[YT Edit] Rain Man (1988)

Hey guys! Here is the YT edit for Rain Man, which will premiere shortly! Hope you enjoy!

Here is the full reaction to this movie.

[YT Edit] Rain Man (1988)

Comments

I'd just like to add my thanks for this heartfelt reaction, Cassie. Some critics didn't like this film. They thought it rang false. But the fact that it rang true to you, given your family's similar circumstances, says a lot. Of course, every situation is different. But as you said, although having a special needs family member is difficult, it can also make you a better person.

Wow. Wonderful ending to your video. Every time you peel back the curtain a little more to show us who you are and where you come from it helps explain why you are this positive ray of sunshine in otherwise pretty dark world. I’m not going to lie…when I first saw you on YouTube, I was a little taken aback. I thought your positivity & outlook was maybe…a little faux or phoney. I thought “no way could this be real”. Being a cynic,I started looking for the flaws. “Well…maybe she’s in some sort of religious cult. Maybe she’s a Scientologist. She lives in Utah, maybe she’s Mormon. They don’t use swear words either!” But the more I watched and the more I learned I realized how cynical and conditioned I had become & to see someone who exudes positivity, earnestness, light and beauty from their very soul to their pores? It helped me to see more good in the world. It wasn’t faux or phoney. It was real & beautiful & wondrous to behold That’s right. A stranger I’ve never met, helped me cease being such a negative cynical person(jerk). Just by being you. You and your sister. I don’t think you have a mean or cynical bone in your body. And in this day & age? That’s rare. So thank you Pop Corn in Bed. Thank you Cassie and Callee. You make the world a better place by just being you and bringing your positivity into the world.

I recommend you also consider The Other Sister(1999)

This movie saved my life. I didn’t grasp the concept that there was anyone else like me that lived in the cauldron my life had become before finally being diagnosed with Asperger’s (originally) in high school. How many times did I think of using the gun that I memorized the manual to? Rain Man made me feel real and human. I can’t thank you enough, Cassie.

I watched the complete reaction earlier this week and felt this watch was quite different from your other videos. This was personal, and I felt like I was invading a part of your personal life. I felt like I should apologize for invading your privacy. I was on YouTube a few minutes ago and saw that version of Rainman was released. I watched the outro again and saw you added pictures of your sister. I was about to close the video when I started reading the comments below. So many people opening up about their experiences with family members with autism. I then realized that you had opened up another support venue by being an open and honest person. For those of us that have been with you at or near the beginning of your channel, it makes us care for you and your family more than ever.

Thank you for your reaction to this, and sharing the story of your sister with us. Like others had mentioned, autism really wasn't known back in the 80s. I know you watch movies and what not, but if you ever get to watch a Korean show called Extraordinary Attorney Woo, you might enjoy it (on your own, not for reactions). It's on Netflix and I think it has a dubbed or subtitled version. The main characters has autism, but she is high functioning. She earned a law degree, and it's the story of her first year in the legal field. The insights into her life are interesting, the supporting cast is great. It's a great uplifting show. It will not leave you feeling down or sad.

if you enjoyed this movie you'd probably enjoy "The Other Sister"

I watched the YT version. It's funny that a lot of it was about the money. Charlie seems like he lost a lot of money... but... that is actually necessary. You have to lose big before you win big. You know like not knowing you had a brother... is a big loss. So now he's open to more because he's seen more. Also I'm saying you have to lose 3 million before you can have more than that 🙂

OMG! I'm kicking myself for not sticking around for the outro on this reaction while I was at work, those pics you just shared are so tender & sweet, I felt like my heart melted! I haven't seen this movie in ages, I forgot how tender it was! Believe this or not, but to a certain degree, I myself have Asperger's Syndrome, which is a small form (not severe) of Autism! I first discovered this back when I was in High School, I was such a socially awkward kid who couldn't fit in amongst other kids because I just couldn't relate to their ways! There were even times when someone said or did things infront of me that I was proned to anger very easily, it was no picnic! But it wasn't until I met 3 other kids who were just as socially awkward as I was, and then we all discovered that we had one thing in common, we all loved The Three Stooges lol! In a twisted kind of way, you could say it was The Three Stooges that brought us together, for the first time in my life I felt like I found my social group, and for the past 17 years, my friends and I have watched each others back and supported each other! Now-a-days, whenever we can and if it's locally, we support Autism by attending the "Autism Speaks" charity walk marathon! Where we donate money and particpate in a lengthy marathon walk to show our support to Autism! This was a really good reaction Cassie, I'm glad you enjoyed it and I enjoyed watching with you (so to speak) lol! You (and Carly) have such a kind heart(s) Cassie, it's one of the many reasons why I became a patron and subscribed to your YT channel! Those pics of your little sister were so sweet, she's an angel and so are you and Carly! Sorry I didn't stick around long enough during the reaction to see that outro! Love and support Cassie, safe travels back home, and God bless you and Carly🥰🙏😇💖🌹

Now I understand why Cassie is such a beautiful person, it was her sister that molded her into what she is today.

Mannygogou

I thank you and it was the medical community for a long time that misdiagnosed things like this so I'm grateful that people know better now. I wasn't trying to say what you said was wrong cause it was mostly right. I am grateful and appreciate you explaining what you meant.

David Freese

Hey Cassie, I can tell you that this movie was singularly important to many people and their understanding of Autism, including myself. Before I saw this movie in 1988 I had no idea of the condition of Autism. I knew of children with Down Syndrome, but not Autism. "Rainman completely changed my perspective on that. Now the world is much smaller and the word has been spread to so many more folks, through the countless Mothers of Autism Children campaigns all across North America and the world. I wish only the best for you, your family, and your sister. God Speed.

KevG

Cassie, thank you for sharing such personal moments in words and pictures about you and your sister. ----- I now get the depth of your empathy and why it rings so deeply in your reactions. You're just an unreal and amazing human being. ---- I wish more folks could be like you. THanks for letting us into your family world through the connection of the "Rainman" movie. Ultimately that's the power that movie have and that's why I love them so much and while I love watching your reactions.

KevG

The outro for this one is special, candid, and I am appreciative Cassie shared it. They make you better. Beautiful.

Jason Chirevas

Hey Cassie, this was one of the first big-budget movies to cover and explain in depth the condition of Autism. ------ After this movie parents who didn't understand their children's disability finally had an answer to their dilemma. They could reach out to the correct professionals to get them to help.------- What an amazing and groundbreaking story that the Rain Man covers.

KevG

My brother was mentally disabled. Next movie with Carly HAS to be C.O.D.A. ❤️

Randolph Tirazona

Well put, Bob... it was a lack of intimate understanding... us older people have the benefit of retrospect whilst those who weren't there at that time can't quite understand how/why things happened the way they did

carbsix

Cassie, sharing pictures of your family with your sister was so touching. It made me feel so many feelings, especially while I was still wiping away tears from the end of the movie. I've always felt that your best quality is your empathy. And this reaction as well as sharing such vulnerabilities makes me understand why your heart is so HUGE! Your YouTube channel is popular for so many reasons. But its clear that the biggest reason is that you're so human. Its been a privilege getting to know you these last couple of years. You don't have to be so open with us. The fact that you are makes us love you so much more ❤

Kuskesh Haramzadeh

Just saw your reaction, Cassie and wow, I'm not a crier by any means but that reaction just hit me so hard. Truly amazing and brilliant movie and as for you and your whole family, may the Lord bless you for all you do in supporting each other. Once again, you show us why you have no equal on YouTube.

Evan

David Freese When I referred to people saying that someone on the spectrum was “retarded”, I meant people in the general public. I would hope that those in the medical community would know better. Sorry for the poorly worded initial post that left that unclear. Glad to hear that they belatedly got your diagnosis correct and I wish you and your family all the best.

Just Plain Bob

Had to do a rewrite because I put in wrong place. Cassie I've been avoiding Rain Man for so long cause it reminds me of my early life until my mid 20s. Silver lining tho is that because of the studies and this movie in the 90s doctors found more ways to diagnose autism. It changed my medium Cerbral Palsy to Mild cases of both afflictions. It helped me understand some more of my social disfunctions. Lately science has shown that it's genetic at times as well. So I believe I passed it on to my daughter as she has cp and autism but high on both scales. She is a lot like your younger sister but I feel both are angels cause they have good hearts and souls. After I finally saw your outro I just wanted to say there are plenty of your followers (including Stick Figure Studios and myself) that know how you were feeling and are thankful that we aren't alone Thank you for sharing your life stories and continue to be you. God bless and know we are always with you.

David Freese

Thanks for reminding people early that some words could be hurting someone. I almost went back into my negitve thoughts because of what some people had said.

David Freese

Yes they did but not many

David Freese

The only retort I have for your message it wasn't always a general retarded statement people used. Alot of autistic kids from the 70s and 80s were labeled as having Cerbral Palsy. I know cause it happened to me. I actually have a mild case of both. I'm just glad they figured it out. My daughter has a more severe case of both aliments as well so I get down on myself for passing it on to her because alot of doctors say it can be genetic. Otherwise you were completely right and thank you for the comments.

David Freese

One of my favorite Tom Cruise movies. His character really grows up by the end of this film.

Stuart Guthrie

Maybe it is obvious to everyone but I just want to start out that Charlie is a *ssh*le in thebeginning but he is also a smooth talker that is used to get his way by convincing people and talk to them. And then he encounters Raymond where this doesn’t work. At all. So he doesn’t know how to cope eith the situation.

Björn Von Knorring

Cassie, at the time this movie was released very few people had heard of autism. Charlie reflects the ignorance of the times. And I don’t mean ignorance in the pejorative sense - there was simply a general lack of awareness. It’s hard to be sensitive to something you’ve never even heard of before. Of course, the Charlie of the first half of the film is pretty much an a**hole in general. At the time this film was released, almost anyone whose cognitive functions differed from the norm was simply regarded as “retarded.” Again, retarded was not used or intended as pejorative. It was simply a description of their condition AS WE UNDERSTOOD IT AT THAT TIME (although use of the diminutive “retard” was considered hateful and hurtful even then). Much of Raymond’s behavior would have been regarded as simple obstinance at the time, with no understanding that it was an element of his condition. This was the first film that I can remember that led to a greater awareness of any medical condition. Of course, with the advent of the internet and smart phones, information is readily available on virtually any subject nowadays and we’re all much more aware of the issues confronting those whose cognitive functions differ from the norm.

Just Plain Bob

Amazing reaction Cassie!

Gary B

I loved you sharing about your sister, Wonderful movie to watch with you!

Jay

Cassie, you are one special woman. ❤️

Kat Farlowe

It shows how personal this was because of your sister. One of your best reactions for sure.

Björn Von Knorring

That was very sweet. Stay authentic... Many reactors don't.

Jeff Rogers

Judge Wapner, how many don't know what that is? When they were in a phone booth, Dustin actually did fart and that became an adlib. Do phone closed booths still exist?

Richard Bourne

I watched this with you last week and had a great time! Really enjoyed your reaction and connecting with the film and story and your moments of share about your sister. Looking forward to the edit, thank you!

kaiielle
