Backdraft (1991) - Full Reaction

This was more emotional than I thought it would be, they really stuck that dagger in my heart. It was so great seeing Kurt Russell, I need to know how accurate some of the fire stuff was. PiB loves firefighters!! Hope you enjoy the reaction!

Backdraft (1991) - Full Reaction

Comments

Used to be a firefighter. A backdraft is somewhat difficult to understand for those who are not in the fire service. It's a deep seated fire with poor ventilation and is small. You open a door and the fire gets the oxygen that it needs to sustain and can create a fireball "backdraft" When they say "It's going to flash on us" every firefighter fears this. It is short for a Flashover. Flashover is when everything in the room suddenly ignites at a certain temperature. It is mostly non-survivable even with turnout gear and masks. During a flashover, the masks can actually start to melt. It's funny in firefighting movies their masks are specially designed this way you can see the actor's face. When in reality. the mask covers your nose and mouth and it is pressed against your face and can get uncomfortable, but it will safe your life. The tanks that firefighters breathe is just normal atmospheric air, it is not pure oxygen which is a misconception. We can fill them up using an air compressor, these compressors are specially designed with filters on them as well, as to not let in bad stuff. The tanks mainly aren't metal anymore, but they used to be. Modern ones are like carbon fiber I think. They are lighter. Modern air packs "SCBA" (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus) are required to have a PASS alarm. It's a very loud alarm that sounds if you are not moving. It has different stages of pre-alert. In full alert stage, it can only be turned off by pressing a button on your shoulder strap. it's not a good thing to hear, it usually means there is a down firefighter. It will sound until it is turned off or the batteries die.

Colin Davis

I'm a little late to the show here, but I enjoyed both of your reactions to this movie. I'm a retired firefighter and this was the first big blockbuster I've seen where the firefighters are the main focus of the story. Though the fire scenes have Hollywood's fingerprints all over them, and apparently the firefighters are allergic to SCBA (breathing air) masks 😀; I thoroughly enjoyed the movie for honoring the fire service. I know several people have already mentioned it, but if you want a movie that goes deeper into the life and career of a firefighter, I highly recommend Ladder 49.

Fanchman

I haven't seen this film since the 90's, I remember the special effects work was a big deal when it came out, which has certainly helped this age very well. Cracking film.

Stephen

Alec Baldwin was in The Hunt for Red October. And as you indicate, so was Scott Glenn (commander of the USS Dallas). Scott Glenn had a minor role in Apocalypse Now in which he was a lieutenant in Vietnam who states in letter to his wife: "Sell the house. Sell the car. Sell the kids. Find someone else. Forget it. I'm never coming back. Forget it."

Clay F

If you recall, Scott Glenn (Axe in Backdraft) was the commander of the USS Dallas in The Hunt for Red October. Scott Glenn had a minor role in Apocalypse Now in which he was a lieutenant in Vietnam who states in letter to his wife: "Sell the house. Sell the car. Sell the kids. Find someone else. Forget it. I'm never coming back. Forget it."

Clay F

The potenial "flash" he mentioned was apparently the vaporization of liqid water into steam (water vapor). When I was young, for movies, I was entertained by realism (whether sad or happy ending). Now in my older age, I am not enterained by sad endings, but instead happy endings even if unrealistic, corny, or cliche. Recommended Kurt Russel movie: ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (1981) Recommended Ron Howard directed movie: FROST/NIXON (2008). Stunning movie. Rotten Tomatoes = 93%.

Clay F

I don't think Stephen needed to die to make the movie more emotional, but I do think--considering that both of these guys spend the whole movie needing a kick in the butt to get them to actually talk and handle their emotional crap--his death makes a good point about what men risk losing when they act as though they have endless time to fix their relationships. You never know what's going to happen next. Say what you need to say while you have a chance to say it.

Mitch M

There was a case in California where the arson investigator was the arsonist.

Sarah H.

I will argue to the end of days that Steven's death was not needed to add the emotional weight of this movie.

Timothy Burrows

Watching this reminds me of two others, Blown Away with Jef Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones that focuses on the bomb squad and Frequency with Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel that involves fire fighters, cops, a mystery, and a little science fiction to bring it all together.

HercEl

As I’m likely one of the world’s only humans who’s seen it, I’ll be the one to tell Cassie there’s a BACKDRAFT 2, released direct to video in 2019. Sean McCaffrey, Steven’s son, has grown up to be an arson investigator who gets embroiled (heh) in a big case. William Baldwin (Brian) and Donald Sutherland (Ronald) return from the first movie. It’s decidedly a B movie, but if you liked the characters and subject matter of the original, BACKDRAFT 2 is not without value.

Jason Chirevas

The original RANSOM from 1956 with Glenn Ford and Donna Reed is, not surprisingly, better.

Jason Chirevas

All true! But more importantly, Cassie should watch SILVERADO...

Walter

RANSOM would make for a terrific reaction.

Stick Figure Studios

And he was Alan Shepard in THE RIGHT STUFF

Stick Figure Studios

Backdraft was a movie I wish I liked more. Especially being a huge Kurt Russell fan.

Shawn Kildal

Carly did see a Kurt Russell movie with you but it was Tombstone.

Shawn Kildal

This movie is better than I remember. Some of the fire effects/sequences look impossible without CGI but CGI fire hadn't been nearly good looking enough back then here in 1991, so man it must've all been super tough stunt guys doing it for real. No clue how they were able to control how to fire behaved in the film to such a degree. I hadn't seen it in widescreen yet before now too, looks great.

Still the best use of the music from backdraft https://youtu.be/QnykfHMO1x4?si=P8oA0V_ihO9tI3Y4

and last........ I'm a big movie fan, but I'm 52..........the interesting thing when I rewatch older movies esp those I saw in the theater or younger is how different I think about them esp due to age and life exp...........I was 19 when it came out but now I'm older than most of the cast at the time.............

christopher b swanson

I am from Chicago and adore my city, this is my of favorite Chicago based movie, and have not seen this in years I'm glad I watched it all............the best part is that it was made in 1991 and not now ..........then its all practical and you can tell.......... today they would use green screen and cgi that wouldn't look as good..............

christopher b swanson

Ladder 49 for sure and I would also recommend The Guardian for some coastguard action.

Robert C

You need to add the following First Responder Films to your List Cass: 1) World Trade Center 2) Ladder 49 3) Patriots Day 4) Only the Brave

Brandon Dague

Typos haven on those, still love em lol 😛 ugh.

Michael J

Wasn't a park like Orlandos is cool!! Two HP parks there full deal real coasters etc. But LAs was kind of a park / just studio. So yea Brother in Law was Fox movie division there, so that lot was just lot. And me and a HS X did that..... But a few times went to Universal to. Both Universals had a Twister thing at once. But it was Backdraft when I was tiny, pre GF visits!!!! So way back. Remember real flames hot as heck.

Michael J

Remember when this was the Universal LA lot ride before Twister, and Twister is old!!! Brother-in-Law was at Fox then so..

Michael J

She was almost unrecognizable in Identity as a redhead. I doubt Cassie will make the connection when she see’s either of these movies. I didn’t realize it was her until the end credits of Identity

Cole Jennett

Forgot to mention that, Yes! I was thinking of this during the movie.

Larry Darrell

The next fire fighting movies you have to watch are Ladder 49 and Only the Brave

vito virgilio

'The Towering Inferno' Paul Newman & Steve McQueen, director Irwin Allen received firefighters Helmuts from firemen around the world..

Celeste McAllister

Rebecca De Mornay is also in 'Risky Business' with baby Tom Cruise..

Celeste McAllister

Oh and one other thing I forgot to mention, given what you two said about quotes or phrases you hear that trigger a movie you can't resist thinking of! Every time I hear the word "Gentlemen" I cannot help but think of The Three Stooges, one of their running gags that never gets old that makes me laugh every time is when someone identifies the stooges as gentlemen, they respond every time by saying "who came in?" and turn to look over their shoulders, it's such a hilarious running gag that even my buddies and I do it every time someone calls us gentlemen LOL🤣🤣🤣 Anyway, just thought I'd bring that up since I forgot to mention it lol! Oh and Cassie, Carly did not watch OVERBOARD with you, but you two did watch TOMBSTONE together, that has Kurt Russell😁

Wesley White

“Welcome to Elyria!” I’m slightly embarrassed to say I know exactly what Carly’s talking about 😂 Brian was played by Billy Baldwin. One of the Baldwin brothers. The most famous of which is Alec. They were the 90’s equivalent of the Hemsworth brothers 😉

Robert da Spruce

The movie that everyone forgets, though they shouldn't is "Best of Times" with Robin Williams...A fantastic 80's movie that I highly recommend!!

Chris Davis

I loved the music in Backdraft so much, I bought the soundtrack with my 16th birthday money. As I said previously, I always thought this movie was more about Brothers than about fire.

Chris Davis

William Baldwin is pretty much famous for being a Baldwin, he has done a lot of movies over the years, and Scott Glenn is also a great character actor, famous for stuff like 'The Silence of the Lambs', 'The Hunt for Red October', 'Daredevil', not a leading man, just a great character actor.

JPDotCom23

100% agree on BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA and CAPTAIN RON!

Steve Colletti

Men of Honor is a Great Movie.

Eddie Perkins

Never forget THE COMPUTER WHO WORE TENNIS SHOES!!

Above Average Dave

Ron Howard has far more misses than hits as a director.

Mark Vaderr

"Look at him! That's my brother Goddammit!" ~ Lt. Stephen McCaffery In the end, Brian HAD to be a fire fighter! "Steven doesn't know, that Axe knows, that Brian knows!" Now that is Great Cassie Commentary!

Terry Yelmene

Firefighter movie? Well how about THE TOWERING INFERNO, which lost in the Natural Disaster movie poll, which is a great firefighter movie and a disaster movie to boot, with Steve McQueen and Paul Newman, et all, no less.

Mike LL

It was beyond ridiculous, but you know, Hollywood. Gosh, Ron Howard?

Mike LL

Only The Brave is so slept on but it's such a great movie, based on a true story too

Odd Thomas

I saw this movie when it came out in theaters in 1991, not knowing I would end up marrying a Firefighter/EMT, just 3 years later! With everything that happened with the terrorist attacks on 9-11-01, I was inspired to become an EMT myself! I get to see firsthand what firefighters do! Ron Howard did such a great job with this movie. He insisted all of the fire scenes be real, and cast several actors who were also firefighters in real life. In the funeral scene, there is a march of firefighters behind the fire engines carrying the two caskets. All of the extras in that scene were real firefighters wearing their real dress uniforms. Ron wanted this movie to be as authentic as possible. There are many families where being a firefighter is handed down from one generation to the next... even if someone has died on the job. It's a calling for them. One of my husband's co-workers died on duty... his daughter is now working in his place. They even gave her the shield from her dad's helmet with his name and badge number on it, to wear on her own helmet. At the end of the movie, it shows that there are 1.2 million firefighters in the US... but that was in 1991! I wonder how many there are now??? GREAT MOVIE PICK! I know it's hard to watch a movie like this, but our firefighters go through so much. It's so nice when a person like Ron Howard pulls together an incredible movie like this.... because the whole fire/rescue service is INCREDIBLE!

fire12wife

Let's not.

Celeste McAllister

Scott Glenn is also Captain Bart Mancuso in "The Hunt For Red October" which is a great movie that also has a reaction on the channel. It also contains Billy Baldwin's brother Alec as Jack Ryan.

Mojo One Thousand

WOOO!!!! That was awesome, so worth staying up till 3:30 in the morning, you know I will admit as I was starting to watch this movie I did think to myself how your feelings would be at the beginning of this movie and at the end, and I was pretty much right on the money on that lol! I am really glad you and Carly liked this movie despite the heavy emotions this movie brings out! This is one of my all time favorite movies growing up as a kid, and it's in my top 100 favorite movies of all time! At one time, thanks to this movie, I was inspired to want to become a firefighter, but when I eventually found out I had asthma, being around smoke wasn't a good idea lol🙄 You know it's funny, until somewhat recently, all these years I've watched this movie, I had no idea that Kurt Russell was the Dad at the beginning, that shocked the heck out of me, who knew he could play multiple characters if he needed to lol! I have to say Cassie, you really impressed me with how you forshadowed certain scenes that were coming up before they even happened, you've sure come a long way since you started this channel and watching movies [tears of joy🥺] makes me so proud lol🤣 Gee-wiz Cassie, did you forget you and Carly watched Kurt Russell together in TOMBSTONE, he was Wyatt Earp lol! To help identify some of the actors in this movie, like William Baldwin (Brian) and Donald Sutherland (Ronald) and to help shed some light on what a backdraft really is, and a little funny story involving me and this movie lol! William Baldwin is one of the Baldwin brothers so yes he's related to Alec Baldwin (Beetlejuice, The Hunt for Red October), as for Donald Sutherland, he's been in a lot of movies, but you'd be surprised to know that he's Kiefer Sutherland's Dad! I'm guessing you probably didn't know this, but the actor playing the doctor in the morgue is Clint Howard, Ron Howard's brother! What is a backdraft exactly? Well, besides being called a backdraft it's also known as a backdraught, to put is simply it's a fire that has burned all the oxygen in an enclosed space with no ventilation for the fire to get out, once an open ventilation is made and the fire gets out, you have a backdraft! One thing that I like about this movie that make it so unique, metaphorically, they treat the fire like as if it's like a some kind of living monster, hense why they keep calling it "the animal" lol! I remember when I was a kid playing in the back yard of the house with a garden hose, I was running around like crazy pretending I was putting out a fire! I remember renacting that scene when Kurt Russell goes in that buring apartment to go and rescue the kid and Axe comes in up the stairs with the fire hose spraying away the fire, I was pretending I was putting out that fire around the sliding door frame in the back yard, thank goodness I had the sliding door closed or else my dad would have went on a rage with me, oh the memories as a kid lol🤣 Great reaction Cassie as always, sorry for this long text of a comment, but hey I said I was going to do it after the reaction and I always keep my word lol! Forgive me for saying this, but I'm sorry that his movie hurt your feelings, but this is the reality of being a firefighter, you do a job that puts your life on the line every day when putting out a fire and saving peoples lives, that's why I always honor and respect all firefighters! After such an emotional movie like this, you and Carly totally need to react to IRON WILL, perhaps make it your pick of the month of December....please🥺🙏lol😂 Still, this was totally worth staying up late for lol! Love and support always, you & Carly are the best! [virtual hug🤗] God bless you, Carly and your family! And as always [snaps fingers & winks] stay classy Cassie🥰😁😉😇🙏👍🌹

Wesley White

Sweet! A movie that's easy for me to rewatch on Netflix!

YodatheHobbit

I watched the full length film along with the two of you. I enjoy it, I actually remember the first time I saw it was as a kid in 1993 on the NBC network television premiere. Those were big events back in the day. Good reaction. No tears! I was impressed. - Mike the Ginger

Mike the Ginger

what is backdraft

its2clout

As a career firefighter, I absolutely despise this movie.

Andy Bodkin

Axe was also Clarice Starling's boss in Silence of the Lambs. He is one of the leads of Silverado - a Western that also stars Kevin Costner, Kevin Kline, and Danny Glover (Murtaugh from Lethal Weapon). You know, in case you want to watch that...

Walter

This movie is just overblown. A Ron Howard misfire, which he's had his share of.

Mark Vaderr

The "fire stuff", Cassie, is pure Grade AAA, 100% Hollywood fictionalization.

Mark Vaderr

One thing I always forget is how amazing the sets are in BACKDRAFT deserved an Oscar nomination

Jason Dolan

And soldier

Michael Lynch

A Tale as Old as Time. Or Two Tales as old as Time… and maybe not as old as Time Time, but pretty dang old. Talking 'bout the Comedy and the Tragedy. Backdraft is a Tragedy. I think the ending concludes that. But is it a Total Tragedy? Brian knows who he is now and he has found his Path. He has a Purpose now. Brian is Happy now. I don’t believe He’s going to let his brother’s death hold him down. Instead, his Brother’s Memory is going to uplift him throughout the rest of his Life. The Ending is a Hopeful one and is meant to Uplift the Viewer. I think that’s one of the main reasons people have loved this film for over 30 years. My favorite films are the ones that blur the lines between Comedy and Tragedy. I’ve said before, there’s always time for laughter… even in a Tragedy. It is the Best Medicine, it Heals Wounds and it Brightens up the Darkness. Laughter gives you Hope... and Hope is a pretty darn great thing. Also, We can’t forget that Montage. What Total Tragedy would have an Uplifting Montage with a Bruce Hornsby and The Range song. Bruce Hornsby… the poster boy for Hopeful Music. If you are ever feeling sad or down, put on Bruce Hornsby and The Range, and you will Feel Better. Trust Me. I recommend the albums The Way It Is (1986) and Scenes from the Southside (1988) to start. (The latter features the song from the montage, "The Show Goes On") Here are the first two tracks from The Way It Is… "On the Western Skyline" & "Every Little Kiss." Give it a try. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHjq52hFSKo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPmyYs92GDs Edit: I had to add one more. "The Valley Road" from the second album. The video is just too much fun. (-: don't mind the lyrics too much... Walk On ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfKIq1Pmc8Q

Larry Darrell

When I had to knock out car windows to get to a hydrant, the woman complained about it, but instead was given a ticket by PD and from what I understood, it can raise your insurance costs

Blaze118

Rebecca De Mornay is your path to Risky Business, the movie that put Tom Cruise on the map. It's time.

Grinznmore

This is my all time favorite movie since I was a kid. With that being said, the fire fighting in this movie in not accurate to real life fire fighting. Definitely cinema fire fighting. Still a great movie.

vito virgilio

I met Daniel Baldwin once he was campaigning for John Kerry back in 2004 him and Joan Jett. I have first responder training. Good reaction once again Cassie. It was great to see Carly again. I love your intro and ending. You always bring a smile to my face. Rebecca De Mornay she was really good in The Hand That Rocks the Cradle.

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

A very underrated and hilarious Kurt Russell film is Captain Ron

Joe

Let’s start a revolution

Jason Dolan

Get it on a poll, waited two years now for 'My Fair Lady' & 'To Catch a Thief' both came close more than once..

Celeste McAllister

I would also be down for them watching RONIN

Jason Dolan

I gotta say the FIRE holds up and is so much better than the CGI fire we get nowadays

Jason Dolan

Some other Kurt that would be good for them are: Big Trouble in Little China Captain Ron Escape From New York The Hateful Eight Tango & Cash

Jason Dolan

That would be a nice C&C watch.

Celeste McAllister

Yep, very much want her to see Frequency.

Cole Jennett

Ransom is phenomenal but would be emotional turmoil for Carly and Cassie

Jason Dolan

I’m still waiting for MIDNIGHT RUN - that’s a total Carly movie

Jason Dolan

She loved "Godfather II' 'Heat' 'Goodfallas' I'd love to see Cassie watch 'The Deer Hunter' she watched 'Platoon' and soldiered through it..

Celeste McAllister

Similar voice. I can see it.

Larry Darrell

And He’s the only one who can say it, and have it really mean something. Anyone else named Kurt Russell is just a Poser.

Larry Darrell

Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves auctioned for this by Billy Baldwin got the part because they felt he looked the most like he could be Kurt Russell's brother.

Jason Dolan

Do you know Robert De Niro? Duh.... Meet the Parents!

Jason Dolan

Who's up for Ladder 49?

Blaze118

Ladder 49!!!!!

Dustin Lapp

Lol Cassie, who picked this tragedy for you? YOU DID. 🤣

Jon Johns

Great Reaction Ladies to a great movie. This is one of those movies that just gets to you. It can be hard to watch. But, It is hard not to watch. I have always liked it. Thanks for coming along for the ride Carly. Nice hair. I didn't know it was so long. Come and watch a movie with Cassie any time you want.

Rick Williams

Another great one is "Ransom" it's directed by Ron Howard who also directed "Backdraft" and it has Mel Gibson and Rene Russo as a married couple 😀 It's like a crazy alternate universe after Riggs and Laurna got married and had their son 😀

Johnny Salinas

Men of honor is incredible

Michael Lynch

The fire effects are ALL real and still look incredible. The script doesn't quite match the quality of the effects, but I'll watch Kurt Russell or Robert De Niro all day long. Another great Kurt Russell movie I'd recommend is Stargate (1994)

Odd Thomas

That makes sense, because I kept scrolling through Scott Glen’s filmography and couldn’t find a match.

Uncle Phoenix

'Ladder 49' I 2nd that!

Celeste McAllister

I hope the jerk's auto insurance denied any claims after they read the police report..

Celeste McAllister

Haha. My prediction is that when the owner returned, he wasn't pleased. And was read the riot act about parking in front of a hydrant when there was a fire. Probably had to pay all the damage, too. 🤣

Zane From Canada

Fun fact: Soldier is set in the same universe as Blade Ruuner

Evil Darth Carl

Men of Honor is based on a true story and has a happy ending that also has Robert DeNiro. It’s one of those under the radar type movies but very well made.

Anthony Oberhauser

Kurt Russell was a lady killer back in the day.

Michael Lynch

Great Reaction Cassie and Carly, I’m surprised you didn’t see the family resemblance with Billy Baldwin (Brian) I forgot what a cutie he was when he was younger. All the Baldwin brothers (Alec, Billy, Stephen and Daniel) look so much alike and were so handsome. Now I’m remembering Alec in Beetlejuice. Speaking of resemblance, the arsonist also President Snow is Donald Sutherland, father to Kiefer. Now Kiefer is the spitting image of his father. Axe was played by Scott Glenn who was also in The Right Stuff, Urban Cowboy, The Hunt for Red October with Alec Baldwin, Silence of the Lambs and Training Day. I believe most of these are on the channel. I hadn’t seen this movie in a long time and the only thing I remembered was that there were brothers and Kurt’s character died. I completely forgot about Axe until right before.

Tara

I remember it being a huge thing when it came out. After rewatching it now, so many years later, I have to say it doesn't work for me as well any more. It is still watchable, but the spectacle about it is gone.

Dioskur

I believe it was "We Bought A Zoo". But may have accidentally mixed up Scott Glenn with Thomas Haden Church.

Zane From Canada

During the outro, does anyone know what Carly said, “That Axe guy was also the brother in (insert indiscernible mumble)”? Sounds like, “Me Want to Sue”, or maybe “We Odyssey”.

Uncle Phoenix

And the owner was standing by watching the firefighters bang up his expensive ride,😅

Celeste McAllister

I do also have some word that immediately trigger a movie scene in my head. For example, when hearing "life forms", the following song usually pops in my mind from a movie that hasn't been featured on the channel yet (GENERATIONS 🖖): "Life forms! You pretty little life forms! You precious little life forms! Where are you?" Also, having just seen Donald Sutherland in the cast, there are a few others from KELLY'S HEROES, like "negative waves". I know I have seen this movie, but it was so long ago (probably 20+ years) I don't really remember much. I guess it could count as a second time first watch. 😀 I can't recommend enough the Kurt Russel hockey movie MIRACLE (2004). Also, a personal favorite of mine, STARGATE (1994).

Gábor Árki

One of a long list of 80s and 90s Donald Sutherland short roles that just steal the film.

pinkdino99

Watching your reactions made me remember how gutted I was at the end of this when it first came out in '91. Beautifully heartbreaking movie. Much respect to those first responders who deal with danger and tragedy on a daily basis.

Andrew Rose

Great movie, super reaction. I’m hoping more than ever that Cassie reacts to the John Carpenter/Kurt Russell masterpiece “Big Trouble In Little China” someday. I also love their collaboration on “Escape From New York” but question whether Cassie would like it. Another Kurt Russell flick I feel certain Cassie would love is “Captain Ron” - it’s goofy, silly good fun.

Just Plain Bob

I think she’d like it quite a bit.

Just Plain Bob

Backdraft is really a super exciting film about the fire department. Thank you for reacting to this film. Of course, this film is also from the successful director Ron Howard (Apollo 13). Check out his other exciting film too. Ransom (1996) with Mel Gibson.

Daniel Fuchs

I'm looking forward to watching this tonight, this was one of my favorites childhood movies growing up! For a time, this movie inspired me to become a firefighter, but given my asthma when I was a kid, that wasn't going to happen lol! Still, this is a really good movie, and yeah it is emotional! I hope you and Carly did enjoy it though! I'll leave my commentary on it tonight after I watch it! Love and support, have a happy Saturday, Happy Veterans/Remembrance Day🥰😇🙏🌹

Wesley White

When Kurt exits the burning building with a baby in his hands,he must be thinking to himself "I'm Kurt Russell, I'm Kurt Russell, I'm Kurt Russell!"...

Celeste McAllister

Despite this movie's spectacular cast (Robet DeNiro, Kurt Russell, Donald Sutherland, Jennifer Jason Leigh, J.T. Walsh), it's not really one of my favorites. Not even really sure why. Maybe a little too soap-opera melodramatic for me? I don't know. But, I'll check anything out again if both Cassie and Carly are along for the ride.

Steve Mercier

Only seen this movie once when I was young. Don't remember much of it, which means it didn't make much of an impact. I'll watch it though, mainly to see what type of mastery Bobby D pulls off in this one.

Shehab Dawoud

Does anyone else think that Cass would like “Soldier” (1998)? I really enjoyed it; but I think it’s one of those movies that only guys like.

Uncle Phoenix

Love the movie. Would love it even more if someone else had Baldwin's role.

Brent Petty

Kevin Costner was really good in “Molly’s Game”.

Uncle Phoenix

To the words that trigger reactions... when anyone says "It must be nice" I have to follow with "to have Washington on your side" from Hamilton. Weird.

Jen Barnes

Kurt Russell and J.T. Walsh (RIP) were also in Breakdown together, hope you have a chance to give that one a watch since you’re looking for more Kurt Russell content…

JL_83

Cassie & Carly, this is my favorite Ron Howard movie. Hans Zimmer's soundtrack was awesome & intense. This is a movie that I would DEFINITELY suggest to Addie Counts. Here's some behind the scenes facts: In the scene where Adcox was on fire, Scott Glenn wore THREE pairs of Nomex long underwear. During the third take, the fire got too hot, it went through the third layer, and he had to yell cut. The film also used the so-called ash-o-matic to depict ashes getting onto them. Glenn hated it so much that he destroyed it after filming.

Alex Tan

I had an embarrassing moment with firefighters one time: My friend accidentally left the dryer door open after a cycle. The heat set off the alarm. Two fire trucks with eight firefighters showed up, at my neighbors house first. 🙄 I then had the privilege of explaining to them exactly what, how and why this happened. They thought it was funny and one of them said "Oh yeah! I remember that happening last week, too." I felt so bad afterwards but I couldn't help but laugh, too. 😏🤣

Zane From Canada

Firefighters.....one more plus up for Frequency.

Seymor Butz

That one would have worked well as a scary but not too scary October reaction.

Cole Jennett

Rebecca De Mornay was fabulous on 'The Hand that rocks the cradle', worth a watch!

Priscila

Thanks for watching this, Cass. Another thrilling and emotional firefighter movie you would absolutely love is LADDER 49. Came out in 2004 and stars Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta. I know you have a packed movie schedule, but if you're on a firefighter kick, and you can squeeze it in, please give it a consideration. You'll love it, I promise! 🚒😎

Aaron Mann

Only The Brave for the next firefighter movie! Or Ladder 49!

joserodriguez6195

Love this movie, one of Kurt Russell's best, very good cast !👍

Danny (Icarus)

"Ahh, these moments do try me." 😅 I witnessed firefighters smashing a car window(s), that was blocking a hydrant, to run the hose through. I thought that was just added to the film for a laugh, but apparently it happens. 😁

Zane From Canada

I remember this as the big return of JJL. Makes me think FAST TIMES is a good recommendation. Maybe as throwback High School double feature with DAZED AND CONFUSED. "Alright, alright, alright." That will becone a part of your movie quotes lexicon., Prom Prom.

Jason Fulbright

Pizza and Backdraft this afternoon 👍🏽
