True Lies (1994) - Full Reaction

Well well well we have officially watched number one!! This was so fun, it had that 90's action nostalgia that makes you smile! It was cheesy at times and the friend bugged us but we had a blast!

Direct link in case the above player doesn't work.

As I write this, you can watch True Lies for free on YouTube!

True Lies (1994) - Full Reaction

Comments

It´s nice to seen this movie with you both. Was a solid Arnold movie. I´ve just come along with, how Americans saying "Schwarzenegger". Have a beautiful weekend

Michael Pullmann

Do they know that James Cameron directed this movie? Cos they looked away as his name came on, bugs me when they do that.

JPDotCom23

I know you don't do series but given how much you enjoyed this one. I feel like Arnold's new show FUBAR would be well recieved. Maybe an episode a week, it's only 8 for the current season.

Bubba Fett

👍

Larry Darrell

People who say stuff like that still watch pornography. Maybe they can watch True Lies in their bedroom alone with the lights off.

Jon Jon the Milkshake Man

Times have Changed. Oh Well is Right.

Larry Darrell

Haven't watched the reaction yet but based on the comments it seems the verdict was lukewarm? Very surprised by this. People too often recommend their favorites without regard to reactors' tastes but this movie... I would have 100% sworn you two would love it. It's thrilling but most importantly for you two, *good-natured* fun. A couple's drama masquerading as a Bond-clone spy tale. Ah well.

Julien

Awesome 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

Björn Karlsson

Production Designer - Peter Lamont… Long, Long Time Set Director/Art Director /Production Designer for Bond… James Bond. Did Anyone Else hear the Halloween Theme, when the side of Simon’s Trailer was cut off? After enjoying watching Cassie and Carly watch One of the Most Crazy, Action-Packed, FUN FUN Movies from before the Double Aughts… then reading some comments, and realizing people got Serious about True Lies (1994). I got to say again… I Miss the 90s. Also, so is the Dancing Scene “Uncomfortable Cringe” now?

Larry Darrell

Arnold: “Get to the car.” Cassie: “Get to the choppa.” LOL

John Rando

Yes!! I replied to someone else’s comment about the Harrier in The Living Daylights further on up. A little late I guess. I even forgot about Art Malik. I’m slipping.

Larry Darrell

Ok Bjorn- challenge accepted.

My_Cousin_Mose

first time watcher here as well - I thought it was just ok. I loved the premise and there were some funny moments but, I just dont think its for me. Watching it with you guys made it more fun though, as always

Hannah Mather

It seams like popcorn request has crashed 🤔😔😔

Björn Karlsson

Even better. Request it in popcorn request. It´s only Mike and me who has requested that movie so far (McMartin trial). And if you are in the mood, request Show me love as well

Björn Karlsson

True lies is definitely a go to movie for some fun escapism. I had such a crush on Jamie Lee Curtis from this movie, I think this was the first movie I saw her in. It’s the perfect mix of comedy and action and a go to movie a few times a year. The visual effects stand up to todays standards. The harrier at the end does not look like a model and a rig! I knew you guys would love it! Very happy it’s been ticked off the list and I’m looking forward to your The Mummy reaction later in the year!

Biggman83

Hey I've ventured down crazier rabbit holes than that haha. And Mike you got my word if Indictment ever comes up in a poll it will get my vote. You'll find any excuse to slip in a recommendation to that one and I appreciate the dedication.

My_Cousin_Mose

Someone needs to forewarn these girls not to take these movies seriously. These are Action / Comedy, like Twins and Kindergarten Cop.

John Cranberry

I also know a movie that no channel has reacted to 😊 Fcuking Åmål aka Show me love. A coming-of-age masterpiece from Sweden (HUGE suprise that I mentioned that movie 😬🫣)

Björn Karlsson

I think Cassie's audience/patreon members recommend movies that she might like. Cassie is a sucker for romance so it makes sense that people think she might like this one as this one has a pretty good balance of action/romance/comedy. You usually get one or the other. A blend like this is kinda rare.

Andy Eggroll

I have a theory (partially joking) that about the same 20 people with a lot of disposable income are the ones controlling most of the "reactors" and they just want to watch the same movies over and over and over. Just searching for 'True Lies reaction' on YouTube I get You, me, and the Movies, EOM, Asia and BJ, Dasha, Cinebinge, Ashleigh, TBR, Octo, Lauren, Jen, and 12 more before it starts gettiing into clips and stuff. It is seemingly rare that people just watch a movie few others have reacted to. Cinebinge had Sucker Punch a little while ago, Cassie had Maverick, Jen had Under Siege, but those few are surrounded by "30 other people have done this" movies. And my obligatory suggestion in case Cassie reads this- nobody has reacted to Indictment: The McMartin Trial (1995). A mostly true (some time compression) courtroom drama I'm pretty sure Cassie would find interesting.

Mike Lemon

It's almost as if the number one wasn't based on your personal preference...

Dazman

I just can't understand how this movie was the number 1 requested movie. It's a fine popcorn flick but thats about it. Not really my kind of movie anymore.

My_Cousin_Mose

This movie helps explain why James Cameron has cycled through five wives.

Carol_White

True Lies directed by James Cameron, his next movie was Titanic... guess what other movie actually premiered back in 1997 on the same weekend: your next Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies.

Andrew Roach

This reaction didn't disappoint and more or less was what I was hoping for. I should have counted the number "Oh my gosh!" and "Holy crap!" to see whether Cassie or Carly said them more. 😆 By the time this movie was made, 10 years after THE TERMINATOR, Arnold already was a well-known and respected action star, but also proved that he has great comedy chops in movies like TWINS or KINDERGARTEN COP. Here, he is doing a great job combining the two. But for me, one of the highlights of the movie is the performance of Jamie Lee Curtis as Helen. I also love her very much in A FISH CALLED WANDA, and its spiritual sequel the FIERCE CREATURES. But this might be her most complex and favorite performance of mine. She shows great range and versatility as she transforms from a bored and frustrated housewife to a confident and sexy spy. She also has great chemistry with Arnold and their marital quarrel is the heart of the movie. The other highlight is the still amazing action sequences that mostly hold up even 29 years later. I also have to mention Bill Paxton. His take on the sleazy, cowardly and pathetic Simon character was one of his best and most memorable performances in his career stealing the spotlight whenever he is on screen. Maybe an Arnold comedy poll later this year? He is a much more versatile actor than a terminator. 😉

Gábor Árki

The plane at the end that Harry was flying is an actual aircraft called the McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II and it was designed for vertical landing and take off without a runway. The modern day equivalent is the Lockheed-Martin F-35 Lightning II.

Bammer

That's a good call. I haven't seen this movie since I was young and it was on VHS. Back then you could not tell. Now it is very clear.

Myles Away

Arnie said in a recent interview that his new Netflix series, FUBAR, is basically a spiritual successor to True Lies. This alone will get me to watch this. Otherwise, I would probably have put this on the back burner. https://wegotthiscovered.com/tv/arnold-schwarzenegger-admits-his-new-netflix-series-is-basically-the-sequel-everybody-wanted-but-didnt-get/

Ron

I have a theory that Cameron is taking so long with the 4k release because he's doing face replacements on all the stunt scenes. They are SO obviously not Arnie doing most of it, particularly the opening ski sequence. If I can see that on DVD, imagine how bad it looks in 4k!

Odd Thomas

Supposedly coming this year. https://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/031523-1100 However, the anticipation for both "True Lies" and "The Abyss" being released in HD, let alone UHD, has been a long, long, long time coming and most of us are of the "I'll believe when I see it" skeptics.

Brian

I loved how excited Cassie got when she thought Arnie was going to jump off the skyscraper roof on the horse. "Yes! Yes!! Yes!!!" She was all in! 😆

Brian

(wearily dusts his True Lies DVD off, knowing he'll have to pause every couple of minutes to sync. Stupid DVDs! Where's that 4k Mr Cameron!)

Odd Thomas

I totally get where you're coming from.. I felt the same about the feel of it I just didn't game it out the way you did. I think in the 90's terrorism while still horriffic had become a kind of Keystone Cops thing in the media.. until 9/11 of course.

Andrew Rose

I used to watch this movie constantly in the 90's. I always thought of it as a comedy, pure and simple. Watching it with you, I realize how much the world has changed since it came out. I couldn't understand how you were both so horrified at the scenes with Helen and Simon. I used to find them terribly funny, but then I realized our perspective on how women should be treated has chanced in thirty years. Also, this movie was pre 9/11 and our ideas on terriorism and such has undergone a tremendous change. So, it was very informative to watch this film with your modern perspectives. I feel I learned something new. I am so enjoying this experience of watching films with you! Please keep it up.

sharkey197

Excellent reaction video again ladies I’m so glad Carly watched this one as well. As I thought the different reactions were brilliant as Cassie looked like she wasn’t sure how to react to some scenes as Carly was just smiling and giggling through them. Especially the scene when she ripped the bits off her dress. Really glad you like it as it’s one of my favourite Action movies.

Dean Holt

Sorry but the Harrier was originally made by the British company Hawker which then became part of British Aerospace. They then partnered with McDonnell Douglas and they made them for the US. I don’t often correct people but the Harrier was and still is one of my favourite looking planets I’m also from England and quite proud we made it.

Dean Holt

Yeah I’ve suggested that one as well along with Twins.

Dean Holt

Arnie did a fat stack of comedies, you're really missing out.

Jon Johns

I like when Cassie managed to mime a punch at the exact moment that Harry "punched" Simon in the car! And also when she said "Holy crap!" when she saw the guy on the toilet and then seemed to realise what she had said 😆😆

Dazman

I see that others have said it but, yes, the Harrier "Jump Jets" are capable of vertical take-off and landing (though you didn't comment on the landings!) as well as conventional runway. You have have seen them in other movies, including The Living Daylights. No need to suspend DISbelief in that regard!

Dazman

Another comedic Arnold film is "Junior". Jamie Lee Curtis is awesome in "Fierce Creatures" (I can't remember if you've already seen "A Fish Called Wanda", as well.) Another good movie written by James Cameron is "Strange Days", and another humorous married-spies flick is "Undercover Blues" with Kathleen Turner and Daniel Quaid.

Singing Wordwright

"the treatment of ... middle-easterners has always been problematic." What? I didn't see anything in this movie. They were just the "bad guy" (and an "Asian" was too, and a "middle eastern" guy was one of the good guys).

Mike Lemon

The 2000 version?

Mike Lemon

I'm surprised you didn't remember The Harrier's vertical takeoff when you saw The Living Daylights near the start of the movie. Also Art Malak returns from TLD. He plays the main villain in this film.

ROBERT CLARK

so a little real world explanation on the runaway Ingram: while the scene where it falls down the steps and shoots all of those terrorists is exaggerated for the sake of Hollywood story crafting, the genesis of that malfunction is based on a real life design flaw in the mac-10. It fires from an open bolt which has to proceed forward to strip off a round from the magazine and then the firing pin causes the round to fire. Unfortunately, enough of a jolt to the reciprocating cocking lever on the top of the weapon can cause the weapon to fire on its own, so that dropping the submachine gun can fairly easily cause an accidental discharge. I suppose the idea behind the stair case shenanigans was that she dropped the weapon and the charging handle was bumped multiple times to keep causing the weapon to fire and at least some of the rounds went in to the area where the terrorists were approaching. The other part of that equation is that the mac-10 has a VERY high cyclic rate, around 1200 rounds a minute, meaning the weapon would most likely be empty halfway down the stairs or even earlier.....TMYK

Greg

Hi Cass, another movie I believe you and Carly will enjoy and have fun watching with Arnold is Kindergarten Cop.

Brandon N.

It's an entertaining flick.

G

In all honesty, I've never been as enamored of this film as many are (it always struck me as Cameron's weakest work). It is often fun and the action is truly spectacular, but the humor is frequently crass and mean-spirited (I noticed your face registering what looked like discomfort quite a bit, Cassie, during the film's crueler parts) and the treatment of women and middle-easterners has always been problematic. It also has issues with pacing and just general excess. It starts out great with two slambang set pieces, turns into a bit of a slog for the marital strife middle act then gets good again for the exciting action sequences on the island and bridge... but the movie just doesn't know when to stop. It goes on too long with one climax too many. It just becomes exhausting. Overall a mixed bag of a movie, but it is entertaining and I hadn't seen it in a long time so it was enjoyable revisiting it with you ladies. :-)

Stick Figure Studios

Gotta love those 90’s action comedies! Fun reaction ladies! I really enjoyed that! And yes, the daughter was played by Eliza Dushku. From Bring it On and Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show. Also, if you feel like exploring the softer side of Arnold. May I suggest Twins or Kindergarten Cop.

Robert da Spruce

Remember when you were reacting to Die Hard 2 and there were planes being sent into a holding pattern around the airport and Carly said she thought planes could hover? And of course everyone assured you they could not? I knew it was going to come back to you whenever you got around to watching True Lies and it did NOT disappoint. Love the reaction ladies. This was one of your best! BTW the plane in this one is a Boeing Harrier, one of a very small handful of genuine VTOL (Vertical Takeoff and Landing) planes. The overwhelming majority of planes cannot hover. But that one really can.

David Collins

The jet in the movie was state of the art when this movie came out. It’s called a barrier and it’s designed to take off vertically. Most jets can’t do that. Cameron is obsessed with aviation and this thing always sparked his interest.

djKENTO

Gone in 60 seconds gone in 60 seconds PLEASE

Marvin dishman

sorry about that! It's been "processing on youtube for 15 hours, and it says there are 9 hours remaining... I have no clue why the videos take so long to process on the full-length channel. It's 4k in its original form!!

Cassie

Great reaction, very fun movie that I've seen so many times, but not in its entirety for quite a few years. Begging to see a reaction to IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER from you two.

SeanATX

Cassie used to do that. Take donations for movie requests. She no longer does it.

Philip Alan

And Henry Hooker from Tombstone! :)

Philip Alan

"Stick around."

Philip Alan

It’s so funny when I heard “think of shield”. Cameron LOVES Nick Fury and in the comics he was designed after that actor a lot. It’s a total Nick Fury homage.

djKENTO

The look of concern & stress from Cassie during this whole movie... awwwwww

Philip Alan

AIRCRAFT ANSWERS: What you saw is known as 'Vertical Take Off and Landing Capability', and NO, normal commercial aircraft do NOT have it. The MILITARY, however have a need for it at times, when no runways are available and so SOME, (VERY FEW), of them like the Marine Harrier, (depicted) and the propeller driven Osprey, used by many of the other services, have it. Great reaction as always ladies! So glad you finally watched this one, How you need to watch Gina Davis and Samuel L Jackson in 'The Long Kiss Goodnight.' It's another spy'ish movie with lots of action and cool plot twists that keep you on the edge of your seat! :-)

'Pappy' Johnston

Great movie. Great reaction, Ladies. I have always loved this movie. And yes there are some planes that can hover. The British Harrier that was in this movie. There is also the Soviet Yak-41. And the newest the American F-35B. This movie is just great fun. I am glad you finally watched it and brought Carly along for the ride.

Rick Williams

Harrier jets can do vertical takeoffs and landings.

Ben Livingstone

Cassie and Carly are such a gift. I feel like I’m 22 again.

Uncle Phoenix

“She even took the ice cube trays out of the freezer.” —Classic

Uncle Phoenix

Lots of haters out there these days, fixated more on "The Message" to the detriment of all other positive qualities in a movie. I don't care for James Cameron so much as a writer, but the man is maybe the greatest action director of all time*, and he was absolutely landing it with True Lies IMO. *Not just greatest action director for set-pieces alone, but in the moment-to-moment movement of a story as well (and of course always in collaboration with his editors and post-production team). And I mean that even when considering the other top maestros of shooting a movie, like John McTiernan, John Milius, and Steven Spielberg.

Chris B.

Great reaction. Still hoping for Predator 2 and maybe even Alien vs. Predator in the future.

Uncle Phoenix

FR!

Uncle Phoenix

I am definitely adding this to my rotation of favorite Cassie and Carly videos.

Uncle Phoenix

Yeah, not really the best movie...messages are a bit messed up, but it is somewhat entertaining, and it was fun with you two. I would have NEVER thought this was the number 1 request. There are just so many fantastic movies that I know either one or both of you will love, and this isn't really one of them, but I am glad you did it. Its unfortunate that lesser known movies that are perfect gems will never get a reaction. Support Your Local Sheriff, Second Hand Lions, Ladyhawke, I mean there are just so many that the popular vote will never let rise to the surface. Do you think there may be a point where you may weave in a lesser known movie or two? And I know you have done some - Rear Window was a fantastic choice, and there have been a few others. Can we donate money for requests? Is that a thing?

Damon Corrigan

Carly is always a welcome addition to a reaction.

Timothy Burrows

I didn't know it was becoming fashionable to denigrate this movie, but from reading these comments, maybe it is so. Might have something to do with James Cameron, the way people talk about Avatar these days. Maybe I have simple tastes, but I like all of James Cameron movies, and keep in mind that since True Lies he has only made 3 theatrical movies, Titanic, and Avatars 1 & 2 and a few documentaries here and there. He has been fabulously successful and I think his success is deserved. Great reaction. The ladies were sold on the mixture of action, suspense, comedy and romance. I think this was THE action movie of the '90's, none better. Thought Cassie had forgotten she watched Predator, but she remembered the "Get to the choppa" line! Eliza Dushku from Bring It On and Buffy was the daughter Dana. Ben-Hur/Moses himself Charlton Heston was the eye patch wearing spy boss. Jamie Lee Curtis has rarely been better. Been waiting a long time for this reaction, and I was thrilled by Cassie and Carly being thrilled. Will watch it all again tomorrow! We did it! We got Cassie and Carly to the hovering planes!

MikeLL

whats with the video quality? (360p)?

Superbowl champions

The Harrier was the first plane that could hover like that, that I'm aware of. One type of the new F-35 planes that came out in the last few years can do that too I think.

Brian's Dog

The jet is a Marine Corps harrier and it does take off like that.

Michael Lynch

You are correct, sir. This movie is hugely popular. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen anybody say what you just said.

Michael Lynch

Lots of over the top action in this one but the marital strife between the taskers is what really sets this one apart. The opening is very James bondish, you get a motorcycle vs horse chase scene. Vertical take off Harrier jets all while a couple trys to patch up their marriage. There is a reason Jamie Lee Curtis was known as "the body" great stuff overall ladies. In an interesting '90s counterpart I think you guys should watch The Saint with Val Kilmer and Elizabeth shue. Somewhat underrated in my mind.

Canadianant

Hey Cassie, you ever gonna watch The Matrix Revolutions?

Colin Gutierrez

Just for clarification a nuke cannot just explode when fired at it has to be armed first.

Night King01

Can someone please make a Carly DON'T QUIZ ME meme please and thank you

Jason Dolan

I kept waiting for you to recognize Moses and Judah Ben-Hur, but it didn't happen. Oh, well. You're definitely getting a lot better.

LvB-0909

Do woment want a guy who can bench press over 350 pounds several times, or this that over ruled by the skinny guy with 6 pack abs? A lot of us guys back then wondered this for real.

Richard Bourne

So, I was in college in the 2nd half of the 80s after graduating college in 85. My roomate in college was huge into Arnold and body building. The question to me was are women into this? Eventually it became Arnold or Sly vs. Brad Pitt and Brad Pitt won, right??????????????

Richard Bourne

Yeah, Bond, James Bond, American on steriods, litterally.

Richard Bourne

The bridge scene featuring the Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys is amazing and the behind the scenes of how the did everything is crazy, highly recommend this film breaking down the scene if you have a free 25 mins. Link - https://youtu.be/PcFbgZFRRT4 The Seven Mile Bridge was also featured in Licence To Kill (1989) as well a few years before True Lies (1994) where a van also went flying off the bridge.

Isaac

This kinda started a good run of spy movies, this came out in 94, goldeneye in 95 then mission impossible in 96. Then tomorrow never dies and the Saint. Since yall seem to be hitting all the spy genre pretty hard I feel likenyou need to squeeze "top secret" in there. Early 80s, Val Kilmer, fun cheesy.

Bubba Fett

Hey Cassie! Loved your reaction to this movie. I know u love romantic comedies So would I love to have u react to tu Jhoothi main makkar (2023) it means (You are a liar, I'm a liar) it came out this year & it's available on Netflix and please watch it with Cattie. This movie has great dance numbers and a fun family dramedy.

Ahmad Zain

Bill Paxton is the stealth MVP of the film. He steals every scene that he's in.

Matt Rose

Sorry Cassie didn't realize you figured it out during the 🍿👍 need to watch whole thing don't I 😂

David Freese

What can I say? I’m a spy…

JL_83

"Don't ignore me, Harry.. That's rude!" One of my favourite lines ever

Coleton B.

Arnie!!! This cheese makes me miss the 90’s 😁

Wes

I knew it! I was suggesting it so many times since I joined Patreon for the T2 reaction and it was on the top of my reaction wish list. The only thing I was worried that it might became overhyped sitting on the #1 spot so long and getting recommended so often. It is 2am here so having to wait to watch this reaction until the next evening will be a small torture. 😄 For me this is one of the best action comedies of not just the '90s, but all time. Also, given not having a widespread home video release since the late 90s and absent on streaming for so long made it like a forbidden fruit. It is a very unique entry in Cameron's filmography. The only one I would classify to be a comedy and the only remake he made. Btw, I'm also hoping this will pique your interest in watching some of Arnold's comedies. Both the TWINS (1988) and KINDERGARTEN COP (1990) are very fun. If someone hasn't seen it yet, a great YT 25m video about: How James Cameron Destroyed a Real Bridge Without CGI by Paul E.T. https://youtu.be/PcFbgZFRRT4

Gábor Árki

“Sir, may I see your invitation?” “Sure, here’s my invitation.” *Boom* Some of Arnold’s lines are pure gold 😂

Josh Phillips

Don't forget he was also in both Terminator and Aliens ( Hudson :D ) , Titanic and Frailty ( though Im not sure whether or not you all would want to watch that one. Well done but creepy af)

GamerGal8684

Bill Paxton you also saw him in Tombstone, sadly he passed away a few years ago.. :( Also in a few other James Cameron films Titanic, Aliens, Terminator to name a few.. I do think his best performance, although in this one he was super slimy and creepy, but his best acting was w/ Costner on the mini series Hatfield & McCoys. must see that....

Ryan Towell

Arnold is numero uno

Burrito Jimmy

Cassie & Carly with Arnold, JL Curtis, James Cameron, Tom Arnold, Bill Paxton and Tia Carrere with a cameo of Charles Heston !!! Gotta love it. The Searchers !!! Seen one of your "competitors" did a reaction to it. Looking forward to the both of your reaction

Bill Maurer

Tbh this is probably the best performance from Tom Arnold and he’s probably playing it how Cameron wanted. I do personally like him in this but it’s perfectly fine if your guys didn’t as we all have different options. And one of the reason’s I love watching your reactions is because your honest and I really respect that. But it sounds like you had fun watching it and I can’t wait to watch it again tomorrow.

Dean Holt

The guy with the eye patch was Moses/Ben-Hur.

Bill Hayden

Might be an Unpopular opinion but this movie does nothing for me definitely one of Arnie’s weaker movies.

Alex Gorell

Cassie... you did watch another Arnie movie... Predator... personally one of my favorite reactions of yours. 😁. Edit.. you remembered.

Robin Craft

OMG! OMG! it's happening. We're here

Flyin Hawaiian

I agree

nick bell

I watched True Lies in the theater with my wife. We enjoyed it but, I have to say, the adoration that’s been heaped on it in the ensuing three decades is way overblown IMO.

Just Plain Bob

Move over Arnie. Gotta make room for Brendan Fraser now! 🙂

Dave Hill

My day is always better when a big popcorn in bed movie drops. Thank you!

JC762

I liked the scene with Tom Arnold when he was hiding behind the street light getting shot at, and checks all his bits afterwards, but otherwise I can see how you could be annoyed

Cole Jennett

the “i remember the first time i was shot out of a cannon” line still gets every time even after all these years

Chip MC

Arnie is the shiz!! I love JLC in this movie, still to soon for any spoilers, loved it always take time to Tango C&C ❤🔥🔥

Celeste McAllister

Been waiting for this one for a long time! I guess I know what I’ll be watching tonight! 😀

Robert da Spruce

hell yeah im stopping everything and watching this right now

Chip MC

Yeah Tom Arnold can be pretty annoying sometimes
