[YT Edit] Open Range (2003)

Comments

I watched this in the Theater and as I was leaving, I remarked to another couple of Movie Goers "That was the only film I've seen this summer that was for adults". We need more films like this...

Chris Davis

Another suggestion for Silverado. Besides Kevin Costner (young), there is also Scott Glenn (The Right Stuff), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon series), and a few others that are famous but I don't know if yall would recognize them.

Mark James

Agreed! Silverado is perfect for Cassie and Carly. Need to watch it soon.

Junior

I also recommend Silverado for another western since Cassie likes Kevin Costner. It's a good story with an all star cast.

Una Vez en una Luna Azul

say it loud and say it often! I believe Cassie would love this movie - not just because of the great cast, the fact that it's a love story, and it's smart and funny. I also think she'd love it because it's basically the pre-West Wing. The creator of the West Wing wrote this movie and it has a lot of the same energy, and it even co-stars Jed Bartlet (the actor anyway). And Sue from Open Range!

Walter

I'm going to say it again, you need to watch THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT. Ok, I have said it again.

Jason Fulbright

If you liked Open Range you should check out the western mini series Lonesome Dove with Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones

Jeremy Holbrook

My suggestion for a western is McClintok! John Wayne Rom-Com western. It’s fantastic, possibly my favorite John Wayn e film. There are so many to choose from but I think you’ll really enjoy this one. More fun than the Quiet Man.

Jabowky

I'm not sure but I think Cassie liked Ms Benning as Sydney Wade (the President's girlfriend) in 'The American President.'

Terry Yelmene

Annette Bening was wonderful in this movie. Cassie if you haven’t seen it you should watch Bugsy. Annette Bening is in this movie as well major character excellent performance

Doc Larry

Terrific Film, but I like Surprise Endings myself. Especially when I haven’t seen the Film. :-) Do you Please Mind, not mentioning the Ending?

Larry Darrell

Still can't believe Cassie didn't recognize Duvall from THE GODFATHER.

nick bell

It’s Bluebonnet, lol

JL_83

Open Range is one of my favorite westerns of all time. After being involved with so many overblown epics, Costner and company made a tightly wound film that looks and feels gorgeous. It's filmmaking at its best.

Richard Levesque

If you liked this, the Paramount Plus series 1883 might be for you. Or you might hate it… Hard to say. But is has moments that have a similar vibe and the sweetness and the realism, too. And sure, some people detest it, but that’s more of a general issue these days, I guess.

Christoph Wolf

Another vote for you two to check out Silverado! Costner’s first western and a great, fun, exciting film. When you talk about the ending of these westerns killings you a bit… Silverado is the movie you’re craving.

Cliff Stephenson

Cassie, if you're looking for more Kevin Costner love stories, I suggest "For Love of the Game," with Costner as a major league baseball pitcher and Kelly Preston as the very independent woman he has an on-again off-again relationship with. I can't say it's the greatest movie, but it has its moments, and it has a happy ending (even though it hints at a sad ending).

Dave Sees Movies

She watched Return to Me all the way back in February durning a live watch along in YouTube.

David Freese

"Open Range" truly is the perfect Western for Cassie and Carly! Kudos to all of you who recommended it to them!

David Woodbridge

1. Cassie has never “hated” any movie she’s watched on the channel. There are some that she didn’t like as much as others. 2. She’s already watched Return to Me and loved it.

Tim Raths

She must watch Lonesome Dove!

GzBlack

Thanks

Steve Barrett

I don't see it on the watched list- https://letterboxd.com/pib1/films/

Mike Lemon

Anyone know if Cassie has seen “message in a bottle”? It would be right up her alley. Likely, she’s seen it.

Steve Barrett

Seconded. Silverado is a fun western with a great cast including a very young Costner.

Jim H

I second the suggestion of Silverado featuring a very young Costner. For a Costner 8 years younger than Open Range, checkout Waterworld (1995). It is a very different action movie with an excellent villain. I too like Robert Duvall. I suggest Broken Trail where he plays a similar character to Open Range but a totally different story that draws from historical events.

Timothy Crandall

Yeah, these ladies like good movies.

Terry Yelmene

I was gonna comment the same thing. Beat me to it.

Mike Coughlin (mjc1389)

Btw, just joined the butter club. Keep up the great work!

Stephen Borden

If Costner/cowboy movies are still going, you have to watch Silverado. Young Costner, Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), Scott Glenn (Silence of the Lambs), Jeff Goldblum, Kevin Kline, and Brian Dennehy. Costner’s first full length film.

Stephen Borden

Great reaction, thanks Cassie and Carly 👍

Ian Hunter (NewbieInOttawa)

Cassie, I guess you didn't recognize Diego Luna from Rogue One and the Andor Disney show playing Button in this movie.

Salieri

Yay for happy endings! Please watch Sergeant York. A great B &W true story filled with all the things you both love about movies.

John G

I completely agree with Cassie reacting to The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. An absolute classic and a must watch.

Salieri

Ladies, I really enjoyed your reaction to this awesome movie. I vote for more movies like this one. Thanks for sharing.

Eric66F

I predict Cassie is gonna HATE "Gangs of New York". I predict she'll LOVE "Return to Me" and "Splash". She like "Crimson Tide" and whatever Bond she's watching. Now it's time to plug a great movie that is going to have be a Cassie's pick to be watched. "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre." It was made in 1940. Won 3 Oscar's. Stars Humphrey Bogart, Tim Holt, Walter Huston (best supporting actor Oscar), co-written and directed by John Huston (2 Oscars) son of Walter. Meta score by Critics of 98/100 and an IMDB users score of 8.2/10. A movie doesn't do much better than this. It has lines that have made into our lexicon like, "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!" It's on the same level as mega classics like The Grapes of Wrath, the Maltese Falcon, It's a Wonderful Life and Casa Blanca. It doesn't have romance but it has tremendous character studies, a great plot and a realism that was shocking for a 1949 audience. I've been asking for the Treasure of the Sierra Madre since I became a Paetron in November 2020. It came in 3rd place in a vote where the top 2 were watched. It's a really good movie. I promise.

Christopher Carr

It was filmed on the Stoney Indian Reserve in Alberta.

Gary Shaw

Oops, sorry!. 🤐 (Why do they put the pencil so close to the trash can?)

james flack

Yeah I was born in 1990 and prefer classic films that were all drama or noir or romance. Millennials aren't the problem, millennials not being paid enough to spend time with their kids and raise them correctly is the problem. So once again, boomers and pre-millennials are the problem

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Cassie, being a Kevin Costner fan you may enjoy the tv series Yellowstone. In my opinion he is very good in that show.

Stuart Guthrie Jr.

Bro Millennials are almost all over 30 years old now. Stop blaming the crappy teenagers and kids on us Millennials.

james flack

Oh Cassie, you really need to watch Lonesome Dove. Epic western miniseries with Robert Duval. Thanks for a great reaction. Don't forget about the Kevin Costner sports/rom-com movie, Tin Cup. 🙂

Bill Hayden

Two of my favorite westerns - Hang 'em High and High Plains Drifter, both starring Clint Eastwood! And of course The Unforgiven starring Audrey Hepburn!

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Great reaction ladies. Filmed in Alberta, beautiful country, but I think the two of you know that. Looking forward to some more Westerns to include ..... The Searchers !! Keep em coming, others and myself will watch them

Bill Maurer

Saw this movie years ago and do not remember much about it. Looking forward to the expurgated version.

Brian McGovern

I don't recall seeing any deer and/or antelope play in this film.

Christopher Smith

I absolutely love this movie, and rewatched it recently. Can't wait to see your reaction to it!
