Spectre (2015) - Full Reaction

Ahhhh I almost don't want to watch the last one, I don't want these to be over! This was so enjoyable and entertaining as always. Popcorn poppin, you know!? I loved the leading lady, M and Q. I don't know if its because I have seen Christoph Waltz in other amazing roles, but I guess I wanted a bit more from him? What did you think of him as a villain?

I am sorry it has been a bit all over the place on Patreon the last couple weeks. I have an upcoming post coming tomorrow and a new poll!

Spectre (2015) - Full Reaction

Comments

The silliest out of the Craig movies.

Grad

Awesome watch along, such a fun time. I can not wait for the next one. 🎬📽No Time To Die📽🎬 Epic!!!

Padraig Glennon

I really liked this movie and it was a fun reaction vid. I wasn't a fan of both of your chewing sounds in the beginning though - I was so glad when you were done with the popcorn.

Johnny

"Have We seen him hold hands before?" "Bond? Very rarely." Another of the Many Things Not Learned by skipping Dr. No (1962). Everything you need to know about James Bond's Character and what he is capable of, can be learned from the First Film. I still say the Original 16 Films, told One Complete Story. Not a story of a world with connecting events, but a Story of One Man on his Own Journey. I hope it doesn't take too long to Return.

Larry Darrell

Downloaded it last night, yeah, it's still there.

Larry Darrell

I can’t say the last one is a favorite (outside of a delightful Ana De Armas) so you can always put it off. (Not sure how you’ll feel about the ending.)

Mr Trick

So Waltz said he took on the name from his mother whose maiden name was Blofeld. This was his way of dishonoring his father for taking in Bond after he lost his parents. I still don’t like the way they made them “brothers” as that flies in the face of all the previous Bonds with the Blofeld character.

Scott Nelson

Yeah, it´s a british soap and it started in 1972 i think. Yeah I do that to (skipping Sopranos). I have 0 interest in TV-shows in general.

Björn Karlsson

How does a show have 9500 episodes? That is about one a day for thirty years. Is it a soap opera or something?

Mike Lemon

And I skip right over every TBR Sopranos reaction.

Mike Lemon

How about "Emmerdale farm"? Only 9548 episodes 🤣🤣

Björn Karlsson

TBR is doing Sopranos. They started in Dec-Jan and they are still doing it. IMO it´s only one tv-show that is reaction worthy, and that is Twin Peaks.

Björn Karlsson

You are 100% right. I made my comment only half way through the film (had to watch it over 2 nights, didn't really grab me). The reveal in the film is pretty ho-hum as things go. Seemed almost a little too... "trope-y"? Even in a film franchise that is traditionally full of tropes.

Jedi Psy

Rakeshidn: I don't know what you are smoking,... but it must be some real good stuff to give you those hallucinations to want either of those movies - I like Sean Connery and "Never Say Never Again" was his WORST bond movie and probably his worst movie he's EVER done,... that's saying something considering how many movies he actually starred in,...

ENC SW DV Rush

Birds! Birds! they're evil. Kill them! (In my best Patato-Glados voice)

Powers209

I scrolled up briefly and while I saw comments some more negative comments I have to disagree. In my opinion, I really enjoy this movie. It combined the new more nuanced version of bond with some classic villainy with a plan that threatens the world. A lot of fun and a great addition to the series

MattN

Oberhauser is pronounced (Ohburr-howzer) ; it’s ok, I’m used to hearing it mispronounced my whole life. 😄

Anthony Oberhauser

I think at one point it may have been intended to be Craig's last one, but they kept convincing him to come back.

Brian Pelts

Good movie. Great Reaction Ladies. They should have ended it with this one.

Rick Williams

@Celeste- May as well throw in Dr. Who or some of the insanely long animes (Detective Conan, Naruto, One Piece, etc.).

Mike Lemon

Austin Powers is the horny guy..

Celeste McAllister

One day she will react to The Sopranos' all seven seasons..then you'll have something to look forward to..

Celeste McAllister

I had the exact same reaction coming out of the movie theatre on this one: Christoph Waltz seemed almost wasted- I think he did a fine job but I agree kind of a "meh passable" bad guy for one that we built up to over 3 films.

LuMarq

Christoph Waltz fell somewhat short for me as being more creepy than scrary. I really don't buy into him being in charge of SPECTRE, esp. vs. prior portrayals of Blofeld, Thunderball probably being the best even though we don't see his face.

Richard Bourne

This movie (which I hated) does at least crystalize for me what did made the Craig movies bad to me. First, they tried to humanize Bond and make him more "realistic" and "grounded" in terms of his characterization. Terrible idea, because 95% of the time that translated to "in this scene, Bond is miserable." Why anyone thought it was a great idea to take a charismatic, larger than life secret agent, a character made to indulge the audience's desire for escapist adventure, and give him a 15 year long midlife crisis is beyond me. I guess looking back, it's fairly obvious that after dumping Brosnan and wanting yet another New Take on 007, Eon looked around and fairly blatantly tried to make James Bond a copy of the two most successful spy characters of the 2000s, Jason Bourne and Jack Bauer. But those two characters were very much of their time, traumatized heroes for the 9/11 world, and once that began to fade in people's memories their popularity began to wane. So to keep basing 007 in this fashion feels dated to me - as if they were still making 007 blaxploitation movies 20 years after LIVE AND LET DIE. Second, once they establish the grounded, muted style, they decided starting with SKYFALL to drag back in the over-the-top crazy elements from past Bond movies anyway. All this does is make the plans for world domination and bizarre ultimate weapons look even more ridiculous and unbelievable. The story and the storytelling style is almost a complete mismatch. QUANTUM OF SOLACE has some serious issues but for me the story worked best in that it gave us a 21st century villain and plot - an almost-legal scheme to plunder the latest in a series of Third World nations of their natural resources. The "lower stakes" aspect seemed a better match to the 2000s Bond who had diminished capabilities and less luck on his side. But once you bring Blofeld back, the archenemy himself, you can't take it seriously. He's not believable in this world. And their attempt to tie in Blofeld to Bond's background is over-the-top terrible. Once again, we get this delusion imported from the superhero genre that all villains need an origin story, that there must be some explanation for their nature, some moral equivalent of a radioactive spider bite that turns a normal person into a criminal mastermind. Blofeld never had an origin story. He likes money and power. But now we get this insanely stupid story where Bond was his stepbrother and because the family took Bond on a ski trip instead of him he faked his death and built a criminal empire to spend the rest of his life getting revenge. Because "tRaUmA." Just the worst.

Patrick Flanagan

You know, it's possible for even us dum-dums to grasp that this is "one long story" but to dislike it because it's a terrible story. It doesn't "explain" anything because the villains of the previous films weren't lacking in explanation, their motives were already established. This one pointlessly adds on to those films, not always convincingly.

Patrick Flanagan

Also in this new (dumb, stupid, awful) continuity, he and Bond are revealed to have been stepbrothers. Bond was orphaned and raised in future Blofeld's family and became the favorite son, so Blofeld is perhaps accusing Bond in a (dumb) roundabout way of being a cuckoo, an intruder who stole his father's affection from him.

Patrick Flanagan

Weird way of saying that 75% of the reactions aren't long-running series.

Patrick Flanagan

Movies in general are asexual these days. It's considered a major event if a Marvel hero has sex.

Patrick Flanagan

I was going to say the same thing about Lèa Seydoux and Daniel having no chemistry but you beat me to it.

Tim Raths

This one gets a lot of crap...but I like this one. Whatever.

Steve Mercier

I was lucky enough to watch a lot of the final sequences being filmed for Spectre and some bits for Skyfall, as my old office building is the one you can see next to MI6. We’d work late and watch them chasing up and down the Thames in the boat. I think Sam Mendes was a genius choice as director for these two movies. It helped keep The tone and storyline together and coherent.

Biggman83

TWINE definitely is a must watch. Die Another Day just needs to die today! Worst Bond of Brosnan era, and is up there with WB’s remake of Thunderball ‘Never Say Never again’.

Biggman83

Carly, you don't get credit for guessing plot points in a film you've already seen, lol

Odd Thomas

Now that James Bond is finished up might I suggest a rewatch of FIREFLY with Carly. That would be fun!

Evil Darth Carl

edited.

Matt Rose

This and No Time to Die are the weakest Craig entries for me - but that's not to say they're bad, just not as good as Casino and Skyfall imo. I found it hilarious when Lea Seydoux said 'I will never sleep with you' and two scenes later she does exactly that. She's not the first Bond girl to do it though, let's be honest

Odd Thomas

Matt, your comment is containing a spoiler to another franchise they haven't seen or reacted to yet.

Gábor Árki

I'm surprised by all the bad opinions about this movie in the comments. I mean, sure, it's not perfect, but it's still a decent entry in the franchise. I watched it for the second time, and I actually liked it more than the first time. I loved how they paid homage to the old movies, and how they captured some of the fun and cheesy vibe of the classics in the beginning of the movie. Although it doesn't really work that well later though. I was fine with how they tied everything together with SPECTRE, but the whole "brother" thing was just a bit over the top. It felt like they were trying too hard to make it personal. And there is Madeleine and Bond. She's actually a quite interesting character, but they just didn't have that spark and chemistry that for example Vesper and Bond had. It is hard to see why they fall for each other so fast. What I really enjoyed though is the reaction. I think the movie really worked for Cassie and Carly and they enjoyed it more than I expected they would. Also, it was a lot of fun to see Carly's expressions at certain scenes. 😉

Gábor Árki

I still prefer it to QUANTUM OF SOLACE or DIE ANOTHER DAY or MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN.

Stick Figure Studios

Seems a bit harsh, but to each their own.

Stick Figure Studios

I don't know. I think the pre-title sequence of SKYFALL could possibly be better than this one. They're both great, though, so it's close.

Stick Figure Studios

we're all waiting for COLLATERAL.

Matt Rose

Waiting for you girls to react to Collateral, probably Tom Cruise's best performance.

Paul Deaconu

Cassie. You might have recognised Lea Seydoux and Monica Bellucci from Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol and The Matrix Reloaded respectively

ROBERT CLARK

Glad you liked it but man, this is one of the worst of the series for me. It's very well acted and looks great with fantastic production design but the film itself is a dour slog. Leah Seydoux is a fine actress but she has zero chemistry with Daniel Craig and their relationship is not convincing for even a moment. The pre-credit sequence is excellent but that's the one action sequence in the film (apart from the train fight) that has any real oomph to it. The car chase is particularly bad. The whole brother angle is poorly thought out and directly rips off a parody film that came out years prior (you'll see it eventually). This was supposed to be Craig's final film but the poor reception to it (which surprised everyone at EON) caused them to want to bring back Craig one more time. Again, glad you liked it, but I think this one will diminish in your estimation as time passes.

Matt Rose

This one got a lot of hatred when it came out, but I always thought it was better than its reputation. There are problems with it of course. Not only does the retconning of Blofeld being responsible for everything that's happened to Bond up until now make no sense, but the retconning of him into Bond's adopted brother is really lame... the kind of thing a parody of a Bond movie would do. Also, Leya Seydoux is a lovely woman, but she and Craig have zero chemistry. The film is too long, a bit too slow and the action is serviceable without being particularly inspired or exciting. Still, the cinematography is good, the inclusion of a bit more humor this time was a nice addition and it's cool to see M, Q and Moneypenny have bigger parts in the story. I'd put this in the lower half of Craig's run (still better than QUANTUM OF SOLACE). Only one left and I am REALLY curious to see what you think if it.

Stick Figure Studios

I agree with you. Maybe it is watching it with the sisters just lifted the whole movie for me. Coming out of the theater, I wasn't very impressed with it, but watching it today with the sisters reaction just made it a much better movie for me. I liked the reaction and enjoyed the movie for really the first time.

Mike LL

I must be an outlier who has no real problem with any of the Craig Bond movies with the exception of No Time To Die which I utterly despise. No spoilers, but I have it up there with Glass as two almost great movies ruined by unfathomably bad endings, two movies I will likely never revisit.

REDR58

Monica Bellucci > Lea Seydoux They really got the Bond girls wrong this time around. No one comes close to Monica

Bill Maurer

Have they done Sherlock? Season one is so, so good, I'd love to see their reactions!

AdrianF

Some of the moaning is because they're one long story, including in comments here. Personally as someone nearly old enough to have wathced the lot (well, from the 80s) in real time, this is the only time that DC means 'must watch'. Sorry other DC.

AdrianF

As a whole, I do like NTTD *and the DC Bonds*, but the main plot thing is so utterly bonkers in NTTD that it can definitely be a turn off. I started watching it again this afternoon, for the first time in a while, after watching this reaction. Personally, the first and third acts are fine, great even, but the main plot device is still rubbish. Nice Cactuar btw. XVI not so much.

AdrianF

Blofeld as a young child was Franz Oberhauser. After Bond's parent's died in a climbing accident, Oberhauser's father took Bond in as a favor to the Bonds, almost like a catholic godparent, or a foster father. For two years, Oberhauser senior treated Bond like a son, taught him a bunch of stuff, and insisted his son Franz treat him like a foster brother. We can see this in the picture that Bond gets as personal momentos from the burning of Skyfall, Bond, Oberhauser Sr, and Franz (with the face conveniently burned off so we don't recognize Christoph Waltz). This is the same picture we see complete and whole in Bond's room at Blofeld's oasis, much like Blofeld has the intact framed picture of Madeleine and her father Mr. White in her room. Young Franz became so jealous at his father's seeming preference of Bond, that he killed his father and faked his own death two years in to that arrangement, whereafter Bond returned home to Skyfall and Kincaid took custody of him like Alfred for Batman. Essentially, the two foster brothers became two sides of the super intelligence coin. One a super spy, the other an evil mastermind. Hope that wasn't too man-splainy, like Bond trying to show Madeleine how to handle a gun. The folks that don't like this one, in my opinion, don't understand that the five Craig Bond movies are all one long story. This one is a key piece, albeit differently paced than some of the others. Story wise, it explains a ton about the last ones (Blofeld was the driving force behind every past Craig-Bond villain), and sets up the finale of the five part series beautifully. I also quite enjoy that this is such a callback to the old school Bond films. Blofeld was one of the original Bond villains, lair, and white fluffy cat (If you haven't watched the Austin Powers movies, they will make so much more sense now that you've seen the Bond films), and big exposition about his evil plans, and way too elaborate death contraptions that Bond can escape from. I cannot wait for you to see the Craig-Bond finale. Epic and satisfying conclusion of a five part series.

Ian from wine country

@Caomhan - It kills the variety. Since Star Wars (through Point Break) roughly 1/4 of the uploads have been a long series (64 of 280). "And the users vote on what she gets to see 95% of the time." Again, killing variety, because the same things every other channel watches gets voted for. Look at the Bruce Willis poll- a ton of great movies that nobody, or few, have reacted to, but what wins? Fifth Element- that over-hyped movie so many, correctly, guessed she wouldn't like and Dasha, Cinebinge, Jen, Octo, Asia and BJ, Dawn, etc. had already reacted to. "You don't even have to watch it." That is the point. If someone doesn't like, or are tired of, a particular series, that is 12 (for Bond, 24 for Star Wars, 17 Marvel, etc.) uploads that have no chance of being watched. It is a lot to ask of people. Skipping a couple "not my genre" movies when there is more variety is a much easier ask.

Mike Lemon

Fun fact: Monica Bellucci is the oldest Bond girl in the series

ROBERT CLARK

I wasn't a fan of the whole Blofeld step brother story. Cassie when you get round to watching No Time To Die I urge you to watch until the very end of the credits!!!

ROBERT CLARK

Watching this again years later, I liked it way more. I think because this came out after MI5: Rogue Nation years back, most of us couldn't help but compare the two. So at the time it felt boring compared to MI:5, but watching it again I actually liked it a lot.

Jyn Jilly

Of all the Craig bonds that I like, this is the one I like the least (No Time To Die is the one I do not like at all whatsoever). For me, Spectre has some larger issues that might've been spotted and improved upon or removed with at least another writing pass before they started filming. Issues aside, though, I felt all the actors did okay with what they had, and the visuals of the movie are stunning in parts.

Christopher B.

I don't understand comments like this because this channel has a lot of variety. And the users vote on what she gets to see 95% of the time. So it's not like you're beholden to just this. You don't even have to watch it.

Caomhan84

Was surprised that neither recognized Andrew Scott (or C) from Sherlock. He played Moriarty.

Brian Lowery

As an aside, we get a few minutes of Ana de Armas in NTTD...

AdrianF

Is it just me or the download version sound drops out half way through?

Christopher Smith

I'll echo what others have said in here. This is not a good one IMO, the action scenes never achieve anything beyond decent, the last 20 mins doesn't have a propellant final act feel and the shoehorning in of not only Blofeld but his back story and his supposed influence over the previous films with a badly photoshopped image of them on ski slopes took me out of the movie. As for who blofeld is in relation to the earlier movies it's easier to think of him like The Joker, Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger both played him but not the same version. So this Blofeld isn't his son or any relation to the others beyond being the evil head of spectre and having an eye injury

Choof

I admire his career path. He has done a range of movies so diverse it's hard to pin him down as a particular type of actor.

rakesh

Carly Knows. She knows the eternal pain of the Patreoners. Watching movies we've seen before and carefully tiptoeing around so not to give out spoilers.

rakesh

Plenty of different movies that she has planned. but I like ( and so do others) a dive In a cinemratic universe. Hopefully Planet of the Apes and the DC Universe. Make it onto the slate.

rakesh

never say never...again. ( i agree TWINE need to be watched)

rakesh

Surprised at the negativity to this one. It's probably the second best Craig Bond (tied with Skyfall), I'd have thought the mini-backlash (if there was going to be one) would be for NTTD. Its plot is bonkers. Anyway, I enjoyed the reaction.

AdrianF

This was my easily my least favorite of the Craig Films. Actually I think this is one of my least favorite Bond films period.

Alex Gorell

I agree....

Björn Karlsson

This is a terrible movie. It is slow and boring. Which is something no Bond movie should ever be. The whole plot and Blofelds motivations is stupid. Waltz is wasted as a villain. A really terrible effort all around.

James1035

@Eric... Cassie has seen Inglorious Basterds, that would have been a great reaction. It's my favorite Tarantino film and you're right...Waltz was terrific, well deserved Oscar.

Robin Craft

Does anyone else love the fact that Dave Bautista only has one line of dialogue in this movie? We’ll have to campaign to get him a retroactive Oscar nomination 😂

JL_83

The pre-title action sequence is the best of the Craig era, by far. However, the main title song, the less said about that one, the better.

Mike LL

The bad guy said "Cuckoo" because a cuckoo bird will go to another birds nest to lay its egg/s. The young cuckoo chick will generally hatch sooner than the other birds eggs and commonly will eject them, taking their place. Bond killed a dude and basically took his place to get into the meeting in Rome, similar to the behavior of the cuckoo bird. Hope this helps!

Jedi Psy

No need to apologize. You are doing great.

Joshua Stormont

No more goddamn Bond. We're done with this.

Carol_White

Might be an unpopular opinion but I’m glad you’re finished with them as I’m not a massive fan. But because this one had Christoph Waltz in I had hope it’s was going to be good. And I actually went to see this with my Dad at the cinema and I was so bored and thought it was the worst one out of the ones Craig had done.

Dean Holt

I was so excited, I thought this long-ass series was over, but she said one more. Hopefully it is quick and she starts getting some variety again. Please, enough with the billion movie series.

Mike Lemon

The opening scene in IB is phenomenal and how it’s written is just incredible and he just steals every scene he’s in. My favourite Tarantino film is still Pulp Fiction but IB is in my top five somewhere lol.

Dean Holt

I think Spectre is way under-rated. It is really a very good movie, and it does a lot to bring the franchise to coherence.

Samurai Ken

Terrible movie. Tries to retcon the previous Daniel Craig installments, all to satisfy the millenial need for backstory and for everything to be part of a larger overall story. And Blofeld's motivation? The worst kind of tripe. Gotta go back and watch Craig in "Layer Cake" to wash the horrible taste of this one out of my mouth.

Just Plain Bob

She can't pause and rewind and watch the other movies before No Time to Die because it's a direct sequel to this film.

Caomhan84

I never (and still don’t) understood why this one got so much hate or wasn’t as loved as some others… from casino royale to skyfall some fans were complaining they wanted a more traditional Bond movie with an old fashioned supervillain and evil lair etc, they’ve got exactly what they wanted and still they weren’t satisfied. There is always something I guess…. Ok, I agree Waltz was a bit disappointing (wanted more!) but on the other hand Blofeld usually doesn’t do much at all, sitting and stroking a cat is 75% of his work lol. The bit with C wasn’t great either, and some other minor details could have been better, but overall it’s just another typical Bond movie if you ask me. Great set-up for the final one though.

davidov

Yeah… I hated SPECTRE, but I loved NTTD.

Cliff Stephenson

So glad to hear you liked it because SPECTRE is, straight up, the only Bond movie I hated. It was Bond just being a mopey sad sack that just slowly shuffles from location to location. I can’t name a single thing I liked about it.

Cliff Stephenson

I love that you keep calling Dave Bautista the big guy. I thought you guys would recognize him as Drax from guardians. He also was in Dune recently. What’s really weird is that looking at the work that Dave has done recently, I feel like he would never play this type of heavy role again.

Night King01

I just think if she is checking all of the Daniel Craig 007 ones, it would be great to react to that one. Nothing against Daniel Craig, I like his work, but Pierce Brosnan is my 007!

Edgar Gonzalez

Actually I partly agree: the men are curiously asexual.

Alex Villarreal

They'd love TWINE. I was wanting that one to win the poll instead of TOMORROW NEVER DIES.

Stick Figure Studios

Not sure how "horny" the M:I movies are.

Stick Figure Studios

Also, I don't know if you've seen it, but inglorious basterds is easily Christoph waltz best performance and, in my opinion, the best Tarantino movie. I'd highly recommend that as a sister watch

Eric Wallace

You're husband was hospitalized, you don't have to apologize about anything in regard to your patreon schedule.

Eric Wallace

Cassie, i got only one title for you..."007: The World Is Not Enough" is a MUST see! its a Pierce Brosnan 007 MUST see!

Edgar Gonzalez

It's not over yet, you still have a bunch more James Bond films to watch lol! Here's an idea, save the most recent one, No Time To Die, for very last as you rewind, pun intended lol, and watch the remaining Bond films leaving only the newest one for very last, just a thought lol! I mean no disrespect, but I'm gonna sit this one out, I'm glad you enjoyed it though, but one of my friends said that in his opinion, this one was so bad, he couldn't even finish watching it, ouch! Maybe someday in the future I might watch this, but for now I have no desire, sorry! BTW, I saw your images from the MI7 premiere on FB, and HOLY MACKREL, you and Carly look absolutely stunning in your dresses! Like I said once, I think my heart skipped a beat lol! I left you a nice comment on those photos, if you wish you may check it out whenever you please lol! Hope you're doing well, love and support, and as always [snaps fingers & winks] stay classy Cassie🥰😁😉👍🌹

Wesley White

Make Bond movies fun and horny again. 😉 (Actually, it’s all good: The Mission Impossible movies have happily taken that mantle.)

Alex Villarreal

I never warmed to Craig as Bond but up until now I’d enjoyed the movies enough. They started to lose me here, probably because I expected too much. I loved how they’d reintroduced the old characters in Skyfall and now they were going back to the villain from the Connery days. We were going back down a more familiar route. Sadly what they decided to do with Blofeld seemed bizarre and they could/should have done so much better. All the best Bond movies have an element of ridiculousness in them, but this seemed ridiculous in completely the wrong way.

James UK

Spectre is the only one that bored me (I don't have a problem with long movies but this one *felt* long, whereas Casino Royale never does), although It's necessary to see it in order to get the most out of No Time to Die. But now, considering how much Cassie is enjoying these movies...NTTD has become my most anticipated PiB reaction of the year. Personally, I have come 180° in my own feelings about it. After seeing it three times, I love it now. And now I'm really really curious about how Cassie will react to it. Can't wait. Edit: Carly breaking the 4th wall twice during this was hilarious. 😂

Caomhan84

This one was ok. I felt everything towards the last half was a bit anti-climactic and unsatisfying lol If you want to go back, I recommend the last two Brosnan movies, The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day. Brosnan was my Bond growing up so I loved all of his movies lol

Gilbert Gonzalez

I think Christoph Waltz was wasted in this film because he’s barely in it. He shows up once at the meeting and then on two other scenes and that’s it. I think people at this point thought putting him in the movie was enough for him to give a good performance. But you have to give him stuff to do at least. He had almost nothing to do in this movie. Plus the whole thing with C just really bogged it down for me. Like what was the point of that. There’s a lot of other things that hurt this film it I won’t list them all.
