Clue (1985) - Full Reaction

We played clue all the time as kids so this was fun and nostalgic, I could have seen us loving this movie when we were young with all the innuendos going right over our heads. Hope you enjoy!

Clue (1985) - Full Reaction

Comments

There is another board game movie, Battleship (2012) with Taylor kitsch, Brooklyn Decker, and Liam Neeson. Cassie, you should recognize Tim Curry as the doctor in The Hunt for Red October and possibly the concierge in Home Alone 2 at the Plaza Hotel. I only know martin mull from this one of the Mary-kate and Ashley movies and his role in a Hallmark-ey Christmas movie Boyfriend for Christmas.

McDiesel92

I remember seeing this in the theater when it was released in 1985. The ending you got to see depended on which show time you went to.

Jonathan Hintz

Clue is a fun movie. My daughters love it. Great reaction.

Ramah Mustangs

The sound comes from your copy of the movie. You can apparently stream on Prime video and Paramount+. Cassie can't provide the sound because of copyright.

Clay F

Where is the sound for the film??

You do recognize Madeline Kahn from movies you reacted to. She was Dr. Frankenstein's fiance in Young Frankenstein and Lili Von Shtupp in Blazing Saddles. She was a favorite of Mel Brooks.

Sills O'Keefe

I actually produced a short film called THE LORD OF CATAN that was about Settlers of Catan back in 2013 that was shot by the DP who did Hereditary and Midsommar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTvN-sAuRNM

Jason Dolan

I'll have to add that one to my own watchlist - what a cast!

Mike H

Fun fact Cassie and Carlie -- a movie reactor who I'm subscribed to produced a short film based on "Lord of Catan" starring Amy Acker (from "Angel").

Michael Jung

yes!!!! that is where i most remember her!!

Cassie

my oldest loves it!!

Cassie

Tim Curry was good in this. Great in Congo and Outstanding in Legend. Rocky Horror is in a class all by it’s lonesome.

Daniel W

That ending makes the most sense to me.

Stick Figure Studios

By remarkable coincidence, yesterday was Madeline Kahn's birthday. Such a talented lady. She was taken too young. :-(

Stick Figure Studios

For more Tim Curry I recommend Congo (best accent used in a film EVER), The Shadow, Legend and of course Stephen King's IT (1990)

Odd Thomas

That was fun; it has been years since I saw this. I didn't remember who killed who; I guess you could say I was clueless. Jumanji is another funny board game movie.

Eddie Perkins

Im stuck at home sick with Covid. Im so excited this got posted, I love this movie and need something to do haha

Andy Bodkin

This movie is so much fun and definitely pays homage to the board game. Glad that it made it onto the channel! The Wadsworth-explains-everything scene(s) is so much fun to watch!

John Casamassa

I laughed hysterically. 2nd.

Larry Darrell

A movie in a similar wacky comedic vein with a large ensemble cast is NOISES OFF (1992) with Carol Burnett, Michael Caine, John Ritter, Christopher Reeve, Julie Hagerty, Marilu Henner, and Nicollette Sheridan.

Mike LL

Ok,get the "VASTLY" superior version on a poll. :)

Celeste McAllister

Except of course the 1970s version is VASTLY superior with a far far better cast a far better direction

Dryfesands

I've been looking forward to this one for 2+ years now!! Now, you need to watch it to catch all the one-liners and sight gags that you COMPLETELY!! missed while playing the sleuths! 🤣 I must've seen this movie at least 15 times, then my kids were in middle/high school and I got to watch it every fall on the first spooky, rainy, thunderstorming night. My son came to get the board game a few weeks ago to familiarize his roommates with story so that he can carry on the first rainy fall night tradition (his roommates are his girlfriend, and two other couples - none who've seen the movie and only 2 of whom have played the game as kids) That was great and I'm so glad you and Carly finally watched it!

Mike H

Middle of October we need to watch Anna and Apocalypse. I think it's a great Holiday movie with a ton of the Feels. Plus it bleeds right into Christmas with a Song at it's heart. Please please please.... Add Anna to the list of movies you watch this year.

Powers209

I nominate 'Murder on the Orient Express' 2017 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Celeste McAllister

When it was released in theaters, you only saw one of the endings and it was random depending on where you saw it. Battleship is another movie based on a game.

Naturekitty5309

I admit I laughed at how the two of you took this deadly seriously for at least the first half. The more you rewatch it the more early jokes you catch. When I saw this in theaters as a kid I was lucky enough to get the "everybody did it" ending.

Patrick Flanagan

Could somebody “clue” us in?

Goony71

Lol and 1:27:16 🤣🤣

Patrick Gibbs

I fourth this motion.

Stick Figure Studios

Apparently there isn't a single line in that entire film that wasn't scripted... with the exception of Madeline Kahn's improvised "flames on the side of my face" speech.

Stick Figure Studios

Fun fact “Clue” is named “Cluedo” in the UK, not sure why there’s a name difference.

Biggman83

Ahahaha! You gotta include that dirty look Carly gives you and “are you gunna be sick?” at 1:20:05 for after you cough for the 100th time! 😂🤣😂🤣

Patrick Gibbs

I grew up watching this movie all the time. This is one of my family’s most oft quoted movies. “Flames…on the side of my face…” is very popular in my house, lol. So fun and one of, if not the best, ensemble casts ever. I was so happy to see y’all having fun with it.

Aimee

I love Private Eyes havent seen murder by death will have to look that up

Kevin B.

Great Fun! A silly little movie from a board game... many years before another comedic film about a toy doll??? (albeit with a lot less marketing $$$ snf hoopla)

Terry Yelmene

So pumped for this watch. This is the pinnacle of the Murder Mystery genre (comedic or dramatic). This movie is so rewatchable.

Bryan Erickson

I've loved Clue since I watched it in theaters :) The way the endings worked has been quite fun. You got a random ending in theaters. The VHS version was what you watched. When it came out on DVD, you could choose from the menu to either watch the VHS version with all three endings, or have the DVD pick an ending at random. Just some context for the cast - Ms. Peacock was the woman who ran the merry-go-round in The Sting. Mrs. White was Dr. "Fronkensteen's" girlfriend from the beginning of Young Frankenstein("not on the lips!"). Mr. Green was Lenny in Laverne & Shirley, and also the lead singer of Spinal Tap.

Patrick Egan

And of course Cassie will see her in BLAZING SADDLES whenever she watches it.

Mike LL

If you want some more Tim Curry goodness, then check out Muppet Treasure Island and The Three Musketeers (1993).

Nathan Bishop

LoL 🤣

David Freese

She was also eunice, Howard's fiance, in WHAT'S UP, DOC?

Stick Figure Studios

To echo your sentiments re: Private Eyes, I love Murder By Death!

Just Plain Bob

I love PRIVATE EYES. That's another one I used to watch constantly as a kid. You might also enjoy MURDER BY DEATH.

Stick Figure Studios

Here is something you may not know. There were three different endings when it came out in the theaters. If you wanted to know the endings you went to Version A, B and C. I think the original dvd release had all three ending on it . No internet back then so it wasn’t as easy finding out each ending.

Jason Mangen

Madeleine Kahn (Mrs. White) was Elizabeth Lavenza (the fiancé) in Young Frankenstein.

Alex Ch

Clue for October? Way to go Cassie, keep those horror movie fan's heads spinning! Who did it? Cassie, in the bed, with the Popcorn bowl, of course! 😂😂😂 Or was it Carly? Dun-Dun-DUUUNNN!

Mike LL

Yessss SO glad you watched the version with all three endings! It's honestly (in my opinion) so much more enjoyable that way. Amazing cast and Michael McKean (Mr. Green) is such a great actor no matter what he's in.

China Andronicus

I third this motion.

Robin Craft

I really hope she watches "The Burbs"

Joshua s. Jackson

An excellent movie with Jack Black. I've recommended it on my watchlist. I think Cassie has watched enough movies now to get all the references.

rakesh

Absolutely.

Patrick Egan

I remember the newspaper ads for it. They actually had to split the showings into categories: Ending A, Ending B, and Ending C. I didn't see it theatrically but I remember my folks coming home from it (they liked it) and they had Ending A (I'll defer to the wiki so as not to spoil it).

Matt Rose

yes. It works as its own thing just fine.

Matt Rose

Question. If I never played clue growing up or at all for that matter, is it still worth watching?

Sahitya

I first saw this back in 1986 or so, on VHS. I loved it then and still love it now. For a similarly themed and fun “whodunit”, I highly recommend The Private Eyes (1980) with Don Knotts and Tim Conway. Like Clue, it’s just a shade spooky but mostly just silly good fun. Plus, Don Knotts and Tim Conway are two of the greatest comic actors of all time, so who wouldn’t want to see them together? If anyone is interested, here’s the trailer: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MCOQP_LaWtQ PS: This and all similarly themed stories and movies owe a huge debt of gratitude to Agatha Christie’s fantastic classic murder mystery “And Then There Were None” aka “Ten Little Indians.” PPS: The butler was played by Tim Curry, who most notably played Frank-N-Furter in the wonderful, classic horror/comedy/musical Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Just Plain Bob

Super excited for this reaction

kaiielle

These guys break down Clue minute-by-minute! One episode per minute of the movie!!

Patrick Gibbs

I think it was! It doesn’t get a lot of credit because it’s so close to 1984, which is arguably top 5 or so with the all-time great movie years like 39, 99, 67 and 59.

Alex Ch

This seemed to be on TV every other week when I was growing up. I always enjoyed it, but haven’t seen it for years. Looking forward to revisiting it.

Patrick Gibbs

My absolute favorite movie of all time!! If you’re a big fan check out “Whodunnit: The Clue Documentary”. I’m in it a few times in the fan reactions. So much BTS in it!!

Patrick Gibbs

Ah, CLUE. From the director of MY COUSIN VINNY, a movie that sadly didn't do well at the box office but really developed a huge cult following over the years. Terrific cast. Very funny. This film was on in almost constant rotation at my house when I was a kid. We loved it. When it was released in theaters, it had one of three different endings and you never knew which ending you were going to get (all three endings were included on the home video, cable and subsequent streaming releases). My parents watched it in theaters and later told me they saw the first ending. Personally, I've always preferred the third ending. Really looking forward to this reaction. Should be fun. I'll bet you both enjoyed it.

Stick Figure Studios

Looks like 1985 was a good year for movies..

Celeste McAllister

Be kind, please rewind!

Jason Fulbright

The download link not working?

Philip Alan

I second this motion.

Jason Fulbright

I was at New York Comic Con in 2017. The Twisted Toonz panel did a reading of Clue that year. Anyone whoever did a voice for a cartoon character from my childhood: Maurice LaMarche, Robert Paulsen, Jess Harnell, Nolan North, Tress MacNeille, etc. It was some of the funniest stuff I ever saw. 😂

Zane From Canada

Starting my own copy and kind of wishing I knew whether I'm supposed to select a random ending or all three endings? I guess I'll find out what you chose when I hit the end...

China Andronicus

my story behind this one: went on a long school trip back in the day where the buses had tv screens and a VHS (yes I’m that old, lol) so classmates brought movies for everyone to watch…someone had this one so we watched it on the bus; I was familiar with the board game even though I rarely played it and was shocked cause I had no idea it’d been made into a movie, let alone a movie with many actors I recognized (Curry, Lloyd, McKean, et al); while I don’t consider it a great movie, I never mind watching it and always think about that bus trip when I first saw it…oh the nostalgia 😀

JL_83

Glad you enjoyed it. We played it a lot when we were growing up as kids as well.

Bill Maurer

Going in totally blind I love it, Let's get a murder mystery poll started...'Murder on the Orient Express' 2017 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Celeste McAllister

Never even knew there was a film. This should be fun 👍🏽

Omar

OMG - we loved clue! Are your kids old enough to play it now? Or would it bore them? Thanks for this, Cassie! Hope all y'all are feeling better! God bless.
