Upcoming!

Happy Gilmore Girls season to all those who celebrate. Happy fresh peaches season, happy fall TEASE season if you will!  Is it feeling fall-ish where you are yet? I put up my fall decorations but still very hot and green outside.

Welllllp back to school, means back to germs and I have this sickness I can't seem to kick. "Maybe its a tumor!" "Its not a tumah"  I'm pretty sure its covid, it feels the same as when I had it last year, and because its lasting forever :/ Don't you worry though, I will rally for Trivia Night tomorrow because 1. I'm too excited to postpone and 2. I really don't have to do much and can do it in my pajamas!

Surprise! We watched Barbie, it was so fun to watch with Carly! She texted me after "I hope that reaction wasn't terrible, I was so into it, I think I forgot to talk" We are also starting FOUR FACTOR week! and then we are start getting into SCARY BUT NOT TOO SCARY movies! Speaking of that a "Light Halloween/Halloween Comedy" Poll will be coming out today or tomorrow!

I really loved ANIMAL week with you guys, I'm tempted to watch 3rd place as well in November because I enjoyed all of them so much! My parents are most likely coming in the next couple of weeks, which I always look forward to-they're coming for 1)utah peaches 2) to see us ;)

Ok I hope to see as many of you who can make it to trivia as possible tomorrow!

Hope you are well and healthy!

Cassie

Comments

For the record, I wasn’t saying all people who didn’t like it were haters. I’m saying there are haters of this movie who are trying to sway people from watching it. As someone who wants to see a reaction to this movie but can’t because so many comments have pushed reactors away from seeing it has honestly become really frustrating.

Adam Grunther

Watch Diabolique (1955), not modern-day scary but it will give Psycho a run for its money!

barnabas

Well, I wasn't scared by the Exorcist, none of the Halloweens, 29 Days Later, the Omen, The Descent and most of the usual stuff. Jaws scares me because, when I was 12, I was on a rubber raft just like the kid who gets eaten and I was the last person out of the water during a feeding frenzy of bull sharks. Also, two other close encounters - one with a hammerhead in SC, and another with a Whitey in Cape Cod (I learned to ocean swim at 6 at a beach that's now closed to humans because...too many White Sharks). The Road scares the living hell out of me because I've seen people in other countries in moments when all the usual amenities of life are suddenly gone. Not pretty and very little mercy. We're one meteor/Carrington Event/EMP or grid attack from that.

Above Average Dave

I take it you don't watch a lot of scary movies then, do you? Not throwing shade, I've just never thought of either of those movies as being scary.

Richard Maurer

I was sure The Thing was mentioned as well (but could be wrong) I also thought the Conjuring franchise was a no go for her as well. I also don’t recall her watching Saw and I can’t see it on her Patreon.

Dean Holt

I think we will have to agree to disagree on the first one lol. But they is quite a few movies I’ve watched that I didn’t like or thought was overrated The Revenant being one of them. Scorsese is one of my favourite directors but they are a few of his films I’m not a fan of I’d also include a few Oscar winners on the dislike list as well. But i very rarely go on other peoples rating and tend to make my mind up by looking at the cast, director and the trailer. Also the only genres I tend to avoid are Musicals, westerns and Extreme hardcore horror not because they are scary but I find them I bit to sick and twisted.

Dean Holt

The Scariest Movies I've ever seen: Jaws and The Road.

Above Average Dave

4 is not good, but 5 is really, really bad. I will not go into detail, so as not to spoil in case she/they watch them, other than to say bad: plot, score, script, antagonist, protagonist, directing, and acting. To me those two are not Indy movies (there are only 3). Riding off into the sunset in "The Last Crusade" was the perfect ending. Not every IP needs to be milked until it is lifeless; actually, no IP needs or deserves that. P.S. I agree with Michael. Not liking something does not make one a "hater", in fact it is because we love something so much that we recognize bad/lazy knockoffs when we see them. Just because they slap a brand on something does not mean it is either good and/or must be liked. P.P.S. Caomhan84 It wasn't "part of the internet", as that movie BOMBED badly at the box office and for good reason. Doesn't mean you can't love it; there are lots of terrible media that I love, the difference is I can admit/see that it is bad but still unapologetically love it anyway. (For example... "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance" was bad but I still love it.)

Doug Fisher

This is sort of like the eternal Star Trek / Galaxy Quest argument for me, except I'm more on the other side for this one. To the point, as big a fan of the original Evil Dead as I am, I'd compromise and say at least do ED2 first. (damn, it hurt me to say that).

Richard Maurer

Too true. But at least she got to Tombstone eventually.

Richard Maurer

I usually don't recommend extendeds. But I make an exception where I think the extendeds really improve the film, like LotR or Kingdom of Heaven. I think Dr. Sleep falls in that category, but not so much that I'd be upset if the theatrical version were watched instead.

Richard Maurer

My input for Scary but not too scary... "The Lost Boys", "The Frighteners", "The Craft", and finally for Carly especially "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1992 movie). I mean "Buffy the Vampire Slayer T.V. series is fantastic but that is over 150 episodes so...

Doug Fisher

To be slightly serious, I can almost guarantee it would lose that poll (depending on your definition of "hardcore"). The moment it looked like it was winning, someone (me) would suggest we horror fans rally around the second place film, and horror fans, being who we are, would do it. Now if you mean REALLY hardcore, like Cannibal Holocaust - Necromantic level hardcore, that's obviously never going to happen. But say, just for fun, everyone on Cassie's team suddenly went insane and made a poll like that. If that happened I (and probably 99% of the other horror fans here) would be the first to try and put a stop to it. Those films are not for most people (or any people, really). Now if you want a poll that AaOL could almost certainly win how about one called "Films named Arsenic and Old Lace from 1944, starring Cary Grant poll". While I wouldn't vote for it I'm sure a couple of people would. ;-)

Richard Maurer

I don’t mind if it’s the extended version because I own a copy but in general I get frustrated by channels reacting to things that are hard to find or cost extra money or are just unavailable outside the US.

Jacob King

Rush Hour is on her "Watched" list.

Jon Johns

Sure it could! Just put it in a 10-movie poll with the other nine being evenly-matched hardcore horror films! :-)

Happy Hanukkah

The trouble being that it takes only one "impostor" in the poll to ruin this and horrify you even more. :cough: Maverick :cough: :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Sure she can, as many people have and derived pleasure from.

Happy Hanukkah

I have a feeling we might get one real modern horror film. That's part of the reason I've been pushing a classic horror poll so hard, I'll take classic horror over horror adjacent comedy, action, and children's films anytime.

Richard Maurer

She can't watch Army of Darkness without watching the first two Evil Deads first

William Bryan

Cassie would hate the ending for sure, but I won't go so far as to say it shouldn't be on a poll. Her reaction would be interesting, if nothing else.

Richard Maurer

@ Dean - I guess I didn't make myself clear because I never thought you were implying that the movie was bad. I'm saying it doesn't matter if a film makes her uncomfortable, that's still not something we can know beforehand and so we can't base picking a film like The Thing on what some patrons think her reaction my be. And as for it being scary......it's a horror film, it's literally supposed to scare people, so if it scares her, that's a good thing (no pun intended). As to how much it will scare her, again that's not something we can judge beforehand. Also, I'm not saying you can't pick and choose what movies you watch but if you (or anyone else) like the vast majority of the films you watch then you must be playing it very safe in your choices.

Richard Maurer

Well, I'm not too worried about Arsenic - it will never win a poll anyway :-)

Richard Maurer

I am truly hoping for Army of Darkness for Halloween reactions. Probably the first in the "Horror/Comedy" genre and a meme-filled and oft-quoted festival of fun. Also, Bruce Campbell, so it's filled with campy goodness!

Above Average Dave

Only movie she has said no to definitely was Exorcist. She also watched Saw last year for Ben. So you never know what's coming until she says so in a post or during something on YT.

David Freese

The Mist is a favourite for me but it would be cruel for Cassie.

Björn Von Knorring

I personally think The Thing is one of the greatest horror films but I don’t think it’s for everyone I have a few friends that just don’t like that genre so I know they wouldn’t like it. But when I put not liking the movie i didn’t just mean thinking the film is rubbish but more in the way of not being able to watch it due to it being to scary or feeling uncomfortable watching it. I thought with me putting when she watched The Shining she didn’t have a good time with that I thought you would have gotten that but apologies if you didn’t. I will watch most types of movies but if the film looks like something I know I wouldn’t like for example a comedy with Melissa McCarthy I probably would give it a miss as I’ve watched a few of her movies and I’ve just don’t like her and never found her funny. And as I’m never going to watch every movie every made I’d rather spend my time watching something i think I’m going to like rather that wast my time watching something I’m probably not going to. But you crack on mate watching loads of movies you know you’ll probably dislike. But it might be because you really enjoy criticising films who knows each to their own I suppose lol.

Dean Holt

@Richard- I agree. I think it is actually a good vampire movie.

Mike Lemon

Should be plenty of time to righten the ship, Will. Hopefully, my team will at least, make the dance. -James

james flack

Yeah, I know 😆 It´s such a gem. Between 2000-2005-ish it was on top 250 on IMDB. Not bad for a movie that failed in the US (It was the US film distributor fault) https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/show_me_love

Björn Karlsson

Ok, *I* love that ending. But it is just cruel to ask Cassie to watch that.

David Conroy

I quite agree that most of the horror inspired by these films will be in you, if any of them (especially Arsenic) is chosen as THE Halloween Horror movie. :-) (And even then, it will be horror for you, but slightly comedic for me! :-) ) [Since this is the Internet, I'll put it more lucidly: my suggestions were indeed specifically meant as very light (if any) horror fare; they are not meant to "replace" true horror films.]

Happy Hanukkah

Arsenic and Old Lace

Jon Freezin-Rain

The Wailing (Drama, Horror) A popular movie reactor yet again chooses not to watch a certain Swedish coming -of-age film. :-) :-) :-) (By the way, "[Show Me Love] is among the top ten of the British Film Institute list of the 50 films you should see by the age of 14.")

Happy Hanukkah

True Blood? Dude, she's Canadian! Surely Forever Knight. :-) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forever_Knight

Happy Hanukkah

Not for me. Usually for a new release Prime makes you buy it for $19.99 with no rental option for several months. Barie is $29.99 to buy and $24.99 to rent. That is the highest I have ever seen.

Richard Bourne

Braves gotta get their pitching in order. Both starting and the bullpen. Best lineup in baseball is only gonna go so far lol

William Bryan

Idk James the way Atlanta has played the last four games its anyone's Pennant

William Bryan

@ Mike Lemon - that one is better than you'd think, but I still wouldn't put on a poll for the best vampire movies.

Richard Maurer

People not liking things they watch is part of the movie experience. If you only watch things you're sure you'll like then you're just limiting yourself. This goes for the movies Cassie watches on her channel too - if she enjoys every one then something's wrong. At the risk of sounding like a broken record I'll once again use the movie 300 as a example. She liked it even though many commenters were sure she wouldn't. And once again it was Cassie herself who said she wanted to expand her horizons. That will never happen if we only pick movies we're sure Cassie will like. The Thing is a great movie, one that she should see. Whether she will like it or not is a question none of us can truly answer, despite the large number of people here who are sure they know exactly what she'll like. I'd rather she see it and not like it than never know for sure because of people's assumptions.

Richard Maurer

Vampire in Blackeberg (The area in LTROI in Stockholm) 😆😆😆

Björn Karlsson

Ohhhhhhh, The Mist!!!!!!! Best ending ever

William Bryan

Whatever movies Cassie picks for October, I hope she delves at least a little deeper into actual horror films. Frankly, last Halloween season’s selections were a little disappointing. In fact, I feel that she’s backslid. After a strong start with films like Halloween and The Shining a couple of years ago, last year’s choices included movies such as Christine and The Crow, which are almost completely devoid of horror.

Just Plain Bob

Np 😊😊

Björn Karlsson

Thank you. 👍

Björn Karlsson

The Lost Boys would be a great scary not scary movie! It's got a few scenes that remind you it's a horror movie, but it was originally written as The Goonies, but with vampires, they changed it a little and actually made it super 80s cool.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

1,4,3,2,5 for me. I like to pretend the 5th one doesn’t exist.

Alex Gorell

Personally I don’t think it scary at all and I think the same about The Shining but she didn’t have a good time with that. So it could be to much for her as everyone has different tolerance levels to horror. At the end of the day like David said it’s her choice but not sure about you but I don’t enjoy watching someone else not really liking something they are watching.

Dean Holt

Hope you feel better Cassie!

Mike Carey

I did it in Movie/TV suggestions. I couldn't do it on Popcorn Request. Error on the hosts side? Do you have the link?

Zane From Canada

Vampire in Brooklyn! (slightly joking)

Mike Lemon

@Dean - Daybreakers was pretty good. I'd actually put Underworld on a action poll rather than horror, but since I doubt that would happen on Cassie's channel I guess it could go on the vampire poll.

Richard Maurer

If I had a dollar for every time a mainstream movie was called "too much for Cassie" I'd be able to retire. The Thing is just not that bad, and anyone who says it is, patrons or "advisers", is just plain wrong.

Richard Maurer

30 Days of Night

Barry Justice

Ehh OK 🫣 Fcuking Åmål aka Show me love. An excellent teenage drama/comedy. When you are 14-17-ish years old and things gets really complicated 🥰🥰

Björn Karlsson

Yeah I agree TB did kinda run it’s course by he end. It did make me laugh though that they were surprised when a vamp bit someone LOL. Good list and a vamp poll would be a good idea Daybreakers is a pretty good movie if you haven’t see it. Also think she might like Underworld

Dean Holt

@ Richard Maurer and @ Gabor Arki - Was going to mention the same thing. If she can watch "The Shining", she can handle "The Thing". Hoping we can get her to do a "Creature Double Feature" and have her watch "The Thing from Another World" then onto John Carpenter's "The Thing".

Bill Maurer

No problem with you disagreeing and I get your point. But I’m sure she has said before she’s not watching it (could be wrong) and I’m sure she has mentioned The Exorcist is on her not watching list as well. But I do get what you’re saying as war films can be more shocking than horror especially as a lot of them are based on Wars that happened. But just from my own experience when I was in my teens I had no problem watching war and a lot of horror films. But I couldn’t watch supernatural horror as I just couldn’t get my head around that they weren’t real and they would mess with my head. Now I’m older I’m fine watching them but films do have different impact on us all. But yes I know about her advisers as I think it was her last live stream when she read out a couple of movies someone had suggested (sorry can’t remember them). I commented that they could be interesting watches and one of the mods replied to me saying no she definitely won’t be watching them lol.

Dean Holt

I guess you are swedish 😜 LTROI (Låt den rätta komma in) will be perfect 😍 Then a couple of other swedish movies, The girl trilogy and Fcuking Åmål/Show me love. I bet you have seen them. Give them all a request at popcorn request 😉😆🤩 The wailing looks good 🙂

Björn Karlsson

The first couple of seasons maybe. I don't see how anyone could like it much after that.

Richard Maurer

I would say the Slasher part of the genre was dying (and I wouldn't have missed it) but the rest of genre was doing just fine, mostly with the independents, where the best horror has always been anyway. So...thanks, Scream, for that......I guess?

Richard Maurer

The Wailing (Drama, Horror, Mystery, Thriller) Soon after a stranger arrives in a little village, a mysterious sickness starts spreading. A policeman, drawn into the incident, is forced to solve the mystery in order to save his daughter.

Daniel Karlsson

Hate to disagree. With all the war movies she's seen I don't think The Thing would be an issue. But if she never sees it that's her decision. She doesn't really need to be protected against any film by now that fits within her list of content. Plus she has a team to help her determine if she can handle stuff.

David Freese

I wonder if she would like the show True Blood.

Tim Raths

I remember Cassie commenting the vampires in Interview With a Vampire weren't like the ones in Twight, so, to show Cassie what vampires are really supposed to be like how about a vampire movie poll. My suggestions. Horror of Dracula (with the great Christopher Lee) Near Dark Let the Right One In (original, not the US remake) 30 Days of Night Vampires (John Carpenter)

Richard Maurer

Literally everyone's an assassin sums the series up nicely.

Richard Maurer

Same here

Edgar Gonzalez

Talk about "I'm getting too old for this sh*t".

Richard Maurer

Second Dr. Sleep, especially if it's the extended version.

Richard Maurer

I could make a big argument against these movies being suitable for Halloween (except AoD) but this being Cassie's channel I've come to accept it will be mostly weak, non-horror films so whatever.

Richard Maurer

Guys guys she’s not watching The Thing. I think you’ve miss the point of Scary not too Scary the main word hear being NOT 😂. I certainly think Cassie has gotten better with horror films but they is still some that it just not going to be fun for her to watch. Here’s a few suggestions for Scary not too Scary Tucker and Dale Vs Evil (best horror romcom) The Lost Boys Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) Don’t Breathe The Frighteners (1996) The Faculty (1998) Renfield Carly Friendly films The Monster Squad My Best Friend Is a Vampire (1987) Practical Magic The Burbs (Tom Hanks) Happy Death Day Freaky The Craft (1996) Deep Blue Sea The Shallows

Dean Holt

Or she could just wait till after October. Stop trying to take away from our one chance at seeing horror films on Cassie's channel :-( ;-)

Richard Maurer

Yeah it's awesome 😆😆 Give it a request at Popcorn request🙂🙂🙂

Björn Karlsson

If watching the Buffy movie got Cassie to the series then I'm all for it.

Richard Maurer

@ - Brian, Shehab Dawoud - I would say Ringu or Ju-On: The Grudge (not the US remakes, damnit!) are scarier than those movies. But Cassie's not going to lose her mind from watching them either. If Cassie was willing to put them on a poll I'd have a hard time not voting for them.

Richard Maurer

Well, I actually think that Scream 2 is just as good if not better than the original LOL. But I wouldn't recommend the others. Regardless, you can't deny the impact that Scream has had on the genre. Like I said, horror was dying at that point and Scream changed that. That's why it's merited that so many react to it.

Shehab Dawoud

Well, that's the thing with ratings, they don't make sense many times. Are you telling me that the image of Samara's face and the faces of her victims is less scary than some of the films you mentioned, some of which have no supernatural element? Come on...

Shehab Dawoud

I recommended Ip Man for a Asian Martial Arts poll. If it ever gets done It would be interesting to see how it would do. I doubt it could beat big movies like Enter the Dragon or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, but you never know.

Richard Maurer

Yes my opinions can be salty, but that doesn't make them any less correct (as a opinion can be, anyway) ;-) I get why some people like Scream (the first one, anyway) but it's just not my thing. I'd would almost be okay with doing Scream just to get it out of the way if it weren't for the inevitable "Now do Scream 2 through whatever!" comments that would follow. I find Scream barely tolerable, but the money-grab sequels are garbage.

Richard Maurer

Sure I know it, but go ahead and say it anyway ;-)

Richard Maurer

@ Gábor Árki - I would tend to agree. The Thing is more of a suspense than jump scare type of a horror film. But it is a very suspenseful film and the premise itself is horrifying so who knows how it would affect her. As for the other suggestions here I haven't really seen any so far that would be "too much for Cassie" - If they really were I'd point them out to her.

Richard Maurer

The nearly 3-hour runtime doesn't help either. 😀 And the world they started expanding in the sequels just getting more and more implausible IMO.

Gábor Árki

that's fried rice you plick 😂, one of the few franchises I like every movie.

Dean Holt

Your instincts on JOHN WICK 4 are very sound.

Mike LL

Okay, the PG-13 "The Ring" is a bridge too far, yet you're recommending in a post above "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (1974), "The Omen" (1976), "Friday the 13th" (1980), "Halloween II" (1981), and "The Fly" (1986), all of which are rated R and contain heavy gore imagery? C'mon now!

Brian

Hahaha I love Dog Soldiers (2002). Totally badass movie. 😁

Zane From Canada

Scary but not too scary suggestions: the old Universal Monsters movies. You watched Frankenstein (1931) last year, but there are so many more movies from that 1930s/1940s time period that really hold up to this day! Dracula (1931), The Mummy (1932), The Invisible Man (1933), The Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Son of Frankenstein (1939), The Wolf Man (1941), and The Creature From The Black Lagoon (1954). Those are the absolute must see, but I'd also recommend Dracula's Daughter (1936), The Mummy's Hand (1940), The Invisible Man Returns (1940), The Phantom of the Opera (1925 - silent), The Phantom of the Opera (1943), Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948 - comedy), and Abbott and Costello Meet The Invisible Man (1951 - comedy). None of these would be too scary. I think Carly could enjoy these too. Perhaps to narrow them down, I say that the absolute top tier of these would be The Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Invisible Man, and The Wolf Man.

John Fode

That's right

nick bell

She watched 28 Days Later last year.

Tim Raths

The imagery in The Ring is scary though, even if it's only 2-3 times during the film. I'm as big of a Horror fan as they come and even I don't rewatch The Ring or The Grudge because of the visuals. Think it's a bridge too far.

Shehab Dawoud

Not a great week in my opinion. Barbie was ok though. The other two? eh. Scary, not too scary? Lost Boys The Thing ( gross, awesome, long overdue but not very scary imo) Scream The Craft ....to name a few

nick bell

Trollhunter, Dog soldiers, Lamb and Let the right one in is better imo 🙂 Devil's advocate is OK 😀

Björn Karlsson

Dog soldiers and Trollhunter 😊😊

Björn Karlsson

Has Cassie seen Rocky Horror? That might have to be in the October mix. I haven't seen The Exorcist since I saw it as when I was twelve and definitely found it too scary then, but maybe it wouldn't be so scary now, but it's a very good movie. Ditto Deliverance. I Walked With A Zombie is one of the few 1940s horror films that is not cheesy and is legitimately creepy. If she hasn't seen The Nightmare Before Christmas she must do so. Titus, the 1999 version of Titus Andronicus starring Anthony Hopkins, is one of the greatest Shakespeare films and is certainly gory enough to be Halloween fare, as would be one of the many adaptations of Macbeth (especially Kurosawa's Throne of Blood). Also maybe a Vincent Price film?

jdj830

Hope you feel better soon

Joshua Stormont

I don't think that project has even been greenlit by the studio, just Gibson did some teasing last year maybe to help push the project forward. Even if so, the writer and actor strikes will delay it further.

Gábor Árki

Ditto: As far as I am concerned, DH3 is 1st, DH4 is 2nd, DH1 is 3rd and DH2 is 4th. They are all good. DH5, they did not even try. Die Hard 4 will be a great watch with Carly.

TomJulio

Happy Death Day, Freaky, and M3gan are good Scary But Not Too Scary movies. (Freaky's original title was "Freaky Friday the 13th" which really gives you an idea of the tone of the movie.)

sarCC

Saw (2004) - still waiting for that one since the announcement last year.

Mike Lemon

Well, I'm happy to say that it's slightly starting to cool down a bit here on the West Coast, the nights are getting a lot cooler and I'm lovin' it lol! Believe me, I love the fall/winter as much as you do! I love the cold, I breath better in the cold than I do in the heat! I'm really looking forward to 4 factor, watching the 4th installments of certain franchises, I especially am looking forward to your reaction to Lethal Weapon 4, been eager since I watched your reaction to 3 lol! I'm certainly interested in your reaction to Indy 4, while I admit it's a good movie, but does have it's flaws, I still enjoy watching it when I can, although I admit it doesn't quite hold a candle up to the original 3, but that's just me! I would like to hear your opinion after you watch it! John Wick 4, call me crazy I still haven't seen any of them up to this point, I know something's wrong with me lol🤣 No comment on the Barbie movie, sorry! Also, I'm sorry I won't be able to make it for Trivia Night, working all day😭 I must say though, you sure are a trooper for wanting to go through with it despite being sick, personally I say you should postpone it till you get better, but if you really feel like you want to do it, then go for it! For your sake, I hope you don't have COVID, I pray for you to get better soon Cassie, my heart and prayers go out to you! As for SCARY/NOT TOO SCARY movie recommendations I could make for you this Halloween season, well, TBH the horror genre is one of my least favorites in movies, there are very few in number of horror movies that I actually enjoy watching, you've already watched two horror movies that I like last year, that being Sleepy Hollow and A Nightmare On Elm Street, which I enjoyed immensely your reactions too lol! However, there are a few others that I can highly recommend for you to watch that are compatable not only for you, but maybe for Carly as well! Here's what I recommend (no spoilers): ARMY OF DARKNESS (1992) - Technically the third installment of Sam Rami's Evil Dead franchise, but it's good enough as a standalone film to watch while it also recaps the first two films (kind of) but it's got the perfect Halloween/Spooky vibes, with a lot of humor to keep you from getting spooked, and with a good lair of cheese to go with it lol! Definitely compatable with Carly if you watch it together! Stars B-movie king actor Bruce Campbell! FROM HELL (2001) - A thriller, and somewhat fictional/non-fictional, retelling of the infamous serial killer who was never caught in Victorian Era England, Jack the Ripper! It's got a good mystery vibe with a dark atmosphere! Stars Johnny Depp and Heather Graham! Not compatable with Carly! THE UNIVERSAL CLASSIC MONSTERS (1931-1954) - While technically you've already watched Frankenstein, you still need to see the likes of Dracula, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, The Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolfman, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Creature From the Black Lagoon! I love these classics, while they maybe a little tamed by today's standards when it comes to the horror genre, but these films have stood the test of time and it was these movies that put Universal Studios on the map ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN (1948) - The perfect scary but not to scary classic horror/comedy that I know you and Carly would thoroughly enjoy watching! And it demonstrates the "what-if" these famous comedians crossed paths with Frankensteins' monster! HELLBOY (2004) - While technically a super hero movie, it's got those perfect vibes of spookiness thanks to it's dark atmosphere and some of the monsters that you see in it, but at the same time, it's fun, entertaining, and action packed! Stars the great Ron Pearlman in the title role! I'd say this is Carly compatable! UNDERWORLD (2003) - I call this one an Action/Horror film, and it's a franchise with 4 sequels! A movie about a seceret war between the Vampires and Lycans (Werewolves) that's been going on for centuries! It's got a perfect spooky vibe, while being action packed at the same time, with a bit of a gothic atmosphere! Stars the oh so amazing and lovely Kate Beckinsale as a bad-A heroine! I would say these are Carly compatable! THE WOLFMAN (2010) - Technically a remake of the original 1941 version, but setting in Victorian Era England, and it was unfortunately a box-office bomb, but I really liked it! It's got a good spooky and dark atmosphere, and each of it's actors do very well performances! It somewhat feels like a Tim Burton movie, but it's not, mostly thanks to the score by composer Danny Elfman, whose worked with Tim Burton on a lot of movies! Stars Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, and Hugo Weaving! Probably not compatable to Carly (maybe) lol! There you have it, my recommendations for SCARY/NOT TOO SCARY Halloween movies to watch this season! Hope you'll consider doing reactions to most or all of them, I wouldn't steer you wrong! Just to let you know that the item(s) I have for you and Carly when you two watch The Mummy (1999) has arrived, and I'll send them out to you this Thursday! Hope you get better soon Cassie, like I said, my heart and prayers go out to you! Love and support always, [virtual hug] God bless you, Carly, and your family! And as always [snaps fingers & winks] stay classy Cassie🥰😁😉😇🙏👍🌹

Wesley White

@Richard Maurer LOL I remember us having these conversations last year and I came to the conclusion that I had to take your opinions with a truck full of salt XD. At least you agreed with the rest, that's always something!

Shehab Dawoud

After Lethal Weapon, I hope that the next buddy cop series could be Rush Hour. Some people will say that they haven't aged well, but I'd say that's more of a result of these over-sensitive times we live in than the actual material. The first two films are absolutely hilarious, and the chemistry between Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan hasn't been matched by many other duos.

Shehab Dawoud

I recommend Secret Window (2004) starring Johnny Depp as a SCARY BUT NOT TOO SCARY movie.

G

According to Mel Gibson, filming will commence on the fifth and final Lethal Weapon movie in 2023, but is there any news on it lately?

Greggory Shaw

LTROI is the second best swedish movie ever made imo, as a swede (read "reaction wurthy") The best is.... yeah you know it 🫠😉😁

Björn Karlsson

I hope you start feeling better soon. There is no fall yet here, it still feels like summer with 30°C. I can't even remember having to use my AC this late in September. I mean heating season is starting on September 15. BARBIE, I honestly wasn't sure I would ever be going to watch it on my own, but a reaction may convince me to give it a try. LETHAL WEAPON 4, I am really looking forward to that and very interested to see a reaction to the end of this franchise. INDY 4, I think would make for a good reaction. Despite having my fair share of issues with the movie I just don't see Cassie not liking it, especially for a first-time watch. JOHN WICK 4, that one I'm pushing forward for months now but simply can't make myself to start watching it. With the 2nd and 3rd being nothing more than "shoot 'em up" I think I just lost all interest. Horror is my least favorite genre and besides THE THING I believe every other of my favorites has been reacted to already. But some suggestions for scary but not too scary movies: PRACTICAL MAGIC (1998) Not scary at all, but rather a bit witchy and spooky, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. If you're looking for something easy to watch with Carly that has Halloween vibes, this is a good candidate. THE VILLAGE (2004) I think a really underrated movie of Shyamalan. It is more of a mystery thriller, the level of scariness is around SIGNS and within PG13 boundaries, and I think even Carly would be able to handle it.

Gábor Árki

Even though Cassie seems scared about it, I honestly think she would be able to handle The Thing better than some other suggestions people trying to make her watch, or even some she already reacted to (like The Shining).

Gábor Árki

Buffy would be a great Carly choice!

Barry Justice

Please do react to Secretariat. I think you will enjoy the real life story.

Mike McLaughlin

I am an apologist for Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I hated it on first watch but the second time around (years later) I found it to be charming and somewhat better than Temple of Doom. It’s a worthy addition to the franchise especially if you include Fate of Atlantis and Young Indy as canon - these things aren’t high art. I’ll be interested in the reaction. My horror suggestion would be Dr Sleep. It’s the sequel to the Shining and it is awesome.

Jacob King

We need a reaction to The Fly (1986)!

Aaron Ritchie

I’ve recommended Wait Until Dark so many times! I hope one day she’ll watch it.

Aaron Ritchie

People aren’t haters because they don’t like some thing. It’s called an opinion. Not everybody likes everything. Calling someone that is just a cliché thing youth say today because they are unoriginal.

Michael Lynch

Also, am glad to know that, despite the pic up above, trivia is not a formal event. I'll keep the smoking jacket in storage.

2-Can

Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein - plan a brief comedy respite for your month.

2-Can

So SCARY BUT NOT TOO SCARY. Hmm, tricky. In the end, it comes down to personal taste. Or in this case, personal fear factor level. 😁 Some that I think could be good ones. Wait Until Dark (1967) with Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin. Gremlins (1984) Could also appear in the Christmas Poll Don't Say A Word (2001) with Michael Douglas. You like him. 😁 Panic Room (2002) with Jodie Foster and Forest Whitaker

Zane From Canada

I will not watch Indy4 because I hate the fact that it was made. This uninspired cash grab should be avoided at all costs by everyone who liked the real indy movies. It is disrespectful and no one involved in its production should ever have gotten any work in the film industry ever again. At least everyone with any creative control. This is one of the few movies where I hope people don't like it.

Dioskur

But... how does that make him wrong?

Dioskur

I will also throw out Life After Beth (2014) for the public's consideration. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2581244/

Happy Hanukkah

As a not-too-scary movie, I recommend Army of Darkness (1992) [theatrical version]. I hope that your Halloween Comedy poll will include the classic Arsenic and Old Lace (1944), starring Cary Grant. (Hat tip Mike LL.)

Happy Hanukkah

For trivia night, which one of you is going to be "Guesses Galore?" LOL! For "Scary/Not Scary movies, you could do the Halloween Town movies! They are pretty fun!

Craig Russell

As someone who doesn't like (and has never liked) Indy 4, I honestly loved the 5th movie to bits and it's puzzling why part of the internet hates it. But anyway, I think that's why she's watching the fourth movie. Because she plans to see the 5th.

Caomhan84

Seconding Ip Man (2008). (No need to Four-Factor this series.)

Happy Hanukkah

Well, wasn’t planning on it. But it looks like I’m watching the Barbie movie after all 😊 Should be fun!

Robert da Spruce

Are you going to do the fifth Indiana Jones movie after you watch the fourth one? It’s honestly really good. Please don’t listen to the haters saying to skip it.

Adam Grunther

I've been craving another Gilmore Girls watch all year, but do have to start it at the right time of year

Tringard

I hope you get to watch Carrie (1976) in October. I’m not a huge horror movie fan but that’s one of the few that I do like. It was also directed by Brian DePalma who directed The Untouchables and the first Mission: Impossible film. I hope you feel better soon.

Tim Raths

If you decide to watch the third place animal movie in October it would make a great break from the Scary but not too Scary lineup.

Andrew Rose

The Haunted Mansion and The Five Fingers of Death, respectively, iMo.😁

james flack

She did Ghostbusters a long time ago.

Tim Raths

The Mist, really? Don’t do that to them. A Stephen King poll would be cool.

John P Tucker

Could watch Dr. Sleep the sequel to the shining. The young boy Danny all grown up.

John P Tucker

I think they already did a reaction to Tremors, and Ghostbusters.

John P Tucker

Scary but not too scary. 1)Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man. 2)Tremors with Reba Mcentire. 3)The Mummy with Brendan Frasier. 4)Buffy the Vampire Slayer (The Movie). 5)Fright Night! 8)Ghostbusters. 7)Day of the Triffids.

Allen W. McDonnell

Scary but not too scary: The Lost Boys, The Burbs, Dracula Untold (origin story), The Mummy, The Wolfman, Silver Bullet, Van Helsing.

John P Tucker

Yes, Lethal Weapon 4, I been waiting for Rene Russo, had the biggest crush on her :)

Greggory Shaw

I did recommend that for a Classic Horror poll. Maybe it'll be on there - if it ever happens. PS Your last name is cool too, again.

Richard Maurer

Scream is one of my least favorite horror films. Not scary, and all the "cool" self-referential stuff just got on my nerves after awhile. Plus too many reactors have already done it.

Richard Maurer

I know most won't agree mostly because it seems like no one will read subtitles anymore, but the original Japanese version, Ringu, is far superior.

Richard Maurer

"The Thing from Another World" is just a great movie. Great from start to finish. Hoping she gets this on her list Thanks

Bill Maurer

Agree. I keep saying that about "The Searchers" but you know how that goes. PS: Nice last name, again.

Bill Maurer

Scary-but-not-too-scary Halloween film: "The Ring" (2002). It's more Gothic mystery thriller than horror (which I think it unfairly gets categorized as). There is no gore and it's PG-13. Plus, Naomi Watts adds gravitas which elevates it to more than just your average spooky movie! That said, looking forward to "Barbie" and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull"! And Trivia Quiz night!

Brian

This is The Thing's year - I hope any way.

Richard Maurer

A Classic Horror poll would fit right in with the "scary, but not too scary" theme. Oh, and a Asian Martial Arts poll would fit well any time after that.

Richard Maurer

First one was good, rest were just money-grabs.

Richard Maurer

No to Scream - overrated and over-done (by reactors). Agree with all the rest though.

Richard Maurer

Barbie: Never seen it. No comment. Lethal Weapon 4: I might have never seen it, don't really remember. It could be good. Indy 4: I'm truly excited to watch this reaction. I've seen the movie so am super curious about the reaction. John Wick 4: I've tried to watch the movie a couple times and just got stuck. Was this movie really necessary? Am no longer interested in seeing any John Wick movies. Scary but not So Scary October: Really good concept, but as horror is not my thing, I can only look back to last October where there were a few real gems, reaction-wise. I hope this October is the same. Funny/Light Halloween movie: As Arsenic and Old Lace is the ideal funny Halloween move (it actually takes place on Halloween!)(It has Cary Grant!) I don't understand why a lot of reactors have not reacted to it for Halloween. Oh right, it's an old movie. I know it can't possibly win a poll, but I hope it gets watched. The Mummy: This will be a great epic reaction for October.

Mike LL

Let the Right One In is much better than the American remake - imo (but to be fair, my opinion is almost always correct).

Richard Maurer

Why!?!?!?!

William Bryan

Scream? Sure hope not.

Richard Maurer

🫠 oh Cassie liked that, maybe there is a chance this year (fingers crossed) 😃😃

Björn Karlsson

Hi Cassie. Yes, I'll be there for trivia. I'm, what you could say, a trivia junkie. As a matter of fact, I'm doing some bar trivia tonight! It's called Challenge Entertainment Live Trivia and it's nationwide. BTW, I have an Uncle and Aunt live in Utah as well but are originally from California. He worked for Boeing for many, many years and is now retired and living close to the Bryce Canyon area.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

It's not. This is the price it's been to rent or own a movie before it's physical release for years now.

aarswft

Ok, first and foremost feel better! Secondly I just had an evil thought about October! I'd almost pay extra to see you RE-WATCH 'The Shining' but WITH CARLY THIS TIME! *Evil scary October laugh* BWA-HAHAHAHAHHA! 🤣😂🤣😂

'Pappy' Johnston

Great, great movie.

Just Plain Bob

Personally, I always liked the American remake, "Let Me In" a whole lot better. But on the other hand, I liked the original TGWTDT better, go figure? 🤷‍♂️💛

james flack

I would love to see reactions to both. The Thing From Another World is an under appreciated gem and John Carpenter’s film is my personal favorite movie. And Who Goes There?, the novella that both films are based on, is one of the all time best sci-fi/horror stories.

Just Plain Bob

Feel better soon Cassie! I'm looking forward to the Barbie reaction!

kaiielle

One and the same. Both great movies !!

Bill Maurer

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Stuart Guthrie

Glad someone else said it. Terrible franchise. Dude says 5 words in 2-3 hours and kills 200 people. Why would anyone pay to watch that stuff over and over?

Shehab Dawoud

Cassie I hope you feel better. Also I am excited for john wick 4 more then anything barbie I may have too wait till prime makes it cheaper

MatthewBrown74m

One of the best vampire movies ever made imo 🙂

Björn Karlsson

First time I watched Gilmore Girls my mom said they talked very fast! And I am Thee Original Thee One and Only Gilmore Guy! And proud of it!!!

Randolph Tirazona

Why not?

Shehab Dawoud

Hello Mr. Schwarber! Goodbye Mr. Spalding! 🤗😎

james flack

I was disappointed in John Wick 4. It's more of the same. With the edition of Donnie Yen I was hoping that somehow it would be more than a generic Wick shoot em up. It's going to be a rough reaction for Cassie. I do hope she reacts to Ip Man to see Donnie Yen's greatness.

Andrew Ramos

100% facts. Love Let The Right One In

Daniel Skinner

Or Near Dark. Great romance there

Daniel Skinner

The Thing is awesome. With Kurt Russell, if that helps. 😁

Pickupthepieces76

No Friday the 13.

Daniel Skinner

Yep, in Europe it is the middle of the night then, so we're out too. Pretty much miss them all, except if it's in the weekend in their afternoon. But I understand, it is what it is.

Pickupthepieces76

Oh our hitting will be fine, it's our pitching that worries me

William Bryan

Well, I guess one good movie this week will do. I love Jet Li.

Michael Lynch

Barbie, hard pass. It just came up on Amazon Prime as the most expensive movie to rent or buy I have ever seen on it. Indian Jones should have stopped at #3. Lethal Weapon ... all of them are great with me. I remember seeing The Ghost and the Darkness when it came out and really liked it. Shocking that this was based on a true story. Love Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer working together.

Richard Bourne

It's about time you watched 2001: A Space Odyssey. That's the movie that's being spoofed at the beginning of Barbie, and it has animals in it, and you have seen so many references to it in movies and commercials etc, and you just need to see it. I'm not sure that Carly would like it, and you might get impatient with it, but I do think it's well worth your time and it would be fun to see you react to it.

jdj830

Well, I guess ONE Comedy Halloween movie is acceptable but not more than that. The same goes for other films that aren't really horror but more thrillers, adventures, or other genres. For example, I know The Mummy is being watched, and that's cool, I love that movie... but I hope not too many of those types of movies will take away a spot from an actual HORROR film. We're allowed to push the boundaries a little bit more in year 3, without getting too hardcore. I felt like last year was a step back in that aspect compared to 2021. Hope that's not the case this year. Anyway, I'll repost my recommendations from the pinned thread in hopes that it'll be seen if it hasn't already. All of them are very manageable, and I'm being sincere. Night of The Living Dead (1968): Zombies. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974): Truly iconic. The Omen (1976): A classic that for some reason doesn't get as much love as others. Not spoiling anything though, want it to be completely blind. Carrie (1976): Based on one of Stephen King's best works. That's all I'll say about that. The Fog (1980): Ghost Pirates. Directed by John Carpenter who did Halloween. Features Jamie Lee Curtis AND her mother Janet Leigh, which is so cool. Friday The 13th (1980): To complete 'The Big 3' of Halloween, Friday The 13th, and A Nightmare On Elm Street. Halloween 2 (1981): We need Michael Myers back, two years without him is too much! If you ignore all the other sequels, this one actually gives some closure. Fright Night (1985): Don't let the name put you off, I think you'd really like it. It has that 80s High School vibe that Christine also had. The Fly (1986): A little bit of body horror never hurt anyone. Scream (1996): The movie that single-handedly revived the horror genre when it looked like it was dead. The Blair Witch Project (1999): The one that made found footage films relevant. The Mist (2007): Another Stephen King adaptation. People know why I'm suggesting this. The Witch (2015): Folk horror directed by the brilliant Robert Eggers who has a very clear style. Anya Taylor-Joy's breakout role. The Lighthouse (2019): Also directed by Robert Eggers. Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe as two lighthouse keepers on a rock out in the middle of nowhere. What could go wrong?!

Shehab Dawoud

I can't wait for Turner and hooch,, and as far as light Halloween movies go I hope the midnight hour (1985) is on there,, Cassie still needs some romance in this October

Manuel Villacana

I hope you get better. Plus yes you can do trivia in PJs if needed! 😁 Barbie I can't understand the hoopla but I'll try and watch it through. The other 2 though is in my wheelhouse and look forward to watching them with you. Get rest and let's have some fun together tomorrow night!! 😉. Suggestion for October I think it would be fun to watch Identity with John Cusack. I'd think you'd enjoy it .

David Freese

Congratulations William on clinching the division, I'll be looking for you in the stands tonight on TV. (Hope you catch a Matt Olson FOUL ball)😁

james flack

Scary but not too scary = Let the right one in 😉

Björn Karlsson

I hope you choose Die Hard 4.0 also for Factor Four week with Carly. I wish you a speedy recovery Cassie

ROBERT CLARK

I hope you get around to watching Die Hard 4 at some point. I know there are a lot of people who don’t like it but It’s my second favorite of the franchise and I think you’d enjoy it too. Lethal weapons 4 is a great movies too. I’m interested to see your reaction to Indiana Jones 4. Feel better soon.

Alex Gorell

Pity I cannot watch the trivia night. It will be on around 11.30 in Sydney time , so I will be working. Always going to be impossible picking a time that suits everyone.

Brian McGovern

Marvelous! Looking forward to the coming weeks. I'd like to suggest adding Die Hard 4 aka Live Free Or Die Hard to Four Factor Week. Another opportunity to have Carly back! 😁

Zane From Canada

People who watch Indiana Jones 4 with fresh eyes seem to like it, so I'm curious what you think of it. But it is necessary to watch it before you see Indiana Jones 5 (which I happened to love and I have seen 5 times since June 😂). Feel better Cassie!

Caomhan84

How about "The Thing" from John Carpenter? Or the original "Thing from Another World" ?

Bill Maurer

Oh yay! I've been excited to see your reaction to Lethal Weapon 4! I know a lot of people think it's the weakest of the bunch, but I really like it and I think you will too.

Patrick Egan

Lethal weapon 4 is awesome!

Edgar Gonzalez

You're not gonna watch Scream or The Devil's Advocate are you? 😂

William Bryan
