Comments

"As the lone surviving member of the SP[ecial] E[xecutive for] C[ounter-intelligence,] T[errorism,] R[evenge and] E[xtortion] let me just say I loved this ending!! Now where is Q's cat, she looks sexy..." - Mr. Bigglesworth

Andrew Roach

Notice the line, "You have all the time in the world."? It's a call back to what Bond says to his dead wife at the end of, "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", and then they finish with Louie Armstrong's song "All The Time in The World". again a call back to that death.

Javier Hernandez

Thanks for that, just watched it!

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Films are about conflict and drama. Bond having a happy life with a wife and kids, isn't drama.

Sean

Its now

Sean

@hat Exactly. Safrin is barely even in the movie, and was one of the weakest villains in the entire series.

granny_goodness

What time is the livestream going to be?

Tim Raths

Nope. Mopey James Bond sucks.

Patrick Flanagan

Another enjoyable reaction in the Bond series. A great end to Craig's Bond. Bravo

FischerMax98

No, they’re not. Their box office grosses are inflated because ticket prices are much higher today than when Connery was Bond. For instance, adjusted for inflation, Thunderball made $1.27 billion. Skyfall, the highest grossing Craig film, made $1.11 billion. Also, the world population (and, therefore the number of potential viewers) was less than half the current population during the Connery era. So, adjusting for available viewers, the Connery version was more than twice as popular/successful.

This is one of my New Favorite Things. Thank You. I had tears in my eyes all the way through. Holy Cow, who is Ella Chambers?! Her singing For Your Eyes Only was The Best Part. What a Voice!! Also, I never realized how Beautiful the Moonraker song was. :-):-):-)

Larry Darrell

I second this

Liam Maguire

Licence to Kill (1989) was a Perfect Ending... too.

Larry Darrell

Well, I'm not an Eon shareholder, unfortunately, so that fact doesn't mean an awful lot to me.

Henry Graham

He only died once so far. It sets a bad precedent. What actor is not going to want to end his tenure as Bond with a glorious death going forward? I say again, Bond should never die. Period.

Stick Figure Studios

It's the perfect ending for Craig's Bond story. I don't know how they will reboot/remake it, but it will be fun to watch.

Sean

Sorry it did nothing for you, but these are the most successful Bond films of all time 😍

Sean

He's only died once. Its a nice change.

Sean

I find it funny when people say that the villains motivation isn't fleshed out enough or doesn't make sense. These are people who only have evil or crazy outlooks on life. They are not always people you can understand, welcome to the real world.

Sean

I did not know this existed. Thanks.

Sean

Killing Bond isn’t illegal, letting him live happily is.

Trevor Rotan

You can find it on the Access Hollywood Twitter page. You don’t need to be logged in to watch it.

Tim Raths

Bond wins in this movie. He found something *worth* dying for, finally. He killed the bad guy, saved the world and protected those he loved. That’s a win for the hero — his death just makes it all the more heroic.

Calum Provan

Great reaction. I’m glad you both appreciated that it is an amazing movie. Some think because the ending is sad that makes the movie bad. The fact that it is so heartbreaking means the movie worked. It is allowed to make the audience feel. Incredible last film for Craig. Please go back and watch more of the Bonds that you skipped! :)

Calum Provan

Very well put.

Petteri Ahlberg

I just tried looking for the interview on YouTube but it's not there

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Excellent summation of my feelings regarding the Craig era (with the exception of Casino Royale, which I loved).

Just Plain Bob

The film prioritized the family aspect, and neglected a central element of a great Bond film, the villain. Perhaps if Safrin was fleshed out more, and it truly was a fight among equals, with clear consequences... I would like the ending more. You could leave all the family stuff in there as well. Now my fear is, instead of realizing what made this franchise last so long, they instead, are going to keep pushing the formula further. Not many franchises last this long, they need to modernize, but keep the core formula going... at least in my opinion.

Hat

That's about the best summation of the whole Craig series that I have read.

Mike LL

And Q (Ben Whishaw) is in it, too.

BlueChip300

Yeh saving the world is certainly a purpose, but all of it is directed by the government, he is a weapon to execute their purpose. Having a family finally gives him a personal reason I guess, he’s saving the world again but this time there are people he cares about in it. I just like to think he’s at peace in the end.

Ria Grix

James Bond will return. :-/

Happy Hanukkah

Over the course of these five films I have - at best - tolerated the producers' determination to create a sense of continuity between films, but the strenuous efforts to serialise Bond and create a backstory for his character became an albatross for the Craig run, and I'm glad it's over. I got bored of Léa Seydoux and especially Christoph Waltz's characters a long time before Spectre ended and had little interest in seeing them again here, and this whole series of films has assumed a greater emotional investment in Craig's relationship with Eva Green than I could ever muster. The only time this unbelievably longwinded and self-serious movie springs into life is when Ana de Armas is on screen - for about ten minutes the film remembers it's OK to be a fun and sexy adventure, and I hope that's a lesson learned for whatever the next version of Bond turns out to be.

Henry Graham

I'm curious where EON Productions goes from here. While I did like that all of Daniel Craig's stories were related, I'd like to see some of the John Gardner stories (who took up the character in his novels after Ian Flemming had died.) made into film. I can see that being next, as I believe all of the Flemming books have been done. And I agree with pervious poster, that a Period Bond film would be interesting, though not a remake of a previous film.

Chris Davis

I wouldn't call it a happy ending (at best maybe bittersweet). His life definitely had purpose even before his daughter was born (saving the world is a pretty meaningful purpose), but even if one disagrees, he can still have that without needing to die.

Stick Figure Studios

I mostly enjoyed the Daniel Craig run, but I hope they get back to classic Bond, going forward. Maybe even do a 60s set run with the same supporting cast. No more Emo, lovelorn Bond. That’s just not who the character is supposed to be.

Mr Trick

In a way it is a kind of happy ending… James dies happy and finally complete. His entire life has been tragedy and service, he only has purpose as a weapon for the secret service. Having a child, a family finally gives him real meaning. The look on his face at the end, he just looks content and at peace.

Ria Grix

Bond should never die. Period.

Stick Figure Studios

Yup. Bond should never die. Period.

Stick Figure Studios

I will add that it would have been enough to have Bond be banished from his family because of the DNA stuff. Both sad and moving. And he could theoretically go on.

Kent Theaker

What was worse for me was that they set up the movie with him being robbed of a loving relationship (by Blofeld) for five years. Then they do THIS? It was overkill. It might have been what Craig wanted, but it wasn't a balanced script in this regard. A sort of f.u. to the fans. This was Craig saying, "I don't want to come back...and let's make it impossible to do so!"

Kent Theaker

I understand that some fans want Bond to be a sort of sexy escapist fun experience. I enjoy that too (especially in the recent Mission Impossible movies, which have been terrific!), but we've had literally scores of those. No Time to Die is one of my favorite Bond films precisely because Craig and the writers decided to do something meaningful with the last film in Craig's run, to have some real heartbreak and self-sacrifice and heroism. I agree that Safin as a villain falls short at the end with his lack of understandable motivation, that is the weakest plot point to me. But I genuinely love that this Bond found a sort of redemption. He deserved a happy ending, but he went above and beyond to ensure others got theirs. And as a result this is 100% my favorite Bond romance as well. It is indeed a mark of how good the movie is that we care about the final outcome as we do. As a side note, this entry is also surprisingly full of Bond easter eggs, from the cars to the music to certain lines and "hat tricks" if you will.

To celebrate/commemorate the end (?) of the Bonds, an interesting James Bond medley: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SeYfAmz0Jlk

Happy Hanukkah

Time for the superlative Layer Cake and the role that earned Daniel Craig the part of James Bond.

Just Plain Bob

Seven actors have played 007 for over 60 years. None had died until now. Every Bond has his world; why they couldn't have this one retire with his lovely wife and daughter didn't make sense to m either. A happy ending is a bad thing, Hollywood. And Felix, too...are you kidding me?

Clifton Owens

What's with the long faces?

Kent Theaker

That is a big giveaway

Richard Bourne

Thunderball

Richard Bourne

I watched your Access Hollywood interview last night and you two were great.

Tim Raths

Spoiler in this (if you haven't watched yet)..... . . . . . . . . I try to never read anything about movies I want to see, so when I first saw this Bond I was destroyed. When Felix met his end I was stunned ("I can't believe they killed Felix!"), but I still did not suspect how it was going to end. I mean, James Bond is in all kinds of life threatening situations and he always gets away. Then when he climbed to the roof of the building and you saw how little time was left, I literally leaned over to my wife and said, "I can't see how he's going to get away.... are they 'for real' going to kill Bond?" Then I sat there in stunned silence as it all went down. Love this Bond, think it's a great one, but that ending shattered me for days.....

Cliff Endicott

I actually believe James did not believe her when he put her on the train and that’s why he was so cold to her

vito virgilio

Judging from your expressions, Bond doesn't end well.

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

Sincerely hope your husband and son both make a full recovery. Please keep reacting to more James Bond films!

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Glad to hear that your family is doing better and growing! I am completely off topic BUT, I'm hoping you will do a package pickup Saturday. Please and thank you!
