It Could Happen to You (1994) - Full Reaction

Well this was the cutest little feel good-want-to-be-better-believe-in-love-and-decency-and-good-people kind of movie! It actually brought up some really great discussions for Carly and I, and really had made me feel lighter and more giving since we watched it! Hope you enjoy!

It Could Happen to You (1994) - Full Reaction

Comments

Yep, I owned this dvd.

Korny

Hahaha that’s what happens when you type too fast! 😂 Thanks for pointing it out, I didn’t even notice!

China Andronicus

"PIP"? Popcorn in paradise

SnabbKassa

I'm late to the party watching this one. I was having an off-night, which is generally when I turn to PiP to lift my spirits, and man was this the perfect film! I loved Carly referencing Moonstruck during the intro. That's another amazing Nic Cage performance and wonderful film in general. Highly recommend.

China Andronicus

It had been so long since I watched It Could Happen to You. And during this reaction I realized how much the movie reminds me of 1940’s Lucky Partners (which I recommend) with Ronald Colman and Ginger Rogers.

Dennis Shogren

You and Carly's reaction to this was so sweet and made me smile so big! I knew this was your type of movie. It should inspire everyone! Thank you again!

TT

Even though my ears were bleeding every time I heard Rosie Perez’s voice, I enjoyed this movie, a lot. Bridget Fonda was such an underrated actress and I think everyone would fall in love with her here.

Joe M

I watched until after the credits and there wasn't anything more. If you mean the end of the movie, I saw at the end that they kept their jobs and everything. I only mentioned that I wouldn't quit mine because Cassie and Carly were talking about not doing so.

Raven Dark

If you watch the credits till the end it tells you what happened to Robert Cunningham and the waitress.

Gregory L Costello

I had never seen this movie, but always wanted to. It was wonderful to watch it with you two. What a great, feel good reaction. This is probably going to sound corny, but I love my job, so I wouldn't quit, no matter how much money I had. If I won a lottery, I would use it to do my job better. Which in turn, helps others, but in a way that wouldn't draw attention or ruin my private life. We can all dream. :D

Raven Dark

I loved watched this reaction 🥰 than watching the Super Bowl.

Larry

Finally took the dive and became a Patron because I wanted to see the full reaction to this movie. It's one of my all time favourites. We should all aspire to be as kind and generous and Charlie & Yvonne.

Luke Godfrey

Hey! Not sure if you know this was, generally, based on a true story. The true story wasnt a romance, but either way this never fails to hit my heart

Hannah Mather

hey there, it is illegal for her to show the movie, because it does not belong to her. you will need to buy or rent or somehow get your own legal copy and play them at the same time

Hannah Mather

She can't just show the movie, as that would break copyright laws and her channel could be jeopardy. It's addressed in the FAQ post on the top of the page. All reactors have to obscure the movie. (And the ones that didn't found out the hard way that they'd messed up.)

WastedPo

Thanks for watching this. It's honestly one of my favorite movies of all time. I remember Roger Ebert even compared it favorably to a Frank Capra movie. To the people who are categorically dismissing it, you're really missing out on a gem.

WastedPo

why cant we watch it with you

albert joseph88173

why is the movie obsqured

albert joseph88173

SO CUTE! I had forgotten how this ended (I knew they both lost the money but I forgot the rest) and it was so nice to discover the ending again with both of you. Bridget Fonda was in a ton of movies at the time, including the very famous "Single White Female". She retired early, and is now 58, an looks WAY different. (Google it, but beware.)

Super Powered Design (Jim)

Same and I’m a chick lol

brooke atkins

Now that you’ve seen this one, you should watch Moonstruck. It’s another rom com with Nic Cage-this time with Cher. Moonstruck got nominated for and won some Oscars (including one for Cher)and it is one of the best rom coms ever made. It is just so well written, well acted, well made-it’s fabulous.

Tinkerbell

Chick flick, pass.

Richard Bourne

Glad you picked this one to watch with Carly as I couldn’t wait to see your faces at the end as it’s got as you’ve said a great feel good ending. Also such a nice story about paying for that woman’s shopping and the guy coming out to you in the car park. I always try and be a nice person as my Mom always told me it costs nothing and always treat people the way you want to be treated yourself.

Dean Holt

Wow, I didn't recognise Ann Dowd at first. I always think of her as the creepy 'friend' in Hereditary

Odd Thomas

For more lighter Cage fare I'd recommend Matchstick Men & City of Angels. As for Bridget Fonda, you gotta love Lake Placid

Odd Thomas

I noticed your annoyance at the omission of the mention of Bridget's somewhat famous father and her mega famous grandfather, but what was much more notable was how you opened yourself up to snide misogyny or repuslsive politic assumption slurs by inexplicably NOT mentioning her ULTRA MEGA FAMOUS aunt; Jane.

Terry Yelmene

The Nick Cage movie is "Moonstruck" awesome movie co-staring Cher. Another great Nick Cage movie is "Raising Arizona"

Theodore Donald 'Donny' Kerabatsos

Cassie's face any time Rosie Perez spoke is just so fantastic! hahaha!!

Philip Alan

Yes. I remember this movie. As I recall it is told as a "mostly true story", but in reality, only one part is true. Yes, a NY cop once gave a waitress a $2M "tip", However, the waitress helped him pick the numbers and the cop's wife was happy to give her the money, and there never was any romance. The cop and his wife and the waitres and her husband were and still are happily married. Still, as you said, it's a cute movie.

Alan Kobb

You two... watching a 'feel good' here proves, time and time again, that you two are exemplary 'temder souls' This is yet another Cassie and Carly Classic!

Terry Yelmene

Indeed. It fits so well with, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936), You Can’t Take it With You (1938), Mr. Smith Goes To Washington (1939), Meet John Doe (1941), and of course, It’s a Wonderful Life (1946). Perhaps one day Cassie will see them. Also, I could totally see Jean Arthur in the Bridget Fonda role.

Larry Darrell

I've always wanted to see this movie but probably would not have if not for you guys. Thank you so much. If you want two love stories in one movie, try Timeline from 2003. You also get some Sci-fi and time travel!

Roger Wayne Alms

"Fairy tales can come true, it could happen to you, if you're young at heart" Charlie and Yvonne taking the kids to Yankee Stadium always melts my heart. Thank you, this is a family favorite and watching it with you guys was beyond great. Watching these sweet movies that really click with you is an absolute treat. LOL, that reminds me of some of your comments towards Muriel Lang ha. "well she's a treat" and "I don't think we like Muriel" (no, no we don't) after about 1 minute of screen time. Rosie definitely played her role to perfection. As far as sharing the winnings of the lottery ticket, I'd say split it evenly? Still quite a bit of money and as Charlie Lang just showed us, money isn't everything. However, Bridget Fonda in that red dress IS everything. Lawd have mercy. But you know, when you were describing her, you could have been describing yourself or Carly. Both of you, with your sweetness and kind hearts, make me want to be better. Now after hearing about you buying groceries for someone as well?? I need to step it up even more. Thanks again for making my night (again).

Erik Daniel

Great to see this feel good movie. I don't mind rom coms at all, I have no aversion to them, lol. I have to add this movie to the list of movies I've seen for the first time because Cassie saw them. No one who mentioned Bridget's grandfather, Henry Fonda, pointed out he was the star of the movie 12 Angry Men seen by Cassie on this channel. Good to see Stanley Tucci and Richard Jenkins in this movie, and Cassie knew Wendell Pierce from Jack Ryan and I know him as Detective "Bunk" Moreland in all 5 seasons of The Wire. And the actor who played Charlie's lawyer, Red Buttons was in a requested movie on this channel, The Poseidon Adventure (1972) with Gene Hackman. (got to get my plugs in when I can)

Mike LL

The actress who played Carol, Yvonne’s friend and fellow waitress, is Ann Dowd. She has been in a Ton of things since the early nineties, so very likely you have seen her before. In fact you have definitely seen her Very, Very recently. Ann Dowd played Betty Childress in the finale of True Detective. This was the live-in half-sister of the Main villain, Errol Childress.

Larry Darrell

I'm sure Cassie was familiar with Nic Cage and the "moon" movie because two of the trivia night winners had Moonstruck on their list of movies for Cassie to pick from, if I am not mistaken, so she would have looked up the movie. Here's hoping that this reminder might prod her to see the glorious Moonstruck sooner rather than later.

Mike LL

This is a great descriptor, Frank Capra would have loved this movie, indeed.

Mike LL

yes come join the dark side ❤️

Cassie

Such a sweet movie with a great message. I had forgotten that Rosie Perez is in this movie. I love her! She really does do a great job of making people not like her in this movie. Rosie plays the best friend (and waitress as a matter of fact) to Marissa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny) in another sweet love story from the 90’s called Untamed Heart with Christian Slater. If you want to see a very young Nicolas Cage, watch Valley Girl from 1984.

Tara

Oh man! Another Cage movie. One step closer to Lord of War!

Martin Skouboe

Cage had three solid action movies in the 90's. The Rock, Con Air and Face/Off.

James1035

Well, no one mentioned that Bridgett Fonda's dad is Peter Fonda, who is an actor, and son of Henry. Also, no one mentioned yet her film Point if no Return, which I think is a remake of Le Femme Nikita? And, of course, Jackie Brown, a Tarantino film, but not an original script of his. Also, Nic Cage was is several romance films, but I think he was worried about being typecast, and switched to action movies? Basically, there is a lot of Hollywood history stacked up behind these two...

Jon Johns

Totally up to the recipient if they want to give any of their money away. It’s a gift for them to do with what they want. As for my splurge I’m with you on a massage. After over 20 years in the construction industry my body is destroyed. I’ve been just recently getting massage therapy every couple weeks. It helps tremendously but doesn’t last very long unfortunately. So yes daily massage therapy. Carly, Smoothies!🤣 The simple things in life Right! You guys are great .

Steven Ashford

You know, I’ve never really been much of a rom-com guy, but I think this chick flick month is gonna turn things around.

Johnny Liu

Should the recipient of the winning lottery ticket share with the buyer? Completely their decision. Should be no obligation on the recipient and buyer should have no claim to any of the winnings. It would be a nice gesture. As for what I would do, it depends on how much I won. Pay off my loan is first. After that, it all depends on the amount won, but if it was several million, say about 20, give a million to each of my siblings and a million each to my nieces and nephews.

Brian McGovern

I was working in NYC when this happened -- yes, it really was based on a true story, though they took liberties with the aftermath LOL. He really did promise her half his winnings and came through. It really captivated the city like they described.

S M

Another great reaction awesome ladies! I loved this movie when it first came out…knew you two would live it too. It still holds up and is relevant today…encourages us that being kind and generous is the most important. It was inspirational to hear your story, Cassie, as well. Never lose that no matter what life throws at you. Thank you two again.

Jeffrey Smith

This is such a sweet movie.

Ian Cano

Wonderful reaction ladies! Great to see Carly back! Also, great story about the groceries Cassie! Very heart warming! Just like this movie! I know some people might say it’s sappy. But it’s good to see nice people have nice things happen to them. It’s actually part of the reason I choose to support you on Patreon Cassie. I think you and Carly are genuinely kind and good hearted people. And I would like to show you guys my support in this small way. As far as other Rom-coms starring Nicolas Cage. You might enjoy Family Man starring Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni. Bridget doesn’t really have a lot of romantic comedies. She more know for movies like Single White Female, Jackie Brown, and Simple Plan. Anyways, have a great rest of the weekend ladies!

Robert da Spruce

....and Bridget Fonda was the next up and coming Hollywood girl for a few years in the 1990s (point of no return, singles). She is the grand daughter of Henry fonda. Jane Fonda is her aunt. She got married and walked away from Hollywood.

Steve Barrett

.....just finished watching with you both. Cassie, your reveal at the end makes this the best review ever! Have you ever seen the movie "pay it forward"? I'll make it a point to do the same for someone next week. Thanks for the inspiration.

Steve Barrett

Bridget Fonda was in a ton of 90s movies. I recommend Shag, Singles, and Lake Placid.

Jen Barnes

She cracks her toes to.

Rick Williams

That was a blast from the past. It has been so long since I've seen this movie that I didn't remember much of it. Cute movie. A movie about karma. Great reaction Ladies. As Carly likes to say, tender.

Rick Williams

Loved your reactions to this... so great. My one thing would be to have someone take me on a drive daily.. just an hour or two in a big car to see the countryside, feel the wind, listen to the wipers rubbing across the windshield in the rain, smell that scent that only comes during the rainy days... That would be my thing.

Andrew Rose

Moonstruck is another great "feel good" romantic comedy movie, with New York City as the backdrop.

N M

I've seen this a few times but its been many years since that last time. I knew you two would love it and I enjoyed watching it with you.

David Poray

If I won the lottery I would pay Carly to stop you from cracking your knuckles. Just kidding(sorta). Great reaction. If you want to see early Nic in love check out Valley Girls.

softshoes

You asked why wasn’t Bridget Fonda in other movies…. Unfortunately she was in a serious car accident and hurt her back. She’s no longer making movies. There was photo of her last year that blew up in the tabloids because she is unrecognizable from what she looked like in this movie.

N M

Bridget Fonda is too cute, what a smile! Nice reaction to a nice little film with a great message and theme. Looking for more Bridget? Godfather 3 will probably help, hint hint wink wink. Another nice little film is "Shag", a film set in the 60's, Bridget and Phoebe Cates. So glad you both got a film to relax with- you're the best!

Dave

I second it. You would love it : Nicolas cage, Cher, Olympia Dukakis, and others.

Steve Barrett

the original go fund me

zynjams

I have to sit these out, Cassie, sorry. I can't handle love stories since I lost mine. I have to avoid certain songs too.

Scott Macaulay

This film is inspired by the charming real-life story of New York Detective Robert Cunningham who in 1984 promised to split his winning 6-million-dollar ticket with waitress Phyllis Penzo because he had no money for a tip and returned to fulfill that promise.

Steve Holton

$4 Million in 1994 adjusted for inflation would be $8.14 Million in 2023. Mortgage rates and rent have gone up exponentially faster than inflation though. Also Queens and Brooklyn still had some cheap housing back then. I'm not saying they wouldn't have to work, but it would go a lot further back then.

Jesus F Christ

"Moonstruck" would be the Nick Cage moon movie that you are thinking about. It's a rom-com, and you both would love it. Thanks for another great reaction, you guys are awesome.

Bill Hayden

This was a great little movie!❤️

Alina Jones

So I have no idea what possessed me to watch this movie years ago, but I did and it was pretty good as far as romantic movies go. I know you guys will enjoy it.

James1035

Both of them r available on Amazon prime.

Ahmad Zain

Hey Guy's! I know u guys love romcoms so I would recommend 2 Indian romance movies Love Aaj Kal(2009) is a story about a couple who have to end their relationship because of their careers and the modern places they live. However, the story transcends through times if love can still exist in the modern-day just like in earlier days. The 2nd one is my favorite Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013); this story focuses on 4 friends who r in their 20's who go on a trip, girl meets boy, hijinks happen but all the friends have to grow apart becz of their lives and the story begins 8 years later as they all r in their 30's for their friend wedding. This movie celebrates madness, warmth, marriage, freedom, friendships, reunions, & Love. Please watch these if u get the chance this month.

Ahmad Zain

The thing I like about this movie is that it portrays some of the realities of winning the lottery. Everyone expects to live in the lap of luxury for the rest of their lives, once they win the lottery. As it turns out people who have never had a lot of money and suddenly get a lot of money, tend to lose it. Often they end up in debt, worse off than they started or they just go back to life as it was before they won the lottery. Which is more or less what happens to the characters in this story. Charlie goes back to working as a cop, more or less what he was doing before. Muriel ends up losing all her money and moving back in with her mother, arguably worse off than she started, since she doesn't have Charlie propping her up anymore. The real winner here is really Yvonne who still has her diner. Though that comes with it's own share of problems, since running a small business is no picnic. But it's better than being waitress with a jerk of a boss. And she does end up marrying Charlie, probably the nicest man she's ever met.

Phillip Ribbink

Can’t wait to watch. I’m so glad Carly joined you, I expect it will be right up both of your alley’s😊

Cole Jennett

Very Capraesque, this film. Loved it.

Larry Darrell

Very charming movie! Looking forward to watching your reaction!

Robert da Spruce

Bridget Fonda, daughter of Peter Fonda (Easy Rider 1968) granddaughter of Henry Fonda(The Grapes of Wrath) and Jane's niece,Bridget has the nicest smile and beautiful eyes,Nicholas Cage was really cute in the day,I think I would have cast Brad Pitt instead.

Celeste McAllister

just KNEW that this was the perfect movie for you...saw it way back in the day, then after learning it was based (at least in part) on a real event it always stuck with me; the other Cage movie is Moonstruck

JL_83

After I saw you were going to watch this, I knew you would like it.
