Jeff Rogers Gun companies and the NRA are separate things. Also, the NRA is a member organisation. Saying they have an "outsized" level of influence doesn't make any sense. Their power comes from the fact that they have a lot of votes when combined. If the members change their views the organisation is finished. Thats democratic.

Was just going to say this. A CIVIL ACTION is excellent. I like RUNAWAY JURY and ERIN BROCKOVICH, but the former is a cartoon and the latter is a fairy tale.
A CIVIL ACTION is a great movie about a real case handled responsibly. Steven Zaillian is a genius.

Cassie, you and Carly need to watch "The Sure Thing," which was John Cusack's first major movie role.

I highly recommend 1993's Dazed & Confused, celebrating it's 30th anniversary coming up on September 10th. An all-time classic. A fantastic "last day of school/coming of age"film, which introduced the world to Matthew McConaughey(as well as Ben Affleck).

Cass and Carly always make me won’t to be better at using my Franklin Covey planner. Every year I buy the refills and then hardly ever use them.

Yep. And if you want to see him in another great courtroom scene, check out the movie The Insider. He's amazing in one scene in that movie (he only had a small part).

My mom and I have both been called for jury duty several times but always called the number the night before and said we didn't have to go.

She already did Say Anything. The best movie of his she hasn't done is Grosse Pointe Blank. [Late edit: I can't believe I forgot Better Off Dead.]

The judge was played by Bruce McGill. He was the Sheriff in My Cousin Vinny, and I think he was the congressman in Legally Blonde 2. He wasn't in the first one.

You know, I was a competitve shooter as a teenager. I had a moment, but I screwed up because my coach didn't tell me how I did, so I presumed I screwed up. Not so, I shot a 100 9xm beating a Junior Olympian who shot a 100 5x, but then fell short on my 2nd target as I thought I had screwed up. I have been an NRA member all my life and finally a few years ago paid the money to be a life member only to see the NRA go to hell. If you hate the NRA, you should be happy, it is over.

They are great, but I still hate the subject matter of this movie. It is dangerous, and the younger generaions simply don't realize that.

Cassie, Rachel Weisz was in a courtroom drama called Denial (2016) which is based on a true story.

I agree with the people saying you need to watch The Rainmaker for your next courtroom drama. Another kinda overlooked quality courtroom drama is A Civil Action with John Travolta. A little similar to Erin Brokovich in that it's based on a true story about contaminated water poisoning a town, only this was back in Massachusetts rather than out in California.

The NRA is in shambles and a mere shadow of what it once was due to Wayne LaPierre and his corruption. Most gun companies are very small. Even Sturm Ruger & Company Inc, AFTER it bought Marlin still has a market cap of under one billion. A gun is a tool, a tool that can take lives or save lives depending on the user. Don't blame the tool.

I think you would also like "A civil action" very much. It really is a hidden gem. It's a courtroom drama based on a real case. And the acting is stellar, which is no suprise, because it features Robert Duvall, John Travolta, William H. Macy, James Gandolfini and many other well known actors. Too bad most people don't even know this movie exists.

Right.... And the NRA hasn't had an outsized level of influence over legislation either.
Let's all weep for the companies that make guns. (And since I can't expect too much from conservatives, let me spell it out... That was sarcasm)

Oh wait, now I remember why I largely forgot this movie, but it was a shameless anti-gun plot. You know, gun companies are not like oil, chemical, high tech, or auto manufacturers, they have far less money and influence.

Great cast. I somewhat remember this, in particular parts of it seems unlikely work with the passive influences used. Too perfect if you know what I mean. Very few cases can afford a jury consultant and to spend so much on voir dire which is the jury selection process.
