Adventures In Babysitting (1987)

Well this was pure fun! This was a live-watch-along for the butter babes and it was just nostalgic and tender and fun and crazy but also relatable! Thanks to our trivia picker Larry Darrell for this one!

Adventures In Babysitting (1987)

Another awesome reaction, Cassie! I loved this movie as a kid growing up. I watched it with my siblings so many times! Vincent D'Onofrio (Thor) was also in Mystic Pizza (1988), which was Julia Roberts' first starring role! I grew up one town over from Mystic, CT where it was shot. Such an awesome movie, also starring Lili Taylor, Annabeth Gish, Bill Moses, and Adam Storke... and a super young Matt Damon has a small role in it, too! I'm going to loudly echo everyone else to say Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (1991) should be on your shortlist! It's even better than "Adventures in Babysitting" in my opinion! Christina Applegate is in it with Keith Coogan (Brad in AiB). You will LOVE the awesome makeover montages in it, too! I have a son who is autistic, too. Thank you for the awareness you promote on your channel. Every little thing we can do for these kids, adults, and their families helps. There's been more focus on children with autism, which is needed and deserved, but all of those kids grow up to be adults who need social services, employment, and general support. They have so much to give... praying that we can all erase the stigma that comes with autism and do right by our autistic community! Thank you for all you do to keep us entertained! You and Carly are my favorite reactors! This is my favorite time of the year, and I'm so looking forward to your holiday flick picks!!! Much love to you and your whole family!

Here’s a link to a photo with the alternative title. https://images.app.goo.gl/q2jFMC65a8p1PWKE8

Luke Godfrey

Not sure why it had the different title over here. That’s just what it was called when we first watched it in the 90s. There’s only a brief mention of it on Wikipedia. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventures_in_Babysitting

Luke Godfrey

"A Night on the Town?" I've never heard of this alternate title. Can you give some info on where you saw it where it was called that?

Yes, Don't Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead and Beethoven where the first movies I ever seen him in. I didn't like him until he did The X-Files though

Katie Jackson

First time I saw David Duchovny in a movie, whom she really loved in Return to Me

Cole Jennett

Absolutely on the quality, especially sound. Is that certain on the deleting thing? I've a pretty extensive iTunes library and not noticed stuff I've bought vanish (although some stuff has been resolution downgraded I'm almost sure). I'm in Europe so maybe they are not allowed to here, or maybe I don't notice it?

AdrianF

Given how streaming companies and companies that sell digital content can simply pull and remotely delete the content that you purchased, physical media is always preferred. The quality of picture and sound are invariably better, too.

Above Average Dave

And as is AiB, like rocking horse kaka on disc for those who prefer physical. Wonder why her movies seem to just vanish or don't get reprints? Anyway, there was a Spanish blu ray came out last year or so which I picked up based on your recc that arrived today, and happily it doesn't have forced subtitles and is region free if that helps anyone.

AdrianF

I love this movie and actually wore out my VHS copy as a kid I watched it so many times. Another one I think you'd like that has a similar feel is Don't Tell Mom The Babysitters Dead. It came out in 1990 and really has that feel of not quite 80's but not really 90's either. It really feels like a bit of both and is a lot of fun.

Katie Jackson

Finally got around to watching this reaction. Haven't seen this movie since I was a kid. Still as enjoyable now as it was back then. Although when I watched it back then it was called A Night On The Town. Never knew it was known by a different name until I saw it in the poll and looked it up on IMDb.

Luke Godfrey

I'd love to see Cassie do a full re-watch reaction to The West Wing! Maybe make it a Patreon exclusive.

David Crabtree

Josh simply realized that none of these girls holds a candle to Donna!

David Crabtree

What a terrible ending, I hated that. We didn't even know that guy.

Snapjaw

Oh, and did you recognize Brenda as a very young Penelope Ann Miller (the mom from KINDERGARTEN COP)?

Stick Figure Studios

What a fun, charming movie. Glad you liked it. Figured you would. BTW there actually was a post credit scene in this movie and it was pretty funny. :-)

Stick Figure Studios

Of course I watched this when I was young, there is this other movie that has the same trope is called Drivers License to Drive (1988). I probably mentioned this already but I know you’ll like that one as same as Adventures of Babysitting.

FranciscoGios

Haha this does have a post credit tag

Jason Dolan

Don't fetch with the babysitter!

Greg Macon

For all the Elizabeth Shue fans, "Trigger Effect" is a great (and often missed) movie. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117965/

More's the pity, too!

If you guys in this community hadn’t given me the heads up it was him, I never would have recognized him! Unreal!

Mike LL

She can't be in two places at once Dave.

AdrianF

I’ve never even heard of this movie before. Looking forward to watching it.

Alex Gorell

Good info, thanks!

Jeffery Parks

I'm pretty sure this is where I fell in love with Elizabeth Shue (in high school) and was sure she'd wait for me.

Above Average Dave

Dang it! Thanks anyway.

Mike Lemon

Movie on TV, Reaction on Phone. I can easily see both without having to move my head.

Larry Darrell

Fun reaction Cassie! Very 80’s! I haven’t seen this one since I was a kid. Brought back a lot of fond memories! Nice way to start off November!

Robert da Spruce

"They just had a certain magic that is hard to find in today's films." - I think that magic is 'hope'. The U.S. was coming out of a terrible recession, Vietnam was over, communism was falling, the racial strife of the '60s was behind us and we were quickly on the mend, and everyone thought the best was yet to come. Now, for the last 20ish years, hatred, fear, and an impending sense of doom has taken hold and is being reflected in the movies. If I can find R.A. Salvatore's quote about hope, I'll post it because it is still so relevant (edit- can't find it).

Mike Lemon

sorry, no easy way that i've found, just searched online for a strike-through generator and cut and pasted.

rakesh

Based on the title I confused this film with another one, DON'T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER'S DEAD, which is starring Christina Applegate. I watched both of them a long time ago, probably on TV. The 80s were such a great decade for cinema, especially comedies. The movies of that decade had a unique blend of humor, adventure, romance, and the right kind of cheesiness. They just had a certain magic that is hard to find in today's films. As someone who was born in the mid 80s and grew up in the 90s, I sometimes wonder if the younger generations appreciate them as much as I do, or if my perspective is biased by nostalgia and the influence of the 80s media that I consumed in my childhood. Especially, because the 80s only really arrived here after the Iron Curtain fell in 1989.

Gábor Árki

I loved this movie when I was a kid, watched it soooo many times. Loved watching it again with you. I had a huge crush on Elizabeth Shue, felt every bit of Brad's pain! There is a tiny end of credits scene, look out for it if you ever watch this again.

TopGun2

On my desktop- VLC playing a copy of the movie in the top left, the reaction on the bottom left. To fix the sync problem(1), set the movie playback speed to 96%. (1) The problem is usually because streaming services will sometimes use a PAL (European) version of a movie and my copy is NTSC (North American). PAL plays a bit faster.

Mike Lemon

Oh man! This was such a good watch, not only did I have so much fun watching you smile and laugh again to this movie, but I had so many memory flashbacks going off in my head watching this movie as a kid back in the day! This came out in 1987 so I wasn't even born yet, 1988 I was born lol, but I remember when I was like 5 years old I think, my Dad and I would watch this all the time! Man oh man I forgot how good this movie was! Whoever the trivia winner was, excellent job sir for picking this movie for Cassie to watch, I salute you! This totally makes up for the heartache I felt for you Cassie, after your IT reaction, thanks for cheering me up [BIG virtual hug🤗🥰] Excellent job I must say Cassie for recognizing Vincent D'Onofrio as Mr. Dawson from other media you've seen him in! I'm a little surprised you didn't recognize Penelope Ann Miller (Brenda) she was the Mom in KINDERGARTEN COP, then of course it's not that easy to recognize her with the glasses and the hairstyle she had, oh well lol! Yes there was a post credit scene at the end, the one guy that went after the little girl out the window of the building was left there sobbing like a baby lol🤣 Man, Elisabeth Shue, she was gorgeous back then, I admit, I had a huge crush on her back when I watched this movie, she's still lovely as ever today! My favorite scene is in the bar and them all singing the "Babysitting Blues" that was great, I remember as a kid dancing on my parents bed while watching that scene and trying to sing-a-long with it, oh GOSH😳I can't believe I just said that outloud LOL🤣🤣🤣 I don't really know much other trivia about this movie, all I can say is that I really enjoyed watching your reaction to this movie, a childhood favorite of mine! Speaking of which, sorry for going off topic! I know I keep bringing this up, I'm sorry please forgive me for my pestering, but I so really hope to see you and Carly react to another childhood favorite movie of mine, Disney's IRON WILL! I recently did a little researching on the movie since it's based on a true story, and I must say, I think it's right up your alley being Canadian and all! The movie is apparantly based on dogsled racer, musher, and trapper Albert Campbell from The Pas, Manitoba, Canada, who competed in the Red River Derby, the Winnipeg - St. Paul 522 miles dog sled race! I can guarantee you, you and Carly will absolutely love this movie, especially since Carly loves dogs as much as I do, and despite the fact the dogs are all huskies, don't let THE THING ruin your opinion about them lol! In conclusion, I just really really loved watching this reaction, thank you once again for cheering me up and making up for the heartache I felt for you from your IT reaction lol! You're the absolute best Cassie! Hope you have a Happy Friday, like I said I'll be attending the Autism Speaks charity walk in support of your little sister, I'll take pictures and send them to you when I get a chance! Love and support always, [virtual hug] God bless you, Carly, and your family, and as always [snaps fingers & winks] stay classy Cassie🥰🤗😁😉😇🙏👍🌹

Wesley White

I watched the full length movie along with you. I actually think this may be one of the very first movies I ever saw in my life. The fact that you didn't talk too much during the reaction is likely a good example of what a great film this is. It doesn't require talking when you're so heavily invested in the film.

Mike the Ginger

Still waiting on my blu-ray... but it should be here by end of day today. Looking forward to this one :D

AdrianF

This movie actually has a end title sequence...lol

Walter Crockett

Craziest babysitting story: I don't know why, but as a 13 year old i had to babysit a 9 year old boy from my neighborhood. I think real babysitters were in short supply. Anyway I did that like 5 times until a New Years night where the kid wanted to shoot off a bunch of fireworks at midnight. I thought it was a great idea and one of our roman candles caught a neighbor's lawn on fire. That night ended my babysitting career thank goodness.

Brian's Dog

I'm right on top of that, Rose.

Super Powered Design (Jim)

I wonder if Cass saw Keanu Reeves in "Street Kings”. "Street Kings" feels like the Real “Speed 2”.

Uncle Phoenix

Actually there is a post credit scene, but it's just that guy still out on the window of the building. I was so excited to hear this being announced. I love this film, it's soooo good! You should totally see Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. Another fun babysitting adventure. This one definitely different but it too is really great.

DM DC

Awesome man! I appreciate the thorough detail. I was afraid I was missing something really simple that everyone else knew about. Probably the simplest solution for me is to drag in a TV from the other room ... and I do mean drag. It's a 55 inch from about 2008 and probably weighs about 100lbs, feels like anyway.

Jeffery Parks

"Nobody leaves without singing the blues. Nobody!" What a fun reaction Cassie!

Terry Yelmene

I watch the the movie with PIP and the reaction full screen with my Mac plugged into my TV. It is tricky to sync and sometimes the timing is off between my copy and the reaction. But, I pause for a moment to re-sync sometimes. I used to play the reaction on my laptop with the movie playing on my TV next to it. But that wasn't fun because with out Cassie or Carly in the same screen it is kinda annoying to look back and forth instead of PIP to see the reactions. Usually my copies are fine with PIP. When I have to stream form a site, that's when things don't really match up. For instance, this movie I streamed on Diseny+ but it is dubbed and a cut just a little different than the original so I had to pause and re-sync every once in a while. I use Friendly Streaming or quicktime on my Mac for PIP. If I am using my laptop I use Windows Media player in the "mini player" setting to watch movie and just stream the reaction full screen. Works best for me if it is all on the same screen. Hope this gives you different ideas for watching.

Christian Rennie

This movie is a ton of fun! I did see this one in the theater. But it is an interesting/funny story. My family was on our way home from a camping trip but our car kinda broke down. So it go towed to a garage with a nearby movie theater. So our parents sent all the kids to see a movie while the car was fixed. Adventures in Babysitting was the movie that was kid safe. But, it was already playing. So we went in halfway through the movie. After the end we stayed in the theater until it started again and watched it from the beginning. By the end, again, the car was fixed and we went home. It was fun staying in the theater waiting for the next movie to start. Luckily I remember having popcorn and candy.

Christian Rennie

This was fun! This is my generation and I grew up in Oak Park, where Chris and the kids live. I remember when she was on the blues stage and said, "I'm from Oak Park," the entire theater cheered. And of course there's the fun of noticing the things the movie got wrong about Chicago. It was slightly annoying that I watched it on Disney+ and they censored all the bad language. "Don't fool with the babysitter!" I had the same experience seeing this for the first time after watching West Wing where I yelped, "Josh!" when we first see the smarmy boyfriend. And yes, Vincent D'Onofrio in all his young, platinum, broad-shouldered glory! Still the same face and the same voice, though.

Rosanne Stewart

Elizabeth Shue is also in The Karate Kid (the original) and Cocktail (with Tom Cruise)... both good movies you should watch

Julie Lazenby

How do you most of you guys watch these full reactions? With PIP or a second TV or something else? I don't have a good solution right now.

Jeffery Parks

the guy that played "Thor" Mr. Dawson, is the big guy in Full Metal Jacket. Both films released the same year, he lost all that weight and did this film shortly after Full Metal Jacket. He's also one of the best character actors around.. I love him in this film cause you see a completely different side of him

Ryan Towell

How did you do that strike-through thing? If we can do formatting here, that will save so much aggravation.

Mike Lemon

What a trip down memory lane for me! So fun 🤩

Wes

You're right! My mistake. It was Meg Ryan. Also yeah I think he has, not entirely sure about the court of public opinion though. Maybe we'll be getting more than a weird Xmas YouTube video this year.

rakesh

Hard to fathom D’Onofrio made this and full metal jacket in the same year.

Bubba Fett

"City of Angels" ??? Are you confusing her with Meg Ryan? "revelations in getting Kevin Spacey cancelled." Wasn't he found not guilty on all counts?

Mike Lemon

I watched this when i saw a kid. Elizabeth Shue was a lovely girl next door type I guess and had a good run of movies. Cocktail, BTTF, then kind of went away, then came back with The Saint , Leaving Las Vegas, C̷i̷t̷y̷ ̷o̷f̷ ̷A̷n̷g̷e̷l̷s̷ and Hollow Man and then disappeared again. last thing I saw her in was The Boys and Cobra Kai. Solid box office, No out-and-out blockbusters. some interesting cameos Vincent D'Onofrio the mechanic who wears the Thor helmet who you've seen in Full Metal Jacket and plays the kingpin in the daredevil TV series looks a lot different then he does now. Also, one of the kids, Anthony Rapp, plays a character in Star Trek Discovery. Also had a key role with revelations in getting Kevin Spacey cancelled. And you are right Cassie. The 80s were brilliant. If I could, I'd go back in an instant!

rakesh

I'll definitely watch this later, I'm hanging out with my friends watching a movie I also highly recommend you react to! THE WHOLE NINE YARDS, in honor of Matthew Perry, also stars Bruce Willis, it's a great movie! Can't wait to watch this movie, it's a classic! Will definitely make up for the heartache I felt for you after your IT reaction! Hey Cassie, I don't know if you'll be posting any YT edit reactions today, if not no big deal, I was just wondering if I could ask you a question! As you know this Saturday I'm attending the Autism Speaks Charity Walk in support of your little sister, I also made a banner for her with the hastag #TeamHaley, but I was wondering how do you spell your sister's name? Because I know there's a lot of ways to spell Haley, which I assume is how you spell it, I just don't want to look like an idiot lol! If you can tell me that would be much appreciated! Love and support always Cassie, you're the best, [virtual hug] God bless you, Carly and your family🥰😁😉😇🙏👍🌹

Wesley White

Elizabeth Shue stole my heart in The Karate Kid and then again in Adventures In Babysitting! But she was no Daryl Hannah from Splash. Cassie sure gave Daryl a run for the money when she dressed up as Madison on a live stream. Wolf-Whistle!

Barry Justice

Love this movie. D’Onofrio was a great Thor.

Bryan Erickson

One of my faves as a kid!

Nick Ireland

"Well, yeah, you're my hero."- gets me every time.

Mike Lemon

Never had this kind of adventure when I baby sat.💜

Celeste McAllister

I'm looking forward to watching this...when my DVD copy arrives in the mail. 😏

Zane From Canada

Thanks for this. Been forever and a day since I watched this 🍿. Enjoy, hope your family is doing great and feeling better. Looking forward to your next movie 🍿
