🤓😁😎

Santos Carrillo

"Grump Old Men" is relatable and sweet and fun and dramatic and well acted and has two love interests! With a cast like Ossie Davis and Ann Margret and Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau and Burgess Meredith and Daryl Hannah and Buck Henry (did I forget anyone?) how could you top it?

Ronald Carpenter

Have the heist movie options already been decided, Cassie? I'd like to throw Dog Day Afternoon (1975), Sexy Beast (2000) and The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) into the hat.

Henry Graham

'Hannah and her Sisters' didn't make the poll, yet 'Son in Law' did? I for one am disappointed! Make up for that with a Sisters reaction for 'Grumpy Old Men' Por Favor!

Celeste McAllister

Definitely 2 really good movies I think she will enjoy. But I’ll still watch whatever wins.

brooke atkins

I'm one of those guys who thinks that GRUMPY OLD MEN is a much more satisfying viewing experience if you've seen the original 1968 ODD COUPLE with Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon since it is a sort of spiritual sequel with both actors doing a variation on their characters/relationship from the earlier film. I did want you to watch GRUMPY OLD MEN, but I was hoping you'd watch it after THE ODD COUPLE (which is, of course, an utterly hilarious and worthwhile film in its own right).

Stick Figure Studios

SNEAKERS absolutely.

Matt Rose

Some good ones in there. SHOP AROUND THE CORNER, GRUMPY OLD MEN (and the sequel), and HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS are all worth watching for sure.

Matt Rose

I think it might win. These are all pretty good movies. But I agree with the consensus so far. Grumpy Old Men and Son in Law will make the best reaction videos.

JohnB

Yes carly would love this one.

brooke atkins

Agreed!

Cole Jennett

grumpy 1 and 2! lol

Dana Regan

The Shop Around the Corner is the best film here but it is most definitely a Christmas movie rather than a Thanksgiving movie. It seems that once more my suggestions (The New World and Hannah and Her Sisters) fell on deaf ears. My avatar is a picture of me shouting into the void.

Henry Graham

Oh come on people, Son-in-law is a great thanksgiving film with a stellar cast. Also probably Paula Shore’s best film (I know, not a high bar to clear).

william aaron sleeper

Whether it wins or not, Cassie’s gotta see Shop Around the Corner. It’s an absolute holiday classic starring Jimmy Stewart. As for the heist poll, I pray it includes The Score (with Robert DeNiro and Edward Norton) and Sneakers (Robert Redford and Sidney Poitier).

Just Plain Bob

Gotta watch grumpy old men if it wins with Carly!! Hands down!

Steve Slayman

Home For The Holidays is amazing and honestly one of my very favorite RDJ performances. Also one of Jodie Foster’s first directing jobs. It needs a lot more love.

China Andronicus

No question - that was the easiest poll ever! Matthau/Lemmon FTW!

Mike H

Grumpy old man has 2 actors I love and respect so much I bring them back if I could

MatthewBrown74m

I’d love you to do Son in Law which is more of a Thanksgiving movie if I remember correctly, but I can’t pass up the chance of you watching Grumpy Old Men

Cole Jennett

Thanks for listening Cassie and putting grumpy old men on the poll. Even if it doesn’t win I hope you’ll watch it someday. Don’t really know any of these other movies except son in law which is hilarious. But i still gotta go with grumpy old men.

brooke atkins

Grumpy old men easily

Michael Lynch

For me it's a tossup between Dutch and Grumpy Old Men!
