2023-07-08 00:58:27 +0000 UTC@ Thoko - I know there are no such thing as scores on YT, I didn't know what scores you were talking about as I never mentioned Rotten Tomatoes, nor would I as it's not relevant to the discussion, but YT views certainly are. Most people don't base their viewing habits on critic sites, or at least they shouldn't. Why let other people tell you what to think. As for you not hearing of these films - so? I for one rarely see anything on Cassie polls that I consider obscure, in fact all the films on the disaster poll were familiar to me and I have seen most of them. And I'm sure they were familiar to most people on here. Just because you personally never heard of a film doesn't make it obscure, it just means your film knowledge isn't particularly good. As for the way Cassie runs her channel I stand by what I've said: it's not really very different than what most other people do. You keep saying I'm not understanding you then you change what said from the previous post. For instance in one post you said the reactors you watch "only put suggestions on the poll that the reactor is interested in watching" then the next post you said "patrons suggest many films both good and bad, but the reactors simply limit the options on the polls to those suggestions that strike a good balance between "the reactors will enjoy this" and "the fans will enjoy this"". I guess if you keep redefining your argument you can never be wrong. Anyway as I said before this really a waste of time because Cassie's not going to change a working formula because you and few others don't like it. You need to either accept that or move on. That's what I'm going to do - move on from this ridiculous conversation.

2023-07-07 03:02:57 +0000 UTC@Richard Maurer Another point I will add that is different about this channel: every time I see a poll it is full of things that I have never heard of and when I try to research them so that I can pick one based on its reputation I don't hear anything appealing to me. So I just don't vote. I haven't done any analysis on the polls here, but I do remember a similar situation happened once on another channel, and many people were commenting that they just sat out of the vote because they had no idea. And I could see that compared to other polls there were significanly less people voting. So was that outcome a representation of "what the patrons wanted to see"? Not really. But technically this person had done exactly what you are describing.

So what we end up with, is movies that are hot and that end up performing very well on YT. I never said "reasonable scores on YT". There's no such thing as a "score" on YT. If you look back at the thread I'm talking about reasonable score on Rotten Tomatoes. Like something above 55% audience score. But since you asked, the channels I'm talking about get about 90k to 200k for a movie.

Because I'm currently a member of 6 reaction channels and in the past a considerable number more and not one of them did a majority of the movie selections themselves. Some do a few now and then but nowhere near a majority of them. I also subscribe to many more reactors on YT and the vast majority of them rely on polling and patron choices. So don't try to pretend Cassie's channel is some kind of outlier among reactor channels. And what exactly do you consider "reasonable scores" on YT? Realistically if they're consistently below 20k the reactor isn't doing well, and under 40k isn't exactly lighting up the YT analytics either. You say you don't know what I'm talking about but I think the problem might be on your end. None of this really matters anyway as the way Cassie has been doing things has been working well for her, she's one of the most popular (there's that word again) reactors on YT and I guarantee she's not going to change her way of doing things just to please you.

Over the years I have been a patron of between 5 - 10 reaction channels and all of them had similar or even more subscribers on YouTube/Patreon. And literally every one of them, except this one has a policy where the reeactor/s will only put suggestions on the poll that the reactor is interested in watching and they freely tell the patrons that and people accept it. And one of those channels is paying several full time reactors, several part time reactors, and several editors. I admit that they have many TV shows that I'm not interested in watching, but they're not low scoring shows. Its just that they're a genre I don't want to commit to for several months. But the movies have reasonable scores the vast majority of the time, even if they're not a genre I'm into. So I don't know what you're talking about.

You, me, and everyone else may not always like those choices, but they represent what the majority wants and are what makes the channel viable for Cassie to continue to do. It's as simple as that, and it's not going to change. Anyone that thinks any reactor is going to be able to run a channel based on less popular but more "worthy" films is living in a dream world.

Its you who is having a go at me. Why does it offend you so much that I want to share my opinion? Don't I have just as much right as anybody else, so long as I am following the rules and being respectful? If you people are not happy with my opinion just ignore it and move on, just like some people suggested I do with the reactions to films that I don't like.

If you were correct, then most reaction channels would see a fairly even spread of views between their videos but they don't. In fact, when I look at the PIB YouTube channel and sort all videos by popularity I find it very easy to spot reactions that I am very interested in watching. Clearly, this is not a coincidence. This phenomenon occurs precisely because the vast majority of people want to see someone react to a good film or TV show. Most people are not interested in watching somebody reacting to lousy dialogue and dull scenes. If this was just about voyeurism and community, we would be spending our time watching Twitch instead, where those aspects are more strongly emphasized.

There were also plenty of "OHs", "Oh My's" and "Oh Goshes" but I did just the complete OMG's. Cassie didn't have has many as I first thought as I've only got her down for 20. Carly on the other hand made up for it as I've got her down for a whopping 66 (plus one "Absolutely not!!"). Very thankful Ben is doing better as well.

2023-07-06 07:42:48 +0000 UTCWhile I can appreciate the sentiment of time being precious and not a thing you want to spend idly, maybe it should bare mentioning that the act of watching another persons reaction to a movie or show is not primarily about one's own enrichment, but instead at its core is equal parts communal voyeurism and symbiotic sharing of interests. You aren't really "watching" a movie or show when you watch these; you are seeing in semi-real time how others are reacting to something as we all communally watch along, and while I'm not saying that as a knock against whatsoever, it is still distinctly its own separate experience (as humans we tend to love sharing favorite stories with one another). If what Cassie and her family choose to watch at any given time doesn't really agree with you, sit that one out. Maybe share your own favorite "stories" that you think they would enjoy. As an aside: cultivating a set of people in your life that you trust for movie recommendations would be a better use of your time than worrying about rotten tomatoes scores, in my opinion. The RT score is only an aggregated percentage of critics and audience with which a movie positively resonated, and you may find there are films out there that maybe didn't work for either critics nor audiences but still become a personal classic for you.

But generally it is common sense that if only 30% of Rotten Tomatoes viewers like a movie, it is likely that very few subscribers to a reaction channel are going to enjoy that movie. It is extremely rare that an amazing, worthwhile movie gets an appallingly low audience score. Usually that only happens if there is something politically motivated about an aspect of an otherwise good film, like rebooting a popular film (or adapting a popular comic/game/book) with woke stuff inserted in there by Hollywood.

People who only watch popular movies? I've seen hundreds of movies and TV shows. I'd say about 10% of those are truly worth watching and rewatching. I'd never have gotten to that without watching all the movies I've had. I became more picky about what I watched in later years, but really even with the best of intentions it's trial and error. I've found gems that I wouldn't have thought I would have liked and likewise seen popular movies which I've thought were terrible. PIB movies 95% of these polls my picks never get chosen! My own PIB requests I've chosen films which are great, don't have a lot of votes, but things I think Cassie enjoy. I suspect a lot of people do the same because it's her channel, and they want her reaction. No channel is going to be able to give you what you desire. So often I come here, and see an interesting movie title, and am keen to pay the $5 to rent the film so I can watch it for the first time. But when I do a quick look at the Rotten Tomatoes film review website, just to be sure the film is worth my time, I find terrible critic and audience reviews. Dantes Peak is another of these.

I experienced the entire eruption, drove through the intial eruption/ash fallout, that mixed with a typhoon, so it was like wet cement falling out of the sky, sticking to the windshield This movie really reminded me of my hell on earth there. If you get a chance, search Youtube for that eruption. It was insane. Cooled the earth's temperature for a couple of years because of the amount of ash blown into the atmosphere.
