[YT Edit] Platoon (1986)

Hey guys! Switching up the order a bit this week. Here is the YT edit for Platoon, which will premiere shortly. Hope you enjoy!

Here is the full reaction to this movie.

[YT Edit] Platoon (1986)

Comments

Oliver stone served in Nam and made a whole trilogy that includes Born on the 4th of July and Heaven & Earth. Would recommend seeing the other two for sure!

AC5555

While in college in 1986, I watched Platoon in the theater. Stunning. Nothing like it before then.

Clay F

Humans, capable of all that killing and torture but somehow also capable of creating a movie that moves you to tears.

Ria Grix

Well obviously, as the noble Japanese in the Co-Prosperity Sphere were much more humane and civilized than those cowboy Yanks in Vietnam! [Yes, that was sarcasm (:eyeroll:), definitely not directed at Shawn or even particularly at the movies.]

Happy Hanukkah

Cassie, I know you said The Bridge on the River Kwai is on the agenda. Just so you know it's a much more pleasant viewing experience than Platoon.

Shawn Kildal

Platoon’s probably the most raw Vietnam film- one of the very few where you see Americans committing war crimes. Apocalypse Now is a dark but in a more stylised way where as platoon feels very real.

Jonathan Fearby

Cassie, I get the feeling that after this it will be a long time before you watch Apocalypse Now, but I don't think you'll find that movie nearly as difficult emotionally as Full Metal Jacket and Platoon were. War movies always have rough scenes, but overall Apocalypse Now isn't really trying to drive home the same message as this, and is less concerned with what seemed to bother you so much about these movies. I predict you won't be anywhere near as traumatized by it as you were with these other two.

Stranger2Reality

Joyeux Noel is one that you need to watch based on true events in WWI. It is a perfect December watch

Dissonant Bard

If you want to watch a war movie of the less grueling kind, I will again recommend Their Finest (2016). It's a British movie that didn't get enough attention over here. It's about people living through The Blitz (i.e. the bombings) in London while trying to make an inspiring propaganda film about the miracle of Dunkirk. It's definitely a drama, but it includes a lot of comic relief at the expense of the movie business and it will entertain you instead of eating at your soul the way Platoon does.

David Conroy

It is well that war is so terrible, otherwise we should grow too fond of it. Robert E. Lee

Mark Ultimatemusings

Just remembered Tom Berringer and Charlie Sheen also starred in Major League together.

Shawn Kildal

Elias survived by the way - deleted scene - https://youtu.be/NPzCF2r573o?t=404

Benjamin Gerrald

All I can say is, be glad this was not hamburger hill.

Benjamin Gerrald

The Deer Hunter!

Celeste McAllister

Wasn't it Rhett Butler(Clark Gable) whom said "Frankly My Dear I Don't Give a Damn!"..Not much changes for the best, just flip flops from one generation to the next.✌😎

Celeste McAllister

Celeste, what was it Clark Gable said, about war, in GWTW? Something about a waste, or destroying what it protects? Ironically, things haven't changed that much, even to this day. Sad!!......🤔

james flack

Not really, but you got a shout out!!!

Todzilla

Same here,I still have the full view in my head😲

Celeste McAllister

Did she set a new OMG record?🍷♨

Celeste McAllister

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG! 😍❤

Celeste McAllister

Sorry I missed most of the primiere. I'll rewatch it tonight

David Freese

Cassie, great reaction as always. I knew you would have a hard time with some of the scenes.

Stuart Guthrie

Great job, I so rarely get to watch premiers as they happen! Platoon is a movie I watched in college many times. I had relatives there and in college I made friends with vets who served there. On more than three occasions I had vets tell me the movie was so real it felt like a flashback and I watched one veteran break down and collapse during a battle scene when the voice track was Vietnamese language battle cries. The movie is very intense especially if you are sensitive to the suffering of others and it is based on real life letters home. My eldest sisters husband spent two years over there and my oldest brother only avoided the draft by marrying and having a child as he graduated high school making him exempt.

Allen W. McDonnell

THE. BEST. WAR. MOVIE. EVER!!!!!!

Norrin Radd

That might be my favorite moment ever in a movie. Just an absolutely perfectly crafted joke.

Stranger2Reality

That's true. They both do.

Zane From Canada

Never saw Hot Shots but I heard it has humor in the same vein as Airplane.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

This movie is rough very difficult to watch you’re a brave young woman

Doc Larry

Zane From Canada

I also second Hamburger Hill.

Todzilla
