Hitchcock Poll

I’ve been promising a Hitchcock Poll for so long! After talking about how much I love suspense movies recently, I was reminded I need to visit the OG inventor of suspense! Halloween in July here we goooo

Reminder, I have seen and have reactions to: Rear Window, Psycho and The Birds!

Comments

Way, way late to this poll but you should absolutely do Dial M For Murder and To Catch a Thief sometime. Grace Kelly is in both and I know you liked her in Rear Window.

T.J. Moore

And the 1956 version of "The Man Who Knew Too Much".

Jeffrey Schmidbauer

I hope you consider Rebecca again in the future! It's my personal favorite, and both you and Carly will adore it!

Hunter DeRensis

Strangers on A Train missed the list as well, as Rope.

Zachary K.

Missed this poll for some reason. Surprised that “The man who knew too much” isn’t on the list!

Biggman83

Just saw the results. Yes. Yes! Two years. It’s been almost two years….

Jason Chirevas

I'm there with you, AC5555. Thanks.

RandyCC

Ive been suggesting this for some time now! Cassie should comb through manh directors’ entire career so eventually she sees all their films. I’d add more art house/foreign directors too like Ozu. De Sica, Farhadi, Mike Leigh, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Kieslowski, Truffaut, Varda, Almodóvar, Iñarritu,

AC5555

Did you join up just to text that?

Celeste McAllister

Genre/category polls are more exciting, adds a extra element of competition..

Celeste McAllister

There has been a lot of interest, participation and suggestions arising from the Hitchcock poll - which is understandable. I think this supports a suggestion I made earlier to add a regular Director's poll feature. This month Hitchcock, next month Coen brothers? Kubrick? Scorsese? etc. How about it - likes for this idea?

RandyCC

Lol, that's true, nice catch

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

LOVE Cagney. Would love to see White Heat, G-Men, Each Dawn I Die. He had such charisma... even when he's a bad guy, you still kinda root for him.

Bill W

Remember in It's A Wonderful Life we learned that he was "born older". =D

Bill W

How about Hitchcock's last film 'Family Plot'..

Celeste McAllister

Roger Wayne Alms That opening scene is the most suspenseful opening scene of any movie I’ve ever watched. Masterfully executed. Unfortunately, in this age of drone shots, I doubt that anyone that’s new to the movie would have any great appreciation for it.

Just Plain Bob

Jimmy Stewart was all set to get the leading role in North By Northwest. But it went to Cary Grant who was four years older but photographed younger then Stewart.

Zachary K.

The age difference between Cary Grant and his assorted love interests seems to be a real problem for some modern-day movie reaction artists. Hopefully C&C are a bit more forgiving (like when they review a Tom Cruise movie). Just sayin'...🤔

james flack

Dial M for Murder was shot in 3D... and so I have the 3D version...

Mannygogou

I voted for North by Northwest. But someday you have to watch Spellbound, great movie with young Gregory Peck and Ingrid Bergman, great score by Miklos Rozsa, Salvador Dali touches, and the always great Mr. Waverly, Leo G. Carroll.

Michael Weiner

Sir, this is a Wendy's...

Jon Johns

Have you seen Cassie's reaction to Rear Window, or Psycho? Same director, similar vibe to a lot of these on the list. If you enjoyed those, you should enjoy any of these 😉

Jon Johns

Would love to see The Philadelphia Story on the channel.

Mike LL

I voted for Notorious and North by Northwest. The 3 oldest films in this poll are listed under the Film-Noir genre on the Planner app. Other Hitchcock films in this genre include Suspicion (1941) Shadow of a Doubt (1943) Strangers on a Train (1951) Maybe in the future, these could be included in another Hitchcock poll or pitted against other Film-Noir like Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) The Maltese Falcon (1941) Double Indemnity (1944) Laura (1944) The Big Sleep (1946) The Third Man (1949) White Heat (1949) Sunset Boulevard (1950)

Jon Hess

Sooo excited to finally see a Cary Grant film on PiB. Hopefully Cassie considers “The Philadelphia Story” in the near future as well - excellent screwball comedy starring Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, and James Stewart (who earned his only Oscar for Best Actor in this role).

Rose

Cary Grant and James Mason duking it out over the title of "suavest person ever to exist" will never get old.

Marcus Merrell

All the more reason to choose it.

John Cranberry

Phil Stubblefield - not to mention she also received an Academy Award for her decidedly non-glamourous role in "The Country Girl" (1954).

Miles E Coburn

Matthew Berry - Perhaps you can start your own channel and enlighten the rest of us.

Miles E Coburn

Tyler Foster - No, not really.

Miles E Coburn

Stick Figure Studios - And just like all art, that view is entirely subjective. Just like mine is.

Miles E Coburn

Loved them all. But "To Catch A Thief" exemplifies the tail end of the glamorous era of stars like Cary Grant and Grace Kelly.

Larry

Oh, make it a double feature night!

Javier Hernandez

Yes, the dialogue is so good; something the Coen Brothers tried to copy in Hudsucker Proxy, with Tim Robbins and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Javier Hernandez

Looks like 'North By Northwest' is going to win, which is awesome, more Cary Grant is always a good thing. Hopefully we'll also get a reaction to 'His Girl Friday' one day, one of his best films and one of my favourite comedies.

Matthew Scarth

Touch of Evil came up under Hitchcock when I was searching for it. Google is not always accurate. Then I read more since I remembered it from class and added that it was not Hitchcock. Still, it is the most suspenseful scene I've ever seen with the car bomb. My 70 year old brain sometimes scrambles things as much as Google!

Roger Wayne Alms

But even a weak Hitchcock film is magnitudes better than anything that comes out of Hollywood today. Has anyone seen The Scarlett Pimpernel with Leslie Howard?

Roger Wayne Alms

For a great rendition of Que sera, sera check out the one sung by the Holly Cole Trio. You'll find it in their Don't Smoke in Bed album which is great. Listen through good speakers or headphones - a cell phone speaker doesn't do justice to the range and power of her voice.

RandyCC

@barnabas: Which one? The original with Peter Lorre or the remake with Jimmy Stewart?

Stick Figure Studios

TOPAZ is probably my least favorite Hitchcock. Also not a big fan of FRENZY. It's not bad, it's just..... ugly.

Stick Figure Studios

I'd love to see her do a reaction to THE YOUNG GIRLS IF ROCHEFORT.

Stick Figure Studios

Go home, Superbowl Champions. You're drunk.

Stick Figure Studios

So much better than a poll where all the choices are underwhelming.

Stick Figure Studios

And Cary Grant came THIS close to playing Bond.

Stick Figure Studios

The real race in this poll is for 3rd place. Rooting for Dial M for Murder!

Shawn Kildal

Nice! Personally, my vote is for Vertigo, reason is because of James "Jimmy" Stewart (It's A Wonderful Life) I'm just such a big fan of his, given that my grandmother became good friends with him back in the day after she gave him that makeshift Oscar trophy for his performance as George Bailey, since he was nominated, but didn't win it unfortunately, lol! I love almost all of his movies, I say almost because I know I haven't seen all of his films, but I've seen quite a few! Whichever film wins this poll, I'm sure you will enjoy watching it, given that you've both enjoyed and been spooked by the three Hitchcock films you've reacted to so far lol! Good luck, have fun, love and support always, you (and Carly) are the best, and as always [snaps fingers & winks] stay classy Cassie🥰😁😉👍🌹

Wesley White

I hope for your sake, you're right. 🙄

james flack

The Trouble With Harry and The Man Who Knew Too Much are two of my favorites....hopefully they show up on a future poll....

Holly R

I'll just state my support for North by Northwest for a couple reasons. One, it's not only my favorite Hitch movie, but also one of my top favorite movies, period. Two, now is the perfect time to watch this movie, as it was heavily influenced by the James Bond books and later became a significant influence on the Bond movies. I've seen it referred to as "the first James Bond film," and as a big fan of the Bond films and many of its imitators, I think this one still tops them all.

Ira Graif

I agree - that was in my own poll (after NbNw). Not sure why that wasn´t an option :)

Michael Orzali

To Catch a Thief would’ve been a good Cassie pick, but I like the the movies in the lead, too.

Alex Villarreal

D’oh!!

Gary Trousdale

Who cares about Alfred Hitchcock? Lovers of great cinema do.

Stick Figure Studios

Yeah, she hasn't really played the "spot the director" game with Hitchcock movies yet has she? I'm hoping she starts doing that soon.

Stick Figure Studios

@Bob: Amen.

Stick Figure Studios

I think you may finally get your wish, Jason.

Stick Figure Studios

VERTIGO is a work of art.

Stick Figure Studios

Cassie and Carly have better attention spans than your average millennial.

Stick Figure Studios

I was going to mention both The Trouble With Harry and Rope. The Trouble With Harry is an awesome black comedy.

John W Foster

I think TOPAZ is one of Hitch's weaker films.

Stick Figure Studios

"It would take Cassie literally a whole year to react to them all." Only if she did one a week. ;-)

Stick Figure Studios

FRENZY is one nasty movie. I don't think that one's for Cassie.

Stick Figure Studios

Whichever wins, It'll be Great. Next time though, please fill the open spot, with The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), starring James Stewart and Doris Day. It's one of my Favorites. Doris Day sings a song in it, "Que sera, sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" I don't think there's a week that goes by without me singing or humming this tune.

Larry Darrell

A Hitchcock film that’s underrated and under appreciated, is The Trouble With Harry. Quirky, fun, totally different from everything he ever did.

Brian Lowery

No matter who wins Cassie, make sure to watch Dial M for murder as well. I've never steered ya' wrong Girly! 🤣😂You won't be sorry. 👍🏻😁

'Pappy' Johnston

"It would take Cassie literally a whole year to react to them all!" -- and your point is? ;-)

barnabas

My daughter loved Hitchcock's Rebecca when she was at the "Is this a KISSING movie?!" phase. It suckers you with that first "happily ever after" fairy-tale half before it goes all Hitchcock suspense/mystery/drama on your unsuspecting mind. And some really brilliant cinematography with stark light and shadows, like the scene where they quarrel while watching the honeymoon film. Cassie and Carly would LOVE this movie; that was my vote in this poll!

barnabas

OMG Yes! Charade is a great movie. And it also ticks the Cary Grant box a lot of people have been clamoring for in the comments.

barnabas

That’s the great thing about this poll. She has already seen PSYCHO and THE BIRDS. If she had never seen any Hitchcock movies, one of those two would have won ( or REAR WINDOW). Now she can see his two best movies, which imo are the two leading this poll.

Mike LL

Damn too many good choices!

LuMarq

You would love To Catch A Thief a RomCom Thriller

Jason Mangen

In 1996 Vertigo underwent a major restoration to create a new 70mm print and DTS soundtrack.

Dennis Shogren

Until last year, Vertigo topped the decennial ‘Greatest Movies of All Time’ poll by the British Film Institute’s monthly magazine, Sight and Sound. It is now in second place.

Wes Stewart

If it was on the list, Rope (1948) James Stewart, a really brilliant Hitchcock Movie. All shot in three long takes. Amazing & unique for 1948. 🤟😎

Padraig Glennon

Yes Jimmy Stewart was a remarkable human being, check out his Tonight show appearance from 1981 where he talks about his dog Beau

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Three movies The Shootist, (1976) The Man Who Shot Liberty Vance (1962), and How The West was Won (1962)

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

Once again, the great The Man Who Knew Too Much is getting short shrift...

barnabas

I watched Bringing Up Baby because it was on AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movies list. It didn't age well, that's for sure. I had to agree with the New York Times reviewer: "Of course, if you've never been to the movies, Bringing Up Baby will be all new to you - a zany-idden product of the goofy farce school. But who hasn't been to the movies?"

barnabas

All this Hitchcock trivia makes me want to watch a non-poll film.........Let's see, let me check my VHS library, "The Trouble with Harry" is a good one. See everyone later. 😁

james flack

Ah, my favorite hilarious scene (of many) is when they demand the wife's car keys at gunpoint! And e-german-cy, everybody to get from street!

barnabas

North By Northwest and To Catch A Thief get my votes, and if more Cary Grant is to be seen, a few of his earlier works should be seen - Arsenic And Old Lace and Bringing Up Baby. AAOL would be a fun October watch, let Carly get in on some of the action too!

Dave

There are too many great movies in this list for just ONE poll! Also, where is that underrated masterpiece, The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956)?

barnabas

It's simple. She has already done that movie... 🙂

Björn Karlsson

August is Hitchcock’s birthday month so it would be perfect to do it next month.

Tim Raths

Bob, Hitchcock films are some of the best ever made. (Psycho was filmed only using TV cameras from his "Hitchcock Presents" show.) Being born during the second Truman administration, I do have my doubts about youngsters of today and their attention spans. That's all. (Thank you for your polite response.)

james flack

While I don’t think North by Northwest is the best film of this batch - both Vertigo and Rebecca are greater works of cinema, no question - what makes NXN a good choice at this juncture is that in many ways it’s kind of the template for the James Bond and Mission Impossible-type films that you have been steeping yourself in lately; it’s kind of the OG of that entire genre. Also, as great as Vertigo and Rebecca are, there are aspects of both that haven’t dated very well and could be considered problematic. Plus: Cary Grant! North by Northwest gets my vote.

jdj830

How can there be an Alfred Hitchcock poll without The Birds??

Gary Trousdale

Remind Cassie and hopefully Carly to look for Hitchcock himself at the end of the opening credits..

Celeste McAllister

The Shootist and WSLV....................Nope! 🤔 Pray tell...😶

james flack

I vote a sister's watch for 'North by Northwest' introduce Cassie & Carly to Cary Grant ❤❤

Celeste McAllister

She's seen and has a reaction to Rear Window along with The Birds & Physco

Shawn Kildal

No suggestions? Aww, feels like we’re really missing out.

Jason Chirevas

Based upon the Hitchcock films you have seen, you NEED to watch Vertigo next, and THEN watch Mel Brooks' High Anxiety. You will thank me! :)

George Parker

Frenzy?

John Cranberry

I'm a big fan of The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming! It is a great comedy, and it also co-stars the late Alan Arkin in his first Oscar nominated role (it was his first Best Actor nomination). Cassie would love this comedy!

Mike LL

Well then you get a night off. Problem solved.

Brian O'Grady

If Suspicion or Strangers on a Train were on this list, the would get my vote over the others, not to take anything away from these choices.

Brian O'Grady

I'm with you, Miles. To me, Vertigo is one of Hitchcock's worst films. It didn't get the love it does now 30+ years. Maybe people are more comfortable with mental illness nowadays? And I'm with you on the rest your films.

Steve Colletti

james flack: You are wrong. They were in three movies together. Can you name the third?

Mike LL

Jimmy Stewart was in only two movies with the Duke, can you name 'em?

james flack

james flack Apologies. I genuinely thought you were just trying to provoke a response. If you think Hitchcock is boring, that’s your right to an opinion. But I certainly disagree, strongly.

Just Plain Bob

Yes, In my youth, Vertigo wasn't revered like it is now; Look at the reviews from its release through the 1980s.

Steve Colletti

How about "Charade"? Considered the best Hitchcock movie that wasn't a Hitchcock movie. Starring, in my opinion, the most beautiful woman in Hollywood at the time, Audrey Hepburn. 🤗

james flack

Don't ruin it with yet another billion movie "series".

Mike Lemon

Who are you referring to?

Sean Stuart

Just Plain Bob, I've always spoke highly of you and have enjoyed your comments. Why do you find it necessary to attack me, just because people you do not even know, except online, have chosen to? Come on, you're better than that! 💛

james flack

Don’t waste your breath, Tim Raths. He’s trolling.

Just Plain Bob

I just found a clip of a recent documentary, I Am Hitchcock (2022), with other Hollywood directors, John Landis, Eli Roth and Edgar Wright, paying tribute to him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39lWBc9hm-Q

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

She’s already reacted to Rear Window

Just Plain Bob

Robert Moore

What a great group of movies. North by Northwest and To Catch a Thief are two of my all time favorite movies. They are both romantic thrillers that star Cary Grant. That would be enough to recommend them but the the color cinematography, glamorous leading ladies and witty dialog make them outstanding filmmaking.

Michael and Phyllis Selby

It's just an expression, dude. LOL

Delford Chaffin

There is something like 57 Hitchcock films. It would take Cassie literally a whole year to react to them all!

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

Cannot vote on any of these as I do not believe I have seen them.

Brian McGovern

A little sad that The 39 Steps (1935) wasn't considered. That film is one of Hitchcock's best!

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

The numbers don’t really support that claim but whatever, The poll is already up

matthew berry

You don't need a Hitchcock poll, just watch them all! :-)

Delford Chaffin

I can sense your sarcasm so sorry but no.

matthew berry

I mentioned that when Cassie watched MI2, but I think that's WHY she should watch NOTORIOUS because it's a masterpiece and MI2 is just bad.

Robert Jewell

I totally agree.

Robert Jewell

It's funny. I waz watching one of your reactions just the other day and I thought, "I wonder when Cassie is going to do a Hitchcock poll." And blam! Here it is. That is serendipity. My personal favorite is NOTORIOUS which also stars Ingrid Bergman and Claude Rains which you and Carly both saw in CASABLANCA, but all these films are wonderful. I actually think the best way to watch Hitchcock is in chronological release order so REBECCA was tingling my fingers too and it won 1940's BEST PICTURE Oscar. NORTH BY NORTHWEST seems to be winning and it's tremendous (also my friend Dorothy's father wrote the music score for it and it is stellar) and is considered a precursor to the James Bond films. So you've got your hands full for a tremendous lot of great Hitchcock films.

Robert Jewell

Let’s hear those suggestions, Matt. Can’t wait.

Jason Chirevas

Variety is the spice of life. I hate Jim Carrey and Chris Farley, but you won't see me complaining if a reactor decides to go with it. Why? Because I know that the reactor is trying to appeal to a wide variety of tastes and not everyone agrees with mine or those films wouldn't have a following.

Sean Novack

Cassie has already watched three Hitchcock films on the channel and she enjoyed all them.

Tim Raths

Ah, finally, a poll whose result won't be disappointing because all the choices are awesome

Godzilla Jones

I remember having to edit North by Northwest in my editing class. Well only a couple scenes.

Yaisu

I'm glad North by Northwest is winning...Vertigo is easily my favorite on this list; but, I think you'll enjoy NbN more...

Steve Mercier

Top two please Cassie!!!

Johnny Liu

"To Catch a Thief" also includes a scene featuring a borzoi, so it has that going for it.

Michael Gilbrook

When you're done watching the current leader of the poll (North by Northwest), you can see the lovely Eva Marie Saint as a still-stunning '60s housewife in "The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming". She won an Academy Award for her first movie (On The Waterfront). She's the oldest living Oscar winner having celebrated her 99th on July 4.

Bert Towle

We are apparently of one mind on this. I had just checked off my vote for NBNW, TCAT and Vertigo just before scrolling down and seeing your comment! 😀👍

Michael Gilbrook

Im sorry but this just seems like a desperate attempt to insert yourself into a situation that you are not involved in, as you stated above, none of you are in the SAG or WGA... Kind of childish to be honest.

Superbowl champions

DIAL M and REAR WINDOW both have Grace Kelly and are from the same year, so have to vote for that. Everyone loves N x NW.

Paul Stelter

Woohoo, variety!

Mike Lemon

Watching any of these is a waste of time. There are much better movies that still haven’t been watched yet.

matthew berry

Zulu is superb

Just Plain Bob

OMG, you have to watch all of these. I voted for Rebecca, my 1st Hitchcock FILM. I saw it in a high school English class. The only Hitchcock I did not enjoy was 39 steps. What ever you pick, you will enjoy.

Robert Nelson

................................................................and Lukas Moodysson 😉

Björn Karlsson

Literally all these movies are great

Dylan Davies

Tough one. Toughest yet if you asked me. North by Northwest is a great, great movie. So is To Catch a Thief. And then Vertigo is there as well !!!!!!!!!!!

Bill Maurer

Disappointed that The Rope didn't make the cut. For it's mostly single shot composition it's a masterpiece. If you like "Dial M For Murder" you should check out "Match Point" with Scarlett Johansson and Johnathan Rhys Meyers.

Javier Hernandez

Ain't that the truth! Grace Kelly was one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood history, but was far more than *just* another pretty face! The fact that she left Hollywood after only six short years to marry the Prince of Monaco was a blow to movie lovers everywhere. And then to die at the young age of 52 was so incredibly tragic! 😢

Phil Stubblefield

I always love watching Rear Window. Yes, I know she has seen it.

James Young

Agreed

Just Plain Bob

Touch of Evil is one of my absolute favorite films ever. But it was directed by Orson Welles, not Alfred Hitchcock.

Just Plain Bob

Oh my, Rebecca should get more love, one of my very favorite Hitchcock pictures, what a haunting tale.

Joseph Voigt

dude, me too. One of us has to win the next trivia to make sure she sees the original trilogy first, extended editions naturally

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

I don't think there is a bad Hitchcock movie ever. We actually studied the beginning of Touch of Evil in a gaming class I took last year. Although it is not a Hitchcock film, I can't think of a more suspenseful movie scene ever. North by Northwest has to be one of the top 20 films ever made when you consider the story line, acting, cinematography, and the movie as a whole.

Roger Wayne Alms

Agree about Paradine Case. Although I like it, it's not up to his standards.

Just Plain Bob

Wat he'd north by northwest the other day. It's awesome. There's a YouTube video with clips from the movie and the theme and it encapsulates everything'. The theme it totally makes the movie for me

rakesh

I mean, it does have that vibe. That's what the movie is about...?

Tyler Foster

I live in dread that Cassie will watch the American remake of Girl With The Dragon Tattoo before watching the far superior original film.

Just Plain Bob

I’ve never seen these. Open to others suggestions

Kathy Carter

On Patreon, if the poll has circular markers (radial buttons), then you can only vote once. If they're square checkboxes, you can vote multiple times.

Tyler Foster

Stick Figure Studios Family Plot doesn't get nearly the love it deserves.

Just Plain Bob

No "Shadow of a Doubt" or "Strangers on a Train"? Too bad - I think both are better than all the flicks on this list. With those missing, I'll go with Notorious and Vertigo.

Cliff Endicott

What a party pooper.

_tragicmike

Yes! That's a fantastic film!

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Every cinema fan ever

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

To Catch A Thief is probably the most lightly regarded of the films on the list and it is absolutely FANTASTIC! For my money, Grace Kelly was not only a great actress but the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.

Just Plain Bob

Read the comments Matthew. A lot of people do.

Robin Craft

Still hoping to get the Umbrellas of Cherbourg onto that particular poll...

Marcus Merrell

Amen to the love for Jimmy Stewart. GREAT actor (my personal favorite) and his collaborations with Hitchcock were FANTASTIC! Rope is a really fun, cool “gimmick” movie and VERY suspenseful. Vertigo is widely acknowledged as not only one of Hitchcock’s best but one of the overall best films of all time and the Stewart version of The Man Who Knew Too Much is a superb remake of his own earlier film of the same name (the only time I’m aware of a top tier director remaking their own movie). Also, although it has nothing to do with his skill as an actor, I feel it's worth mentioning that Stewart served in World War 2, flying many dangerous missions. Just a great actor and human being.

Just Plain Bob

North by northwest is the obvious choice but I voted for it takes a thief so as to get another Grace Kelly movie!

David

I feel like To Catch A Thief is not just one of Hitchcock’s best but also one that Cassie would love. Personally I find Vertigo vastly overrated. Not bad, just nowhere near the film most claim it to be. Spellbound is wonderful (and underrated), with a fabulous dream sequence done by Salvador Dali himself. Honestly I would have loved to see Strangers On A Train on here. Another of Hitchcock’s better films.

China Andronicus

I feel the same way about the Paradine Case.

Marcus Merrell

OMG I was a little kid when I sa we The Birds!!!

Randolph Tirazona

Trying to pick which Hitchcock films to watch and which ones not to watch is a futile task. Best to just watch them all. Except Under Capricorn. That’s not up to his usual standards by quite a bit, just a so-so melodrama.

Just Plain Bob

None of the above please. Who cares about Alfred Hitchcock?

matthew berry

Agree with you on Vertigo. It’s not bad but it doesn’t deserve nearly the amount of praise it gets.

China Andronicus

It is happening!

Mike LL

I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE a Hitchcock month!

Just Plain Bob

I'll hop on board this train!!

Mike LL

Yeah, pretty much got a good idea where this one is going. For some reason, people just love, Love, LOVE “Vertigo”. I’ve always thought it was just *meh*. And, to me, it’s got an obsessive, controlling, stalkerish vibe to it. My favorites of those listed in the poll are: “To Catch A Thief” with Cary Grant and Grace Kelly (*sigh*), “North by Northwest” with Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint, and “Dial M for Murder” with Grace Kelly, Ray Milland, and Robert Cummings. I think you and Carly would like “To Catch A Thief” best of this lineup.

Miles E Coburn

After the Daniel Craig and Mel Gibson shoot 'em ups, I would be surprised if Cassie and Carly can even stay awake during a Hitchcock flick. Lots and lots of dialog, plenty of suspense, but alas, not much 21st century action for anyone under 40. Just voicin' my God-given opinion........-Sir James 🥱😴

james flack

I’ve been a Hitchcock fan for forty years, ever since I first saw Psycho. His oeuvre is ridiculously good. One of my favorite memories is from thirty years ago, when my wife, my mother and I visited Universal Studios. They had a WONDERFUL Hitchcock exhibit, complete with a recreation of the shower scene in Psycho and a 3D short film cut of The Birds. The birds seemed to literally fly right off the screen into your face. The entire theater ducked to avoid being hit. Great times! Hitchcock is the filmic gift that keeps on giving.

Just Plain Bob

Top 3 films Hitchcock must be given the same respect we gave to disaster movies! 😃Hey Cassie I have a good one for the war poll.'ZULU' 1962?.⭐⭐⭐⭐for historical accuracy and authenticity..

Celeste McAllister

Wait! You can vote more than once? Didn't know that. I think I'm going to do the same as you did d (vote for NORTH BY NORTHWEST and VERTIGO).

Stick Figure Studios

And ARSENIC AND OLD LACE.

Stick Figure Studios

Had to watch the trailer, but I have seen Family Plot. Just once and probably late night. I watch a lot of TCM. I grew up on some Barbara Harris movies (thanks Disney) and Bruce Dern in Support Your Local Sheriff.

Jennifer Medicus

It's not my favourite Hitchcock film, but when thinking about an older/classic film that I thought Cassie would enjoy, North by Northwest was the first film that came to mind. So I really hope this poll gets it on her playlist.

nouvelle_vague

I'd even go for a Hitchcock month, though I'm pretty sure nobody else would.

Stick Figure Studios

Hitchcock is one of the best directors in human history without doubt. I think it's an excellent idea with this poll. But I'm waiting for another poll that has been promised. 😏😏🙄🙄😃😃

Björn Karlsson

I voted for both NORTH BY NORTHWEST and VERTIGO. I've wanted a reaction to both for so long. If NbyNW is first, so be it, I can wait for VERTIGO. It will be worth the wait. NbyNW she will finally see a Cary Grant film. In VERTIGO she will see James Stewart again, so she can't go wrong with either film. Both TO CATCH A THIEF and DIAL M FOR MURDER will be seen in time, so Grace Kelley fans have but to wait.

Mike LL

Celeste McAllister Amen!

Just Plain Bob

They are all exceptional! I voted for NBNW & Vertigo, however NBNW is the one to beat. Cary Grant couldn't be better and Eva Marie Saint is devine. The love scene is one for the books with the camera angles. And that red and black dress..oh so gorgeous! Vertigo is touted as one of the greatest films of all time and I agree. It is haunting and atmospheric. I also agree with MikeLL. It is a film connoisseur type of movie. Notorious is also exceptional. You can't go wrong with Ingrid Bergman, Cary Grant and Claude Rains. Sooo good! Make sure to add Shadow of a Doubt to your next Hitchcock poll. It was Hitch's favorite and one of mine. Great suspense!

Kat Farlowe

I'd love to see a present where she watches all of his films. :-)

Stick Figure Studios

Can I vote for all of these? North by Northwest and Vertigo are going to be the overwhelming winners but I think To Catch a Thief is the one she’ll like the most.

Tim Raths

The guy was *this* close to being James Bond.

Stick Figure Studios

Agreed. They’re all great films.

Bryan Erickson

Cassie if you'd ever like to have a conversation about the amazing Cary Grant, I'm here for you. I've seen 90% of his films. He's handsome, charming, funny. He's got rom-coms out there for you. I'll do watch alongs with you and you don't have to film. I love Cary Grant in B&W, the later years, he's still charming as anything but give me Philadelphia Story. I'd marry CK Dexter Haven.

Jennifer Medicus

Yeah, STRANGERS ON A TRAIN is one of his best.

Stick Figure Studios

Honestly any of those, but my top picks are Vertigo, To Catch a Thief and Dial M. I like North by Northwest but it's not in my top Hitchcock ranking tbh

Odd Thomas

I would love it if everyone would vote for NORTH BY NORTHWEST so I don’t have to walk into the ocean. I’ve tried to get Cassie in front of that movie for almost two years now.

Jason Chirevas

How great would a Hitchcock week be?!

Shawn Kildal

Rope (1948), Vertigo which Jimmy Stewart starred in both was also in another Hitchcock film The Man Who Knew too Much (1956) is one of the best actors of all time. A guy who absolutely loved his dog. https://youtu.be/mwGnCIdHQH0

Zachary K. (Verified Swiftie)

DIAL M is good, but (like ROPE) is very stagey, which makes sense given that both were adapted from stage plays.

Stick Figure Studios

I forgot it's been so long since she did a Hitchcock movie 🍿😁 lol I feel so Embarrassed

Manuel Villacana

Ha!

Matt Rose

I like THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY, but my favorite underrated under-discussed Hitchcock film was his swansong FAMILY PLOT. I just think that's an utterly delightful film.

Stick Figure Studios

we've been trying desperately to get her to watch HIS GIRL FRIDAY, BRINGING UP BABY, or THE AWFUL TRUTH. She'd have a blast with any of them.

Matt Rose

If NORTH BY NORTHWEST wins, as it should, Carly is essential. It’s her kind of movie.

Jason Chirevas

Not a Hitchcock, but my favorite Cary Grant film is His Girl Friday... I think Cassie would love that one. So quick and so much wit you don't see in modern cinema.

Seth

The thing is, she's watched MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2, so she's basically already seen NOTORIOUS with action scenes. ;-)

Stick Figure Studios

No love for a lot of Hitchcock films. This list barely scratches the surface of his filmography.

Stick Figure Studios

Looks like it's just a 2 horse race. Had to vote North by Northwest to finally get a Cary Grant movie reaction from Cassie even though I slightly prefer Notorious. Dial M for Murder I finally watched a year ago and loved it. Can't go wrong with any of these. All classics.

Shawn Kildal

No love for The 39 Steps?

Marcus Merrell

She's seen and reacted to that one :)

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

I'd love to see her just put all of these same movies in another Hitch poll.

Stick Figure Studios

We gotta have a foreign poll at some point with In the Fade, Beyond (Svinalängorna), the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and The Third Wife.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Thank you for this poll, Cassie! HItchcock is great. I really wish that "Strangers On A Train" was on this poll, but that's okay. I voted for Notorious & Dial M For Murder, but I know they have no chance of winning.

Mark Vaderr

Anything Hitchcock is the best! :)

Celeste McAllister

Shadow of a Doubt is one of my favorite films by Hitch. It’s also Mr. Hitchcock’s personal favorite. Stars Teresa Wright, who plays Peggy in The Best Years of Our Lives.

AC5555

Oh, this is a tough one. Hitchcock is one of my favorite directors and while I'm excited at the prospect of you watching more of his movies, I almost don't know where to begin. There's not a bad film up here. All are worth seeing (though some are better than others). VERTIGO is probably the best -- indeed it has been referred to not only as Hitchcock's greatest film but as the greatest film ever made in some circles -- but part of me really wants you to experience the fun roller coaster ride that is NORTH BY NORTHWEST (and also get introduced to the great Cary Grant in the process). I really don't know what I'm going to vote for. I think maybe I'll wait to see where the tides turn over the next couple days and pick a title right before the deadline. Whatever wins, I know I'm going to enjoy this reaction and I'm pretty sure you're going to enjoy the movie.

Stick Figure Studios

Manuel she's already done Rear Window

R Harper

That's an inevitably 👍👍

Celeste McAllister

The Trouble with Harry is certainly a sleeper gem of a movie. I would very much enjoy seeing a reaction to that.

James

Boy is Cassie going to fall in love with Cary Grant.

Matt Rose

Manuel Villacana

I'm not high on VERTIGO either and, like you, really enjoy THE TROUBLE WITH HARRY.

Matt Rose

That’s a great idea!

Just Plain Bob

Hopefully Cassie AND Carly.

Mike LL

Dial M for Murder would be a good choice to see Grace Kelly again but I gotta go with North by Nothwest. It's time for Cassie to be introduced to the suave Cary Grant.

Robin Craft

STRANGERS ON A TRAIN for sure.

Matt Rose

That's right! Why isn't "All of the Above" a choice in this poll??

Mike LL

NOTORIOUS and TO CATCH A THIEF for me. Those should be in Cassie's wheelhouse.

Matt Rose

Unpopular opinion, I'm not a fan of North by Northwest or Vertigo, especially the latter. But then I'm not a huge fan of The Birds either. I like earlier Hitchcock and anything with Cary Grant. I'm thinking I haven't seen Notorious, or at least only once and a long time ago. Now if you can give me Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, that's perfection - so To Catch a Thief. But my real Hitchcock favorite is the unpopular opinion of the unknown, un talked about, The Trouble With Harry.

Jennifer Medicus

Movies for your next Hitchcock poll: Strangers on a Train Shadow of a Doubt Lifeboat The Lady Vanishes Rope Suspicion Foreign Correspondent

Kevin Charley

Yes! Finally! The time has come! I will take North by Northwest as an appetizer. And Vertigo for the main course. North by Northwest is the Cassie and Carly edge of the bed thriller. Vertigo is Cassie by herself being the film connoisseur.

Mike LL

I’d love to see a future where she watched all of his films

AC5555

I voted for TCAT,it's a masterpiece of cinematography and the story of Princess Grace of Monaco💎no losers in this poll🌹

Celeste McAllister

Grace has the best costumes in to catch a thief

AC5555

I just realized I haven't seen Dial M either, I guess I was confusing it with rear window. OK now I have two that need to go in my queue. This is going to be a fun poll.

Jason Fulbright

About time!!!!!! Notorious , vertigo and shadow of a doubt. I would honestly suggest doing a director watch through every month so you are keeping up with one director or more every month. See two or more of each of their films. Say here you watch North by Northwest, vertigo and one more and then three Spielberg films haha

AC5555

Vertigo AND North By Northwest... But if only one, I don't think you've done any Cary Grant yet.

Jeff Rogers

To Catch a Thief isn’t going to win here, but you’d love it!

James UK

North by Northwest is the best

Michael Orzali

I'm almost embarrassed to confess, I have never seen NxNW so that is what I'm voting for so I can watch it for the first time with a Cassie classic PiB reaction.

Jason Fulbright

Literally every choice in this poll is a masterpiece. But then, IMO, Hitchcock is the greatest director of all time.

Just Plain Bob

Hope it’s Dial M For Murder. Another chance to watch Grace Kelly! - Also, Vertigo is his most overrated film.
