Hey guys! This is the YT edit for Zodiac, which will premiere this evening on YT. Hope you enjoy!

Here is the full reaction to this movie.

[YT Edit] Zodiac (2007)

Comments

+1 for "Mindhunter" (2017). Awesome series. RT=97%. IMDb=8.6 Disappointing that the series was canceled, but there is 2 seasons to stream

Clay F

Yeah I was enjoying mindhunters but apparently Netflix cancelled the series. Such a shame.

Thoko

You should check out Mindhunters on Netflix if you enjoy that detective investigative type genre

Devon Sterling

Another really good investigative, true story movie is Philomena. Has one of your favorite actors: Judi Dench. It will keep you guessing and Judi Dench is fantastic!

KauaiKeith

Seven is good film too

S Elphick

A great double feature would be… All the President’s Men (1976) & Spotlight (2015) I like to think of the latter as a Spiritual Sequel, since they are both great investigative journalism films and the first features the real life character Ben Bradlee and the second features his son, Ben Bradlee Jr.

Larry Darrell

I was about to say the exact same thing. No flinching during the stabbing scene. Eyes wide open! haha!!

Philip Alan

Spotlight is excellent. Rachel McAdams is truly a good actor and not just a pretty face.

Clay F

Cassie this reaction is proof positive that you have come a long way since first starting the channel. You didn’t turn away once during those murder scenes. And I was dying laughing at your reaction to Carly. 🤣🤣 all the side eye and looks and making fun of her over reactions lol I couldn’t help but think you were having the experience most of us have when we first started watching you. Laughing at the over reactions and thinking wow she’s super sensitive to everything. Your face had me laughing so hard. I had never seen this and I really enjoyed it. I’m still keeping my fingers crossed for haunting of hill house. You will like it promise. It’s about family and much more emotional than it is scary. Not gory at all. So excited for the rest of the month. I’ve been waiting a full year for these reactions. This month is my Christmas lol Hope everyone’s weekend is great. ☺️👋

So....................you like investigative films. You must watch "Spotlight".

Jay E Bjorklund

The movie was written from a book written by Robert Graysmtih, so of course it will point that his theories were write. To this day even after further handwriting study, DNA testing and anything else you could think of and couldn't find evidence against Allen. After going through suspects for years, it seems like the police pretty much went with the best of the worst which was Allen and wouldn't let go. Then from that point on it was "The Number 23" where no matter where they looked they saw Allen.

Myth Oceanas

Such a great movie, and your reaction was wonderful. Grew up in the SF Bay Area but Zodiac was over and done with by then, though his legend lived on in periodic news reports...

Raj K. Dixit

@Cole- Yes. I've been listening since day one. And that pic, thanks. It has been my profile picture in various places for about 12 years, maybe longer.

Mike Lemon

Definitely one of the best thrillers ever made. Some other great murder mysteries: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (the Daniel Craig/David Fincher version, not the Swedish TV movie) The Nice Guys Brick Destroyer

Odd Thomas

@Mike Lemon are you a fellow listener of the Office Ladies podcast?😂 P.S. Great profile pic

Fun fact- the Ontario airport was used when Michael left The Office.

Mike Lemon

Ontario, Canada! Too funny. CA - is the abbreviation for California. The dreaded suburb of Ontario has a airport that I’ve used a few times when last minute travel popped up. When LAX, Orange Co., and Burbank aren’t an option, Ontario is your last resort. Fincher is known for his obsessive attention to the smallest details and over shooting scenes. Two of my friends landed small roles as a reporter and news anchor. My friend’s reporter part was about 20-seconds of dialogue; he changed outfits 10-times and shot over 20-takes, yet, it ended on the cutting room floor and didn’t make the final cut.

Anyone else immediately thinking of LOST, when hearing "Make Your Own Kind of Music"? I would also like to jump in recommending the two movies referenced in Zodiac, because we had so few reacted to from the era of the 60s and 70s. BULLITT (1968) is a really good action thriller about a San Francisco cop, played by Steve McQueen, who based his portrayal on officer David Toschi. DIRTY HARRY (1971) is another good action thriller taking place in the Bay area. I think it can be seen as the breakaway role for Clint Eastwood from the western genre, and for many his most iconic role. His character was also loosely based on Toschi.

You wore the shirts! That's amazing!! Glad they were the right size!

OK, I'm going the other direction. Good grief that was a boring movie. Granted I came in with that expectation after reading the case was never solved. Essentially "12 Angry Men" in reverse right? Seems wrong to make a movie effectively pinning heinous crimes on a dead man who can't defend himself, especially when the case is based on circumstantial evidence. Surprising since Hollywood's moral standards are usually so high. I didn't watch Cassie and Carly's reaction, the movie was enough for me.

Jeffery Parks

This movie got me obsessed with the Zodiac killer and let me tell you, this movie is so accurate to what obsession is like. First of all, the DNA evidence they collected can no longer rule Allen out as a suspect. Allen’s always been my favourite but the movie doesn’t always tell the truth. This is what real life is like. The detectives don’t get their man and time comes from us all. Great reaction. This movie is one of my favourite “detective” movies. And it’s based on a true story which is crazy.

Stan the Man

Bob Vaugh...that is the actor who was the voice of Roger Rabbit.

John Liebling

Noises Off! What a fun suggestion

In their reaction, the ladies say that they would simply change their handwriting if asked to provide exemplars. Prior to my current semi-retirement, I worked for my state’s government for 23 years conducting investigations of public corruption. I am a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner. I DO NOT have any particular knowledge of handwriting analysis (beyond the training I describe below). However, to maintain my certifications I’m required to obtain a minimum of 40 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) each year. One of the principal sources of my CPE is a fraud conference held annually by the local chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Almost every year they have at least one expert on handwriting and/or questioned documents. Every single handwriting expert I’ve ever heard has agreed on one thing: when giving a handwriting exemplar it is virtually impossible to alter your handwriting in such a way as to defy analysis. It may sound simple and might be possible to do so if left alone for an extended period of time (I’m not sure about that, but it seems reasonable), but trying to alter your handwriting enough to fool an expert “on the fly” simply cannot be done, according to the experts in the field. PS: Mike Mageau’s identification of Arthur Leigh Allen must be taken with a barrel full of salt. First of all, he made the ID more than 20 years after the attack. Second, eyewitness testimony, particularly the testimony of someone that’s been through great trauma, is notoriously unreliable. Finally, his description of his assailant has varied wildly over the years, initially saying he was short, about 5’8” and did not wear glasses and later saying he was tall, about 6 ft, and wore glasses.

Just Plain Bob

I love this movie so much. The directing, the cast, and it was one of Downey Jr’s comeback films after so many tumultuous years of struggling with addiction. The conclusions by Graysmith have largely been disproven, but the point of the movie was the effect these murders had on the Bay Area and its residents. When I was growing up in that area in the mid 80’s a “Zodiac” letter was sent to the newspaper threatening to kill kids on Halloween night. They concluded it was a hoax, but uh, as a small kid it still freaked me out a bit when we were trick or treating. Great vid guys.

Trevor Rotan

This is a great movie. The pacing and the stress levels are spot on. I feel it doesn’t, or didn’t garner the praise it deserves though, because it really is excellent with an amazing cast.

Ria Grix

This movie is like an emotional Brillo Pad. Not my fav, but glad you were able to get through it. Looking forward to The Thing. Kind of a gross film, but fascinating in terms of mystery. There are films I can’t watch like anything animal cruelty or any kind of SA. It’s too much. Noises Off is hilarious and classic if you need something to escape from Halloween for a minute.

Proud of Carly for watching Zodiac. Lol. Should be fun!

Author Travis Adams Irish

If you like the true story aspect and would like to go the courtroom route, Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995) is very good and nearly 100% true (a little time compression at the end). Also, 100% Carly safe.

Mike Lemon

Great reaction! One of my favorite movies. I’ve gone down the rabbit hole a few times trying to solve the case, but not like Greysmith that’s fo sho! During the pandemic in 2020 three Australians and a supercomputer broke the Zodiac’s notoriously unsolvable “340 Cipher” and FBI confirmed it was a correct solution. Pretty crazy it took 50-years to solve it!

SECONDED! Do we have a quorum!?

Apparently Carly is the one who likes roller coasters etc "because they are fun". I'm much of a whimp for that but likes a scary movie now and then:-)

Björn Von Knorring

The movie they were watching in the theatre was Dirty Harry (Clint Eastwood), which was (very) loosely based on the Zodiac case. You must watch Dirty Harry in 2024.

Stephen Malloy

The movie seems to follow what is known about the case fairly well. They did suspect multiple people at different times - at one point they thought 2 or 3 people were working together. The person writing the letters was thought to be very smart with a background in intelligence and cryptography. The police did a couple of profiles on him. The movie that was watched when told to go watch a movie was probably Dirty Harry. Dirty Harry is a movie loosely tied to the zodiac killer as well. The only things that tie that movie to it though were the school bus and the guy is crazy and from the SF Bay area. What wasn't shown in the movie was that he might have attacked many more people all over California - there are multiple attacks of people in cars in the Central valley, as well as in southern and northern California that are still unsolved from the time frame where the zodiac was active. Roughly 20-30 years possibly. I think I remember that after this movie came out - the son of one of the suspects cleaned out his dads house after he died and found some stuff that may have tied him to this case as well. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12096047/FBI-identified-Zodiac-Killer-Air-Force-veteran-Gary-Francis-Poste-died-2018.html - found this article after I typed all the other stuff.

I love how excited Carly is for scary October month on PIB !

You said at one point that, growing up, Carly was the adventurous one. Seems we've had a bit of a reversal, at least when it comes to moves. :)
