2023-10-15 05:49:14 +0000 UTCI wasn't a fan of this movie -- I've never been afraid of spiders so the movie doesn't work for me on that level -- but I've found new appreciation for it from Cassie's reaction! I think Cassie (and Carly) might enjoy the movie Eight-Legged Freaks because it's more action-oriented and has a lighter tone, but should still creep out arachnophobes.

It's grotesque, yes, and it's disturbing, but it's not about jump scares and it's rooted in real human emotion (featuring Jeff Goldblum's greatest performance - if you think all he can do is make snarky commentary, you should see it just to see what he is capable of as an actor.) As far as spiders go - the one scene in LOTR I really can't deal with is the Shelob scene, and I don't think I could see this one all the way through. This gig is not worth the trauma, Cassie! Hold on to your humanity and sensitivity - those are admirable traits. Maybe you need to see a Marx Brothers film to clear your palate.
