Seabiscuit (2003) - Full Reaction

I really loved this one. It was heartwarming and special. I think you know by now I really love based on true stories and sports films and apparently Jeff Bridges! Would I have recast Toby Mcguire? Perhaps, but it was still a  pretty perfect movie to me!

Seabiscuit (2003) - Full Reaction

Plz watch Secretariat..movie about the greatest horse ever and even listed by ESPN as one of the greatest athletes of all time

Dana Regan

No, this is the first time I’ve seen ads on one of your reactions.

DWG15

No, first time I've seen it happen on your YouTube PiB patreon exclusive channel. Had about 4 ads - typical YouTube shenanigans

John Drake

Hmm.. it's not monetized on our end. It's just an unlisted video like all the other reactions. The channel we use to post on isn't even capable of being monetized. Has this happened before with any of the other reactions??

Cassie

Why is this movie monetized? The ads every five minutes make the reaction unwatchable.

DWG15

Great movie, great cast 'Tucker:A man and his dream' I 2nd this movie..

Celeste McAllister

These scenes with Jeff Bridges selling and promoting automobiles reminded me of his role in the film "Tucker" about the visionary and innovative fellow trying to develop and manufacture his car design while being strong armed by the big established manufacturers. It's a good film and Jeff is great as Tucker. Definitely worth a watch.

BRT

To answer your question about the jockey or the horse, for myself it's not so much about physical strength as it is about communication and empathy, how well I impress on my horse, how well I know my horse and how well she knows her rider, that's me! The five points towards trust method of training,in short it is both horse and jockey..

Celeste McAllister

Damn Cassie. You were emotional. It was my first time watching this movie also. Who knew it would be so moving. Great movie. Great reaction. This was more than just a movie about a race horse. This was a story about spirit and heart. And not giving up on someone.

Rick Williams

I have been WAITING for you to react to this one and your reaction didn't disappoint! The only way it could have been better would have been for Carly to join you. I don't blame you for getting emotional. I've seen this movie a number of times and I still teared up half a dozen times just now. I read Laura Hillenbrand's book which was the main source material for the movie and if I remember correctly, Red did see his family again. I really wish they'd included it in the movie. They lost touch when the racetrack where Red was working went under and in that day and age there was just no way for Red's parents to find him once he hit the road having to take care of himself. They found him again when he made a name for himself as a jockey. And the other movie-worthy gem they didn't include was that Red ended up marrying the nurse who looked after him in the hospital. Thanks for the reaction, and let me put in a word for The Black Stallion, if the mood ever strikes you.

Rosanne Stewart

Great reaction to an inspiring film! I agree with other posters, the book by Laura Hillenbrand is also excellent. She also wrote “Unbroken,” the incredible survival tale of Olympic athlete Louis Zamperini during World War II that was made into a film by Angelina Jolie in 2014. Jerry Seinfeld also has a classic routine about horse racing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIXAcTEffek

Steve Holton

Secretariat was an absolutely amazing horse. When she gets to it, I think Cassie is going to absolutely love that movie. Being the greatest Kentucky Derby winner of all time, I'm holding out hope it might get a watch on principle at some point. I saw a review once of the movie where the writer complained about the plot being unrealistic, how the finish of the final race wasn't believable. I just rolled my eyes, because if you've seen the real footage, it happened just like the movie portrays it. It's breathtakingly well done.

David Collins

Along the same lines of Seabiscuit how about another movie this time directed by Elizabeth Banks starring Keri Russell about yet another true story involving an animal yet again overcoming great odds.. 🐻‍❄

Tonio

This was a great reaction and movie. I knew Cassie would love it, and I hope she watches Secretariat soon, because she will really love that one, too. Secretariat was the fastest horse ever and the movie was also really good. Cassie will get teared up watching that legend of a horse.

Johnny

Jeff Bridges was also fantastic in the mystery thriller Arlington Rd. with Tim Robbins and Joan Cusack.

David Collins

Jeff Bridges did actually play the President in THE CONTENDER along with Sam Elliot (Virgil Earp from Tombstone) Joan Allen (Richard Gere's wife from Hatchi) and Gary Oldman (the main bad guy in Air Force One). He would join your list of most beloved fictional Presidents for sure.

Shawn Kildal

Wonderful reaction Cassie! I’m glad you enjoyed the movie. It really is a beautiful story. Even more so because it’s based on real events. A few fun facts. Red’s friend, George Woolf, is played by Gary Stevens. A Hall of Fame Jockey, who has won the Kentucky Derby on three separate occasions. Also War Admiral’s jockey Charley, was played by Chris McCarron. Another Hall of Fame Jockey, that has also won the Kentucky Derby on two occasions. I believe Gary Stevens is also one of the commentators on the broadcast of the Kentucky Derby. I know you have your cousin’s wedding this weekend. But on the off chance you have the time, you should definitely watch the Derby!

Robert da Spruce

Please, please watch the Derby Sat, tune in about 6:45 Eastern time on NBC, post is 6:57, it is the most exciting 2 minutes in sports. My house will be full of folks who only watch one race a year, and this is it. The Derby is all about tradition, so we dress up, drink our mint juleps, and cheer for our favorite. After watching that I promise you will want to watch Secretariat, the greatest horse that ran the three races of the triple crown.

Keith Jones

Great reaction and great movie. Really enjoyed it. As you said Cassie a movie full of good people.

Canadianant

Riding a horse at top speed is one of the most exhilarating and scariest things I’ve ever done in my life. You explained it perfectly @Ben L.

Rose

An amazing movie!

Keith Jones

He's moving like a tremendous machine!

Mike McLaughlin

When a horse starts to gallop under you, a lot of times they'll just keep running of their own volition. When that happens, you can feel the horse's joy at being allowed to do the thing it was born to do, and you feel a surge of that same joy, yourself. You are no longer the master of the situation. You never really were. Rather, you are fortunate. You are being given the privilege of participating in the horse's life and nature, to have a connection with a member of another species. For that moment, you are no longer a single human being. You are horse and rider, together.

Cassie, I am a 71 year old retired teacher and my favorite course was Critical viewing, where we watched and studied films. I used to love watching my kids watch movies they had never seen, which was most of them since they considered 'old' movies anything made before the year 2000. I have only recently discovered these reaction videos on youtube and you are by far my favorite reactor. I love watching you react to the things you see and don't ever apologize for being emotional! That's what movies are supposed to do to us, make us feel. I have gotten so much enjoyment out of viewing your videos. It reminds me of the class I used to teach. You are an exquisite young lady and you bring so much to the experience. Please, keep it up! Us retirees desperately need you!

sharkey197

In answer to a question that you asked a couple of times, do horses like to run? YES. Horses love to run. It's instinctual. Especially thoroughbred horses. Horses are herbivorous pack animals. One of the ways they establish dominance within the social hierarchy of their herds in the wild is running to the front of the pack when they run.

Chris H.

I love this film and the book, which I would suggest if you like to read. It has some really great insight to not just Seabiscuit but to the time period and all those involved in this story. The film is a reasonably faithful adaption of real events. The main points of the film are true and the changes aren't a big deal...except one. The film implies that Charles Howard lost his only son. But, he had others. In fact, Elizabeth Banks' character, when she first talks to Charles in the film, refreshes his memory by saying that her sister was marrying- and he cut her off. Had he not, she'd have said her sister was marrying his son. His 2nd wife was the sister of the wife of his oldest son. I saw this first in the theater when it came out and it was one of the few times I've ever experienced where the audience let out a massive cheer, when Biscuit won the Match Race (you can see the race footage and hear the original radio broadcast on YouTube).

Kevin M. Pitts

Have you seen Dreamer with baby Dakota Fanning and Kurt Russell? Such a beautiful movie!

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Oh wow, hearing David McCullough narrating makes me want to rewatch all 10+ hours of Ken Burns' "Baseball".

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

i could picture jake gyllenhal ?

Cassie

i think i need to watch that one too

Cassie

Gawwwd damn how much is your monthly bill for them all?

Alex Gorell

I pay for 7 different steaming services. I am amazed that I still only have about half of the PiB movies available to me. Sad face.

JC762

Knew you would love this one......been waiting for you to watch this for a while. Moms knows best!! (you might like Secretariat even more - I don't think its as good a movie, but it pulls at the heart a lot with the Disney touch, and not as historically accurate - but who cares) Great Reaction.

Steve Barrett

Indeed! One of the great things about the age we currently live in is that those old radio serials are readily available on the internet. Thanks to the Internet Archive and radioarchives.com, I’ve been able to locate and download hundreds of old radio serial programs, including more than seventy episodes of The Shadow. Inner Sanctum, Black Museum, Mysterious Traveler, Lights Out, Sleep No More and Weird Circle are just a few of the other radio serials worth checking out. I love those old programs. YouTuber The Late Late Horror Show frequently posts old radio serials on his channel, against a backdrop of a well appointed, darkened room with a fire burning in the fireplace. Makes for cozy listening and he usually posts them in 11 or 12 hour blocks.

Regarding the radio broadcasts of the races: radio is a magical medium that ignites the imagination. I used to listen to legendary broadcaster John Ward’s radio broadcast of the Tennessee Volunteers football games, while watching the games on tv with the volume muted. But, more than just sporting events, radio serials of the ‘30s and ‘40s captured the imagination of people nationwide. Everyone should listen, at least once, to Orson Welles’ legendary broadcast of War of the Worlds. And serials such as The Phantom and The Hermit’s Cave capture the imagination in a way that video never could.

Just Plain Bob

Hi Cassie. Yes, this is a very emotional movie, but what's even better (as you already know) is that it is based on true events. Here is actual/vintage footage of Seabiscuit vs. War Admiral at Pimlico in 1938. Enjoy! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVT2MPNCqgM

Gary David Holbrook

SLITHER is a fun one.

Matt Rose

Cassie should check out Elizabeth Banks’ greatest film, Slither, yet another superb candidate for “Scary But Not Too Scary” October. It was directed by James Gunn, long before he gained fame for directing the Guardians of the Universe films and taking the reigns of the DCEU.

Just Plain Bob

Taking on all comers... come back after come back... what a story! A beautiful, little guy, when America needed it story... a story made for Cassie!

Terry Yelmene

Horse racing movies always hold a place close to my heart because my father was a big horse racing fan. He used to take me and my siblings to the track all the time when I was a kid. Which doesn’t sound very good by today’s standards I suppose. But at the time, wasn’t too unusual. I still have strong sense memories of the track. A strange mix of horses, dirt, stale beer, cheap cigars, and pizza from the concession stand lol. I don’t really follow horse racing anymore. But I still watch the Triple Crown races every year! Looking forward to watching your reaction Cassie!

Robert da Spruce

Hopefully now secretariat

Recast tobey?

The Horse Abides

Choof

Kinda good?

Matt Rose

She'd love FREQUENCY. Lots of good ones on your list!

Matt Rose

Seabiscuit vs War Admiral played HUGE in the movie theater. One of those moments where the entire theater cheered. 'So long, Charlie!' Great movie. The book by Laura Hillenbrand (which this movie is mostly based on) is excellent, by the way. It's well worth seeking out and reading.

Matt Rose

SPOILER Best line in the film and sums up the four storylines. "You don't throw a whole life away just cause he's, banged up a little."

G

Come on Biscuit!!! Peter Parker, Obadiah Stane, Norman Osborn, and Betty Brant all together in this movie; the radio announcer is played by William H. Macy, who you may remember from Fargo, Jurassic Park III, and Air Force One

JL_83

Allen Bond

My wish list for Cassie. Frequency The Abyss Seabiscuit ✔️ The Quick and the Dead Outbreak Thirteen Days Enemy At The Gates Frailty The Cell Spy Game Training Day The Game Fallen (1998) Inside Man Sicario The Blind Swordsman Zatoichi The Devil's Advocate

G

The other horse movies really thought they could beat Seabiscuit. He’s an unbeatable underdog.

Alex Villarreal

The Black Stallion is unbeatable. It’s a work of art.

Rose

I’ve always enjoyed this film and the real story is incredibly moving and inspiring but Tobey ruins some of the appeal for me. The horse race scenes also don’t do it for me in terms of intensity and excitement. The Black Stallion though pulls at one’s heartstrings and inspires dreams. It’s such a powerful film.

Rose

The Black Stallion is better. But glad you liked Seabiscuit. The Searchers ... You knew it was coming

Bill Maurer

One of your warrior Wednesdays, you should react to the lost battalion , I know I have reccomended it a lot , but it is an amazing war movie based on true events and as hard as I've looked on YouTube no other reactors have watched it and it is a movie that is not known and recognized as it should be , I think if we could get this movie in the reaction community then the story can be revisited by many others and the soilders remembered after all the story is over 100 years old , the movie stars rick Schroder and was made in 2001
