Hey Merpeople,
Hope you all had a great weekend! Thanks for everyone coming to the LIVE!!! I always have so much fun talking to all of you! Then, I go over everything I said after and face palm a few times. I also am so exhausted every time. I got into bed at 9 and passed out, I haven't done that since the last LIVE. Thank. you x a million for all those who sent things, came, made me laugh and cry and for being the BEST!
I don't watch TV or movies very often off-channel anymore, but I do watch Ted Lasso, did anyone catch the Butch Cassidy bike moment in the last episode? Annnnddd then I started watching Shrinking, which I am LOVING! And there was a Gary Oldman Vampire joke in there and I GOT IT!! Harrison Ford is so good in it, he dresses like the silver fox he is and I am just impressed with him!
I love when the lineup has polar opposites next to each other like Splash and Gangs to New York haha. Should be a fun week! Carly is FINALLY back from her trip tomorrow so we can get back to BONDing ;)
I just posted a YAY or NEIGH Horse Poll, make sure to go VOTE!
Mando 5 and 6 just went up, 7 will be up this week, then we will do a LIVE watch-along for all patrons on 4/30 at 8pm!
Also Trivia Night! A week from today, I can't wait!! Hope you guys are doing finger clicking drills ;)
Also wanted to tell you at the end of May I'm planning a SEVENS week, kind of like our Robin Hoddie Week. I'll be watching Seven Samurai, then Magnificent Seven from the 60's then the Mag 7 from the OOghts!
Ok love you all Apollo 13 and back!
Cassie

Regarding the seven theme...I don't know if its prohibitive to play musicals, and perhaps it's not your cup of tea, and that's okay...I personally love musicals...but if you can watch Seven Brides for Seven brothers...I feel Cassie and Carly would enjoy that musical.
John Liebling
2023-04-30 08:27:40 +0000 UTCBut she could watch it with Carly. or Momma Popcorn. That's how we're getting "Inception". Carly has not watched it. The possibilities are endless. HA

2023-04-28 17:47:19 +0000 UTCHow in the world is that a spoiler? Was she somehow not aware that NYC has been a city for almost 400 years and was built up over the course of centuries lol? Thats literally like worrying about spoiling the fact that Winter comes every year. Grow up. It spoils absolutely nothing about the story, what so ever.

2023-04-26 19:45:29 +0000 UTCI predict Cassie and Carly will love Splash and have mixed feelings regarding Gangs of NY. Daniel Day Lewis acting in Gangs of NY is excellent. Cassie, have you ever seen or heard of My Left Foot? Daniel Day Lewis was the lead actor in Last of the Mohicans. Everyone is young in Splash. Tom Hanks was an unknown actor. Other than a few TV gigs.

2023-04-25 22:50:24 +0000 UTCShe would love The Last of the Mohicans. Its a love story. But yes, DDL needs to be watched more on this channel. All of his movies. He is without a doubt the most prolific actor of the last 50 years. Should also really look into The Bounty. True story, very accurate to history about a famous mutiny in the British Navy. Cast has DDL, Anthony Hopkins, Liam Neeson, Mel Gibson, Lawrence Olivier, etc. Its truly star studded. Highly, highly recommend
Astraeos
2023-04-25 22:40:42 +0000 UTCI mean you said it yourself. Scorsese is just on another level, so even one of his weaker films is still on a super high level. Also, I think for people who have been to NYC, this movie speaks to them differently. Definitely does to me. I get teary eyed during that ending montage that shows the city being built up. There's something about NYC, and this movie definitely taps into it.

2023-04-25 22:04:39 +0000 UTCThey actually offered it to Timothy first (and it was their third time as they previously did so after Connery left and in the middle of Moore's tenure), but he couldn't do it because of another project he was working on called BRENDA STARR. That's when they went to Pierce Brosnan and cast him, did costume fittings, took publicity photos and everything.. until at the last minute the REMINGTON STEEL producers exercised the option in their contract to bring him back for some television movies, so he ended up not being able to do it. In the interim, Dalton finished BRENDA STARR and his scheduled freed back up, so he was able step in after all.

2023-04-25 20:40:18 +0000 UTCIt's not just DDL. It's the incredibly authentic recreation of 1860's NYC, right down to the colloquial phrases. I loved the history that was presented, from Tammany Hall to the draft riots. To my knowledge, no other movie tackled those events.

2023-04-25 15:14:59 +0000 UTCFirst- "our dearest Cassie" is creepy as f and gives off serious stalker vibes. Second, she's not a child. Third, other than sloth and lust there isn't much that is disturbing in Se7en (and those two aren't that bad), it is just a good suspense thriller. Fourth, hasn't she made a "what's in the box?" joke on a live stream?

2023-04-25 08:55:00 +0000 UTCWhat is it that people love so much about Gangs of New York? I'm genuinely curious because I just don't get it, and I never will. It had all the elements to make a great film but ultimately just feels pretty flat. Could it just be DDL's performance that makes people think more highly of the film itself? Or maybe it's because Scorsese has set the bar so high that anything below his masterpieces feels like a letdown? To me, it's easily one of his weaker films.

2023-04-25 06:19:06 +0000 UTCGot to say, Three Amigos! (1986) should go with the “Seven” Films. It is a Parody of the Concept, not the films directly. Very Funny Classic Comedy. Elmer Bernstein even does the Music for Both Magnificent Seven (1960) and Three Amigos. And if you think the Three is too small a number to join in with the Sevens… well then, Just make sure you remember what a Plethora is, because those Darn Amigos, they sure can Dart around and Weave in and out, if you Gather my Meaning.

Stick Figure Studios
2023-04-25 04:21:28 +0000 UTCGangs of NY is absolutely crazy. Like The Departed, I think it’s overindulgent and excessive - 9/11 happened while the movie was shooting and I think it knocked Marty off his game. He felt the need to shoehorn some additional thematic resonance into a movie that already was not sure what it was trying to say. That said, I’ll watch it every time for Daniel Day-Lewis’s performance, probably his best and maybe one of the greatest performances in cinema history. Cameron Diaz though? No idea what she was doing there. Cracked her head on the ceiling of her potential pretty hard.

2023-04-25 03:16:52 +0000 UTCLooking forward to Licence to Kill. I think this movie has the most appearances by the original Q than any other Bond movie and while he has a history of being anoid by Bond for always destroying his stuff, here he shows his loyalty to Bond when the chips are down. Robert Davi plays a good Bond villian and a very young Benicio Del Toro really brings on the scary henchman thing.

2023-04-25 01:45:47 +0000 UTCI know it's a bit outside Cassie's usual fare [OK, maybe a LOT outside...], but here's a vote that Sevens Week should include the legendary film "The Seventh Seal", about a medieval knight who literally plays chess to the death, against Death himself. "The Seventh Seal is considered a classic of world cinema, as well as one of the greatest movies of all time. It established Bergman as a world-renowned director, containing scenes which have become iconic through homages, critical analysis, and parodies." 2023-04-25 00:29:02 +0000 UTCSome great things to come I see. The "Sevens week" is a terrific idea. All three of those different versions of the same story are good and you even get to squeeze two more westerns out of the experience (the original MAGNIFICENT SEVEN being one of my all-time favorites). You will also expand your foreign film repertoire with a masterpiece made by the man who is arguably the greatest Japanese director who ever lived (and was as huge influence on George Lucas when he did Star Wars): Akira Kurosawa. SPLASH is a wonderful movie that I watched constantly as a child. It was actually the first Touchstone Film. I knew who Tom Hanks was from the TV show BOSOM BUDDIES, but it was my introduction to Daryl Hannah, John Candy, Eugene Levy and Ron Howard's directing. You will love it. You are also doing ANOTHER Martin Scorsese film? (Having now seen SHUTTER ISLAND, GOODFELLAS and THE DEPARTED). Good for you. GANGS OF NY is an excellent movie. Leo DiCaprio gives his usual strong performance, but it's the legendary Daniel Day-Lewis (my pick for our greatest living actor) who walks off with that film singlehandedly. He creates in Bill the Butcher one of the most powerful, frightening and charismatic characters in recent movie history. I can't wait to see this reaction. But as always, what I am most eager for (and this time nervous about) is the Bond film. This time it's Dalton's second entry LICENCE TO KILL, the last Bond movie before legal issues kept the series in limbo for 6 years (the longest gap between movies in the franchise's history). You should be warned: it's a very polarizing Bond film with people either loving it or hating it. I love it, but I get why people don't. It will be intense. It's easily the darkest and most violent Bond film to date. It was the first one to get a PG-13 rating (al the previous ones were PG) and it earns it with some extreme story beats and, without spoiling anything, rather gruesome deaths. I am very curious to see what you think of it. Looking forward to Trivia night. As always, Keep up the good work. :-)
