Comments

Indeed.

John Casamassa

iT SEEMS YOUR JOY WAS PREMATURE. i THINK SON

BRT

I first ran across the channel in October 2021. The movie being reacted to was Casablanca and there were a few others in the offing. She was seeing others like Band of Brothers and others that were very appealing to me. I haven't been that interested in the ones that are current and can be seen on their own channel. Early on Patreon members could send a CD and it would be reacted to. I suspect that a lot of the older films were contributed by the higher tiered members. That was an attractive benefit. But pretty soon the membership became so large that Cassie couldn't physically keep up with the incoming contributions. This summer I will be retiring and moving to a fixed income and when my membership expires in November that'll be all for PIB except for YouTube. My ability to push for The Treasure of the Sierra Madre will be gone and I'll watch the ones I like.

Christopher Carr

The demographics of this medium skews heavily towards younger people. And unfortunately, most don't care or are interested in anything that isn't recent or trending. Cassie herself has said prior to starting the channel she hadn't watched a movie older than the 90s. With few exceptions, the same can be said for many, many reactor channels.

Miles E Coburn

I don't think the average person in the PIB community has much awareness of some really great movies in the 50s and 40s. So much of those movies have become part of the lexicon of our culture. "We don't need no stinking..." just fill in the last word for your situation. That came from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre as well as other lines. The Searchers gets only 9%!? It is routinely rated as the best Western ever made! It gets 9%. If we can't do better than this the group is disappointing. Selection of a movie CANNOT be based on a popularity poll only. The giants on which the film industry is built will become vague memories. In terms beginning the group had promise but now it's mainly mini series and movies that late 80s and after.

Christopher Carr

I don't mean anything antagonistic by that; I like the movie, I just like playing with words and long ago I changed the name to amuse myself.

Jim Williams

Magnanimous Seven šŸ˜†šŸ˜†

Dazman

uhm... no. They're among the best, but not the best. She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, The Searchers, Shane... The Tin Star was as good as was High Noon, as was The Gunfighter. My favorite western is probably still "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon". If she's going to react to "High Noon", she should make it a double-feature and also react to "Outland" the same day. I always liked Sean Connery better than Gary Cooper, anyway.

Jim Williams

I'm okay with the ORIGINAL Magnanimous Seven winning the poll, but I would have voted for The Searchers, which I like a lot better. Of course, I prefer politically incorrect to politically correct movies, so...

Jim Williams

blech. I hated McClintock, I hated Chisum. Two of Wayne's worst movies, IMO.

Jim Williams

Centennial would be such an awesome series for you to watch. Centennial is a real city in Colorado, but the story is fictional; an adaptation from a series of books.

Robert Nelson

It was the Rain.

Larry Darrell

I'm all for a western poll every three or four months, perhaps 'Ambush' 'Westward the Women' 'Red River' 'Cat Ballou' 'Hondo' 'Shane' 'High Noon' 'How the West was Won',might all make it on future polls..or picks!ā™”

Celeste McAllister

Cassie has a copy of Red River in her collection,I sent it to her last November..

Celeste McAllister

I'm stoked that Magnificent Seven won!!! They were all good choices, though.

John Casamassa

| disappointed that neither poll contains High Noon Or Shanghai Noon, either... šŸ˜‰

barnabas

Good point. High Noon and Liberty Valance are the two best Westerns made

Doug Cook

For me, TMS has not dated well, I hope Cassie will watch Open Range also.

Joe

Open Range is a modern classic, hope Cassie will watch it anyway. TMS is a fine movie, but typical Hollywood type Western of the time, and dated IMO.

Joe

Switched my vote to The Magnificent Seven as TQATD clearly isn't going to win.

Richard Maurer

disappointed that neither poll contains High Noon. Great movie, won 4 Academy Awards and among the first movies to be picked by the LIbrary of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry. Oh well, maybe next time. These are all good movies too though :)

Mike Carey

Open Range!!!

Celeste McAllister

Probably the best acting by the Duke, outside of True Grit.

JW

Open Range is an under appreciated film. A real gem. My second pick would be Pale Rider.

Brian Lowery

Agree 100% - Open Range is such a great UNDER-STATED story.

Terdell Ferguson

Some of us like Robert Mitchum more than John Wayne. Although I think this is his best film before the predictable persona and catch phrases. lol

Nolan Ryan

This is a shame, because popcorn actually voted for open range.

Michael Lynch

Open Range is a fantastic movie and the love story between Kevin Costner, and Annette Benning has a unique realness to it for the time period and their age.

Clifton Owens

McLintock! its free on youtube with some favorites from A Quite Man* John wayne classic starring his son and Muareen O'Hara. Love what you do, Grand thanks to You and Carly!

Cojuancidence

Two great suggestions. Red River was a true step forward for Wayne as an actor, and Clift was excellent, too.

Terry Wood

Searchers is the greatest Western ever made and you will love Open Range, but The Magnificent Seven is classic and lots of fun so I chose Magnifcent 7. I think you and Carly would enjoy it the most of all of these.

Timothy Williams

Ahhh. I see

nick bell

This is just the preliminaries where the top two from each poll join in to a Final Four of Westerns. Then things will get interesting.

Mike LL

Here is a shoutout to a couple of other Westerns that are poll worthy. Red River (1948) with John Wayne, Montgomery Clift, and the ever good looking Walter Brennan. Destry Rides Again (1939) with James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich (this is who Madeline Kahn was imitating in Blazing Saddles) about a lawman who won't wear a gun.

Mike LL

Cmon everyone. Make it a tie so she has to watch both

nick bell

@Jon- ' ...YouTube comments, so always be sure to leave your ideas there' No. That is why I pay to be here.

Mike Lemon

'There will be more, so don't worry if you're favorite isn't one of these!' There are only 10 spots, not every movie ever made can fit on that list.

Mike Lemon

1. how about Little Big Man, Dustin Hoffman, 2. Tom Hanks in News of the World, 3. 100 rifles, Raquel Welch, 4. Red Sun, Charles Bronson, 5. a million ways to die in the west, Seth MacFarlane, 6. Wyat Earp, Keven Costner, 7. 2 Mules for Sister Sara, Clint Eastwood. a few really good westerns not on the list.

zynjams

Amen. Possibly the best western ever made imo. Its at least in the top 3

Rodger Johnson

@ Jason - well said.

Richard Maurer

As far as the type of story Cassie and Carly would love, definitely Open Range. Not even close. They would absolutely love that one. Plus they're in love with Kevin Costner.

JSharp

That is not necessarily a good reason to vote for it.

Richard Maurer

I agree with you but I am always trying to get any reactors to do The Outlaw Josey Wales. So many great one liners.

Captain Caveman

How is The Searchers not winning? Cassie has yet to touch any classic westerns and that would be a great place to start. (Can’t do that without John Wayne.

Mr Trick

Definitely Magnificent Seven.

TheCaptain359

My top 5 Westerns Magnificent Seven 1960 True Grit The Good, The Bad and The Ugly 3:10 to Yuma 2007 Winchester 73 Most Westerns after 1990 are very meh.

Joseph Rardin

The Big Trail is good as well.

Joseph Rardin

What!? Were you born after 1989? šŸ¤”šŸ˜„

Joseph Rardin

I've been patiently waiting for her to watch Magnificent Seven for a year now.

Joseph Rardin

Good question.

Jason Chirevas

No, it’s not. We’re not here to service Cassie any more than she’s here to service us. Cassie has said from the outset PIB is about expanding her horizons. I wouldn’t even make the argument OPEN RANGE won’t do that, but the ā€œvote for what Cassie will like bestā€ philosophy is not why we’re all here. It’s also, frankly, boring and a little insulting to Cassie, as it’s led, in part, to a lot of banal, milquetoast choices here.

Jason Chirevas

Where’s Once Upon a Time in the West?

Rosario Cicero

The Searchers is, quite simply, the best Western ever made.

Brian O'Grady

After Good Morning Vietnam, Red River (1948) or Rio Bravo (1959) would’ve been cool to watch. For Walter Brennan… you know.

Larry Darrell

I agree as well.

David Thibodeau

I guess she'll have to come back to Shane. ;-)

Stick Figure Studios

Well.... If you vote for open range, and it wins, That means magnificent seven would come in second behind it and maybe she'd watch both! šŸ˜šŸ˜„

'Pappy' Johnston

Nonsense.

Jason Chirevas

Very emotional movie; seeing how they treated such a sensitive topic in the 50s was shocking both in how raw it was but also how filtered.

alex

Open Range is soooo good. Plus it will open the door to Star Wars Andor as Diego Luna, who plays Button in Open Range, also plays Cassius Andor and is such a great actor. And Cassie, you're going to have to decide and just pick one (or have a poll of just his movies) if you ever want to watch a John Wayne movie and experience the GOAT. Don't see his movies ever winning internet polls. We lost him way too long ago and his legend is sadly fading.

David Collins

The Searchers is the best film of the bunch by far, but I think it's a little bit too emotional for her to watch.

alex

Pale Rider is my choice as I always liked the original The 7 Samurai more than The Magnificent 7. But you can't go wrong with Open Range either.

Adino1

I switched my vote to Open Range from... The Quick and The Dead (many good choices here)

Mannygogou

The remake belongs on the of pile of unnecessary remakes that plague hollywood these days.

Richard Maurer

Wyatt Earp came out around the same time as Tombstone. A lot more background into Wyatt. Stars Kevin Costner, Gene Hackman, and Dennis Quaid as Doc Holiday. You should really watch it, even if you do not do a reaction to it.

Robert Nelson

It's hard to take you seriously but I'm trying.

Richard Maurer

I wonder if Cassie will ever watch the notorious western, Heaven's Gate (1980)? A film so notorious because it cost so much to make, bombed so badly at the box office that it financially ruined the studio that backed it. The very same studio that made the Rocky and James Bond films, United Artists.

JONATHAN REDFERN WILLIAMS

AND, its got Alan Ritchson in case anyone else thinks that Cassie and Carly would absolutely love the Jack Reacher series.

Uncle Phoenix

Has anyone else noticed that Popcorn hasn’t watched ā€œThe Wedding Ringerā€, and it’s not available on the Popcorn Request page. :-(

Uncle Phoenix

Magnificent Seven, please. It has the same director (John Sturges) as The Great Escape. He should be better known as one of the great directors. The Searchers is great, and you should eventually see that, too.

Tom Holman

Fair enough. I guess it is your unofficial trilogy after all. Your prerogative to decide what goes in it.

Stick Figure Studios

Thanks for that!

Richard Bourne

There were four movies in the original series. Return of the Seven (1966) only Yul Brynner returns in the first sequel. Guns of the Magnificent Seven (1969) George Kennedy is recast in the Yul Brynner role! The Magnificent Seven Ride! (1972) whole new cast starring Van Cleef. Remake of the original was 2016.

Mike LL

The original, the American remake, then the parody. It's the complete halflife of a cinematic trope. The newer Magnificent 7 didn't add anything new to the conversation. Also I think Three Amigos is a much better film.

Neill Shaughness

I didn't think it was that bad. I enjoyed it myself. Definitely the weakest of those three, but still doesn't it feel like a more fitting final entry in that trilogy than THREE AMIGOS?

Stick Figure Studios

This is true! Amazing absence of dust!

Mike LL

I'm not sure about the way you put that, but I'm on your side. Robby R. Open Range might not be the best movie, but it would be the movie that Cassie (and Carly!) would like the best! Isn't that what this should be all about?

Mike LL

I really did think that when I saw Open Range in the movie theater. "Man, those gunshots are LOUD!" Thunder, too!

Mike LL

That's fair, I just usually figure most people see that as kids, but it's definitely a strong part of the tradition.

Neill Shaughness

Forgot about A Bug’s Life.

Larry Darrell

I don't recommend the new Magnificent 7 in any capacity

Neill Shaughness

I'm voting for it as well. I liked OPEN RANGE and wouldn't be too upset if it won, but I think Cassie needs to watch more classic westerns.

Stick Figure Studios

How old are you Casey? I bet you prefer the remake.šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø It will win the poll 🄳

John Cranberry

I don't think so. Not even close really. Little Bill was not an outright villain. He was more complex than that. Yes, he was an authoritarian, but he had his own personal moral code and he really felt that he was doing the right thing. He was just trying to keep law and order in his town but he did it ineffectively and his failure resulted in havoc. Herod didn't care about law or order or any kind of morality. Right or wrong meant nothing to him. He was on a power trip and he reveled in the chaos he created. He was an outright villain with no redeeming qualities at all. You could hardly find two antagonists played by the same actor who are more dissimilar.

Stick Figure Studios

Agree 10000 %

Bill Maurer

Open Range was filmed in Alberta, Canada as well

Bill Maurer

Open Range is the best of these. I would also add the remake of The Magnificent Seven with Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt is superior to the original. I was shocked when my dad told me he thought that, and after contemplating on it for a while, I think I agree.

Terdell Ferguson

I would think the recent MAGNIFICENT SEVEN remake would be the third entry in the trilogy.

Stick Figure Studios

The Searchers is a top 10 film of all time, not just Westerns. John Ford directs and John Wayne stars. The film has a subtle plot point that’s obvious but so many miss. It’s a commentary on racism disguised as a Western revenge film. One of Wayne’s best performances. John Ford also directed The Quiet Man.

Terry Wood

Already did. I figured Cassie would like Open Range the best.

Rick Williams

The Searchers and Magnificent 7 are great classics.

Rick Williams

All good movies. Open Range has a romance that Cassie and Carly would like.

Rick Williams

There is a little know 1972 movie "The Magnificent Seven Ride!" starring Lee Van Cleef. Not a big budget movie, but still pretty good and follows the story of "The Magnificent Seven" for the most part with a few changes.

Richard Bourne

It's hard to take a movie as unexceptional as QatD seriously.

Dave Sees Movies

Cassie and Carly loved Tombstone. They'll love another comic book western. The Quick and The Dead.

G

Surprised to see The Magnificent 7 pull ahead of Open Range. If it's close near the end I may change my vote from QatD to Magnificent 7.

Richard Maurer

I think I'm on the wrong spaceship.....

Jon Freezin-Rain

QatD, like all Raimi's movies, isn't meant to be taken all that seriously, certainly not as seriously as you people are taking it. It's meant to be a bunch of cool gunfights with a little bit of story behind them - which is exactly what it is. . Your last name is pretty cool too, Bill.

Richard Maurer

Open Range has Kevin Costner, beautiful NON DUSTY cinematography, and a love story built in ta' boot! So vote OPEN RANGE for Cassie.

'Pappy' Johnston

My only regret is that SILVERADO is not on either list.

Steven Perez

Great point, not so sure about Three Amigos. But Magnificent 7 is straight out of Seven Samurai

Bill Maurer

Good movie, doesn't come close to The Searchers or even Magnificent 7.

Bill Maurer

In this poll, Wayne has 4 out of 20 of the Top Westerns and you can make a case for adding El Dorado, Man who Shot Liberty Valance and True Grit https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/best-western-movies-cowboys-b2242813.html

Bill Maurer

I strongly recommend seeing Seven Samurai before Magnificent 7. I usually advise people to treat Seven Samurai, The Magnificent 7, and finally The Three Amigos as a trilogy

Neill Shaughness

I think what we learned in the Roger Moore Poll, is that there is a Silent Majority.

Larry Darrell

If you don't vote Open Range you are wrong....

Robby R

I'd say Robin Hood is the best Kevin Costner movie but that's an Alan Rickman movie that Kevin Costner is in! ;) :D

Hondo the Cat

Worst movie on this list by leaps and bounds

thomas king

I love "Silverado." Loooooove it. But I'm not sure it's a good movie.

Dave Sees Movies

What's to get? It post-AoD and pre-Spider-Man when Raimi was figuring out what to do and more or less getting nothing right, aside from maybe "A Simple Plan." "The Quick and the Dead" has a limp screenplay and all Raimi's directorial flourishes just make the limp stuff between action set-ups stand out. Barf.

Dave Sees Movies

Better than all but one.

gary crow

Not surprisingly, the two best in that group are winning right now. For future polls, let me recommend Big Jake -- my favorite John Wayne western, and The Wild Bunch -- one of the best ever.

Bruce C Snell

Best Western ever made and one of the greatest films of all time. I agree

Bill Maurer

Shane is a great movie. Stood the test of time and is still awesome to watch.

Bill Maurer

Best Western ever made and one of the greatest movies of all time. It only went on to inspire the likes of Spielberg and Scorsese. But, what do they know

Bill Maurer

My favorite movie in this lot (not the best) is "Pale Rider," but as it has no legit shot at winning, gotta go with the western with the loudest SFX ever: "Open Range."

Dave Sees Movies

Bingo !!! It's not a real Western, it's what the 1990's thought a Western should be. If it wasn't for a young Leo or Russel Crowe (before they made it big), no one would have heard of this movie

Bill Maurer

Next western poll, I have a suggestion. Two Mules for Sister Sara Clint Eastwood and Shirley Maclaine. I think it's a western the girls will like.

Powers209

Clint Eastwood's best Western and possibly best movie he ever was in.

Bill Maurer

I love Sam Raimi: Evil Dead series, Spiderman 1 and 2 (not so much 3), A Simple Plan and Oz. QatD is just not that good a movie, my opinion, and a bad western. It is a 1990's version of a Western should be. Just my two cents. Nice last name.

Bill Maurer

I don't know how you got that impression at all... But I guess we all see different aspects. Which is fine! I saw they really liked it...

Jon Johns

So many of these films came from YouTube comments, so always be sure to leave your ideas there, and also up vote your choices on the suggestions app! There are not a lot of westerns in the top 25 there.

Jon Johns

My name is 'Matthew Shane'. I was named after Alan Ladd's 'Shane' and James Arness' 'Matt Dillion'. I agree, Cassie should watch Me!

Matthew S Graham

Open Range is such a great movie. A little slow early on, but the climax is worth the ride! Plus I know you girls LOVE Kevin Costner ;)

Paul Mellette

All of the above are winners..

Celeste McAllister

All the directors of above films were inspired by 'The Searchers', starring the #1 box office draw for more than 40 years John Wayne and it's legendary director John Ford...This time we will get a real western not a reboot of a 1960's TV series..

Celeste McAllister

This was a tough choice for me. Both The Searchers and The Magnificent Seven are so iconic and classic but they both have a lot of backstory to learn. I voted for Open Range this time.

Roger Banks

Finally Open Range!!! fingers crossed

LuMarq

Open range in my opinion is Kevin Costner best movie

Scott Earhart

Open range is sooo good

Craig G

Josey wales is better than all these imo! And I grew up on westerns

Jayson Phillips

Cassie will probably love Open Range. But all are good choices

nick bell

No "Shane"??? Cassie needs to watch "Shane", IMO.

Art of Free Speech

I've always thought it was overrated too

Walter

Appaloosa 2008. It has Vigo Mortensen (Aragorn) and Ed Harris (General Hummel- The Rock)

Nathan Swapp

Lonesome Dove would be a great reaction. Mini series, but iconic.

Tinker

Me bring a Clint Eastwood fan I will have to go with Pale Rider

Stuart Guthrie Jr.

I too would like to see that but alas it probably will not happen.

Collar City Guy

Fair! I love both for different reasons, but I think Open Range should be first...

Chris Davis

She's seen the remake of True Grit according to her post above.

Robin Craft

It was a tough decision between Open Range and The Quick and the Dead.

Jessie Fenton

Once Upon a Time in the West, Charles Bronson, 1968, the greatest western ever (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064116/)

Lana Gorgeous

With the greatest of respect, True Grit (remake) is one of the grimmest Westerns ever made. I've watched enough of Cassie's reactions to know that some of the darker movies aren't really to her taste but she watches them for us anyway. True Grit is just... on another level. Can we at least pair it up with Paint Your Wagon to restore her mood afterwards?

Hondo the Cat

Not even..The original Magnificent 7 was terrible. Typical Cheesy 1960 Film with terrible acting, sound and cinematography.

Casey Nicholson

Personally, The Quick and the Dead would be my last pick on this poll - cheesy, unrealistic plot, and terrible acting - I don't know how anyone could think it even deserves to be on the poll,... it's flashy and violent and totally unrealistic as a western. It mocks the historical west.

ENC SW DV Rush

Probably because most younger people have never seen or heard of it before,...

ENC SW DV Rush

Second verse, same as the first. One of the best movies ever made is buried by lesser choices, including a 90s cartoon and A Movie From The 2000s, always a popular favorite here.

Jason Chirevas

Either of the Magnificent Sevens pale in comparison to the original film on which they were based, Akira Kurosawa's masterful "Seven Samurai," which is universally regarded as one of the greatest films in all cinema history. For some reasons films in foreign languages are rarely covered by youtube reactors. I suppose it's because American audiences (and I suspect the vast majority of reactors' viewers are American) mostly don't watch foreign films. I put it down to our generally insular culture.

Elliot Nesterman

The magnificent 7 has to win this. Has everything and all the classic old school stars. Seven Samurai for the win!

rakesh

Big vote here for Open Range. The other contender is a western remake of a Japanese samurai film that I'm one of the few who think is overrated. But Open Range you'll love.

Robert Jewell

Young Kevin Costner. Me too.

Uncle Phoenix

How is the Searchers not doing better on this poll?

Mike Melfa

Oh come on guys, you know damn well she’s going to like open range more than the original magnificent seven.

Michael Lynch

Hands down, the best reaction of all these movies would be Open Range. Some of the other movies might even be better MOVIES, but Cassie and Carly would both LOVE Open Range. I have to vote the best REACTION over the best MOVIE.

Mike LL

There are so many posts in favor of Open Range. It has my vote. I don't understand why it is not ahead since it has the most posts in favor of it.

Mike LL

Pale Rider another amazing one with a simple yet great story!

Chad Bailey

You spoke too soon, before Mag 7 pulled ahead. Mag 7 is a fine movie and Western, Open Range would be so much better as a reaction vehicle for Cassie and Carly. They both would LOVE Open Range.

Mike LL

Right on!

Mike LL

It is the Cassie and Carly movie of these two polls. They both would love it and it would be a very entertaining reaction.

Mike LL

OPEN RANGE is one of my all-time favorite movies. Action, romance, and one of the best showdowns in Western cinematic history. I predict that you and Carly would love it.

Steven Perez

Haha, I've seen one of these, heard of two.

YodatheHobbit

Fair. I didn’t want to go with the other end of the spectrum, like ā€œSupport Your Local Gunslingerā€ or ā€œPaint Your Wagonā€, but I wasn’t sure how far to go. Cassie is definitely putting on her big girl pants for this channel, sorry if I jumped the gun though. The old Clint Eastwood stuff (High Plains Drifter, Fistfull of Dollars, etc) can also be intense. Another seriously good Western from the 70’s is ā€œLittle Big Manā€ (Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway, Chief Dan George, Richard Mulligan). It walks that delicate balance between comedy and tragedy without screwing up either.

Gary Trousdale

The original Magnificent Seven was my Dad's favorite. It is a great movie!

Dan Waller

Pale Rider is a DL western classic

warcrimes

If you do the original Magnificent Seven make sure you do the new version too some time. Denzel and Chris Pratt are awesome in it. Everyone is. Too many people to name.

Jonny Kerr (JK)

I think these are great choices. I think you will love Open Range, there is a love story there. :)

Wendy

dang, I was hoping Silverado would be on the list.

Walter

The Magnificent Seven should be a shoe in. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

John Cranberry

Pleased to see The Magnificent Seven is catching up. It may have a chance at winning the championship after all. šŸ™‚

GƔbor Ɓrki

Definitely seems to be a recency bias in thesee polls given that the two westerns leading were made post-2000. I'm not opposed to OPEN RANGE winning. It's a good flick, but I'm going with the original MAGNIFICENT SEVEN.

Stick Figure Studios

Open Range gets my vote

Robert da Spruce

Wauw, five amazing westerns - "The Quick And The Dead" is a huge personal favorite - Sam Raimis cool style of directing combined with a stellar cast and fantastic music. But my pick is "The Magnificent Seven" - the 60s version is a impressive ensemble piece of wonderful actors and the story is just as good. It was inspirered by the japanese movie "The Seven Samurai" by Akira Kurosawa...

Jens Kristensen

Cassie made a comment that she forgot to put it on the poll. She said it would be on the next one.

David Freese

Dark—The Wild Bunch

Jeff Young

Easy to guess the winner here. People have been requesting it since Cassie started the channel.

Bill W

Its newer than Mag 7 and Searchers.

Bill W

Basically the same character as Unforgiven.

Bill W

Yes that’s another reason Cassie might love/hate Hostiles. I was suprised with Unforgiven to its good but as someone new maybe start with the spaghetti Westerns of the 50s/60s even I found Unforgiven a bit dark. It’s a great film but like you said she’s new to the Western genre.

Scb333

Exactly. If she really does appreciate Westerns she’ll love it but for now yes a bit too intense for her lol.

Scb333

People have to remember WHO they are recommending a film to. The fact that so many were recommending "Unforgiven" to someone who had never seen a Western movie and had no grounding in the history or genre as her FIRST FILM shows that people only think about what THEY like, not what is appropriate or enjoyable to see someone react to.

Sean Novack

Agreed. Hostiles is like Unforgiven in the same way as it should be watched much, much further down the list of Westerns. Cassie is still in the 101 Class, and Hostiles is a little too Advanced.

Larry Darrell

The Western That Saved The Western Genre in Hollywood!

Sean Novack

High Plains Drifter - next poll please.

Richard Maurer

Oh yeah, it was a "reaction" all right! LOL

Sean Novack

Wrong, some people just don't get Sam Raimi, sadly.

Richard Maurer

wow that's a good list!

Mannygogou

Hostiles is awesome but maybe a bit dark for Cassie haha.

Scb333

yes, there's a reaction to unforgiven already on the channel :)

Andrew Rose

You could easily compile a list of all time great westerns that was solely comprised of John Wayne movies.

Just Plain Bob

Did they already do ā€œUnforgivenā€? ā€œHostilesā€ is pretty awesome as well.

Gary Trousdale

Pale Rider’s great guess it’s a bit too old though.

Scb333

Unfortunately the Quick and the dead doesn't look like it has much of a chance.

Richard Maurer

Shane really needs to be on one of these western polls in the future. I'm not a big fan of the older westerns but Shane is one that is really great.

Richard Maurer

Really? I got the impression they really enjoyed it.

Richard Maurer

People generally be dissing on "The Quick & The Dead", but for me, Hackman is just so over the top in that film, it's a guilty pleasure.

Joe

Magnificent Seven has the best theme next to Star Wars. Let's hope it can over come Open Range šŸ¤ž

Todzilla

I’m so happy Open Range is winning lol that’s like my favorite western movie

Gilbert Gonzalez

Sure wished True Grit was on this list

zynjams

You should recognize the young actor in open range is also in Star Wars rogue one

zynjams

You’re joking right?

zynjams

I got the impression that they didn't like Tombstone all that much. Guess I was wrong. Open Range has to be the winner. Love the interaction between Cosner and Duvall.

Al Swearengen

Open range has the best gun fight ever

zynjams

Interesting, I was just thinking about Open Range and thinking that it would be a great one for Cassie to view. One of Kevin Costner's best performances, and you can't go wrong with Robert Duvall or Annette Benning.

Jim Finley

The biggest problem with both polls is that there are so many fantastic westerns that it’s impossible to compile a reasonably sized list, or even two or three, that won’t inevitably leave off movies that deserve to be included.

Just Plain Bob

Open Range is a masterpiece.

Jay Robert

1939 Stagecoach

Steve Colletti

The newer magnificent 7 was great to star studded cast

phillip tarkington

I've been recommending quick and the Dead for like a year now, glad to see it on the list. Worth a watch at some point even if it don't win. Plus it's one of Leonardo Dicaprio first appearances in a movie. Very early days of his acting career.

Open Range, hells to the yeah!

Jacob Colson

My hope is that Open Range and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is close enough to influence Cassie to watch both. I do have love for The Searchers and Clint is right there in my all-time favorite actors.

Shawn Kildal

Shame sons of Katie elder isn't on here. One of my favorite Wayne movies. A lesser known but fun one "support your local sherrif" would be one i think she'd like.

Bubba Fett

The Duke was The King of westerns and The Searchers was his magnum opus.

Just Plain Bob

All the choices are great. I do wish High Noon was on the list though.

Mike Gallagher

But Open Range has Kevin Costner

Evan Lewis

Looks like no love for The Duke, The Searchers is one of the all time great westerns and John Wayne at his best

Hankster

There's no wrong choices here, really. Add also to the eventual list, Outlaw Josey Wales and Jeremiah Johnson, which are top notch. and though I love Tombstone to pieces, Lonesome Dove is my #1 western recommendation.

Godzilla Jones

Its an insult that The Quick and the Dead is on this list. One of the worst Westerns ever.

thomas king

As of right now, Clint Eastwood/Outlaw Josey Wales/Pale Rider is only tracking at 12%/10% respectively. What in the heck is wrong with you people?

Gary David Holbrook

I will admit that, although I like all the movies listed in both polls, I’m disappointed that Silverado wasn’t included. One of the all time great westerns.

Just Plain Bob

Would love for the ladies to watch Magnificent 7.

David Freese

Warning: it’s got a love story. I know how you hate those. šŸ˜‚

"Quick and the crappy film"

Bill Maurer

Silverado

While I really like the Quick and the Dead, Open Range is just fantastic and easily the best on that poll

T.K.

thats my vote!

Cassie

Watched The Quick and The Dead so many times as a kid. I hope it wins

WeekendWarrior88

"The Searchers" !!!

Bill Maurer

Those of us that have been around awhile know that Cass and Carly would love the Quick and the Dead the most on this list, even if it isn't the best movie.

Cactus Tony

Kevin Costner and Robert Duvall are fantastic in Open Range.
