Minority Report (2002) - Full Reaction

Why are my videos getting interrupted with ads?

CallMeWheels

The original script was based on the 1954 short story “The Golden Man” by Phillip K Dick.

Uncle Phoenix

Who wrote that? Sounds like something a 12 year old would write to try and sound deep.

matthew berry

“Here is the thing about the Future. Every time you look at It; It changes; because you looked at It. And that changes Everything Else.” - Frank Cadillac (Next 2007)

Uncle Phoenix

I love it when you get to the end of the movie and say "Spielberg!" like he got you with that movie! I think you've done that on a few movies.

Brian

Everyone keeps mentioning Cameron Diaz having a Cameo on the train, and only one person, Gabor, in a reply earlier mentioned Cameron Crowe, being the man reading the paper who recognizes Tom Cruise's character. This is the only person's face you can really make out. Let's Remind Cassie who Cameron Crowe is: Say Anything (1989)... Writer & Director Jerry Maguire (1996)... Writer, Director & Producer Almost Famous (2000)... Writer, Director & Producer Elizabethtown (2005)... Writer, Director & Producer We Bought a Zoo (2011)... Writer, Director & Producer Aloha (2015)... Writer, Director & Producer All seen by Cassie. There are 4 more Feature Films that Cameron Crowe has Written, 3 that he has Produced, and Only 2 more that he has Directed, that Cassie has NOT seen: Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)... Written by The Wild Life (1984)... Written & Produced by Singles (1992)... Writer, Director & Producer Vanilla Sky (2001)... Writer, Director & Producer. (The last one mentioned is the one starring Tom Cruise & Cameron Diaz, which brought all Three of them to the train in Minority Report.) Cassie has seen More Than Half of Cameron Crowe's Feature Filmography and only 2 Short from seeing all 8 of his Directed Feature Films. Way to Go Cass!

Larry Darrell

Did anyone else watch this through You Tube? I was watching on you tube in my iPad and I was getting commercials. That is not supposed to happen for unlisted videos, right?

Brian McGovern

Did you know that Cameron Diaz has a cameo; she’s behind the man in the train when he reads about the ‘Breaking Report’ and sees John(Tom Cruise) and recognizes him that his wanted by the PreCrime police.

FranciscoGios

Lordy, I always forget how Great this film is. So Intense. So GOOD. Also, never realized how Creepy it is until seeing it through Cassie’s eyes. Steven Spielberg, John Williams, and Tom Cruise might be one the Greatest Team Ups ever. ———————————— Absolutely Recommend… War of the Worlds (2005). I don’t think I have ever cried so much in an Action Sci-Fi film.

Larry Darrell

No mention that Jessica Capshaw is the Daughter of Kate Capshaw and Step-daughter of Steven Spielberg.

Larry Darrell

Spielberg's last great movie IMO, all though I haven't seen West Side Story or The Fablemans.

Grad

This has always been one of my least favorite Tom Cruise movies. It’s just kind of weird.

Michael Lynch

@Stick but then the precogs will see them change their mind, right?

Philip Alan

this sums up my own thoughts perfectly.

Walter

I'm getting you tube ads popping up during this reaction - anyone else?

R Harper

Yes! Who wouldn't like a team-up with Wanda and Clint?

Damon

Wild Movie,,,, I did like this one.

Michael J

Where this premise breaks down is the assertion the pre-cogs know what you “Will” do. Perfect pre-cognition defies the laws of known physics as much as time travel to the past. So, it is difficult to believe a society would accept this system as just. Though this film is otherwise beautifully realized, if it were more a story of an authoritarian government relying too heavily on psychic prediction or predictive modeling, it would be much more believable. And perhaps a better cautionary tale.

Steve Holton

Ah, that explains it! Yeah, I was looking for it on tvtropes, but it doesn't seem to be on there yet.

Ben Livingstone

Oh, you're talking about a trope of the genre. I thought you were highlighting something symbolic in this particular movie (like the appearance of oranges everytime someone's about to die in the GODFATHER films).

Stick Figure Studios

Since you've been loving the crime/murder thrillers... I think it's time for you to watch Wind River Cassie :)

DustinChecksIn

Unless the perpetrator somehow *knows* that the precogs saw him/her do it in which case apparently they could change their minds (since Agatha tells John, "The others didn't see their future and you did. You still have a choice"), which would mean the precogs were wrong, but they make a point of saying the precogs are never wrong. Plus, couldn't anybody about to commit a murder, just by knowing that the precogs are out there watching us, have enough information to be able to choose not to go through with it? Ultimately, it doesn't really hold together logically. It's like time travel. It's impossible, but it makes for a cool story.

Stick Figure Studios

That's why Tom prefers to it for real in his movies now. Real sets and real stunts. That's why the recent MI movies are so popular.

Rick Williams

Yes, but they did say the precogs don't see what they might do, they see what they did do. Huge difference.

Philip Alan

Yeah, I figured as much. Sounded great! Especially when she whispered. It came out loud and clear!

Philip Alan

I noticed the fancy mic. It looked wireless. Going high tech. It must be her portable mic. For on the road.

Rick Williams

Cassie, I'm glad you loved the movie as much as I do. It's a thought provoking movie. By arresting the people before they committed the crime. They took away their choice. Their choice to decide not to kill. Just because they thought about killing someone doesn't mean they will not change their mind. It is dangerous when you start going after people for what they are thinking or even saying.

Rick Williams

It's like in place 310 on popcorn request. It got a bunch of requests 🙂

Björn Karlsson

Has anyone suggested Vanilla Sky for Cassie yet? I feel like she would love that one

Hal451

P.S. The mic you're using is pretty great! You might want to consider using it at home as well! :)

Philip Alan

A lot of other movies and tv. Usually it's a detective who's solved the case, and doesn't want to tell the client over the phone for some reason. By the time the client gets there, the detective is already dead. That, or the other person is going to kill the detective.

Ben Livingstone

Oh, snap that makes so much sense!

Mike LL

It’s got to be 15 odd years since I last saw this movie. It’s a goody, but the visual effects don’t hold up as well as they did. I feel like CGI ages at a way faster than physical effects and actual sets. Way to much CGI in this one!

Biggman83

Apparently Paul Thomas Anderson is also in the train scene, but he said he couldn't even spot himself.

XanderWhat

Oblivion is terrific

Odd Thomas

I concur: A.I. Artificial Intelligence is a great double feature with Minority Report; very similar visuals (both Spielberg movies, both early '00s flicks) but A.I. seems to have been oddly forgotten in the last 20 years, which is strange considering it's more relevant now than ever!

Odd Thomas

I really can’t believe I haven’t watched this more, as I’d completely forgotten about everything just after about 45 minutes in so it was like watching it for the first time. And yeah absolutely amazing movie, I’ve seen on your list you’ve watched Edge of Tomorrow but Tom Cruise is in another very good sci-fi called Oblivion also staring Morgan Freeman. Looking forward to seeing what you think of Tom in Rain Man.

Dean Holt

I like THE TERMINAL. I think it's lesser Spielberg and lesser Hanks, but even lesser work by those two great artists is still superior to most of what else is out there.

Stick Figure Studios

I love The Terminal, it might be my favorite Tom Hanks performance.

Mike Lemon

Wow, indeed! I did not know about that. And searching for the picture, the one sitting in front of her reading the newspaper in none other than Vanilla Sky (and Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous) director Cameron Crowe.

Gábor Árki

What a reaction! Having not seen this movie in a while and remembering some mixed feelings about it due to its somewhat creepy atmosphere this was my least expected reaction this week, but I am pleasantly surprised. I always enjoy these where Cassie immerses herself so much into the story and is at the edge of her bed thanks to the plot twists and mystery. She really showed her full range here. A positive, utopistic future is very rarely showcased. Probably because it wouldn't make for interesting stories. Most of the time it is either a dystopian future altogether or features the utopian dystopia trope when there is something sinister behind the scenes of a seemingly perfect world. One exception I can think of is STAR TREK, mainly the series, which are featuring a positive, utopian vision for humanity. They solved this problem of introducing conflict by going to other worlds, facing the same issues as we do here on Earth but from a whole different perspective.

Gábor Árki

Did you spot Cameron Diaz? She has a cameo because she and TC worked together on Vanilla Sky

Odd Thomas

BTW the names of the three precogs (Arthur, Agatha and Dash) come from three iconic mystery authors: Arthur Conan Doyle who created Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie who created both Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, and Dashiel Hammett who wrote THE THIN MAN.

Stick Figure Studios

War of The Worlds also by Spielberg/Cruise is another great watch.

Ricardo Alanis

Oblivion with Tom Cruise is another underrated but excellent sci-fi

Odd Thomas

Cruise/Spielberg reteamed for War of the Worlds which is one of my all-time favourite movies

Odd Thomas

Happy Birthday!

Mannygogou

Quite possibly she was thinking of the other Spielberg/Cruise collaboration: War of the Worlds

WastedPo

Okay, okay, okay. Great great, great reaction. Cassie, you were so into this one! For another thriller I know you would love, I have to think of Hitchcock's best thriller, VERTIGO, which I gave up on you watching last year. But now since I know how much you love thrillers, VERTIGO is back on the menu, boys! But throw in NORTH BY NORTHWEST for a Hitchcock double feature.

Mike LL

I noticed it with Colin Ferrell. Where else does it happen?

Stick Figure Studios

Those laws were already being pushed as far back as 2002 in response to 9/11. This was part of the impetus behind the film in the first place.

Stick Figure Studios

That scared the snot out of me in the theater.

Stick Figure Studios

One of Spielberg's most underrated movies for me. Released the same year as CATCH ME IF YOU CAN and part of a series of films by him (also including THE TERMINAL, MUNICH and WAR OF THE WORLDS, which also starred Cruise) to deal with the aftermath of 9/11. I particularly loved the eye imagery that's all over the movie (that's a trait the film shares with BLADE RUNNER, also based on a Phillip K. Dick story), Spielberg even manages to pay homage to his very first professional directing job: an episode of Rod Serling's NIGHT GALLERY TV series where Joan Crawford played a rich blind woman who wants eye surgery so she can see again for 24 hours. Great stuff. So glad you enjoyed it. Figured you would.

Stick Figure Studios

Are you think of Oblivion or Edge of Tomorrow both Tom Cruise movies

Dean Holt

Oh yeah. There is a good chance that Cassie’s very short scream startled me more than the movie, lol

Ike

I was slightly behind in my sync it seems, and that scarred the bejeezus out of me too!

Cole Jennett

This is top tier Spielberg for me. Cruise, Morton and Farrell are so good here, and the chase sequences are an absolute lesson in staging and editing from a master filmmaker on peak form. I love this film.

Henry Graham

I admit, I get twisted around in this one...and the old plant lady freaks me out. Even Cassie's react is a bit 'off' for me here.

Terry Yelmene

Some people mentioned some other movies that came from Phillip K Dick books - these are all of his books made into movies: Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep --- Blade Runner Minority Report (obviously) Total Recall -- 2 versions The Man in the High Castle The Adjustment Bureau Screamers Radio Free Albemuth Next A Scanner Darkly Paycheck The Crystal Crypt Barjo Total Recall 2070 Blade Runner 2049 -- There are 4 books in this series He was a prolific writer - He wrote 44 novels and 121 short stories and numerous other writings as well. He died in 1982 and that was the year Blade Runner was released. Another great reaction Cassie - a couple places it really got to you - but you got your happy ending :)

ENC SW DV Rush

Watching this movie for the first time in like 20 years, it is solidified as a classic for me. There wasn't a moment or a line of dialogue that wasn't engaging and compelling. The creative futuristic design and visual effects mixed with practical effects were incredible. To top it all off with incredible performances from everyone especially Samantha Morton. Her performance is legit otherworldly. This film and Born on the Fourth of July have probably the best performance from Tom Cruise, in my opinion.

Jyn Jilly

First time I noticed this but the pilot for the detectives was Jessica Capshaw (Arizona Robbins from Grey’s Anatomy). We have plenty of runner ups for jump scares because I jumped about 3 feet when you did. (Agatha grabs Cruise in the pool)

Ike

Some fun facts for Cassie: This film was based on a story by Philip K. Dick, who also wrote the story that became Blade Runner. You wondered if Peter Stormare (the eye surgeon) had ever played a good guy. He did, in Armageddon (he was the guy on the Russian space station). Anderton’s wife, Lara, was played by Kathryn Morris. She would later go on to star in the show Cold Case, about detectives that try and solve old murder cases. The precogs were all named after literary detective writers. Dashiell Hammett, Arthur Conan Doyle, and Agatha Christie.

Brian Lowery

"I thought this movie was about aliens!"

warcrimes

Excellent reaction!!! I love watching these movies along with you, I always learn something new, a different take on what I'd remembered or seen before and your reactions are so relatable always. Keep up the fantastic work that all of you do. So impressed as always. 😁

Andrew Rose

I’m curious, has anyone made a meme yet of you trying to wink?! 😉 The Aughts, or as the British say, The Noughties (pronounced naughties) come from “Aught” and “Nought”. Which both mean zero. Excellent reaction Cassie! Even though I’ve seen the movie, I was getting into it because of how into it you were! And of course, that jump scare will probably make it into the Poppies! 😂

Robert da Spruce

Good movie! Ever notice whenever anyone says "I can't talk over the phone," it means they're going to die?

Ben Livingstone

A.I. would be a great reaction, especially right on the heels of Minority Report. For one, it's a very underrated movie. Secondly, Spielberg did both M.R. and A.I. in a certain period of his career, and you really see the aesthetic similarities between the two films.

WastedPo

I totally thought I had seen this movie twice before, and thought I was pretty indifferent. Either I have more in common with Carly then I thought, or I must have fell asleep and not bothered to finish it.😂 It was so good!

Cole Jennett

Still hurts to see that perfectly good sandwich going to waste

Wes Stewart

You had me at "Hello, guys!" - GREAT reaction! Great movie!

Philip Alan

My favourite Cruise movie!

Wes

People also used "aught" for the nineteen hundreds--like 1909 being "nineteen aught nine."

Ben Livingstone

I just rewatched this so I'll save this reaction for a rainy day. Glad you liked it tho.

djKENTO

Still waiting on “The Outsiders”. Swayze, Cruise, Estevez, Howell, Lowe, Ralph Macchio, Dillon

John P Tucker

Amen and well said.

Just Plain Bob

I have always loved this movie, but now, with some laws being pushed that closely resembles this movie, it's become kinda scary.

Craig Russell

Good flick! I’m glad you enjoyed it Cassie! Otherwise, Ben would have had to dub the Patreon version to make it sound like you enjoyed it! 😉

Robert da Spruce

The first film for Spielberg and Cruise, got to see it in the theater back then and what an experience it was!

JL_83

Personal favorite of mine. Take a wild, guess who directed! So much research went into the making of this film. It was mine blowing.

Jerrod Acree

One scifi film that I always connected this movie with was "Artificial Intelligence." The futuristic vision of Minority Report and AI always fascinated me.

Jaccob Cortes

Ah, I was kind of hoping/expecting that this would be a joint reaction, since it's a Tom Cruise movie. Nevertheless, glad you apparently enjoyed this.

WastedPo

Cassie, you may be unaware that “Minority Report” is based on a book of the same name written by legendary sci-fi author Philip K. Dick. Dick also wrote “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” which was the loose basis of the sci-fi/noir classic “Blade Runner.” I also recommend “Total Recall” (the original, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger), based on Dick’s “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.” As with all the best sci-fi authors, Dick specialized in stories that were deeply thought provoking and teased questions such as “What does it really mean to be human?” and “Are we just the sum of our memories/experiences, or is there something more, something undefinable that makes us who we are?”

Just Plain Bob

Good movie. Another good one with Tom Cruise is "Color of Money" with Paul Newman. PS: "The Searchers"
